According to Mirror, after making an offer to Robin van Persie to join his staff at Manchester United, Erik ten Hag has chosen his assistant coach if he arrives on the United bench at the end of the season. The current coach of Ajax Amsterdam will bring with him the one who is already his assistant at the Lancers, Mitchell van der Gaag. The 52-year-old Batavian coach considers his current assistant to be a very important part of his staff in Amsterdam.
The 50-year-old assistant coach was notably the coach of Belenenses in the Portuguese first division a few years ago. Victim of a heart attack on his bench in 2013, Van der Gaag has since been equipped with an automatic defibrillator similar to that of Dane Christian Eriksen.
