Everton made the very good operation of the day in the Premier League by winning against Manchester United (1-0) on the 32nd day.

This Saturday afternoon, Everton and Manchester United faced each other in a match of fear at Goodison Park. Manchester United had to win to come considerably closer to their end-of-season goal: fourth place. For its part, Everton, dying in the league, had no choice but to win to get away from the red zone. For this match, Ralf Rangnick could count on the return of Cristiano Ronaldo in attack. Paul Pogba started on the bench. Franck Lampard decided to trust Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin to lead the attack.

The start of the game was very clearly in favor of the Mancunians who got the first chances thanks to Marcus Rashford. The English international, who found the starting XI, first saw his good shot (8th) then his header at the end of the line (11th) being repelled by a very good Jordan Pickford. Dominated, the Toffees could not approach the opposing area and it was necessary to wait 20 minutes to see Everton’s first half-chance. And that was enough. On their first attack, Gordon’s teammates opened the scoring. The latter scored with an innocuous strike, at the entrance to the surface, completely countered by Maguire (26th). And this goal completely reversed the scenario of the match. Manchester United, stunned, suffered until the end of the first half and no longer created any chances.

Manchester United move away from fourth place

Upon returning from the locker room, the Red Devils did not show a particularly better face, on the contrary. The entry of Paul Pogba half an hour into the game to replace the injured Fred did not change anything. Neither Cristiano Ronaldo, nor Bruno Fernandes or even Jadon Sancho were inspired offensively and the chances were rare. Everton seemed much better in this meeting and it took decisive interventions from Lindelöf (56th) and Wan-Bissaka (69th) not to see Richarlison’s teammates make the break.

In the last quarter of an hour of play, Manchester United pushed to get back into the game. In vain. The multiple clumsiness of the Mancunian players did not help in front and Pickford finished the meeting without being really in danger apart from this impressive parade against CR7 (90th). Everton obtains a precious victory in the race to maintain since the club is now 4 points ahead of the first relegation pending the other matches of the weekend. Manchester United, for its part, sees the 4th place move away a little more.
