Interviewed by the English magazine FourFourTwo, former Arsenal player Nacho Monreal spoke about the case of his former Gunners team-mate Mesut Özil. According to the 36-year-old Spaniard, the German attacking midfielder had far too many problems to perform. He also says that things ended badly between Özil and Arsène Wenger.
“Ozil’s problem is that he had problems with everyone. It ended badly with Wenger, he didn’t play the last games with him, then Emery tried to bring him back and make him our leader. At first he gave him a lot of confidence and Mesut played a lot, but the coach understood that there were other teammates who were in better condition. Özil was one of the best players in the team, one of the highest paid, but they saw that he was not at the required level.
