Three Algerian journalists, covering the African Cup of Nations were attacked with knives on Sunday evening in the city of Douala, base camp of the Algerian selection for the CAN in Cameroon which began on Sunday. According to Algerian media DZ FOOT, who reported the assault on Twitter, the three journalists were assaulted around 10 p.m. Sunday as they left their hotel by “A group for the time being unidentified and in possession of bladed weapons”The journalists who managed to escape were injured, but their lives are not in danger, their attackers left with some personal effects, mobile phones and a passport.
In his press release DZ Foot, deplores the far too slow reaction time of the local police following this attack in the economic capital of the country and calls on the Cameroonian authorities to remedy this security failure as quickly as possible to “To guarantee sufficient security conditions for all the actors of this CAN, whether they are on the ground or outside.”
