National Cruiserweight title contender, Abiodun ‘Infiniti’ Affini, has vowed never to lose again in front of his wife and children in the December 24 Christmas cracker GOtv Boxing Night 24 against Michael ‘Emirate’ Godwin in Lagos.
When both boxers met at GOtv Boxing Night 23, Affini was beaten in front of his wife and children.
“I was beaten in front of my wife and children the last time out, and I won’t allow such thing to happen to me this time,” Affini said yesterday at the unveiling ceremony in Lagos.
“December 24 is my birthday, and I will do everything to beat Godwin this time,” he boasted.
Afinni and Michael will battle for the vacant national cruiserweight title at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on December 24.
Apart from the national cruiserweight title bout, the 24th edition of the GOtv Boxing Night will also feature a Boxing Federation (WBF) title fight and a national light heavyweight title fight.
There will also be five domestic bouts across weight divisions, according to organisers of the event, Flykite Productions.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the Public Relations Manager, GOtv Nigeria, Jennifer Ukoh-Osamwonyi, expressed delight at the progress recorded with the boxing event. She commended the promoters, Flykite Productions, Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) and the media for their support.
“We are proud of how far we have come with the support of boxing fans, the NBB of C as well as members of the media, who have done commendable work in their role as advocates for not just the sport, but the event,” she said.
Ukoh-Osamwonyi added that the event has sparked a revival of Nigerian boxing by providing opportunities, which were once scarce, for boxers to exhibit their skills and get rewarded.
“It is truly gratifying to see that the objectives of this initiative, which was to revive a sport that had suffered decades of gross underfunding and poor organisation, provide considerably better remuneration for the boxers, and most importantly, produce Nigerian boxing champions,” she added.
