Organisers of the second AirFirst Golf Championship, yesterday, revealed that the Abeokuta Golf Club is ready to host the over 250 players from across the country billed to participate in the fiesta.
The championship will hold from November 10 to 14, 2021. The first edition of the championship last year was a low-key event due to the global disruptions caused by the novel Coronavirus pandemic. But this term, the organisers have promised an improved version with all the top players jostling for honours.
According to the programme made available to The Guardian, the caddies will take to the fairways on November 10, while the professionals will take to the course on November 12 after which a gala night will follow.
Saturday, November 13, tees off the main event – the Day-1 of the Championship with golfers-all in action, just as Sunday, November 14 will mark Day-2 and the closing round of all events.
Explaining preparations for the championship, Secretary General of West Africa Golf Association (WAGA), Abel Edinomo, who is the head of the organising committee, said: “The first edition of the AirFirst Championship was more of a pilot take, much attention was not given to the event.
“Interestingly, the committee has learnt a lot from the maiden edition on the grey areas that have to be improved on. That is why this edition is going to be a bang; participants are sure to live with a great memory of the event.”
Some golfers, who commented on the AirFirst Championship, harped on the need for consistency in organisation of the competition if it must retain its credibility.
