Nigeria’s first national golf magazine, Nigeria Golf Network, will hit the newsstands on Tuesday, the publishers have revealed.
The bi-weekly magazine is a project of a member of the Nigeria Golf Federation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, edited by one of the nation’s foremost golf writers, Tony Akhigbe.
Runsewe, who is also the Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), said he embarked on the project because in his travels to golf destinations across the world, he observed that golf clubs own house journals and several golf publications on newsstands, while Nigeria has none.
This, he said, is appalling given the fact that South Africa has over 25 weekly magazines on golf alone. Runsewe promised that Nigeria Golf Network, which will be an all colour 48-page package, will strive to amuse and also educate golfers and non-golfers on the great game.
He promised that the stories in the magazine would be honest and of human interest, adding that would also play well to the readers.
Even though the magazine will immediately be on selected newsstands, all efforts have been geared towards getting it across to all the 150 golf clubs in Nigeria and selected ones abroad.
“The magazine shall also be in major hotels, federal ministries, libraries and airports across the nation and to other hands largely by subscriptions,’’ Runsewe disclosed.
He added: “It is clear that this publication shall provide great fun every fortnight. Moreover, it shall serve as one vehicle that will drive the nation’s community of over three million golfers to the hearts of other golfers across the globe.’’
