Tuesday, October 2020 was an emotional day for many at Ikoyi Club Golf Section following the tragic events that followed the #EndSARS protests.
The protests led to many of the youths in the campaign and some police and other security officer paying the ultimate prize.
And so it was an emotional occasion at the club when the ladies organised a Memorial Golf Kitty in honour of fallen heroes and heroines who were killed during the peaceful protest across the nation.
This memorial golf kitty, exclusively for ladies, according to the Lady Captain Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf section, Edith Udegbe, saw all the participants wearing red and black attire.
“The red signified the blood that was shed and the black represented mourning… it was a solemn competition where you see mothers expressing how sad the whole incident turned out to be,” Udegbe said.
Yinka Aruwajoye won the kitty with 75 net, while Ese Adonkie ended as runner-up with 74 net scores.
The lady Captain in her speech prayed to God to console the families that lost their children and also heal those still receiving treatments at various hospitals.
“We also hope and believe that the government will do the right thing and set a day apart for the country to remember these great and brave ones,” she added.
