Brightville, GCI win Southwest Secondary Schools Medley Relay — Sport — –

Brightville College, which has produced many young sports stars for the country, including new Golden Eaglets’ sensation, Akinkunmi Amao, lived up to its billing at the weekend when it won the girls’ category in the Southwest Secondary Schools Medley Relay with a wide gap at its annual sports meet held inside the mainbowl of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex Ibadan.

St Anne’s College, Molete, Ibadan came second in the female category, while Government College, Ibadan, won the boys’ category.

The Medley relay is a race in which individual members of a team usually run an unequal portion of the total distance.Red House emerged champions of the inter-house competition with 14 gold, three silver and 17 bronze medals in the secondary school category, while Yellow House came second with nine gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

Green House ended in third place with three gold, seven silver and three gold medals.

In the Invitational Relay, which involved schools from the South West geo-political zone, Saint Anne’s School Molete emerged first, followed by Trailblazers College Ilesa, Osun State in girls’ category, while the male version was won by Government College, Ibadan, with Deril Academy in a close second position.

The proprietor and chairman of Oyo State Athletics Association, Dr. Isaac Friday Ogada in his remarks expressed satisfaction with the outcome and performance of the children, saying the athletes discovered would be invited to fight for a slot to represent Oyo State at the National Youth Games scheduled for later in the year.

Among dignitaries in attendance was the chairman of Osun State Athletics Association, Elder Ademola Adigun, representative of Vice Chancellor, Lead City University Ibadan, Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo, as well as representatives of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, (NAPPS) Oyo State, among others.
