Benin Club, Golf Section (BCGS) has been decked in its best possible attire in readiness for the Umaru Aniya and Timothy Atuk retirement kitty, which holds tomorrow in the Edo State capital.
About 80 golfers from across the country are expected to feature at the one-day kitty organised by Committee of Friends and Golfers in honour of Umaru, former secretary of the section, and Dr. Atuk, who have put in the statutory years in service at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
A member of the organising committee, Princess Habiibah Oyarekhua described the two retirees as great golfers, who have paid their dues in the game.
“They deserve to be honoured for their various roles towards the development of golf in the club and in Nigeria,” she said.
Princess Oyarekhua, who is also the club’s lady captain added: “The Committee of Friends and Golfers of the duo have come together as one big family joined by golf to honour them by contributing towards a befitting retirement golf tourney at the club.
“The tournament is significant to us in the club, having served meritoriously in an organisation, and retired peacefully, is enough reason to celebrate.
“This is because the love of golf is what binds all of us together as one big happy golfing family.
“Mr. Aniya Umaru was a General Manager with NNPC Frontiers and also a former secretary of the golf section. He reawakened the NNPC Upstream Golf Tournament and was a major player in convincing the GMD towards the refurbishment and repackaging of the clubhouse.
“On the other hand, Dr. Atuk Timothy Abang, is a gentleman and an astute medical surgeon. He is thorough in his approach to issues, even golf.”
She revealed that prizes and trophies would be presented to golfers in all categories, including men’s and ladies, veterans, and super veterans.
“It will be exciting and competitive all through the day. Golfers from Ibori Golf and Country Club, (IGCC), Asaba; Shell Golf Club, Warri; IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos; UBTH Golf Club, Benin and many more are featuring at the event,” she said.
