Olanrewaju Football Club, Ogudu/Ojota, Lagos has won the fifth edition of ‘Peperito’ Soccer competition.
The soccer tournament, which began on January 5 ended last weekend at the Expressway Primary School, Ikosi/Ketu. The grassroots competition was attended by people from all walks of life.
Ketu Grassroots Football Association put the sevenaside soccer tournament together in collaboration with Afilaka Cypon promotion. The tournament witnessed soccer artistry by budding stars, who showcased their skills to the amazement of the fans.
The tournament featured 22 grassroots football teams. At the end of the proceeding, Olanrewaju FC won the tournament in a penalty shootout, 6-4 against Ketu Grassroot FC. The Ogudu/Ojota side lifted the gold plated trophy.
Speaking after the tournament, the special guest who doubled as the chairman, Hon. Adebayo Sikiru Peperito Osinowo noted that it was pertinent to engage and keep the youth busy in entire Kosofe, Ikosi/Isheri Local Government Council in Lagos ahead of the general elections.
“The criminality and other heinous machinations being perpetrated in the land necessitated this competition. It is an avenue to discourage the youths from practicing evil. More importantly, their God’s given skills can be used, harnessed to serve the nation and their individual communities”.
He added: “The next edition will feature lots of people.”
Other dignitaries at the occasion include, Engr. Abdulfatai Oyesanya (Chairman, Ikosi/Isheri LCDA), Hon. Lanre Keru Carew, representatives of Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye, Barrister Tunde Braimoh, Hon. Okanlawon, among others.
