Enyimba Coach, Paul Aigbogun has left from his post as the technical adviser of the Peoples Elephant due to what he described as ‘personal reasons.’
Aigbogun, who is also the coach of the national U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, was in his third stint at the 2003 and 2004 African champions.
In his stead, the club’s first assistant coach, Usman Abdullahi will take the reigns of the club, which is currently fourth in the 2018 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) standings with 38 points from 24 games.
Enyimba is billed to meet Cote d’Ivoire’s Williamson Athletic Club in a CAF Confederation Cup match at the Felix Houphouet- Boigny Stadium on Sunday.
Abdullahi’s immediate task is to ensure that Enyimba maintains its lead in Group C of the competition, which it leads with six points from three games.
The Aba club is followed on the log by Williamsville and Djoliba of Mali, who are tied on four points, while Carra Brazzaville of Congo is fourth with three points.
Meanwhile, Enyimba star, Ernest Governor is delighted by his side’s rich vein of form and expects it to finish in the top two at the end of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Blessed with technical abilities, Governor has been central to Enyimba’s renaissance on the continent and the local scene.
The former Supreme Court defender was in action as Enyimba piped Williamsville 1-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup last midweek.
“It’s been a superb 2018 so far and we are looking forward to continue in this way, when the league resumes,” Governor told Footballlive.ng.
“The combination of games at the beginning of the season really left us way off but we have recovered well and it’s really paying off.
“Football is all about the rhythm and the entire squad has peaked at the right time so hopefully it’s a memorable run in.”
The People’s Elephant is fourth on the NPFL log with 38 points from 24 games.
