Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Almakura has approved an N8 million sign on fee for players of Nasarawa Amazons, who recently won the 2017 Nigerian Women League.
Speaking during a reception for the team yesterday at the Government House, Lafia, where he formerly received the trophy NWFL Super Four trophy, Almakura said: “Today is one of the golden days of Nasarawa State for welcoming our gallant queens, who clinched the women championship trophy.
“You did it 2014 and now 2017. I wish I were around to take you round the town to showcase our victory.
“Be patient and work hard even when we are not giving you what other countries in Europe and America are giving as rewards but certainly we shall get there.
“We are reviewing your emoluments to make you comfortable in your career. I have signed N8 million as signing on fee and before Friday you will have it.”
Almakura also donated N10 million as special gift to the girls for making the state proud again.
He also promised brand new buses for both the Amazons and their male counterparts, Nasarawa United, while all the coaches were promised cars.
The governor assured that the government is currently repackaging the township stadium and another training field behind the Government House, Lafia to boost sports in the state.
In a vote of thanks, the chairman of the club, Abdul Nuhu thanked Almakura for approving the club’s signing on fee and the offer of brand new buses.
He assured the governor that more of such laurels would be brought to the state with the support of the state government.
