Chairman of Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede has donated a giant trophy worth N200, 000 and also pledged the sum of N10 million in support of the Yasin Peace Cup, a grassroots football competition instituted in honour of NURTW national president, Alhaji Najeem Yasin.
The N10 million, according to Alhaji Agbede, will come from the sales of the Yasin Peace Cup tag by members of the Lagos chapter of the union.
Speaking when the state council met with the different branches in Lagos, Agbede said he would always be grateful to Alhaji Yasin, whom he described as his mentor, adding the Yasin Peace Cup is another demonstration of the president’s love for the youths of Nigeria.
He also thanked Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for the ‘giant strides he has made since he assumed office,’ and pledged his union’s continued support to the governor’s pursuit of even development of the state.
Also speaking on the competition, the organiser, Deacon Augustine Ebaju, who is the managing director of Football Enterprise Ltd, described Agbede as a team player, who always considered other peoples’ interests in every decision he takes.
He revealed that the N10 million pledged by Agbede would be used as reward to the first, second, third and fourth placed teams in the Yasin Peace Cup at N2m, N1.5m, N1m and N500, 000 respectively.
