Ikorodu United Players, Officials Cheat Death In Enugu
What could have been another tragic moment for Nigerian football was averted yesterday.Super Eagles’ star, Ogenyi Onazi, survived a road accident on his way from Benin City yesterday, a day after his traditional wedding ceremony.

In Enugu, players and officials of Ikorodu United escaped death on their way to Makurdi, Benue State for a league match against Lobi Stars.The Eagles’ star, a member of the team that won the 2013 AFCON in South Africa under the late Coach Stephen Keshi, had his traditional wedding ceremony with Sandra Ogunsuyi on Thursday in Benin, and was returning to Lagos to prepare for his white wedding today.

It was learnt that one of the tyres of Ogenyi’s car burst when it ran into a pothole at Ogbere area of Oyo State.“Devil na lie for you, thank God we are fine,” Onaze said. “Our government no dey try at all… bad roads, they are not called pot hole, put well on the road, Christ, praise him,”Onazi added.

The traditional wedding was attended by NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and Super Eagles striker, Jude Odion Ighalo.Onazi and Sandra had done their court wedding at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry in December, 2015.

Meanwhile, players and officials of Ikorodu United were forced to jump out of their bus through the windows to avoid collusion with a truck, which ran into an 18-seater bus yesterday, killing all the occupants at Ninth Mile, Enugu, on their way to Makurdi for a league encounter against Lobi Stars tomorrow.

According to the Media Manager of Ikorodu United, Babatunde Ayoola, majority of the players sustained various degrees of injury in the process of jumping out of the bus.

Ayoola was still making frantic efforts to reach officials of the League Management Company (LMC) yesterday to seek postponement of the match.“Our players are psychologically down and there is no way we can continue our journey to Makurdi today (yesterday). Our bus was badly damaged. All the people inside the 18-seater bus in front of our vehicle died,” he stated.
