In remembrance of late soccer icon, Rashidi Yekini, who passed on four years ago, a foundation instituted in his memory, has lined up programmes to celebrate his legacy.

According to lawyer for the late footballer, Jibril Mohammed, part of the programme, which holds tomorrow, is donation of football kits to some secondary schools and a football match between Ibadan Grammar School and Methodist High School at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The counsel explained that the match identifies with the grassroots football development dreams of Yekini.

He said, “Yekini was nobody when he started, but he rose to stardom with the help of Allah. Yekini had no kit to play football when he started and that is why we are using this year’s memorial anniversary to support young talents in both schools.”

Mohammed disclosed that the foundation chose the two schools because they have produced great footballers, explaining that Ibadan Grammar School was where the likes of Taiwo Ogunjobi, Zion Ogunfeyimi and Bella Momoh passed through, while Methodist High School produced the likes of Raymond King and Ojokojo Torunarigha

“These are two great schools that have contributed immensely to the development of football in Ibadan and Nigeria as a whole and they are still known for strong youth football passion.
