Gbolahan Salami’s dream of playing for the Super Eagles in the September 5 African Nations Cup qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam may be dashed following the refusal of the Norwegian embassy to release his passport.
According to one of Salami’s associates, Salami submitted his passport at the Norwegian embassy when his agent got him a deal with a premier league club in the Scandinavian country believing that he would get the travel visa before the end of the transfer window.
But the three weeks stipulated for the issuance of the visa has lapsed with no word from the embassy. “This apart from frustrating the player, is now threatening to knock him out of the Super Eagles squad for the international matches in September,” the associate who pleaded anonymity, said
. Salami is one of the rising stars of Nigerian football, who has been earmarked for a key role in the Nations Cup qualifiers by new Super Eagles’ coach, Sunday Oliseh. The Warri Wolves star scored Nigeria’s first goal of the 2017 AFCON qualifying campaign against Chad in Kaduna last June.
