Eniola Aramide, Evangeline Okoduwa and King Ugboko at the weekend once again demonstrated the abundance of talents in Nigeria when they won their various weight categories at the maiden Grandmaster Koffi Under-15 Taekwondo Championship held at the Badminton Section of the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.
The event, which attracted many taekwondoists, was planned in honour of one of Africa’s Grandmasters, Koffi Sunday Anani, who just turned 65.
It was also designed to attract and discover budding talents who will take the sport to a new level.
Fighting in the heavyweight category, Aramide beat Cyril Okoduwa to win the gold medal, Evangeline Okoduwa took the middle female category gold medal, just as King Ugboko won the middle boys category.
The highlight of the event was the AGM Michael Ugboko family, who had four of his children winning prizes in the different categories.
Grandmaster Koffi is reputed as one of the biggest factors in the development of taekwondo in Nigeria, with many of his former pupils among Africa’s best in the sport.
