Mohbad’s Stepmother Reveals Pastor Bent His Neck While Trying To Anoint Him (Video)

0

The stepmother of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that a church pastor bent his neck after anointing his lifeless body.

In a recently uploaded video, the woman sat calmly with Mohbad‘s father, explaining in detail to another concerned woman about the position of Mohbad‘s head in the coffin in which he was buried.

The other woman in the room, appearing curious, remarked that Mohbad might not have died for his head to be arranged or displayed in such a manner.

In native Yoruba language, she stated, “For his neck to be like that, it means Mohbad has not died.”

In response to her statement, Mohbad’s stepmother clarified, making her understand that the pastor had initially lifted his neck to anoint his head with oil, after which the body was placed back in a bent position.

She responded, “The church’s pastor lifted his neck in a particular way to pour anointing oil on his head. But when his head was placed back, the neck positioned itself in a bent way.”

Meanwhile, the other woman insisted that Mohbad wasn’t dead at that moment because if he was, his neck would have become so stiff and nearly unmovable.

Cut the noise on corruption fight – Asah Asante to Gov’t –

0

Senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana (UG), Dr. Asah Asante has called on the government to stop the noise on fighting corruption in the country.

This comes on the back of Corruption Perceptions Index 2023 released by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) stating that Ghana’s anti-corruption fight shows zero improvement in four years.

In a press release, the GII explained that, Ghana, with a score of 43, ranked 8th out of 49 countries in SSA which were included in the index, alongside Benin (43) and Senegal (43).

Commenting on the development on Morning Starr with Francis Abban, Dr. Asante stated that the new document released by the GII exposes the government big time.

“I am not a prophet of doom but from where I sit and what I see and you also experience relative to the fight against corruption if we don’t take care we will even go down further. Because for all intents and purposes we are not ready to tackle corruption.

“It must be pointed out to this government that it’s losing the fight and it should stop pretending that it is fighting it,” Dr. Asante stated.

He continued: “Look at the Corruption Perception Index, starting from 2017 when this government assumed the reign of government, they have not gone beyond 43 percent. They started off with 40 and they have been around 40 and 43. For me the noise, that we are doing something, pretending to the public that they are fighting corruption. This document exposes the government big time.”

‘Girls Trip’ sequel set to reunite full cast for an adventure in Ghana

0

According to a Variety Magazine exclusive, an upcoming sequel to the hit the rom-com “Girls Trip” will be taking fans to West Africa—Ghana!

Writer-director-producer Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the original 2017 romp, joined the Variety Studio presented by Audible at Sundance and provided an update on the anticipated reunion of Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish.

Oliver, at the festi to promote the second season of her Amazon Prime Video series “Harlem,” said she had a “definitive ‘Girls Trip 2’ update. That it’s officially happening. I can say that.” She also provided a plot update, and while the film’s producer Will Packer “might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”

One of Oliver’s “Harlem” stars, actor Shoniqua Shandai, screamed “Afrochella!” after Oliver dropped the news. She refers to the annual Afrochella festi, Ghana’s premiere cultural and music event whose name borrows from the American flower crown convention Coachella. Oliver confirmed that the ladies of “Girls Trip” will look to attend the festi, which has attracted prominent musical acts from the region, including Beyonce collaborate Shatte Wale. A production timeline is unknown as Oliver still needs to submit her script.

The first “Girls Trip” was a significant box office hit, grossing $140 million worldwide on a modest $16 million budget. Malcolm D. Lee directed the project, produced by Packer and co-written by Olvier and Kenya Barris from a story they conceived with Erica Rivinoja. It also launched the recently-embattled Haddish into superstardom.

Oliver has been on a festi tear the past year, premiering her acclaimed horror comedy “The Blackening” at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festi. The movie, directed by Tim Story, was.acquired by Liosngate on the heels of TIFF and will release this coming Juneteenth.

“Harlem,” which stars Meagan Good, Grace Byers, Jerrie Johnson, and Shandai, will debut its season two in a weekly rollout on Prime Video starting Feb. 3.

Netflix touts $900k AI jobs amid Hollywood strikes

0

Netflix has triggered an angry response from striking Hollywood actors and writers after posting a job advert for an artificial intelligence (AI) expert.

The new position would join its Machine Learning Platform team, which drives the Netflix algorithm helping viewers pick new programmes to watch.

It pays up to $900,000 (£700,000) per year, fuelling further outrage.

Hollywood unions are striking over concerns about how AI affects the entertainment industry and pay.

The job listing, which was first reported by The Intercept on Tuesday, is one of several listed on the Netflix job page that calls for applicants with experience in machine learning (ML) and AI.

It is unclear from the expansive job advert whether the role will advise on content – the TV programmes and films that Netflix chooses to invest in.

Another open listing for a product manager on the Machine Learning Platform team says the future employee will “collect feedback and understand user needs” and ultimately helping with investment decisions.

The description appears to suggest that the role will include using AI to assess funding needs for different programmes.

This is a key concern of the union representing actors, Sag-Aftra, which has spoken of its fears that algorithms have too much power.

Sag-Aftra’s Fran Drescher told Time magazine the singular success of any film or television programme is now much less important than when broadcast television was dominant.

“Algorithms dictate how many episodes a season needs to be before you reach a plateau of new subscribers and how many seasons a series needs to be on,” she claimed.

“That reduces the amount of episodes per season to between six and 10, and it reduces the amount of seasons to three or four. You can’t live on that.

“We’re being systematically squeezed out of our livelihood by a business model that was foisted upon us, that has created a myriad of problems for everyone up and down the ladder.”

The Writers’ guild, WGA, has proposed a system that regulates the use of AI in the writing process and prevents it from being used as source material.

Netflix declined to comment about the job listings, but has previously said AI will not replace the creative process.

“The best stories are original, insightful and often come from people’s own experiences,” Netflix has said.

The news of the most recent AI-based job listing was condemned by some striking actors, who must earn $26,470 before being eligible for health insurance benefits.

“So $900k/yr per soldier in their godless AI army when that amount of earnings could qualify thirty-five actors and their families for Sag-Aftra health insurance is just ghoulish,” actor Rob Delaney, told The Intercept.

Javier Grillo-Marxuach, who is best known for the series Lost, accused Netflix of “pleading poverty while recruiting VERY (more than I’ve ever made in a year BY FAR) well-paid generals for your soulless army of silicon plagiarists”.

Earlier this week, Netflix announced the launch of a new app – My Netflix – which the company calls “a one-stop shop tailored to you with easy shortcuts to help you choose what you want to watch”.

SO/ BBC

A Nairobi-to-Heathrow flight was intercepted by RAF fighters and diverted to Stansted Airport over a “potential security threat”.

A London Stansted spokeswoman said the Kenya Airways Boeing 787 “landed safely with Essex Police in attendance”.

“The aircraft was escorted to a remote parking stand with normal flight operations now continuing,” she said.

The plane was diverted to Stansted just before 15:45 BST but Essex Police said the incident had now been “stood down”.

Officers said inquiries established there was nothing of concern and they handed the plane back to the airport.

Kenya Airways said it worked with the security authorities of the Government of Kenya and the United Kingdom

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesman said: “RAF Typhoon fighter aircraft from RAF Coningsby were launched as a precaution this afternoon to investigate a civilian aircraft which was approaching the UK.

“The civilian aircraft remained in contact with air traffic controllers throughout and was escorted to Stansted Airport where it landed safely.

This incident is now under the control of the civilian authorities.”

Essex Police said: “A flight travelling from Nairobi to Heathrow was diverted to Stansted this afternoon. The airport remains open.”

‘Thorough risk assessment’

An airline spokesman said “Kenya Airways plc (KQ) confirms that on Thursday 12 October 2023, at around 10:30 (08:30 BST), its headquarters received an alert of a potential security threat on board KQ100 operating from Nairobi to London Heathrow.

“The precautions that we were taking was because that threat had been raised and so we just wanted to make sure that there was nothing untoward.”

Essex Police confirmed that Stansted was the designated airport for dealing with security risks in the UK.

Asenso Boakye denies camping delegates –

0

Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency, Asenso Boakye has denied claims that he camped delegates throughout the night.

According to him, the delegates are people who can give birth to him so there is no way he could have camped them overnight.

He said it’s a figment of the imagination of people peddling falsehoods about him.

“It is a figment of their own imagination. I have not camped anyone. Some are as old as my grandfather, so how can you camp your grandfather? How can you camp your father? So it is a figment of their own imagination,” he said.

On why he went for a morning devotion before the contest, Asenso Boakye said, “That is what I do when I’m going for a contest and some people joined me.”

Asenso Boakye is seeking a second term as a Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency. He is in the contest with Ralph Agyapong who has vowed to unseat him.

Ghana, Mozambique friendly ends abruptly after

Ghana players left on the pitch

Ghana’s Black Galaxies’ friendly game against Mozambique on Tuesday, January 10, ended earlier than expected after the latter walked off the pitch after a penalty decision.

The Mozambique head coach ordered his players to leave the pitch after Annor Walker’s men were awarded a penalty following the opposition’s player handling the ball in his box.

However, the penalty decision didn’t go well with the Mozambique team as they left the pitch despite attempts from officials to get them to continue the game.

Prior to the penalty incident, Mozambique had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half and looked certain to wrap up the game with 20 minutes until full time.

With failed attempts to get them back on the field, the referee then brought the game to an abrupt end.

The game was the Black Galaxies’ last friendly game ahead of the commencement of the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which is scheduled for Friday, January 13.

Ghana’s first game is against Madagascar on Sunday, January 15.

President reiterates commitment to enhance Ghanaians’ standard of living

0

Accra, Aug. 4, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has underlined his administration’s commitment to enhancing citizens’ quality of life, assuring Ghanaians that he will not break his promises.

Despite the issues caused by the COVID-19 outbreak and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he emphasised that the government’s goal of improving Ghanaians’ dignity and raising the standard of living for every citizen remained the same.

“My commitment to uplift the quality of life of Ghanaian is unwavering… and the record of my government points to this,” he said on Friday at the fourth edition of the Founders’ Day luncheon for senior citizens held at the Jubilee House, Accra.

He stated that as President of Ghana, his preoccupation was to guide the country through the transition of its economy from an export of raw materials and retailer of imported goods to a modern value-added industrialised economy.

“Yes, there are difficulties, but let us not forget that 88 per cent of Ghana presently have access to safe water, the national electricity access rate increased from 79.3 percent in 2016 to 88.54 per cent in 2022, making us among the top six in Africa, and we are still expecting to achieve the 90 per cent universal access rate by 2024.

“No longer do mothers have to sell off their most treasured fabrics and jewellery and fathers go to money lenders to be able to see their children through senior high school.

“Today, senior high school education is free for every child. There are more children in secondary school now, 1.7 million, the highest in our history, and we are near parity between boys and girls in terms of enrolment…We have changed the curricula and focused on education to meet the needs of the modern economy and prepare our young people to compete on the global scale,” he stated.

The President told the gathering that the positive impact of the policies of his government was changing the face of the Ghanaian society.

He maintained that by investing in the digital space, the economic and health sectors, the development of inner-city communities, the retooling of security agencies, anti-corruption initiatives, and infrastructure development, “our country will shortly take a deserved place as a modern economy.”

President Akufo-Addo paid glowing tribute to the nation’s founding fathers for their vision and sacrifices that paved the way for the country’s attainment of independence.

As a measure of respect for their efforts, he stated that the country must free itself from the economic arrangements devised by the former colonial power to fulfil its goal at the time, but which regretfully “continues to bind us.”

“As we celebrate our founders, we should believe in our capacity to build a modern, developed, and progressive nation.

“We must make concerted efforts to break away from the neo-colonial structure of the raw material producing and exporting economy, which has been largely our lot and take decisive steps to reach our goal of building a Ghana beyond aid.

“The consensus is for all of us to work towards the prosperous, peaceful, and happy Ghana we want. We all recognize that the responsibility we carry as the first sub-Saharan colonial country to gain independence, is not simply to build an independent country, we owe it to the rest of the continent and the black race to demonstrate that indeed, we can build and run a prosperous and happy country,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to Ghana’s elderly people for their contributions and sacrifices to the country’s development goal.

“Our nation is indebted to you because you have helped in its construction and enhanced its image,” he added.
The occasion was attended by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief Justice Getrude Torkenoo, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, Chief of Staff, Office of the President, and other dignitaries, including former first lady Nana Agyemang Rawlings and Mr Sam Okudzeto, a member of the Council of State.

How Hurricanes Came To Be Given Female, Male Names | Social

0

Hurricanes are types of storms called tropical cyclones, which form over tropical or subtropical waters.

While they come with a lot of destruction, there is something quite interesting about how they are named.

For years, we have seen, read, and heard various names being attributed to hurricanes that have hit different places globally.

On Wednesday, August 30, reports emerged about Hurricane Idalia making a landfall in Florida – the United States of America as a Category 3 hurricane in an area known as the Big Bend region.

The hurricane came with it, heavy rains and powerful winds across the Southeast, leaving parts of Florida’s west coast with “significant damage.”

It was the most powerful hurricane to slam the Big Bend region in more than a century. The storm left thousands of homes damaged in Florida – some with shredded walls and roofs, others with murky, waist-high floodwater.

In the face of this, we take a look at the interesting history behind the naming of these events and how they came to be a thing.

Before a storm is named, it must have sustained winds of 39 mph. Once this wind reaches 74 mph, it becomes a hurricane.

How it started:

According to the World Meteorological Organisation, the naming of storms – tropical cyclones, started several years back to help with the easy identification of storms in warning messages and to help people with easy attribution and remembrance.

In the past, storms were given names according to the place they hit or latitudes and longitude numbers.

The 1900s started seeing feminine names being used to name storms until meteorologists decided to use names from a list arranged alphabetically. Before the end of the 1900s male names had been introduced for storms forming in the Southern Hemisphere.

In the 1950’s, the National Hurricane Center in the United States originated a list of names to be used for storms and they have been maintained and updated by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organisation.

The original list featured only women’s names and in 1979, men’s names were reintroduced and both were alternated.

How naming works now:

The World Meteorological Organisation has 6 lists of 21 male and female names that are rotated every six years. These names are alphabetically arranged with exceptions to the letters Q, X, Y, U, or Z which don’t begin any of the names.

For example, in 2023, hurricanes have been named; Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Don, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harold with the most recent being Idalia.

These names will be reused in 2026, in six years.

However, if there happens to be more than 21 storms in one season, the Greek alphabet is used to name additional storms. This method had to be used in 2005, a year in which there were 27 recorded hurricanes, according to the National Hurricane Center.

When hurricane names are retired:

There is an exception to the reuse of names for storms every six years. Some names are retired; yes, when the storm is deemed to have destroyed a lot of properties, created massive havoc, and killed many, it is considered insensitive to repeat the name for another storm.

In this case, at an annual meeting by the WMO Tropical Cyclone Committees (called primarily to discuss many other issues), the offending name is stricken from the list and another name is selected to replace it. This means that the particular storm name is retired.

Infamous storm names such as Mangkhut (Philippines, 2018), Irma and Maria (Caribbean, 2017), Haiyan (Philippines, 2013), Sandy (USA, 2012), Katrina (USA, 2005), Mitch (Honduras, 1998) and Tracy (Darwin, 1974) are examples of storms whose names have been retired.

In 2021, Hurricane Ida caused massive havoc in Louisiana in the United States. The same was experienced with Hurricanes Fiona and Ian in 2022.

Here is the list of names for the 2023 hurricane season:

Arlene
Bret
Cindy
Don
Emily
Franklin
Gert
Harold
Idalia
Jose
Katia
Lee
Margot
Nigel
Ophelia

Govs ask DSS to arrest interim government plotters

The thirty- six state governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum had on Friday asked the Department of State Services, DSS to immediately arrest and prosecute those it has identified to be planning to install an interim government rather than issuing statements and heating up the polity.

The governors who condemned any unconstitutional means of regime change, however, vowed to resist such move, just as they assured their commitment to continue in the defence of Nigeria’s democracy as elected leaders.

The DSS had earlier in a statement said that the agency had identified some key players in the plot for an Interim Government in Nigeria but did not give the names of the masterminds.

The agency had said that the planners of the interim government had already held several meetings, during which they weighed many options to actualize their plot including sponsoring endless mass protests across Nigerian cities, securing a warrant to declare a state of emergency or a court injunction to stop the inauguration of the executive and the legislature at the federal and state levels.

7 clubs that might win the 2023 Premier League title

0

The fight for the 2022-2023 Premier League title is on, and many teams are proving to be ready for it. There have been ups and downs since the EPL started.

Arsenal had a tremendous start by topping the table and are still in that position; Manchester United surprisingly catapulted to the top 4 after dropping to the 20th position at the start; and Manchester City are proving to be consistent by being next to Arsenal on the table.

The Premier League title is quite unpredictable now since there are still more matches to be played, but from the looks of it, we can guess the clubs that could snatch this title this season.

Here are 7 clubs that are in favour of winning the Premier League title in the 2022–23 season.

7. Newcastle United

Newcastle is having a great season, as they are closing in on being at the top of the table. Newcastle have dominated many matches this season and have enjoyed about 10 wins.

They are a few points behind Tottenham and have just lost two matches since the season started.

6. Manchester City:

Manchester City is one of the top favourites to win the league this season, as they have dominated the Premier League for the past 5 years, winning the title 4 times in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022, and twice consecutively in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Manchester City are not just the favorites; they are also the current champions. The defeated Aston Villa in an incredible match to snatch the title in 2022.

5. Liverpool

Liverpool may not be steady in form, but they are capable of ramping up to win the league title.

They recently suffered a defeat at Anfield in the Champions League when Real Madrid trashed them in what is considered to be one of the greatest defeats Liverpool has suffered at home.

4. Tottenham Hotspur:

Tottenham Hotspur are 4th on the EPL table and they have been impressive through out this season.

The chances of winning the title are much and it could be done if they persist.

3. Arsenal.

Mikel Areta has not just boosted Arsenal’s performance; he has also improved the players.

Arsenal are currently at the top of the table, and their persistence shows that they are not ready to leave that position.

2. Manchester United

Manchester United made a great comeback in their performance this season. They started this season awfully and even slumped to the 20th position in 2022, but have tremendously improved in performance and are currently 3rd on the table.

Erik Ten Hag has shaped the club and players, as we can all witness Marcus Rashford’s recent performances in both local and European competitions. They recently knocked out Barcelona from the Europa League and are also favourites to win the Europa League title.

Manchester United could end their drought by winning the Premier League title and other titles this season.

1. Chelsea FC

Chelsea have maintained their position (10th) on the EPL table for some time now, but they can seize the opportunity to win the title if they can win their remaining matches.

Graham Potter has signed world class players this season Enzo Fernandez, who contributed alot in the World Cup win for Argentina.

Chelsea may win the title if they are determined and willing to put more effort into the game.

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame has questioned the constitutionality of decision of the Auditor General’s Office to publish its audit of government’s expenditure on COVID-19.

According to the Attorney General, the report was prematurely published as it failed to fulfil some provisions in the Constitution.

“I observe that the report of the special audit on the Government’s COVID-19 transactions has been published on the website of the Audit Service. In light of the constitutional provisions pertaining to the duty of the Auditor-General after the preparation of audit reports, I consider a publication of the COVID-19 audit report or indeed any audit report particularly when same has not been either considered by Parliament or referred to a committee of Parliament, premature.

Referencing Articles 187(5) and 187(6) of the 1992 Constitution in a letter addressed to the Auditor-General, Mr Dame noted that the report ordinarily ought to have been submitted to parliament for the House to debate and where necessary, appoint a committee to deal with matters pertaining to the report.

He emphasised that any such report cannot be deemed final until parliament has done its work.

The Attorney General thus advised the Auditor General to withdraw the report published on its website.

“I advise a withdrawal of the report on the Government COVID-19 transactions from your website before same has been debated by Parliament and considered by the appropriate committee of Parliament,” Mr Dame said.

The audit report by the Auditor-General on Government of Ghana’s Covid-19 transactions for the period March 2020 to June 2022, uncovered several infractions relative to expenditures from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The report published on the website of the Auditor-General has generated controversy with calls being made for a full-scale parliamentary probe to be made into the uncovered infractions.

Read the full letter by the Attorney General below:

RE: AUDIT OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS OF GHANA

I refer to various discussions between your good self and me regarding the effective implementation of reports of the Auditor-General on audits into the public accounts of Ghana, particularly with regard to the issuance of disallowances and surcharges.

The matters discussed have become more pertinent in view of the intense controversy generated by the publication of the report on the special audit of the Government of Ghana’s Covid-19 transactions for the period March 2020 to June 2022 on the website of the Ghana Audit Service http://www.audit.gov.gh.
I find it compelling to lay out a few points which I hope will guide action to be taken after the preparation of your reports.

1. Article 187(5) of the Constitution mandates the Auditor-General to submit his report to Parliament and in that report, draw attention to any irregularities in the accounts audited. Section 16 of the Audit Service Act, 2000 (Act 584) clearly indicates that reports on special audits and reviews, as the one conducted in respect of the COVID-19 transactions, are subject to the requirement for the Auditor-General to submit the reports to Parliament.

2. Article 187(6) of the Constitution requires Parliament to debate the report of the Auditor-General and appoint, where necessary and in the public interest, a committee to deal with any matters arising from it. This is repeated in section 21 of Act 584. Over the years, the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) seems to be the committee designated by Parliament to interrogate issues arising out of the Auditor-General’s reports. It is only after satisfying the constitutional requirement of submitting the auditor general’s report to Parliament, the subsequent debate by

Parliament thereon and conclusion of work by the appropriate committee of Parliament, that the report of the Auditor-General may be considered final and relevant action may be taken thereon.

3. I observe that the report of the special audit on the Government’s COVID-19 transactions has been published on the website of the Audit Service. In light of the constitutional provisions pertaining to the duty of the Auditor-General after the preparation of audit reports, I consider a publication of the COVID-19 audit report or indeed any audit report particularly when same has not been either considered by Parliament or referred to a committee of Parliament, premature.

4. I am mindful of the provision in section 23 of Act 584 which seems to mandate a publication of the reports as soon as they have been presented to the Speaker to be laid before Parliament. However, the laws governing the functions of the Auditor-General ought to be construed as a whole. The constitutional duty of the Auditor-General to submit his reports to Parliament and Parliament’s consequential obligation to debate and scrutinise same, will be grossly prejudiced by a prior publication of the report.

The proceedings of the PAC provide an opportunity for irregularities raised by the Auditor-General to be interrogated and queried. Persons and institutions affected by the report receive a further hearing on the findings of the Auditor-General’s reports at the proceedings of the PAC in Parliament. A prior publication of the Auditor-General’s report completely undermines the purport and meaning of article 187(5) and (6) and should not be encouraged. Consequently, I advise a withdrawal of the report on the Government COVID-19 transactions from your website before same has been debated by Parliament and considered by the appropriate committee of Parliament.

5. Further, as pointed out in previous letters by the Attorney-General to your office over the years, there has been a glaring omission to indicate in the notices served on the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice, satisfaction by the Auditor-General of the mandatory procedure enjoined by section 17 of Act 584, in order to be able to execute a disallowance and surcharge.

6. As you would recall, I have, in previous communication with you, indicated that in accordance with section 17 of Act 584, certain steps ought to be complied with by the Audit Service after an audit report has been subjected to the scrutiny of the PAC. These steps border on the issuance of disallowances and surcharges by the Auditor-General.

i. the relevant head of department or institution to whom the amounts stated in the notice of surcharge or disallowance are due, must be notified of the surcharge or disallowance, the reasons for the surcharge or disallowance as well as when this was done. Please see section 17(1) of Act 584

(ii) notices served on the Attorney-General must indicate whether the affected individuals and institutions have been served with the notice of surcharge or disallowance and, if so, when this was done. Please see section 17(2) of Act 584.

iii. Information confirming compliance with the statutory steps and when same was done is crucial for the
Attorney-General to institute legal action against specified defaulters.

7. By letters dated 21st December 2017, 14th December 2018 and 21st January 2019, the Attorney-General informed the then Auditor-General about lapses in the notices of disallowance and surcharge served on the Attorney-General in order for him to remedy same. Unfortunately, to date, some have not been remedied.

8. It is only through due process, particularly the observance of the processes stated above, that we can realise the true import and effect of article 187 of the Constitution. There ought to be enhanced cooperation between the Audit Service and the Office of the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Justice. These two institutions are at the forefront of the quest for public accountability, probity, the rule of law and the rooting out of corruption and malpractices in Ghana, and therefore are left with no option but to collaborate. In this regard, I have set up a special team in my Ministry, jointly headed by the Solicitor-General and the Director of Public Prosecutions, specifically charged with coordinating with your outfit in order to promptly act, in accordance with law, on established irregularities contained in the Auditor-General’s reports.

I would appreciate if you could set up a similar team to work with my office. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.

NPP ruined its image using Asiedu Nketia as its standard – Kwabena Agyepong

0

Former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has lashed out at leadership of his party saying the image of the party stands low today because they made Mr Asiedu Nketia of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) their standard.

According to him, the politics of insults which the Former General Secretary of the NDC practiced wasn’t the principle upon which the NPP was founded.

Speaking to Kwame Tanko on the show “Angel In the Morning” Mr Agyapong revealed that, it is one of the reasons why he contested the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John.

“That is one of the reasons why I decided to contest the General Secretary to remove him (Sir John) from the office,” he said.

He believes he Sir John at the time in office was tarnishing the image of the party by making Mr Nketia his standard when it comes to communication, adding that the practice also took away the love people had for the party.

“The brotherly love in the party got missing because people began to speak anyhow. The sacrifice, togetherness, respect that made people like the party changed because at a point we made Asiedu Nketia our standard,” Mr Agyepong lamented.

To him, the politics of insults is driving away competent people who could help the country from coming into politics.

Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John served the NPP as General Secretary from the year 2010 to 2014 and lost to Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in his bid to secure a second term.

Ing. Kwabena Agyepong is aspiring to lead the NPP in the 2024 general election as the flagbearer.

He is contesting people like Hon Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, Former Minister for Agric Dr Afriyie Akoto, Former Trade Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, Mr Francis Addai Nimoh, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku and Mr Joe Ghartey.

Though Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has not openly declared his intention to contest, it is obvious he will join the race looking at the conversation most party leaders are having recently.

The party has set November 4, 2023, for the conduct of primaries to elect its flagbearer to face the NDC in the 2024 general election.

A race against time: Unveiling Ghana’s kidney crisis

0

In the heart of Ghana, where vibrant culture meets the undeniable pulse of life, a silent crisis has been unfolding.

Behind the colourful fabrics, the rhythmic beats of the drums, and the smiles of its people lies a stark reality—a kidney crisis that has gripped the nation.

It all started with a ground-breaking study, “50 years of haemodialysis in Ghana: current status, utilisation, and cost of dialysis services,” authored by Elliot Koranteng Tannor and his dedicated team.

The findings in this yet-to-be-published study shed light on the dire situation Ghana faces regarding kidney care.

The numbers!
The research laid bare the cold, hard facts. Ghana has 51 dialysis centres, but only 40 of them are operational. A staggering 65% of these life-saving facilities are concentrated in the bustling Greater Accra region, leaving other regions in the shadows.

The imbalance!
The geographical imbalance is palpable. While Greater Accra basks in the glow of healthcare access, the Ashanti region boasts just 17.5% of the functioning centres. Seven other regions, encompassing nearly 18.5% of the population, have just one centre each.

The machines that matter
Ghana has a total of 299 dialysis machines, with a median of 6 machines per centre. However, this equates to a meagre 9.7 machines per million people. The patient-to-machine ratio is equally concerning, with approximately four patients vying for each machine.

The struggle for survival
Dialysis prevalence stands at 38.8 patients per million population. The numbers differ dramatically between public and private centres, with the former accommodating more patients.

Quality of care is at stake, with 57.5% of centres lacking a resident nephrologist. Ghana’s nephrologist density is a mere 0.44 per million population, painting a bleak picture for patients in need.

The unreachable dream
In this tale of woe, accessibility is a recurring theme. Seven regions, home to nearly one-fifth of the population, are barren deserts when it comes to dialysis centres.

The harsh truth is that 92% of kidney failure patients have no access to dialysis, casting a dark shadow over their chances of survival.

The cost of life
The financial toll of this crisis is severe. The mean dialysis cost per session is $53.9, and patients are forced to choose between public and private centres where costs vary.

Public centres offer a glimmer of hope with a lower cost of $48.2 per session, while private facilities charge $56.7.

The absent lifeline
Perhaps the cruellest blow is the absence of government support. The National Health Insurance Scheme, designed to provide a safety net, doesn’t cover dialysis costs. This leaves most patients to fend for themselves, forced to bear the heavy burden of paying for their life-sustaining treatments out of pocket.

The race against time
As the sun sets over Ghana’s beautiful landscape, the kidney crisis remains a dark and looming shadow. The study by Dr Elliot Koranteng Tannor and his team has exposed the harsh realities faced by the nation’s kidney failure patients.

It’s a race against time to bridge the gap in accessibility, improve the quality of care, and alleviate the financial burden for those who need it most.

Ghana’s kidney crisis is no longer silent. It’s a rallying cry for change, a plea for help, and a testament to the resilience of a people who refuse to let their nation be defined by this crisis.

When we were campaigning for Akufo-Addo in 2016, where were you? – A Plus blasts Owusu Bempah –

0

Controversial musician and political activist, Kwame A Plus has lambasted the Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah for being the mastermind behind the invasion of UTV.

He noted that he was part and parcel of the campaign team for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2016 general elections and invested financially in the bid to ensure NPP won power.

The political activist questioned the commitment of Ernest Owusu Bempah to the NPP and stated that he was nowhere to be found when they were campaigning vigorously for President Akufo-Addo in 2016 hence he is not more loyal to the party than him.

Speaking as a panelist on the UnitedShowbiz Program which GhanaWeb monitored on Saturday, October 7, 2023, Kwame A Plus lamented the recent attacks on the media and chided Ernest Owusu Bempah for his alleged involvement in the thug’s invasion of UTV.

“When I was with Akufo-Addo touring with him [for campaigning] where were you by then? How much did you invest in the campaign?” he quizzed.

“Everybody is afraid in this country, why? Owusu Bempah, when the late Jerry John Rawlings was president we were musicians, where were you? When it happens like this it affects the whole NPP as a party. Are Justin Kodua, Nana B, and Stephen Ntim, not NPP members? Have they sent somebody here?

“So we cannot attack the whole NPP because of one idiot. During the 2016 campaign before Akufo-Addo became president, I went to Asawase with my boys to campaign against Muntaka [Mohammed] during the parliamentary elections, where were you then?” pained Kwame A Plus fumed.

He made the remarks after alleged thugs affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the studios of UTV and abruptly halted the live broadcast of United Showbiz.

Approximately seven minutes into the show, which was broadcast live on GhanaWeb, voices of agitation could be heard in the background as host Mzgee introduced the program.

The evident confusion on the host’s face was followed by an extended break in production before the program was eventually taken off the air.

Numerous reports that emerged after the sudden interruption of the production suggested that the show was disrupted by a group of men who entered the studios with hostile intentions.

According to the reports, the agitated individuals had entered the studio with the apparent aim of confronting Kwame A Plus, who is a regular panel member on the show.

Subsequent videos shared on social media depicted a chaotic scene within the UTV studio, with several men calling out for A Plus.

“We are waiting for A Plus today… A Plus has to explain to us why he tore our paper from the NPP party. We are here, we are waiting for A Plus. We are protecting our party property,” one of the men is heard shouting in the studio.

WhatsApp Is Getting A Makeover: Leaked Images Reveal An Entirely New Design Coming To iPhone And Android | Technology

0

WhatsApp is preparing to make some major changes to its platform, with new design features reportedly coming to iPhone and Android.

Insiders claim that Mark Zuckerberg’s messaging app could have a complete makeover in the coming months, with a series of design tweaks in the works.

Revamped colours and new buttons are reportedly among them, although the independent WhatApp news website WABetaInfo says these changes may vary depending on the device you own.

Meanwhile, conversation filters are reportedly part of both iPhone and Android tests, with users able to categorise messages into ‘All’, ‘Unread’, ‘Personal’ and ‘Business’.

‘We are very happy to announce that WhatsApp is finally working on improving the interface of the app by bringing a redesign,’ WABetaInfo wrote.

‘The redesign includes revamped buttons for the navigation bar, that will make the interface more modern.

‘In addition, WhatsApp also intends to add a filter row that will let users sort their chats using two filters: personal conversations and business chats.’

While many features are still in the development stages, sources claim that some are being tested on WhatsApp Beta – a program that allows users to try out features before they are released more widely.

Images also hint that new colours have been more widely tested on iOS versions of WhatsApp, with notifications, time stamps and tabs switched from blue to a more brand-appropriate shade of green.

Meanwhile, the so-called ‘2.23.18.18’ Android test has reportedly trialled a menu title with the app’s name in green at the top.

Other tests have also looked into multi-account options too, meaning multiple profiles will function on a single device in future.

If true, it would put WhatsApp in line with Twitter, or ‘X’, which also allows users to switch between different accounts in a matter of seconds.

The reported changes follow clashes between Zuckerberg and X owner Elon Musk over the new ‘Twitter-killer’ app Threads released by the former’s firm Meta, which also owns Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

It’s unclear whether both iPhone and Android will support the same updates on the ‘beta’ version of the app – which is released for customers to test so that niggles can be ironed out – and the main app.

Conservation filters, new colours and the revamped menu tab are said to be in the development stages and not yet ready for beta users.

But Android’s multi-account options are available to some and will be rolled out more widely in the coming days, sources claim.

Davido links up with Chris Brown, Poco Lee for ‘Unavailable’ dance challenge

Davido, on Wednesday, was joined by Chris Brown and popular dancer Poco Lee for the ‘Unavailable’ challenge.

The 30-year-old singer shared a video of Poco Lee and superstar performer Chris Brown on his social media handles.

Underneath the video, Davido shared why the moment came to be. “I had to bring them together,” he captioned his Twitter post. “Two of the most fire dancers from two different worlds. Guess who? ‘Unavailable’ challenge [is] still goin’! Just ask the family.”

The challenge’s title is also the same name as Davido’s lead single off his new album, Timeless. On March 31, the Nigerian songwriter dropped the 17-track project. Since then, the album has been a commercial success around the world.

Joining forces on the “Unavailable” challenge is not the first time Brown and Davido have worked together.

Throughout their friendship, the two artists have collaborated on several songs, including “Blow Your Mind,” “Shopping Spree,” and “Nobody Has to Know.”

In 2021, the International record producer spoke with DJ Carisma of Power 106 about working with Brown and Young Thug on “Shopping Spree.” “Shoutout to Chris. Shoutout to Thug,” he said in the interview. “We’ve worked countless times. Those were like one of the first people to acknowledge the [Afrobeats] movement.”

“Like even when it wasn’t poppin’, you know what I’m sayin’. So, it’s just amazing to do music with people you know, like you, they have been believing this. They [are] part of the culture if you ask me.”

On July 1, Davido will begin his “Timeless Tour.” The highly anticipated experience will start in Washington, D.C. and end on Nov. 18 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Minority slams govt over escalating food prices

0

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has raised concerns over the escalating prices of foodstuffs in the country, challenging the effectiveness and impact of the government’s much-touted Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative.

The Caucus expressed deep dissatisfaction with the escalating food prices, noting that despite the approval and allocation of billions of Cedis for the implementation of the PFJ intervention, it has not delivered the anticipated positive outcomes.

In his opening remarks in Parliament on Tuesday, June 11, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson painted a stark picture of the current economic hardship faced by many Ghanaians.

Using the rising price of tomatoes as his baseline, the Minority Leader highlighted the steep increase in food prices, which he said has exacerbated the cost of living of Ghanaians and placed a heavy burden on households across the nation.

“The price of a bucket of tomatoes, which was sold at GH¢75 at the beginning of this year, now sells at GH¢180. This represents an increase of 140%. Mr Speaker, the price of a crate of tomatoes increased by more than 360% between January and June this year alone, moving from GH¢1,500 to GH¢7,000. Times are very hard and Ghanaians are really suffering.

“Right Honourable Speaker, I am curious and I want to ask what has happened to the billions of Ghana Cedis approved by this House for the government’s so-called flagship programme, Planting for Food and Jobs. Where is the food and where are the jobs?”

TV presenter ‘drills’ Nana Bediako Cheddar over his claim that he made his first 1 million pounds by age 21 in 2001 selling scraps

0

Nana Kwame Bediako, aka Cheddar who is aspiring to be President of Ghana in a fresh interview with Citi TV still maintained his claim of making his first million pounds at the age of 21.

Nana Kwame Bediako who is also known as Jacob Freedom and also liked to be addressed as the Prince of Africa ever since announcing that he’s the man behind the infamous masked man billboards has been on several media tours to outline his vision and what he can do for the country should he be elected President of Ghana in the 2024 general elections.

Nana Kwame Bediako aka Cheddar

Cheddar whose net worth is in the region of $700-$900 million always faces the challenge of explaining how he started and ever since he came into the media limelight back in 2017 there about, he’s always maintained that he made his first million pounds at the age of 21 dealing in scraps in the UK and also a telecommunications business he started then.

In the video attached below, you could watch his journey from how he even started his first business at the age of 9 selling eggs after he had used money gifted to him to buy two hens that laid several eggs for him each month and how it expanded before moving into the UK with the help of his rich dad back in the 90s.

Watch VIDEO below:

In this fresh interview, Bernard Avle questioned him on how he made his money and when Cheddar answered that he had made his first million pounds in by the age of 21 and decided to move back to Ghana in 2001 and started his first business which was a nightclub in 2002, the host looked puzzled, as he struggles to grasp how he was able to make that much money by the age of 21 in the UK.

Given that the value of  1 million pounds in 2001 would be around 2 million pounds then it’s a little bit confusing that he was able to make that much, and it’s something that most people find it hard to believe.

Trotro Driver’s Girlfriend Storms Station, Because He Didn’t Give Her Enough Chop Money

0

A Rickshaw driver has been severely humiliated by his girlfriend over housekeeping money, sometimes known as chop money.

Once he left, the fiancée of the boyfriend attacked his station in Sapeiman, Greater Accra, to demand more money because she believed it was insufficient.

She pledged not to allow him to move the car until he had stuffed it full of cash and was standing in front of it.

When the man moved to Accra, all he had done, according to the man’s girlfriend, was gambling away his money.

The man invited her to come sit in the car, but she declined.

She was overheard being advised by one of the station’s drivers that, despite having a compelling argument, her annoyance is inappropriate given the way she is acting.

When other station drivers made fun of her for being a hassle, she once tried to attack them.

The following are some of the responses to the question of whether it is okay to attack men in order to steal their money:

A man shouldn’t be attacked if he doesn’t pay “chop money,” in other words. Money provided to a girlfriend or spouse for the purpose of covering meal costs or other expenses is referred to as “chop money” in this context. Although it is a custom in some cultures, it is not required by law.

If a man has promised to give his girlfriend or spouse “chop money,” he should stick to his word. Instead of using violence, he should speak to his spouse honestly and openly if he is unable or reluctant to do so.

Attacking someone for failing to pay “chop money” is a violation of their human rights, and using physical force to settle conflicts or problems is never appropriate. Someone should contact law enforcement or other support agencies if they are facing violence or threats of violence in this situation.

JK Rowling Dismisses Trans Comments Backlash

0

JK Rowling

JK Rowling has said she isn’t concerned about how the backlash to her position on transgender issues will affect her legacy, and that anyone who thinks she is has “profoundly” misunderstood her.

The ‘Harry Potter’ author has been called transphobic for her views on gender identity and the question of allowing trans women into women-only spaces.

Speaking in a new podcast, Rowling said she “never meant to upset anyone”.

“However, I was not uncomfortable with getting off my pedestal.”

Referring to fans who claim she has “ruined” her legacy, Rowling said they “could not have misunderstood me more profoundly”.

“I do not walk around my house thinking about my legacy,” she continued.

“What a pompous way to live your life, walking around thinking, what will my legacy be? Whatever, I’ll be dead. I care about now. I care about the living.”

Rowling has attracted extensive criticism for a series of comments voicing concerns about how trans issues affect women’s rights and her opposition to Scotland’s gender recognition bill.

In an essay on her website in 2020, she wrote: “When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman… you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside.”

Her position has been interpreted by some as transphobic, leading to calls for a boycott of the Harry Potter franchise, ranging from its books and movies to the blockbuster video game ‘Hogwarts Legacy’.

Why Otumfuo dropped his golden jewellery for silver at his 25th anniversary event –

0

One of the most profound and popular appellations and titles used in paying homage to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is that he is the custodian of the Golden Stool.

Owing to his position as the premier and most revered personality from Asanteman, Otumfuo embodies everything Asanteman which is inclusive of the rich gold resources the area boasts of.

Therefore, it has become a norm to see the Asantehene wearing golden ornaments at public events.

The practice does not just reflect the wealth of gold Asanteman boasts of but is also a continuation of the tradition that depicts Asanteman as the richest kingdom in not just Ghana but Africa.

This tradition existed long before Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and he has since his installation, some 25 years ago, done exceedingly well to entrench it.

However, on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as the ruler of Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo opted for silver jewellery for his celebrations.

Photos and videos from the event held on Friday, April 26, 2024, captured the Asantehene draped in a white Kente cloth with beautiful silver pieces of jewellery on his neck and hand.

While there has been no official reason for the decision by the revered King to settle for silver ornaments instead of gold, the assumption is that the preference for silver over gold by Otumfuo this time around was to underscore the significance of the occasion.

25 years is deemed to be a Silver Jubilee and therefore Otumfuo, who is a revered man of class with an impeccable sense of timing and fashion, opted for the silver jewellery to mark the important milestone in his rulership.

Transforming a crisis into a journey toward prosperity

0

Ghana is making important inroads to stabilize its economy, and continued program implementation beckons a brighter future.

When Ghana requested an IMF-supported program in July 2022, the country was dealing with an economic and financial crisis that was the outcome of preexisting vulnerabilities and substantial external shocks. The authorities have since made compelling progress under the program that was approved by the IMF Board in May 2023.

Two years ago, elevated fiscal deficits and public debt levels, together with the combined effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and global monetary policy tightening, triggered a drop in international investor confidence in Ghana, resulting in a loss of international market access.

This generated increasing pressures on domestic financing, with the government turning to monetary financing by the central bank, which fed into declining international reserves, currency depreciation, and accelerating inflation.

Now, the Ghanaian economy is showing signs of stabilization thanks to the authorities’ steadfast implementation of its IMF-supported economic program, which aims to restore macroeconomic stability, secure debt sustainability, and lay the foundations for higher and more inclusive growth.

Policy and reform commitment under the program

The Ghanaian authorities have been taking bold steps to restore macroeconomic stability, including through their budgets for 2023 and 2024 which emphasize fiscal consolidation and sound public finances. These efforts are underpinned by structural reforms aimed to enhance domestic resource mobilization, strengthen public financial management, and create a business environment that better fosters private sector development.

This is all geared toward securing durable macroeconomic stability, catalyzing growth, and ensuring a fairer distribution of its rewards among Ghana’s people.

Alongside this, the Bank of Ghana has appropriately increased interest rates and eliminated monetary financing of the budget. Although inflation remains high, it is headed in the right direction: down to 23 percent in December 2023 from a record high of 54 percent in December 2022.

The Bank of Ghana is determined to maintain policies that will continue to bring inflation down to levels consistent with their inflation targeting framework. The authorities have also designed a solid plan to ensure financial sector stability.

While the authorities’ fiscal efforts will be instrumental in ensuring long-term debt sustainability, the government also launched a comprehensive debt restructuring operation in December 2022. This includes a domestic debt voluntary exchange, which has been successfully concluded, and two external debt operations, one with official bilateral creditors and the other with commercial creditors.

Under the G20’s Common Framework, the Ghanaian authorities have recently reached agreement in principle with their official creditors on a debt treatment consistent with the program parameters. They are also engaging their external commercial creditors to seek their support.

Turning the corner: early signs of stabilization

Performance under the program has so far been compelling, with signs of stabilization emerging and the economy turning the corner. Despite a difficult global economic environment, growth in 2023 has shown resilience. Alongside this and the significant decline in inflation, the currency has recovered from its sharp depreciation (by 45 percent vis-à-vis the US dollar) at end-2022 and has been less volatile, with international reserves increasing.

This is thanks to steadfast policy implementation around aligning the budget with the program, meeting program targets (especially net international reserve accumulation and primary fiscal balance), and carrying out key structural reforms, especially in the financial and the energy sectors.

The social dimension: efforts to protect the vulnerable

In undertaking bold reforms to overcome an economic crisis, it is crucial to safeguard vulnerable people, and the Ghanaian authorities are working hard to expand the most effective social protection programs.

In 2023, they doubled the benefits under the existing targeted cash transfer program, the Living Empowerment Against Poverty, and these benefits are expected to be doubled again in 2024, increasing the benefit coverage from about 6 percent to 12 percent (of household pre-transfer consumption)—and helping to significantly reduce poverty and inequality.

In the education sector, allocations toward the Ghana School Feeding Program and the Capitation Grant also received a boost. And, in the health sector, the authorities have expanded the allocation to the National Health Insurance Authority by over 40 percent to cover medical claims, essential medicines, and vaccines for the most vulnerable.

These are critical interventions to protect the vulnerable which are regularly monitored under the IMF-supported program.

The path forward

Looking ahead it is important for Ghana to lock in the gains so far and continue steadfast implementation of the program, despite challenges associated with potential external shocks and the political environment in the run-up to the 2024 Presidential and parliamentary elections.

Sound policies are expected to foster the recovery, bringing economic growth back to long-term potential and protecting the vulnerable, while inflation is projected to decline further. And fiscal consolidation and the completion of the debt restructuring operations would ensure that public debt is brought back to a sustainable trajectory.

If the authorities continue to implement their package of policies and reforms with the commitment and drive demonstrated so far, sustained implementation of the program promises to bring a brighter future to all Ghanaians.

How long should a lady stay on the bed after having sèx for spèrm to fertilize her egg?

0

The journey to conception can be an exciting and emotional time for couples trying to conceive. One common question that arises is how long a woman should stay in bed after sèxual intercourse to increase the chances of spèrm fertilizing the egg. In this detailed article which is in accordance to healthline, we will explore the factors that affect sperm survival and the optimal timing for post-coital bed rest. While bed rest after intercourse is not a guarantee of fertilization, understanding the role of timing and the potential impact of post-coital activities can provide valuable insights for couples on their conception journey.

I. Spèrm Survival and Timing:

Lifespan of Spèrm: Spèrm cells can survive inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, depending on various factors such as the quality of the Spèrm, cervical mucus, and overall vaginal environment.

Ovulation: The timing of intercourse in relation to ovulation is crucial for fertilization. Ovulation typically occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle, with a fertile window of approximately six days. The highest chance of conception is within the 24 to 48 hours leading up to ovulation.

II. Post-Coital Activities and Fertilization:

Gravity and Spèrm Migration: Some experts suggest that remaining in a reclined position for a short period after intercourse may assist Spèrm in reaching the cervix. The idea is that gravity may facilitate the migration of Spèrm towards the cervix and increase the chances of fertilization.

Cervical Mucus and Spèrm Transport: Cervical mucus plays a crucial role in facilitating Spèrm transport through the cervix and into the fallopian tubes. The consistency and quality of cervical mucus change throughout the menstrual cycle, with the most fertile mucus resembling raw egg whites. This fertile cervical mucus provides a favorable environment for Spèrm survival and mobility.

III. Bed Rest and Fertility:

Limited Scientific Evidence: While many couples believe that remaining in bed after intercourse increases the chances of conception, scientific evidence on the effectiveness of bed rest is limited. Several studies have found no significant difference in pregnancy rates between women who stayed in bed after intercourse and those who resumed normal activities immediately.

Individual Comfort and Relaxation: Engaging in post-coital bed rest may have psychological benefits, allowing couples to relax and bond after intercourse. It can also create a conducive environment for emotional intimacy and support during the conception process.

IV. Additional Factors for Consideration:

Female Anatomy and Positioning: Each woman’s anatomy is unique, and factors such as the tilt of the uterus and the positioning of the cervix may influence the effectiveness of bed rest. Experimenting with different positions, such as elevating the hips with a pillow, may be worth exploring.

Overall Lifestyle and Health: Fertility is influenced by various lifestyle factors, diet, exercise, stress levels, and overall health. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and addressing any underlying health conditions can positively impact fertility outcomes.

While the optimal duration of bed rest after intercourse remains uncertain, understanding the role of timing and the potential impact of post-coital activities can contribute to a couple’s conception journey. While there is limited scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of bed rest in increasing the chances of fertilization, engaging in activities that promote relaxation, emotional bonding, and intimacy can be beneficial. Couples should also focus on optimizing overall health, addressing any underlying fertility issues, and understanding their individual fertility patterns. Ultimately, open communication, support, and patience are key during this exciting and sometimes challenging process of trying to conceive

Chief appeals for construction of road and market centre

0

By Caesar Abagali

Pinda (UER), May 14, GNA – Pinda Pio, Pe Ernest Abachogelogo Ajuayipe II, the paramount Chief of the Pindaa Traditional Area in the Kassena Nankana Municipality has appealed for infrastructure development in the area to improve the living conditions of the people.

He said areas of major concern needing urgent support included the construction of the road linking Pinda and Navrongo, Pinda and Paga as well as Pinda linking the Paga border to boost economic activities.

Other areas he mentioned are the expansion of the Pinda dam for dry season farming and providing a Senior High School to absorb children from the Pinda Junior High School to improve educational standards.

Pe Ajuayipe told the GNA on Tuesday that the community members engage in commercial farming activities producing pepper, tomato, groundnuts and cereals but lack of a market centre and bad roads hinders productivity.

He explained that the entire Pinda enclave had the potential for farming to feed the Upper East and other regions due to the available vast virgin lands.

He said because there was not a market centre in the area, traders come from Navrongo, Paga and Bolga to Pinda to dictate low prices to farmers who had no choice or other alternatives.

Pe Ajuayipe said the fast-developing nature of Pinda required the provision of the needed basic amenities including improvement in the existing facilities such as the health centre and schools.

“I am appealing to the government through the Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly to help construct a market for us so that a designated market day will be set to ensure our farmers are able to sell their products”, he said.

“I also appeal to the Assembly and the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central to come together to see how best they can help us with at least a Day Senior High School so that our children don’t have to trek long distances to Navrongo or Paga for Secondary school education”, he said.

He said though Pinda was a border community, there was no police post saying, “Measures should also be put in place to give us a police post”.

Mr Joseph Adongo, the Kassena Nankana Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) told the GNA that he would speak with the Municipal Education Directorate for advice for the provision of a Community Day Senior High School.

“I will also liaise with the Pinda chief, contact development partners to assist the assembly to construct the market and the expansion of the dam”, he promised.

The most expensive lesson I ever learned on a date

0

We were the last ones sitting in the restaurant.

We chatted about life and philosophy, love and romance, and of all things, dating.

She couldn’t find time to date being a resident doctor.

She was busy every day of the week and her working schedule was erratic.

Her work and life made it hard for her to date but she was convinced it was because there weren’t enough good men out there.

“Where are all the good men?” she finally asked me.

“They’re around,” I promised, “You might just need to catch your breath and slow down so you can find them. They’re everywhere — maybe even sitting in front of you.”

Our first date

We had both walked into the restaurant together earlier in the evening.

We met online a few days back and sent several messages back and forth.

She told me about her work as a doctor. I told her about my writing dream that I was working on.

“What do you write about?” she asked.

“Ugh…you don’t want to know,” I laughed.

“You know…just the usual stuff…love and heartbreak and love after heartbreak.”

“Interesting. Different. When can we meet up for dinner?” she promptly asked.

Time flies on a good date

We found each other outside by the fountain in front of the restaurant.

Cool weather, a water fountain, and romantic lighting at the restaurant — this was going to be a great date and it started off that way.

We started chatting outside as we were waiting for our table. After we were seated inside, our conversation flowed all throughout the night as we ordered dinner and a glass of wine each.

We had both been divorced and were both venturing out to date again.

Since I had written a lot about heartbreak and divorce, she was genuinely curious about my discoveries and my insights.

She asked and I answered.

I then asked about her difficult marriage, controlling ex, and unsupportive in-laws.

Talking about our exes and our past relationship may not have been the best thing to talk about on a first date but somehow we ended up there.

We both had a lot to say about these things and two hours passed without either of us even noticing.

Splitting the dinner check

Eventually, the waiter came around to bring us our checks.

The restaurant staff had also been clearing tables and turning off lights.

The message from the restaurant was loud and clear: We could continue talking and getting to know each other but not there anymore. We needed to get going!

I promptly put my credit card on top of the check and let the waiter know we were ready to pay. Without hesitating, my date also pulled out her credit card and put it on top of mine.

“It’s okay, I got it,” I offered.

“No, I insist,” she said as she gave the check and both of our credit cards to the waiter to split the dinner bill.

As the waiter went to run our credit cards, I thought I would pop the big question.

Another date in our future?

Our conversation and evening had gone so well. We were both talking about the intellectual and the philosophical. We both had broken down our stories of love and heartbreak. We had spoken about marriage and divorce.

At some point, she said that she really appreciated the conversation we were having. So many dates had gone badly because her dates spoke about the mundane and the common, not about relationships, psychology, and philosophy.

I hemmed and hawed before I popped the question, “So, we are going to go out again, right?”

Her laughter suddenly stopped. Her smile vanished from her face. She started sobering up from the glass of wine she had during dinner.

“Oh, Vishnu, I’m having such a great time,” she said, “and learning a lot from you.”

“I would love to read your blog and become a reader but I thought you knew.”

“Knew what?” I asked bewildered.

I sure as heck wasn’t here to pick up readers for my blog!?

“Knew that I split the bill with you,” she said.

“I know, but what does that have to with anything?” I asked naively. “You didn’t have to pay either. I told you I’d get the dinner — you were great company.”

“Well,” she replied, “I guess you don’t know, but for me when I split the bill, I know this isn’t going to work out. Romantically, I mean. I would still love to keep in touch and be your reader.”

“Wait, what?!?” I blurted out as my head felt like it was exploding.

“You only pay when the date isn’t going anywhere?”

“Yeah,” she replied matter of factly. “I only let a guy pay if I like him. If it’s not going anywhere, I don’t feel like the guy should pay for both of us. Those are my values and it’s what seems fair to me.”

I was speechless.

After a few moments of silence, I asked if she was the only one who did this.

“I mean…is this a thing? Do your friends do this too?”

“I do it” she replied. “I also know a few girlfriends of mine who do this. We’ve talked about it amongst ourselves. We don’t feel like it’s right to make the guy pay when we don’t like him.”

“Oh,” I said deflated and wanting to slide away underneath the table.

“But I do like you,” she jumped in, “just not like that…you know…”

Oh, I know all right.

An expensive lesson learned

After we said our goodbyes, I returned home having gained a reader for my blog but not a second date.

I researched dating forums and googled Youtube videos to see if there was anyone talking about this dating phenomenon I had just experienced.

I had never made up my mind on what was the best practice when it came to paying for dinner dates.

The only two thoughts that used to run through my mind were if I was to pay or if we were to split it if she offered to pay.

This new thought and realization blew my mind.

When some women offer to pay for the date, they are doing the right thing in their mind and sharing the cost of the meal with you. When they split the bill, they are not signing up for a second date.

Not only did my date split the bill with me but she left me with an invaluable dating lesson that would help me gauge how future dates were going.

Anytime someone insisted on splitting the bill, I knew this was going to be the last time that I would be seeing that person again. If she let me pay, on the other hand, there just might be a future between both of us.

When you become his permanent side chick

The man isn’t sure whether to tell his friend’s partner (stock photo) (Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)

Bella was the kind of girl who got the guy. She didn’t have to try so hard to get people to like her since she was naturally likeable. Bella was a fun girl but still had a lot of focus in life. She worked for a real estate company and, at the same time, was pursuing her Master’s degree. Yet despite being that busy, she still had time to enjoy life.

She was petite, with an even skin tone, and had a great sense of humour. It was no wonder that John was drawn to her immediately they met. They met on a Friday in a famous club in the city. John had been dragged into going out by one of his boys. Well, there could also have been the promise of female company. However, John didn’t really like any of the girls his friend had invited. So he went to the counter to take a break, and there she was, tiny and gorgeous with hair that looked like a mane.

“Hi,” John said, hoping to strike a conversation with Bella.

“Hi,” said Bella with a bit of a stutter as she decided whether she wanted to engage in the chat.

Realizing that his window was fast closing John quickly responded.

“I see the gin bug has caught on to you too,” he said, looking at her drink.

“If the hype is worthwhile, you’ve got to go with it,” she said as she turned to have a better look at him.

“Is it though or are we just following the crowd?”

“I don’t know what gin you’ve been taking but I assure you there are quite several decent brands,” Bella said with so much passion.

“Enlighten me.”

John got a crash course on gin. It wasn’t the gin knowledge that mesmerized him but Bella’s confidence. The night was finally beginning to shape up. He had found someone interesting to talk to, and since both were not dancers, they decided to take the conversation to the parking lot.

They talked for about two hours before realizing that it was almost 3 a.m.

“I’ve got to leave I have to be at work at 9 a.m,” said Bella.

“Oh common, one more hour won’t make such a big difference,” John pleaded.

After a short debate, Bella decided to stay.

“So I’m going to be honest with you. I came out today because I’m having issues with my girlfriend, so my friend decided to get me some company, but it wasn’t working out,” John said, not entirely sure if that was an intelligent thing to say.

“Hmmh, such a typical guy!” Bella responded.

“I know but if you knew my story then you wouldn’t be judging me.”

“That’s exactly why I don’t like exclusive relationships, too much drama and pressure,” Bella told him.

That was how their relationship started. After about two weeks of nonstop chatting, they agreed to see each other. Bella was okay with being the side chick, but she made it clear that she was also free to see other people. The arrangement worked for about a year. John would never go out with his main girlfriend, and Bella was the perfect company. She understood his dark humour, she was presentable, and they could also talk about serious stuff.

It was going well, or so they lied. Behind the scenes, John was falling in love with Bella but could not admit it to her because he was still in a relationship with his main girlfriend. Bella didn’t seem like she wanted to commit to him, so he thought she would break his hurt. On the other hand, Bella loved John, but she would never suggest that he should leave his girl. She could also see how he treated his main girlfriend and didn’t want to be in a similar situation.

Eventually, John broke up with his main girlfriend and told Bella about it. The news had several effects on their arrangement. Now they saw each other more frequently and without any guilt. Bella thought that maybe they could be exclusive since she was in love with John. On the other hand, John could also see a future with Bella because she was everything he thought he wanted. In fact, they even started talking about future plans and even went to view pieces of land they could purchase. The parcels of land were adjacent, and each would buy their share, so it was ideal if they ended up together. However, they did not discuss what was next for their arrangement.

Things were seemingly rosy, and Bella was working up the courage to let John know that she wanted more. However, her plans were put on hold when she randomly walked into a restaurant and found John on a date with another woman. It was so awkward for both of them. The other woman exuded a vibe that made it clear that she was marking her territory.

Bella left that restaurant with her heart broken. She felt disrespected, but she also knew they had not committed to dating. Her heart had betrayed her and had fallen for the guy. So she decided the best way to keep her heart in check was to get out her phone book and go out with someone else. Unfortunately, the heart is not an on and off switch, so going out with someone else couldn’t make her forget John.

John texted her after a couple of days to make plans for a weekend getaway. Bella told him that she already had other plans. John was disappointed, and he imagined that she had made plans with another guy since they were not exclusive. He knew he had no right to be jealous since this was part of their arrangement. It also made him realize that he would never feel secure with her.

So as they both hid their true feelings for each other, John started seeing another girl. Within a couple of months, John made it official with the new girl. John told Bella the update during one of their meetings. Bella didn’t respond to his messages after that, so John finally asked.

“I feel like you’re mad at me.”

“Why would I be?” Bella asked.

“Ever since I told you about my new girlfriend you’ve been weird.”

“Was I supposed to throw a party for you?”

“No need for sarcasm, I thought you were okay with our arrangement. Why didn’t you say anything?” John asked.

“You really think I want to be your permanent side chick?”

“I told you I broke up with my girlfriend and you didn’t say anything,” John said.

After throwing the blame back and forth, it was clear that the arrangement wasn’t going to work out anymore. So they stopped seeing each other completely.

Ghana’s health sector need urgent reforms – NHIA CEO

0

Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, Government COVID-19 team

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Dacosta Aboagye says there is an urgent need for health sector reforms in Ghana due to some hospitals refusing to accept NHIS cards.

According to him, there is a need to end illegal charges that some healthcare providers impose on patients.

Speaking on the JoyNews’ AM show on Friday, he stated “When you look at other jurisdictions, , they guarantee what we call… like what we do in the petroleum industry, the automatic price adjustment. But if you look at our act, our act stipulates that we should do a yearly review, but you see that that is not helping because it is not realistic.

“Because if we do a yearly review, it means when there is a spike in price, the pharmaceutical industry they will still be complaining. So, I believe that it is time for reforms.”

Dr Aboagye proposed the introduction of automatic price adjustments as a means to stabilise the pharmaceutical industry.

According to him, this measure would provide much-needed stability for the sector and ensure that pharmaceutical companies can operate with the assurance of fair prices.

“I am recommending a nationwide tariff review committee when prices go up. Depending on the economic situation, that committee would sit and review the tariff then we start to implement it.

“That would be one of the solutions to curbing these illegal charges, so at the end of the day, it could be that that is happening, but we also need to put our house in order to make sure that we are meeting them in such a way that they would have no right to be charging the patient,” he noted.

Another Popular Nollywood Actor Begs For Help Over Health Challenges |

Barely two weeks after comic actor John Okafor, popularly called Mr. Ibu publicly solicited prayers and financial assistance from Nigerians as he battles an ailment that has raised concerns about possible amputation of one of his legs, another veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor is suffering the same fate.

In a viral video yesterday, the veteran actor pleaded with Nigerians for help, revealing that he is grappling with paralysis, which has affected half of his left leg.

The 61-year-old actor could be seen in the video lying on a bed, appealing to his fans and colleagues for financial support.

He said the reason he did not publicly disclose his illness was because he didn’t know it would last this long.

His words: “I’m sick, this thing that is called stroke caught up with me, and from there they rushed me to the hospital. The first hospital they rushed me to was in Nnewi, where I spent some two months and I was referred to Teaching Hospital Nnewi and here I am.

“I was on a movie set with Emeka Ani, Patience Ozokwo, Rita Edochie, and Ebele Okaro. I was about to enter my car when I was struck with this problem and since then it has been getting worse. Right now, I can’t move, I can’t walk on my own. Half of my left leg is paralyzed, my left hand is not movable, so it is a problem for me.

“I’m calling on well-spirited individuals to come to my assistance, to see how they can help me. It is paralysis, half of my body.”

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, actor Agbogidi Clemson Cornell blamed the regular health challenges facing Nollywood actors on lack of rest and taking care of themselves.

He said due to the nature of the job, many of his colleagues hardly find time to rest and take care of their health challenges.

Recall that in 2016, there were claims that Amaechi Muonagor was suffering from diabetes. Since then, the actor hasn’t appeared or featured in any movie. There had been rumours about him leaving the movie industry.

Emissions levy: We’ll increase our fares accordingly

0

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has disclosed that it will increase transport fares following the imposition of the Emissions Levy which took effect on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

The Emissions Levy which is contained in the 2024 budget is in line with the government’s efforts aimed at tackling greenhouse gas emissions to promote the use of eco-friendly technology and green energy.

Industrial relations officer for GPRTU, Abass Imoro in an Eyewitness News interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM alleged that the relevant stakeholders including the Transport and Finance Minister ignored the concerns of members and went ahead to implement the levy without responding to their petition.

“We were not part of the discussions before they came out with it [the levy]. We spotted it in the budget and we raised issues with it, our suggestions were not taken and we petitioned Parliament and we have not had any response yet.

“We had a meeting with the Transport and Finance Ministers and said that there was something wrong with the levy that we felt was not proper and the Finance Minister promised to do something about it, only for us to hear that the levy has taken effect today [February 1].

“So we said that we have decided that when we try to draw the public’s attention and nothing is being done, the only way is to add it up and have to increase our fares.”

The levy amount to be paid is dependent on the type of vehicle and its engine capacity.

Motorcycles and tricycles are required to pay GH₵75 per annum, while motor vehicles, buses, and coaches up to 3000 cubic centimetres are required to pay GH₵150 per annum.

Motor vehicles, buses, and coaches above 3000 cubic centimetres, cargo trucks, and articulated trucks are required to pay GH₵300 per annum.

Chris Hughton sacked after Black Stars crash out of AFCON 2023 –

0

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties.

The decision was taken after the Black Stars crashed out of AFCON 2023 without a win in their three group games.

The GFA’s statement, published four hours after Ghana’s early exit from the tournament in Ivory Coast was confirmed, added that the technical team had also been dissolved.

The FA said it will, in the coming days, “provide a roadmap on the future of the Black Stars”

Hughton was appointed in February 2023, replacing Otto Addo whose contract with the men’s senior national team expired after the 2022 World Cup.

He was tasked with overseeing the remainder of  Ghana’s qualifiers for AFCON 2023, taking the team to the tournament in Ivory Coast, as well as supervising the start of the Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Prior to taking over as head coach, Hughton was named as the Technical Adviser of the Black Stars, ahead of the two-legged playoffs for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria, remaining in the role for the Qatar tournament.

Hughton oversaw 13 matches as Black Stars head coach, with a record of four wins, five draws and four losses.

In nine competitive matches, Hughton’s side picked up three wins, two losses and four draws.

The Black Stars’ performances under the former Brighton, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest manager have earned as much scrutiny as the results, culminating in the disappointing AFCON 2023 showing.

His selections and management of games have often been questioned by fans and pundits.

Following a loss in the opening match to Cape Verde and draws with Egypt and Mozambique, Ghana exited the AFCON for the second straight edition at the group stage.

Hughton accepted responsibility for the poor performances in the Ivory Coast.

“I take responsibility for this performance and admit my results with the Black Stars have not been good enough,” he told the media after Monday’s 2-2 draw with Mozambique.

The Black Stars will now have to regroup after the latest disappointment, with rumours of two international friendlies being planned for March against world champions Argentina and China.

They will then turn their attention back to the World Cup qualifiers which return in June, with matches against Mali and the Central African Republic.

Use COVID levy, road tolls to establish health emergency fund

0

The Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Justice Arthur is urging the government to rename and convert the COVID-19 levy into a fund that will allow it to deal with health emergency cases quickly.

He believes that when there are emergency cases, the levy collected into the Consolidated Fund becomes difficult to recoup.

Dr. Justice Arthur in an interview with Citi News called for the amendment of portions of the COVID-19 Levy Act 2021 to wean the levy off the Consolidated Fund.

“We always wait for emergencies before we look for funds, but if there is a fund that is always there that we access for emergencies, pandemics or even mass casualties, then there is something to fall on. So, we need a fund so that we can prepare and that funds can be used to procure ambulances, drugs and other items during emergencies so that we are not caught unawares”.

He also asked the government to consider using part of the reintroduced road tolls to set up health clinics near toll booths to deal with emergency cases from road crashes.

“Even the road tolls that we are bringing back, a portion can be used for these emergency spots along these major highways which are accident-prone, so these spots can provide first aid. When people see these things and see that it is being put to good use, I am sure they will be willing to pay”, he further added.

Splitting of Youth and Sports Ministry will help address youth challenges

0

By Benjamin Akoto

Sunyani, April 18, GNA – Nana Kofi Akantoa, the Amankorahene of Chiraa, in the Sunyani West Municipality, has lauded the idea of Mr John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, to split the Youth and Sports Ministry when re-elected.

He said it was time for leaders to strategically redefine Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to achieve targeted objectives that could move the country’s socio-economic development agenda forward.

The NDC Flagbearer, at an inaugural ceremony of a Youth Wing of the NDC, announced his intention to divide the Ministry of Youth and Sports when he again becomes president.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Nana Akantoa stated that the proposal should not be a mere talk and asked the party’s leadership to be eager to adopt it as a manifesto plank that aimed at addressing the challenges faced by youth in the country.

Nana Akantoa stated that the coupling of youth and sports outfits undoubtedly had created a significant disconnect from the multiplicity of issues affecting young people, adding that the youth issues in the country suggested that adolescent and youth development was often viewed through a narrow lens, primarily focusing on sports.

Nana Akantoa said both the Youth Employment Agency and the Ministry of Employment had failed in tackling the issue of youth unemployment since report by the Ghana Statistical Service on February 25, 2024, stated that the rate of unemployment among the youth had risen to 14.7 per cent, a significant increase from 5.11 percent reported in 2016.

He mentioned that one of the obstacles in addressing youth concerns was lack of systematic efforts to focus on the youth through deliberate policy interventions of establishing a specific Ministry dedicated to addressing issues faced by young people.

Nana Akantoa said findings from the 2021 Ghana Population and Housing Census indicated that the youth population in the country now accounted for approximately 40 per cent of the total population growing at an alarming rate.

He explained that due to the prevalence of youth in Africa’s populations political parties had been attempting to attract the youth vote by making promises that often amount to mere propaganda, since such promises were frequently made without actions to effectively address the concerns of the youth.

Nana Akantoa urged the younger generation to embrace Mr. Mahama’s intervention to effectively tackle the challenges of the youth in the nation.

Gov’t hasn’t been emotionally intelligent on National Cathedral, other initiatives

0

Global CEO of the HuD Group, Dr. Yaw Perbi attributed the brouhaha surrounding the construction of the National Cathedral project to government’s inability to galvanise the people.

He believes government would find it easier to implement most of its initiatives if only it could “intelligently” win Ghanaians over.

“The President has not shown great leadership in terms of casting leadership for this and galvanising the people.  Leadership they say is about influencing the people and so when you turn around, and you realize no one is following, you have to go back to the drawing table. People are not excited with the cathedral project, not even Christians.”

“This is an issue of competence and in terms of competence, government has not proven to be emotionally intelligent with its initiatives. There has been poor communication and governance. Aside from the National Cathedral, there have been others like the E-levy,” Dr. Perbi said on Citi FM/CitiTV‘s current affairs show The Big Issue.

The National Cathedral is a promise President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made to God ahead of the 2016 general elections.

Nana Akufo-Addo said he promised to build a national cathedral for God if he became president and pushed for the project after he was sworn into office in 2017.

He described the project as a “priority among priorities” but however said it will be funded by the Christian community.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in 2018 explained that: “The state is facilitating this process by providing the land, the Secretariat, and seed money for the preparatory phase. This National Cathedral partnership framework operationalizes, and indeed is a practical expression of the social partnership envisaged to foster participatory development of the country as our collective goal.”

Although the initial budget was pegged at $100 million, the amount has over the years ballooned to almost $400 million.

Government in June 2022 granted the release of GH¢25 million to the National Cathedral Secretariat as additional seed money for the construction of the project.

A letter, signed by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to the Controller and Accountant’s General, directed that the money be credited to Ribade Limited, for part payment of outstanding claims.

Naira Devaluation: “FG Printed Too Much Money”

0

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has decried the free fall of naira to other foreign currencies.

According to him, the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led government, printed too much money in circulation.

The Governor made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

However, Otti also stated that the nation’s economy needs to shift from consumption to manufacturing in order to revive it.

He criticized the situation in which Africa’s greatest economy imports almost every goods, maintaining that it puts a lot of pressure on the foreign market.

He said: “I believe that the major problem we have is financial discipline. We are dealing with an economy where we printed so much money, at the last count, we will be nearing N30 trillion.

“So what happens with ways and means is that the quantum of goods that you have available in an economy does not increase with the quantity of money that you print.”

“The issue of production versus consumption, if the economy must recover, we must move to production.

“That does not necessarily mean we will reduce consumption; what it means is that we will be consuming what we produce, to the extent that we are importing virtually everything. You keep piling pressure on the foreign exchange market.”

0

Tension is still brewing within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase constituency of the Ashanti region as the constituency chairman, Faisal Dauda is accusing the Member of Parliament, Muntaka Mubarak of allegedly hiring thugs to gun him down.

Over the years, the Asawase constituency has been described as one of the strongholds of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region.

In recent weeks, however, supposed friction between the member of Parliament for the area who doubles as the minority chief whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, and the NDC constituency chairman, Faisal Dauda has got many party members worried.

While many constituents have appealed to the two persons to smoke the peace pipe, it appears the tension between them is rather growing.

Speaking to journalists at a news conference in the Constituency, the Asawase NDC constituency chairman, Faisal Dauda accused the member of Parliament of planning to cause his death because of the misunderstanding between them.

“My life has been under threat since my days as the constituency treasurer. There was a time Honourable Muntaka, the constituency organizer, the constituency vice chairman, and the former constituency chairman had a meeting in his office at the Aboabo post office, the library premises and invited some bad boys and gave them a message that they should gun down the constituency deputy youth organizer and myself.”

Faisal Dauda also alleged that the minority chief whip is in bed with the incumbent government and has thus been scheming for the NDC to lose the 2024 polls.

“Everybody knows that honourable Muntaka has conspired against the NDC in Parliament and connived with the NPP. Everything going on in parliament indicates that Honourable Muntaka has connived with NPP so that John Mahama cannot become president, and he will continue serving his personal interest in parliament so that he will get what he wants as an individual”.

The Asawase NDC chairman has thus vowed to ensure someone contests against the MP in the party’s primaries.

“I did it solely for him in 2019, and he succeeded (in running unopposed in the primaries). This time around, he is not going to succeed. There will be a contest in Asawase”.

The Asawasi MP’s office has debunked the allegations levelled against him. The secretary of the MP, Abdul Haq is thus calling on the interior ministry and the Ghana Police Service to investigate the allegations being made.

“The news conference by the Asawase NDC chairman was nothing. It was just baseless allegations, bogus, and lacked merit. There is nothing to write home about. I would like to draw the attention of the interior minister, the IGP, and the Ghana Police Service, in general, to take him on”.

Speaking to Citi News, the secretary and aide to the Member of Parliament, Abdul Haq said they believe the recent controversies will not affect Mr. Muntaka Mubarak’s chances of winning the party’s upcoming primaries.

Mintah Akandoh calls for investigations into activities of Zipline

0

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee of Parliament, is advocating for an investigation into the operations of Zipline in Ghana.

Zipline is responsible for delivering medical supplies via drones in certain parts of the country.

Mr Akandoh said that though the government assured that the Zipline services would be funded by corporate bodies, a take or pay agreement between the state and Zipline which does not inure to the benefit of the country has been cited, with about GH¢70 million being committed to the Zipline service by the NHIA for this year.

He shared these concerns during a discussion on the proposed formula for the distribution of the health insurance fund in parliament on Wednesday.

“Mr Speaker, there is an agreement between the Ministry of Health and zipline. Zipline is the company carrying out this emergency medical supply service. Mr Speaker, I have absolutely nothing against anything that has to do with emergency medical supply services, but Mr Speaker I have everything against the provisions in the agreement.

“Mr Speaker, there are provisions that stipulate that whether we fly a drone or not Ghana must pay. And this is a take or pay clause. Mr Speaker the same company Zipline has an agreement with Nigeria, has an agreement with Rwanda, they have an agreement with Tanzania and in this agreement, there are no take and pay clauses in those agreement.”

“Mr Speaker this is inimical to the interest of Ghana and with immediate effect Mr Speaker, if we are going to commit the state resources, we must amend these provisions in the agreement with immediate effect. Mr Speaker, not only must we amend those provisions, I think that there’s a need for us to start probing into the activities of zipline,” he stated.

La Liga make decision on Jude Bellingham punishment for Mason Greenwood clash –

0

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham will not face punishment for allegedly insulting Getafe forward Mason Greenwood.

Bellingham was accused of calling Greenwood a ‘rapist’ during Madrid’s 2-0 win at Getafe at the start of February.

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour by Greater Manchester Police in 2022. These charges were dropped in 2023 due to the withdrawal of key evidence, though this has frequently and erroneously been reported in Spain as Greenwood having been cleared of wrongdoing.

Getafe made a complaint over Bellingham’s comment, which was caught on camera, to La Liga, with lip-reading experts being consulted on the matter.

Lip-readers could not determine what Bellingham said / Mateo Villalba/GettyImages

However, MARCA report that it was not possible to determine whether Bellingham said ‘rapist’ or ‘rubbish’ and so he will not face any punishment. There had been calls for the England international to face a multi-match ban, though he has already been suspended for two matches in La Liga for his red card after Saturday’s controversial 2-2 draw with Valencia in which he had a last-minute winner ruled out.

This recent skirmish between Bellingham and Greenwood is not the first time the two have been in headlines together. Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas claimed back in September that Bellingham had convinced Greenwood to move to Spain and the two were friends, but he had to backtrack on this statement soon after.

“I said that Greenwood came to Getafe because he had spoken with Bellingham. They have clarified to me that that was not the case. I apologise,” Bordalas clarified.

Greenwood left Manchester United on loan last summer following public backlash over his potential reintegration into the first-team squad. He has recently been linked with a permanent move to Getafe as well as reigning La Liga champions Barcelona.

Govt to unveil presidential policy on football

0

President Akufo-Addo has proposed a return to scouting and grooming football talents at the district level to develop and improve Ghana’s football scene.

The president, in his State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, February 27, bemoaned Ghana’s poor performance at the just-ended 2023 AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire which he said has left the nation saddened.

“The recent AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire was probably the nadir of the performance of the Black Stars, and has left the nation saddened. However, I am quite certain that the young men and the technical handlers would, themselves, have wanted to make our nation proud, and I believe that the captain, Andre Dede Ayew, meant every word when he rendered heartfelt apologies on behalf of his team-mates to all Ghanaians for the team’s early exit.”

Ghana for the second time in a row, was knocked out of the group stage of the prestigious continental tournament.

The president in his address, proposed a return to grassroots football, and he hinted that a presidential policy on football would be unveiled to get Ghana back to its glory days.

“Mr Speaker, I believe it is time for us to take a long-term, far-sighted approach to correct what has gone wrong. It is time to return to scouting, grooming and developing talent at the district grassroots level under a Presidential Policy on Football that I intend to unveil.

“The school sports department of the Ministry of Education will work hand in hand with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration and synergy with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to build district, regional and national juvenile teams for both boys and girls.”

GOIL has undertaken a 10-kilometre walk in Accra as part of activities to celebrate Ghana’s 66th Independence Day.

It was on the theme: “Good Energy for a healthy Nation,” intended to draw awareness on the need to stay fit to meaningfully contribute to national development.

The walk, which was led by the Group CEO/MD of GOIL, Kwame Osei Prempeh, Board Chairman, Mr. Reginald Daniel Laryea, and GOIL’s Brand Ambassador, Prof. Azumah Nelson, was also attended by over 1,500 persons including management, staff, keep-fit clubs, and some corporate partners of GOIL.

The over two-hour walk began at the El-Wak Stadium after a brief aerobics exercise.

The enthusiastic participants trekked through the Aviation area, Airport Street, 37 Military Hospital road to Jubilee House and Christ the King School.

The last leg of the walk saw the team heading towards the DVLA head office before ending at the El-Wak Stadium.  A 15-minute aerobics exercise climaxed the well-attended event.

My first pay as a dancer was GH₵50 in 2017 – Champion Rolie –

0

Reflecting on his achievements as compared to the past, Champion Rolie explained that dancing has now attracted much attention and professional dancers, particularly himself are reaping benefits from their craft.

“Gone are the days that people didn’t respect dance…it started from somewhere and now

“Daning pays. Now I would say it does because when I started, my first pay was GH₵50 in 2017 but now by God’s Grace I have signed big contracts and so on my side with what I am seeing, I would say yes, it pays,” he stated.

ECG revenue mobilisation not IMF driven

0

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Samuel Dubik Mahama has refuted suggestions that the revenue mobilisation exercise is one of several conditionalities from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The ECG has embarked on a one-month-long revenue mobilisation exercise to recover some GH¢5.7 billion from individuals and firms who have failed to pay for power used.

A section of the public has suggested that the exercise is one of the conditions by the IMF to help Ghana meet the requirement for a $3 billion bailout.

But Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, April 20, Mr Dubik Mahama disclosed that the ECG had to embark on the exercise to retrieve monies owed them to help save the company financially.

“If someone says this is IMF driven, it is very sad. That means that you don’t want to applaud ECG, because we took our time, and suffered what we had to suffer to get to where we are now. The dashboard showed us where we were leaking, where we were bleeding and what the billing system is saying, and then we lost our moral high ground by sitting in the office and being owed GH¢5.7 billion”.

“So we said let’s all move out in one month and see if we can close the gap and see if we can make everybody happy. Through this exercise, one of the things that will happen is that we will be able to clean our books,” Mr Mahama told host Bernard Avle.

Meanwhile, Mr Mahama has revealed that ECG has been able to recoup over GH¢2 billion from its defaulting customers within the last few weeks.

Mr Mahama said he was hopeful his outfit will be able to collect more from defaulters by the end of the exercise this week.

“We have collected in excess of GH¢2 billion. That is less than half [of what we targeted], but we have one more week to go before I am able to give my figures. I will sit down, do an assessment and then see. Why are people not paying? We will disconnect and prosecute.”

GRA initiates auction for COCOBOD’s chemicals, fertilizers, and more –

0

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is grappling with a severe financial crisis, leading to the auction of its essential agro products crucial for the upcoming cocoa season. This predicament arises from COCOBOD’s failure to settle a substantial GH¢3.9 billion duty owed to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The auctioned goods, including agrochemicals, fertilizers, and implements, are integral for disease control, pest management, and overall yield enhancement in cocoa farming. The supply contracts, initially Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) to Tema, saw COCOBOD unable to meet payment obligations to suppliers, resulting in the abandonment of goods and their subsequent auction by Customs.

The exorbitant duty demands by GRA have made the products unaffordable for both suppliers and COCOBOD, posing significant threats to agronomic practices and potentially resulting in low cocoa yields, with broader implications for Ghana’s economy.

The financial plight of COCOBOD stems from the withdrawal of tax exemptions by the government in July 2023, necessitating the payment of import duty on all the board’s imports into the country. This move strained COCOBOD’s finances, leading to the abandonment of 73 containers of agro products at the port of Tema.

Efforts by COCOBOD’s management to reverse the tax exemption withdrawal have reportedly been acknowledged by the Ghanaian Parliament. However, the implementation timeline remains uncertain, leaving the fate of the auctioned goods in limbo.

To address financial challenges, COCOBOD recently extended an invitation to holders of its short-term debt securities to exchange them for longer-term debt securities. This restructuring effort reflects the broader financial struggles faced by the institution.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is reportedly supporting economic reform programs by the Akufo-Addo government to address COCOBOD’s losses. The successful implementation of these programs is crucial for the disbursement of the $3 billion IMF bailout, with the first installment of about $600 million already received.

Amid the financial turmoil, COCOBOD, through Calbank, announced the launch of a debt securities exchange program. This program invites holders of short-term debt securities (Cocoa Bills) to exchange them for longer-term debt securities (Bonds). COCOBOD’s financial challenges extend beyond the duty dispute, with reports indicating over-staffing and difficulties in paying for services rendered.

As stakeholders closely monitor these developments, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta recently announced a program to restructure COCOBOD’s debt. The unfolding situation underscores the delicate balance required to ensure the stability of Ghana’s crucial cocoa sector, urging stakeholders to carefully review the Exchange Program documents for further details and seek professional advice before making investment decisions.

18.2 Million Kenyans Benefit from Sh44B Hustler Loans – Ruto

0

President William Ruto said yesterday that the Hustler Fund has disbursed loans totaling Kes.43.7 billion (USD 280 million) since its rollout in November 2022.

Addressing the World Governments Summit in Dubai on Tuesday, Ruto emphasized the significance of the kitty in providing accessible credit and financial services to Kenyans. He highlighted that 18.2 million Kenyans had registered on the platform during the period under review.

“In an economy fueled by the informal sector, which accounts for over 70% of employment and contributes more than 75% to the GDP, our transformation agenda requires the urgent provision of affordable credit and financial inclusion to the majority.

He added, “The Hustler Fund has played a crucial role in achieving this goal, freeing millions from predatory lenders through a digital lending and savings platform powered by our telecommunications companies. Affordable credit has now become a regular feature in the day-to-day operations of our MSME sector. Currently, the Hustler Fund boasts 18.2 million customers and has disbursed USD 280 million in its inaugural year of operation.”

Ruto also restated his government’s commitment to advancing the digitization of its services, intending to complete a full transition to digital systems by the end of 2024.

“In the last one year, we increased the number of digitally accessible government services from 5% to over 80%. The goal is to make the government 100% digital by the end of this year,” Ruto said.

He also addressed climate change, emphasizing that Africa has the potential to emerge as a central hub for a green industrial revolution. He highlighted the idea that sustainable development can take place without compromising economic growth.

“Green industrialisation in Africa will simultaneously address unemployment, reduce inequality, and discourage migration while enhancing manufacturing efficiency and industrial sustainability,” he said.

“All it takes is an investment, which calls for a measure of boldness and intentionality, like that which channeled investments that turned the deserts of the Middle East and give us flourishing, futuristic centres like Dubai.”

BoG projects further easing in overall stance on corporate loans –

0

The Bank of Ghana is projecting a further easing in the overall stance on corporate loans in the first two months of 2024, driven by a net ease in the stance on all sub-categories.

According to its January 2024 Monetary Policy Report, credit demand by corporates is projected to be stronger in January and February 2024.

However, it is forecasting a rebound in demand for household loans in the first two months of 2024, in line with the expected increase in demand for mortgages and consumer credit.

It stated banks generally maintained a tight stance on loans to enterprises and households in December 2023 although they reported a net ease in the stance on enterprise loans during the December 2023 Credit Conditions Survey round, relative to the October 2023 survey round.

The net easing in the overall credit stance to enterprises was on the back of an eased stance on all sub-categories of corporate loans except loans to large enterprises.

The stance on loans to households tightened during the last two months of 2023 from a net tightened stance on consumer credit and other lending.

The Central Bank added that banks reported a further softening in the demand for loans by households in the last two months of 2023, driven by declines in demand for loans for house purchases as well as consumer credit and other lending.

The December 2023 survey round pointed to a net decline in the overall demand for credit by enterprises relative to the previous survey period. The net decline in enterprise demand for credit reflected largely the sharp decline in demand for loans by large enterprises during the last two months of 2023.

TUC demands thorough investigation into assault of female employee –

0

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for a thorough probe into the physical assault of a female employee by a manager at a Savings and Loans company in Nkawkaw, in the Eastern region.

This follows a viral video where a female employee was seen being physically attacked and assaulted by her colleague in an office.

The Ghana Police Service arrested Ayivor Elikplim on Tuesday, June 25, and arraigned him on Wednesday, June 26. The Nkawkaw District Court deferred sentencing to Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

TUC, in a statement dated Friday, June 28 condemned the attack, calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice for the victim.

The Union explained that the act violates fundamental principles of respect, dignity, and workplace safety, and contravenes ILO Convention 190, which aims to eliminate violence and harassment in the workplace.

GNAT, Reliable Stakeholders In Education Delivery | Education

0

Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) remain very reliable stakeholders in the delivery of quality education in the country.

Consequently, the association said its members would continue to partner the government in the education enterprise to ensure that the country produced the right human resources for national development.

GNAT said this in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Thomas Musah, in response to a statement by a Deputy Minister of Education, Gifty Twum-Ampofo, at the congregation of the Presbyterian College of Education last Saturday.

Mrs Twum-Ampofo, who was quoted as speaking on July 1, 2023, at the 175 Anniversary of the Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong Akwapim said teachers were to blame if the economy was not doing well and not the economists.

Her statement, which was widely captured in headlines as, “Blame teachers for Ghana’s economic woes, not Finance Minister”, in an attempt to explain the import of “gross tertiary enrolment ratio,” in national development.

Reaction
But in a reaction, GNAT said in its statement that “the attention of GNAT has been drawn to a headline of a statement purportedly made by the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Gifty Twum-Ampofo, and a Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, which was widely reported on electronic and social media,” the statement said.

“We find such diatribes and outbursts from people who have climbed higher and found the temperature cooler and not remaining there but finding cause to hold people for their failures and shortcomings as demonstrated by the deputy minister of education in an assemblage of eminent educationists not only caustic but wonder whether she understood and recognised who were to be honoured – past and present educationists,” it said.

Unconcerned
It said GNAT would not sit unconcerned for its teachers to be taken to the cleaners by people in positions of responsibility, adding that its members could not be made scapegoats or guinea pigs by governments for policies they hardly reflected on before implementing.

“Once again, we wish to reiterate that no educationist nor teachers sit in Cabinet where Ghana’s economy is discussed; the Finance Ministry is not headed by a teacher and we are not aware that an educationist or a teacher, for that matter, has ever been invited to make a presentation or deliver a paper on the country’s economic prospects or woes,” it said.

“Madam Twum- Ampofo must not make us believe that it is only a bad workman who quarrels with her/his tools, and in some instances, her/his outcomes,” it said.

As the campaign heats up, delegates of the NPP will be looking very closely at the potential candidates’ visions and track records, considering who is best suited to lead the party and secure victory in the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Bawumia’s political acumen has earned him significant contributions to the NPP’s victories in the 2016 and 2020 elections, making him a strong contender for the NPP Presidency.

His campaign tour aims to further his political ambitions and communicate his vision for the country to party delegates.

With Dr Bawumia’s move to the Eastern Region, it is expected that his campaign team will be working hard to ensure that he gains the required support from party delegates in the Region.

The battle for the NPP’s Presidential candidacy promises to be intense, as the party seeks to present a candidate with the best chance of winning the 2024 election.

Payroll Monitoring Saves Nation Over GH¢190m – 17 Institutions In Accra Waste GH¢36.11m In 5 Months |

0

The public sector wage bill has seen a significant reduction since the commencement of the Nationwide Payroll Monitoring exercise in April, this year, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has stated.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FWSC, Benjamin Arthur, at a press briefing in Accra yesterday disclosed that data from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) revealed that the total wage bill for just July and August reduced by over GH¢190 million.

He explained that the wage bill for July witnessed a six per cent reduction over that of June, resulting in a cost saving of GH¢178.36 million, while the bill reduced by one per cent in August over the previous month, also resulting in GH¢18.45 million savings.

Mr Arthur said the success had been largely through the public sensitisation when institutions started conducting their own assessments of the payrolls, paving the way for the FWSC to validate the public workers on the Single Spine Salary Structure.

However, he equally attributed part of the gains to the effective measures put in place by the CAGD to ensure that workers’ numbers were linked to their Ghana cards to help remove ghost names from the payroll.

Mr Arthur said the commission had conducted the initial monitoring exercise in 17 institutions in Accra with a staff strength of 5,759.

The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) had the highest number of employees of 1,751 with the Ghana Book Development Council having the least number of staff of 17.

Initial analysis of the exercise from the institutions provided evidence of a decline in their wage bill.

The CEO of FWSC disclosed that an analysis of the institutions’ payroll revealed that the wage bill had been reduced by an average of 1.2 per cent from April when the exercise began and had translated into money equivalent of GH¢36.11 million from April to August 2023.

The reduction was from anomalies detected at the institutions.

Explaining further, Mr Arthur said, for instance, “The wage bill increased to GH¢32.5 million in April 2023 and with the commencement of the payroll monitoring exercise, it declined to GH¢31.9 million”.

He said findings from eight institutions also found anomalies which could be rectified to save the country about GH¢252,188.38 per month.

Mr Arthur said the commission was yet to move to the bigger institutions and expressed the hope that the wage bill would significantly be reduced to enable the country to save more money for other developmental projects.

Anomalies detected

Touching on the anomalies, the CEO said FWSC had detected many cases of workers changing their ages to purportedly cheat the system.

“We found out that a number of people continue to change their dates of birth.

There are instances where an individual will be bearing about three to four dates of birth.

One on their payroll, another on their management data, one from the individual himself and other one from social security,” Mr Arthur stated.

He said, certainly, that caused an increase in the wage bill as staff who were supposed to go on retirement at an earlier date were maintained on the payroll for much longer periods than expected, thereby draining the coffers of the country and denying younger ones the opportunity to be employed.

Another anomaly, there were some persons with official accommodations and still taking accommodation allowance, others using official cars and still taking vehicle allowance, among others.

“Education and qualification fraud were also found, which inevitably caused increases to the wage bill through higher grades and salaries, which were not honestly earned by the identified workers as they did not merit to be placed on such levels,” he stated.

Mr Arthur added that some of the institutions had unapproved structures that were being used to unfairly place their staff at an advantage on the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP), resulting in higher salaries paid than what was negotiated.

The CEO commended the management of the institutions for their cooperation which had provided successful results so far.

Mr Arthur, however, called on them to delve deeper into the anomalies detected to save the country’s payroll from unearned salaries.

“As a matter of urgency, they are to take immediate steps to rectify all anomalies as indicated through the commission’s observation and findings before punitive measures were taken against them”.

Background

The payroll monitoring exercise which commenced in April, this year, is aimed at sanitising the Public Sector Payroll by identifying and expunging any existing fraud and anomalies on the payroll to ensure that only approved salaries and allowances were being paid to deserving beneficiaries.

A successful exercise was estimated to save the country an annual estimated 10 billion cedis from unearned salaries.

Stakeholders urged to rethink retail sector

0

The Managing Partner of Ishmael Yamson and Associates, Michael Harry Yamson says there is the pressing need to rethink the country’s retail sector to maximise its benefits.

He said that was because the sector had the power to transform the country’s industrial scene by making it better.

Mr Yamson was speaking at the Citi Business Festival Forum on “Retail ad Consumer Markets” on Citi TV in Accra on Tuesday.

“We have seen many roadblocks around growth including higher tariffs, higher taxes, more expensive supply chain costs. But the retail as a sector for me is something that deserves a rethink,” he stated.

Mr Yamson underscored that so much was spent in subsisting in the sector, stating that “As much as we see a lot of glamour in our retail sector, the fact remains that we spend largely to subsist. We have to understand that retail has the power to transform our industrial scene.”

The Managing Partner of Ishmael Yamson and Associates noted that a challenge the sector faced was with the low value-added products which put other similar foreign products above the local ones.

As such, he said it was imperative for such products to be looked at and worked on as a matter of urgency by all stakeholders.

“We have to be sober the minute we begin to talk about the need for us to progress as an economy. We need to be sober because half of the products going into retail has no value added to it then that is where we have to pay great attention.”

“There are very low value added things that we are doing and we have to understand that retail has the power to transform our industrial scene,” he stated.

My ‘Who cares’ song not directed to Bullet – Wendy Shay clarifies –

0

Afrobeats songstress Wendy Shay has cleared the air about a supposed ‘diss’ song to her manager and CEO of Ruff Town records, Bullet.

The artiste recently had a spat with Bullet over contract renewal and agreement causing a friction between both.

Wendy Shay for the past few weeks was not working with Ruff Town records and released a song ‘Who Cares’ at the time they had the disagreement.

The ‘African Money’ hitmaker released the song at the time of her dispute with Bullet.

In a post on Instagram earlier in June 2024, Bullet claimed that Wendy Shay’s ‘Who Cares’ song which she released while they were in dispute was directed towards him.

He said this while he was commending Sammy Flex for his ‘excellent’ job in managing Shatta Wale to highlight the challenges artiste’s managers experience in their field.

“I celebrate you Sammy Flex, you are my best manager of the year. Forget everybody and chop your money. Me sef dem drop diss dong give me but who cares,” he stated.

However, Wendy Shay has refuted this assertion by Bullet. In an interview with DJ Slim posted on YouTube on June 26, the artiste explained that the circumstances of their disagreement led to the composing of the song.

She further emphasized that although she was inspired by their dispute to write the song, it is not directed personally to Bullet.

“The situation inspired me to write the songs but it is not directed to Bullet. It’s not like I’m giving stray bullet to Bullet. It’s just that as a creative when you go through something you just take the emotions out of it and write something out if it…I understand why he feels that way though,” Wendy Shay explained.

Wendy Shay also disclosed that the disagreement with Bullet has now been resolved and she is back to working with Ruff Town records.

““Bullet and I had a problem but some elders stepped in, and the issue has been resolved. I am working with Bullet again. I am back together with Bullet,” she stated.

If Obi Loses, A Christian Southerner May Never Be President Again- Ayo Adebanjo

0

Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, says Nigeria’s survi is linked to the victory of the Labor Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi in the presidential election. Adebanjo said Thursday in Abuja after a meeting of the Southern Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), where Obi was endorsed. The Afenifere leader said the election of the LP candidate would show Nigeria’s emphasis on ethnic and religious inclusion.

“The battle has begun. We are at war, and the enemy is not sleeping at all. “They underestimated us in the past, but now they see what we are capable of,” said Adebanjo. “They make all sorts of devices to ensure that electricity stays in certain areas of the country, so they don’t even support their own candidates.”

“You are fighting for your freedom.” Don’t make fun of your freedom. Don’t be fooled. They don’t organize elections. We fight to get out of slavery and bondage.

“Even among the Igbo people, we all live in denial.” “Impunity is too great to want disgruntled people to leave the country.” The Obi phenomenon is not just a Labor Party problem. LP has become like Nadeco.

“You don’t want to leave the office. Let’s be frank here. It’s no joke that they want to kill the election. Prepare for a by-election. “Give everything you need.” Bend and break. If Obi can’t win, forget Nigeria. If we lose this election, no non-Christian, non-Northerner will have a chance to be president again. “Now they intend to vote for his Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, and to reject the Labor Party candidate.” “They want another northerner to succeed President Muhammad Buhari.” You have to prepare. “Keep in mind that Obi needs to be proclaimed president.” Whatever gets in the way of it, Nigeria should be forgotten.

No sensible Ghanaian will vote for Kennedy Agyapong – Afia Schwarzenegger

Kennedy Agyapong, a candidate for president, and his followers say Afia Schwarzenegger insults their intellect.

In the next NPP presidential primaries, the socialite who openly backs Vice President Bawumia has taken aim at the viral of her candidate.

Her primary focus was on targeting Kennedy Agyapong and his backers after Alan Kyerematen dropped out of the campaign.

Afia Schwarzenegger claims that she doesn’t have to campaign for Bawumia since Kennedy Agyapong won’t get the votes of any sane people.

She elaborated on how the representative from Assin Central constantly responds uncomfortably to situations, demonstrating that he lacks the emotional intelligence required to become president.

Afia Schwarzenegger thinks that Ghana needs a smart leader, not a man who brags online about beefing women.

CAMFED Ghana Supports 663,455 Girls

0

CAMFED Ghana officials with stakeholders

The National Director of CAMFED Ghana, Fairuza Safian, has revealed that about 663,455 girls have been supported with bursary since the beginning of CAMFED operations in Ghana.

According to her, about 18,980 comprising 16,436 at secondary level and 2,544 at primary level has received economic support adding that 35,894 enterprises have been supported since the beginning of CAMFED’s operations in Ghana.

Addressing participants at the 2023 National Annual General Meeting in Tamale, National Director of CAMFED Ghana, Fairuza Safian, indicated that CAMFED will continue to complement the efforts of government to expand access to quality education for all Ghanaian children.

“We will continue on the path we have been on these years and intensify our campaign to ensure that children in Ghana are provided with the resources for their education,” Mrs. Safian said.

The National Annual General Meeting provides a platform for CAMFED Ghana, its partners and champions (stakeholders) to dispassionately discuss critical issues around the chosen theme and also provide a unique opportunity for CAMFED Ghana to report on the major team and programmatic activities that have been undertaken in the year and to receive input from champions that will inform strategies and approaches for the ensuing year.

Mrs. Safian, stated that this year’s national AGM is being held at a time when CAMFED Ghana is at the threshold of another important phase of the organization – the implementation of a new strategic plan that would be implemented across the consortium beginning from January 2024.

“The new strategy builds on previous strategic plans that were implemented from 2015 to 2019 and 2020 to the end of this year. The 2015 to 2019 strategy focused on three strategic goals which were to unlock new resources for girls’ education, unleash new potential through young women’s leadership, and ignite new action to accelerate change.

Building on the successes and lessons from the plan, the 2020 plan had three strategic imperatives which are to anchor the strategy in the multiplier effect, scale-up the Learner Guide Program, and invest in enterprise development”.

Mrs. Safian disclosed that despite challenges, CAMFED Ghana has remained resilient and true to its clients, the girls and young women the organization works for and that CAMFED has kept its focus and delivered on its mandate.

“The challenges we faced, the successes we chalked, and the lessons we learned have given CAMFED the impetus to develop a new strategy that provides the blueprint and framework for the organization’s new strategic phase. CAMFED plans to triple its impact over 30 years during the six-year period.

The strategy represents a progression from CAMFED’s existing work and not a change of direction. The core components of CAMFED’s model therefore remain in place and are organized into three levels of work”.

The CAMFED Ghana National Director stated that over the next six years CAMFED will implement a comprehensive support system targeted at the most marginalized girls, enable young women to transition to secure livelihoods and join a powerful peer network of leaders, and drive adoption of best practices in national education systems at scale.

Ghana’s oil production declines for the third consecutive year

0

Ghana has for the third consecutive year seen a decline in crude oil production according to the 2022 Public Interest and Accountability Committee’s (PIAC) annual report.

71,439,585 barrels were produced in 2019 but declined to 66,926,806 barrels in 2020 representing a 6.32 percent drop.

It further declined to 55,050,391 barrels in 2021 (17.75%) and then to 51,756,481 barrels in 2022 (5.98%) an average decline over the three years of 10 percent.

Addressing members of IFEJ, PIAC media, and the Parliamentary Press Corp on the 2022 PIAC annual report in Keta, the Vice Chairman of PIAC Nasir Alfa Mohammed indicated that there is a need for Ghana to speed up the sustainable development of its Petroleum resources to reverse the decline in petroleum production through the attraction of new investors as well as early completion of ongoing projects.

“For three consecutive years, crude oil production has been declining for three consecutive years…So the average decline over the three-year period is 10 percent.

“Total petroleum for 2022 is the highest since the inception of petroleum production with a figure of 1.4 billion dollars,” Mr. Alfa said.

I am a person who loves to read quotes daily. It is one way that helps me to stay motivated. We all need to devise a strategy to keep ourselves motivated, particularly when we find ourselves at a crossroads in life. Crossroads in life are inevitable, the trick is to focus on future dreams and aspirations. Below are some of the words/quotes that I live by to help me keep going.

Quitters never win, and winners never quit.

Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today.

Life is a privilege and not a right.

Keep shining because diamonds are meant to sparkle.

When opportunity meets preparation, that is where success lies.

Have faith in the word of God because that’s where God lives.

If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.

Motivation is good, but consistency and discipline are more likely to get you there.

You are here today, mostly because of the decisions you have made. Think about the decisions you make today as that will determine your tomorrow.

You are unique, there is no one like you, celebrate yourself.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

So a man thinketh, so is he. Therefore, think only on good things.

Nobody ever gets anyway far by walking and looking down, keep your head up.

A journey of a thousand miles starts by taking the first step, so just take the first step.

I hope you find them useful.

Why I wasn’t worried when Ghanaians were calling for my resignation

0

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed his resilience amid calls for his resignation.

According to him, he was focused on solving the economic issues thus was not bothered about public pressure.

“With our work, you don’t expect everyone to love you, and I was focused on crossing the Jordan with the whole community. So if some people dislike you, it’s fine. Recently, the numbers show that we went through a very difficult patch and we have turned the corner. I am hopeful that God will lead us to the right way so that in the 2024 elections, we [NPP] shall prevail” Mr. Ofori-Atta said on Oyerepa TV.

He said his role as Finance Minister wouldn’t necessarily garner universal approval, understanding that not every Ghanaian would support him.

Despite facing heightened calls for his dismissal, Mr. Ofori-Atta remained committed to implementing strategies to overcome economic difficulties.

Reflecting on the prospects of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections, he expressed optimism, attributing his confidence to the economic progress achieved under the party’s leadership.

Mr. Ofori-Atta’s tenure faced scrutiny, with members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament petitioning President Akufo-Addo to remove him due to economic challenges.

However, it wasn’t until February 14, 2024, during a ministerial reshuffle that he was replaced by Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is the longest-serving Minance minister in the 4th Republic.

We’re committed to protecting depositors’ funds

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) says it will continue to closely monitor and regulate financial institutions in the country to ensure the stability and integrity of the banking sector.

Maintaining oversight in the banking industry according to the Central Bank is crucial for safeguarding against risks and promoting trust in the financial system.

Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison at the name change and gala dinner of FBN Bank Ghana Limited maintained that his outfit has not departed from protecting the funds of depositors.

“Let me note that, to protect depositors, while ensuring the stability and soundness of the banking system, the Bank of Ghana will continue to be vigilant to ensure that banks comply with regulatory requirements and guidelines to build trust and confidence in our financial institutions”.

He was quick to add that, the Bank of Ghana will not hesitate to crack the whip on institutions involved in regulatory breaches.

“As the regulator, the Bank of Ghana is fully committed to remain vigilant in its oversight operations of all financial institutions in Ghana. Notwithstanding this, Banks have continued to breach guidelines that have been set to ensure that our banking system remains safe and sound and free from all facets of financial crime including money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing, corruption, market manipulation, insider dealings and cybercrime.”

In the meantime, Banks have been encouraged to embrace the emergence of fintech in the financial ecosystem as a catalyst to deliver innovative financial products and services.

South Africa women qualify for Paris 2024 Olympic Games

0

South Africa’s women’s sevens team can look forward to their first-ever Olympics Games after winning the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens regional qualifying tournament in Tunisia.

Kenya pushed them all the way in the final in Monastir as they looked to book their place at a third Olympics having previously represented the region in Rio and Tokyo.

But the Lionesses came up just short, losing 12-7, and will now have to try their luck in the repechage – along with third place Uganda – in a bid to maintain their ever-present record.

Nadine Roos starred for South Africa throughout the two-day event, scoring nine tries and kicking 10 conversions including her side’s first try in the final.

South Africa breezed through day one with comfortable wins against Zimbabwe (26-0), Uganda (19-0) and Tunisia (27-7) with Roos contributing 37 of their points.

A Roos hat-trick on day two then helped the Springbok Women’s Sevens to beat Zambia 31-0 in the semi-final and set up a date with Kenya.

The Lionesses had kicked off their campaign with two big wins against Zambia and Ghana, scoring 68 points without reply, but nearly came unstuck against Madagascar in their final pool match, edging a tight contest 20-17.

Dennis Mwanja’s charges had a far easier ride in the semi-final, beating Uganda 27-0, and went into the final with real confidence.

However, Kenya found themselves 5-0 behind at half-time with Roos’ unconverted try the only thing separating the teams.

Sharon Auma then gave Kenya hope when she levelled the scores, Grace Okulu converting to send them into a 7-5 lead.

But Maria Thshiremba had the final say for South Africa when she scored from a set piece move, Roos adding the conversion to make it 12-7.

“A GREAT FEELING”

South Africa head coach Renfred Dazel said he was delighted for the players that they were able to create history and finally qualify for the Olympics.

“I feel so happy for the players who worked so hard to achieve this – we were denied in 2016 and 2020, but this time it is official, and it’s such a great feeling,” said Dazel.

“We knew Kenya was going to be a tough opponent and I told the players that defence will win us this one. We did really well in the first half, but could not convert all our pressure into points, so when they took the lead in the second half, we had to fight hard.

“But once again, like in the Challenger Series final, we had the fight in us for the win and it was a great comeback.”

The Springbok Women’s Sevens team earlier in the year secured core status on the revamped HSBC SVNS after winning the Challenger Series in Stellenbosch, and Dazel said qualifying for the Olympic Games will further boost their profile.

“It is huge for our system and it is huge for women’s rugby in the country overall,” he said.

“There will be more opportunities now for girls to come and play rugby, so winning this weekend was immense for the women’s game. The future looks bright.”

Investigate the cost of moving AMERI power plant to Kumasi – Abu Siddique to journalists –

0

A policy analyst, Siddique Abubakar Suleiman, has charged journalists to urgently launch investigations into the cost of transporting the AMERI plant from Takoradi to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

He is of the view that spending $36 million on the power plant is expensive and demands a probe in the spirit of accountability.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, commissioned the first phase of the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP), also known as AMERI, at Anwomaso in the Oforikrom Municipality.

It is emerging that the cost of relocating the power plant cost the taxpayer about $36 million. The amount has sparked controversies in the media and the opposition, raising questions about accountability.

Reacting to the development, Siddique argued that the plant was sent to Kumasi to attract voters for the NPP after “neglecting the people for too long” and stressed that the “deceit” would not work.

“I want to take the angle of votes. The Ashanti Region will pull a surprise for the NDC. Despite all the loans the government has taken, they could not procure a power plant for the Ashanti Region,” he told Oheneba on Battle Ground on Power FM.

Speaking on the cost of transporting the parts of the power plant, Siddique stated, “$36 million for moving a plant from Takoradi to Kumasi? They should show us how they paid the funds for the transportation of the power plant. This is pure thievery. Ghanaians should know that these people are stealing from us. These people do not deserve a change from us.”

“The journalists must investigate this amount… I think the NPP wants to take us for fools because this amount could have built schools. Do you know the number of schools this amount could have built?” he quizzed.

Touching on the hardship in the country, Siddique said, “Ghanaians should know that the NPP has taken us back 20 or 30 years.”

He also asked, “Does the $36 million include the installation of the power plant?” … I believe Bawumia’s hands are in this deal because I know he likes locations where there is money.”

IGP leaked tape committee cites Supt. Asare, Supt. Gyebi for contempt of Parliament

0

The ad-hoc Parliamentary committee which investigated the leaked tape over the plot by some senior police officers to remove the Inspector-General of Police from office has cited two of the officers who appeared before the committee for perjury.

The committee in its report presented to Parliament said the two officers Supt. George Lysander Asare and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi were found to have told lies in their responses to the committee.

“Supt. Gyebi during his testimony under oath, on 31st August, 2023 denied ever speaking to Chief Bugri Naabu directly on his phone or on the phone of Supt Asare. However, when he appeared before the Committee again on 10th October 2023, he changed his earlier testimony and affirmed that he indeed spoke to Chief Bugri Naabu on the phone.”

The Committee further said: “Supt. Asare also in answering a question under oath posed by Hon Petr Lanchene Toobu on 4th September, 2023 on whether he was present when Chief Bugri Naabu spoke to Supt Emmanuel Gyebi on phone, he responded in the negative. However, he changed his initial response to this question to the affirmative when he appeared before the Committee on 10th October 2023.

The committee therefore recommended that the two be given stiff punishment for their conduct.

“The Committee is of the view that Supt Asare and Supt Gyebi appeared to have acted in contempt of Parliament pursuant to Order 30 of the Standing Orders of Parliament (2000) as revised by Order 13 (1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament (2024).

“In this regard, the Committee is of the opinion that the matter be referred to the Privileges Committee for appropriate action”.

The three officers were heard on the leaked tape plotting the removal of the Inspector-General of Police with the former Northern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party Daniel Bugri Naabu.

Ablakwa demands tax clearance evidence for Rock City in SSNIT Hotels deal –

0

The North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has formally requested evidence of Rock City’s GRA Tax Clearance Certificate through the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Mr. Ablakwa contends that Rock City, which is attempting to purchase a 60% stake in four SSNIT Hotels, did not file their tax returns for 2021 and 2022, making it impossible for them to have a valid tax clearance certificate during the tender process.

Citing the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896) and SSNIT’s own Pre-Qualification Criteria, Mr. Ablakwa asserts that Rock City’s bid should have been disqualified. He is also seeking a copy of the full evaluation report and the minutes of all tender committee meetings.

In a Facebook post, the North Tongu MP emphasized his expectation that SSNIT complies with the RTI law and provides the requested information in the interest of transparency and accountability. This request is part of his constitutional mandate for parliamentary oversight.

Mr. Ablakwa is vocally opposing the sale of the 60% stake in the SSNIT Hotels to Rock City, owned by Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture.

He has described the transaction as state capture, organized a demonstration against it, and called on Ghanaians to resist the sale.

I will appoint ministers from opposition parties if…

Former Minister for Energy, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko

An aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyeremanten Agyarko, has expressed his view on the winner takes all politics system at play in Ghana.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Show, he said he would appoint ministers from opposition parties should they have the right criteria for the job.

Admitting that the decision will be a tough one, he indicated there will be a dialogue and consultation with his party’s leadership.

“I will appoint ministers from the opposition party with consultation and dialogue with my party’s leadership. Leadership is convincing people to go with certain decisions. It’s very tough being a leader but you don’t have to give up.

“When people oppose you there may be darker secrets that can be discovered through dialogue. With that, you’ll arrive at your destination.”

The former minister said that Ghana deserves a leader who has solutions for its biggest enemy, poverty.

He reiterated that the NPP as a party needs a grassroots person and unifier to help the members heal and resolve all issues.
