Mohammed Kudus to be disgraced at the AFCON; Jordan to be the star

0

Prophet Jedidiah Henry Kore, the Ghanaian pastor who predicted that the Black Stars would lose their first group game at the African Cup of Nations against Cape Verde has sparked reactions again following his latest prophecy about Mohammed Kudus.

The Man of God in a Facebook video admonished Ghanaians not to put their hopes in Kudus because he will underperform at the tournament.

“If Kudus plays in the AFCON matches, he will be disgraced. In the spiritual realm, I saw him chewing popcorn on the pitch, and you need to be a prophet to understand the things I am saying”.

He rather urged Ghanaians to fast and pray for Jordan Ayew as he will be the footballer in the Blackstars to excel in this tournament.

“Remember Jordan Ayew in prayer, this year God has put a big star on Jordan Ayew, the star is not Kudus.”, he said.

AFCON23 – How Ghanaian prophet gave the correct score for Blackstars’ match against Cape Verde

A video of Ghanaian prophet Rev. Jedidiah Henry Kore, popularly known as Fire Oja of the Zion Prayer Ministry International, is making waves on social media after he seemingly prophesied the outcome of the recent football match between the Black Stars of Ghana and Cape Verde.

In the video, Rev. Jedidiah accurately predicted the score and other crucial events of the game.

The prophet confidently declared that Cape Verde would score the first goal, followed by Ghana equalizing.

He then prophesied that the nation would experience heartbreak as Cape Verde would secure a victory with a last-minute goal.

Astonishingly, the final score of the match played out exactly as Rev. Jedidiah had foretold, with Cape Verde winning 2-1.

The viral video has ignited a spirited debate on social media, with opinions split between those who believe in prophetic accuracy and others who remain sceptical.

The accuracy of the prophecy has left some viewers in awe, attributing it to spiritual insight, while others dismiss it as a coincidence or a lucky guess.

Bunkpurugu MP laments decline in telecom industry –

0

Dr. Abed Bandim, the Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu, has given clear evidence of the overall decline in all aspects of the telecom industry in Ghana.

When he took his turn on the floor of P
parliament last week, Dr Bandim explained that the number of mobile network operators and exclusive broadband wireless operators have declined by half since the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration took office in 2017.

“Mr Speaker, under President John Mahama who they [NPP] called incompetent, he handed over six mobile network telecom operators.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there was Expresso in operation, we had MTN operating, we had Vodafone operating, we had a network call Glo operating, we have TiGo operating and we have Airtel operating- six of them under John Dramani Mahama.

“Today, Mr. Speaker I can report to you that they have collapsed the telcos. It’s only left with three telecoms. Even with the three, one is limping because Airtel couldn’t operate, TiGo, couldn’t operate and they have forced a merger. The Minister should come and give this House a briefing. The Minister has failed to appear before us and brief us about the merger of AirtelTiGo. As we speak, we don’t know how much government spent to ensure that AirtelTiGo is in operation,” he explained.

Dr Bandim also spoke about the troubles with Vodafone, a company in which the Ghanaian government have 30 percent shares.

“Mr. Speaker, I can also report that Vodafone is limping. They [the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration] have offered Vodafone to Telecel.

“Telecel is making losses in countries such as Chad, Gibraltar, DR Congo and Gabon where they are operating. It is therefore shocking that Vodafone should be sold to them.

“In 2008 when the Kufuor administration was selling Ghana Telecom to Vodafone, the issue of profitability and efficiency dominated public discourse.

“At the time, Vodafone, Telkom South Africa and other worthy competitors operating profitably lobbied stakeholders openly about their offer. Sadly, today, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration is selling Ghana’s remaining 30 percent shares in Vodafone in secret – without public debate,” he added.

On the issue of broadband wireless application, Dr Bandim had this to say:

“In 2015/2016, we had also six broadband wireless application companies. For the avoidance of doubt, we had Broadband Home, we had Surfline. Surfline operated in Tema and Accra. Today you don’t hear about Surfline. There was a broadband wireless application called Goldkey, they have gone under. We had a broadband company called Busy Internet, they have also gone under.
Comsys, they have gone under.”

The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, presented the 2024 budget to parliament on November 15, 2023.

Airbus scandal: I love Mahama

0

Ghana Gas

Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has said his petition for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to probe the Airbus Scandal is borne out of love for former President John Mahama.

Mr Bempah has indicated it will offer the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer an opportunity to clear himself.

The outspoken politician who made these remarks on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme said he is Mr Mahama’s first son in politics.

“Mahama is my good friend, and I love him. I am not doing this out of hatred, but because I want him to come out and address this issue. As a presidential candidate, his integrity is at stake and he must be ready for probity and accountability, which are the principles the NDC was founded on,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo brought up the Airbus scandal in September 2023 in response to allegations by Mr Mahama that the former had appointed politically affiliated judges to the judiciary.

This was during his speech at the opening of the 2023 Ghana Bar Conference in Cape Coast.

Subsequently, Mr Bempah petitioned the OSP to prioritise the investigation to provide closure for the Ghanaian public.

As the lead convenor of the #Fixing Ghana Movement, the group has set November 16, 2023, for a planned picketing at the OSP’s office.

The group, on the same day, will march to Mr Mahama’s office in Cantonments to present a copy of the OSP’s petition to him, stating they expect the latter to receive the petition himself.

“We won’t mind spending 10 days at his office until he comes to take the petition,” he declared.

The Airbus scandal is one of many cases former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu was investigating.

Mr Mahama, and his brother, Samuel Mahama, were cited by Mr Amidu as subjects of this inquiry.

With pressure mounting for finality to be brought on the case, his successor, Kissi Agyebeng, says he is seeking the assistance of Interpol on this matter.

National Elections: Security Task Force ready – IGP

0

By Morkporkpor Anku

Accra, Dec. 5, GNA – Dr George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector General of Police (IGP), says the National Elections Security Task Force is firming up security arrangements for the upcoming District and National Elections.

The 2023 District Level Elections (DLE), barring any last-minute hitches, will be held on December 19, 2023, allowing eligible voters to elect Assembly Members to represent their respective electoral areas in the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as five Unit Committee Members for each electoral area.

The IGP said the upcoming district-level elections was crucial, such that there was the need to consult the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons, Ghana Fire Service, and other relevant security agencies to ensure security at all levels.

Dr Dampare said this during a National Elections Security Task Force meeting held in Accra on Tuesday.

The meeting saw various security agencies represented, where they all expressed readiness for the DLE, which would also serve as a “dress rehearsal” for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

The IGP said the task force had become an integral part of the election processes and democratic practices.

He said the Police Service with all the relevant security agencies had decided not to take anything for granted, assuring Ghanaians of peaceful elections at both the District and National levels.

“We have only one Ghana, and we will sit collectively as professionals and as patriotic citizens to do whatever it takes to continue to let peace reign, and we will not compromise on this,” the IGP added.

Mrs Jean Mensah, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, said the quest for power in current times had become fierce, adding that nobody or nothing would be spared in the quest to attain that power.

“Indeed, in a bid to capture power, our politicians and their supporters use all manner of methods to achieve their goals, in the wake of this, our security and safety are not spared, hence the need for security,” she stated.

She said one major challenge faced during elections was the abuse of social media to disseminate fake news around elections by “faceless individuals” for the sole purpose of causing disaffection for institutions such as the Commission in promoting unrest.

The Chairperson said the Commission was confident that the Cyber Security wing of the Police would be up to task and would deal with those situations timely.

“We trust that in their effort to do this, those behind the spread of fake news will be brought to the books and dealt with,” she said.

Mrs Mensah said the Commission looked forward to working closely with the Task Force and key stakeholders to ensure that elections in Ghana, particularly the upcoming district assembly election and the national elections were credible, transparent, and peaceful.

Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of Defence Staff, said from all indications, next year’s national elections would be a crucial one, and that as custodians of national security, the Armed Forces was ready to ensure peaceful elections as always done.

The Chief of Defence Staff said the Armed Forces was committed to their Constitutional mandate and duty to protect the country and prevent any aggression both internally and externally.

“For the elections, we may not be in the upfront of the election duties, but we will be strongly in the background, ever ready and ever prepared to support the Police Service and other Security Services…,” he added.

“Opinionated people” – Ubi Franklin slams Netizens calling him a clout chaser over his tattoo in honour of Ifeanyi Adeleke

0

Music executive Ubi Franklin has responded to the backlash from Netizens after he inked a tattoo for the first time.

Kemi Filani reported that Ubi got his first tattoo on 13th January in honour of music star, Davido’s late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

The talent manager took to his Instagram stories to share a picture of the tattoo with Ifeanyi Adeleke’s nickname ‘Popsicles’, and a dove bird which signifies ‘Rest in Peace’. Sharing it, he indicated Ifeanyi’s death date.

Netizens tag Ubi Franklin ‘clout chaser’

Netizens took to different social media platforms to tag Ubi Frankling as a clout chaser for getting a tattoo of Ifeanyi Adeleke’s nickname ‘Popsicles’,

While some said he was doing the unnecessary to gain favour from the parents of the deceased, others slammed him for neglecting his four children’s names while opting for someone else’s child’s nickname.

Reacting to the backlash, Ubi slammed Netizens and said that they are opinionated. He noted that he doesn’t care how anyone feels about how he wants to live his life.

Taking a swipe about genuine love, he noted that Netizens are insincere about showing real love, when they see one, they call it clout.

He wrote: “Opinionated people: they have little awareness of how they’re coming off or how others are emotionally reacting to them. Often they have the best of intentions to help whomever they’re speaking to and can’t understand why the other person isn’t happy to hear what they have to say. Keep your opinions to yourself, I don’t care how anyone feels about how I have decided to live my life. Just focus on you and leave I and those I have decided to love out.

“Because we are very pretentious about showing real love when we see real love we call it clout”.

Davido and Chioma get tattoos of each other’s name

One would wonder what prompted Ubi Franklin’s tattoo. Well, the father of four is definitely following the trend of his close associate.

Kemi Filani reported hours ago that Davido and Chioma who have been living a low-key lifestyle tattooed their names on each other’s ring finger.

Ubi Franklin and the couple got their tattoos from the same tattooist.

Free SHS Bill: Lack of stakeholder consultation unfortunate

0

The Minority in Parliament has expressed disappointment over the perceived lack of extensive stakeholder consultation and input on the impending Free Senior High School (SHS) Bill.

The Free SHS Bill, 2024, is slated for a Cabinet debate this week. The bill, currently being drafted by the Ministry of Education (MoE), seeks to provide legal support to the provision of free and compulsory education at the senior high school (SHS) level.

Last Friday, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, shared that the bill would also propose the separation of junior high school (JHS) from basic school and integrate it into secondary school, thereby extending secondary education to six years.

Another proposal of the bill, as shared by the minister, was the removal of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) as a prerequisite for gaining admission to the secondary level. Instead, it would be utilized for school selection purposes.

Education think tank, Africa Education Watch, has indicated that it has not been consulted on the bill.

In an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, Dr Clement Apaak, deputy Ranking Member, of Parliament’s Education Committee indicated that it was unfortunate that there had not been any stakeholder consultation on the bill for inputs to be made.

“It is unfortunate that such a bill has not been subjected to rigorous stakeholder consultation and inputs. I think that is most unfortunate even as we wait to see the bill and examine its content in full so that we can see whether it meets the requirement that we all expected or not,” he stated.

They would rather use the IMF loans to sponsor their Legon sidechicks than promote the lives of Ghanaians

– –

The General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has cautioned government officials against using parts of the IMF money to fund the lavish lifestyle of their mistresses or girlfriends.

The funds are also expected to be used for budget support and help bring down inflation, according to Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta.

However, Prophet Oduro, who seemingly does not trust that the monies will be used for its appropriate course, has warned government officials against extending some of it to their girlfriends.

– –

“None of the monies you’ve received should land in the pocket of your mistresses/girlfriends, because she doesn’t work for Ghana.

“You’ll see a Legon girl with Goil coupons worth GHC40,000. Their girlfriends are driving range rovers, Land Cruisers, Bentleys and flying up and down in our face,” he stated while addressing his congregants during a sermon.

Prophet Oduro further maintained that the IMF has to some extent, lost trust that the government puts the loans they usually receive to good use, hence their decision to split the payment of the funds over a 3-year-period.

Instead of IMF to give us the money at once, now they can’t trust us so they are splitting the money in three years. 6 months, 600 million for three years. Why? Because you are not trusted. Now they want to see whether you are working with the money. They want to check the projects.

“Ghana is a disgrace. Many years ago, Akufo-Addo was in Amasaman to cut sod for affordable housing, now it’s been four years and not even one brick has been spotted on the site, so if I tell you to be careful with the loan you currently have, I haven’t said anything wrong,” he added.

Jimin of K-pop supergroup BTS has become the first South Korean solo artist to top the US songs chart with his hit, Like Crazy.

The sultry slow jam made its debut this week in the number one spot of the Billboard Hot 100 list, which is based on sales, streaming and radio airplay.

The 27-year-old celebrated the record on Instagram, sharing the chart with his 49 million followers.

BTS was the first South Korean act to top the Billboards charts in 2020.

Jimin of BTS rules the US pop charts

The tremendously popular boyband announced a hiatus last year to rest and pursue solo projects. Members are also completing their military service.

Jimin’s success with Like Crazy reflects the group’s sustained fandom worldwide, industry watchers say.

BTS have been the torchbearers of K-Pop music in the US, with six number one hits, including Dynamite and Butter.

The septet, composed of members Jimin, RM, Jungkook, Jin, Suga, J-Hope and V, were the world’s second best-selling artist last year, behind Taylor Swift, according to industry tracker IFPI.

They were the number one selling artist the prior year when they released a major album.

Harry Kane’s Record-Breaking Celebration: The Emotional Moment with His Family.

0

Harry Kane, one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers, recently celebrated a major milestone in his career: becoming Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time goal scorer. The Englishman surpassed Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 goals for the North London club.

To mark the occasion, Kane celebrated with his family in a heartwarming moment captured on social media. In a video and pictures posted by his wife, Kate, the couple’s three children could be seen cheering on their father as he lifted a framed shirt bearing the number 267, signifying his new record.

Kane’s achievement is a testament to his dedication and talent, having been a consistent performer for Tottenham over the past decade. The 29-year-old joined the club’s academy at the age of 11 and made his senior debut in 2011. Since then, he has gone on to score 268 Premier League goals, won two Golden Boot awards, and helped Tottenham reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2019.

In an interview with Tottenham’s official website, Kane spoke of his pride in achieving the record and his gratitude towards the club and its fans. He said, “To beat someone like Jimmy Greaves is incredible. It’s a special moment for me and my family, but it’s also a special moment for everyone involved with the club.”

Kane’s achievement has been celebrated by fans and pundits alike, with many hailing him as one of the best strikers in the Premier League’s history. Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, who gave Kane his senior debut, said, “He’s been incredible for Tottenham. He’s been their main man for years now, and it’s fantastic to see him break such a big record.”

As Kane continues to lead the line for Tottenham and England, it is clear that his career is far from over. He has already scored 22 goals in all competitions this season, and his hunger for success remains as strong as ever.

In a season that has seen Tottenham struggle for consistency, Kane’s record-breaking achievement is a bright spot for the club and its fans. And with his family by his side, the striker has every reason to celebrate his success and look forward to even greater achievements in the future.

Gross reserves not accurate — Economist –

0

An Economics Lecturer, Prof. John Gatsi says it is erroneous to consistently announce the international reserves of the country in gross figures as that does not give a true state of the country’s import cover.

Instead, he suggested that the preferred figure for public consumption should be the net international reserves to reflect the country’s international reserves.

Prof. Gatsi explained that with the country still not servicing its external debts on account of its debt treatment exercise, a true picture of the reserves covering its import cover should be the net international reserves of the country to sit within the contest of the prevailing economic challenges.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) had indicated at the last Monetary Policy Committee presser last week that Ghana’s Gross international reserves “position remained strong.”

It reported that at the end of April 2024, the stock of gross international reserves increased to US$6.59 billion representing 3.0 months of import cover, compared with US$5.91 billion (2.7 months of import cover) at end-December 2023.

Gross International Reserves (excluding encumbered and petroleum assets) also increased to US$4.32 billion, compared with US$3.66 billion at end-December 2023.

Meanwhile, the Graphic Business has observed that, BoG captures the country’s net international reserves in the Summary of Economic and Financial Charts under External Developments.

For instance in the period under review, the country’s Net International Reserves for the month of April this year, stood at $3.99 billion weeks of import cover.

However, unlike a specific graph used to depict the import cover for the Gross International Reserves, that for the net was not captured.

“This is nothing to celebrate,” Prof Gatsi said and added that “what the public needs to be told should be the net reserves which is alarming”.

According to him, over the years, the country’s gross international reserves had ranged between three months and three-and-half months and noted that the latest development was nothing to be proud of particularly at a time when the country was not servicing its debts.

Strong buffers

The Economics professor stressed the need for the government to aggressively build up strong buffers to enable it to service its debts when the time was due.

He mentioned buffers established through funds such as the Sinking Fund, which was set up to manage the orderly redemption of Eurobonds and other debt instruments.

The Contingency Fund was also created to allow government to cope with any unforeseen scenarios or emergencies that it may run into at any point in time.

“I cannot tell for now if that is being done but I want to strongly advise that we need to build those funds aggressively in our own interest”, he advised.

Moratorium

In view of the many economic challenges the country was confronted with, it announced in December of 2022 that in the interim, it had some emergency measures necessary to prevent a further deterioration in the economic, financial, and social situation in Ghana.

It said in a statement posted on the Ministry of Finance website that as it stands, the country’s financial resources, including the Bank of Ghana’s international reserves, were limited and needed to be preserved at this critical juncture.

As a result it sought a suspension of all debt service payments under certain categories of its external debt, pending an orderly restructuring of the affected obligations.

This suspension included the payments on: “our Eurobonds; our commercial term loans; and on most of our bilateral debt.

This suspension will not include the payments of our multilateral debt, new debts (whether multilateral or otherwise) contracted after 19th December 2022 or debts related to certain short term trade facilities.

We are also evaluating certain specific debts related to projects with the highest socio-economic impact for Ghana which may have to be excluded.

This suspension is an interim emergency measure pending future agreements with all relevant creditors,” the statement added.

The processes leading to its finalisation has taken longer and also been more difficult and complicated than expected, raising concerns by analysts as to whether there are any measures being taken by the government to adequately build its buffers to enable it to easily offset the debts as the period for repayment fast beckons.

Other developments

Meanwhile the BoG has reported that on the international commodities market, prices of Ghana’s major exports (cocoa, gold, and crude oil), recorded gains in April 2024.

Cocoa prices continued to increase, reaching US$10,116.9 per tonne in April 2024, from US$4,235.60 per tonne in December 2023, representing a year-to-date gain of 138.9 %. Crude oil prices increased by 15.2 per cent on a year-to-date basis to US$89.00 per barrel in April, compared to US$77.26 per barrel in December 2023.

Gold prices also increased by 14.7 % at the beginning of the year to US$2,334.2 per fine ounce.

Lower surplus

The balance of trade recorded a lower surplus of US$744.3 million for the first four months of the year, compared to a surplus of US$1.39 billion in the corresponding period of last year.

Total exports increased by 4.9 % to US$5.83 billion driven mainly by significant growth in gold exports and a modest increase in crude oil exports.

Earnings from gold exports increased by 37.0% to US$2.97 billion, due to higher volumes of exports from small-scale gold production.

The value of crude oil exports, in comparison, increased by 9.4 % to US$1.27 billion, on the back of both volume and price increases.

Exports of cocoa, both beans and products, dropped by 49.0 % to US$599.3 million. Other exports, including non-traditional exports, also decreased by 6.0 % to US$981.8 million.

Total imports increased by 22.2 per cent to US$5.08 billion, driven mainly by non-oil imports which went up by 31.2 % to US$3.53 billion, while oil imports increased by 5.6 % to US$1.55 billion.

Provisional data for the first quarter of the year resulted in a current account surplus of US$372.12 million.

This represented a 40.8 % decline from the surplus of US$629.01 million recorded in the first quarter of 2023.

The lower surplus was driven mainly by higher imports, and increased income payments.

Net income payment was US$727 million for the first quarter of 2024, compared to net income payment of US$508 million in 2023.

Remittances inflow increased sharply to US$1.44 billion, compared with net inflows of US$980 million over the same comparative period.

Remove Taxes On Dialysis Consumables To Make Treatment Affordable – Grace Ayensu-Danquah | Health

0

A humanitarian surgeon and the Medical Director of the Sage Medical Center, Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has appealed to the government to remove taxes on consumables used for dialysis to help institutions offering the treatment to reduce prices for patients.

The double boarded-certified surgeon, whose facility is a foremost dialysis center in the country, said taxes on consumables such as dialyser, introducer needle, arteriovenous fistula needle, blood tubing set and transducer protector, helped to increase the cost of treatment which was often passed on to patients through higher prices.

Speaking to the media on recent revelations on the rising cost of dialysis in the country, Dr Ayensu-Danquah, who is also a member of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Advisory Team for Vaccines and Biological products, described the development as unfortunate.

She empathized with the current plight of kidney failure patients but noted that one of the surest solutions was to remove tariffs on consumable imports so that more can be shipped into the country for the benefit of renal patients at an affordable price.

“The price of consumables is tied to the US dollar rate and any depreciation in the cedi means prices will increase, making it costly for facilities such as Sage to import.

“This does not only make it harder for existing facilities to operate but it denies other investors from setting up to make prices competitive for patients,” the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the Essikado-Ketan in the Western Region said.

NHIA

Dr Ayensu-Danquah also recommended that the National Health Insurance Scheme be made to cover dialysis procedures as well as the treatment for kidney patients in Ghana.

She said the scheme, which is operated by the National Health Insurance Authority, could allow patients to make part payment under a co-pay policy.

Contributions

In line with her medical philanthropy, Dr Ayensu-Danquah, who is also a Professor of Medicine at the Center for Global Surgery at the University of Utah in the United States and a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast Medical School, uses her charity works to provide free medical supplies and equipment to clinics and hospitals in rural areas.

Although a private hospital, the Sage Medical Centre at East Legon, opposite Ampomah Hotel, has a vision to bring affordable kidney care to the doorstep of all Ghanaians to help save lives.

Kidney failure prevalence

The PMC PubMed Central, estimates the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) – reduced function of the kidneys – to estimated to be between 10 per cent and 13 per cent globally and 13.9 per cent in sub-Saharan Africa.
In Ghana, CKD prevalence has been estimated at around 13.3 per cent.

For kidney patients, dialysis is a must to prolong live.

She is a gender, humanitarian Surgeon advocate, educationist, and philanthropist. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and a Medical Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. The double boarded-certified surgeon also holds a Masters degree in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.

Dr Ayensu-Danquah

Dr Ayensu-Danquah worked in private practice in the United States before relocating back to Ghana to help impact lives. She holds licenses to practice in California and Michigan and is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.

She is also a board member of Days for Girls International Ghana.

Upon her return to Ghana, she helped to establish the Sage Medical Center to help bring respite to kidney patients upon noticing the gap in dialysis care.

The center boosts of modern state-of-the-art medical facilities, with cutting edge technology and equipment that facilitate pin-point diagnostic accuracy as well as effective treatment and management of all kidney problems.

Elderly Ghanaian woman captured on CCTV stealing in a supermarket

– –

A jaw-dropping CCTV footage capturing the moment an elderly woman pulled off a smooth robbery operation in a supermarket in Ghana has surfaced on social media.

Circulated widely on Twitter, the clip shows a middle-aged woman clad in a black gown pacing to and fro in front of the mini-shopping store.

Presumedly, she was at the supermarket to buy some items but it seems she had her own motive for coming there – which is to steal.

After scouring her environment, she spotted her target and quickly moved into the perfect position to carry out her operation.

Within a split second, she had robbed a nurse of her purse just before she could step out of the supermarket after paying for her items.

Imported unhygienic diapers will be seized, disposed of – FDA –

0

The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has issued a reminder to manufacturers, importers, and distributors of baby diapers that baby diapers, popularly known as bale diapers, are not permitted into the country.

According to the FDA, the importation of unregistered, poor-quality, and unhygienically packaged baby diapers into the country will be seized and disposed of.

The authority said it has noted with great concern the continuing practice where disposable baby diapers are still imported into the country, either unhygienically packaged or hidden in bales of used clothing.

“Importers are strongly cautioned that this practice goes against the FDA Guideline for Registration of Medical Devices (Appendix II) and the Ghana Standard Authority’s specifications for single-use disposable baby diapers (GS 1166:2017). The public is to note that materials used for baby diapers are tested by the Authority during the product registration process,” a statement from the FDA warned.

It noted that “this ensures that any dyes, skin irritants, or toxins are absent so as not to cause harm to babies. In addition, handling bale diapers frequently repacked and relabeled under unsanitary conditions can cause germs to enter the genital region of a child, especially a girl child, further posing great danger to their health and well-being.

“Imported finished baby diapers should be registered before importation with an approved label and ready for sale. A finished registered baby diaper is a diaper that has been duly evaluated by the FDA and conforms with GS 1166:2017. All registered diapers imported into the country must be well packaged and properly sealed to protect the product from moisture, soiling, contamination, and damage during transportation, storage, and distribution throughout the product’s shelf life.”

The authority said it also allowed the importation of raw materials for the manufacture of baby diapers, but the importer should have a licensed facility for the manufacture of baby diapers.

“All facilities, both local and foreign, for the manufacture of baby diapers are subjected to Good Manufacturing Practice inspection. The relevant fees apply,” parts of the statement read.

The FDA commits to continuing to collaborate with the GRA (Customs Division) to ensure that disposable baby diapers on the market are safe and meet the required standards.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, gastronomy has emerged as a powerful means of cultural exchange. People from diverse backgrounds are eager to explore new flavours and culinary traditions, and Ghanaian Jollof rice has seized this opportunity to shine. With the right branding and exposure, it has the potential to not only tantalise taste-buds but also beckon travellers to Ghana’s shores.

The key to this transformation lies in branding and exposure. By crafting a compelling narrative around Ghanaian Jollof, emphasising its historical roots, cultural significance and the passion behind its preparation, the dish becomes more than just a meal – it becomes an experience. This narrative can be shared through a myriad of platforms, from visually enticing videos and social media campaigns to well-curated blog content that tells the story of each grain of rice and every aromatic spice.

The Essence of Branding Ghanaian Jollof

Branding Ghanaian Jollof is more than just marketing; it’s an opportunity to showcase the very essence of Ghana itself. This iconic dish embodies the warmth, diversity and inclusivity of a nation that welcomes the world with open arms. It’s a flavourful bridge that connects cultures, a symbol of Ghana’s rich history, and an invitation to savour the unique flavours of its culture and heritage.

At its core, branding Ghanaian Jollof is about storytelling. It’s about narrating the centuries-old history that shaped this dish, the cultural significance it holds and the passion that goes into every pot. It’s a story that needs to be shared globally to create a lasting impression.

Ghana’s Jollof rice has come a long way from being a cherished local gem to emerging as a dish with the potential to become a global icon. To transform it into a powerful brand that generates positive tourism attention, Ghana must follow a strategic roadmap:

  1. Culinary ambassadors: Identify and collaborate with renowned chefs and culinary influencers who can champion Ghanaian Jollof on the international stage. These ambassadors can create buzz, host culinary events and share their experiences, making the dish more appealing to a global audience.

Offer tourists the opportunity to learn how to prepare the dish, visit local markets for ingredients and dine in traditional settings. These experiences offer a tangible connection to the culture.
  4. Jollof festivals: Organise and promote annual Jollof festivals, not just within Ghana but also in major cities worldwide. Invite chefs, food critics and foodies from various countries to participate. These festivals can become a global stage for Ghana’s Jollof.
  5. Global Partnerships: Forge partnerships with international culinary organisations, food festivals and travel agencies to include Ghanaian Jollof in their offerings. This expands the brand’s reach and encourages travellers to explore Ghana.

Savouring the success

As Ghana embarks on this flavourful journey of branding and promoting its Jollof rice, it must remain faithful to its cultural roots and authenticity of the dish. By implementing these strategies effectively, Ghana’s Jollof has the potential to become more than just a culinary delight – it can evolve into a beacon that beckons the world to experience the warmth, diversity and inclusivity of Ghana’s culture and heritage.

So, as we look to the future, let us anticipate a time when Ghana’s Jollof is not just a well-loved dish but a global sensation drawing travellers, food enthusiasts and cultural explorers to the heart of West Africa. In today’s interconnected world, where information travels at the speed of light and consumer choices are influenced by powerful narratives, the role of marketing communication cannot be underestimated. This narrative should convey the essence of Ghanaian Jollof, its cultural significance and the passion that goes into its preparation.
  2. Establishing a distinct identity: Effective marketing communication can help Ghanaian Jollof stand out in the crowded culinary landscape. It should not be seen as just another rice dish but an iconic representation of Ghana’s rich heritage and warm hospitality. It’s about creating a brand identity that is instantly recognidable and unforgettable.
  3. Reaching a global audience: The power of marketing communication lies in its ability to transcend geographical boundaries. Through various channels such as social media, traditional advertising, content marketing and public relations, the message of Ghanaian Jollof can reach every corner of the globe. It can pique the interest of food enthusiasts, chefs, travellers and culinary influencers from diverse backgrounds.
  4. Educating and inspiring: Effective marketing communication should not only promote Ghanaian Jollof but also educate the global audience about its origins, ingredients and cultural significance. It should inspire them to not only taste the dish but embark on a culinary adventure to Ghana, where they can savour its authenticity and experience the nation’s vibrant culture.
  5. Fostering engagement: Interaction and engagement are key components of successful marketing communication. It’s not just about pushing a message; it’s about creating a two-way dialogue. Engaging with the audience, listening to their feedback and addressing their inquiries can foster a sense of connection and loyalty to the Ghanaian Jollof brand.
  6. Leveraging influencers: Collaborating with culinary influencers, celebrity chefs and food bloggers can amplify the reach of marketing communication. These influencers can provide authentic reviews, share their experiences and create a buzz that resonates with their followers, generating excitement around Ghanaian Jollof.
  7. Measuring and adapting: Effective marketing communication is data-driven. It involves tracking metrics, analysing consumer behaviour and adapting strategies accordingly. By closely monitoring the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, Ghana can fine-tune its approach to maximise impact.

In essence, effective marketing communication is the bridge that connects the rich tradition of Ghanaian Jollof with the world’s curious palates. It transforms a beloved local dish into a global culinary icon, inviting everyone to savour the unique flavours of Ghana’s culture and heritage. As this branding effort unfolds, the success of Ghanaian Jollof as a globally recognisable brand will depend significantly on the effectiveness of its marketing communication strategies.Top of FormBottom of Form

I pay the market women in my dance videos – Official Starter –

0

Dancer and content creator, Official Starter has disclosed that he compensates all of the market women he collaborates with for his viral dance videos.

He emphasized that it was imperative to pay the market women for their contributions because they sacrifice their various business schedules for his content.

Official Starter made this comment during a recent discussion at the Pulse Chat Session at the African Music Business Dialogue.

“Right now I am working with them so I have to pay them because they are not professional dancers, they are market women, and because they are not professional dancers, creating a choreography takes like 10 minutes with someone like Endurance, but with them, it might take like 2 to 3 hours.

“They have to leave whatever they are doing to join me, so I have to pay them; I’m wasting their time,” Official Starter said.

Official Starter expressed appreciation for the chance to work with market ladies and highlighted the challenges associated with working with the women who are not professional dancers.

“Working with them, I feel like I have to do more,” he said. “The people out there, some don’t even know me. My content is crossing borders. Getting to that part is crazy. Me working with mothers… You have to be calm. Working with 20 market women, you have to arrange them. It’s not easy,” he added.

Official Starter’s commitment to compensate the market women is an appreciation to their sacrifices and contributions towards his viral content.

Born Ernest Raja Nettey, Official Starter rose to fame with his catchy dance videos featuring market ladies in the city’s busy marketplaces.

MP Ordered to Pay Lobby Group Kes500,000 for Challenging LGBTQ Ruling

0

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma is mandated to pay a lobby group Kes500,000 for challenging the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing gays and lesbians to form an association.

In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court refused to overturn its earlier decision and ordered Kaluma to pay Eric Gitari, the former Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (NGLHRC).

The court found that Kaluma filed his review application too late, challenging the registration of the association recognizing the LGBTQ+ community in Kenya.

Five Supreme Court Judges, led by Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, rejected Kaluma’s plea to challenge the Deputy Registrar’s decision to assess the costs of the appeal he lost on September 12, 2023, which allowed the registration of the LGBTQ+ association.

The court ordered Kaluma to pay Gitari Kes.500,000 for the time wasted and expenses incurred during the hearing of his review suit. Additionally, Kaluma must pay Kes.200,000 for the cost of the appeal.

While dismissing Kaluma’s appeal, the judges criticized him for filing his application outside the stipulated timelines.

“Kaluma has not provided a good reason for not challenging the deputy Registrar’s ruling within the statutory timelines. He has also not met any of the conditions to convince this court to exercise its discretion in his favor,” the Supreme Court Judges ruled.

Kaluma’s Appeal To Supreme Court

MP Kaluma approached the apex court on January 10, 2024, arguing that he was not served with a ruling notice by the Deputy Registrar and only learned of the decision when Gitari’s lawyer texted him demanding Kes.500,000, after the statutory seven-day timeline for filing a reference to challenge the ruling had already lapsed on November 14, 2023.

Kaluma urged the apex court to grant him more time to challenge the deputy Registrar’s ruling, but his request was rejected.

Justices Mwilu, Njoki Ndung’u, Smokin Wanjala, William Ouko, and Mohamed Ibrahim found that Kaluma was not truthful, as court records revealed that he was served with the disputed ruling through his official email address on November 6, 2023, at 17:19 hours.

“We note that there have been numerous correspondences from the court to Kaluma via his email address. Notably, there was correspondence on September 12, 2023, and November 6, 2023,” stated the Judges.

The bench noted that since March 9, 2023, there was no indication that Kaluma’s email address had changed.

“There is no doubt in our minds that the email address in question belongs to the applicant. We conclude that Kaluma was indeed aware and was served with the impugned ruling,” the Supreme Court Judges said.

In September last year, the Supreme Court rejected Kaluma’s review application seeking to overturn its earlier decision that the NGLHRC must be allowed to register as a non-governmental organization (NGO), ruling that the application lacked merit and imposing costs.

Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, Osei Bonsu Amoah, has defended his choice to withdraw from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary scheduled for Saturday, January 27.

The Minister of State at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development explained that his decision is in the best interest of the party.

He asserted that he consulted with the party’s leadership before making such a significant decision in his political career.

“It is for the people to judge whether I will be missed or not, and I cannot say whether I will be missed or not. I have been in Parliament for four terms and have also served in the executive, gathering a lot of experience along the way. I am still active in the party. Furthermore, I withdrew for the national interest of the party and personal interest.”

In a letter addressed to the NPP on Friday, January 19, Mr OB Amoah expressed his decision not to pursue his ambition for another term in office and requested the party’s General Secretary to remove his name from the ballot paper for the upcoming election.

Tinubu’s Health: “Leadership Not About Ability To Lift Bag Of Cement, He’s Not Preparing For Olympics”

0

The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, on Friday, debunked rumour about his boss, President Bola Tinubu’s health, claiming that his principal is a man full of ideas.

Recall that Tinubu during the Democracy Day celebration last month, missed his steps, an incident which stirred reactions on the president’s health status to lead the country.

Reacting to uncertainties about the former Lagos state governor’s health, at a town hall meeting by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja, Shettima faulted comments about Tinubu’s health status.

He said: “We are not asking you not to question the eligibility of your president’s condition. But there is this mischievous vexation about the president’s health status.

“We are not preparing for the Olympics, but an institution that builds on the superiority of ideas.

“But I dare to put it to you. The hallmark of true leadership is not the ability to lift a bag of cement, but the capacity to come up with robust ideas to solve a nation’s problems. So, this is a man that we need to all rally around, we need to support.”

“Yes, our economy is going through turbulence but is it confined to Nigeria alone? Let’s take a broadband picture. Is any economy immune from the challenges of the times? So, I urge you to be fair to this poor man.”

“We have never had it so good in terms of leadership. The President means well for the nation and most importantly, imbued with the skill set to drive change and progress in this country,” Shettima said.

“I can tell you with all sense of confidence that the President we have now is a man of ideas who is robustly imbued with the capacity. Leadership is about competence.”

Dr. Nduom gifts first batch of students from his university $1,000 each on their graduation –

0

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the founder and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nduom School of Business and Technology (NSBT), fulfilled a promise to the first batch of students of the institution by granting each $1,000 upon their graduation.

During the school’s inaugural graduation and third matriculation ceremony at their Ayensudo campus, each of the initial eight students admitted to NSBT received the cash award over the weekend.

This gesture marked the graduation of NSBT’s first cohort of 25 students, with the admission of 90 new students.

Of the graduating class, comprising eight females and 17 males, two achieved first-class honours, 12 attained second-class upper, nine secured second-class lower, and two obtained third-class honours.

Originally intending to provide seed money for small business ventures while studying, Dr. Nduom explained that the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted this plan.

“Some of you graduates may recall that I made a promise to the first eight students who came here to start our institution. And that promise was to give you some money as capital to start a business while you are here on campus. That did not happen, so today after you receive your degree, each one of you, the eight students, will receive $1000 in cash,” he stated at the graduation ceremony.

Addressing the graduates, he urged them to invest the money wisely, emphasizing productive measures over transient pleasures.

“I don’t want you to use the money for drinking and eating, but to find productive measures to start a business or invest the money for the future,” he said.

Dr. Nduom reassured the graduates of the institute’s commitment to ensuring their successful employment and urged them to maintain close ties with the institution.

The Rector of NSBT, Rev. Prof. Daniel Adjepong Nyarko, highlighted the school’s efforts in forming partnerships with international universities, particularly in the USA.

A representative from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission encouraged graduates to apply their education towards solving societal problems and securing employment, emphasizing the versatility of their learned skills.

Inflation rate will fall below 9% within 2yrs under my Presidency – Duffuor

0

Former Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Duffuor has said that the rate of inflation will drop below 9 percent within two years of his presidency if he is elected as flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and later as president of Ghana in the 2024 general elections.

Currently, the inflation rate for March 2023 is 45 percent as announced by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on Wednesday, April 12.

But Dr Duffuor promised to bring it down after stating that he has a track record of manning the finances of the nation well.

The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana touted his credentials after indicating that when he was leaving the Finance Ministry as the sector Minister following his appointment by the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the debt of the country was GHS35 billion.

However, he said, it is currently GHS600 billion.

Addressing delegates of the NDC as part of his campaign to be elected flagbearer of the NDC, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana said “Ghana’s debt is currently about GHS600 billion when I was leaving the Finance Ministry it was only GHS35billion.”

“This is frightening,” he added

He added “When it comes to the economy, actions speak louder than words. My record speaks for itself and it is clear that I have the experience and vision to fix the economy within two years.

“With my leadership, we will create jobs, stabilize the economy, and ensure that our country’s development is on the right track. Inflation will drop further to below 9 per cent, within 31 months. Let’s work together towards a better future for all Ghanaians.”

Enough is enough – Sergio Manucho fumes at ungrateful musicians

0

Entertainment critic, Sergio Manucho, has lashed out at artistes who don’t give credit to the media after they become successful in their music careers.

Sergio’s comments were on the heels of a post by entertainment journalist, Kwame Dadzie on social media regarding the same issue on Wednesday.

In Kwame’s post, he pointed out his disgust for artistes who attribute their success only to their hard work and not giving any credit to the media for their input.

Speaking on Hitz Gallery with Dr. Pounds, Sergio Manucho elaborated on how some of these artistes praise foreign media platforms and chastise theirs.

“Do they share positive stories written by Adomonline and MyJoyOnline? They carry other foreign media platforms like they are the only ones promoting them. They don’t even share artworks you do for them for their interviews.

“What Kwame Dadzie wrote on social media has a lot of sense in it,” he said

Sergio Manucho therefore urged media people to speak up against musicians who don’t credit them for their successes.

“This is our job and we need to speak against ungrateful musicians. They are selfish too. How many artistes even called media people to say thank you for their support throughout last year during Christmas?” he quizzed.

“When their careers are dwindling, they will come out and say they don’t get support from the media,” he bemoaned.

Recently, Reggae Dancehall musician Jupitar, criticized the media claiming they don’t give him and some other artistes the needed support to push their craft.

Consequently, Jupitar came under severe backlash from several media people who felt otherwise, pointing out that he does not put much effort into pushing his career.

You won’t win 2024 elections by attacking LGBTQ community – Sister Derby tells Mahama –

0

Ghanaian singer and LGBTQ advocate, Sister Derby, has called out politicians for their “dishonest” and “insensitive” stance on LGBTQ rights.

In a recent social media post, she criticized politicians, including former president John Mahama, for using religion and culture to appeal to anti-LGBTQ sentiments while avoiding offence to queer acquaintances and business partners.

“Our politicians always choose their words carefully because they all have acquaintances and business partners who are queer so they would never say they are against LGBTQ people but they would rather say carefully that they are against marriage between persons of the same sex,” Sister Derby stated.

Sister Derby emphasized that politicians are sidestepping the crucial issues faced by the LGBTQ community in Ghana, such as discrimination, violence, and the denial of basic human rights.

She argued that politicians carefully choose their words to maintain a delicate balance, opting to express opposition to same-sex marriage rather than addressing the broader challenges confronting LGBTQ individuals.

Asserting that LGBTQ individuals in Ghana are not demanding marriage, which is not legally recognized in many countries, Sister Derby urged politicians to focus on respecting the basic human rights and dignity of the LGBTQ community.

“LGBTQ persons in Ghana NEVER asked for marriage. They only ask for basic human rights and to be left in peace.

“Politicians ride on the wave of homophobia and transphobia to get the masses who are brainwashed with religion to vote for them.”

She called on politicians to refrain from exploiting homophobia and transphobia to secure votes, emphasising that religion should not be weaponized against the rights of LGBTQ people.

Sister Derby, a vocal supporter of LGBTQ rights in Ghana, has actively engaged in campaigns and music projects to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of queer individuals.

A total of 72 people collapsed during the 67th Independence Parade at the Tamale Jubilee Park on Wednesday, March 6.

Those who collapsed included students, service personnel and soldiers, who are said to have suffered from severe dehydration from the harsh weather conditions that characterized the day.

The students and personnel stood in the scorching sun for hours and it is believed that might have resulted in their collapse.

Unstoppable Manchester United beat Leicester City as

0

Marcus Rashford has scored 24 goals for Manchester United so far this season – his most prolific for the club

Marcus Rashford scored twice to continue his hot streak and help Manchester United overcome Leicester in the Premier League.

Rashford is in the form of his career and is leading United’s resurgence, taking his tally to 24 for the season with goals in each half at Old Trafford.

Both efforts were clinical finishes, latching on to passes from Bruno Fernandes and Fred before bearing down on goal and coolly slotting past Danny Ward.

Substitute Jadon Sancho finished off a fine team move to seal all three points for Erik ten Hag’s side, but it could have been a very different story.

Leicester created the better chances when it was goalless and their failure to find a way past David de Gea proved extremely costly.

The Spaniard made a stunning reflex save to deny Harvey Barnes from close range and kept out Kelechi Iheanacho’s diving header with another superb stop.

Defeat ended Leicester’s three-game unbeaten run and an inconsistent season sees them remain in 14th place in the table.

South Sudan: Peace concert in Malakal attracts huge crowd, galvanizes audience

0

In Malakal, peace begins with some 1,500 revellers from all walks of life uniting for a flamboyant concert sprinkled with healthy doses of updates on the implementation of South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement, meant to culminate with free, fair, and credible elections in just over a year.

“We are hoping for just and peaceful elections all and I’m excited to witness what the future holds for our country. The information we received about what is going on was a real eye-opener for everyone to know what rights we have as citizens,” said Salwa Joseph, who had made her way to event for exactly that reason.

As proud Nuers, Dinkas, Komas, Mabans and Shilluks performed stirring traditional dances and the peacekeeping mission’s in-house band belted out crowd-pleasing tunes, dancing women, men and youth may occasionally have lost their focus on all things of a political nature.

Community leader Nyua Arop was, however, at hand on stage to remind the swaying masses of the critical times that lie ahead, not least the successful drafting of a permanent constitution, needed for elections to take place.

“Our peace, political process and constitution must be as inclusive as the crowd here to enjoy this occasion. Without the voices of women, for example, we can’t achieve stability in our state,” she boomed.

At an event organized by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) together with the Upper Nile State government, Governor James Odhok Oyai’s presence was a given.

“Our cooperation with the UN is a real boon, and today is a great opportunity to celebrate it together,” he greeted the audience. “Rest assured that we are all working hard, every day, to nurture peace and development.”

To further advance the understanding of this vital partnership, those present were given a lowdown of the peacekeeping mission’s mandate in the country, and a chance to ask any questions they wanted for clarifications.

“I am grateful for this colourful happening where we have been able to prove that we, despite belonging to different tribes, are united and can have fun together,” said Christina Gwang, one of the dancers showcasing her skills. “We are tired of war, it is our turn to enjoy peace now,” she added.

With peace in the country seemingly being a tad elusive, one would be forgiven for asking where it all begins. Fortunately, Alfred Orono Orono, Head of the UNMISS Field Office in Malakal, had the answer, addressing the joyous sea of humans from the stage.

“Each one of us is responsible for peace in South Sudan. Now I want all of you to stand up, touch your chest and repeat after me: ‘Peace begins with me, peace is within me’”.

And so they did.

The annual African Basketball Festival returns this December in style with expansion in participating countries and expected rich cultural display and music.

And beginning December 15 to 17, the festival features eight teams; an expansion  from last year’s four nations—France, USA, Ghana, and Nigeria.

The three-day jamboree introduces new contenders to the court, including the UK, Liberia, Togo, and an additional nation that will add to the pre-Christmas competition.

At its recent media briefing in Accra, Yaw Sakyi Afari, Project Lead of the Africa Basketball Festival, expressed optimism for the event’s growth.

Afari said, “Last year, we had an impressive display of talent, music, and art with four countries. This time, with eight nations, we aim to create an even more memorable experience for everyone.”

He added, “This year’s is certainly going to be a lifetime experience, and would surpass the excitement of the previous edition.”

In a captivating showdown, the University of Ghana will clash with Accra Technical University in an expected uncompromising duel as part of this year’s competition, promising basketball enthusiasts a high time treat.

And touching on the festival’s itinerary, he mentioned that the first day will witness the arrival of participating countries and an opening ceremony featuring all teams.

The second day is packed with thrilling games, while the final day will feature an e-sport competition, culminating in a face-off between the winner of Africa and the winner of the international games.

The 2023 Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) is powered by RITE Sports in collaboration with partners Beyond The Return Office and the Ghana Basketball Association.

Indications are that the festival guarantees an experience combining the love for basketball with the multiplicity of African culture.

“He Has Evidence” – Falana To Defend Seun Kuti Over Assault On Police Officer

0

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has revealed that Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, will report to the police on Monday, following the arrest warrant issued by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.

This comes after speculations that a team of police stormed Seun’s home at Allen Avenue on Sunday, but met his absence.

Speaking with The Punch on Sunday, Falana said the embattled singer sought his legal services following the assault on a police officer.

He also confirmed that the singer has enough evidence to defend himself and it was not the first time he is dealing with the police.

He said, “I am his lawyer and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.

“He is going to report himself to the police tomorrow morning. There is no problem at all.”

Recall that a viral video had shown the moment Kuti confronted the policeman after which he pushed and slapped him.

After the video of the assault went viral, Kuti took to his Instagram story to explain that the officer tried to “kill” him and his family.

The Inspector General of Police subsequently ordered the immediate arrest of the singer.

Akali Baba also ordered a speedy and full investigation into the cause of the assault and prosecution of Seun Kuti.

Basis for Sophia Akuffo’s participation in DDEP protest unclear

0

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah is baffled as to why former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo found it necessary to protest against government’s proposed Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).

To him, as far as government is not imposing the programme on anyone, the former CJ could have just opted out, instead of causing a spectacle.

“The Finance Minister has on several occasions said that the programme is not compulsory but voluntary. So I am confused as to why the former CJ protested yesterday. There are others who are willing to participate in the programme and did not come out to protest so if we have the choice to participate, and she prefers not to, then the basis for her protest is not clear.”

“I do not understand why she chose to demonstrate over something she has the freedom to choose,” he said on The Big Issue on Saturday.

The former Chief Justice on Friday, February 10, 2023, joined a group of pensioners to picket at the Finance Ministry.

She described the move by the government as sheer wickedness and outright disrespect to the elderly who have sacrificed their lives for the development of the nation.

Madam Sophia Akuffo also called on the government to be transparent and account to Ghanaians what led to the current economic crisis and what all the loans were used for.

She threatened to head to Court if government does not exclude pensioners from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.

He highlighted positive indicators of economic recovery, citing controlled inflation, a relatively stable exchange rate, and a resurgence in economic growth.

“Fellow Ghanaians, I am particularly happy that our nation has turned the corner, following three difficult years we and indeed the world have faced. Inflation is being reined in, we are experiencing a relatively stable exchange rate and growth in our economy is rebounding.”

Mikel Arteta delivers Bukayo Saka injury update

0

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has allayed fears about Bukayo Saka after the England winger was withdrawn during Monday night’s 3-0 FA Cup third round win over Oxford.

The 21-year-old was treated for what appeared to be discomfort in his right knee with the Gunners 2-0 up, and he was taken off immediately before Arsenal scored a decisive third.

Saka has featured in all but one of Arsenal’s 25 games in all competitions so far this season, starting 20 of them and missing on the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton in November. Saka has also had a direct hand in 13 goals (seven scored, six assists).

But Arteta was able to give a positive update after the final whistle, telling broadcaster ITV: “He is fine, he was fine.”

It therefore bodes well for Saka being fit when the Gunners makes the short trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the north London derby on Sunday.

This is now part of a crunch period for Arsenal, with a resurgent Manchester United to visit the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League and an FA Cup tie against Manchester City before the end of January. The Gunners still lead the Premier League by five points ahead of City.

Listen now as Scott Saunders hosts Graeme Bailey and Toby Cudworth in the latest episode of Talking Transfers. This week they discuss Man Utd’s interest in Mohammed Kudus, Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea, Jude Bellingham’s decision and Mykhaylo Mudryk’s preferred move. Available on all audio platforms.

But fans are keen for the club to use the January transfer window to strengthen in order to maintain that advantage until the end, especially after seeing Chelsea close in on Joao Felix.

Arsenal themselves remain in talks over a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, having so far seen offers of €60m and €70m rejected. Shakhtar ue the player at €90m, citing the summer transfer of Antony to Manchester United for a similar amount.

Arteta gave little away on Monday when the topic of recruitment came up.

“My job is to make those players [we have] as good as I can, we try to do that and if we have any reinforcements then great,” the boss explained.

No parliamentary approval for ambulance contract – Jakpa admits –

0

Answering questions under cross-examination by the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, embattled businessman, Richard Jakpa admitted that the international business agreement signed with a Dubai based company, Big Sea General Trading LLC, did not receive parliamentary approval as required by article 181(5) of the Constitution.

The businessman however explained that it was up to the Ministers for Finance and Health of the day to have submitted the agreement to Parliament for approval.

Mr Jakpa also admitted that Big Sea was not mentioned in the business proposal he submitted to the Ministry of Health for the supply of the ambulances. Big Sea was also not mentioned in the joint Memorandum submitted by the Ministers for Health and Parliament to Cabinet. The company was again not mentioned in the Cabinet approval for the transaction.

Mr Jakpa tried to explain to the court that Parliament’s Committee of Health had examined the specifications required for an ambulance whilst the Finance Committee examined the contract. However, the Attorney-General asked him to look at the Parliamentary approval and tell the court whether Big Sea was even mentioned.

Jakpa answered that he could not see Big Sea in it.

On the registration of Big Sea as a company licensed to convert vehicles into ambulances, the Attorney-General asked Jakpa to look at documents tendered by Jakpa himself and indicate when Big Sea was registered.

The Attorney-General indicated that per Jakpa’s own documents, Big Sea was registered as licensed to convert vehicles into ambulances originally on 9th April, 2015.

Jakpa replied that the registration is annual and renewed each year.
This is instructive as the Ambulance Contract was signed in 2012 and the importation of the ambulances itself was in 2014

Only stupid, jealous people would insult LilWin for using Nigerian actors – Charles Awurum to critics –

0

Popular Nigerian actor cum comedian, Charles Awurum, has lambasted persons who are criticizing Kwadwo Nkansah well known as LilWin for using Nollywood stars in the movie project called ‘A Country Called Ghana.’

Awurum questioned why some individuals would subject LilWin to criticisms for featuring Nigerian movie stars in his [LilWin’s] project and described the situation as “stupidity and foolishness.”

He argued that LilWin’s decision to involve Nigerian movie stars will help to revive the Ghana movie industry which is said to have been on the decline rather than impacting it negatively.

“Some jealous people who don’t want LilWin to progress are the ones castigating him for using Nigerian actors. The whole thing is stupidity and foolishness. LilWin is trying to uplift the movie industry in Ghana and they are sabotaging him. I think those people should be queried by the authorities.

“Although criticism is allowed, it should be constructive in the sense that it should not destroy one’s progress in life,” Awurum said in a video shared by Ghana Page on Youtube and sighted by GhanaWeb.

He expressed his displeasure after some personalities in the creative arts sector including Mr. Logic raised concerns about LilWin’s decision to use Nigerian actors for the ‘A Country Called Ghana’ movie at the expense of Ghanaians.

S&P Raises Ghana’s Debt Score

0

Ken Ofori Atta

S&P Global Ratings has upgraded the country’s local-currency debt rating following the settlement of its domestic debt exchange with bondholders.

The country’s foreign debt however, remains rated in default.

Ghana’s local credit score was raised to CCC+ from SD — or selective default — by S&P after new domestic debt securities were delivered to creditors, according to a S&P statement.

The credit assessor continues to score the West African nation’s foreign-currency debt at SD as the government works to restructure the external bonds, wrote analysts Frank Gill and Ravi Bhatia.

“We understand that the authorities aim to lower debt to GDP to about 55% over a five-year horizon,” they wrote. “Discussions with holders of foreign currency instruments are continuing.”

The country has been engaging investors since late 2022 to restructure about $30 billion of its $46 billion in local and international debt.

It recently completed the first part of a domestic restructuring, with investors exchanging 83 billion Cedis ($6.7 billion), or 64 per cent of holdings, for new securities, against an overall target of 80 per cent. It aims to start “substantive” discussions with international bondholders and their advisers in the coming weeks, Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta said Thursday.

Still, the ongoing discussion means payments have been halted on individual bonds. S&P on Friday lowered the ratings on three UK-law Eurobonds — maturing in 2023, 2027 and 2025 — to D, or default.

On Friday, a panel of dealers and investors agreed to review whether a missed payment of a coupon on one of a dollar bond due 2026 constituted a so-called credit event, which may trigger payout of insurance protection on the debt.

Dramatic Footage Of Mali Plane Crash Emerges |

0

Video footage has emerged showing how a plane believed to be operated by Mali’s air force crashed and went up in flames at the airport in Gao, northern Mali, last Saturday.

There has been speculation that mercenaries from Russia’s Wagner group may have been on board but this has not been independently verified.

The plane is seen landing in what appears to be a late touchdown, before overshooting the runway at high speed.

It then powers through what appear to be concrete barriers before falling down an embankment into a gulley and erupting into flames.

An image of the wreckage of the plane has also now appeared online, showing how a huge part of the plane’s body was consumed by the fire.

A Planet Labs’ satellite image taken on Saturday morning captured smoke rising from the wreckage. The freshly disturbed ground between the wreckage and the runaway was also visible, a sign of how it overshot the runaway.

Mali’s army is yet to comment on the crash. According the AFP news agency, the junta has just paid tribute to a lieutenant colonel who relatives say was killed aboard the plane in Gao on Saturday.

The BBC has come across social media posts paying tribute to a Russian pilot said to have died in the crash.

Malian forces, Wagner mercenaries and the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali all use the Gao airport.

The country has been facing increasing attacks from Islamist militants and Tuareg rebels in the north.

African Youth Ready To Lead Digitalisation – Morafo

Panelists and some dignitaries at the event

MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Nompilo Morafo, has expressed her confidence in the youth of Africa to lead the charge in technological advancement across the continent.

She made this known when she joined a panel to discuss the topic “Critical Enablers for Single Market Success– Leveraging Infrastructure, Innovation and Technology” at the second day of the 2024 African Prosperity Dialogues being held in Accra, Ghana.

Ms. Morafo said, “I have so much faith in Africa. I strongly believe the African youth is more than ready to lead the charge to drive the digitization agenda across the continent. As Africans, we are very entrepreneurial in spirit.

If you make connectivity available to young people, they will be able to use it to do innovative things. So, the issue is not about the readiness of the youth but about corporate bodies and governments making the resources available to them.”

She also touched on MTNs support to the youth in digital literacy.

She said, “What we are doing as MTN to tackle this challenge and bridge the gap is the launch of the MTN Skills Academy in eight of the markets we operate in. We have certainly learned a lot of lessons from this. There are so many tools our devices provide but the majority of our youth is not literate and cannot fully exploit the devices within their hands.

We must therefore work together as governments and as players in the private sector to push the digital literacy agenda. This way, our youth will move from simply being consumers to properly using the tools provided to manage businesses and their lifestyles as well.”

The 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue is a three-day event that has as its overarching focus the need to propose concrete measures in driving Africa’s progress.

Themed “Delivering Prosperity in Africa: Produce. Add Value. Trade”, the three-day high-level dialogue brings together government and business leaders from across Africa and beyond to deliberate and exchange ideas on key issues and solutions in building and harnessing Africa’s growth.

Bernard Mornah slams Ben Ephson over NPP primary predictions

0

Bernard Mornah

Former Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has criticized pollster Ben Ephson for his inaccurate prediction of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

In an interview on Accra-based UTV. Mr. Mornah described as worrying Mr. Ephson’s consistent inaccurate polls which is misleading of Ghanaians.

Mr. Mornah pointed out that, Mr. Ephson had confidently predicted that the Vice President would get a minimum of 73% of the vote, but the actual outcome deviated significantly from this projection by more than 15%.

This discrepancy, in Mr. Mornah’s view, raised doubts about the validity of Mr. Ephson’s research.

“This is not the first time; repeatedly he [Ephson] has made these predictions, and every time there is a significant gap between the margin of error, it means that your research is unreliable” Mr. Mornah said.

The PNC man emphasized the importance of scrutinizing Ben Ephson’s polling methodologies and analyses when it comes to election predictions.

The former PNC Chairman cited how Ben Ephson predicted that, Ken Agyapong will lose 10% of votes due to his infamous ‘showdown’ comment but the reverse was the case.

According to him, the primary results indicated that, Mr. Agyapong actually gained more supporters following his outburst.

Based on this backdrop, Bernard Mornah said Mr. Ephson’s inaccurate forecasts have given Ghanaians false hope.

Kyeiwaa preaches on the street in new skit

Kumawood actress Kyeiwaa has delighted her fans by releasing a new skit on her YouTube Channel just two weeks after returning from the US.

In the opening scene of the skit, she joyfully sang praises to God, holding her Holy Bible in one hand while using the other to make expressive gestures in the air. The humour kicked in when a lady passed by and offered words of encouragement, commending Kyeiwaa for her devotion to the gospel.

The lady said street preachers like her inspire others to love God and even gave her an offering.

After the lady walked away, Kyeiwaa playfully urged everyone not to judge her, knowing very well that passersby might criticize her choice of a mini dress and boots, which is a deviation from the traditional attire of Ghanaian preachers.

Towards the end of the skit, Kyeiwaa encountered two young men who humorously mocked her dress and pointed out that it didn’t align with the teachings of the Bible she carried.

This led to a comical altercation between the two parties, sparking laughter and amusement among viewers in the comment section.

Prior to the local movie industry taking a nosedive, Kyeiwaa was one of the top actresses in that space featuring in many movies.

She traveled to live and work in the United States for a while when the industry stopped thriving.

But from her utterances, living abroad and surviving on menial jobs has not helped her largely due to the fact that she couldn’t access better opportunities with her low education.

It appears that Kyeiwaa, who’s now back to settle in Ghana, is looking to cash in on the new trend of skit making which is now fetching many people monies they may not have made from regular acting.

Putin praises Russian troops for putting down mutiny as Prigozhin jet reaches Belarus

0

President Vladimir Putin praised members of Russia’s military and security forces in a ceremony on Tuesday as he sought to reassert his authority following an aborted mutiny by mercenaries led by Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin.

A jet linked to Prigozhin arrived in Belarus from Russia, believed to be carrying the mercenary boss into exile, three days after he abruptly called off his mutiny with his fighters bearing down on the capital.

Authorities dropped a criminal case against Wagner, state news agency RIA reported, apparently fulfilling one condition of a deal agreed late on Saturday that defused the crisis.

!function(e,t,r){let n;if(e.getElementById(r))return;const o=e.getElementsByTagName(“script”)[0];n=e.createElement(“script”),n.id=r,n.defer=!0,n.type=”module”,n.src=”https://playback.oovvuu.media/player/v2/index.js”,o.parentNode.insertBefore(n,o)}(document,0,”oovvuu-player-sdk-v2″);

Putin told some 2,500 security personnel mustered on a square in the Kremlin complex that the people and the armed forces had stood together in opposition to the rebel mercenaries.

He was joined by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, whose dismissal had been one of the mutineers’ main demands.

Putin also requested a minute of silence to honour Russian military pilots killed in the revolt. The fighters had shot down several aircraft during their run towards Moscow, although they faced no resistance on the ground.

Prigozhin, a former Putin ally and ex-convict whose mercenaries have fought the bloodiest battles of the Ukraine war and taken heavy casualties, had said he would go to neighbouring Belarus at the invitation of its president, close Putin ally Alexander Lukashenko.

!function(e,t,r){let n;if(e.getElementById(r))return;const o=e.getElementsByTagName(“script”)[0];n=e.createElement(“script”),n.id=r,n.defer=!0,n.type=”module”,n.src=”https://playback.oovvuu.media/player/v2/index.js”,o.parentNode.insertBefore(n,o)}(document,0,”oovvuu-player-sdk-v2″);

Details of his proposed journey into exile were not made public, and there was no confirmation of his whereabouts in the three days since the mutiny, including whether he was on board the plane tracked into Belarus on Tuesday morning.

Flight tracking service Flightradar24’s website showed an Embraer Legacy 600 jet, bearing identification codes that match a plane linked to Prigozhin in U.S. sanctions documents, descending to a landing altitude near the Belarus capital Minsk.

It first appeared on the tracking site above Rostov, the southern Russian city Prigozhin’s fighters had captured during the mutiny.

He was last seen in public on Saturday night, smiling and high-fiving bystanders as he rode out of Rostov in the back of an SUV after ordering his men to stand down.

Putin said in a televised address on Monday night that the mutiny leaders had betrayed their motherland, although he did not mention Prigozhin by name. Wagner fighters would be permitted to establish themselves in Belarus, join the Russian military, or go home, he said.

!function(e,t,r){let n;if(e.getElementById(r))return;const o=e.getElementsByTagName(“script”)[0];n=e.createElement(“script”),n.id=r,n.defer=!0,n.type=”module”,n.src=”https://playback.oovvuu.media/player/v2/index.js”,o.parentNode.insertBefore(n,o)}(document,0,”oovvuu-player-sdk-v2″);

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a news briefing on Tuesday that the deal ending the mutiny was being implemented, and that he had no information on where Prigozhin was. He also said he did not know how many Wagner fighters would sign contracts with the Defence Ministry.

He dismissed the idea that Putin’s grip on power had been shaken by the mutiny, calling such thoughts “hysteria”.

DEMONSTRATION OF PROTEST

Prigozhin, 62, said he launched the mutiny to save his group after being ordered to place it under the command of the defence ministry.

His fighters halted their campaign on Saturday to avert bloodshed after nearly reaching Moscow, and regretted being forced to shoot down aircraft on the way, he said.

“We went as a demonstration of protest, not to overthrow the government of the country,” Prigozhin said in an audio message on Monday.

In Putin’s overnight speech, his first public comments since the mutiny, he confirmed that Russian pilots had been killed, and thanked Russians for showing patriotic solidarity.

Russia’s enemies wanted to see the country “choke in bloody civil strife” but Russia would not succumb to “any blackmail, any attempt to create internal turmoil,” Putin said.

Russian leaders have tried to convey that the situation is returning to normal after the aborted mutiny. Putin met on Monday night with the heads of security services, including Defence Minister Shoigu.

In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in his nightly address that the military had made advances on Monday in all sectors of the front line, calling it a “happy day”.

Kyiv hopes the chaos caused by the mutiny attempt in Russia will undermine Russian defences as Ukraine presses on with a counter-offensive to recapture occupied territory. It claimed on Monday to have captured a ninth village in the south where it had been advancing since early June.

Explosions were heard in the central Ukrainian central city of Kremenchuk after a Russian air strike on Tuesday, a Ukrainian air force spokesman said.

Kremenchuk is the site of a Ukrainian oil refinery that has been attacked repeatedly by Russia since it invaded Ukraine last year. Ukrainian officials have said it is no longer functioning.

Ojay hijacked the system with snippet of his Sallah jam (Video)

The music industry has been dominated by a few key players for far too long. But with the rise of social media and independent artists, the power dynamic is beginning to shift. One artist who has managed to harness the power of social media is Ojay, whose Sallah jam snippet “Change Style” has taken the internet by storm.

Sallah, or Eid al-Adha, is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar. It is a time of celebrations, feasting, and music. Ojay, a rising star in the Ghanaian music industry, decided to release a snippet of his new Sallah jam on TikTok and Facebook dubbed “Change Style” . The response is overwhelming.

Within an hour, the snippet had been shared thousands of times. Fans began to create content and dance videos to the catchy tune. Ojay has hijacked the system and in doing so, has given hope to independent artists everywhere.

What makes Ojay’s success even more impressive is that he’s doing his stuff without the backing of a major record label. He simply uploaded the snippet to his TikTok and Facebook accounts, and it took on a life of its own. This is the power of social media, and it is the reason why independent artists are beginning to garner more attention than ever before.

But it’s not just the power of social media that has made Ojay’s Sallah jam snippet so successful. The song itself listening to the snippet is incredibly catchy, with a beat that is impossible not to dance to. The lyrics are witty and poignant, and they capture the spirit of Sallah perfectly.

Moreover, Ojay’s decision to release the snippet during Sallah is a stroke of genius. It will tap into the celebratory mood of the festival and provide a much-needed dose of joy and happiness during a difficult time.

Ojay’s Sallah jam snippet “Change Style” is a testament to the power of social media and the creativity of independent artists. It has shown that you don’t need a major record label to succeed in the music industry – all you need is talent, vision, and a bit of luck. Ojay has proven that he has all three in spades, and we can’t wait to see what he does next after the Sallah jam.

Philip Shaibu Throws Weight Behind APC’s Candidate, Labels Ighodalo Outsider

0

Ahead of Edo State 2024 Governorship election, former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu has revealed reasons for supporting All Progressives Congress’s candidate.

Shaibu disclosed that Senator Monday Okpebholo has the characteristics of the homeboy to rule the state.

INFORMATION NIGERIA reports that the former deputy governor made this known on Sunday, during the celebration of Fathers’ Day at the St Paul Catholic Church in Benin City.

Shaibu described Asue Ighodalo, as a product of godfatherism, which, he said, had been eradicated from the political history of Edo State.

He said: “I am a very good learner and learning is what is most important in our lives and we must continue to learn till we die.

“Governor Obaseki says he has the right to support whoever he wants to support but he also forgot that he doesn’t have the right to stop anybody from supporting whoever they wants to support. So, it is my right to also decide who I want to support.

“I will support a homeboy. I came into the contest to be governor of Edo State because I needed governance to return to a homeboy, somebody who understands our plight and somebody who understands what the people are feeling.

“We don’t want an outsider. We have experimented with an outsider and it is not working, so this time, we want a homeboy. We have only two home boys in the major political parties; one is in the Labour Party and one is in the All Progressives Congress.

“I chose to follow the homeboy in the APC. The man they are parading in the PDP is an outsider and we have also agreed that no more godfatherism in Edo. The man the PDP is parading is the godson of Obaseki and there is no way a godson can be governor of Edo State again.”

When asked if he won’t be sanctioned over anti-party, Shaibu said that Governor Godwin Obaseki did it during the last general election.

He said: “No, it is not anti-party because I know that in the last election, the governor was one leg in the Labour Party and one leg in the PDP, so it can’t be anti-party now.”

Bondholders to meet Ofori-Atta over March 13 ‘assurance’

0

Representatives of bondholders who did not subscribe to the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) have raised doubts about the assurances given by the Ministry of Finance to pay coupons on old bonds by Monday, March 13.

The Ministry, in a statement on Monday, February 27, assured that administrative steps are being taken to ensure that coupons and principals on old bonds are paid by the set date.

But speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 on Monday, February 27, a legal representative of the Individual Bondholders Association of Ghana, Martin Kpebu, said the import of the statement to them is that not all will receive payment by March 13.

“This is a window that is open so that by the 13th [March], some people will be paid [but] some will not be paid,” he said, adding that the statement issued by the Ministry “doesn’t commit to payment to everybody who is owed money”.

He, therefore, indicated that all the bondholders, be it individual or pensioners, will seek audience with the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, for proper assurances on the new development.

“We’ll meet as a collective and go see the Minister for clarification.”

Uriel has become the second housemate to be evicted from the Big brother All Stars house.

The Nation Newspaper reported that, Jury split their votes with two of the jurors voting for Uriel and one vote for Seyi.

As you may remember, Uriel sobbed during her journaling session on Wednesday as she bemoaned the unfair treatment she was receiving from her housemates.

She expressed displeasure that certain housemates are receiving “superstar” treatment, according to the Leadership Newspaper.

She added that Uriel only ever had supporting roles on their wager tasks whereas Mercy Eke always received important positions.

Because Venita is connected to her boyfriend, Neo, she claimed there is a lot of tension between them but that she is attempting to avert a fight.

We were rehearsing for our wager job today when Venita suggested I be the midwife. Big Brother, I apologize for saying this, but I am confident in my ability to portray a queen. I don’t mean to brag. A power play is active, though. Mercy is her friend, thus Venita is prioritizing her.

I never gave Fred Nuamah my blessings to contest Ayawaso West, this is a betrayal – John Dumelo

0

Actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has dismissed claims that he gave his blessings to his friend and colleague Fred Nuamah to contest for the Ayawaso West Wuogon NDC Parliamentary seat.

According to him, Fred Nuamah knew he would contest to represent the constituency once again in the 2024 elections but he (Nuamah) went to pick the forms anyway.

Speaking on UTV’s United , he said the Ghana Movie Award CEO’s claims that he (Dumelo) had not informed him of his “second coming” and had given his blessing is untrue.

“I never gave him my blessings and I never told him in the face that ‘Fred I am not coming back (to Ayawaso) so you can go there’. I never said it, never in any conversation whatsoever,” he said.

John Dumelo added that “he called me two months ago and said he had heard of my return and so he was ready to support my bid to come back. He came to my birthday on February 3, and later in the evening he released his flyer.”

Fred Nuamah, John Dumelo said, later sent him a long message explaining why he was also bidding to contest.

However, the 2020 NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon said “I insisted then that I never told him I wouldn’t come back so which blessings did I give?”

“I think this is a betrayal and a stab in the back, especially for someone I’ve known for more than 20 years. I didn’t want to speak about this but I needed to clear the air after his statements…he is a liar,” John Dumelo added.

This comes after actor turned-politician Fred Nuamah claimed he was taken aback by his friend, John Dumelo’s “u-turn” after his declaration to contest once again for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat after previous assurances that he would not.

In an interview with graphic showbiz, Mr Nuamah explained that the 2020 NDC Parliamentary candidate for the constituency had informed him and others that he would no longer contest for a parliamentary seat in the Greater Accra Region.

Noting that he will not back down in the contest, Fred said that “he gave me his blessings when I made up my mind to contest.”

“I would have rather expected him to honour his word when he said he won’t contest the seat and, therefore, throw his support behind me,” the Ghana Movie Awards CEO said.

However, John Dumelo insists that no such interactions happened saying “does he deserve my blessings.”

John Dumelo is confident he will win the NDC primaries especially since he believes the delegates and constituents want him back.

Background

Ghanaians were taken aback by the news that Fred Nuamah and John Dumelo would be battling for the NDC parliamentary candidacy for Ayawaso West Wuogon ahead of the 2024 general election.

Although they will be contesting for the same position, in the same party, and at the same constituency (Ayawaso West Wuogon), John and Fred are good friends; Fred was actually John’s best man at his wedding in 2019.

Fred Nuamah announced his intention to contest first and days later John Dumelo made known his.

I'm surprised by John Dumelo's U-turn - Fred Nuamah on Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary contest

Meanwhile, in the 2020 election, John Dumelo vied for the constituency seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

He polled 37,778 votes against the incumbent, New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Lydia Seyram Alhassan’s 39,851 votes, offering hope for a good chance to probably win the slot at the next general election in 2024.

Blaugrana can get over the line –

0

It is all to play for in the second leg of this last-16 tie after Barcelona and Napoli drew 1-1 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last month.

The Naples club were arguably fortunate to avoid defeat, though, having scored with their only shot on target through Victor Osimhen in the 75th minute.

That came after Robert Lewandowski had put Barca ahead in Italy, but the Catalan giants failed to capitalise on their better opportunities.

Team news

Barcelona’s injury issues have worsened since the first leg, with Frenkie De Jong and Pedri both unavailable for this match, joining Gavi, Ferran Torres, Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso on the sidelines.

Jens Cajuste and Cyril Ngonge will be missing for Napoli, while Amir Rrahmani’s involvement is also in doubt and Piotr Zielinski is not registered for the knockout stages so will not feature.

The stats

Napoli have won just one of their last four games in the Champions League and they leaked nine goals in the competition’s group stage.

As for Barcelona, they topped Group H with four wins from their six matches.

The Blaugrana are on a decent run of form, having not lost any of their last eight matches in a run stretching back to the end of January.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was on the scoresheet in Napoli’s home first leg against Barcelona.

Prediction

LaLiga title may seem increasingly out of reach for Xavi’s Barca, but they could be dark horses in this season’s Champions League.

They topped their group earlier this season with four wins from six games and arguably deserved to win the first leg of this last-16 tie in Naples.

They won the shot count 12-6 and reduced Napoli to just a solitary shot on target.

Unfortunately for Barca, Napoli found the net with it, but the draw forms part of an eight-game unbeaten run for Xavi’s side.

Barcelona have looked especially good at home recently, smashing Getafe 4-0 and edging Mallorca 1-0 in their last two games at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Injuries have piled up for Barca, but they have handled them well and have adopted a more conservative approach as a result.

That has led to three successive clean sheets from the Catalan club since the first leg and, with that in mind, they are worth a bet to win without conceding against Napoli on Tuesday.

“Not all kenkey are created equal. The best value kenkey we found was in La: 2.86 cedis for kenkey the weight of a sachet of water. The worst value was in East Legon: 6.56 cedis,” a tweet by The Kenkey Index on September 30 said.

While the cost of Ga kenkey to consumers in Accra has been rising over the last year in line with national food inflation, new research by The Kenkey Index unwraps the dynamics of kenkey prices and shows early signs of easing the squeeze on kenkey lovers.

What is the price of kenkey? GH¢2? GH¢3? GH¢4? Now, kenkey even sells at GH¢5.

But how does the five-cedi kenkey of today compare with the two-cedi kenkey of last year? How does kenkey in Kaneshie compare with kenkey in Cantonments? How does Ga kenkey compare with, say, Fante kenkey? How heavy is the heaviest ball around? What does the price of kenkey say about inflation? Or more accurately, shrinkflation?

Since August 2022, The Kenkey Index has been tracking the pricing of Ga kenkey around Accra to make sense of all these balls in the air for public consumption.

Yes, kenkey is shrinking in size even as the price per ball is inching up.

From the shrinkflation perspective, the weight of kenkey (at a given price) has shrunk by 32 percent year on year.

For inflation, the price of kenkey (at a given weight) is up 51.8 percent (right in line with the Ghana Statistical Service’s most current national food inflation of 51.9 percent).

Prices on the market now range from GH¢2 to GH¢5, but the most common price is GH¢4 – up from GH¢3 one year ago. Kenkey equivalent to the weight of a sachet of water now costs on average GH¢4.69, up from GH¢3.09 a year ago.

Daniil Medvedev reached the US Open fourth round for the fifth successive year

Third seed Daniil Medvedev overcame a late wobble to hold off a spirited challenge from Argentina’s Sebastian Baez and reach the US Open last 16.

Medvedev, who lifted the title in 2021, took his fourth match point at 01:30 local time to win 6-2 6-2 7-6 (8-6).

The 27-year-old Russian also finished his previous match against Chris O’Connell in the early hours and said finishing so late was “tough”.

“I just want to go to sleep. It’s good we did not finish at 4am,” he said.

“When you go to play at 11pm, it just feels tough. This time I decided not to sleep before and I ate, so I was feeling pretty bad on the court.

“That’s why I was nervous all the match.”
Medvedev will play Alex de Minaur in the fourth round after the Australian 13th seed recorded a straightforward 6-1 6-3 6-2 victory over Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in one hour and 44 minutes.

Italian sixth seed Jannik Sinner knocked out former champion Stan Wawrinka in a 6-3 2-6 6-4 6-2 win.

Sinner, 22 will play Germany’s Alexander Zverev after the 2020 finalist beat Bulgarian 19th seed Grigor Dimitrov in a 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 6-1 victory.

Russia’s Andrey Rublev also secured his last-16 spot with a 3-6 6-3 6-1 7-5 victory over Arthur Rinderknech of France.

The eighth seed will next face Britain’s Jack Draper, who reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time with a win over Michael Mmoh.

Draper, 21, is the only remaining Briton in the singles after Cameron Norrie lost to Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi and Dan Evans was beaten by defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Victories for Sinner and Spanish top seed Alcaraz mean the pair could face each other in the last eight for a rematch of last year’s quarter-final tie – a five-set thriller won by the Spaniard, which set a record for the latest finish at the tournament of 02:50 local time.

The victims, youths from a nearby community, were shot by a local fetish priest who claimed they were part of a group attempting to attack him.

The incident occurred in a secluded area near the residence of the suspect, Osman Majeed, a fetish priest.

Three of the young men died instantly at the scene, and another person, who was also part of the group, succumbed to gunshot wounds later.

Bloodstains and bullet cartridges were still visible at the scene a day after the incident, highlighting the severity of the violence.

They believe that visible law enforcement presence is necessary to restore confidence and security within the community.

Freda Prempeh, presenting her nomination forms to Stephen Ntiamoah Takyi

SOME NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) coordinators and polling station executives have paid for the nomination forms for Freda Prempeh, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North Constituency in the Ahafo Region.

The historic move and show of love was done by the NPP members as a way of displaying their unflinching support for their sitting MP, who has performed very well during her three terms in Parliament, spanning from 2012, 2016 to 2020.

According to the NPP members, Freda Prempeh’s performance, both in Parliament and in the constituency, has been excellent so far, and they want her to sustain her good works for the area, hence paying for the nomination forms for her.

Freda Prempeh, who doubles as the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, also showed her appreciation to the NPP coordinators and polling station executives when she submitted her nomination forms to the party executives on Wednesday.

“I am delighted to present my nomination forms paid for by coordinators, and polling station executives in this constituency who are asking that I seek a fourth term to do more for the people including creating opportunities of jobs for the youth and the aged.

“And due to other responsibilities I have in Parliament, I am doing it today so I can represent them in Parliament as the House rises on Friday”, Freda Prempeh stated, adding that her utmost desire and vision was to lead the area into prosperity.

Significantly, Freda Prempeh, the sitting Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, is the first cabinet Minister from the Ahafo Region. She was followed to the party office by scores of enthusiastic party members and supporters.

She presented her completed party nomination forms to the NPP Tano North Constituency Secretary, Stephen Ntiamoah Takyi at the party’s office at Duayaw Nkwanta, amid pomp and pageantry.

Sounding confident, she said the upcoming parliamentary primary would be the easiest because she trusts the delegates to grant her a resounding endorsement on January 27, 2024 so she can win her fourth term and serve her people.

In a related development, Freda Prempeh has toured and inspected ongoing projects being done under her leadership by the NPP government. They include Bedomie-Jachie, Predua, Buokurukuruwa and Duayaw Nkwanta junction roads, which are nearing completion.

The Bomaa SHS and Serwaah Kese SHS have received brand new school infrastructure including mechanised bore holes to aid the students and staff to have regular water supply in order to make life comfortable for them on campus.

Also, two modern toilet facilities are being constructed at Efisipa and Yamfo communities. At Koforidua and Yamfo, the communities have received two astroturf projects, with the one in Koforidua already in use.

Lastly, the construction of the National Training School for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), which has three large dormitories, modern classrooms and an administration block, is over 85% complete at Buokurukuruwa,

IGP leaked tape probe done, committee yet to consider report

0

The ranking member on the ad hoc committee probing the leaked IGP tape saga, James Agalga, has stated that investigations have concluded, and the report of the committee is at a draft stage, awaiting validation by members.

He indicated that, although the committee has concluded its investigations, budget-related business in Parliament has prevented members of the committee from convening for the last time to unanimously approve and adopt the report, as the Standing Orders of the House require.

However, he stressed that the committee will convene once members are done with the budget estimates to finalize and adopt the report.

“The committee has concluded the investigations, and we have a draft report that is yet to be considered by all the members of the committee because, per the Standing Orders, draft reports are subject to approval by the members of the committee, so that is what is outstanding.”

“Unfortunately, we are in the budget season and all the members are caught up in their various committees and are working on budget estimates. I had warned that there was a need for us to act expeditiously so that we could have skipped the budget season, but things did not happen that way so we are hoping that as soon as we are done with the budget estimates, we can convene and adapt the report.”

CK Akonnor clashes with Sports Minister over payment of $100,000

0

CK Akonnor

Former Black Stars head coach, CK Akonnor, has denied receiving an amount of $100,000 from the Ministry of Youth and Sports following the termination of his contract in 2021.

The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko gaffer, having signed a two-year deal in January 2020, was dismissed in September 2021 following a defeat against South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

During a press briefing last Wednesday, the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, despite admitting the country still owes C.K Akonnor and Milovan Rajevac, claimed both were paid $100,000 each following the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to relieve them of their duties.

“We still owe Milovan [Rajevac],” he said at a press briefing.

“All of C.K and Milovan, once their contract was terminated, we sat with them, negotiated their exit and C.K was paid $100,000 immediately after the negotiation same as Milovan.”

However, Akonnor in an interview with Graphic Sports dismissed the statement of the Sports Minister, claiming the exact amount he received was not what was mentioned by the minister.

”I never received the kind of money the minister mentioned. I don’t want to put out how much they paid me but it was not $100,000 as the minister said,” Akonnor said.

Akonnor stated that after he was sacked, he was paid in cedis and told to convert it to dollars using the Bank of Ghana rate. However, while the rate was significantly lower than the market rate at the time, it was nothing near the amount mentioned by the minister.

The 47-year-old also requested the minister to review the contract he had with the GFA, which was still on file at the FA. He urged the minister to review the contract to find out how they arrived at that amount.

”My contract is still with the FA and if he likes he can go and check the agreement we had and see before making the claim and he will know that he is wrong,” Akonnor stated.

CK Akonnor played 10 games, winning four, losing four and drawing two. Following his dismissal, Akonnor was replaced by Milovan Rajevac but the Serbian was also sacked following a poor performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

‘Don’t play politics with people’s lives,’ Hanifa Adan Clashes with Health CS Susan Nakhumicha

0

Popular Twitter activist Hanifa Adan has responded to Health CS Susan Nakhumicha’s recent remarks questioning the ongoing fundraising efforts for medical bills of protesters injured during recent demonstrations.

CS Nakhumicha announced Wednesday morning that 235 out of 294 victims had already received free treatment and had been discharged, a service provided by the government.

However, Hanifa countered these claims, alleging that Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) only waived bills after significant media coverage highlighting the plight of one injured protester.

She accused CS Nakhumicha of politicizing the issue and accused her of attempting to create divisions among the youth.

“There are so many people in KNH complaining up to now that they haven’t received surgery yet and are in pain. We transferred 5 people from KNH to Nairobi West and they’re doing well,” Hanifa asserted.

Using the social media platform X, Hanifa detailed her ongoing efforts to cover medical expenses for protesters across various hospitals, including Moi Referral Hospital and Embu Level 5 Hospital. She criticized the delayed response from the Health CS, noting that the protests had been ongoing for more than two weeks.

“Another fact check. We’ve been paying for Moi referral hospital, We’re paying for Embu level 5 and other public hospitals as well. Even people in Mbagathi, we visited them and we are waiting for the invoices. I’m repeating, do not play politics with people’s lives,”@Honeyfarsafi emphasized.

The human rights activist took the initiative in arranging funeral expenses for families who lost loved ones during the anti-Finance Bill protests. She also extended her support to the families of Rex Kanyike and Evans Kiratu, who tragically lost their lives during the Thursday Occupy Parliament protests.

Together with collaborators Kimuzi and Osama Otero, Hanifa mobilized youths through a fundraising campaign named ‘Care for The Injured’ on various social media platforms, including X and TikTok.

By Friday, the fundraiser had surpassed its initial target of Kes.10 million, achieving a remarkable Kes.25,104,245 on the M-CHANGA digital fundraising platform.

Benjamin Quashie defends NDC’s defends NDC’s True State of the Nation Address

0

Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie, the South African Council of Elders Chairman of the National Democratic Congress and the Group Chairman of Allied Consortiums has berated persons livid over the NDC’s True State of the Nation Address.

He described the criticisms as baffling and out of place.

Speaking on CTV, while sharing his views on the True State of the Nation Address as presented by the National Chairman of the NDC, he echoed the fact that, the address touched on every aspect of the Ghanaian economy.

“Things are really hard. Unemployment is on the high, and those are the realities of our time”, he noted.

According to the NDC SA Council Chair, in reference to the financial sectors, “Most competent areas of our economy are crumbling all in the name of debt restructuring. For the first time in the history of Ghana, the international rating agencies have declared Ghana as “junk and bankrupt” and what is political about this if the NDC Chairman repeats same in his address?” he asked.

He further asserted that, for rating agencies to describe our economy as “junk and bankrupt” speaks volumes about our country but, when our President spoke, he never made mention of that.

Again, the 2021 Population and Housing Census, shows that youth unemployment is on high ascendancy. “The Bank of Ghana has gone on a spree of printing money; something that has not happened in the history of the Republic”, and all these go to show that our country is in dire challenges.

He continued that the whole economy is in shambles and from the State of the Nation Address, as given by the president, it appears either the President is out of touch with reality or his advisers did him a disservice.

From the narrations given by Chairman Asiedu Nketia, no one can defend the government. “From the point General Asiedu Nketia gave, it would be difficult for any NPP member to even try to defend this.

“You can’t defend a government that is going through difficulties and refusing to tell the citizenry”, he ended.

I’ll liaise with stakeholders to ensure teaching of GaDangme in schools

0

Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East and the Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate has pledged to work with stakeholders to introduce the teaching of GaDangme in schools across the region if given the nod.

During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointment Committee in Accra on Thursday, he responded to concerns about the absence of the GaDangme language in some regional schools.

He attributed the lack of Gadangme language in many schools in the region to urbanisation.

However, Mr Glover highlighted the unique and highly recognised culture of the Gadangmes.

He expressed his intention to collaborate with the education minister and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure the inclusion of the GaDangme language in school curricula when given the nod.

“It is unfortunate that urbanisation has contributed to this challenge that we are facing as a region. But we are proud as Gadangmes that we are identified first by our culture, our tradition, the food we eat, our festivals and the language or dialect that we speak.

“I will quickly liaise with the Minister for Education…Ghana Education Service and the Minister for Education we need to sit and look at what we can all do collectively to ensure that our languages are taught in our schools,” he stated.

Cedi to remain stable against dollar this week

0

Cedi and dollar

The Ghana cedi is expected to remain relatively stable against the US dollar this week, following an ease in corporate demand.

This follows a slight gain against the American greenback last week.

The local unit closed stronger against the major trading currencies last week, amidst the Bank of Ghana’s intervention in the market and reduced demand from importers and corporate institutions.

It gained 0.62% week-on-week against the dollar, reaching a mid-rate of ¢12.02 to one American greenback. It also advanced 0.86% against the pound, whereas it remained unchanged against the euro on the retail market.

The Central Bank sold $20 million to the bulk oil distribution companies and $3.8 million on the spot market.

This stamped out some foreign exchange demand, aiding the cedi’s performance last week.

On the interbank market, the situation was however calm.

Meanwhile, the cedi has lost about 11.73% in value to the dollar on the retail market since January 1, 2023. This is compared with 22% depreciation on the interbank market.

Lives shouldn’t be lost due to our different political views – Bawumia –

0

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged political actors to consider their actions carefully as the 2024 polls approach.

He emphasized that political differences should not result in loss of lives.

There has been a heated exchange between the two main political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agric, has insisted that the NPP will not hand over power to the NDC.

Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, declared their determination to win the elections by hook or crook. In response, Opare Ansah Addo, the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, issued a warning to Bryan Acheampong.

“We are prepared to respond aggressively to any misbehaviour by an election officer or an agent of this failed ruling government who attempts to thwart the will of the people on December 7, 2024. No one should dare play games with the NDC and the people of Ghana,” he cautioned.

However, during the 13th Annual Night of Power in the holy month of Ramadan at Parliament, Dr Bawumia, the NPP Flagbearer, highlighted the responsibility of political actors to ensure that properties and lives are not harmed during the elections.

“No property should be destroyed, and no relationship should be ruined because of differences in our political views. No single life should be lost because of the elections.”

“Allah has told us in Qur’an chapter 3 verse 26 that ‘Sovereignty and power belongs to Allah. He gives sovereignty and power to whom He wills.

“The Christian faith similarly shares the same view. So, it is important for all of us to go about the electoral process peacefully, knowing that we cause confusion and mayhem in vain because God will always prevail.”

Kenya and EU Finalize Groundbreaking Trade Agreement

0

On Monday, Kenya and the European Union concluded the signing of a long-negotiated trade agreement aimed at enhancing the exchange of goods between the two markets. This move aligns with Brussels’ efforts to strengthen economic ties with Africa.

The Economic Partnership Agreement ensures that Kenya gains duty-free and quota-free access to the EU, its largest export market. In return, European goods will receive gradual tariff reductions.

This agreement marks the first comprehensive trade deal between the EU and an African nation since 2016. It comes in the wake of substantial investments by China in opulent infrastructure projects across the continent.

The agreement was reached after years of negotiations, concluding in June.

“Although today represents a moment of monumental promise, it is also the beginning of a historic partnership for historic transformation,” Kenyan President William Ruto said at a ceremony attended by European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen in Nairobi.

“The core of this arrangement is to put real money into the pockets of ordinary people,” added Ruto.

Win-Win Situation

EU Chief von der Leyen described the partnership as a “win-win situation on both sides” and urged other East African nations to join the pact.

“We are deepening trade ties and building up our economic resilience,” she said.

“We are opening a new chapter in our very strong relationship and now our effort should be focused on implementation,” von der Leyen added.

The approval of both the Kenyan and European parliaments is required to ratify the deal and bring it into force.

The European Union highlighted that this agreement represents “the most ambitious economic partnership” it has with a developing country.

The agreement incorporates commitments to sustainable development, encompassing areas such as labor rights and environmental protection, as stated by the EU.

“A dedicated chapter has been included on economic and development cooperation, aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the Kenyan economy,” the EU said.

According to government data, the 27-nation bloc constitutes more than 20 percent of Kenya’s total exports, primarily in agricultural products such as vegetables, fruits, and the renowned tea and coffee.

EU figures indicate that the overall two-way trade between the markets reached 3.3 billion euros ($3.6 billion) in 2022, marking a 27 percent increase since 2018.

EU Counters China’s Belt and Road programme

In a move to counter China’s Belt and Road program, the EU announced in February that it would boost investments in Kenya by hundreds of millions of dollars through its Global Gateway initiative.

Kenya initially signed a trade deal with the EU in 2016, together with its counterparts in the then-six-member East African Community (EAC) trade bloc. However, most EAC countries did not sign the agreement, preventing it from fully taking effect.

President William Ruto stated that the EAC has now expanded to eight member nations, all of whom are invited to join the new deal.

“This agreement that we are signing today leaves the door open, and I say, wide open, for our EAC partners to join,” President William Ruto said at the ceremony.

Unlike the other EAC members classified as least-developed countries, which allows their exports to maintain access without the deal, Kenya, being a middle-income country, needed to pursue a separate and standalone arrangement.

Govt Addresses Reports of Missing Fertilizer Donated by Russia to Kenya

The Ministry of Agriculture has refuted recent reports claiming that a shipment of fertilizer donated by the Russian Government to Kenya cannot be located.

On Tuesday, reports surfaced that 564 tonnes of fertilizer donated by Russia went missing in transit.

In response, the Ministry, through the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), clarified that the consignment was received and managed by NCPB, responsible for its distribution.

“NCPB has confirmed that the entire received quantity has been accounted for and transported for blending and granulation purposes,” the Ministry’s statement assured.

The expected amount of the donated consignment was 34,400MT. However, upon arrival and clearance, NCPB received 33,835MT, representing 98.36% of the manifest quantity.

“The resulting shortfall was 1.64%. In the shipping industry, a tolerable loss of up to 5% is considered acceptable. Therefore, the reported loss on the consignment (1.64%) falls within acceptable limits,” clarified the board.

The Ministry reiterated that the fertilizer donation was stipulated for delivery to the port, hence no shipping costs were incurred by the government.
