John Mahama Delivers A Powerful Message To Sam George On His New Ministerial Role
News Hub Creator19h
In a recent national address, President John Dramani Mahama congratulated Honorable Samuel Nartey George on his appointment as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation. The President emphasized that George now shoulders the critical task of ensuring that Ghana’s robust communication systems—long a cornerstone of the nation—continue to thrive and evolve under his stewardship.
“We have the responsibility to advance Ghanaian communication and digitalization,” Mahama stated. “The country’s communications sector has grown steadily over the years, and you, as the new Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, are expected not only to sustain this progress but also to implement policies that will further expand the sector.”
Sam George, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, is well known for his vocal advocacy on education, healthcare, and governance, as well as his commitment to representing the interests of his constituents. A steadfast critic of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), George has built a reputation for challenging authority and speaking out against policies he deems detrimental.
The President’s message comes on the heels of a turbulent political journey. After facing defeats in the 2016 and 2020 elections, Mahama secured a comeback victory in the 2024 elections, with Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang serving as his Vice President.
This new chapter for Sam George is seen as a significant opportunity to drive further growth and innovation in Ghana’s communications and digital sectors.

Sokoban Krofrom Palace in Ashanti region raided, black stool stolen
Suspected robbers have invaded the Sokoban Krofrom Palace in the Ashanti Region, bolting with the traditional ‘black stool’ and other valuable items.
According to Adumasa family members, some heavily built men stormed the Palace when the new chief and the other family members went to the Manhyia Palace to swear the oath of allegiance.
Before their return, the palace had been invaded, and the ‘black stool’ stolen.
The “black stool” in Akan culture refers to a sacred throne, a revered symbol of authority, leadership, power, and spirituality, and is considered a sacred object that embodies the history, traditions, and values of a royal family.
“We were here when six macho men surrounded the palace with machetes and guns to vandalize the metal gate of the palace and bolted with the black stool and other items,” they claimed.
Expressing their worries to Adom news, they said all the doors in the rooms of the palace were vandalised.
“Our old men who tried to confront them were beaten mercilessly, and we the women were in mourning as they took away our valuables,” one family member said.
The family members are in a state of fear, as they called on the security agencies to intervene.
The police visited the palace as they launched an investigation into the matter.
Uganda probes death of Nigerian footballer in shopping mall
Abubakar Lawal, 29, reportedly fell from a third-floor balcony at the Voicemall Shopping Arcade
Police in Uganda are investigating the death of a Nigerian professional footballer who allegedly fell from a shopping mall in the capital, Kampala.
Abubakar Lawal, 29, reportedly fell from a third-floor balcony at the Voicemall Shopping Arcade, where he had gone to visit a Tanzanian friend.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, the police said.
They said Lawal’s friend, identified as Omary Naima, had left him in her room – which is part of the mall building – preparing tea before the incident happened.
Lawal was a striker playing for local team Vipers Sports Club, which has expressed its sadness for the “untimely passing of our beloved player”.
Tributes have been flowing in for the Nigerian forward, fondly known as “Man from Sokoto”.
He has been with Vipers since July 2022 after a two-year stint with AS Kigali in Rwanda.
In 2023, he helped Vipers win the league and cup double. In a post on X, the club said: “Lawal (Man from Sokoto) was a unique person”.
“He had a big heart of gold. He really cared about people and went out of his way to help. He was incredibly generous.”
His former team in Nigeria, Nasarawa United, said: “We mourn the sudden demise of our ex-player Abubakar Lawal earlier today. May God grant him eternal rest.”
Ugandan footballer Mustafa Kizza said he would be forever missed: “It’s hard to take in that you’re no more Lawal A kind, talented, jolly, and loving person you have been.”
Local media say the matter has left more questions than answers amid conflicting reports over the circumstances of Lawal’s death.
Some media initially reported that he had died in a motorcycle accident.
As a result of such “contrary information”, Nigeria’s authorities should probe the incident, Nigerian international Ahmed Musa said on social media.
He added: “Lawal’s soul deserves a thorough investigation and justice must be served if anyone is found guilty.”
Police in Uganda said they were already investigating the exact circumstances of the death.
“Authorities are retrieving CCTV footage and conducting thorough interrogations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said.
The police have retrieved some items belonging to the deceased player, including two smartphones, shoes, headsets and a training kit.
“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” the police added.

The Rest of Your Life Will Be So Painful that You’ll Prefer Death – Akufo-Addo Told On Live Radio
Artiste Manager Lawrence Asiamah popularly known as Bulldog or Bullgod in showbiz circles has said he hates ex President Akufo-Addo for his “bad governance”, raining curses on the two-term ex president.
According to Bullgod, President Akufo-Addo’s tenure as President of Ghana inflicted pain on many Ghanaians which will come back to haunt him.
NIB to grill Abronye today over corruption claims against Mahama
Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, is expected to appear before the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) today, February 26, 2025 over allegations he made against President John Mahama.
The NIB has invited Abronye DC to provide evidence to support his claims.
Speaking on Accra-based Movement TV, Abronye accused President Mahama of withholding GH₵550 million intended for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House.
“The Akufo-Addo government budgeted GH₵550 million for these individuals to be employed. This money comes from taxpayers, yet another government cancels the appointments and allegedly transfers the funds to the Jubilee House. So, what are you doing with the GH₵550 million that was put in bullion vans and sent to the Jubilee House?” he questioned.
“You have revoked people’s appointments, taken their GH₵550 million, and put it in a bullion van. Meanwhile, Mahama and Okudzeto Ablakwa travel every week and have not spent more than three days in the country,” he claimed.
Following his invitation, Abronye reacted, stating that he cannot be intimidated or silenced through the use of state security agencies.
Speaking on Movement TV, the outspoken politician emphasized that he remains resolute in his position on the matter and is eagerly awaiting the scheduled meeting with the NIB.
“I cannot be intimidated by any state security agency. I am not one of those who run away from accountability. Why? Don’t I have the right to question the president on where he’s keeping that money? Is this the Ghana we are building? These people know that both spiritually and physically, they always lose a fight against me. So, is this the strategy they are resorting to? I will demolish them.
“You, the same President Mahama, when you met the labour unions, stated that state resources were criminally used. Why can’t I also drag you to the NIB for questioning? We were in this country when a party chairman urged supporters of his party to burn DRIP machines, yet the Director of Investigation did not say a word on that issue. I am to appear before the NIB on Wednesday, but if they like, I can go and sleep there on Tuesday night ahead of the meeting.
“Nobody can threaten me or prevent me from asking relevant questions. Even Donald Trump was questioned after his company had a deal with Elon Musk’s company. When I appear before the NIB, I will use the word ‘hoarding’ in every paragraph. We can’t allow the government to keep that money,” he stated.

‘National Education Forum is not about politics, it’s about Ghana’ says Education and Development Consultant
An Education and Development Consultant has called on Ghanaians to put aside political affiliations and support the National Education Forum, stating that the initiative is a collective effort to secure Ghana’s future, not a political battleground.
Dr Samuel Awuku speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, February 25, passionately urged citizens to embrace the forum as a unifying national agenda.
“I would beg Ghanaians that there’s a point in our history that we can all say this is the right time for us to do things like this, and forget about any political ideology which is destroying us,” he stated.
Dr Awuku highlighted the dangers of excessive politicisation in Ghana’s discourse, noting that constructive ideas are often overshadowed by partisan interpretations.
“In a paper I wrote some time ago, I talked about political identity and political beliefs, and how Ghana will be so politicised such that if you make a point it is linked to a political party,” he lamented.
Drawing on his extensive experience in education reform, including his work since 2013 both locally and abroad, Dr. Awuku stressed that technical expertise should rise above politics.
“As a technical person, I remain a technical person. We all have to bear that in mind—that there’s a point in time that we all have to roll up our sleeves and say Ghana first, and make sure that what is needed to be done for Ghana to move forward, we do it,” he said.
Reflecting on his decision to join the National Education Forum committee, he described it as an opportunity to make a real difference.
“When I had a call to join this committee, I said wow, it’s an opportunity to make a difference. And people who know me very well, I know other people in the committee – you realise that everybody is committed to making this happen. There is no political affiliation, no political agenda. It is about Ghana,” Dr Awuku emphasized.
He praised President John Mahama’s call for inclusivity during the forum’s launch, noting the President’s clear message: “Everybody come on board. No single person should politicise this. It must be a national agenda,” Dr. Awuku reiterated.
Sharing a personal anecdote, Dr Awuku recalled his involvement in the 2017 pre-tertiary curriculum reform, which was initially met with political scepticism.
“A couple of days after I was invited to support the reform, some people went and reported to the then Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, that he’s brought an NDC person,” he recounted.
However, the Minister’s response left a lasting impression.
“He asked them, ‘In the schools, the children there, do they wear any political jersey or identity?’ These are children of Ghana, who need to be developed to have the best chances in life, and contribute to national development,” Dr Awuku quoted.
He urged all Ghanaians to adopt the perspective, stating that education should transcend politics.
“The day we all realise that when it comes to education, there’s nothing like politics, Ghana will move forward,” he concluded.
Dr Awuku’s remarks come at a critical time as the nation seeks to build consensus around education reforms that will shape the country’s future.
His plea is clear: “This is Ghana’s moment. Let’s do it together.”

Nkrumah built over 300 factories, but NDC sold them like tomatoes
Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh
The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has criticized the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for selling off factories built by Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Annoh-Dompreh, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, stated that this move by the NDC government led to the collapse of the country’s industrial base.
“Nkrumah built over 300 industries [factories]… I don’t need to tell them; history is clear. I will not tell you that. At whose instance were all these factories sold like tomatoes?” Annoh-Dompreh asked.
In March 2024, former Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye also accused the PNDC era and NDC governments of deliberately dismantling the country’s industrial base.
In a write-up, Prof. Oquaye referenced Ghana’s vibrant manufacturing sector in 1981, stating, “As of 31st December 1981, Ghana had its entire industrial base from 1957 intact.”
However, he alleged that this changed drastically under PNDC and NDC rule, led by the late Jerry John Rawlings.
According to the professor, “Between 1981 and 2001, over 350 state-owned enterprises collapsed under the so-called divestiture program. Yes! The entire industrial base of this country was wiped out by the NDC administration.”
To support his claim, Prof. Oquaye listed several thriving state-owned industries and corporations that existed in the late 1970s, providing jobs nationwide.
By 2001, he asserted, the NDC had “either collapsed or sold everything to themselves,” offloading key assets such as Ghana’s sole cement manufacturer, Ghacem, and the historic Abosso Glass Factory.
“I have every reason to dislike that party. Ghana is suffering due to that useless party led by John Mahama,” he intimated.
He added that by the time the NDC was removed from office in 2001, they had either collapsed or sold nearly all state-owned industries. The factories included:
Ghacem Cement (Shares sold to Norwegians)
Kwame Nkrumah Catering Rest Houses (Sold to NDC cronies)
Nsawam Cannery (Sold to the 31st December Women’s Movement)
Kanda GNTC (Sold to NDC cronies)
Atlantic Hotel (Sold by NDC)
Meridian Hotel (Sold by NDC)
Star Hotels (Sold by NDC)
Abosso Glass Factory (Sold by NDC)
Continental Hotel (Golden Tulip, Sold by NDC)
West Africa Mills Company
Tema Steel Company
Ghana Agro-Food Company (formerly TFCC)
GIHOC Bottling (became The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Ltd.)
Gliksen W/A Company (Sold by NDC)
Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (Sold in 1995)

Business-friendly budget will create a stable economic environment – GUTA tells Mahama ahead of SONA
President, Dr. Joseph Obeng
The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has expressed optimism about the 2025 Budget Statement to be presented by President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
The association is hopeful that the government’s assurance of reducing the cost of doing business through a streamlined tax system and reduced taxes, duties, and levies will come to fruition.
In a press release signed by its President, Dr. Joseph Obeng on February 26, 2025, GUTA emphasized the need for significant tax reforms and economic stability to support businesses.
Among their key expectations, the traders’ union is calling for the abolition of what they term ‘nuisance taxes,’ which they argue have impeded business growth.
They also stress the importance of restructuring the Value Added Tax (VAT) system to make it more simplified, affordable, and uniform.
One of the major concerns raised by GUTA is the current practice of using the Bank of Ghana’s weekly or biweekly exchange rate to determine duty payments at the ports.
The association suggests that pegging this rate on a quarterly or bi-annual basis would bring more stability and predictability to business operations.
1. “All nuisance taxes will be scrapped to considerably prune down the number of numerous taxes that impede the growth of business in the country.
2. “The Value Added Tax (VAT) will be restructured to be more simplified, affordable and uniform.
3. “The weekly or biweekly use of the Bank of Ghana Dollar Rate to determine duty payment at the ports should be pegged quarterly or bi-annually for the purpose of clearing goods.
4. “We urge the Government to introduce unconditional tax amnesty programmes as a stop-gap measure in its quest to broaden the tax base and to ensure non-tax businesses are enrolled into the tax net and also allow businesses with tax irregularities to normalize their tax obligation to optimize Government revenue mobilization,” part of the press statement said.
Dr. Obeng expressed confidence in the government’s commitment, stating, “We believe that a business-friendly budget will not only reduce the cost of doing business but also create a stable economic environment that fosters growth and prosperity for all traders in Ghana.”

Mahama’s Ministers Get the Nod But Minority Blocks Ablakwa’s Path
In a significant development within Ghana’s political landscape, Parliament has approved 12 additional ministers-designate nominated by President John Dramani Mahama. This approval comes amidst notable dissent from the Minority, particularly concerning the nomination of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for the position of Foreign Affairs Minister.
Background of the Nominations
President Mahama has been actively assembling his ministerial team to steer various sectors of the nation’s governance. The recent batch of 12 nominees was subjected to a vetting process by Parliament’s Appointments Committee. Following this scrutiny, the committee recommended their approval, leading to a parliamentary vote.
The Approved Nominees
The 12 ministers-designate who received parliamentary approval include:
1. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Foreign Affairs Minister-designate
2. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh – Health Minister-designate
3. Felix Kwakye Ofosu – Minister of State in charge of Government Communications
4. Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu – Savannah Region Minister-designate
5. Wilbert Petty Brentum – Western North Region Minister-designate
6. Joseph Nelson – Western Region Minister-designate
7. Joseph Addae Akwaboa – Bono Region Minister-designate
8. Francis Owusu Antwi – Bono East Region Minister-designate
9. Puozuing Charles Lwanga – Upper West Region Minister-designate
10. Ali Adolf John – Northern Region Minister-designate
11. John Kwadwo Gyapong – Oti Region Minister-designate
12. James Gunu – Volta Region Minister-designate
These individuals are expected to assume their respective roles upon swearing-in, contributing to the administration’s agenda across various sectors and regions.
Minority’s Rejection of Ablakwa’s Approval
Despite the overall approval, the Minority in Parliament expressed strong reservations regarding Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s nomination as Foreign Affairs Minister. Their dissent was evident during the vetting process and subsequent discussions. Specific reasons for the Minority’s rejection have not been detailed in the available sources.
Implications of the Approval
The endorsement of these ministers-designate signifies a step forward in President Mahama’s efforts to establish a functional and comprehensive government. The approved ministers are anticipated to bring their expertise to bear in their respective domains, addressing both national and regional challenges.
However, the Minority’s opposition to Ablakwa’s appointment highlights ongoing political tensions and differing perspectives within Parliament. Such dissent underscores the challenges inherent in achieving consensus in a diverse political environment.
The parliamentary approval of 12 ministers-designate marks a pivotal moment in Ghana’s governance, reflecting both progress and the complexities of political dynamics. As these ministers prepare to assume office, their performance will be closely monitored by both Parliament and the citizenry, ensuring accountability and effective service delivery.

You Saw The MP Who Made The Comment Against Zanetor, Expose Him Or Else
You Saw The MP Who Made The Comment Against Zanetor, Expose Him Or Else – Kevin Taylor To NDC MPs
News Hub Creator6min
Social media commentator Kevin Taylor has broken his silence regarding the controversial “daughter of a murderer” remark made in parliament.
During a parliamentary discussion marking the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death, a Member of Parliament launched an unprovoked attack on Dr. Zenator Agyeman-Rawlings, the daughter of the late Jerry John Rawlings. The incident occurred when Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed questioned the minority’s praise of JB Danquah, sparking a heated debate. As tensions rose, lawyer Andrew Asiamah intervened, restricting further contributions to only leadership.
Amid the chaos, an unidentified MP was heard saying, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down. But there’s evidence her father killed people,” justifying his inflammatory statement. The comment has since triggered widespread outrage online, with many sharing their opinions.
In a viral video, Kevin Taylor issued a stern warning to the majority (NDC) caucus, particularly targeting majority leader Mahama Ayariga. Taylor claimed that all NDC MPs seated in the front row, including Ayariga, witnessed the MP who made the statement. He demanded that the majority caucus release a statement identifying the MP, threatening to expose them if they failed to do so.
Taylor further argued that the majority caucus should not protect the individual responsible for the remark, warning that their silence would associate them with the act. “Prove to Ghanaians you were selected to protect the country,” he added, urging transparency and accountability.

Whether NDC likes it or not Julius Debrah has been chosen by God to lead the party after Mahama – Prophet Badu Kobi
Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff
The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Waves Church International, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, has prophesied that Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, will lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure in 2028.
Speaking to his congregation On Sunday, February 23, 2025, Prophet Badu Kobi declared that his prophecy was divinely inspired, and that Julius Debrah was chosen by God to lead the party in the future.
“God said I should say it today because he wants me to be the prophet ahead of time. NDC, God says I should tell you that the man divinely chosen to lead you after 2028, whether he likes it or not, is Julius Debrah.
“A certain man, short in stature, is ahead of him now, but Julius will overtake him. It is time for Julius to lead the party when the leadership position becomes vacant, so sayeth the Lord,” he stated.
Prophet Badu Kobi also predicted Ghana’s political landscape.
He suggested that the era of presidents serving two terms should be amended.
He proposed a shift towards a single-term presidency lasting either five or six years.
“Ghana, listen to Badu Kobi. The time for presidents to serve two terms is over. We don’t need two-term presidents again; we need a one-term presidency, either five or six years.
“Our problem has always been the next elections because they have to steal money for elections,” he remarked.

From exclusion to access: How Telecel Healthfest is redefining healthcare in rural Ghana
For years, Kyei, a farmer from Bakokurom, a small town near Sefwi Bekwai, saw healthcare as a luxury he simply couldn’t afford. With three children under his care, even enrolling his family unto the Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) felt out of reach.
“Every time one of them fell sick, I’d pray it wasn’t serious enough for a hospital visit,” he admitted.
But on Wednesday, February 19th, 2024, Kyei’s story and those of hundreds of others in Sefwi Bekwai took a transformative turn. At Healthfest, a day-long medical outreach by the Telecel Ghana Foundation, he stood in line not as a man burdened by exclusion, but as a father stepping into a new reality of access. By the end of the day, his children were among 359 individuals registered onto the NHIS at no cost, a milestone that symbolized more than just paperwork. For Kyei, it meant easier access to healthcare.
“This is the first time I’ve ever enrolled my family in NHIS,” he said, clutching his registration card. “Now, when my children cough at night, I won’t panic.”
A partnership between Telecel Ghana Foundation, Ghana Health Service and the Divine Mother & Child Foundation (DMAC), Healthfest has long been a lifeline for underserved communities. But in Sefwi Bekwai, the event exposed a deeper truth: for many rural Ghanaians, healthcare isn’t just about affordability, it’s about proximity, trust, and breaking cycles of neglect.
The impact was undeniable as over 500 residents received free screenings for hypertension, diabetes, malaria, typhoid, and hepatitis B. Vital signs were checked, medications were dispensed, and consultations were provided. Yet behind the statistics were faces like Margaret Yankey’s, a mother who had endured months of untreated malaria. “I kept telling myself, ‘It’ll pass,’” she said. “But today, I finally got answers and free treatment. No more guessing.”
The event’s success hinged on the dedication of healthcare professionals like Rebecca Nkrumah, a physician assistant from St. John of God Hospital, who diagnosed multiple cases of hypertension and diabetes, conditions many patients didn’t realise they had. “In rural areas, people normalize symptoms until it’s too late,” she explained. “Here, we’re not just treating; we’re rewriting narratives of what healthcare should be.”
Midwife Amanda Owusu Serwaa from Greenshield Hospital echoed this, stressing the importance of maternal care in regions with scarce resources. “When a woman walks miles to reach a clinic, only to be turned away by costs, it’s a systemic failure, and the Telecel Healthfest bridges that gap.”
For Telecel Ghana Foundation, the collaboration with the Divine Mother & Child Foundation since 2014 has been a lesson in sustainability. “Healthfest is a testament to what’s possible when partnerships drive meaningful change. By combining DMAC’s grassroots reach with Telecel Ghana Foundation’s commitment, we are creating a future where healthcare is accessible to all,” said Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Telecel Ghana Foundation, Sustainability & External Communications.
What makes Healthfest revolutionary isn’t just its scale, but its philosophy: healthcare as a right, not a privilege. By coupling NHIS registrations with immediate care, the Telecel Ghana Foundation addresses both urgent and systemic needs. For Kyei, it meant securing his children’s future. For Margaret, it meant reclaiming her health.
Since 2014, Telecel Ghana Foundation has used Healthfest to confront a harsh reality; rural communities often exist in healthcare “blind spots,” where cost, distance, and lack of reliable services create barriers. By bridging these gaps with both immediate interventions and long-term solutions, Telecel is proving that healthcare is not just about treatment, rather it is about transformation.

What John Dumelo said about taking over the NDC’s flagbearer position after Mahama’s tenure
John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister-designate of Food and Agriculture
John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister-designate of Food and Agriculture, has hinted that if it is God’s will for him to become president, he will consider the opportunity in the future.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Vetting Committee on February 25, 2025, the actor-turned-politician was questioned by Alexander Afenyo-Markin about whether he aspires to ascend to the presidency should there be a vacancy in 2028, following the tenure of President John Dramani Mahama.
In response, John Dumelo acknowledged his ambition to rise in politics but emphasized that there are senior members ahead of him for such roles. He humorously suggested that he might consider the position in 2054 or 2064.
“Mr. Chairman, there are many seniors ahead of me. However, if it is the will of God… Everyone who enters politics aspires to reach the top. So, if it is God’s will for me to get there in 2054 or 2064, I will wait,” Dumelo stated.
The Deputy Minister-designate also expressed his desire to inspire Ghanaians to pursue their dreams and excel in their chosen careers.
“I want to inspire people to follow their passion, pursue their goals, and do so with excellence,” he added.

Chief of Denkyira Agyampoma courts government, NGOs support to address community challenges
Nana Kwame Adunya III, Chief of Agyampoma (L)
Nana Kwame Adunya III, Chief of Agyampoma, has made a passionate appeal to the government, NGOs, and other stakeholders to support the development of his community.
The community located in the Upper Denkyira East of the Central Region, faces numerous challenges that hinder its growth and the well-being of its people.
The community with a population of about 1,000 needs basic infrastructure, including modern healthcare facilities, good roads, and access to clean drinking water.
The lack of these essential services has created desperation among community members, with the most pressing concern being the difficulty in accessing medical care, particularly for pregnant women due to the poor nature of the road.
The residents are often forced to carry expectant mothers on wooden boards to receive medical attention.
This is not only a harrowing experience for the women but also poses a significant risk to their health and that of their babies.
Farmers in the community also face significant challenges in transporting their produce to market centres, resulting in post-harvest losses and subsequent economic hardship.
Also, lack of network coverage further exacerbates the situation, making it difficult for residents to communicate with loved ones and access essential services.
Daniel Azumah, the assembly member for Denkyira Agyampoma and Dansokurom electoral area, has been pushing their concerns at the Assembly for redress but to no avail.
He had also added his voice to the Chiefs for the government and other stakeholders to provide support to enable his electoral area to access essential services like healthcare, clean water, and decent roads.
“It is imperative that the government, NGOs, and other stakeholders respond to our appeal and work together to address the pressing challenges faced by Denkyira Agyampoma.
“By doing so, our community will soon thrive and reach its full potential for the benefits of all,” Mr Azumah added.
We’ll tackle high NPLs, strengthen banking sector – BoG Governor
Newly sworn-in Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has vowed to address the persistent challenge of high non-performing loans (NPLs) in the country’s banking sector as part of a broader strategy to enhance financial stability and economic growth.
Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday February 25, 2025, Dr. Asiama stressed the need for targeted reforms to strengthen the resilience of banks and improve their ability to support economic activities.
“While our banking sector remains broadly stable after the recent crises, it requires targeted reforms to address legacy challenges and ensure continued resilience,” he stated.
Among the key measures outlined by the Governor is the enforcement of stricter prudential regulations to curb weak risk management practices in the industry. According to him, addressing the high levels of NPLs will be a priority under his leadership.
“Under my stewardship, we shall enforce strict prudential regulations while fostering an enabling environment for responsible lending and innovation in the banking sector. We shall tackle the problem of high non-performing loans (NPLs) and weak risk management practices in the industry,” Dr. Asiama affirmed.
The Governor also highlighted other key initiatives aimed at strengthening the financial sector. These include working closely with banks to minimize cybersecurity breaches, reinforcing capital adequacy requirements, and updating the Banks and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930) to enhance the framework for managing distressed institutions.
” We shall work closely with banks to reduce the high incidence of cybersecurity breaches and strengthen capital adequacy requirements, update the Banks and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930) which was passed during your tenure in 2016, to enhance our resolution framework, and ensure that distressed institutions are effectively managed while maintaining financial stability,”he noted.
Dr. Asiama further stressed the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, including banks, financial institutions, technology partners, businesses, and regulators, to build a robust financial system that benefits all Ghanaians.
“We shall work with all stakeholders – including banks, financial institutions, technology partners, businesses, and regulators – to ensure that every Ghanaian; from traders to entrepreneurs, benefit from a financial system that is modern, fair, and built to last,”he assured.
His commitment to tackling non-performing loans and enhancing regulatory oversight comes at a critical time when the banking sector is navigating post-crisis challenges. The reforms are expected to bolster investor confidence and create a more resilient financial system capable of driving sustainable economic growth.
BoG Governor Asiama will put economy on path of sustained growth – Mahama
President John Mahama has expressed confidence in Dr Johnson Pandit Kwesi Asiama’s ability to put Ghana’s economy on a path of sustained growth.
The President gave the assurance on Tuesday when he formally swore in Dr Asiama as Governor and Dr Zakari Mumuni as First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank at the seat of Government in Accra.
The President noted that the appointments were not merely routine exercises to satisfy Article 183(4) of the Constitution, but they constituted a deliberate commitment to the Bank of Ghana’s core mandate, outlined under Article 183(1-3)—to regulate currency, ensure monetary stability, and promote sustainable economic development in Ghana.
It is in full adherence to section 17(1) of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), that these appointments uphold the legal stipulation that the Governor and Deputy Governors of the Bank of Ghana be individuals of demonstrable financial and banking experience.
The President said to this effect, the choice of Dr Asiama and Dr Mumuni as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively, was a deliberate affirmation of their unshakable commitment to professionalism, integrity and proven competence as the sole criteria for high office.
He said a distinguished economist with a PhD from the University of Southampton, Dr Asiama’s ascent to this office was a natural progression from his long and dedicated service to the Bank of Ghana.
President Mahama said with over two decades at the institution—rising through the ranks from banking supervision and financial markets to leading research and policy implementation—Dr Asiama had played a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s monetary policy and our efforts for financial stability.
He said as Deputy Governor, Dr Asiama was instrumental in controlling inflation, stabilizing the currency, and strengthening regulatory oversight.
He said Dr Asiama’s deep expertise in banking supervision, risk management, and digital finance positions him as the right leader at this critical time.
President Mahama said Ghana’s financial sector was in crisis, and the task ahead demanded experience, foresight, and decisive leadership.
“With Dr Asiama heading the Bank of Ghana, I am confident that we will rebuild trust, restore stability, and put our economy on a path of sustained growth,” he said.
“I entrust him with this responsibility, knowing he will serve with diligence and excellence.”
The President said Dr Mumuni’s appointment as First Deputy Governor was a recognition of his exceptional expertise, dedication, and distinguished service in banking, financial markets, and economic policy.
He said Dr Mumuni also had over two decades of experience at the Bank of Ghana, playing vital roles in shaping monetary policy and strengthening financial stability.
His academic credentials, including a PhD from the University of Nottingham and an MPhil from the University of Ghana, reflect his deep understanding of the complexities of our economy.
President Mahama said as First Deputy Governor, he would be a key pillar in supporting the Governor to implement sound policies, reinforce regulatory oversight, and navigate the challenges ahead.
He said Dr Mumuni’s experience and analytical rigour would be crucial in ensuring that the Bank remains steadfast in its mandate to maintain price stability, safeguard the financial sector, and drive sustainable growth.
He said together, Dr Asiama and Dr Mumuni bring the leadership, expertise, and vision needed to restore confidence in our economy.
“To you, Mr Governor and Deputy Governor, in discharging your mandate, you must go beyond mere technical considerations and act in full recognition that every statistic, every movement on a chart, and every shift in an index is more than just data—it is the pulse of an economy, a measure of resilience or distress,” the President said.
He said a dip in confidence indices might signal businesses on a brink, evolving market conditions, or changing household prospects.
President Mahama said behind these numbers were real human stories—dreams either nurtured or shattered—demanding not just your highly extolled analytical expertise, but empathy and foresight that acknowledge the profound human consequences of every decision.
“Our recent banking history has shown us the cost of neglecting this truth,” President Mahama said.
He said during the supposed banking sector cleanup exercise; thousands of jobs were lost and lives disrupted because decisions were made with a narrow focus rather than considerations of the human impact.
He noted that the Bank of Ghana had the opportunity to salvage some institutions, to protect livelihoods while ensuring stability, but instead, an approach that ignored human consequences prevailed.
“The test of your patriotism in this solemn duty of economic governance lies in learning from these missteps—recognizing that policies must not only enforce regulations but also safeguard the futures that depend on them,” he said.
On his part, Dr Asiama expressed gratitude to the President and the Council of State for the confidence reposed in them.
He said the reset path the nation had embarked on was more than mere sloganeering; declaring that it was about restoring public trust, rebuilding confidence, and ensuring that Ghana’s economy was stable, innovative and ready for the future.
“Through responsible financial sector governance, digital transformation, and sound economic policies, we will create an economic and financial system that is transparent, predictable, and stable,” Dr Asiama said.
“Businesses will have the confidence to plan, and individuals will have access to a secure financial system that fosters growth and opportunity.”

We will reverse BoG’s negative equity
Dr. Johnson Asiama, the newly sworn-in Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), has outlined plans to reverse the Central Bank’s negative equity position following recent financial losses.
Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Dr. Asiama stressed that restoring the Bank’s financial health is critical to maintaining stability, credibility, and public trust.
“My sixth and last priority area is the need to reverse the Bank of Ghana’s negative equity position or the losses that have been incurred in recent years all to maintain financial stability, maintain the institution’s credibility, and restore public trust,” Dr. Asiama stated.
The Bank of Ghana recorded significant losses in recent years, largely due to debt restructuring measures and broader economic challenges. The Governor underscored the urgency of addressing this situation through a combination of cost-cutting measures and strategic financial policies.
“In this vein, we will seek to re-examine the Bank’s non-core operations and I must say that some of these have started already in the last two weeks where savings could be made. We shall adopt several austere measures to help reduce the Bank’s operational costs and achieve cost efficiency,” he explained.
As part of the efforts to restore the BoG’s financial position, Dr. Asiama revealed that clear policies would be put in place to ensure a structured return to positive equity in the medium term.
“We will craft very clear policies to return the Bank of Ghana’s negative equity to positive equity in the medium term,” he assured.
The Bank of Ghana, in its 2022 Published Annual Report and Financial Statements, reported a loss of GHC 60.8 billion largely attributed to the impact of the domestic debt exchange programme, which significantly impaired the bank’s balance sheet.
This development has raised concerns among economic stakeholders about its potential long-term impact on the economy
The BoG has severally defended its position, stating that despite the losses, it remains solvent and capable of performing its mandate. Former Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison also indicated that the bank’s financial position will improve as economic conditions stabilize.
Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister-designate Thomas Nyarko Ampem during his vetting has ruled out using public funds to recapitalize the Bank of Ghana.
Ghana’s household spending to hit GH¢129.7bn in 2025 – Fitch
Ghana’s real household expenditure is expected to grow by 2.5% year-on-year in 2025, following a modest 1.1% increase in 2024.
According to Fitch Solutions, this rise will push total household spending to GH¢129.7 billion—a 25.4% increase from the GH¢103.4 billion recorded in 2019 before the pandemic.
The UK-based research firm attributed the projected expansion to easing inflation and improved cedi stability in 2025, creating room for a more accommodative monetary stance from the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
“We will see an improvement in Ghanaian household spending over 2025, as households rally from elevated inflation and cedi weakness. Following the presidential elections in December 2024, consumer activity is already beginning to rebound, and with cooler levels of price growth, greater cedi stability, and a dovish approach from the Bank of Ghana, households will see a marked uptick in purchasing power and will support a rebound in both essential and discretionary segments,” Fitch Solutions stated.
In December 2024, mobile money transaction volumes hit an all-time high of GH¢745.0 million, up from GH¢678.8 million in July 2024. This surge highlights increasing consumer activity, particularly following the December 2024 presidential elections.
“While inflation remains a key driver of the growth of the value of mobile money transactions, the rate of growth is considerably above the level of inflation and is therefore pointing to a consumer recovery story, which is reflecting in strong spending growth figures over H2 [second half] 2024 and into 2025,” Fitch Solutions noted.
The firm concluded that lower inflation in 2025 will further stimulate spending and transaction volumes while also benefiting from reduced debt servicing costs.

Ghanaian traders urged to comply as Burkina Faso bans cereal and bean exports
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has alerted Ghanaian traders and businesses to Burkina Faso’s continued ban on the export of cereals and white beans, urging full compliance to avoid sanctions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 25, the Ministry cited official communications from Burkina Faso – joint communiqués No. 023-0017 dated December 19, 2023, and No. 024-0017 dated November 13, 2024 – reiterating the ban on the export of key staples including rice, millet, maize, sorghum, and cowpeas.
The restriction aims to safeguard Burkina Faso’s domestic food security amid regional concerns over grain shortages and rising prices.
“Ghanaian traders and businesses involved in importing these commodities from Burkina Faso are advised to take note of this directive and comply accordingly to avoid any sanctions or confiscation of goods,” the Ministry’s statement highlighted.
Burkina Faso initially announced the export restrictions in December 2023, citing concerns over food sufficiency amid challenging climatic conditions affecting agricultural output.
The ban has since been extended, as reaffirmed by the November 2024 communique, highlighting the country’s determination to stabilize local food supplies.
Ghana, a significant importer of cereals from its northern neighbour, could face short-term supply disruptions and potential price hikes in local markets as a result of the ban.
Market analysts warn that the restriction could have ripple effects on Ghana’s food security, particularly for industries reliant on imported grains and beans.
Local traders, especially those operating along the border regions, have been urged to seek alternative sources or adjust supply chains to mitigate the impact.
“We understand the implications for Ghanaian businesses, but compliance is crucial to maintaining smooth bilateral trade relations,” the Ministry added.
The Foreign Ministry further encouraged affected stakeholders to stay updated on developments and liaise with relevant authorities for guidance.
Ghana’s diplomatic missions in Ouagadougou and border agencies are expected to monitor the situation closely and assist traders where necessary.
With the agricultural sector facing increasing challenges across West Africa, regional cooperation and contingency planning are becoming more critical.
The Ministry reassured the public that it will continue to engage with its Burkinabe counterparts to explore possible solutions that minimise economic disruptions while respecting Burkina Faso’s domestic priorities.
For now, Ghanaian importers are advised to exercise caution, adhere to trade regulations, and explore alternative sourcing options to ensure steady supply and price stability of these essential commodities.

Communications minister turning into an Idi Amin – Hassan Tampuli
Hassan Tampuli [L] and Sam George
Member of Parliament for Gushegu Constituency in the Northern Region, Hassan Tampuli has expressed concerns over the posturing of the Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations minister in office.
According to him, Sam Nartey George is fast becoming an Idi Amin in the office he is occupying and needs to be checked.
His comments come on the back of the recent closure of radio stations, dismissal of staff, and calls on directors to resubmit their CVs.
To Hassan Tampuli, the actions of the minister must be checked, as he is doing more than he has been mandated to do.
“What the Minister is doing is to probably later on request that every promotion that will take place at NCA must be brought to the Minister for him to authorize before. Even staff salaries would have to be sent to the minister for him to pay. Mr Speaker, it looks like we have an Iddi Amin in the making.
This house will not watch for an Idi Amin to emerge at the Ministry of Communication. We are sending a signal to the Minister of Communications to relax; the exuberance is getting too much,” he said while addressing Parliament.
However, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga explained that the Communications minister cannot be likened to a dictator, but Hassan Tampuli insisted that he had not mentioned him being a dictator but rather they look alike in terms of body size.

World soccer governing body, FIFA, launched on Tuesday February 25, 2025, the first ever FIFA Talent Academy in Africa in Nouakchott, Mauritania, towards unearthing of talents and development of the game in the country.
The academy, situated at the headquarters of the Mauritania Football Federation (FFRIM), underlines Mauritania’s pioneering efforts and status in global football as well as being a prime example of an institution that has gone from strength to strength under the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS).
The TDS, led by FIFA Chief of Global Football Development Arsene Wenger, was launched in 2022 with the aim of helping MA’s to fulfill their potential by ensuring that every talented player has a chance to be detected and developed. It also seeks to enforce measures taken to reduce the disparity in the level of football between different regions of the world.
At a well-attended event graced by the presence of senior FIFA and CAF officials, including FIFA Chief Football Officer, Jill Ellis, FIFA Director of Global Football Development, Steven Martens, FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer and Regional Director Africa, Gelson Fernandes, CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba and over 30 Africa MA presidents, Mauritania thus become the first MA on the continent to receive the prestigious FIFA Talent Academy certification, in recognition of the outstanding work by FFRIM as far as meeting the established criteria is concerned.
FIFA President, Gianni Infantino said: “This is a great day for football in Mauritania, a country passionate about our beautiful game which is making tremendous strides to grow and develop the sport each day. The opening of the FIFA Talent Academy in Mauritania is a hugely significant moment for young players in this country”
“The ultimate objectives of FIFA Talent Academies are to develop young players by providing them with the highest levels of training, education and development to help them reach their full potential, contributing to the overall growth of football in the country,” added FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, Arsene Wenger.
The objective of the FIFA Talent Academy amongst others is to develop the best players, act as a role model for the Federation and also create a sustainable football ecosystem towards establishing a long-term, structured pathway for talent development.
Till date, FIFA has 24 academies globally, a huge step towards the bigger plan of 75 elite FIFA Talent academies by the end of 2027. FIFA deploys dedicated talent coaches globally to establish academies with best-practice training environments for young players of all genders.
On his part, FFRIM President, Ahmed Yahya said: “Today is a historic moment for Mauritanian football. The opening of this FIFA Talent Academy here in Mauritania reflects FIFA’s confidence in our commitment to the development of football. This investment in training our young talents marks a decisive step towards a more ambitious future for our federation”
In a related development, FIFA also laid the foundation stone for extension works of the Cheikha Boidiya Stadium, a project funded thanks to the FIFA Forward Program.
With a current capacity of 8,000, the objective of the extension, courtesy FIFA with a budget of nearly $2.9 million USD, will increase the capacity to a 16,000-seater stadium to accommodate the growing number of football fans in Mauritania.
The stadium was previously upgraded in 2018, with the installation of seats, modernized changing rooms and a media room.
FIFA President Infantino said: “We hope this stadium will become of source of
inspiration for boys and girls from the FIFA Talent Academy who could one day wear
proudly the national team jersey. This project is a crucial step in improving football
infrastructure and fostering the sport’s continued development in Mauritania and it is exactly the type of project we envisaged when the FIFA Forward Programme was
introduced in 2016.”
“Today marks a milestone in the journey ofMauritanian football—a true celebration of the nation’s passion for the game. Thanks to the FIFA Forward program, we have officially launched the renovation of the Cheikha Boidiya Stadium, expanding its capacity to 16,000 seats. This key infrastructure project is a testament to
FIFA’s commitment to the growth and development of football in Mauritania. We are
proud to stand alongside the Mauritanian Football Federation in shaping a bright future for the sport in the country,” added FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations officer, Regional Director Africa, Gelson Fernandes.
The FIFA Forward is the largest and biggest sport development programme in the world. It was created in 2016 to redistribute FIFA’s revenues equally the among 211 MAs.
The five main areas where funds are used include Infrastructure, Capacity building, Competitions, National teams and subventions as well as specific projects depending on the needs of the respective MA.
In line with its strategy to make football truly global, by the end of 2026 FIFA will have invested a record-breaking figure of USD 5 billion in football.
Nana Bonya Kofi elected Acting President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council
Nana Bonya Kofi elected Acting President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council
The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council has elected Nana Bonya Kofi VI, Senior Divisional Chief of Basake, as the Acting President of the Council.
A Standing Committee of the Council, in a press release to the Ghana News Agency signed by four Senior Divisional Chiefs, said the decision was taken in view of the “bitter feuding that has occurred between Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III and his family over a year or so.”
The release said it was also necessitated by the resultant violence that had “marred the peace and security within the Council,” and “the socio-eco-political consequences within the Eastern Nzema as a whole, and the inability to respond effectively or positively to investment demands.”
It said it took into consideration the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (ACT 759), paragraph 15, clauses 1,2, and 3, in reaching that decision and expressed the hope that the move would restore normalcy in the Council and ensured that peace prevailed in the area for rapid growth.
The release appealed to the authorities to ensure the return of the Registrar for the traditional council following the election of an Acting President to provide administrative support to the “interim management to succeed in this rebuilding efforts”.
Gov’t not interested in witch-hunting, wild goose chase
Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior
Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, says the Government is not interested in witch-hunting and going on a wild goose chase in dealing with corruption.
Mubarak, responding to the Comptroller General’s speech claiming his reputation was being tarnished in the electronic media space for alleged malfeasance in the purchase of a bus, guaranteed that the government would only investigate such cases when necessary or was evidence-based.
The Minister made this statement when he paid a maiden visit to the Headquarters of the Ghana Immigration Service in Accra.
“I can assure you that we are not interested in witch-hunting. We will only go into things where we find that they need to be investigated. We don’t have time to waste on things that may not be necessary…If you have anything that you think would be of importance to us, please come forward with facts so that we will be able to investigate whatever it is,” he said.
The Minister mentioned plans to improve the efficiency and operations of the various security services under his ministry despite, funding challenges.
These included going into public-private partnerships for both profit and non-profit ventures without external interference in security matters, adoption of the cashless system, among other interventions to improve efficiency and minimise corruption.
“So, we will be seeing a lot more PPP within the Ministry of the Interior where it is very necessary, making sure that, those PPPs do not interfere with our internal security…
Technology is also going to be another area that we are going to pursue very vigorously…I can assure you that one of my main targets would be that in the next one year, none of the services under the Ministry will be collecting hard cash. We want to use technology to improve almost everything that we are doing within the Ministry,” he added.
Kwame Asuah Takyi, the Comptroller-General, Ghana Immigration Service, on his part, highlighted the challenges of the service and pleaded with the new minister to intervene.
“Notwithstanding the gain made over the years, a number of challenges continue to hinder the operational efficiency of the service, and we look forward under your leadership, Honourable Minister to advance our efforts in the coming years,” he said.
‘Ear theory’ is the secret to youthful hair – A-listers love it and anyone can copy it
If we told you there was a simple anti-ageing hair trick that’s used by A-listers everywhere and takes seconds to do yourself, you’d be all ears, right? Good – because ‘ear’ is the key word to this brilliant beauty hack, and once we’ve shared the secret, you won’t be able to unsee it.
Let us introduce you to ‘ear theory’, a simple trick that’s employed by stars at every glitzy red carpet event. Best of all, it works for every hair type, and on every age and face shape.
‘The ears are the ornaments of youth,’ explains Gustav Fouche, London hairdresser to the elite and founder of Fabulosity haircare. ‘It’s something that all celebrities know, and the reason why you’ll see so many A-listers displaying their ears on the red carpet. An elegant updo is one way, of course, but there’s a much quicker and easier trick. Simply tucking a piece of hair behind one ear instantly makes a woman look younger because it opens up the face and shows off the cheekbones by drawing the eye to that area.’
Michelle Yeoh keeps her hair look youthful AND ensures the world sees her jewellery
‘Showing off one ear elongates the neck and it instantly makes hair modern,’ Gustav adds. ‘I can do a big, glamorous blowdry but then I’ll tuck a piece behind an ear to finish the look. It’s a simple yet very effective hair trick to make you look younger.’
When you’re choosing which ear to display, think about which side will work best with your hairstyle. It only takes a second to do an experimental tuck to compare. Also, consider if you have a side of your face you think is more photogenic than the other (most of us have a ‘good side’ when we look at photos). Tucking hair on the ‘good’ side will help to draw attention to your favoured half by opening up that part of the face.

This tip is especially useful if you have medium or long hair worn in a centre parting, as the simple act of tucking a piece of hair back will immediately stop your style falling flat around your face and dragging it downwards – something that can be ageing in itself.
‘I do advise older women to go for layered hairstyles to infuse hair with vitality and movement, instantly granting a much more youthful look,’ says Gustav. ‘Choose a style that frames your face, highlighting your best features and creating a flattering silhouette.’ This will make the ‘ear theory’ trick even more effective.
If you want to see just how well this hack works in reality, this year’s SAG Awards delivered a red carpet masterclass. Forget the Golden Globes, this was the Golden Lobes…
Celebrities who love ‘ear theory’
Demi Moore
Is there anything Demi can’t ace right now? Not only is she having the career renaissance to end all career renaissances, her ear is a strong contender in any ‘best supporting role’ category.
Pamela Anderson
The makeup remained minimalist, but Pammy’s hair spoke of Monroe-esque classic Hollywood glamour, with a cheeky little tuck to add a modern edge.
Selena Gomez
We don’t know what’s shinier and lovelier: the red lipstick or the glossy, artfully nudged back bob.
Elle Fanning
Consider the difference a simple tuck makes, emphasising the bouncy, rounded shape of Elle’s bob but also allowing her hair to show off her cheekbones. Elle doesn’t even need earrings to pull this off.
Leighton Meester
A double hair win for Leighton: a new, on-trend coppery colour and a great example of ear placement.
Michelle Yeoh
Strong lobe work from Michelle with that statement earring peeking out from her bouncy blowdry.
Gillian Anderson
Ear theory can work even with an updo, as long as you’ve got a peekaboo strand like Gillian’s.
Osu Kingmakers disclaim purported endorsement of Adumuah as Korley Klottey Assembly rep
The Osu Kinkawe Dzaase, a recognized traditional authority in Osu, has rejected media reports claiming Ishmael Adumuah was endorsed as the traditional representative for the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly.
The Dzaase issued a press release to address what it described as misleading publications attributed to an entity called the Osu Stool Council.
“We wish to debunk and condemn some publications in sections of the media in which reference is made to Osu Stool Council as having endorsed one Ishmael Adumuah as the Traditional Representative for the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly,” the statement read.
The Dzaase argued that no such body as the Osu Stool Council holds legitimacy, pointing instead to the Osu Traditional Council, established under the Chieftaincy Act, and the Osu Stool, comprising the four quarters of Kinkawe, Ashante, Anorhor, and Alata, as the valid traditional entities.
They urged the public to dismiss any claims originating from the so-called Osu Stool Council.
The statement suggested Bernard Botchway, who claims the title Nortse Ni Nortey Owuo IV and styles himself as Osu Mantse on social media, might be behind the disputed reports.
“We have cause to suspect that one gentleman who goes by the name, Bernard Botchway is behind those publications (if indeed the statement was from the so-called Osu Stool Council) because he claims to be the President of the Osu Stool Council on social media pages associated with him,” the Dzaase stated.
Botchway’s actions according to the Dzaase have faced legal challenges, with the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs restraining him from presenting himself as Osu Mantse. The Dzaase also linked Botchway to Ishmael Adumuah, the dismissed Oshiahene of Osu, alleging Adumuah supported Botchway’s claim to the Osu Mantse title. Adumuah’s own standing the Dzaase noted has been undermined by court rulings, including a 2023 High Court decision dismissing his bid to be recognized as Osu’s Regent and affirming his prior suspension as Oshiahene by Dzaasetse Ni Saban Atsen VII.
On the matter of the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly, the Dzaase emphasized that Adumuah, who was not a gazetted chief even before his dismissal, lacks their endorsement. They have instead nominated two gazetted chiefs for the role and appealed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to honor their selection.
“The Dzaase has nominated two gazetted Chiefs to be considered as representatives of the traditional authorities on the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly, and we wish to appeal to the NDC to respect our wishes and choices,” the statement declared.
Signed by key Dzaase members, including the Dzaasetse and heads of various family lineages, the release concluded by cautioning media, government officials, and the public against engaging with Botchway or Adumuah on Osu Stool matters, highlighting ongoing tensions over traditional leadership and representation.

Communications minister Sam George becoming like Idi Amin – Hassan Tampuli
Hassan Tampuli, MP for Gushegu

Let’s work together to enhance maritime safety – Transport Minister urges GMA
The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has urged the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) to work closely with the Ministry to ensure the safety of Ghana’s maritime space for business to thrive.
He assured the Authority of the government’s support to enforce maritime laws, improve security and enhance regulatory compliance to attract more shipping lines and increase economic opportunities for the country.
“We’ll be with you to tackle and handle the challenges and to see how we can make Ghana’s Maritime Authority one of the best in the world,” he said.
“The legislation is there. All that’s left with is how to enforce, inspect and ensure that our marine sector is safe.”
Mr Nikpe was on a working visit to the GMA in Accra, which provided the opportunity for discussions on legislative improvements, enforcement strategies, and infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening Ghana’s maritime sector.
He highlighted the critical role of the maritime industry in global trade, with over 80 per cent of the world’s merchandise being transported by sea.
Ghana’s strategic position in the sub-region provided a significant opportunity to boost its maritime economy if the necessary structures were strengthened, he noted.
Mr Nikpe said Ghana’s coastal road networks were increasingly congested, making it necessary to improve inland water transport as an alternative means of transportation.
“Our coastal line is choked when it comes to traffic, meaning that we have to take some of the traffic off the roads to our waters. If they are not safe, I am not sure we will be able to do that.”
Despite the economic challenges inherited by the current administration, the Government remained committed to creating jobs and expanding opportunities, with the GMA playing a crucial role in that vision, the Minister said.
He acknowledged the challenges facing the GMA, including inadequate funding for key projects and the need to enhance enforcement mechanisms.
He assured the Authority of the Ministry’s support in addressing those issues, particularly in maritime pollution, inland waterway safety and infrastructure development.
Mr Nikpe encouraged the staff to support their new Director-General in achieving the Authority’s mandate.
Dr Kamal-Deen Ali, the Director-General, GMA, expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s maritime sector.
He said the GMA was working on several initiatives to boost employment, including the Crew and Maritime Jobs Creation Drive, aimed at increasing job opportunities for Ghanaian seafarers.
The Director-General said the GMA was in the process of upgrading its maritime surveillance systems to enhance security and monitoring within Ghana’s territorial waters.
The new technology, he indicated, would allow the Authority to effectively monitor up to 200 nautical miles within Ghana’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Dr Ali said Ghana was globally recognised for its efforts in protecting the marine environment and pledged the Authority’s continuous enforcement of strict environmental regulations to sustain the gains made.
As part of the visit, Captain Inusa Abdul Nasir, Director of Technical, GMA, made a presentation highlighting the Authority’s mandate and key initiatives.
The GMA was established by the Ghana Maritime Authority Act, 2002 (Act 630), with the responsibility of coordinating, regulating, and monitoring activities in the maritime industry.
Captain Inusa emphasised the need for Ghana to formulate and enforce maritime laws that aligned with global standards to maintain its position on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) whitelist.
He touched on the Authority’s efforts to promote employment for Ghanaian seafarers through agreements with major flag states.
“We have signed MoUs with major flag states for recognition of the Ghanian seafarer’s certificate. Through our efforts, Ghana was put on the whitelist of the IMO, which means that our certificates are capable to be used for special purposes,”he said.
“Ghanian seafarers can now access jobs on ships of major flags.”
Captain Inusa highlighted the job creation potential of ship recycling, noting Ghana’s ratification of ahe Hong Kong Convention, which promotes the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships.
He said the GMA, in collaboration with the Ghana Navy and Marine Police, conducted regular patrols to combat illicit activities such as piracy and illegal fishing.

Ghana and the European Union
Ghana welcomes the latest delivery of advanced military equipment from the European Union. The deliveries bolster Ghana’s capacity to safeguard its people from security threats, and positively impact the sub-region. The equipment also sends an important political signal and partnership offer to the new administration, in recognition of Ghana’s stability and confirmed democratic credentials.
The European Union and Ghana have a lot in common. They both face conflict at their doorstep, and are both committed to building bridges in the face of shared challenges like international terrorism, global pandemics, or climate change. To the European Union, Ghana constitutes a preferred political partner and ally that has consistently championed multilaterism, the rule of law, and peace through regional integration.
Ghana: Anchor of Democracy and Stability
Ghana’s peaceful transfer of power in December and January presented an important lesson not just to West-Africa, but to the world over. In a region grappling with political turbulence, and a world where power balances are rapidly shifting, Ghana remains an appealing partner to European friends devoted to peace, mutual respect, and human rights.
Ghana is a self-confident and respected international partner. Its contribution to peacekeeping, dialogue and regional integration underscores its commitment to international order. That is why the European Union views Ghana not just as an economic or trade partner, or a recipient of development aid, but as a true ally in a turbulent world.
Protecting Stability, Investing in Peace
The advanced military equipment, worth over GHS 800M, is part of a broader GHS 10B EU commitment to strengthen peace and security across the Gulf of Guinea. Recently, the EU delivered 105 militarised vehicles, 20 motorbikes and 150 radio-communication devices, with additional equipment arriving later in 2025. EU support to Ghana’s security transcends hardware. Well over 30 programs contribute to training, border security, maritime security and mediation support, empowering Ghana’s conflict prevention capabilities, and advancing the human security of its people.
Through one of the projects (NORPREVSEC), the EU conducted 34 training sessions with 1,400 personnel from all the security agencies in the five regions of northern Ghana. The EU provided trainings on conflict prevention and risks of radicalisation to 625 paramount chiefs and queen mothers, and 140 youth. Crucially, this aligns with the EU’s philosophy of backing “African solutions to African problems.”
Lasting peace requires more than arms. It demands addressing root causes of conflict: inequalities, unemployment, and distrust. In northern Ghana, the EU is investing GHS 3.5B (€220M) to improve public services, create jobs, and empower communities. These are just some of the targets covered by the EU Global Gateway, a strategy that realizes large-scale infrastructure projects through hundreds of sustainable and quality investment projects worldwide, each developed and supported by the EU and its Member States. In Ghana, Global Gateway boosts Ghana’s ambition to become a vaccine-manufacturing hub, and improves Ghana’s energy supply.
This holistic approach—blending security with diplomacy and development—reflects a shared belief that stability cannot be sustained without opportunity.
Empowering Youth, Building Tomorrow’s Economies
If security lays the groundwork for stability, Ghana’s youth will design its future. Over 60% of Ghana’s population is under 25—a demographic brimming with talent, ambition, and untapped potential. The EU routinely engages in dialogue with students, entrepreneurs, and young activists to shape the contours of the Ghana-EU partnership.
This is no one-off, but a long-term commitment to Ghana’s future generations. Over the past five years, more than 50,000 young Ghanaians have gained skills in agro-business, e-waste recycling, and renewable energy through EU programs, while 100,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have received support to scale innovations—from solar-powered taxis to sustainable cocoa processing.
Education exchange opportunities like Erasmus+ and other scholarships offered by EU Member States enable 1,000 Ghanaian students to study at Europe’s top universities every year, fostering bonds between future leaders. These investments are not charity or wasteful spending; they are strategic steps towards Ghana’s transformation and self-reliance, cultural exchange and future collaboration.
A Partnership of Equals – here to stay
The EU-Ghana partnership is rooted in mutual respect and shared ambition. From climate resilience to vaccine production, the EU-Ghana partnership is distinctively stable, and will not unwind anytime soon.
The EU is convinced that Africa’s future is inextricably linked to its own. Our message is clear, to President John Mahama, and to the vibrant people of Ghana: Europe stands with you, and is here to stay.

The Hundreds’ LA Store Closing Marks the End of An Era
18 years have gone by quicker than you can say “Adam Bomb.”
With The Hundreds’ recent announcement that it would close its store on Fairfax Avenue after a nearly two-decade run, two different chapters were concluded. The first to reach its end was that of The Hundreds’ retail presence. The brand has long been known for its immersive brick-and-mortar experiences, which, at their zenith, included — besides the Fairfax District store — hyper-localized outposts on both Post Street in San Fransisco (a design partly inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and encased in rock pulled from the very same quarry where the California gold rush began over a decade ago) and Grand Street in New York City (a space that saluted Soho’s heritage and continued the Space Odyssey theme from the Post Street store).
That’s not even mentioning the two different iterations of The Hundreds’ flagships around Fairfax, both pictured above. 7909 Rosewood, the brand’s first flagship, was tucked on a quiet, narrow side street between Fairfax and Rosewood Avenues, perfectly encapsulating streetwear’s IYKYK ethos when it opened in 2007. The second, a much larger establishment that served as a metaphor for the brand’s growth and deep Los Angeles roots, was around the corner at 501 Fairfax Avenue and featured an immersive installation inspired by the La Brea Tar Pits.
But the second conclusion — and what it represents — is the most bittersweet.
The Hundreds is the final OG Fairfax streetwear brand to close its doors for good.
At its peak from the mid-’00s through the 2010s, Fairfax — which replaced Melrose Avenue as LA’s most in-the-know shopping stretch when Supreme LA opened in 2003 — was one of the biggest streetwear hubs in the world, rivaled only by New York’s Lower East Side and Tokyo’s Harajuku neighborhood. The retailers on the street read like an all-star team: The Hundreds. Supreme. Diamond Supply Co. HUF. Crooks & Castles. In later days, Pink Dolphin and the Odd Future store. Now, if you stroll down the three-block stretch by Fairfax High School, you’ll find outfits like The Gold Gods, RIPNDIP, and Heaven by Marc Jacobs nestled amongst the area’s original Jewish businesses like Kanter’s Deli and a few OG holdouts like Flight Club and Hall of Fame.
“When we moved in, the only players [on Fairfax] at the time were Supreme and Reserve [a bookstore],” The Hundreds co-founder Bobby Hundreds said in a 2019 interview. “We felt like it could be where the future of LA was. We ended up moving in, and it turned into our clubhouse. Ben [Hundreds, The Hundreds co-founder] and I would work there, but people would just start hanging out in the afternoon. And then I would blog about it. We’d be playing music, smoking, drinking. We would just hang out there all day and all night.” What was initially used as an office space soon became The Hundreds’ first store after the brand made $100,000 USD (adjusted for inflation, approximately $157,000 USD in 2025) in one day with the release of their ultra-popular “Paisley” hoodie and reinvested the profits in its physical presence.
“All of a sudden, you had young kids of color moving onto the block and being loud, smoking a lot of weed out front, and just having fun building the next generation,” said Bobby Hundreds. “I used to throw a block party here every Labor Day. We would shut down Rosewood, break out a BBQ, and grill. We did that to bring the neighborhood together because even though we were all competitors, we understood that streetwear, as a market, was still very small. We were all the underdogs. So instead of working against each other, on this one day, we could all come together and show we supported each other.”
By the early 2010s, it was off to the races, with The Hundreds and Fairfax’s other brands drawing huge lines that would stretch to the end of the block. Streetwear lovers of all stripes came to visit: tourists from Tokyo, forum kids from Minnesota and celebrities including Jonah Hill and Morrissey to Kid Cudi and Drake. And it wasn’t just the goods that brought people to Fairfax either: it was an organic, community-focused vibe, the type that “big” brands twist themselves in knots trying to achieve in 2025. “Fairfax brands, especially The Hundreds, were a huge influence to us in Philly,” said Ky Cao, the co-founder of Philadelphia boutique P’s & Q’s, who’s stocked The Hundreds since 2009. “When we opened Abakus Takeout [the predecessor to P’s & Qs], those were the brands we wanted, and we felt like we made it when we got The Hundreds.”
Cao goes on to explain that it was more than just the graphics and goods — it was the familial vibe that permeated the block, as upon his first trip to Los Angeles the staff struck up a conversation and offered him a beer. “When I went to Fairfax for the first time, I was immediately welcomed,” he says. “I didn’t even mention that I owned a store and was looking to stock The Hundreds, and they still treated me that way. Since then, whenever I’d return, The Hundreds would always be the first store I visited.”
And the creative community that spawned on Fairfax and reached critical mass with the success of Odd Future influenced and impacted streetwear worldwide. Some of today’s biggest movers and shakers cut their teeth on Fairfax in the blog era, all of which was documented by The Hundreds as part of its long-running blog — meaning that even if you couldn’t make it to Fairfax you could still get an on-the-ground view of what was going on and see the talent that was bubbling. Fairfax “alumni” include Tyler, the Creator (who was once a Hypebeast forum member). Earl Sweatshirt. Josh Vides. Dom Kennedy. Sage Elsesser, a skater and model who also makes music under the moniker Navy Blue. “Fairfax was a hub, a neutral zone where people from all over the city and the world could connect” says Kacey Lynch, the founder of Bricks & Wood and a Los Angeles native (who, in a full-circle moment, collaborated with The Hundreds in 2019). “It just so happened that the friendship and the togetherness that was established there wound up setting the tone for culture currently.”
“Fairfax was the blueprint, and The Hundreds was the the store setting the tone. The clothing almost sold itself because of the environment they created and the people they brought to the block.”
Fairfax will eventually reinvent itself once again, as the only thing that’s a constant in a city the size of LA is change — and the ethos established on Fairfax can still be felt at a new crop of establishments like Brother Brother and Virgil Normal — but it’s hard to say that whatever Fairfax becomes next will have the seismic impact of the era that officially ended when The Hundreds closed its doors earlier in the month.
That’s not to say that the brand itself is a thing of the past, of course: it’s still carried at a global network of stockists and The Hundreds’ webstore, and The Hundreds Spring 2025 was released at the beginning of February.
“As one of the first ones in and the last ones out, we kept our promise to the block,” Bobby Hundreds said in a recent Instagram story. “To see this through, to finish what we started. And to give it everything we got.”
Just like the brand’s tagline says: The Hundreds is Huge. However, the world it helped build on Fairfax feels much smaller today.

The Lost Rhythm
Adowa Dancer
Adowa is a traditional dance in Ghana that serves as a sign of expression that allows performers to communicate their emotions and feeling. It is used during celebration and remembrance, honouring ancestors and commemorating important milestones in the Ghanaian society.
It is performed at cultural ceremonies like festivals, funerals, engagements, and celebrations. The dance is rooted in the traditions of the Akan people and is a cherished cultural expression that connects generations and preserves cultural heritage.
Adowa performances were created to celebrate royalty, and intended for individuals of royal blood. However, due to societal changes, these dances have become part of our cultural repertoire and are now performed at social functions.
The recent commercialization of the Adowa dance at public gatherings has raised public concern. This is particularly evident during funeral ceremonies, where dancers are seen engaging with prominent guests instead of expressing feelings of sorrow and mourning through their intricate hand and foot movements.
An example is when during events dancers sit on high caliber guests anticipating that, despite the discomfort, these individuals will reach into their pockets to provide something before the dancer finally gets up.
A typical example was at the final funeral rites of the late Leticia Amoa-Abban held on October 26, 2024, at the Tema Community B No.3 JHS School Park, where Kennedy Osei, eldest son of Dr Osei Kwame Despite, CEO of the Despite Group of Companies, was mobbed by these Adowa dancers seriously begging for money.
(check https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1ycj2eqofS/)
Under the post, you will come across despicable comments such as “Koo Bibini ne sika. As if they don’t eat. Shameful… left me alone 10 pesewas you will not get. 3kom B3ku wo” “This is despicable aren’t they paid for their service what’s dis.”
“Every occasion they heckled and embarrassed dignitaries, and those who hired them see nothing wrong! Me, if I hire you, I’ll ensure in the performance contract not to see you harassing my guests and making them uncomfortable all in the name of culture. In any case, must one be harassed under the cloak of gifting! Hmmmmm.”
“During my grand mum’s funeral, I warned both the live band and the Kete dancers to desist from these acts. They should remember that they have been paid.”
The National Commission on Culture condemn the practice.
The Deputy Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, Dr. Richardson CommeyFio emphatically states that this trend is unethical and unprofessional to say the least.
He mentions that the historical significance of these dances has not changed but due to a lack of formal training and internal capacity-building exercises among these groups, they are misbehaving, sending wrong signals to patrons.
“As a result, some performers may not adhere to the ethical standards expected in their practice. It’s important to remember that once contracted by an event organizer, a dancer’s primary duty is to deliver a performance that resonates with the audience,” he says.
“The trend of cultural practitioners begging for money from dignitaries at events is worrying and unacceptable. It’s undignified and creates inconvenience for the dignitaries. While it’s understandable that practitioners want to be appreciated, obstruction and begging are not the solutions,” he adds.
Dr. CommeyFio mentions that the behavior can lead to humiliation and disrespect from bodyguards and security personnel.
The National Commission on Culture (NCC) acknowledge the trend adding that it is taking steps to address the issue through public education and awareness programmes.
With its offices scattered across the regions and districts, the commission reveals that many cultural groups are affiliated to their regional and district offices, and they intend to provide periodic training to promote professionalism and cultural integrity to preserve the dignity of our cultural heritage and promote respect for cultural practitioners who uphold the highest standards.
“We’re committed to educating and training cultural practitioners through periodic engagements at our regional centers for national culture. These sessions cover essential protocols and trends to respect during events,” he adds.
Highlighting some challenges that may impede the progress of the sensitisation program, Dr. CommeyFio states that the commission faces a challenge as some groups operate independently, without affiliation to the Commission.
He was optimistic that the ongoing amendment of the National Commission on Culture law, will empower the Commission to manage and regulate cultural groups and artistic guilds nationwide.
Once passed, this law will provide a legal framework for the commission to oversee these groups and ensure they operate within established guidelines. “With this new authority, we’ll be able to address issues like unprofessional behavior and begging at events. Our goal is to promote a positive, respectful image of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage” he addes.

Akwatia MP prays Supreme Court to quash contempt of court against him
By Joyce Danso
Accra, Feb. 25, GNA- Ernest Yaw Kumi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia has gone to the Supreme Court to quash a Koforidua High Court ruling on a contempt application against him.
In a motion on notice for an order for certiorari and prohibition, the MP though his counsel contends that the High Court judge committed a jurisdictional error of law on the face of the record when he assumed jurisdiction in Parliamentary Election Petition at Akwatia Constituency at the time when the Electoral Commission had not published the Gazette Notification.
The MP held that the High Court Judge breached the rules of natural justice when he proceeded to hear and determine the contempt application despite the pendency of his (the MP) motion to set aside the said contempt application for want of jurisdiction
According to him, the High Court Judge was also biased and highly prejudiced against him when he, among others, refused to grant his counsel audience on the basis that counsel had not filed “Appearance” in the contempt application.
The MP was therefore seeking a declaration that the Petition filed by Henry Boakye-Yiadom, the first Interested Party (IP) on December 31, 2024 in the absence of the Gazette Notification of the Parliamentary Election Result to which the election relates was incompetent as same did not properly invoke the jurisdiction of the High Court and that “any order founded on the same is void and of no effect.”

Effective collaboration crucial to curbing CSM – Titus Beyuo
Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Dr. Titus Beyuo, has called for a collaborative approach to curb the spread of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM).
In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Tuesday, February 25, Dr. Beyuo highlighted challenges health workers face, including patients refusing to cooperate with treatment efforts.
He cited instances where patients absconded from medical care, making it harder to contain the disease.
He urged the public to seek medical attention immediately upon noticing symptoms of CSM and emphasized the importance of adhering to health protocols to prevent infections.
“If you see any of the signs, just report early. It also calls for behavioral change. We need local authorities to be part because some things have to change. If people gather in masses, proximity, no face mask, spread by droplet, then we can get it spreading from person to person,” he said.
Dr. Beyuo also stressed the need for proper handling of deceased persons to prevent further spread.
“Sometimes the handling of even the dead. When we need to make certain critical decisions, people should defer to the health workers,” he advised.
Expressing concern over patients fleeing from hospitals, he recounted an incident where a suspected CSM patient left the hospital before lab tests were completed.
“People should not abscond. I heard of a case where someone with a suspected CSM was admitted to the hospital, and before they took the lab, the person had run away. Imagine the person going to a community—what will happen?” he questioned.
Dr. Beyuo called for community involvement, stricter health measures, and greater public awareness to curb the spread of the disease.
CSM outbreak in Upper West Region worsens; 173 cases, 16 deaths

Francis Faki Amanquah Foundation Awards Scholarships to Six KNUST Students
Accra, Feb. 25, GNA-The Francis Faki Amanquah Foundation (FFAF), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has awarded scholarships to six students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) studying Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
The latest scholarship presentation, held last Friday at KNUST, marked the second time the Foundation has extended such support, following a similar initiative last year that benefited five female students from the university.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mrs. Mercy Bruce-Amanquah, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of FFAF, reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to increasing access to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for Ghanaian women.
“We are here today to present scholarship awards covering tuition, accommodation, stipends, and laptops to six deserving young women studying Computer Science and Computer Engineering. This initiative is aimed at encouraging them to pursue careers that will enable them to make a global impact with their skills,” she stated.
Mrs. Bruce-Amanquah explained that the Foundation was established in memory of her late husband, Mr. Francis Faki Amanquah, an alumnus of KNUST with a deep passion for education, particularly for the empowerment of women in STEM.

Citing global statistics, she noted that only 28% of the STEM workforce comprises women, with Ghana’s figure standing at just 30%. She attributed this to the lack of female role models in STEM fields, which the Foundation seeks to address.
In addition to financial support and laptops, she disclosed that the Foundation will provide mentorship to scholarship recipients to guide and inspire them throughout their academic journey.
Professor David Asamoah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, expressed gratitude to FFAF for its impactful initiative.
Addressing the Foundation’s representatives and the Faculty of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, he emphasized that such support played a crucial role in enhancing student success.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to work hard, stating that their dedication would justify the continuation of the scholarship programme in collaboration with the International Programmes Office, allowing more students to benefit in the future.
A Level 200 Computer Science student expressed her appreciation for the scholarship, noting that the support would motivate her to excel academically.
Another beneficiary, Isabel Naa Norkor Noye, highlighted the timeliness of the financial assistance, stressing that it had come at a critical moment in her academic journey.

Other recipients, including Delali Mina Torgah, Khadija Ndaiya Kamil, Ikhlas Adeola Abdul-Sattar, and Ampem Kobi Afriyie, also extended their heartfelt gratitude to the FFAF Foundation for providing them with the opportunity to pursue their education without financial burdens.
The Francis Faki Amanquah Foundation continues to make strides in promoting STEM education for women in Ghana, ensuring that young talents receive the necessary support to thrive in their respective fields.

Otumfuo destools Ohwimhene
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Kusi Baaye II, the chief of Ohwim in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, following multiple allegations of misconduct and violations of traditional laws.
The chief, who ruled for 16 years, was removed from his position after being found guilty of several offenses, including the desecration of the Great Oath, extortion, illegal sale of lands, and illegal mining.
His actions were exposed during a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on Monday, February 24, 2025.
During the proceedings, the Ohwimhene was accused of falsely testifying in a chieftaincy dispute.
According to the issues, despite being aware of the rightful owners of the stool land, he allegedly demanded ¢6,000 to testify in favour of the owners but later took money from the opposing party and testified on their behalf.
His dishonesty was uncovered by the Asantehene, proving that he had violated his oath of office and the sacred witness vow associated with the Great Oath.
Further allegations were made by his sister, Akosua Nyame, who recounted how Nana Kusi Baaye II dismissed the authority of the Great Oath after she invoked it three times to prevent him from illegally selling cemetery lands meant for royals and chiefs.
She stated that he contemptuously remarked, “If the Great Oath has legs, let it come and arrest me.”
A former Biemso Dikro also testified that the destooled chief unlawfully seized land under the pretense that it had been taken by the Asantehene for a solar project. It was later discovered that he was engaging in illegal mining on the land, which has since been destroyed.
Additionally, allegations were made against him for obstructing the burial of Asikasuhene, who passed away five years ago. It was revealed that Ohwimhene burned the belongings of Asikasuhene, leading to his prolonged stay in the mortuary. He also allegedly caused the wrongful arrest of several community leaders, six of whom have since died.
Following these revelations, the Asantehene ordered the necessary traditional rites to be performed to formalize the chief’s removal.
Sending a strong message, the Asantehene warned that any chief who takes the Great Oath and violates it will face similar consequences.
“This is not only about him but to you all, anybody that takes the great oath and goes against it will equally face consequences…from today you are no longer chief for Owhin,” Otumfuo said.

Otumfuo Destools Ohwim Chief – DailyGuide Network
Nana Kusi Baaye II, the destooled Ohwim Chief
THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Kusi Baaye II, the Ohwim Chief in Kumasi after finding him guilty for gross misconduct.
The beleaguered traditional leader was dragged to the Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi, the seat of the Asante Monarch, for breaching several traditional laws and bad behaviour.
For instance, he was accused of lack of respect for laid down Asante traditions and rampant sale of lands, including even the sale of cemetery lands in order to enrich himself.
Some of the chief’s accusers also complained bitterly about how Nana Kusi Baaye II had been using stoutly built men also known as machomen to threaten them without justification.
Clearly, Nana Kusi Baaye II was looking dejected and helpless as he stood before the Asantehene when his accusers enumerated his numerous wrongdoings to him.
The beleaguered traditional leader then went on his knees as he pleaded with his overlord, the Asante King, to temper justice with mercy by sparing him but his pleas were rejected.
Otumfuo, who was not happy about the Ohwim Chief’s weird behaviour, cracked the whip as he announced that Nana Kusi Baaye II had been destooled with immediate effect.
Immediately after the King’s verdict, Nana Kusi Baaye’s traditional sandals was removed in public to signify that indeed he was no longer the chief of Ohwim.
As a reminder, the Asantehene has in recent times destooled several chiefs in Asanteman. Interestingly, most of the destooled chiefs were found guilty of illegal sale of lands.
