President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned that the Hajj pilgrimage should not be treated as a profit-making venture but rather as a religious and spiritual journey for Muslims.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the new Hajj Village on Friday, February 28, the President emphasized that any excess funds from the Hajj process should be channelled into projects benefiting Zongo communities.
“This year, we set up a task force to manage the Hajj because, after assuming office, we realized that the time before the pilgrimage was too short. So, we brought competent people together, led by Alhaji Collins Dauda, to organize this year’s Hajj. After this, we will constitute the Hajj Board and appoint its chairman,” President Mahama stated.
He further stressed that the Hajj must not be commercialized.
“I have instructed the task force that the Hajj is not a business and should not be structured for profit. The Hajj Board and Task Force must not aim to make a profit. If even one cedi remains after the Hajj, it should be donated to the poor or used for a project within the Hajj community,” he added.
The President’s statement comes amid ongoing Hajj preparations, as the Task Force urges all prospective pilgrims and accredited Hajj agents to complete payments and other required procedures within the stipulated timeline, which is March 13, 2025.
To facilitate a smooth pilgrimage, the Task Force has introduced measures to assist fully paid pilgrims in acquiring their passports with ease.
Accredited Hajj agents are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative to streamline the process for their clients.
Additionally, in a move to make the pilgrimage more accessible, the Task Force recently reduced the 2025 Hajj package fee from GHS 75,000 to GHS 62,000. This reduction aims to provide financial relief and enable more Ghanaian Muslims to fulfil their religious obligation.
The Ghana Police Service has arrested Daniel Tuffour in connection with the death of Joana Yabani Deladem Aku, a 21-year-old final-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. Tuffour, a hostel mate of Joana, was apprehended after CCTV footage linked him to the incident.
Joana, a Biological Science student, was found unresponsive near the Central Laboratory on the morning of February 27, 2025. Medical personnel from the university’s hospital confirmed her death at the scene, and her body was transferred to the morgue for further investigation.
An initial examination of Joana’s body revealed signs of violence, leading investigators to suspect foul play. Authorities reviewed evidence from the crime scene, which pointed to Tuffour as the primary suspect. Additionally, the police discovered key items, including the clothes Tuffour wore on the night of the incident, strengthening their case.
The arrest has left the KNUST community in shock, with students and faculty expressing their grief over the loss of the young woman. The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, met with Joana’s family to offer his condolences and assured them that justice would be pursued. He also visited the university to discuss improving security on campus to better protect students.
Joana’s death has sparked widespread sadness, particularly among her friends, classmates, and alumni. Many have taken to social media to mourn her passing and call for enhanced safety measures at KNUST. As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to remain patient and allow police to uncover the full details of the case.

Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance Joe Jackson has said that Ghana was broke under the previous Akufo-Addo administration because the government could not pay its debt.
This is despite the comment by former President Akufo-Addo that Ghana was not broke.
Joe Jackson says the country continues to be broke because even senior high school students are fed on less than 2 Cedis a day.
“Ghana is broke and we continue to be broke. If you can’t pay your debt are you not broke? We feed SHS students on less than 2 Cedis a day so what are we talking about, anybody who disagrees is living in a different reality,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, March 1 while contributing to a discussion on the state of the nation address delivered by President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, February 27.
He added “What has been done to the cocoa sector is almost criminal and such that any attempt to hold the value of the cedi this year is going to be severely hamstrung by what has happened in the cocoa sector.”
Joe Jackson further stated that the signs of economic recovery currently are tremendous.
From the financials vector, he said the signs are positive.
“From the financial sector, the signs are tremendous. The fall in T-bill rates alone and the corresponding domino effect on the rest of the economy is outstanding,” he said on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, March 1 when contributing to a discussion on the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, February 27.
Also contributing to the discussion, an Economic Advisor at the Office of the Vice President, Professor Sharif Mahmud Khalid, said the market is responding positively to the signals given by President John Dramani Mahama.
He noted that the government inherited an “overheated economy” from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. However, the signs are clear that all the economic indicators are pointing in a positive direction.
Prof Khalid indicated that the signal to cut down the size of the government had a significant effect on the economy.
“This government inherited a very overheated economy, with all signs of the economy going negative.
“The market is responding positively due to the signals that the president sent,” he said while contributing to a discussion on the State of the Nation address delivered by President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, February 27.
During the SONA, President Mahama said among other things that “It is common knowledge that our economy is in dire straits, which is putting it mildly. Because, after an initial assessment of the books, we have discovered that the economic problems are much deeper than was previously known. We have inherited a country that is broken on many fronts,” he stated.
According to President Mahama, the country’s public debt has ballooned to GH₵721 billion, with major state-owned enterprises like the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and COCOBOD heavily indebted, owing GH₵68 billion and GH₵32.5 billion, respectively.
The President further revealed that COCOBOD was unable to supply 333,767 metric tons of cocoa that had already been sold at $2,600 per ton in the 2023/2024 crop season, leading to a massive revenue loss of $840 million. Additional losses of $495 million are expected as more cocoa is supplied under rolled-over contracts.
The energy sector is also facing a serious financial shortfall of approximately GH₵34 billion for 2025 due to inefficiencies, legacy debts, and non-compliance with financial regulations. President Mahama lamented that despite the government’s previous spending of GH₵29.9 billion on a financial sector cleanup, the sector continues to struggle.
He further exposed the severity of Ghana’s debt servicing obligations, revealing that in the next four years, debt payments will amount to GH₵280 billion – GH₵150 billion for domestic debt and GH₵130 billion for external debt.
Despite the daunting challenges, President Mahama expressed his administration’s determination to restore fiscal discipline and economic stability. He announced measures to complete ongoing structural reforms, implement corrective fiscal policies, and build buffers in the sinking fund to support debt repayments.
“We are doubling our efforts to complete all outstanding structural reforms. Through the budget, we will implement corrective measures to restore fiscal discipline and debt sustainability,” he assured.

This follows the claims made by Asempa FM journalist Enoch Worlanyo Wallace on Thursday on his Sports Nite show.

This shocking revelation has sparked a lot of controversies and calls for through a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
In a strongly worded statement, the management of the Porcupine Warriors described the news as “Reckless Propaganda”.
Below is the statement from Asante Kotoko:

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams is the General Overseer of Action Chapel
The General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has recounted his encounter with a former president of the country, whose confidant and close associate exerted excessive control over him.
Addressing a gathering on February 28, 2025, during President John Dramani Mahama’s fellowship with the clergy, the esteemed clergyman revealed that the former president’s close confidant held significant influence, being powerful enough to gain the president’s ear and write letters instructing the termination of certain individuals’ appointments within the government, all in the president’s name.
He added that the individual’s actions and influence created a situation in which it seemed that two presidents were governing the country, making it increasingly difficult for the president to lead effectively.
“I remember some years ago there was a president in this country and I wouldn’t want to mention the name. He had a man around him that was so powerful and had his ear. He had lunch and dinner with him almost every day and he was so powerful that he wrote letters in the name of the president as he pleased to fire people and made it difficult for the president to govern. It was like you had two presidents,” he told the gathering.
Duncan-Williams further highlighted how the individual blocked access to those seeking an audience with the president to discuss matters of national importance.
He added that the individual wielded undue influence over the president, even going so far as to answer the president’s phone calls. The clergyman shared an experience where, upon calling, his call was answered by the individual, who then prevented him from speaking directly to the president.
“One day I called the president and he picked up the phone of the president and I said Mr president and he said ‘This is not Mr president’. He mentioned his name and he asked what my issue was so I told him I wanted to speak to the president and he responded that the president was busy and couldn’t talk to me at the moment and so he would tell the president to call me.”
He continued, “The president never called me so I stopped worrying myself and said if he doesn’t call me I won’t bother myself and so I left it alone.”
According to the man of God, the individual had the power to alter and overturn the president’s decisions. As a result, individuals who sought the president’s presence often ended up meeting with the confidant instead, recognizing his influence and control over the affairs and decision-making processes.
“He was so powerful that when the president takes decisions, he will go see the president and change it. At a point, people stopped seeing the president and were rather going to him because they realized that he could change whatever decision the president took. It was better to see him and let it prevail on the president,” he went on.
Additionally, he noted that this situation persisted for some time until the individual fell out with the president over a particular issue, ultimately breaking their close bond.
Duncan-Williams concluded by sharing that, after losing his power and influence, the individual reached out to him for intervention. However, the clergyman rebuked him for his actions during the period of his undue influence and control.
“… He was so feared and powerful that nobody could touch him or come between him and the president. One day, he had a fall-out with the president when something happened but I won’t go into the details. He and the president were no more friends and tight anymore.”
He added, “Then suddenly he called me to intervene and I told him I’m sorry I can’t do it because at the time he had power, influence, access, and the ear of the president, he undermined some of us and so it’s difficult to intervene in the matter. I told him I would pray for him and my prayer to God was simply for him to reap what he had sown. I didn’t pray openly but secretly.”
Duncan-Williams made this comment while emphasizing the importance of individuals with power and influence remaining grateful to God after achieving success. He also stressed the need for them to use their influence wisely.

President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku and President John Mahama
The debate over financial transparency in Ghanaian football has taken a new turn after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) responded to President John Mahama’s call for full disclosure of the Black Stars’ budget.
Speaking at the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, 2025, President Mahama called for all budgets for sporting events to be made public under his government.
This reignited discussions, with Communications Director of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, and Executive Council member, Oduro Sarfo, all leaping to the defense of the GFA.
Their statement has sparked outrage among Ghanaians on social media, with many voicing their frustration with the GFA’s lack of transparency, especially regarding public funds and sponsorship deals.
Others believe Ghanaians have a right to know how money is spent on the Black Stars, as Mahama requested. While some criticized the GFA for being secretive, there is a general sense of distrust and dissatisfaction with the GFA’s handling of financial matters.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament and a distinguished legal practitioner, has often credited his political and professional growth to the guidance of his mentor, the late Peter Ala Adjetey. A renowned lawyer and former Speaker of Parliament, Adjetey played a pivotal role in shaping Afenyo-Markin’s approach to leadership, governance, and the rule of law.
Afenyo-Markin, a product of the University of Ghana and the Ghana School of Law, has always been vocal about the impact of his mentor on his career. “Peter Ala Adjetey was more than a mentor; he was a beacon of integrity and legal excellence,” Afenyo-Markin once remarked. “His ability to interpret the law with precision and fairness shaped my approach to both the courtroom and Parliament.”
Adjetey, who served as Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament from 2001 to 2005, was known for his sharp legal mind, principled stance on constitutional matters, and unwavering commitment to parliamentary democracy. His influence on Afenyo-Markin is evident in the latter’s meticulous legal arguments and his reputation as a strong advocate for parliamentary procedure and constitutional governance.
Afenyo-Markin’s rise in Ghanaian politics has been marked by a deep appreciation for mentorship and guidance. “Politics is not just about rhetoric; it is about substance and responsibility,” he once stated. “One of the greatest lessons I learned from Peter Ala Adjetey was that a leader must always stand by the principles of justice, no matter the cost.”
This guiding philosophy has been evident throughout Afenyo-Markin’s tenure as a Member of Parliament for Effutu and now as the leader of the opposition in Parliament. His ability to navigate complex legislative matters and engage in bipartisan negotiations reflects the disciplined and principled approach he inherited from Adjetey.
Beyond his own journey, Afenyo-Markin has embraced the role of mentor himself, supporting young politicians and legal professionals. “The best tribute to a mentor is to pay it forward,” he said in a recent interview. “I strive to guide young minds just as I was guided.”
As Ghana’s political landscape evolves, Afenyo-Markin’s leadership, grounded in the principles instilled by his mentor, continues to shape national discourse. His commitment to law, governance, and public service stands as a testament to the enduring impact of Peter Ala Adjetey’s mentorship.
In a world where leadership is often tested by political turbulence, Afenyo-Markin’s journey underscores the power of mentorship in shaping not just individual careers but the democratic institutions of a nation.

A tense meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House ended in a dramatic confrontation, with Trump urging Kyiv to negotiate peace with Russia or risk losing American support.
During the Oval Office exchange, Trump told Zelensky to “make a deal or we’re out,” signaling a potential shift in U.S. policy toward Ukraine’s war with Russia.
He also accused the Ukrainian leader of “gambling with World War Three” and suggested that Kyiv should be more appreciative of American aid.
Zelensky, however, pushed back, insisting that Ukraine “should not compromise” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Following the heated exchange, Zelensky left the White House, without signing the minerals deal that had been a key topic of discussion.
He also did not hold the planned joint news conference with Trump and departed without speaking to the media, leaving in his motorcade.
Trump later posted on his Truth Social platform: “He can come back when he is ready for peace.”
Vice President JD Vance also questioned whether Zelensky had shown enough gratitude for U.S. support during the three-year war.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to deliver what they term as the “True State of the Nation Address” on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
This move comes in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on February 27, 2025, which the NPP claims omitted critical national issues and misrepresented the current state of Ghana.
In a statement dated February 28, the NPP criticized President Mahama’s address for lacking a comprehensive and accurate assessment of the nation’s trajectory since he took office on January 7, 2025.
The party highlighted several pressing issues that were allegedly overlooked in the President’s speech, including deteriorating power supply, rising security challenges, increasing illegal mining activities, and a growing employment crisis.
“In light of this, the NPP, through its leadership in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, will present the True State of the Nation’s Address to offer Ghanaians a factual and objective account of the nation’s condition,” part of the statement read.
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) before the 9th Parliament, as mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. His speech touched on the country’s economic, social, and financial conditions of the populace. This article examines the president’s statements and compares them with economic and financial data sources.
The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP), a policy think tank dedicated to social reform, sound economic management, and responsible governance, acknowledges the contributions made by various governments toward strengthening Ghana’s national power grid. However, IERPP finds that the president’s assertion in paragraph 6 of the SONA—where he claims to have resolved dumsor (erratic power supply) by 2016, stating that from January 2016 to January 7, 2017, there was no power rationing or load management—is inaccurate.
Evidence contradicting this claim can be found in an article published by Citi FM Online on April 19, 2016, in which the president himself stated;
“We are not able to get enough gas to feed the power plants.”
He further explained;
“If you take the eastern generating area, which is Tema, we have almost 600MW of gas-based generation but are not getting gas through the West African Gas Pipeline to be able to run them.”
Additionally, in a GhanaWeb article published on July 15, 2016, the president is on record acknowledging that dumsor was not yet over while addressing party supporters and traders at Aboabo Market in Tamale, Northern Region. Given these documented statements, the president’s claim in his 2025 SONA does not align with historical records from 2016.
Claim on Cedi Depreciation
In paragraph 14, the president highlights the continued depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, reporting a 19% loss in value against the U.S. dollar in 2024, following a 27.8% depreciation in 2023. While IERPP acknowledges that the NPP government may not have achieved all of its economic targets and that challenges remain, a broader analysis of data from the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana from 2013 to 2024 reveals significant efforts in stabilizing the local currency, particularly between 2017 and 2024.
Despite periods of volatility, the cumulative exchange rate depreciation showed a decline from 73.8% during the NDC administration (2009–2016) to 71.4% under the NPP government (2017–2023). This suggests that while currency depreciation remains a concern, policy measures implemented in recent years have contributed to a relatively slower rate of decline. We believe that factors such as improved fiscal discipline, monetary policy adjustments, and the gold-for-oil policy have played a role in gauging the exchange rate trajectory. However, sustaining long-term stability will require further structural reforms, increased foreign exchange reserves, and diversified economic growth strategies.
Claim on the Financial Sector
Furthermore, the president asserted that Ghana’s financial sector continues to struggle despite the previous government’s reportedly expenditure of GHS 29.9 billion on the financial sector clean-up exercise to date. However, IERPP considers this claim misleading and seeks to clarify the reality of the sector’s recovery. According to the World Bank’s 8th Ghana Economic Update, more than half of the 23 banks operating in Ghana are in a strong position, eliminating the need for further recapitalization. The report highlights that, within just one year, most banks successfully achieved over two-thirds of the required recapitalization target, despite the initial three-year timeline set for completion.
In addition to improved capital adequacy, Ghana’s banking sector has witnessed a remarkable recovery in profitability. The return-on-equity (ROE) after tax surged from a negative -34.4% in December 2022 to a positive 34.2% in December 2023, demonstrating a strong turnaround in financial performance. Similarly, return-on-assets (ROA) improved significantly, rising from -3.8% to 5.4% over the same period.
The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy, IERPP, believes that these indicators suggest that while challenges remain, the financial sector has made significant strides in resilience and recovery. The implementation of regulatory measures, improved asset quality, and enhanced risk management strategies have contributed to the sector’s stability. Going forward, continued fiscal discipline, efficient monetary policies, and investor confidence will be crucial in ensuring sustained growth in Ghana’s financial sector.
Claim on Reserves
The President also stated that the previous administration left minimal reserves for debt servicing, despite implementing what he described as one of the most severe and distressing economic policies in the history of the Fourth Republic—the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme. However, it remains unclear whether the President was referring specifically to Gross International Reserves (GIR).
To set the record straight, the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Perspectives (IERPP) emphasizes that, as of now, Ghana’s gross international reserves stand at approximately $8.9 billion, which translates to four (4) months of import cover. This figure is among the highest reserve levels recorded under the Fourth Republic, offering a robust buffer against external economic shocks. For historical context, when His Excellency the President handed over power on January 7, 2017, the gross international reserves stood at approximately $5.78 billion (2013-2016), providing around 3.4 months of import cover.
Furthermore, if the President’s assertion was specifically referencing the sinking fund, IERPP’s assessment indicates that, as of January 2025, the previous NPP administration had left an auction excess of over GH¢700 million, which remained unspent. Additionally, an extra GH¢3 billion in end-of-year revenue was available as a financial cushion, supplemented by other unutilized funds across various accounts. Given these facts, the President’s claim that inadequate reserves were left for debt servicing does not align with the available data and financial records.

Ghanaian musician and medical professional, S3nti
Ghanaian musician and medical professional S3nti has opened up about how her dual careers often collide, sometimes in unexpected ways.
S3nti recounted an amusing encounter with a patient who recognized her at the hospital.
“There was one time I was at the medical emergency unit, and someone walked up to me, saying, ‘I know you! I was on your Instagram Live yesterday!’” she recalled in an interview on Hitz FM monitored by MyNewsGh.
According to her, such moments make her realize that her music is gaining traction.
“It actually makes me happy. It means people are noticing me,” she said.
S3nti also shared that her music blends multiple influences, which she describes as Afro-Fusion.
“I don’t want to be confined to one genre. I’ve been exposed to different sounds like Soul, R&B, and Highlife, so I mix them together,” she explained.
On how she finds time to record music, S3nti revealed that she often works at night or at dawn.
“I don’t sleep. Sometimes my shows end at 2 a.m. or 3 a.m., and I still have to go to work. But I love what I do, so I make it work,” he said.
Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah
Amid the ongoing discussions about the christening of Ghana’s main airport after Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, who was the brain behind the 1966 coup d’état that overthrew the Nkrumah government, it has emerged that Ghana’s first president planned to name the airport after Yaa Asantewaa, the Asante queen renowned for her bravery.
According to historian Yaw Anokye, Dr Kwame Nkrumah had already reached out to the king of Asanteman, seeking their approval to name Ghana’s main airport after Yaa Asantewaa.
However, the well-documented rift between Kwame Nkrumah and the Ashanti chiefdom at the time prevented the lofty and genuine idea of Kwame Nkrumah from coming to fruition.
Anokye Yaw Frimpong, in an interview with GTV in 2023, explained that the chiefs rejected Nkrumah’s request on the grounds that the leadership of Asanteman at the time belonged to the United Party (UP) and that if Yaa Asantewaa were alive, she would have belonged to the UP.
Since the UP at the time was seen as a bitter rival to the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Yaa Asantewaa, as per the reasoning of the chiefs, would not have allowed the CPP government to name a monument after her.
“After independence, Kwame Nkrumah called the Asante chiefs and was prepared to name the international airport after her. The chiefs went and returned to tell Nkrumah that Ghana had split between the United Party and the Convention People’s Party.
“Nkrumah is a CPP man, so he should go round when he finds a CPP woman, he can name the airport or anything after her because, if Yaa Asantewaa had been alive, she would have been a UP member,” he narrated.
Publications by other historians indicate that Kwame Nkrumah was adamant that naming the airport after Yaa Asantewaa was the right thing to do and made moves to get the blessing of Asanteman to name the airport after her until the overthrow of his government on February 24, 1966.
Who is Yaa Asantewaa
Yaa Asantewaa was the Queen Mother of Ejisu in the then Asante empire. She was appointed by her brother Nana Akwasi Afrane Okese, the Edwesuhene, or ruler, of Edwesu.
In 1900, she led the Ashanti war, also known as the War of the Golden Stool or the Yaa Asantewaa War of Independence, against the British Empire.

Popular commentator affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party P.K Sarpong has accused President John Dramani Mahama of neglecting Kumasi-based filmmakers in his appointments despite campaigning for him in the December 7 presidential election.
According to him, the President has favoured the Accra-based filmmakers in his appointments, neglecting those from Kumawood. In a Facebook post, the popular writer pointed out that most of the Accra filmmakers did actively engage in campaign activities for John Dramani Mahama, but he has still chosen them ahead of the Kumasi-based stars who hit the roads for Mahama in the crucial polls.
His comment comes after John Dramani Mahama appointed James Gardiner as the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority and Kafui Danku as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority.
In his opinion, the National Democratic Congress-affiliated movie stars deserve a spot in the John Dramani Mahama-led administration due to their relentless efforts in the lead-up to the presidential and parliamentary elections, stressing that he finds it intriguing that none has been appointed so far.
“I find it quite intriguing that only Accra-based filmmakers and actors are being appointed by President John Dramani Mahama.
The Kumasi-based ones, those who call themselves Kumawood stars, are being given a raw deal by the President.
It simply means that those in the Kumawood circles are not valued by the NDC and their president. They are seen to be somewhat worthless.
Most of these Accra-based entertainment industry players were never seen on the grounds campaigning for the NDC,” his post reads in part.

Prominent Ghanaian preacher, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, has stirred debate with a bold revelation at a clergy meeting organized by President John Mahama at the Accra International Conference Center on Friday, 28th February, 2025.
His statement about an alleged “second president” in the past government has left Ghanaians speculating about which administration he was referring to.
Speaking as a guest speaker at the event, Duncan Williams recounted a time when a particular government appeared to have two heads of state. He claimed that each time the sitting president made a decision, another powerful figure, whom he described as a “second president” would override it.
According to him, this mysterious figure even went as far as signing dismissal letters in the president’s name, creating confusion within the administration. He added that at a point, many government officials stopped seeking the president’s approval and instead reported directly to the second president, as they saw him as the real authority.
Duncan Williams further revealed that tensions eventually arose between the president and this second power figure. He recounted that the so-called second president once reached out to him, asking for his intervention to resolve the conflict. However, the Archbishop said he chose not to get involved because, at some point, this second president had ignored his calls.
Following his statement, social media has been buzzing with speculation, with many trying to decipher which government Duncan Williams was referring to. While some believe he was speaking about a recent administration, others think he was referencing a much older government.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has appealed to the government, urging it to maintain the graves of three ex-servicemen—Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey—who were pivotal in the fight against colonialism and played a significant role in Ghana’s journey towards independence.
In a press release, the CPP highlighted the bravery and sacrifice of these three gallant men, who were brutally slain while demanding their just wages after fighting for the British in the Second World War.
The party emphasised the importance of honouring their legacy and ensuring that their contributions are not forgotten.
The CPP commended successive governments for their efforts in honouring these heroes but called for additional measures to be taken.
The party urged the state to maintain the graves of Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey, cater for their direct descendants, and renovate their family houses to serve as tourist sites.
Furthermore, the CPP suggested that a posthumous promotion for these heroes would be fitting, as has been done for other personnel who demonstrated exceptional heroism of national repute. The party appealed to the current government to consider this request and take appropriate action.
The CPP concluded by expressing its best wishes to all Ghanaians and reaffirming its commitment to making Ghana a haven of freedom, justice, and prosperity for all. ”

A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the tragic murder of Joana Deladem Yabani, a final-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Her lifeless body was discovered near the university’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025.
Following thorough investigations, the police identified 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, also a final-year student at KNUST, as the primary suspect. Surveillance footage from the university’s CCTV system provided critical evidence, capturing Tuffuor in distinct attire at the crime scene. Upon further inquiry, law enforcement recovered the same clothing in his possession, strengthening the case against him.
In response to this shocking incident, KNUST has intensified security measures to enhance campus safety. The administration has deployed over 50 security personnel, including mobile patrol units from the Anti-Robbery Squad and SWAT officers, to boost surveillance. Currently, CCTV cameras cover about 80% of the university, but plans are underway to achieve full coverage in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the university has issued precautionary measures to students, urging them to prioritize safety. They have been advised to move in pairs after dark, steer clear of secluded areas, minimize carrying valuables, and promptly report any suspicious activities to security officials.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the matter to ensure justice for Yabani and her grieving family. Authorities remain committed to bringing those responsible to account while reinforcing safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Jennifer Queen, Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party
Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jennifer Queen, has expressed gratitude to former President Akufo-Addo for not giving her any appointment.
According to the outspoken politician, she would have, by now, been harassed, persecuted, and arrested by the Mahama-led government on flimsy charges, just as has been done to some members of the NPP.
Speaking on Angel FM, as monitored by GhanaWeb, Jennifer Queen, known for her vociferousness, stated that not serving on any institution’s board during President Akufo-Addo’s government has given her peace of mind.
“Do you not think that if former President Akufo-Addo had appointed me to the board of an institution with no significant financial rewards, by this time, the Mahama government would have caused my arrest long ago? Sometimes, it is good not to have any political appointment. They would have arrested me in Rambo-style and dragged me all the way to the NIB offices. I swear to God on this issue. So, former President Akufo-Addo, I greet you this morning, and I am grateful to you for not appointing me as a board member of any institution.”
Some leading members of the NPP have, in the past week, either been arrested or invited by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to answer questions related to corruption.
The former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, was detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over his alleged role in the botched $3 billion Accra Sky Train project.
He was picked up on the morning of Sunday, February 23, 2025, for allegedly authorizing the release of $2 million to Africa Investor Holdings, the company behind the project.
Reports suggest that the payment was made before feasibility studies were conducted and that the funds have yet to be refunded to the state.
Former Minister of Railway Development, Joe Ghartey, was also invited by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for questioning regarding the Ghana Sky Train project.
The project was initiated in 2018 by the previous administration as a major infrastructure initiative to tackle traffic congestion, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.
Under the leadership of Joe Ghartey, Ghana signed a concession agreement with the Africa Investment (Ai) Sky Train Consortium in 2019, with an estimated cost of $3 billion.
However, the project never took off, raising concerns about its feasibility and financing.
In 2022, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), a state entity, disclosed that it had invested $2 million in the project but had yet to see any returns.
The Auditor-General’s report also flagged this expenditure, sparking public debate.

A Toyota Sentra with registration number BT 565-22 has been completely burnt at Soalepe in the West Gonja Municipality along the Fulfulso-Damongo Highway in the Savannah Region.
The vehicle, carrying the driver and seven passengers, was travelling from Tamale to Damongo when the incident occurred. Reports say all occupants escaped unhurt.
Speaking to Channel One News, Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) and Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Emmanuel Ofori Adjei, confirmed receiving a distress call from Soalepe about the fire on Friday, February 28. He stated that firefighters arrived at the scene within four minutes, but the car was already in a severely damaged state upon their arrival.
“Our team arrived within four minutes and managed to put out the fire, but by the time we got there, the vehicle was completely burned,” Adjei stated.
Recounting the incident, the driver said that “as he approached Soalepe, he suddenly heard an explosion and immediately pulled over. Realizing the danger, he rushed to open the doors for passengers and helped unload goods from the vehicle.
“Meanwhile, he did not have a fire extinguisher and was unaware of the fire service emergency number, making it impossible for him to call for help. A fellow driver travelling behind him witnessed the fire and quickly reported the incident,” the DCFO said.
According to him, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Controversial Ghanaian media personality, Kevin Taylor, has vowed to destroy the NPP party within two years and make them irrelevant in Ghanaian politics going forward.
Speaking during a recent episode of his show, Taylor said by the time he’s done with the NPP, they will not get even 25% of the share of the vote in 2028 elections.
Taylor vowed that if NPP are able to cross the 25% threshold he will dismantle the entire Loud Silence Media network that he’s spend over a decade building.
Kevin said the reason they NPP needs to be destroyed is because they are a ‘demonic’ party who does not have the best interests of Ghanaians at heart. Taylor said the party needs to be broken down and rebuilt or replaced with a better alternative.

The number of robbery cases recorded in 2024 within the operational zone of Western Region was thirteen (13) according to statistics from the Ghana Police Service (GPS)
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP) Mr. Osei Akoto, the Western Regional Police Command is therefore committed to change the narrative in terms of prevention and management of crime within the jurisdiction.
This is because, Ghana Police Service, according to the commander, plays vital role in maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, while preventing and detecting crime, as well as ensuring public safety in course of delivering on its mandate.
Briefing Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and Western Regional Minister Hon Joseph Nelson, on performance of the command and its architecture, he assured the Minister that with a focused mind on police community engagement, proactive policing, and effective collaboration with other security agencies, the command, he indicated would surely improve service delivery and quality of security in the region
The Western Region, according to the commander, is divided into Western and Western Central Police Regions for operational purposes, with 5 divisions, 11 districts, and 38 police stations dotted across the specific zonal areas.
Mr. Osei Akoto highlighted the command’s successes, including a significant reduction in violent crimes, with only 13 robbery cases recorded in 2024.
All these achievements notwithstanding, he confirmed that challenges confronting their operations still persist, including the threat of environmental degradation from illegal miners (galamsey activities) chieftaincy disputes, and road traffic offences including accidents.
In response, Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to addressing these challenges, particularly galamsey, which affects the entire nation.
*Key Challenges:*
He condemned environmental degradation and the threat being posed by national security
In the region, the number of chieftaincy disputes, the Minister observed is alarming
Aside that, another issue he identified has to do with an alarming rate of fatalities, particularly along the Agona Nkwanta area
Police, government, and community stakeholders, the Minister underscores, must work together to address these challenges.
The Minister revealed his administration would support the police to continue to employ community-based policing, strategies for their proactive patrols.
Minister Nelson explained the essence of regular engagement between police and community leaders, with support from the Regional Minister and other stakeholders.
Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin [L] and Media personality, KSM
Veteran broadcaster Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that it made a huge mistake by removing Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu—whom he describes as a “colossus”—and replacing him with Alexander Afenyo-Markin, whom he describes as “boisterous.”
According to KSM, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu effectively led the NPP caucus in Parliament, often demonstrating a strong measure of intelligence in his communication, regardless of whether one agreed with him or not.
Speaking on his KSM Show, as monitored by GhanaWeb, the outspoken media personality further criticized the choice of Afenyo-Markin, describing him as someone lacking “substance” and not being the ideal leader for the NPP in Parliament.
“…Among some of the things listed was Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu leaving as Majority Leader to bring in Afenyo-Markin. NPP, what were you thinking? You removed Kyei-Mensah—I call him a colossus of an MP. He understood Parliament. He knew how to communicate, whether you agreed with him or not. His system of communication had a strong measure of intelligence backing him up. I may disagree with one or two things, but overall, he was human and might have had his mistakes. But to remove him as leader of the majority? At least replace him with somebody of substance. Who did you choose? Afenyo-Markin. So boisterous—‘I will go to court’—that is what you chose. Was that your best choice?” he questioned.
KSM added, “To fire Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and bring in Afenyo-Markin to lead the majority? Isn’t it interesting where he has led you? He has led a whole contingent of a majority in Parliament to a desperate minority because of his intransigence, because of his approach to things. This boisterous, cantankerous nature is not really in sync with the politics of 2025. We actually have to upgrade everything.”

Former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei-Asare
Former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei-Asare, has questioned the feasibility of President John Mahama’s ambitious social intervention programs, arguing that they lack a clear funding strategy despite his own grim assessment of the economy.
Speaking in response to Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Atiwa East MP criticized what she described as contradictions in the President’s message.
“It is ironic that President Mahama describes Ghana’s economy as being in an intensive care unit (ICU), yet he is announcing massive new social programmes without explaining how they will be financed,” she said.
Osei-Asare acknowledged the economic challenges faced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government but insisted that decisive policies had been implemented to stabilize the country before Mahama took office.
She highlighted improvements in the financial sector, a rise in private sector credit, and strengthened foreign reserves as signs of recovery under the previous administration.
“The financial sector today is in a far stronger position than it was in 2016,” she noted.
“By October 2024, total banking sector assets had grown from GH¢81.2 billion in 2016 to GH¢367.2 billion. Private sector credit also saw an increase of 28.8% in 2024, compared to a negative growth of 7.5% in 2023.”
She accused the President of exaggerating economic difficulties to justify expansive spending and warned that his policy direction mirrored the excessive expenditures that led to Ghana’s 2015 IMF bailout under his administration.
“Ghana’s economy was not ‘criminally handled’ as the President suggests. We faced global economic difficulties but took responsible measures to mitigate them. The signs of recovery were clear before this government took over,” she said.

Myron Boadu, the Dutch Ghanaian striker for VfL Bochum (L)
Myron Boadu, the Dutch-Ghanaian striker for VfL Bochum, has been sidelined for nearly three weeks due to a torn muscle fiber in his thigh.
His last appearance was on Matchday 21, where he scored a brace in a 2-2 draw against KSV Holstein. This week, Boadu commenced running training, signaling a potential return to the pitch. However, according to coach Dieter Hecking, the match against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday is too soon for his comeback.
Hecking noted that even for the upcoming Bayern Munich fixture, Boadu’s participation remains uncertain. The coach emphasized the importance of not rushing the striker back into action. A more realistic return date is expected for the away game against league leaders Bayern Munich on March 8. If not then, Boadu is anticipated to make his comeback at the latest a week later when Eintracht Frankfurt visits VfL Bochum.
This season, Boadu has been a key player for Bochum, making 11 Bundesliga appearances and scoring 7 goals. He has also provided 1 assist, showcasing his offensive prowess. His performances have been instrumental in the team’s attacking strategies.
KOKA says Iddrisu’s advice to Dumelo was misinterpreted
Entertainment critic and NPP communications team member, Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has weighed in on the recent controversy between John Dumelo and MP of Tolon, Habib Iddrisu.
Iddrisu came under fire from some industry personalities and netizens on social media after he advised the Deputy Minister of Agriculture-designate, John Dumelo, during his vetting to focus on his role as he was “no longer in the movie industry” and that he should be “as serious as he can.”
However, speaking in an interview with Max TV on February 28, 2025, KOKA defended Iddrisu’s comments, stating that the MP did not say anything wrong.
According to him, Iddrisu’s advice to Dumelo was misinterpreted.
According to KOKA, Iddrisu’s remarks were meant to guide Dumelo in his new role, emphasizing the need for humility, seriousness, and focus.
“Iddrisu did not say anything wrong. Real life is like drama on its own. The MP was simply advising Dumelo to take his new role seriously, work closely with his boss, and avoid letting his star personality overshadow his boss unintentionally,” KOKA explained.
He further clarified that Iddrisu’s intention was to caution Dumelo against treating his new responsibilities like a movie role, urging him to approach the position with dedication and professionalism.
“He was telling Dumelo to be humble, apply seriousness, and focus on assisting his boss. He shouldn’t take it as a movie because, in real life, everything requires commitment,” KOKA added.
KOKA also criticised those who lambasted the MP, suggesting that they may not have fully understood the context of his statement.
“It seems those attacking the MP were not mature enough to grasp what he said. I didn’t see anything wrong with his statement,” he stated.
Meanwhile, various creative arts personalities, including George Quaye, Nana Poku Ashis, Kwame Dadzie, D-Black, and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, among others, have lambasted Iddrisu for his statement and demanded an apology.

Hours after a heated exchange with US President Donald Trump and vice-president J.D. Vance at Oval Office meeting, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stood his ground, making it clear that he saw no reason to apologise.
His focus remains on achieving a “just and lasting peace” to ensure that Russia cannot launch further attacks on Ukraine.
The stormy exchange with Trump and Vance reportedly stemmed from disagreements over US military aid and Ukraine’s long-term security. While Trump warned Zelenskyy about the risks of escalating the conflict, Zelenskyy pushed back, emphasising the need for continued support to prevent future Russian aggression.
In his much-anticipated prime-time interview with Brett Baier of Fox News, Zelenskyy acknowledged that the Oval Office exchange “was not good” but stood by his role in it. Rather than expressing regret, he defended the conversation, calling it “open” and “honest” — a discussion between friends who may disagree but remain committed to a shared goal.
Zelenskyy’s remarks suggest that despite the tension with Trump and Vance, he still views the US as a crucial ally. However, the meeting’s fallout and the uncertain future of US aid raise concerns about how Ukraine will navigate its war strategy and diplomatic ties moving forward.

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed renowned actor James Gardiner as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA).
With extensive experience in the entertainment industry, Gardiner is expected to bring innovative strategies to revamp the NFA and boost the Ghanaian film sector. His role will involve:
Strengthening collaborations within the filmmaking industry
Enhancing the quality of local productions
Attracting international recognition for Ghana’s creative talent
Gardiner’s appointment is seen as part of President Mahama’s broader agenda to develop the creative arts industry and elevate Ghana’s film sector on the global stage.
Teachers across Kenya, through their union, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), have issued a stern ultimatum to the government, announcing plans for a nationwide strike beginning on March 3, 2025, should their grievances remain unaddressed.
The decision comes as frustrations mount over the government’s alleged failure to resolve the persistent healthcare crisis affecting teachers.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng on Friday reiterated his commitment to do his best at the Office of the Special Prosecutor and leave when his time is up. However, there are critical fixes to the office that he suggests are imperative to ensure that the office functions as expected and corruption crushed.
Among his suggestions are the need to entrench the OSP in the constitution, enact a comprehensive Corrupt Practices Act, and establish specialised anti-corruption courts to expedite justice.
He spoke at the UPSA Law School and One Ghana Movement Constitution Day Public Lecture on the topic: “A Few Good Men: Suppressing and Repressing Corruption and State Capture in Aid of Development.”
Agyebeng pointed to the necessity of formally incorporating the OSP into the national constitution, ensuring its longevity and independence beyond the tenure of any single individual.
“First, we must write the Office of the Special Prosecutor into the constitution and board it up firmly. Do not dwell on me. Leave me out of the equation. I am just one person – obviously. My tenure will end at some point, and like everyone else, I will leave the scene,” he stated.
He warned against the growing trend of equating the OSP’s work with his personal efforts, arguing that the fight against corruption should not be personalised but rather institutionalised for sustainability.
Agyebeng advocated for the enactment of a Corrupt Practices Act to clearly define corruption-related offenses, eliminating ambiguities that hinder effective prosecution. He criticised the current legal framework, describing it as convoluted and lacking clarity.
“The present formulation under section 79 of Act 959 is unhelpful and circuitous. It engenders confusion. It is symptomatic of our penchant for crafting criminal legislation in an arcane and roundabout fashion instead of simply stating what we mean to say,” he remarked.
He cited examples from Ghana’s legal history, including the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), where laws have been phrased in vague and overly complex terms, leading to prolonged debates and legal uncertainties.
To expedite the handling of corruption cases, the Special Prosecutor proposed the establishment of specialised anti-corruption courts, staffed with judges trained specifically in handling corruption-related matters.
“Third, we must set up specialised anti-corruption courts manned by especially trained judges in the field to swiftly and efficiently deal with corruption cases,” he noted, adding that justice must be delivered swiftly to deter corrupt practices.
Furthermore, he stressed the need to safeguard judicial independence and nurture a culture that rewards integrity while holding corrupt officials accountable.
Kissi Agyebeng also called for stringent measures to scrutinise unexplained wealth, not only among public officials but also within the private sector.
He proposed rigorous lifestyle audits and increased transparency in political party financing to curb the monetisation of public elections.
“On this score, we must forcefully address unexplained wealth not only among public officers but also private persons, with biting lifestyle auditing. Then again, we must highlight the vexed question of the opacity attending political party financing and the monetisation of public elections,” he urged.
He suggested the introduction of anti-corruption studies in Ghana’s basic and secondary school curricula as a way to help tackle corruption.
Kissi Agyebeng believes that early education on ethical governance and integrity will help cultivate a new generation committed to fighting corruption at every level of society.
“All I am saying is this – we must channel our anti-corruption laws as a construct for national development.”

Bolgatanga MP, Isaac Adongo
President John Mahama, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, discharged his constitutional duty by presenting the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament.
The colorful event was graced by many dignitaries, including a former president, members of the diplomatic corps, and traditional rulers.
In his presentation, President Mahama spoke for over two hours without reading from a hard copy of a prepared text, as is usually done by many high-ranking public officials.
For those who watched on television, and for some uninitiated persons who were physically present in the chamber of Parliament House where the event was held, it appeared as though the president was speaking off the cuff for that long, which amazed many viewers.
One person who fell for this ‘illusion’ was the outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo.
During an interview on Asempa FM, monitored by GhanaWeb, the politician and chartered accountant sought to project President Mahama as an expert in speaking extemporaneously.
The following is the MP’s exchange with the program host:
Adongo asked: “What people didn’t observe—did you see the man speaking extempore?”
The host answered, “No, he didn’t.”
Adongo retorted, “His Excellency?”
The host responded, “No, he didn’t.”
Then Adongo asked, “What was he doing?”
The host answered, “He was reading from a teleprompter.”
Adongo retorted again, “But a greater part of the speech—”
The host responded, “No, no, he used a teleprompter.”
The MP then said, “I don’t want to debate you; I didn’t see anything.”
The host answered, “Yes, he did.”
Adongo, not satisfied with the answer, questioned, “Where was it (the teleprompter)?”
The host responded, “It was placed in front of him. It’s a screen. There were two—one on his left and the other on his right.”
President Mahama, a communications expert, both in opposition and in power, has resorted to using teleprompters when delivering public speeches—a style that is a departure from former presidents, who read prepared hard-copy statements.
A teleprompter is a device used to project a speaker’s script onto a transparent panel in front of a television camera lens in such a way that the text remains hidden from the camera.

The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) is set to commence the rollout of a US$220million tree crop diversification project for TCDA and COCOBOD this year, following the successful acquisition of funding from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group.
Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, the acting CEO of TCDA, confirmed the development during a visit to the authority’s head office in Kumasi.
He noted that the project has now entered its implementation phase and will enhance the production, processing, and trade of four key high-value four crops including cocoa, cashew, coconut, and rubber. Three of these crops namely, cashew, coconut and rubber will be under the operations of TCDA for the project.
Dr. Osei Okrah announced that the US$220 million credit facility will be disbursed between TCDA and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), with US$100 million allocated to TCDA and US$120 million to COCOBOD.
“The successful acquisition of this funding is a game-changer for Ghana’s tree crop sector,” Dr. Okrah stated.
“With $100 million going directly to TCDA, we are well-positioned to strengthen the entire value chain—from production to processing and export.”
The six-year project will focus on enhancing the production, processing, and trade of four high-value tree crops: cashew, coconut, rubber, and Cocoa.
Dr. Okrah emphasised that this initiative aligns with TCDA’s vision of regulating and developing the tree crop industry to drive economic growth.
“Our goal is to transform Ghana into a leading producer and exporter and trade of these key crops by ensuring a well-structured and sustainable value chain,” he added.
“This project will create jobs, improve farmer livelihoods, institutional capacity and boost foreign exchange earnings for the country, create jobs, and position Ghana as a major player in global tree crop markets,” he said.
His visit to Kumasi marked his first regional tour since his appointment by the President.
It provided an opportunity to engage with staff on key operational challenges, including logistics, revenue collection, funding, and capacity building.
He assured them of ongoing efforts to improve working conditions and enhance efficiency within the authority.
The acting CEO was accompanied by his deputy, Rich Kofi Kofituo, who is in-charge of operations at TCDA.
The project, initially launched last year, is expected to drive value addition and increase Ghana’s agricultural competitiveness, reinforcing the government’s commitment to diversifying the economy through the tree crop industry.

The Minority in Parliament has strongly criticized President John Mahama’s recent appointments, accusing him of violating Section 4(1) of the Presidential Office Act. According to this provision, the President must consult the Council of State before making such appointments. However, the Minority argues that since the Council has not yet been constituted, these appointments lack the necessary legal backing.
Patrick Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, has called for the immediate withdrawal of the appointment letters and urged the President to follow due process. He emphasized that all appointments should be made in accordance with the law to uphold good governance.
Beyond the appointments, the Minority has also raised concerns about Ghana’s foreign policy direction, particularly regarding the appointment of an envoy to the Sahel region. They argue that this move could signal a shift in Ghana’s traditionally neutral diplomatic stance and are demanding clarification from the President on whether this appointment affects the country’s position within ECOWAS and the global community.
As tensions rise, the Minority continues to press for answers, insisting that the President must provide transparency on both the appointments and Ghana’s evolving foreign policy approach.

In a groundbreaking development, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed that under President John Mahama’s leadership, Ghana has experienced a historic decline in treasury bill rates, signaling positive economic shifts for the country.
Taking to Facebook, Dr. Forson shared the remarkable news with Ghanaians: “BREAKING: Massive Drop in Treasury Bill Rates! In just 50 days under President Mahama’s leadership, treasury bill rates have seen a historic decline!”
The numbers are telling. The 91-day Treasury Bill has been slashed from an alarming 28.34% to 20.79%, reflecting an incredible 760 basis points drop. Similarly, the 182-day Treasury Bill has fallen from 28.96% to 22.98%, a 600 basis point reduction. The most significant change comes in the 364-day Treasury Bill, which has plummeted from 30.17% to 22.69%, a staggering 750 basis points cut.
These changes are seen as a bold and necessary move to stabilize Ghana’s economy, which has faced its fair share of challenges in recent years. By reducing the cost of borrowing, the government aims to encourage investment, lower inflation, and ultimately foster economic growth. For ordinary Ghanaians, this decline may translate into better access to credit and a more stable financial environment.
Economists and industry experts have lauded this aggressive move, noting that the reduced Treasury Bill rates could help ease the strain on businesses and consumers alike. The significant drops are expected to send a signal of confidence to both local and international investors, who will likely take the opportunity to reassess the country’s potential.
Dr. Forson’s announcement, which has since gone viral, also sparked widespread conversation on social media, with many expressing optimism about the future. The hashtag #MahamaEffect quickly gained traction, reflecting a growing sense of hope among Ghanaians.
While the government has made strides in implementing reforms to stabilize the economy, there is still much to be done. Analysts believe that continued fiscal discipline and strategic planning are key to sustaining this positive trajectory.
As the nation moves forward under President Mahama’s administration, the significant reduction in Treasury Bill rates stands as a symbol of the government’s commitment to resetting Ghana’s economic course and creating a more secure financial future for all.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO
Former Member of Parliament for Suame constituency in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has outlined several qualities that made Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO, the ideal running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.
According to Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, he played a key role in the selection of NAPO as the party’s running mate, asserting that he possessed the qualities needed to secure victory for the NPP in the elections.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM on February 26, 2025, he revealed that after ruling himself out of consideration for the running mate position, NAPO became his preferred choice.
“We took a lot of things into consideration before selecting the running mate, especially when we assessed the situation in the Ashanti Region.
“ As I mentioned earlier, I ruled myself out of the race. One of the reasons I proposed NAPO was that Bawumia, as Vice President, already had significant executive experience. We, therefore, needed someone with strong parliamentary experience, as governance requires a deep understanding of parliamentary affairs,” he explained.
He continued, “Secondly, apart from me, he was the longest-serving MP in the Ashanti Region, aside from KT Hammond and Anyimadu.
“Thirdly, in the Ashanti Region, aside from me, the person who was most dedicated to his parliamentary duties was NAPO.
“Additionally, I felt that if we wanted someone to partner with Bawumia, we should consider a candidate who, after Bawumia’s tenure, could potentially take over. In terms of age, NAPO was the best candidate for succession planning.”
“In terms of his parliamentary activities, he also stood out as the best choice,” he added.
Despite the NPP’s selection of NAPO as running mate, the party ultimately lost the 2024 general elections to the then-opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, on Monday, December 9, 2024, declared John Dramani Mahama the winner of the election.
Mahama’s party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), achieved historic success by securing a significant majority in Parliament.

Ras Mubarak among some of the riders
Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has announced that 100 Okada riders will be trained every month for the next six months as part of efforts to improve road safety and ensure responsible motorcycle riding in Ghana.
The initiative, spearheaded by Gold Coast Mobility Innovations Limited (Okadamotto), seeks to equip riders with proper road safety skills, defensive riding techniques, and accident prevention strategies.
“Our vision is to give training to Okada riders because most of them don’t have any idea about the use of motorbikes. Every month, we will train 100 Okada riders within Accra, and if God permits, we will expand to other regions,” Ras Mubarak who doubles as the founding partner of Okadamotto said.
Ras Mubarak further highlighted the role of technology in transforming the Okada industry, emphasizing the introduction of a mobile application designed to enhance convenience and safety.
According to him, the app functions similarly to Uber, allowing users to request motorbike rides online, ensuring a more structured and efficient transportation system.
He stressed that the platform would not only streamline operations for riders but also help regulate their activities, reducing the risks associated with reckless riding.
“We have a mobile app for motorbikes that runs like Uber, allowing users to request bikes online. We do not want reckless driving on the roads,” he asserted, adding that proper training, digital monitoring, and accountability are key to making Okada services safer and more reliable for passengers.
After the five-day training session, the first batch of riders received 100 helmets, t-shirts, phone holders, and other safety gear to enhance their riding experience.
The Board Chairman of Okadamotto, Dr. James Antwi, urged the riders to adhere to road signs and regulations to reduce accidents and improve public confidence in Okada services.
Dr. Proper Detti, Chief Financial Officer of Okadamotto, who led the training, emphasized key focus areas such as defensive riding techniques, road sign interpretation, and accident prevention strategies.
The initiative comes as the government moves to commercialize the Okada sector. Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, recently announced plans to officially license Okada riders as commercial transport providers.
During a visit to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Accra on February 10, 2025, Minister Nikpe reaffirmed the government’s commitment to regulating motorcycle transport.
“You may recall that we made a campaign promise to regulate the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes. That process starts today. We are now examining the necessary regulations and legal frameworks to allow them to operate commercially,” he said.
He further assured that Okada riders would receive proper training and certification, which would lead to safer roads and reduced congestion.
“Our brothers in the Okada business will now have their own licenses, be certified, and be well-trained to transport passengers safely,” he added.
The training session, which runs from February 24 to February 28, 2025, marks the first phase of a nationwide training programme to enhance the capacity of Okada riders across the country.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council is confident that the interventions made to strengthen the technical team of the Black Stars will yield results in the upcoming qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Last month, the GFA revamped the technical team of the Black Stars after a thorough review of the national team’s performance in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
As part of the changes, the GFA appointed experienced German manager Winfried Anton Schäfer as a technical advisor to the Black Stars. Additionally, highly rated Ghanaian trainer Desmond Ofei was appointed as an assistant coach to deputize for Otto Addo.
In a press release issued on Friday, the GFA stated, “We expect these interventions to reflect in our upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March and also further on in the year.”
Meanwhile, the football association has acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama’s observation, during his State of the Nation Address, that the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON does not reflect the country’s football talent.
The GFA has also assured the public that it is ready to work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to actualize the dreams and aspirations of all Ghanaians.
