Akwaboah Jr. Uses Humor to Deflect Marriage Rumors

0

Akwaboah

Renowned songwriter, instrumentalist, and singer Akwaboah Jr. recently opened up about how he has managed to keep his marriage intact amid the swirling rumors and harsh public scrutiny.

The My Darling hitmaker, who married last year, revealed that he took proactive steps by preparing his wife for the inevitable chatter on social media. In a candid conversation with Amansan Krakye, he recalled, “When I got married, if you followed what transpired on social media and the discussions that came up, people said a lot of things about me.”

Akwaboah Jr. explained that by forewarning his wife about what to expect, they were able to face the rumors head-on. “The lucky thing that happened to me was that I had already advised my wife earlier to expect some of the things that happened,” he said. As the gossip began to circulate, the couple chose to observe the speculations and simply laugh it off, a strategy that allowed them to maintain their peace of mind and protect their relationship.

This approach not only highlights the strength of their bond but also serves as a reminder that humor can be a powerful tool against adversity. In an era where every move is amplified on social media, Akwaboah Jr.’s perspective offers a refreshing counter-narrative. He emphasized that marriage, much like any other relationship, requires conscious effort and the willingness to take time off from the noise of the public sphere. “If there’s a need for us to go chill, we go out, have fun, and later come home to sleep. We need to do whatever it takes to protect our marriage from breaking down,” he added.

In a world where public figures often find themselves battling both fame and personal challenges, Akwaboah Jr.’s pragmatic and light-hearted approach serves as both an inspiration and a testament to the enduring power of love and mutual support.

0

Govt officials must be ready for accountability – Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has addressed the growing anticipation around government appointments, warning that it’s not just about recognition, but also about the responsibility of delivering results for the people.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Ethiopia on Monday, February 17, John Mahama pointed out that while many are eager to know who has received a “green letter,” such appointments come with significant responsibilities and high expectations.

“Those of us in leadership must lead by example, we must be prepared to be held accountable, for taking the public trust and as I have told everybody, if you accept to serve in the public sector, then you must be prepared to answer to the people because it is the people who took you there, you serve at their pleasure.

“The green letter comes with a lot of responsibility and expectation and I have said that while we hold those who came before us accountable, we should remember that we are also going to be held accountable.” he stated.

He added that, the amendment of the constitution along with the stabilization of the economy and creating opportunities for the youth as soon as possible is one of the key things that he is going to look at with urgency and that, if he is unable to complete the task before him, he is determined to lay the foundation to put Ghana on the right track.

“So amending the constitution, holding people accountable for the public trust and making sure that we stabilize the economy and create the opportunity for our young people to work as quickly as possible, is the task ahead of us. We may not be able to complete that process but at least I am determined that we lay the foundation, and put Ghana on the right track.”

WFP, KOICA to empower 15,000 youth in smart farming solutions

0

By Edward Acquah

Accra, Feb. 17, GNA – The World Food Programme (WFP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have set out to empower 15,000 Ghanaian youth with digital skills and tools to build resilience in food systems and improve livelihoods.

The Youth Economic Empowerment through Digitalisation for Resilience in Food and Nutrition Security and Improved Livelihoods project is expected to empower beneficiaries to improve nutrition, develop food security monitoring system, and support the digitisation of Ghana’s School Feeding Programme.

KOICA contributed US9.3 million dollars to the Project, which will be implemented within the next five years, a project brief shared with the Ghana News Agency said on Monday.

The project will be implemented in 56 districts and six regions, including Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Savannah, and Greater Accra.

It is expected to deploy mobile technologies, precision farming systems, and digital platforms to promote the adoption of smart agricultural practices and encourage healthy lifestyles.

Ms Aurore Rusiga, the WFP Country Director to Ghana, said the empowerment of Ghana’s youth, who made up about 38 per cent of the population, was crucial for the country’s socio-economic growth.

She said the project would deliberately focus on women, to make up 60 per cent of the target beneficiaries, while five per cent would be persons with disability.

“Through this initiative, we aim to equip Ghana’s youth with the digital skills and tools they need to enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen food systems, improve livelihoods, and secure sustainable employment opportunities,” Ms Rusiga said.

Mr Park Kyongsig, the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, said Korea was committed to Ghana’s sustainable development and had, over the years, contributed to projects to help the country build resilience.

He said Ghana’s land and water resources presented an opportunity for the country to build food resilience and pledged the readiness of Korea to continuously support Ghana’s developmental agenda.

Mr Edmond Moukala, the Director of UNESCO at the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, commended the WFP and KOICA for initiating the project and emphasised the need for collective action and partnership to build food security.

“This is an inspiring and visionary project,” he said.

Ghana’s early exit from IMF programme could destabilize economy, according to experts

0

Speaking on Joy FM on Monday, 17 February 2025, the Finance and Economics Professor at the University of Ghana stressed that Ghana’s economic struggles are more severe than when the country initially sought IMF support.

“We are an economy that is struggling. We are in a worse situation than we were when we went to the IMF,” he stated, urging the government to consider extending the programme if necessary.

He further warned that an early exit could send negative signals to investors, who prioritise long-term economic stability.

“When people are investing, they want stability for the long term, not just one or two years. Otherwise, those considering long-term commitments may hesitate,” he noted.

Prof. Bokpin highlighted Ghana’s restricted access to international capital markets until 2027, complicating the country’s economic recovery. He cited warnings from the World Bank, which has advised Ghana against rushing back to the market, pointing out that countries that undergo debt restructuring typically need three to four years to regain investor confidence.

Another critical concern raised by the economist is Ghana’s inefficient tax system. He revealed that only 41% of the economy contributes 86% of tax revenue, leaving a substantial portion of economic activities untaxed.

“A large chunk of our economy is not taxable. The bigger percentage of our economy contributes just about 40% of tax revenue,” he explained.

While acknowledging government efforts to enhance tax education and administration, he recommended properly taxing high-net-worth individuals, which he estimated could generate up to $160 million annually.

He also cautioned against overburdening compliant taxpayers with additional levies, warning, “If we are not careful, we will kill the chicken that lays the egg.”

Prof. Bokpin’s concerns come as Ghana continues implementing fiscal measures under its $3 billion IMF programme, initiated in 2023. While the government remains optimistic about meeting its fiscal targets through improved tax collection and expenditure controls, the economist insists that a more strategic approach—possibly extending the IMF programme—would be in Ghana’s best interest.

“The idea of reviewing the programme with the possibility of an extension should not be off the table,” he concluded.

George Britton questions Kuami Eugene’s visibility after Lynx exit

George Britton has expressed concerns over Kuami Eugene’s visibility since his departure from Lynx Entertainment.

The UK-based showbiz expert, recognised for his work as a media personality, talent manager, and entrepreneur, believes the singer needs a solid team to maintain his influence in the industry.

“Kuami Eugene has been in the industry for a while. He knows what to do and has built relationships,” he said in an interview cited by MyNewsGh.com.

“But if he wants to work effectively, he needs to form a strong team—one with a good network and members who have key industry connections.”

Britton noted a decline in the singer’s promotional strategies, referencing the recent release of a song on his birthday.

“Back when he was with Lynx, we would have seen more updates about his release. At Lynx, there were people ensuring the public was always informed about what Kuami Eugene was doing. Now, I don’t know who is on his team or what they’re up to,” he told Amansan Krakye.

Highlighting the importance of visibility, he added, “If I don’t see Kuami Eugene posting about his new music on Instagram, and I don’t see anything elsewhere either, it shows just how crucial a good team is.”

‘Godfred Dame as an Attorney General brought no honour to the office’ – Beatrice Annan

0

Presidential Staffer Beatrice Annan has asserted that former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame failed to carry himself with the grace and honor expected of someone in such a high office.

According to her, Dame’s tenure as Attorney General will be remembered as a period of embarrassment, not only for the office but for the legal profession as a whole.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Monday, February 17, 2025, she accused him of manipulating the judicial system, alleging that the courts became a safe haven for politically motivated cases during his time in office.

“I think if there is any Attorney General who never carried himself with the grace and honor that an Attorney General should, it is Godfred Dame. He will go down in the history of this country as an Attorney General who brought no honor to the office.

“In fact, he was a total embarrassment to all lawyers. And I was shocked that Godfred Dame could actually have the temerity to speak. Well, I don’t even know how to describe this, but it shows you the level of impunity and the low standards we’ve had to deal with over the last eight years,” she remarked.

The presidential staffer further argued that the problems under Dame’s leadership were not just confined to the judicial system but also affected the business climate in the country.

“Godfred Dame is a very dishonest person who should not have been an Attorney General in the Fourth Republic. He has taken our jurisprudence backward and has practically messed up not only the judicial system but also the business climate due to numerous unethical practices.

“The courts became a safe haven where the merit of a case no longer mattered. He was so comfortable, whether by calling judges on the phone, visiting them in their offices, or engaging in practices that were new and novel to us as legal practitioners,” she stated.

Turning to the issue of politically motivated cases, Beatrice Annan clarified that her objections were not part of a campaign to exonerate NDC officials.

She cited the case of The Republic vs. Ernest Thompson, where Godfred Dame charged Thompson with over 20 counts, only for the court to strike out 17 of those charges as frivolous and unsupported by evidence.

“The court itself struck out over 17 of those charges as frivolous, baseless, and lacking evidence,” she explained.

In her opinion, Dame misused his prosecutorial powers, targeting individuals who expressed opposing political views.

“I’m sure if I were a public officer, simply calling out Godfred Dame would have subjected me to some charges,” she asserted.

Meanwhile, Godfred Dame has criticized the John Dramani Mahama-led administration for what he describes as a deliberate strategy to clear its officials of wrongdoing by discontinuing some high-profile criminal cases.

Speaking at a press conference on February 14, 2025, Dame accused the government of orchestrating a calculated effort to withdraw major criminal cases, particularly those involving former government appointees, to absolve them of any wrongdoing.

“These developments irresistibly point to only one conclusion—a calculated, preconceived ploy on the part of the NDC to wipe out all criminal cases pending against its leading members and officials in the John Mahama government,” he stated.

Africa must seek self-reliance to avert donor fatigue

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

Following President Donald Trump’s sweeping executive order shutting off the funding for foreign aid programmes, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will invest in increasing food production as a response to the suspension.

This suspension is expected to have far-reaching economic effects across Africa, with Ghana facing a significant revenue shortfall of US$156million.

For instance, US$78.2million of the shortfall will impact crucial health programmes including malaria prevention, maternal and child health, family planning and HIV/AIDS interventions.

Speaking at the town hall forum of the Munich Security Conference in Germany last Friday, President Mahama expressed concern over the potential impact but advocated that Africans take steps to mitigate the effects by increasing local food production and securing alternative sources of funding.

The Munich Security Conference is an international security summit held annually in Munich, Germany. The gathering provides a venue for international decision-makers and diplomats to debate ideas and address security concerns.

The conference initially provided Germany, the U.S. and other NATO member-countries a forum to discuss and debate Western policy during the Cold War. President John Dramani Mahama was in Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference.

The president also serves as Chairperson of the Tana Forum and will lead a Tana/MSC side event on ‘Deepening Global Fragmentation: Implications for Africa’s Peace and Security’.

While in Munich, President Mahama was scheduled to have bilateral discussions with a number of world leaders and organisations on a broad range of issues, mostly centring on mutual cooperation between Ghana and the respective countries.

The President has signalled his government’s resolve to invest in increasing food production, ensuring food security amid signs of less aid coming in from major donors such as the United States’ due to its new foreign policy direction.

USAID was first created by President John F. Kennedy in a 1961 executive order; Congress passed a law in 1998 to make it an “independent establishment” like others in the Cabinet.

Multiple administrations, Democratic and Republican alike, built USAID into an institution that has helped save millions of lives around the world, promoted U.S. interests in remote corners of the globe and employed thousands of Americans.

Ghanaian female weightlifter Marie Agbah-Hughes has revealed that lack of financial support and injuries have been among the biggest challenges in her weightlifting endeavors.

She explained that despite being a member of Ghana’s women’s weightlifting team, she does not receive monetary aid from the state and has had to fund everything herself.

The female weightlifter noted that her consistent lifting of equipment has resulted in injuries unrelated to the sport, which sometimes hinder her progress.

“Weightlifting is a repetitive sport. The same movements are repeated over and over to fine-tune techniques, ensuring safety while lifting and avoiding injury. I’ve had injuries unrelated to weightlifting, such as an accident that forced me to take a break and start over,” she said while speaking on Sports Check, aired on GhanaWeb TV.

Agbah-Hughes also called on state institutions and prominent personalities to provide financial support and other forms of assistance.

“So, it hasn’t been the smoothest journey. As a national team member, I haven’t received financial support. It’s been difficult paying for everything weightlifting-related.

“Representing Ghana on an international platform is an honor, but it would be nice to have support. Unfortunately, I haven’t received any support up until this day,” she added.

Police deny entry to Adutwum, Kokofu, others

0

A heavy security presence at the Council of State re-election in the Ashanti Region created dramatic scenes as prominent political figures, including former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and former Bantama MP, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, were turned away by police for lacking accreditation.

The others included Kwadaso MP, Kingsley Nyarko, and the former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong who were among those barred from entering the main auditorium, where the voting was taking place.

Police officers at the venue stood firm, insisting that only accredited individuals—specifically assembly members eligible to vote—were permitted inside.

They, however, complied with the directive and left without incident, Citi FM’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hafiz Tijani reported.

Security at the polling station remained tight, with barriers mounted and a water cannon on standby, signaling police preparedness to maintain order.

Early on, police in the Ashanti Region arrested one person following chaos that erupted on the grounds.

Meanwhile, Saaka Abuba has emerged victorious in the North East Region’s Council of State election, securing his position as the region’s representative after a closely contested rerun.

The election, held on Monday, February 17, 2025, saw Abuba clinch 7 out of 12 votes, defeating his closest contender, Asabigi San Malunga, who polled 5 votes.

The rerun was necessitated after the initial election ended in a deadlock, with both main contenders securing an equal number of votes—6 each. This tie prompted the Electoral Commission to organise a second round of voting to determine a clear winner.

The brief but decisive voting session took place under tight security and strict adherence to electoral guidelines, ensuring a transparent and peaceful process.

In addition to the North East Region, a re-run of the election was also organized in the Ashanti Region after the initial process was disrupted, resulting in no clear winner being declared.

How Ghanaians reacted to Michael Blackson blaming NPP government for Eurobond woes

0

American Ghanaian comedian, Michael Blackson American Ghanaian comedian, Michael Blackson

Ghanaian-born American comedian Michael Blackson’s revelation about losing part of his $1.2 million Eurobond investment due to Ghana’s debt restructuring program has sparked widespread outrage on social media.

In a recent interview on Vlad TV, Michael Blackson explained that his investment, intended to fund a free school he established in Agona Nsabaa, was affected by the government’s 2024 Eurobond debt exchange program.

He apologised for initially blaming Ghana and rather directed the blames at the NPP administration for his loss.

Following this heart-wrenching revelation, scores of Ghanaians have expressed anger and disappointment on social media, directing their frustrations at the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

They have expressed sympathy for the actor and accused the NPP of corruption and mismanagement.

One user lamented, “DDEP was and remains the biggest evil a country has ever done to its citizens. My money remains at Databank!” Another added, “The crazy thing is how not one single debt was actually paid, so the money was really lost.”

“Any follower and avid supporter of the NPP has the potential to do worse than this in the future. Know them now and protect this country from such scavengers,” another comment read.

“Investing in education and giving back to the community is admirable, and it’s heartbreaking to see such efforts hindered by corruption. Hope he finds a way to recover from this setback,” a user wrote.

Some called for accountability, with one person asking, “Can he sue the former administration? If somebody was going to get him his money back, it means it’s possible for the government to do it, but they chose not to, turning it into an opportunity for corrupt officials to benefit. Evil regime.”

Leaders must be prepared for accountability

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to accountability and responsible leadership, urging public officials to recognize the weight of the trust placed in them by the people.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Ethiopia on Monday, February 17, 2025, he emphasized that those in leadership must lead by example and be willing to answer to the citizens they serve.

“Those of us in leadership must lead by example. We must be prepared to be held accountable for the public trust,” President Mahama stated.

“If you accept a role in the public sector, then you must be prepared to answer to the people because it is the people who put you there. You serve at their pleasure.”

He acknowledged the excitement surrounding new appointments but cautioned that every public office comes with significant responsibility.

“Everybody is excited and running—‘Have you got a green letter from the president?’ The green letter comes. But the green letter comes with a lot of responsibility and expectation,” he added.

President John Dramani Mahama also stressed that while his administration will hold past leaders accountable, it is equally important for current officials to recognize that they, too, will be judged by their actions.

“And I have said that while we hold those who came before us accountable, we should remember that we, too, will be held to account in the same way,” he noted.

Outlining his administration’s priorities, he emphasised constitutional amendments, strengthening public trust, stabilizing the economy, and creating job opportunities for young people.

He acknowledged that while the process of reform may not be completed during his tenure, laying a solid foundation for future leaders remains his goal.

“And so, amending the constitution, holding people accountable for the public trust, and ensuring we stabilize the economy and create opportunities for our young people to work as quickly as possible—that is the task ahead of us,” he said.

“We may not be able to complete the process, but at the very least, I am determined to lay the foundation and put Ghana on the right track so that whoever takes over can continue and consolidate it,” President Mahama affirmed.

AU Member States endorse draft statute of African Monetary Institute – President Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

Ministers of Finance and the Central Bank Governors of African Union (AU) Member States have endorsed the draft statute for establishing the African Monetary Institute (AMI), as part of an effort to boost the continent’s financial and economic integration.

This is through the Specialised Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning, and Integration.

President John Dramani Mahama, who is the Champion of African Union (AU) Financial Institutions, disclosed his keynote address at the Heads of State and Government breakfast dialogue held at the AU Commission headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event on the theme, “Africa at the forefront: Mobilizing African Investment and Financing for Implementing Agenda 2063”, was held on the sidelines of the AU Summit, under the auspices of the Alliance of African Multilateral Financing Institutions, also called the African Club.

The President said the AMI would serve as a precursor to the African Central Bank and will carry out essential preparatory work, including technical and legal assessments, as well as ensuring the implementation of macroeconomic convergence criteria.

He noted that the AMI awaits further consideration and adoption by the heads of state and government through the AU policy organs.

“Similarly, the African Monetary Fund, the AMF, supports macroeconomic stability, which is crucial for investor confidence,” he said.

He said the African Investment Bank was also a pivoter in funding infrastructure projects such as energy, transport, digital transformation, while the Pan-African Stock Exchange was envisaged to integrate capital markets, making it easier for businesses to raise capital and thereby enhancing liquidity, promoting intra-African investments, and providing alternative financing mechanisms for governments and the private sector.

He said progress was being made towards the establishment of this exchange, with the Commission and the African Security Exchanges Association working on the exchange’s linkages project.

He noted that this initiative also aims to enhance liquidity and facilitate capital mobilization across African nations.

President Mahama said accelerating the implementation of the African Union Financial Institutions, namely the African Central Bank, the African Investment Bank, and the African.

The Monetary Fund and the Pan-African Stock Exchange were instrumental in fostering investments and financing to achieve their objectives.

He said that mobilising resources, facilitating trade, and financing infrastructure projects, could reduce dependence on external aid and create a self-sustaining economic ecosystem for Africa.

He said the African Central Bank was aimed at establishing a single African currency, which would help to reduce exchange rate risks and enhance investment flows across the continent.

“We encourage more African stock exchanges to join this important project. Undeniably, strong political will and effective policy coordination are going to be crucial for the successful implementation and overall impact of the African Union financial institutions,” he said.

President Mahama said Ghana continues to champion and advocate for member states to embark on due processes at the national levels to expedite the establishment of these institutions, recognizing their significance in promoting investments and financing the AU Agenda 2063.

“While we have made significant strides, the journey ahead requires unwavering commitment,” he said.

“I call upon all our governments, our private sector, our civil society organisations, and development partners to renew their commitment to mobilizing resources for our continental blueprint on development. “Let us leverage our collective strengths, foster strategic partnerships, and champion innovative solutions to bridge the financing and investment gaps in Africa.”

Adding that, “the Africa we envision, a continent that is integrated, prosperous and peaceful, is within our reach”.

Adding that by mobilizing their resources, reforming their financial systems, and investing in their people, they could realize the laudable aspirations of creating the Africa they want, their Agenda 2063.

Asamoah Kola, restricted to the substitute bench, threw caution to the wind to brazenly attack the centre referee after his side’s 1-0 defeat at home to in-form Zone Three leaders Swedru All Blacks, in the country’s second-tier league.

Video footage show an irate footballer throwing missiles targeted at the referee with violence against match officials becoming an increasing problem in Ghanaian football, as attacks on those trying to implement the laws of the game grow.

The midfielder could face a prolonged period away from the pitch with the Football Association set to hand down severe punishment to the player to serve as a deterrent, according to GHANAsoccernet.com.

The incident has sparked a wave of concerns as calls for stiffer punishment for the player grows incessant.

But for Eso Doh Morrison’s firm gravity, the match official would have fallen to the ground after the hefty blow from the footballer.

The club has also been charged for failing to control their players and fans and have up until Tuesday, February 18, 2025, to respond to the charge.

While the home fans were left angered by the decision of the referee, video footage has revealed the match official made a well-judged penalty decision.

The incident comes at a time when Ghanaian football is under scrutiny following the tragic stabbing of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Yaw Frimpong, better known as ‘Pooley’ in Nsoatre, which led to the suspension of the Ghana Premier League and the introduction of new matchday security reforms.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to take a firm stance on the matter as part of efforts to restore discipline and safety in the domestic league.

The campaign team of Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo wants the Electoral Commission (EC) to change the venue for today’s re-run of the Council of State election from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to a neutral venue to ensure free, fair and transparent elections devoid of violence.

The group is also calling for the deployment of the military to boost security at the election premises, to ward off any thugs or machomen who may be harbouring plans of disrupting the election process today, Monday, February 17, 2025.

It will be recalled that the election of the region’s representative to the Council of State turned chaotic on Tuesday, February 11, when some machomen stormed the election grounds and disrupted the process, destroying ballot papers and boxes.

Five journalists who were filming the incident for their reports were beaten pitilessly. The victims include Gideon Nana Peprah, GhanaWeb; Akwasi Oppong, Angel FM; Kofi Adade, Oyerepa Radio/TV, Henry Kotei Henry, Oseikrom Dawuro newspaper, and Charles Awuah Mensah alias Papa That, Lawson FM/TV.

They were beaten in the presence of the police while the ballot papers were being sorted and counted by the electoral officers.

The campaign team manager, Nana Obuor Sika, in a press conference on Friday, February 14, claimed that the police deployed to the initial election failed to control the confusion that erupted at the RCC, hence the need for the deployment of military personnel to ensure violence-free process today.

“It is just so shameful having over 100 policemen and women who could not superintend over just 86 votes to be counted and results declared. What then is the assurance that come Monday (today), if this same people (police) are going to superintend the elections, we can have a smooth running of the elections? So I think this time, the military and all other forces must join hands, so that we can have a very clean, fair and violent-free elections,” he explained.

Nana Obuor Sika continued, “Our message is very clear: We are for the re-run on Monday (today), but we are not going to allow the elections to be held at RCC, and we are calling on the military and other security agencies to join forces with the police on Monday, so that we can have a very violent-free elections.”

He explained that the RCC is not neutral enough to serve as venue for the election, considering it being the official seat of the Regional Minister, Dr.  Frank Amoakohene, stressing that the election can easily be manipulated in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s candidate, Yaw Owusu Obimpeh.

Nana Obour Sika also indicated that, they will resist any attempt by the Electoral Commission to change the voter register for the elections to favour one candidate.

“We are hearing from the various MMDAs in the Ashanti Region that, as we speak, there are swearing-in of new members who are going to form the government appointees, so that they can use those swearing-in members to tamper with the register.

“What we want to ask is that, what does the law say if there is going to be a re-run of elections? Does the law say the very register or the very album which was used for the elections could be tampered with the new register?  We are now calling on the Electoral Commission to do the needful.  There is no law that states that the album can be tampered.  The elections was held on Tuesday, and per what happened, there is the need for re-run as they have advised accordingly.  We have the total list of the 86 Assembly members who voted on that day, and that is what we all have to go by,” he indicated.

Accra, Feb 17, GNA-Care for Society Network International (CfSNI) a not-for-profit organisation has organised a training for senior high school girls at Kibi Secondary Technical School on self-confidence to shun peer pressure.

The workshop was under a project called “Obaa Nhweso Initiative” which sought to mentor and nurture young students on the need to progress in their academic pursuits and avoid teenage pregnancies and dropping out of school.

Mrs Anita Ampofoa Amoako-Gyimah, Founder of CfSNI indicated that building a strong foundation and an ethical society was in the values instilled in young girls who would become future adults.

By helping young girls identify their potentials and understand the importance of self-confidence through such trainings “we’re not just shaping individuals, but influencing the future of our communities”.

She said due to gender stereotypes which had influenced some long-held perceptions about girls’ education, mentoring and nurturing them was critical to achieving gender-equality.

She also observed that the rise of social media had amplified the pressures young girls faced, often leading to insecurity and self-doubt, which reinforced the need for such education.

The participants were taken through practical strategies to help them to build resilience, withstand peer pressure, set meaningful goals, and maintain focus to go through the academic ladder.

The interactive sessions encouraged the girls to identify their strengths, overcome their fears, and develop healthy relations to foster personal growth.

One of the participants Ama a 16-year-old girl said the experience was transformative. “I used to doubt myself a lot, especially when I faced challenges. But now, I tell myself, ‘I am determined’ every day, and it gives me the courage to keep pushing,” she said.
