Kwabena Kwabena captivated the crowd at King Promise’s “Promiseland” concert, delivering an unforgettable performance of his iconic hit “Aso.”

The legendary highlife artist had the audience on their feet, singing along to the song that has stood the test of time.

As part of the evening’s celebrations, Kwabena Kwabena also shared the stage with King Promise, whose song “Favourite Story” from his “True to Self” album sampled the popular beat from “Aso.”

After his electrifying performance, Becky GH from Hitz FM caught up with Kwabena Kwabena for a brief interview monitored by MyNewGH, where the artist expressed his gratitude for the enduring love Ghanaians have shown toward the song.

He said, “I’m truly happy to see that Ghanaians still appreciate ‘Aso’ after all these years. It’s an honour to know that my music continues to resonate with so many people.”

Looking ahead, the musician revealed exciting plans for 2025, when he will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the track that helped solidify his place in Ghana’s music history. “We’re going to do something special for the 20th anniversary of ‘Aso.’

“Trust me, it’s going to be a celebration to remember,” Kwabena Kwabena promised. He also shared that the anniversary event would coincide with his annual Valentine’s Day show, a tradition that has become a staple for many fans.

Kwabena Kwabena was quick to acknowledge the rise of a new generation of artists, noting how artists like King Promise have drawn inspiration from his work.

“It’s amazing to see the younger artists like King Promise carry the torch. I see elements of my style in their music, and I’m proud to see how the genre continues to evolve.”

2025 has caused me a lot

0

A young man has been devastated after his shop at Kumasi-Tafo Mile 4, near the Hisense shop, was consumed by fire, reportedly caused by a fireworks display celebrating the New Year on January 1, 2025.

In a video shared on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the roadside shop is seen engulfed in flames, leaving its contents reduced to ashes.

According to the victim, this tragedy marks a terrible start to the year.

In the video, the victim is heard lamenting that he had opened the shop less than a month before the unfortunate incident occurred.

“This year has caused me a lot. At about 2 a.m. yesterday [1st January], boys burnt my shop as they fired knockouts. My shop has been burnt to ashes less than a month after I opened it. Everything is completely destroyed. I am going to start life afresh.”

Ban on the importation of firecrackers

In 1999, Parliament adopted a Legislative Instrument (LI) prohibiting the importation of certain firecrackers and display shells.

The LI, “Export and Import (Prohibition of Importation), 1999,” conferred on the Minister of Trade the authority to ban the importation of firecrackers (knockouts), display shells, artillery shells, and ball and canister shells.

It took effect on Thursday, December 16, 1999.

Offenders were liable, upon summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding five million cedis [now GH₵500] or a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both.

The LI, which resulted in heated and lengthy debates, was intended to give legal effect to an earlier Executive Instrument issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry in July.

Injuries from firecrackers

Seventeen people reported sight-threatening injuries at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra following the misuse of firecrackers, popularly referred to as knockouts, during the Christmas celebrations. All received emergency treatment, though the majority would eventually lose sight in one or both eyes.

Dr. Stephen Akafo, Acting Head of the Ophthalmology Unit of the hospital, disclosed this in an interview. He explained that personnel from the unit often had to abandon regular cases to perform emergency surgeries on victims in a bid to save their eyesight. Unfortunately, most cases were severe, and the operations could not restore their sight.

Dr. Akafo cited a tragic case where a boy lost sight in both eyes after a bottle containing a lit firecracker exploded in his face. The firecracker had initially failed to explode, and as the boy bent over the bottle to investigate, it detonated.

He also mentioned the heartbreaking case of a two-year-old child who lost her sight when an unknown individual threw a firecracker into her face as her mother was feeding her.

A 17-year-old victim, David Antah, who lost sight in his right eye, recounted that he was buying food on Tuesday night when someone threw a firecracker into his face.

Dr. Akafo explained that the explosion of a firecracker near someone’s face is enough to rupture the eyeball. In such cases, the chances of restoring sight are minimal.

He urged the government to immediately enforce a ban on the use of firecrackers to prevent further harm.

The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has advised Ghanaians against exerting pressure on President-elect John Mahama after he is sworn into office on January 7, 2025, to begin his work.

Speaking at his church during the December 31, 2024, Watchnight Service, the prophet urged Ghanaians to be patient with the new leader and give him the space and time to implement measures to restore Ghana to a path of development and prosperity.

“Our incoming President will be sworn in on January 7 to begin his work. I beg you to have patience with him. Let us not exert pressure on him. Things will improve, but it will take time. When you are resetting things, it requires patience. Let us allow him to press the right buttons to reset the nation,” Rev. Owusu-Bempah stated.

Skin-to-Skin pandemic about to hit the world

0

Pastor Elvis Agyemang, the Convener of Alpha Hour and Founder of Grace Mountain Ministries, has prophesied the outbreak of another pandemic that could hit the world in 2025.

According to the respected man of God, this pandemic’s devastation will be significant unless fervent prayers are raised to prevent its occurrence.

Speaking at his church during the 31st December 2024 Watchnight Service, Pastor Elvis Agyemang revealed that the pandemic would spread rapidly through skin-to-skin contact.

“What the Lord showed me is that if we don’t take care, another pandemic is coming. The kind of sickness I saw that is about to hit the world involves the skin. Once an infected person touches you, you will also contract the disease.

“I am not a prophet, but I remember standing in church one Sunday evening and saying I see a sickness being created in a lab. Nobody took my words seriously. I was ignored until the outbreak of COVID-19. The Lord told me sorrow is coming, so present me to my people and tell them that the only safe haven is the one who came to carry the sorrow.”

Pastor Agyemang’s prophecy appears to be corroborated by the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah. He also prophesied the outbreak of a coronavirus-like disease.

Speaking to his congregation during the 31st December Watchnight Service, the controversial prophet stated that he saw in the spiritual realm numerous people worldwide being affected by this disease if prayers are not offered to avert it.

“Just like the coronavirus we experienced a few years back, if we don’t pray, we will face another deadly disease of a similar nature. I see a spirit hanging in the air, spewing the disease from its mouth, spreading it, and causing mass deaths. We must pray to avert this,” Rev. Owusu Bempah said.

Tinubu vows to take Nigeria to Promise Land

Despite the lamentations of economic hardship occasioned by the reforms introduced by his administration, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday assured the citizenry that he will take Nigeria to the promised land.

The President said that he has the confidence, competence, determination and capability to ensure that he build a nation that the people would be proud of.

This is as he said that his administration is encouraged by the National Assembly’s support over the last 19 months and is determined to take Nigeria to the Promised Land.

The President spoke while receiving Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, and former principal officers of the National Assembly at his Oyinkan Abayomi Drive residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The New Year homage, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, preceded a similar visit by members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

The President was quoted by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, as saying, “Nigerians are the heart of everything we are doing. We have come to serve. You have made my day by coming on this visit. Happy New Year. May God bless you and our country and give our nation more prosperity.

“The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us. It is for our tomorrow. It is for the future generation. Your commitment will yield that fruit for the babies yet unborn.

“Your commitment to value addition and bringing about the spirit of can do and must do is for all of us together.

“It is for us to build a nation. We have confidence and competence. The enslavers want us to be anything but enslaved people, but we say no. We are determined, we are capable, and we are resolute, and we will be there. We will take Nigeria to that Promised Land with you,” President Tinubu said at the meeting.

Acknowledging the encouragement from the lawmakers, the President pledged to work harder, embrace intellectual inquisitiveness, and make courageous decisions for national development.

“We have a saying in Yoruba that it is only a courageous dog that will capture the animal in the bush,” he added.

Senate President Akpabio commended the President for his courage and commitment to reform and assured him that the National Assembly is firmly behind his administration.

“On this journey of restoration, transformation and rebuilding the nation, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you and will stand by you,” he said.

Akpabio highlighted the positive economic outlook under the Tinubu administration, citing achievements such as oversubscription of Nigeria’s Eurobond, improvements in ease of doing business, and growing foreign investor confidence.

“We salute our men in uniform and commend you for your bold reforms. Investors remain interested in Nigeria because of your leadership, and we will continue to smile as the benefits materialise,” he added.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas commended the President for his respect and support of the National Assembly.

He said many key figures in the administration, including the President, Vice President, Wife of the President, Chief of Staff to the President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and several ministers, were all former members of the National Assembly

”The National Assembly should consider itself lucky, and to God be the glory, Mr President, the National Assembly today is more united than ever.

”The National Assembly is more fulfilled than ever before because there is nothing we have ever knocked on your door to request for the National Assembly that you have not obliged.

”This is historic. This is commendable. We need to thank you for that. I also want to thank you for bringing more succour to the poor.

”Nigerians had more challenges at the beginning of 2023, but as the year ended, more food and prosperity started pouring in. We believe 2025 will be the ultimate year where every Nigerian will be proud of this administration, ” he said.

McDan Aviation calls for dialogue following its closure

The management of McDan Group of Companies says it is committed to a dialogue to resolve the issues leading to the shutdown of their terminal at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra.

“Nevertheless, we remain committed to engaging in constructive dialogue to achieve a favorable resolution” the company stated.

The private Aviation company also expressed its disappointment in the Ghana Airport Company Limited’s (GACL) decision to shut down its private jet terminal at the airport.

“McDan Aviation expresses its disappointment regarding the recent decision by the Ghana Airport Company Limited to deny access to our terminal,” the company said in a press statement issued following its shutdown by GACL.

On Monday, December 30, GACL shut down McDan’s terminal over an outstanding debt of $3 million.

The company acknowledged its financial responsibilities but stated that these issues had not been actively discussed.

McDan also confirmed that “last week, we made an additional payment with the plan to continue payments from January 2025.”

The statement, signed by McDan’s Chief Executive Officer, Kwaku Ampromfi, clarified that the company does not owe GACL the reported $3 million.

“It is important to note, however, that McDan Aviation does not owe GACL $3,000,000.00 for the terminal, as has been erroneously reported,” the statement read.

The company further explained that it is currently involved in a land litigation case, of which GACL is aware. McDan added that this issue had been communicated to GACL, with a request to suspend payments until the court case is resolved.

McDan Aviation Hub is the first and only freight company in Ghana to obtain an air carrier licence for chartered cargo flights. It is currently a general sales agent (GSA) for several airlines and holds a Fixed Base Operations (FBO) licence for private jet operations at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport.

Discussions concerning faith, introspection, and the various ways individuals discover meaning have been triggered by his tale. The man, who requested anonymity, stated that, like the majority of Ghanaians, he had always attended church on New Year’s Eve. Worship, prayers, and aspirations for the upcoming year are all part of church services around this time. But he made the decision to deviate from the custom this year. He clarified, “People expect me to be at church like everyone else.” “But this year, I needed a different kind of connection—one that wasn’t based on expectations or pressure.”

He frequently thought that going to church on December 31st was more of a ritual than a time for introspection. He acknowledged that although church provides a spiritual setting, the rites occasionally prevented him from concentrating on what he really wanted, which was clarity and serenity. Instead of attending church, he went to a neighborhood pub to think about his life in a less regimented environment—not to drink or party. “I wasn’t there for the noise or the drinks at the pub,” he remarked. “I wanted to have my own space to think while still being around people.” Seeing others have fun and laugh made me appreciate the little things we often take for granted.

He revealed that he felt free to reflect on the previous year and his goals for the future in a laid-back setting without feeling hurried or judged. His choice elicited conflicting responses. His honesty was respected by some of his friends and family, while others were distressed, believing he had given up his religion. He stated, “Church is great, but we all connect with God in different ways.” “I just needed something new this year.” He said, “What’s in your heart matters more than where you are.”

High Court dismisses NDC’s jurisdictional objection in mandamus case

0

File photo of court gavel File photo of court gavel

An Accra High Court has dismissed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear a mandamus application filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to a report by citinewsroom.com.

Justice Forson Agyapong, presiding over the case, ruled that the matter was not an election petition, as argued by the NDC’s counsel, Godwin Tameklo.

He emphasised that the mandamus application does not fall within the framework of challenging the validity of election results under the Representation of People Law, PNDCL 284.

The NDC had argued that the application sought to invalidate election results through a procedure other than the prescribed election petition.

The report noted that Godwin Tameklo asserted that sections 16 and 20 of PNDCL 284 mandate that election results can only be contested via a petition, and that any reliance on judicial review, such as a writ of mandamus, circumvented the evidence-based approach outlined in the law.

He further argued that these statutory provisions should supersede Order 54 of C.I. 47, which allows judicial review applications.

The ongoing legal battle centers on disputed results in constituencies such as Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central.

The Supreme Court had earlier overturned a High Court ruling that favored the NPP, directing the EC to re-collate results in constituencies where initial declarations were made in favor of the NDC.

Following the re-collation, the EC declared NPP candidates as winners in seven constituencies, sparking the current controversy.

The application seeks to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate results in contentious constituencies.

Black Stars’ 2024 performance in retrospect

The prophecy comes after a challenging period for Ghana’s senior men’s football team.

Their 2024 campaign was marred by poor performances, managing only two victories throughout the year, per ESPN.

The team’s struggles were highlighted by their failure to secure a spot in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Finishing at the bottom of their qualifying group, they failed to register a single win and netted just three goals across the series.

2026 World Cup hopes still alive

Despite these setbacks, the Black Stars’ performances in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers have kept their hopes alive.

Ghana’s two victories last year came in this campaign, securing wins against Mali and the Central African Republic.

“It Is Not The Duty Of This Court To Make A Determination On Who Won An Election

According to MyJoyOnline, the legal battle over the declaration of Ebi Bright as the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary election continues to unfold, with both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presenting their cases in court on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

The case, which hinges on allegations of irregularities and incomplete collation of results, saw spirited arguments from both legal teams. Counsel for the NDC, Godwin Tameklo, asserted that the declaration of Ebi Bright as the winner was both valid and lawful. He argued that even the NPP’s affidavit acknowledged that a declaration was made, despite claims that results from two polling stations were excluded.

Tameklo referred to a letter written by one of the NPP applicants, Charles Forson, urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to instruct the returning officer to properly collate and declare results. He emphasized that the court’s role is not to determine the winner of an election but to assess whether proper legal processes were followed.

“It is not the duty of this court to make a determination on who won an election. They are inviting the court onto a slippery slope,” Tameklo said. He further argued that once results have been declared, dissatisfied parties cannot demand re-collation, questioning the EC’s suggestion that results could be revisited after a formal declaration.

In contrast, NPP counsel Gary Nimako Marfo maintained that the collation process was incomplete due to alleged acts of intimidation and irregularities. Marfo presented a video in court purportedly showing an unauthorized individual declaring the election results. According to Marfo, the man in the video was not the official returning officer, Mr. Kwesi Brobbey.

The video also featured NDC Deputy National Communications Officer Malik Basintale stating, “Our issue is not with the police, our issue is with the EC Officer. We will bring him out to declare Ebi Bright, whether he likes it or not. If the NPP does not like it, they can go to court.”

Marfo argued that such incidents undermine electoral integrity and set a dangerous precedent. “If this issue is not properly addressed, it could open the door for unauthorized individuals to manipulate election outcomes at collation centers,” he warned.

On its part, the Electoral Commission, represented by counsel Justin Amenuvor, called on the court to issue clear directives to allow the EC to complete the collation process in accordance with Constitutional Instrument (C.I 127).

Amenuvor stressed the importance of adhering strictly to electoral guidelines, warning of the potential consequences if the court failed to intervene. “If this court does not grant the necessary orders for the EC to finalize the collation process under the conditions outlined by law, it will set a troubling precedent for our democracy,” he said.
