A recent video circulating on social media has shed light on the severe challenges some healthcare professionals face in rural areas of Ghana while striving to provide care to citizens.

The video, making rounds online on February 16, 2025, shows two dedicated health workers wading through a river to reach a remote community.

In the process, their path was obstructed by a dilapidated wooden bridge.

The video that has since stirred reactions online also captures another health worker taking off his trousers to go through the river in order to reach his destination.

A voice, assumed to be that of a young boy, was also heard offering guidance to the health worker on how to cross the river safely.

“Step in slowly, and your steps must be slow as well, or you might slip and fall,” the boy advised.

This incident, which is one of many across the country, highlights the broader challenges of healthcare delivery in remote communities.

A staunch supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Frank Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as ‘Appiah Stadium’, has publicly expressed his desire to secure an appointment as head of security in an oil and gas company in Ghana.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Appiah Stadium stated that whenever he visits Accra, he seeks an opportunity to meet with former President John Dramani Mahama to remind him of his aspirations to serve in his government.

“Whenever I come to Accra, I want to get close to the President to remind him, in case there is a vacancy, so he remembers me for an appointment. Recently, I went to the Jubilee House because the President asked me to see him. I walked with him to his car before he drove off alongside the Vice President, and I engaged in a chat with him.

“I want to either get an appointment at Ghana Gas or as head of security in the oil and gas sector. If I don’t get an appointment, people will mock me because of my closeness to him. I want to be appointed because of the sacrifices I have made. If I were living with him in the Jubilee House, it wouldn’t be news because of my close association with him,” he said in a recent interview on Royal TV on February 11, 2025.

Appiah Stadium reiterated his admiration for Mahama but maintained that he was pursuing an appointment to justify his long-time loyalty.

“Mahama is a good person, but as I have said before, even if I had the opportunity to meet him every day, I wouldn’t do that.

“People are watching me and asking what I have gained from all my support. So, if I don’t get closer to him, I won’t get my share of the cake,” he added.

Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda has reclaimed the half-marathon world record that he held from 2021 to 2024 Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda has reclaimed the half-marathon world record that he held from 2021 to 2024

Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo has become the first person to break the 57-minute barrier for the half-marathon, clocking a stunning new world record time of 56 minutes, 42 seconds in Barcelona.

The 24-year-old set the record at the World Athletics Gold Label road race on Sunday.

Kiplimo is a two-time world cross-country champion who held the half-marathon record from 2021 to 2024. He reclaimed it by slashing 48 seconds off the previous record of 57:30, set by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha in Valencia in October.

It is the greatest single improvement on the men’s world half-marathon record.

Racing in ideal weather conditions of 13 degrees Celsius (55 degrees Fahrenheit) with no wind, Kiplimo also set a world best of 39:47 for 15km (9.3 miles) en route to the half-marathon record.

“I am very excited about what I did today,” said Kiplimo, who made his Olympic debut in the 5,000m race in Rio de Janeiro when he was just 15.

“I started strong, I wanted to have a great race, but I didn’t expect to break the world record.

“As the kilometres passed and I saw that I was going at record pace, I told myself that I had to maintain that pace no matter what it took.”
