Speaking at the event, President-elect Mahama lauded Dr. Danso Adjei as a beacon of entrepreneurial excellence.

Recognized by the outgoing President: The Grand Medal Award

In another development, just a few days to the end of the year, Dr. Danso Adjei was honored and presented with the Grand Medal Award by the outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the National Honours and Awards Ceremony.

Tema ECG loses cables to fire

0

The Tema Region of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has suffered from a fire incident that has gutted parts of its major cables running behind the Lube Oil Company in Tema, in the Greater Accra Region.

The fire, which was reportedly seen around 5 pm on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, has ravaged the cables, which will need to be replaced as they can not be salvaged.

This incident caused temporary power cuts to customers in areas such as Adjetey Ansah, the Naval Quarters, Aunty Kate, Leonardo, and Bankuman, some of whom unfortunately had their power cut unresolved till the following day. However, as of the morning of Wednesday, January 1, 2025, all affected customers had their power supply restored.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Region of the power distributor, Ms. Sakyiwaa Mensah, appreciated the Ghana National Fire Service for their timely intervention in curtailing the fire.

Ms. Mensah was asked about the cost of the damaged cables, to which she said that “the extent of damage is still being assessed. Until this assessment is done, it will be difficult for us to ascertain the cost associated. ”

She, however, added that “it will be an appreciable cost as the damage is major.” She also apologised to the affected customers who had no power to usher in the new year due to this fire incident.

The PRO further cautioned the public generally to be careful of how open fire is handled in such times of dry weather and bushes as the bushes can easily catch fire and end up causing massive property damage, and affect businesses.

Former NPP Deputy Organiser Arrested..See Reason

0

This report highlights a disturbing case of large-scale fraud in Ghana, targeting vulnerable jobseekers with promises of employment in the country’s security services. Kojo Opei, a former deputy organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Awutu Senya West constituency, allegedly exploited his political connections to deceive over 60 individuals, defrauding them of a staggering 10 billion Ghana cedis.

The victims’ stories paint a clear picture of desperation and betrayal. They trusted Opei, believing in his claimed connections to high-ranking officials and institutions, including Ghana’s presidential residence. The sums involved—ranging from 7,000 to 450,000 Ghana cedis—show the extent of financial harm caused, as many victims spent life savings or borrowed money to pay for promised jobs that never materialized.

This case underscores several critical issues:

1. Exploitation of Vulnerability: Jobseekers, especially those looking for positions in prestigious government sectors, are often targets for fraudsters due to the competitive nature of recruitment.

2. Integrity of Recruitment Processes: The alleged fraud raises questions about transparency and fairness in Ghana’s security services’ hiring practices. Perceived insider connections can create a breeding ground for scams.

3. The Role of Political Figures: Opei’s former political position may have lent credibility to his claims, making it easier for him to exploit trust.

4. Public Awareness and Prevention: This incident serves as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the need for public education about recognizing and avoiding fraudulent schemes.

5. Need for Accountability and Reform: The incident highlights the urgent need for stronger oversight and reforms to prevent similar scams in the future.

As authorities investigate and prosecute Opei, this case should prompt a broader conversation about improving governance, fostering trust in public institutions, and protecting citizens from such predatory practices. Victims coming forward and sharing their stories is a significant step toward justice and systemic change.

I Was Called To Service A Big NPP Man Because I’m Part Of The Organization — NPP Lady

0

A woman who identifies as a staunch supporter and active member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has shared a shocking and thought-provoking account of her experience within the organization. Speaking in confidence, the NPP lady revealed how she was allegedly called upon to render personal services to a high-ranking male member of the party, simply because of her affiliation with the group.

According to her, the request was made with the implication that her loyalty to the party demanded such sacrifices. While she did not disclose the specific nature of the “service” she was asked to provide, her statement has sparked a wave of speculation and heated debate. “I was called to service a ‘big’ NPP man because I’m part of the organization,” she said, emphasizing her dismay at the audacity of the request. “Being a member of the party doesn’t mean I should compromise my dignity or personal boundaries.”

Her revelations have ignited discussions about the treatment of women within political organizations and the pressures they face to conform to unethical demands. Many have questioned whether such practices are systemic within the NPP or other political parties.

The story has also drawn attention to the broader issue of gender inequality in politics, where women often face exploitation or marginalization. Several women’s advocacy groups have condemned the alleged incident, calling on political parties to prioritize the protection and empowerment of female members.

“This is unacceptable and goes against the values of any democratic institution,” said one activist. “We urge political organizations to investigate such claims and ensure that women are treated with respect and dignity.”

The NPP has yet to issue a formal statement addressing the allegations. However, some members have dismissed the claims as baseless, accusing detractors of attempting to tarnish the party’s reputation.

Despite the controversy, the NPP lady remains resolute in her call for accountability. “We must speak out against such behavior to protect others who may find themselves in similar situations,” she said.

As the story continues to unfold, it serves as a reminder of the need for transparency, accountability, and a commitment to ethical practices in all spheres of leadership. Political parties must ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all members, regardless of gender.

This incident has become a wake-up call for political organizations to address the systemic challenges women face and build a culture of respect and equality.

Mandamus application: The people’s will must stand

0

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabyna Aubynn, has conveyed her optimism regarding a favourable ruling from the High Court.

She asserted that no efforts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will succeed, expressing confidence that she will ultimately be recognized as the winner.

Ewurabyna Aubynn was declared the MP-elect for the constituency following a contentious situation at the Greater Accra Regional Collation Centre.

This declaration occurred on December 10, 2024, after the results from 219 out of 281 polling stations had been compiled.

Her comments follow the High Court’s adjournment to January 4, 2025, to deliver its ruling on the mandamus application filed by the NPP concerning the constituencies of Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.

Speaking to journalists after the court hearing on January 1, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North said, “Delay is not denial, we were all in the courtroom, it’s been 6 hours of sitting. And no matter how the NPP decides to twist and turn issues, we are all privy to events.

“So, I have no doubt that the will of the people will still stand. Our counsel has been doing a brilliant job. I mean the whole team has been doing a brilliant job.”

This decision follows the court’s earlier dismissal of an objection by the NDC, which questioned the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the application.

Lawyers for the NPP argued that the Electoral Commission (EC) should be compelled to complete the collation of results in the affected constituencies.

Gary Nimako, leading the team of lawyers for the NPP candidates, stated that the EC had failed to complete the collation process between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

Mahama’s 24-hour economy will be a game changer for 2025

0

The Head Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in Adaklu Kodzobi, Rev. Peter Etsey, has expressed optimism about the new year, citing the 24-Hour Economy Policy promised by the incoming government led by John Dramani Mahama as a potential game-changer for boosting productivity in Ghana.

The 24-Hour Economy Policy is a flagship programme proposed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during their campaign for the December 7, 2024, general election.

According to the NDC, the policy aims to enable the country’s economy to operate continuously, ensuring that businesses, institutions, and state agencies provide round-the-clock services to their customers.

Rev. Peter Etsey believes that Ghanaians, having endured significant challenges, will see transformative changes in their lives in 2025, particularly with the successful implementation of such a policy.

“We have gone through a lot in the previous years. But now that we have even changed government, I am expecting that the lives of people shall change this year. People have been crying, things are not well. But this year I am seeing the beginning of greater things.

“So things will change. People’s destinies will change. People’s lives will change for the better for those who are looking for a job. But because of the 24-hour economy, I am expecting that those who have been looking for a job for several years now will get their job. So things will be better this year,” he stated.

Desmond Ofei revamps Black Satellites scouting ahead of 2025 U20 AFCON

0

Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei

Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei has unveiled a revamped scouting strategy aimed at assembling a competitive squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

The Ghana U20 team secured their place in the tournament after finishing as runners-up in the WAFU Zone B Championship, marking a remarkable turnaround under Ofei’s leadership.

Ofei inherited a team that had failed to qualify for the previous edition of the U20 AFCON. However, his tenure has brought about a transformation, with the team notably winning gold at the 2023 African Games.

In an interview with 3Sports, Ofei emphasized the importance of expanding the scouting network to ensure that every eligible talent has an opportunity to represent Ghana.

“To build a competitive and well-rounded U20 national team, it is essential to cast a wide scouting net that encompasses domestic leagues, regional competitions, and international talent pools. Our strategy outlines a comprehensive plan to identify and invite top talent for observation,” Ofei stated.

Ofei’s strategy includes scouting players from the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, and RFA leagues, alongside those who excelled during the qualifiers. Players from the squad that clinched gold at the African Games will also be reassessed, while international talents will be integrated to create a balanced team.

“We will broaden the scouting base to track young players globally, ensuring that we identify the best talents capable of excelling at the continental and international levels,” Ofei explained.

The selection process will focus on five key attributes: technical ability, tactical awareness, physical attributes, mentality and character, and growth potential.

Ofei highlighted the critical role of partnerships with local clubs, academies, and overseas agents in identifying and nurturing talent.

“By utilizing this multi-faceted approach, we can ensure that the U20 national team is well-equipped with the best available talent, both domestically and abroad, to compete at the highest level,” he concluded.

The Black Satellites aim to replicate their 2021 U20 AFCON success and secure qualification for the FIFA U20 World Cup—a feat Ghana has not achieved since 2015.

The Black Satellites remain the only African side to have won the U20 World Cup, achieving the historic feat in 2009.
