Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly not had access to the £2.5 billion derived from the sale of the club in 2022.

According to Sky Sports, the Russian billionaire has not accessed the money in three years, as his UK account remains frozen.

The report suggests that the UK government’s intended use of the funds contradicts Abramovich’s wishes, as he wants the money to benefit “all victims of the war”, which would include Russians.

Meanwhile, the UK government insists the funds should be directed toward “humanitarian causes in Ukraine.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed the UK government’s stance on the matter.

“This government is working hard to ensure the proceeds from the sale of Chelsea FC reach humanitarian causes in Ukraine as quickly as possible.”

The spokesperson also affirmed that Abramovich’s account remains frozen while they work on disbursing the money.

“The proceeds are currently frozen in a UK bank account while a new independent foundation is established to manage and distribute the funds.

“UK officials continue to hold discussions with Mr. Abramovich’s representatives, experts, and international partners, and we will double down on our efforts to reach a resolution,” he added.

Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea after 19 years of ownership due to his close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, over alleged fraud to the tune of N700 billion.

Investigation by New Telegraph revealed that Emmanuel was taken into custody shortly after appearing at the corporate headquarters of the anti-graft agency in Abuja, based on an earlier invitation.

Highly-placed establishment sources, who spoke in confidence with this newspaper, said the former governor will answer questions bordering on alleged money laundering, diversion of funds and stealing preferred against him by Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NCAT).

He was said to have arrived at the Commission’s head office at about 12:30pm. One of the informed sources said:

“The Commission’s investigations have uncovered the (alleged) withdrawal of N31 billion in cash in one single account. The name of the account is ‘Office of the Governor’. The money was withdrawn in cash progressively between 2019 and 2023.

“The petitioner alleged that Emmanuel received N3 trillion from the Federation Account in eight years but left a debt profile of N500 billion and unpaid ongoing projects worth N300 billion. He was also alleged to be unable to account for N700 billion.

“The EFCC’s investigations are ongoing with Emmanuel being grilled by operatives.” EFCC’s Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, could not be reached when contacted.

You Are Not My Husband, I Do What I Want And Dress How I Want – Delay Blasts Man Who Told Her To Dress Decently

0

Ghanaian media personality and successful entrepreneur, Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, has found herself in the middle of a heated social media exchange after a fan criticised her choice of clothing during a live session.

Delay, who was engaging her followers online while promoting some products, looked stunning as she confidently showcased the items.

However, instead of focusing on her promotional efforts, some fans were more interested in her outfit.

She wore a form-fitting dress that accentuated her curves and revealed a bit of cleavage—a choice that did not sit well with a particular social media user.

The concerned fan questioned why Delay had chosen to wear such an outfit instead of opting for a more modest look. Going a step further, he insinuated that she was dressing in a revealing manner because she was actively seeking a husband.

Unamused by the unsolicited commentary, Delay did not hold back in her response. She swiftly shut down the remark, making it clear that her choices were hers alone and that no one, especially not a stranger on the internet, had the right to police how she dressed.

“You are not my husband to tell me how to dress. I make my own money, eat what I want, go where I want, and dress how I want. Mind your business!” she fired back.

Her response quickly gained traction online, with many of her fans and supporters applauding her for standing her ground.

Nikki Samonas Schools Men On Women’s Choices

Nikki Samonas

Actress Nikki Samonas has schooled men on the qualities women prioritize when considering a marriage proposal, with responsibility topping the list.

Speaking on Pure Fm she explained that women are increasingly mindful of a man’s sense of responsibility, viewing it as a critical factor in their decision to commit to a lifelong partnership.

She emphasized that responsibility extends beyond just taking care of oneself but also encompasses being dependable in a relationship, particularly when it comes to future family life.

“A sense of responsibility is key,” Samonas stated. “It’s about how you handle your character, your attitude, your financial stability, and even how you treat your wife and children in the future. All of this falls under being responsible.”

The actress made it clear that a man’s role in the relationship goes beyond just courting a woman. “A man is the one who pursues a woman, and he should be in a position to take care of himself, his wife, and the children that may come out of the marriage,” she continued.

“While a woman will certainly support her partner, it is ultimately the man’s responsibility to ensure everything is in order.”

Communication also featured prominently in Nikki Samonas’s discussion. While stressing its importance, she clarified that it’s not just about speaking but ensuring clear, effective communication. She highlighted how misunderstandings in a relationship can stem from poor communication and urged men to be mindful of how they express their thoughts to their wives.

“Communication is the second most important quality,” she added. “It’s essential that a man communicates in a way his wife can easily understand. If he doesn’t communicate properly, it will lead to issues in the relationship. A relationship without effective communication is bound to face challenges.”

IN COMMEMORATION of the 79th birthday of the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the Undaglow Empowerment Network in collaboration with the Aliu Mahama Foundation have made a donation to the Cardio Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Items donated included five (5) cartons of Richoco, cartons of Lipton, five (5) cartons of medium-sized liquid soap, cartons of antibacterial hand liquid soap and dustbins.

Other items included 15 packs of Goldman brown sugar, 10 cartons of Don Simon, cartons of hand sanitizer, and cartons of medical gloves, 30 packs of toilet roll, 3 cartons of nose mask, 10 cartons of 5 litre-liquid soap, 12 packs of Jumbo size tissue, 100 packs of bottled water, and 20 cartons of milk, to manage the cardio centre.

Founder of Undaglow Empowerment Network, Fayad Aliu Mahama, recalled the fond memories of the hospital staff’s dedication and support during the late Vice President’s and his wife’s numerous admissions.

“3rd March is a very special day, as it marks the birthday of my late father. As we celebrate his 79th birthday, we recognise the importance of supporting health institutions like the Cardio Centre. The Cardio Centre holds a sacred place in our hearts, as both my parents received care here during their times of need,” he added.

Executive Director of Aliu Mahama Foundation, Dr. Samuel K. Frimpong said that the donation is a token of appreciation for the tireless efforts of the Cardio Centre’s staff, stating that the facility will always hold a special place, “and we look forward to continuing our relationship with this esteemed institution.”

Director of National Cardiothoracic Centre, Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, on his part, noted that the centre prides itself on providing world-class cardio care, however, the high cost of its services makes it challenging for the average Ghanaian to access them.

“We rely heavily on donations from individuals, NGOs, corporate institutions, and philanthropists to make our services more affordable. In fact, over 95% of our patients require sponsorship or funding from external sources.

“This highlights the importance of community support in ensuring that our services remain accessible to all,” he stated.

“We urge everyone to rise and support each other in providing quality healthcare. Let us work together to establish well-founded hospitals that care for the ordinary person, regardless of their background or financial means,” he added.

‘Terminator One Strikes Again’ – Reactions After President Mahama Sacks Forestry Workers

0

Hundreds of Ghanaian youth employed under the Youth in Afforestation/Reforestation Project (YAP) are facing uncertainty following a directive from the Forestry Commission to disengage them from the program. The news, which surfaced through an official letter dated February 28, 2025, has sparked outrage among affected workers and the general public.

The letter, referencing communication from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR), informed beneficiaries that they would be formally disengaged from the YAP effective March 31, 2025. The termination was based on the Forestry Commission citing Article 27 of the Collective Agreement for non-management staff. “You are, therefore, requested upon receipt of this letter to hand over all Forestry Commission’s property in your possession to the District Manager, who is to ensure your exit by March 31, 2025,” the letter read.

The move has been met with frustration and disappointment among affected workers, who argue that the program was a major source of employment for Ghanaian youth. Many took to social media to express their discontent, with some branding the decision as heartless. The phrase “Terminator One Strikes Again” quickly began trending, a reference to former President John Mahama’s history of mass dismissals during his previous tenure in office.

“We dedicated our time and energy to reforesting degraded lands across the country, and this is how they repay us? What happens to all the young people who depended on this job?” an aggrieved worker lamented.

Others called for immediate intervention from the government to either reinstate them or provide alternative opportunities.

In response to the backlash, the Forestry Commission assured affected workers that it was working closely with the Ministry of Finance to ensure that all outstanding allowances are paid. “Kindly note that Forestry Commission Management is working with our sector Ministry and the Ministry of Finance to settle all due outstanding beneficiary allowances in due course,” the statement added.

KBTH CEO Tours Hospital Project Sites

The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, accompanied by his management team, conducted a site tour to assess the progress of ongoing projects within the hospital.

The Ag. CEO and his team kicked off their tour with a visit to the maternity ward, where they inspected the ongoing project.

According to the Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Isaac Koranteng, the maternity ward building, despite its age, has a strong foundation due to its robust pillars and beams. However, its exterior has deteriorated over time, and after considering options, including constructing a new building, they decided to renovate the existing structure in collaboration with the CEO and relevant authorities, due to the challenge of securing a suitable plot of land.

“We have been assured that the assessment and renovation will be completed on schedule, and it is expected to be completed within six months. Despite the ongoing work, our patient care and activities will continue uninterrupted, as the renovation is primarily external,” he added.

Dr. Owusu-Sekyere reiterated that, the project commenced two months ago and has made significant progress, completing approximately 80% of the work.

“Due to changes in circumstances, we are investing in refurbishing the existing building. The initial renovation cost was estimated at GH¢3.5 million, but with additional requirements, the total cost is now expected to range from GH¢4 million to GH¢5 million,” he disclosed.

Notably, he stated that, they are also procuring three new lifts, one for each of the main, surgical, and medical blocks. This upgrade aims to resolve the recurring issue of lift breakdowns. The manufacturers estimate a minimum of three months for specifications, five weeks for delivery, and two weeks for installation.

“A partnership has been established to fund the installation of three new lifts. Initially, the donated funds were earmarked for dialysis machines, but with the government’s provision of 30 dialysis machines, we engaged in discussions with our partners and mutually agreed to redirect the funds to upgrade the hospital’s lift system,” he indicated.

Also, a tour visit was made at the Oxygen Plant, where the Ag. CEO said, apparently, to highlight the difference between the piping system’s limitations and the capabilities of the cylinders, they have utilised a manifold system. This manifold is connected to various wards throughout the hospital. Oxygen cylinders are filled and connected to the manifold, which enables the distribution of Oxygen to the respective wards.

He disclosed that, the Oxygen Plant with the capacity of 80 Newton metre cubic per hour was donated by the Ministry of Health.

He emphasised that, one of the challenges they face is the frequent power fluctuations in their system. Periodically, a sudden power surge occurs, causing equipment failure and resulting in a significant shortage of Oxygen.

He stressed that, the team visit to Korle Bu is part of their routine rounds to address Oxygen supply challenges, which often attract media attention, and assured the public that Korle Bu has an Oxygen Plant, which, despite occasional challenges, can provide a reliable Oxygen supply with proper maintenance.

“A private Oxygen Plant is being integrated to supplement our existing supply, however, its implementation has been hindered by the theft of copper pipes,” he disclosed.

He explained that, repairs are nearing completion, with testing underway to ensure no leakage, and once completed, the entrance and exit will be secured to prevent theft, “this will pave the way for the second Oxygen Plant, part of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, to come online.”

Other site visits were conducted to monitor progress on various projects. The sites visited included: the SSNIT flat residential area, where construction of the perimeter wall is currently underway, Ward H (Orthopaedics Ward), and Ward E.

Three ‘completed’ hospitals need $8m each – Health Ministry

0

The Ministry of Health says the three Agenda 111 hospitals the New Patriotic Party Minority claims to be completed is 95 per cent complete.

The NPP had said that the Trede, Kokoben, and Ahanta hospitals were fully completed and operational.

But the Ministry in a statement on Tuesday March 4 clarified that the projects remain unfinished, noting that $8.03m was required to complete each.

According to the Ministry, no medical equipment has been installed in the hospitals, and some laboratory facilities are still under construction.

Furthermore, these hospitals have not yet been handed over to the Ghana Health Service for operation, highlighting the gap between the commissioning ceremony and the actual readiness of the facilities.

This expenditure required is expected to cover the installation of necessary medical equipment and the completion of remaining construction work.

“Although Trede, Kokoben, and Ahanta hospitals were commissioned by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the project is still under construction with an overall completion rate of 95%.

No medical equipment has been installed, and some laboratory facilities are still under construction. The hospitals have not been handed over to the Ghana Health Service for operation. The estimated cost to make Trede, Kokoben and Ahantan facilities operational is $8.03 million each.”
