“It’s hard work that will make the people maintain me for a long time, and that hard work starts today. I promise my constituents that we will make Dome/Kwabenya a place everyone will love to be,” she stated.

0

In a significant boost to Ghana’s economic prospects, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that the country’s economy is witnessing a remarkable recovery.

The president’s assertion is backed by key economic growth indicators, which show a strong 7.2% growth rate achieved in the third quarter of 2024.

Background of Economic Challenges

Ghana’s economy has faced significant challenges in recent years, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a devastating impact on the country’s economic growth.
The pandemic led to a decline in economic activity, resulting in a slowdown in growth.

However, the government’s strategic efforts to steer the economy back on track have begun to yield positive results.

Economic Growth Indicators

According to President Akufo-Addo, the 7.2% growth rate achieved in the third quarter of 2024 is a testament to the government’s efforts to revitalize the economy.

The overall economic growth rate for the year is projected at 6.8%, a significant improvement from previous years.

President’s Final New Year Message

In his final New Year message to the nation, President Akufo-Addo commended the resilience of the Ghanaian people and the government’s strategic efforts in steering the economy back to a growth trajectory.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the country but expressed optimism about the future.

“These achievements are not just numbers or statistics. They are stories of life changed and futures made brighter,” the president said.

“But I also acknowledge the challenges we have faced. The road has not always been smooth, and there have been times of difficulty and sacrifice.”

Call to Action

However, President Akufo-Addo encouraged citizens to hold on to the hope that has carried them this far.

He urged Ghanaians to remain united and work towards a stronger, more prosperous nation.

“As we step into 2025, I encourage us all to hold on to the hope that’s carried us this far,” the president said.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye makes 2 heartfelt appeals to God ahead of NDC’s inauguration

0

Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has made two heartfelt appeals to God as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares for its inauguration on January 7, 2025.

Speaking with deep gratitude and faith during crossover service at Nigel Gaisie’s Prophetic Hill Chapel, he expressed his reliance on divine guidance for the journey ahead.

He reflected on the party’s hard-fought victory, acknowledging the mercy of God in their success.

“The God who has been merciful to us will continue to show us mercy. We worked hard, but Bible say chariots are prepared for battle, but victory is from God. We have worked before, harder than this time but we didn’t win. This time God has given us a victory beyond all victories”.

Nonetheless, Mr Vanderpuye further made two principal appeals to God; to grant the party wisdom and guidance to successfully lead the nation of over 34.12 million people.

He also prayed that NDC-led government will be one that will glorify God with all their actions and bring ease to its subjects.

Acknowledging that the government will not be perfect, the politician revealed they will seek prayers to navigate their tenure with integrity.

Mr Vanderpuye described the election outcome as a testament to God’s faithfulness, declaring that it serves as proof that the God they serve lives by His word.

He assured that the NDC would remain committed to acknowledging God’s role in their victory. “We will not forget the Lord that led us to the promised land. We shall never, not for a minute, forget God,” he remarked.

The Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, has stated that he has no intention to lobby President-elect John Dramani Mahama for a ministerial appointment or any position in his incoming administration.

According to him, his relationship with the President-elect goes beyond the need for lobbying, and he will be content with any role Mahama assigns to him.

In an interview on GHOne TV on Wednesday, January 1, 2024, the MP expressed confidence in John Mahama’s leadership and noted that he had anticipated his return to the presidency.

Recounting a conversation with Mahama on election day, he said, “I told him to go and start preparing his ministerial list because he had won. Not long after, he was announced the President.”

Yusif Sulemana dismissed the need for him to lobby, explaining that he is a close ally of the President-elect.

“Who do I lobby? I’m always with the man. Three days ago, I was with him. Consistently, I’m around him. He knows me. Wherever he decides to put me, that’s fine. If he wants me to remain in Parliament, I have no problem with that”, he stated.

Touching on the ORAL team constituted to recover state property unlawfully acquired by officials of the outgoing government he stated that it is well-positioned to recover unlawfully acquired state properties, despite public commentary.

“People should know that John Mahama is an experienced person. He’s been there before, so they are allowed to make their comments”, he noted.

Ghana Mineworkers’ Union commends gov’t for issuing mining leases to Heath Goldfields, rejects claims from FGR/Blue Gold

0

The Ghana Mineworkers’ Union has applauded the government of Ghana for its decisive and commendable action in awarding the mining leases for the Bogoso/Prestea Mines to Heath Goldfields.

The union expressed its support for the government’s move, emphasizing that it would help revitalize the mines and safeguard the livelihoods of workers in the region.

In a statement issued on Monday, the union affirmed its commitment to working with Heath Goldfields and other stakeholders to ensure the prosperity of the Bogoso/Prestea Mines.

The union highlighted that its priority is the growth of the local economy and the well-being of its members, whose jobs have been at risk due to the challenges facing the mines.

“The Ghana Mineworkers’ Union is now convinced that the Bogoso/Prestea Mines are in a good position to receive the needed capitalization that will revamp the mines and put them on the path of growth and sustainability,” the union said.

The union also took the opportunity to address claims made by Future Global Resources (FGR), the previous owners of the Bogoso/Prestea Mines, and their associates, Blue Gold International.
Since the government issued the leases to Heath Goldfields in November 2024, FGR/Blue Gold has made various claims against the government’s decision.

However, the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union strongly rejected these claims, stating that they were misleading and aimed at undermining efforts to secure the future of the mines.
“We reject all claims orchestrated by FGR/Blue Gold that seek to impugn the efforts of the Government of Ghana and other stakeholders in the revival of the Bogoso/Prestea Mines,” the union asserted.

“The manoeuvrings of FGR/Blue Gold are disruptive and retrogressive, aimed only at destroying the mines, worsening the living conditions of workers and their families, and collapsing local businesses.”

The union also reminded the public of the facts surrounding the termination of the mining leases held by FGR. FGR acquired the Bogoso/Prestea Mines in 2020 but ceased operations in December 2023 due to financial difficulties.

The company faced significant debts, including $60 million owed to various entities such as the Volta River Authority, GRIDCO, and the Ghana Revenue Authority.

In addition, the mines experienced operational challenges, including a lack of power supply, which led to the cessation of production and severe hardship for workers.

In response to petitions from the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union, the Minerals Commission, and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the government took the necessary legal steps to terminate FGR’s mining lease and issue new leases to Heath Goldfields.

The union fully supported the government’s actions, stating that FGR’s inability to inject capital into the business left no other viable option.

The Ghana Mineworkers’ Union expressed its confidence in the future of the Bogoso/Prestea Mines under Heath Goldfields.

The union remains committed to collaborating with the government, Heath Goldfields, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful turnaround of the mines, which is crucial for the welfare of workers and the local communities.

In conclusion, the union reiterated its strong support for the government’s decision, stating: “We stand fully with the decision of the Government of Ghana and commit to working with Heath Goldfields and all other relevant stakeholders to ensure the full realization of the government’s goal of revamping the Bogoso and Prestea Mines for the greater good of all stakeholders.”

Dr. Juliet Amanor honoured at Youth Excellence Awards Africa 2024

0

Tabora-Lapaz branch head of Abotare Clinic Dr. Juliet Sakyibea Amanor has been adjudged the winner of the category of award for health and wellness in this year’s Youth Excellence Awards Africa 2024.

Dr. Juliet Sakyibea Amanor swapped this award from Dr. Louisa Ansong who won this award in 2023 the wife of the Jejereje fame dancehall artist Stonebwoy.

The facility, which specializes in acupressure to cure nerves and other disorders, was recognized in Ghana for its kin interest in heart-related conditions, especially in this era of climate change.

Acupressure is a major source of health and wellness treatment used to cure many health conditions without the intake of medicine.

Abotare Clinic has been operating three branches in the country- Tema, Abeka Lapaz, and Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Since it began operating 25 years ago, the clinic is said to have become one of the leading health centres in the country, providing effective and high-quality healthcare for patients, especially those with nervous conditions.

They have also specialized in acute and chronic diseases such as stroke, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, infertility, prostate disorder, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.

According to the organizers, people’s views on health, no matter where they are in the world, are shaped by their cultural and traditional beliefs.

Therefore, there is no doubt that many people in Ghana fully accept modern, science-based medicine, but traditional medicine is still held in high regard, as it gives validity to the overall health experience

Dr. Juliet Sakyibea Amanor in an interview after the awards expressed his profound gratitude to the organizers for recognizing her efforts in promoting quality and affordable health care through Acupressure

She mentioned that it is her prayer that God will continue to strengthen her to reach out to more patients who need help in her field of treatment.

“I know this award is to also urge me to reach out to save more lives and be more committed to ensuring that the people of Ghana and beyond benefit from our modernized field of treatment.

Acupressure is said to be one treatment that supports the government’s efforts to keep the economy moving in terms of healthcare delivery, employment, research, exports, etc.

However, she appealed to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to strengthen the herbal and alternative industry department of the Ministry of Health so that they can promote their form of healing and relieve pressure in the orthodox healthcare industry.

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to postpone the January 3, 2024 re-opening date for senior high schools until the government has settled the outstanding debt for food and operations.

In a statement issued on December 31, 2024, the school heads said the government has failed to respond to three appeals since August 2024 for payment of arrears covering perishables, recurrent fees, and food transportation costs.

The National Secretary of CHASS, Baro Primus has therefore directed all regional branches to notify parents of the potential delay through parent associations.

The school heads warned that members who defy the directive will face sanctions for betraying their collective stance.

This is now the fourth appeal to education authorities over the unpaid arrears, with previous letters sent in August, November, and December 2024, the statement said .

‘Otto Addo is doing well as Black Stars coach’

Samuel Aboabire, Executive Council Member of the GFA Samuel Aboabire, Executive Council Member of the GFA

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Samuel Aboabire, has praised the performance of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo. Since his return, Addo has faced multiple criticisms over Ghana’s poor performances.

For the first time in two decades, Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Despite this, Aboabire holds a different opinion, believing the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach has worked his magic to improve the team’s overall play.

In an interview with Onua TV, the Executive Council member stated that the Ghana team’s main issue is their inability to score goals.

“Otto Addo is doing well as the Black Stars coach; it’s just that goal-scoring has been the team’s problem,” he told Onua TV.

In March 2024, the GFA announced the appointment of Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars, marking his second coming as head coach of Ghana.

He was tasked to lead Ghana to the 2025 AFCON and the 2026 World Cup. However, Ghana managed only three points during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, drawing three matches and losing three. They finished at the bottom of their group, marking a disappointing campaign.

Beer shortage hits Ashanti Region

Beer shortage has been reported in the Ashanti Region Beer shortage has been reported in the Ashanti Region

A widespread shortage of beer has been reported in the Ashanti Region due to the Christmas festivities celebrations.

According to 3news.com, drink operators have reported a shortage of Mini Club beer in parts of the Ashanti Region over the past two months.

An unusual increase in demand for the beverage by residents has caused frustration among bar and pub operators, who struggled to meet the high demand from their customers.

Many of them have gradually become accustomed to seeing empty shelves in their bars.

According to local vendors, the shortage was especially hard hit in areas known for their vibrant nightlife, including Krofrom, Ashanti Bantama, Adum, Maxima, Asafo, Kwadaso, and other surrounding communities.

Some observers attributed the surge in demand to the mood of residents, particularly supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who make up a significant portion of the region’s population.

The December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections saw the NPP experience significant setbacks, with the opposition NDC making notable gains in traditionally strongholds of the ruling party.

Otto Addo is on the verge of qualifying Ghana to 2026 World Cup – Ghana FA Exco member Oduro Sarfo

0

A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, Nana Oduro Sarfo, has expressed confidence in head coach Otto Addo’s ability to lead the Black Stars toward qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Despite the team’s current position at the top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers with nine points, the same as Comoros, Addo’s tenure has been marred by a disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

But Sarfo remains a believer in the former Dortmund assistant coach, saying will qualify Ghana for a second World Cup after the 2022 Qatar success.

“Otto Addo is doing two things. The World Cup qualifiers that we just spoke about his team is sitting in a good position. He is on the verge of qualifying but has failed in the AFCON qualification,” Sarfo told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“What shows that he is not doing a good job?”

Ghana will take on Chad and Madagascar in their next two World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.

God has better plans for us in 2025 — Elder Bentum

0

By Emmanuel Gamson

Takoradi, Jan. 1, GNA — Mr Joseph Bentum, the Presiding Elder of the Church of Pentecost, Salem Assembly, Takoradi, has asked Christians to hold unto their faith in God because He has better plans for them in the new year.

“It is a brand-new year, and we may encounter all manner of challenges, but God will be with us and fight for us,” he said.

In his 31st December sermon, titled: “Immanuel, God With Us”, Elder Bentum assured the congregation of God’s presence in their lives throughout the new year.

“If you believe that God is with you, you have no reason to fear anything that may come your way in 2025, because He has given us the assurance that He will always be with us even in times of troubles,” he added.

“The God of Joseph is our fortress. There may be turbulence and trying times, situations that may weigh you down but our God who is with us, will make a way.”

Elder Bentum asked Christians to pray and seek God’s help in difficult situations, and trust in Him to deliver unto them all their heart desires.

“The Bible says by strength no man shall prevail, except only trusting in the Lord. Lean not on your own understanding and strength, and walk in the light of his word as children of the Lord.”

“Be open and obey his direction, and He will take us to our desired end in 2025 because He knows the end from the beginning.”

The watch night service was spiced with songs of thanksgivings, praises and worship to the Lord for a successful 2024 and the opportunity to witness the new year.

Real Valladolid and Parma eye loan move for Ghana defender Joseph Aidoo

0

Real Valladolid and Parma Calcio are reportedly looking to secure the loan signing for Ghana defender Joseph Aidoo in the recently opened January transfer window.

Aidoo, who ruptured his Achilles tendon in October 2023, has struggled to regain his full form, despite recovering from the injury.

Despite showing signs of improvement, the enterprising defender has had limited playing time due to Celta Vigo’s fierce competition in defence.

Since returning from injury, Aidoo has managed only two appearances in the Copa del Rey and one in the La Liga.

Aidoo’s representatives are concerned about his situation and has reportedly asked for a loan move in the winter window as he seeks playing time.

GHANAsoccernet.com understands fellow Spanish outfit Real Valladolid and Italian Serie A side Parma Calcio have contacted Celta Vigo for a possible loan move for the defender.

Both clubs intend to secure the services of Aidoo until the end of the season and are ready to cover half of his salary to facilitate the signing of the highly-rated defender.

Joseph Aidoo has been out of the Ghana national team for over a year now and is really looking forward to getting back to competitive action and probably securing his place back into the Black Stars.

Relationship therapists warn all couples to make these certain New Year resolutions

0

The start of a new year offers a perfect opportunity for people to reflect, so relationship therapists are urging couples to make these resolutions to help make 2025 the best yet.

The resolutions have been recommended by a range of relationship experts who spoke to the MailOnline as we kick off the new year.

So, what kind of goals should you and your partner be making?

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions for your relationship? (Getty Stock Image)

Take baths together

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy for couples to drift apart. Make it a resolution to set aside uninterrupted time each week for meaningful connection.

Marital therapist Andrew G Marshall told MailOnline that taking a weekly bath together can be a way for couples to nurture their bond and deepen their connection.

Adding candles, soothing music, or aromatic bath products can transform the moment into a romantic ritual that reinforces feelings of love and appreciation.

Communicate effectively

Communication is the cornerstone of any healthy relationship.

When your partner is venting to you, Marshall recommends asking: “Do you want to be heard, helped, or held?” Instead of assuming they’re looking for a solution right away.

If they need help, ask: “How can I assist?” Instead of jumping in to fix things.

The expert said a comforting hug when your partner is upset can mean a lot.

Remember it’s not all about you

It can be easy to assume that you’re the problem when your partner starts to get upset, but Marshall has pointed out that as tough as it might be to remember sometimes, it’s not all about you. Don’t tell your partner to calm down – just listen to them.

Phone-free time together

This resolution recommendation comes from psychotherapist Georgina Sturmer, who told MailOnline that spending phone-free time with your partner is like hitting the pause button on the digital world and tuning in to each other.

According to the expert, it’s all about being present, having those deep (or silly) chats, and really hearing what each other has to say.

Whether you’re sharing a meal, going for a walk, or just chilling, those screen-free moments are where the magic happens!

Spend time together with friends

Socializing as a couple often encourages us to put our best foot forward – dressing up, engaging in lively conversation, and showing our more vibrant sides.

When we socialize as a couple, Sturmer said it’s like hitting refresh on our relationship. It’s also a fun way to keep the connection strong and the vibe fresh!

Me time

‘Me time’ in a relationship is like recharging your batteries – it keeps you energized and ready to be your best self for your partner.

It’s a chance to do your own thing, rediscover what makes you tick, and maybe even miss each other a little (which is always a good sign!).

Plus, when you come back together, you’ll have new stories to share and a refreshed spark to keep things fun and exciting.

“Neutralize the niggles”

Relationship coach Susan Quilliam admits that we all have those little quirks that can drive us nuts.

Instead of nagging (which never works), why not make your 2025 resolution about keeping cool? Try taking a deep breath in for a count of four, hold for seven, and breathe out for eight then get back to enjoying your day!

Love languages

Finally, relationship guru Dr Gary Chapman says that we all have different ideas of what ‘love’ looks like. So, it’s important to give your partner what they want, not just what you think is romantic!

Have a chat with your special someone about what makes them feel loved – whether it’s gifts, cuddles, quality time, sweet words, or helpful gestures. What’s their love language?

Experts say that by committing to these resolutions, or at least a shared direction, couples can strengthen their connection and create a relationship that thrives throughout the year.

Here’s hoping a little intentionality can lead to lasting love and happiness.

NPP to Hold Crucial NEC Meeting Following 2024 Election Loss, Leadership Discussions on the Table

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to meet on Thursday, January 2, 2025, to address critical issues following the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections.

This will be the first NEC meeting since the party’s significant defeat in the December 7 elections, which has left the NPP preparing to assume the role of the minority in Parliament.

The meeting will take place at Accra’s Alisa Hotel, and sources have confirmed that the leadership of the NPP will be deliberating on key strategies for the future, focusing particularly on how to rebuild the party and reconnect with its grassroots support base. One of the most anticipated discussions is the election of the leadership team for the upcoming 9th Parliament, a decision that will have a lasting impact on the party’s political future.

Joseph Osei Owusu, the Member of Parliament for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, is expected to be a key figure in the ongoing deliberations. Owusu and other party leaders have publicly suggested that Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the outgoing Majority Leader, should continue in a leadership role, with many advocating for his appointment as the NPP’s Minority Leader. Afenyo-Markin’s experience and political acumen are seen as assets that could help unify the party and maintain a strong presence in Parliament, despite the setback of losing the election.

The party’s NEC is also expected to scrutinize the reasons behind the NPP’s poor performance in the elections. Issues such as campaign strategy, voter engagement, internal divisions, and the party’s failure to connect with key demographics will likely be discussed in an attempt to learn from past mistakes and ensure a stronger showing in future elections.

With the NPP transitioning to the minority status in Parliament, the meeting’s outcomes will be pivotal in shaping the party’s role in Ghana’s political landscape over the next four years. This will be a defining moment for the NPP as it navigates the challenges of opposition politics and seeks to regain the trust of the electorate.

High Court to rule on NPP’s mandamus application on January 4

The High Court has adjourned to January 4, 2025, to deliver its ruling on the mandamus application filed by the NPP concerning the constituencies of Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.

This decision follows the court’s earlier dismissal of an objection by the NDC, which questioned the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the application.

Lawyers for the NPP argued that the Electoral Commission (EC) should be compelled to complete the collation of results in the affected constituencies. Gary Nimako, leading the team of lawyers for the NPP candidates, stated that the EC had failed to complete the collation process between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

Describing this delay as unreasonable, Nimako emphasized that constituents in these areas have a right to know the results and the winning candidates.

He further argued that while the NDC claims declarations were made in the affected constituencies, there is no evidence to support this assertion. Addressing video evidence presented in court, Nimako contended that the purported declaration in Tema Central was made by an individual other than the returning officer, which constitutes a breach of the law.

Nimako cited Regulation 43 of C.I. 127, which stipulates that results must be documented on Forms 1C and 1D of the Electoral Commission. He argued that the absence of these forms in the exhibits corroborates the claim that proper declarations were not made.

He also noted that the Electoral Commission itself acknowledged that the declarations were made without completing the collation of polling station results.

The Electoral Commission, represented by Justin Amenuvor, supported the NPP’s application and urged the court to order it to complete its duty. Amenuvor conceded that the collation processes in the affected constituencies remained incomplete. He warned that failure to issue such an order could set a dangerous precedent, potentially enabling unlawful interference in future elections.

Meanwhile, lawyers for the NDC candidates opposed the application. Godwin Tameklo, representing the NDC, argued that a prerequisite for granting a mandamus is a demand that has been refused. He maintained that no such demand had been made in this case.

Tameklo further referenced the video evidence, asserting that it indicated a declaration had already been made in the Tema Central case. According to him, any challenge to the validity of this declaration should be pursued through a petition, not a mandamus.

The court’s ruling on January 4, 2025, is expected to clarify the legal obligations of the Electoral Commission and the procedures for resolving electoral disputes in the affected constituencies.
