Media personality and Guinness World Record contender, Adu Safowaah, has explained why the World Records body is yet to announce the results of her speech-a–thon attempt.
Safowaah, who attempted to break the record for the longest speech by an individual, completed her 130-hour marathon at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on February 15, 2024, at 4:05 am, following a six-day effort that began on February 9, 2024.
However, more than a year after her attempt, the body has yet to announce the results.
During an interview on Neat FM on February 5, 2025, Safowaah shared updates on the status of her record attempt.
She revealed that after submitting her initial evidence, the GWR team requested additional documentation multiple times, leading to a prolonged back-and-forth communication process.
“After my attempt, we were given the option of a 12-day express review or the standard three-month review. We chose the three-month option.
“They wrote back after 3 months, saying they needed further evidence. So we sent. They later emailed again asking for more evidence. So I had to chat with them, asking what exactly they wanted so we sent it to them. They replied with what they wanted and we sent it.
“They later emailed again, asking for more evidence. So it’s been a back-and-forth with them for about 9 months. But they have not cancelled or disqualified my attempt,” she said.
Despite the extended review period, Safowaah said she remains optimistic, as her attempt has not been disqualified or cancelled.
Her last correspondence with the GWR team was on January 18, 2025, when they requested additional documents, including the log book and witness book.
Safowaah confirmed that all required evidence has now been submitted and expressed hope that this would mark the final stage of the review process.
“But as of right now, they have every piece of evidence they need. So I am hopeful this would be their last,” she said.

The MP has emphasized her commitment to improving agriculture, education and healthcare
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekyere Afram Plains, Nasira Afrah Gyekye, has assured her constituents of strategic measures to drive socio-economic development in the district.
Speaking at the 68th Independence Day celebration under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” she emphasized her commitment to improving agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the predominantly rural district.
Gyekye, the first female MP for Sekyere Afram Plains, expressed gratitude to her constituents for entrusting her with the responsibility of leadership.
She acknowledged the district’s numerous challenges, including water scarcity, poor road networks, inadequate healthcare, and low educational outcomes, but reaffirmed her resolve to bring positive change.
“Here in the Sekyere Afram Plains District, we face unique challenges. Our district is the largest in the Ashanti Region by land size, yet it remains one of the poorest.
“This disparity is a stark reminder that our independence is not yet complete,” she stated.
She stressed the importance of agriculture as the backbone of the local economy and highlighted the need for modern farming techniques, improved access to markets, and better infrastructure to support farmers.
“True independence for our people means enhancing the livelihoods of farmers, ensuring quality education for our students, providing efficient healthcare, and improving road networks and electrification in all communities,” she said.
Gyekye assured constituents of collaborations with key stakeholders, government agencies, and development partners to address the district’s challenges.
“We must review our policies and strategies to ensure they are tailored to our unique needs. And we must reset our priorities to focus on sustainable development in agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.”
The MP called on residents to support development efforts and work together to transform the district.
“I believe in the Sekyere Afram Plains dream, where we will bequeath to our children a thriving and prosperous district. Let us turn the tides to our advantage and build a better future together,” she urged.
Sekyere Afram Plains is the largest district in the Ashanti Region by land size but remains one of the least developed.
With a predominantly agrarian economy, the area faces infrastructural deficits, limited access to quality healthcare, and underdeveloped educational facilities.
Successive governments have made efforts to improve conditions, but challenges persist.
Nasira Afrah Gyekye’s leadership marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first female MP for the district, raising hopes for a renewed focus on development and inclusivity.
During the meeting, Dr. Okrah emphasized TCDA’s commitment to supporting the shea industry
The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) is taking significant steps to create an enabling environment for women in the shea butter industry by engaging key stakeholders and industry players.
As part of this initiative, the Acting CEO of TCDA, Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, paid a courtesy visit to the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, to explore strategies for strengthening the sector and expanding job opportunities in the region.
During the meeting, Dr. Okrah emphasized TCDA’s commitment to supporting the shea industry through technical assistance, market linkages, and policy advocacy to ensure sustainable growth.
“Women play a vital role in the shea sector, and our objective is to help them scale up their businesses, access better markets, and enhance their livelihoods,” he stated.
Ali Adolf John commended TCDA’s initiative and reaffirmed the region’s support in strengthening the shea industry.
He underscored the economic potential of shea butter and stressed the need for stronger public-private partnerships to maximize its benefits.
As part of the visit, the TCDA delegation toured the Yumzaa Shea Butter Processing Center, a leading facility that employs over 240 women, making up 90% of its workforce.
The company has embraced the government’s 24-hour economy policy to boost production and meet growing market demands.
Madam Zakaria Adam, CEO of Yumzaa Shea Butter, highlighted the impact of the initiative, stating:
“By running 24-hour shifts, we are not only increasing our output but also creating more employment opportunities for women in the region. This allows us to expand into export markets and improve livelihoods.”
Dr. Okrah lauded the factory’s efforts and reaffirmed TCDA’s dedication to supporting women-led businesses, improving access to financing, and facilitating trade opportunities.
“Women are the backbone of the shea industry, and their empowerment is crucial to driving Ghana’s agricultural transformation. TCDA will continue working with partners to provide the necessary resources and training to help them thrive,” he assured.
The Northern Region remains a major hub for shea butter production in Ghana, with thousands of women engaged in processing and trade. However, challenges such as limited access to financing, fluctuating market prices, and inadequate processing facilities continue to hinder the industry’s full potential.
TCDA’s intervention seeks to address these barriers and position the shea sector as a key driver of women’s economic empowerment.
From Tony Yeboah, Sulley Muntari, and Michael Essien to Asamoah Gyan, many Ghanaian players have left their mark on the Premier League. All these players have in their own ways made significant contributions to their various teams.
However, among these incredible careers, Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has named Michael Essien as the greatest Ghanaian to play in the Premier League.
Essien’s time at Chelsea saw him win multiple titles, including the Champions League in 2012, whereas Gyan hit the ground running in his first season at Sunderland.
His goal-scoring prowess and unique celebration made him a fans’ favourite at the Stadium of Light. But for Semenyo, Essien stands tall.
When asked to pick his all-time great Ghanaian Premier League player during an interview with Bleacher Report, Semenyo, while revealing his admiration for Gyan, chose Essien.
“Has to be Michael Essien. I want to say Asamoah Gyan for what he’s done at Sunderland, but Michael Essien is the GOAT,” Semenyo said.
Essien enjoyed a storied Premier League career with Chelsea. The midfielder played 168 times in the league, scoring 17 times and assisting 10 times. He also won the Premier League title twice, in 2006 and 2010.

Accra, March 7, GNA – The Government of Indonesia has congratulated Ghana on her 68th Independence Day Anniversary and extended its best wishes as the West Africa country strive in her democratic and socioeconomic growth.
Mr Paskal A.B. Rois, Honorary Consul of Indonesia to Ghana, who lauds Ghana’s contributions and achievements, said the Day commemorated a remarkable milestone and called for reflection on the nation’s enduring journey of growth, resilience and national pride.
In a Statement, he said: “The theme for this year’s Independence Day — “Reflect, Review and Reset” perfectly encapsulated Ghana’s commitment to introspection and progress, a vision that resonates strongly with Indonesia’s values of development, unity, and long-term sustainability.”
Mr Rois said Indonesia stood in total agreement with the theme and fully supported Ghana’s ambitions to reflect on past achievements, review its current trajectory, and reset its path towards a prosperous and sustainable future.
“We believe that through collaboration, we can help Ghana achieve its developmental goals while fostering a deeper bilateral relationship between our nations. As Ghana takes this important step forward, Indonesia is ready to provide its full support in several key sectors,” he said.
Amongst the key areas he mentioned were agriculture and agribusiness where Indonesia, with its wealth of expertise would help Ghana unlock its agricultural potential by providing modern farming techniques, sustainable practices, and access to advanced equipment to increase productivity, economic prosperity and ensure food security.
The Honorary Consul also mentioned trade and investment to expand economic cooperation, support Ghana’s industrialization goals, help deepen investments in infrastructure, manufacturing and services to make Ghana a regional economic powerhouse.
“On capacity building and education, Indonesia is dedicated to supporting human capital development, providing educational opportunities, scholarships, and training programs for Ghana’s youth by focusing on skill development and leadership training,” he said.
Mr Rois said infrastructure development would be key in the collaboration where Indonesia’s expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects in transportation, energy and urban development would help spur Ghana’s infrastructure drive.
“We are ready to assist Ghana in building and improving the necessary infrastructure to meet the demands of the growing economy. We believe that strong infrastructure is the foundation for economic growth and stability,” he added.
He said tourism and cultural exchange would be an integral part of their collaboration, adding that promoting mutual understanding through tourism, art, and culture would strengthen the bonds between the countries while fostering unity and peace.
Former Deputy Minister for Energy, Collins Adomako Mensah, has criticized the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, for his persistent reminders about the struggling state of the Energy Sector.
According to Adomako Mensah, while the challenges in the energy sector are undeniable, Ghanaians are more interested in practical solutions than repeated discussions about the problems.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday, March 7, he emphasized that the difficulties within the Energy Sector are well known, making it unnecessary to continuously highlight them.
“I think we are three months past the election, and today, as we speak, is the 7th of March. My very good friend and brother, Mr John Jinapor, should change his strategy and focus on fixing the problem instead of always going back and giving us a history of the energy sector’s challenges. Everybody knows there are issues within the sector,” he said.
His remarks came in response to concerns raised by John Jinapor, who described Ghana’s energy sector as “bleeding” and in urgent need of intervention.
During a press conference on March 7, 2025, Jinapor outlined the sector’s severe challenges, including frequent power outages, rising energy costs, and financial instability among energy providers.
“I Left My Father’s Wealth And Ran Away From Home To Work At A Bread Bakery In Lagos” Isiaq Sanusi
News Hub Creator1h
Yoruba movie star Isiaq Sanusi has opened up about the difficulties he encountered while trying to secure funds to kick-start his acting career. He narrated how he left his affluent family and took up work at a bakery in Lagos to make his dreams a reality.
During an interview uploaded on Biola Adebayo Ent’s YouTube channel, Sanusi revealed that despite coming from a wealthy home, he worked at a bread bakery in Lagos to support his career aspirations.
Recounting his experience, he said, “When I informed my friends about my intention to become an actor, they advised me to leave my comfort zone. I had relatives in Lagos, but they wouldn’t have allowed me to follow my passion. I moved in with my stepmother, who opposed my decision, though my brother, who studied mass communication, encouraged me. He was involved in telecommunications, and I assisted him while saving money. Later, I tried to enroll in a filmmaking program but was asked to pay fifteen thousand naira, which I didn’t have. Desperate to raise the money, I took a job at a bakery, though my boss doubted me because I was young and frail. I abandoned my father’s wealth and ran away to Lagos for this job. My employer gave me a nickname, which hurt me at first because of my privileged background, but I endured it. Eventually, I saved enough money to register for film school, and I still go by the nickname my bakery boss gave me.”

Accra, March 07, GNA – Dr Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Founder/President of 31st December Movement has on International Women’s Day congratulated all women across the globe especially Ghanaian women on this International Women’s Day March 8th, 2025.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, Dr Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings said: “Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. You are powerful. You are capable. You are unstoppable.”
She said this year’s campaign theme for the celebration, dubbed “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality”, was timely and important.
She said it was worth noting that the United Nations Global Gender Gap Report and the World Economic Forum stated in their 2024 report that at the rate the world was currently going, they would achieve gender equality in the year 2158, which was 133 years from now.
She said, it meant that women’s progress and development will take until 2158, which was roughly five generations from now to reach full gender parity.
Dr Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings said women had made significant progress, but it had been at a steady pace.
She said DWM believed the passage of the Affirmative Action Act 2024, and strategic interventions of various stakeholders, our progress would be hastened.
She said the Act, which aims to promote gender equality, and women empowerment, by addressing the systemic barriers that had hindered women in our Ghanaian society, would catapult women’s development.
She said DWM urged individuals, organisations, and all women, with this year’s theme, to take concrete steps in their daily lives, to positively influence women’s advancement.
She said DWM encouraged all to call out stereotypes, challenge discrimination, question bias, as part of accelerating action towards equity and equality.
Dr Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings said the DWM stands in solidarity with all groups, large-scale bodies, and philanthropic entities working tirelessly to support and advance women and girls.
She said they celebrated impactful individuals and organisations across the globe to deliver many effective strategies, provide resources and activities that continue to help accelerate action towards gender equity in many areas.
She said the DWM would continue to advocate women’s development, to see a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, to a world that was diverse, equitable and inclusive.
“Let us all add our voices, as part of a global collective effort towards achieving gender parity.”
“Let us continue to uplift each other, break barriers, and create a world where every woman and girl can thrive. Whether in leadership, education, business, or the home, your voice matters, and your dreams are valid,” Dr Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings said.
“Here is to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, and May we raise them.”
Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has expressed disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama’s recent address to Parliament, questioning the lack of concrete policy directions.
According to the MP, Ghanaians expected the president to provide clear plans to tackle economic hardships rather than blame past administrations.
“I was hoping to hear how he would deal with high food prices. I didn’t hear it. Did my colleagues hear it? Because by now, we should be debating it,” he said.
He also criticized the government’s decision to discontinue certain policies, arguing that not everything from the previous administration was bad.
“For example, the Gold for Oil program was introduced to help stabilize the currency and manage fuel costs. Now, it has been scrapped, and we don’t know what is replacing it,” he pointed out.
Oppong Nkrumah accused the president of failing to outline a roadmap for his major campaign promises, including tackling unemployment and implementing a 24-hour economy.
“We were expecting to see detailed plans on the 24-hour economy. But up till now, there’s no single definition of it. Everybody you talk to gives a different answer,” he stated.
He called on the government to move away from excessive rhetoric and focus on governance.
“Less propaganda, more governance. That’s what Ghanaians need right now,” he emphasised.

Kudus further emphasized that his journey in the Premier League is about more than just personal success, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with it.

Foster Nyarko, a 36-year-old man, went to the Ministry seeking a cleaning job.
He pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing a laptop valued at GHC24,745 before an Accra Circuit Court.
The court presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, sentenced Nyarko to one year for unlawful entry and two years for stealing. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The prosecution revealed that Nyarko had previously been jailed for stealing a mobile phone at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice earlier this year while on a job hunt.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, a lawyer at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, reported the theft, stating that Nyarko, who resides at Opera Square in Accra, visited the Ministry on December 4, 2024, in search of a cleaning job.
He was directed to see the Human Resource Director but instead proceeded to the second floor, where he entered the office of the Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation.
Upon finding the office unoccupied, Nyarko took advantage of the situation and stole an HP laptop computer valued at GHC24,745, further concealed the laptop in his backpack and left the premises.

Some contract workers of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Greater Accra Region are demanding payment for services rendered during the 2024 general elections.
The workers, who were engaged by the commission in December 2024 to assist with the electoral process, claim they were promised GHC600 but have yet to receive their compensation despite multiple follow-ups.
Speaking to Citi News on March 7 under anonymity, one of the affected workers expressed frustration over the delay and urged the EC to fulfill its obligation.
“I texted some of the officials, but there was no reply. They said the payment would come, but it didn’t. Others also followed up, yet nothing happened. If the EC knows we have not been paid, then it’s really bad because you cannot hire someone, let them work for you, and then not pay them while you sit comfortably.
“For any job, when you employ someone, you need to pay them immediately after the work is done. I’m just appealing to the EC to resolve this issue as soon as possible so that no one has to keep complaining because a lot of people are affected,” the worker lamented.
Some of the affected contract staff served as presiding officers, verification officers, name list reference officers, and ballot issuers during the elections.
They have expressed disappointment over the EC’s silence on the matter and are calling on authorities to urgently address their concerns.
The Minority in Parliament is speaking out against the Majority for their poor attendance, which has resulted in a lack of quorum. This lack of attendance has brought the legislative body’s proceedings to a grinding halt. With fewer than 91 MPs present, the required number for a quorum, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor was forced to suspend the day’s proceedings.

Ghanaian media personality, Blakk Rasta, has called for betting to be banned for its destructive impact on the youth of the country.
According to him, a disproportionately large percentage of Ghana’s population engages in betting, which is destroying the lives of a large number of them.
Blakk Rasta said betting should be banned to protect lives.
According to him, most young people engage in ‘chance’ rather than believing in scientific principles to guide their lives. Blakk Rasta said that mentality is dangerous and inhibits development.
His comments come ahead of an expected repeal of the betting tax which is a 10% tax on all winnings bettors in Ghana enjoy.
The tax was introduced by the previous NPP administration and during their campaign, the NDC pledged to repeal it.
However, many people have called for the tax to be left in place. Blakk Rasta however, has called for betting to be banned completely.
South Carolina allows witnesses to observe executions carried out by the state.
A South Carolina prison inmate convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend’s parents with a baseball bat will be the first person in the US to be executed by firing squad in 15 years.
If Brad Sigmon’s execution proceeds on Friday at 18:00 local time (23:00 GMT), three volunteers standing behind a curtain will simultaneously fire rifles at his chest with specially designed bullets.
The state’s procedure requires that those put to death by firing squad be strapped to a chair when they enter the execution chamber. The inmate then has a target placed on his heart and a bag put over his head.
Sigmon, 67, was convicted of murdering David and Gladys Larke in 2001 before kidnapping his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint. She later escaped as he shot at her.
Offered the alternatives of death by electric chair or lethal injection, Sigmon’s lawyers said he chose the more violent process because of his concerns about the effectiveness of the other two methods.
He will be the first person to be executed by firing squad in the US since 2010, and only the fourth since the country reintroduced the death penalty in 1976.

Over the years, Ghanaian movies have been categorised into Ghallywood (English-language, Accra-based) and Kumawood (Akan-language, Kumasi-based) industries.
However, popular actor and playwright Fiifi Coleman has stated that such segregation is problematic.
Speaking in an interview with Okay FM, Coleman cited the American movie industry as an example, where all films, regardless of language or location of production, fall under one umbrella.
“The idea of ‘these are the Kumawood people, these are Ghallywood people’ really doesn’t sit well with me.
“We have only one movie industry. In places like the US, they don’t have the New York movie people, the LA movie people, or the Atlanta movie people. They don’t do that. They produce movies, and they are all placed under one umbrella, Hollywood. That’s it,” he said.
According to Coleman, such segregation only breeds unhealthy competition within the industry.
“Once you become very specific about pushing either the Kumawood agenda or the Ghallywood agenda, it turns into a regional competition.”
He also highlighted efforts to integrate both industries, stressing the need for unity to foster growth and development in Ghana’s movie industry.
“But it’s a national agenda. It is for all of us. That is why we go to Kumasi to shoot films, and they come to Accra to shoot with us so that it does not seem like Kumasi is an industry on its own or Accra is an industry on its own.
“Ghana has one movie industry where all players come from different regions, and we all work together. It’s as simple as that,” he said.

The Education Ministry further urged all stakeholders to support the transition and contribute to the institution’s growth.
“We call on students, faculty, and all stakeholders to embrace this new chapter. Together, we can establish Savannah College of Education as a center of excellence in teacher education,” the statement concluded.

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has stated that the government has not made any decision to sell the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) or the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
He explained that the government is instead exploring ways to partner with the private sector to enhance the efficiency of revenue collection for these power distribution companies.
Addressing the Presidential Press Corps on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Jubilee House, the Energy Minister categorically stated that ECG and NEDCo remain public assets.
“Let me be clear: the government has not made any decision to sell ECG or NEDCo. What we are exploring is a partnership to enhance the efficiency of revenue collection, which remains a key challenge for the power distributors,” he said.
Jinapor further assured, “We acknowledge the concerns raised, but I assure Ghanaians that ECG and NEDCo remain public assets. Any intervention we undertake will be aimed at improving their efficiency, not privatizing them.”
However, the Energy Minister had earlier directed the newly inaugurated seven-member technical committee to consult extensively with stakeholders within the power distribution sector and develop a comprehensive plan for the privatisation of ECG within one month.
The committee, composed of energy experts and key stakeholders, has been tasked with outlining strategies for transitioning ECG to private sector management, focusing on improving efficiency and service delivery.

play videoDr. Opoku-Antwi is the owner of Spintex Knights
The owner of the basketball team Spintex Knights, Dr. Opoku-Antwi, has stated that Ghana has the talent to develop a formidable national team.
According to Opoku-Antwi, building a strong and competitive national basketball team requires time and investment. However, with the right support, he believes Ghana can establish itself as a powerhouse in African basketball.
Speaking during an interview on Sports Check on GhanaWeb TV, he noted that Spintex Knights’ ability to compete with top teams from other African countries demonstrates that, when Ghana’s best players are assembled, they can form one of the strongest teams on the continent.
“We can start gradually if there’s funding. We can even begin with local players because when we travel to Nigeria, we beat all their teams. Spintex Knights don’t have all the best players in Ghana, so imagine if we put all the top players together to compete against Nigeria, we would demolish them,” he said.
Opoku-Antwi also highlighted the importance of gradual development, starting with local talent before incorporating players from abroad.
“I believe we can start with a local national team and build from there because, at the top level, we will need to bring in some of our players from abroad to compete,” he added.

In a heartwarming display of integrity, a Ghanaian taxi driver has gained widespread praise after returning GH₵50,000 that a passenger accidentally left in his car. The incident, which occurred in Accra, has sparked online discussions about honesty and good character.
According to reports, the passenger, a trader named Yaw Boadu, boarded the taxi from Madina Market to his home in Adenta. In a rush, he forgot a black bag containing the huge sum of money in the backseat.
The driver, identified as Kojo Amankwah, only noticed the bag after dropping off another passenger. Instead of keeping the money, he drove straight to the police station to report the incident.
“I know how hard people work for their money,” Amankwah told reporters. “I would not have peace if I kept it.”
Hours later, Boadu arrived at the police station, visibly distressed. When he saw his money intact, he knelt down and thanked the driver. In appreciation, he rewarded Amankwah with GH₵5,000 and promised to support his children’s education.
The story has since gone viral, with social media users hailing the driver as a hero. Many are calling for taxi unions to recognize and reward such acts of honesty.

THE ECONOMIC and Organized Office (EOCO), in collaboration with the UK’s National Agency (NCA) and the British High Commission, has launched a campaign aimed at addressing the growing issue of romance fraud in Ghana.
This initiative seeks to raise awareness, encourage public reporting, and strengthen law enforcement efforts to combat this deceptive crime, which has become a global concern.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Director of Legal and Prosecutions at EOCO, Anthony Leo Siamah, highlighted the increasing prevalence of romance fraud, locally known as “Sakawa.”
He explained that this crime involves fraudsters who pose as romantic partners to manipulate victims into sending money, valuables, or sensitive personal information. He added that the impact on victims is significant, resulting not only in financial loss but also in severe emotional and psychological distress while tarnishing Ghana’s international reputation.
Mr. Siamah noted that the rise of digital platforms and online financial services has facilitated cross-border operations by criminals targeting unsuspecting individuals.
This growing threat, necessitated the partnership between EOCO, NCA, and other international agencies, to intensify its efforts through enhanced investigations, public awareness campaigns, and stronger regulatory measures.
Mr. Siamah urged the public to remain vigilant when engaging in online relationships and to report any suspected cases of fraud. The International Liaison Officer of the UK’s National Agency, Dominic Cummis, emphasized that fraud accounts for over 40% of crime in England and Wales, making it a top priority for the UK government.
He pointed out that romance fraud has seen a significant rise in recent years, with criminals employing sophisticated deception and manipulation techniques to exploit vulnerable individuals. The psychological and financial damage caused by these scams is devastating, and because most of these crimes occur online, fraudsters operate internationally with relative anonymity. He praised the fraud reporting campaign as an important initiative aimed at encouraging the Ghanaian public to report individuals, they suspect of being involved in romance fraud.
Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor has rejected calls for the publication of a load-shedding timetable amid recent intermittent power outages, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor.’
His response follows demands from the Minority in Parliament for the government to release a timetable to help businesses and individuals plan their activities.
Addressing journalists on Friday, March 7, John Jinapor stated, “Let me put it on record that we’re not shedding load. And so, the demand by the Minority and some people that we publish a load-shedding timetable is moot. When you are not shedding load, there will be no need to publish a load-shedding timetable.”
The Minister reassured the public and stakeholders that the recent power outages do not signal a return to systematic load shedding.
He further emphasized that Ghana currently has sufficient power supply and is exporting approximately 300 megawatts of electricity to neighboring countries, including Benin and Burkina Faso.
“As we speak, we’re exporting about 300 megawatts of power outside Ghana to Benin, Burkina Faso, and other neighbouring countries. If you have enough and you are exporting power, obviously there will be no need to publish a timetable.”
Jinapor attributed the outages to technical challenges, assuring that efforts are underway to restore a stable and reliable power supply nationwide.
Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry
The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has assured that the government will facilitate the release of locked-up funds in banks to support the private sector.
She noted that discussions have been held with the Minister of Finance and the Bank of Ghana to ensure the funds are made available.
According to her, the government is committed to supporting industries as Ghana prepares to implement its 24-hour economy policy.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Independence Day celebrations on March 6, 2025, she stated:
“The National Economic Dialogue highlighted how much the private sector is willing to contribute if given the right support. One of the major takeaways was the need to free up locked funds in banks to support businesses. I will personally follow up to ensure these funds are made available,” she was quoted as saying by MyJoyOnline.
Regarding the government’s 24-hour economy policy, she emphasized the private sector’s readiness to embrace the initiative.
According to the minister, some industries have already agreed to operate in three shifts to maximize production and create jobs.
“The 24-hour economy will support our import substitution agenda. Many of the industries coming on board will produce goods we currently import. If they can scale up, we will export more and strengthen the cedi,” she added.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain steadfast despite their defeat in the December 7 elections.
In a video shared on his Facebook page on Friday, March 7, 2025, he emphasized the need for unity, hard work, and the internal resolution of grievances.
“Members, I know that we are all heartbroken. We are disappointed, we are all depressed, and we are not happy about the outcome of the elections. That is to be expected.
“Because when you go into an election and you don’t win, it comes with a lot of disappointment. But that was yesterday. Today is another day,” he stated.
The Member of Parliament for Effutu appealed to party members to move past their grievances and focus on rebuilding the party.
“The way to prepare for the future is through hard work, forgiveness, and a collective determination to sacrifice for the good of the party. Calling each other names and making all sorts of statements on radio, social media, and TV is not the way to go. I plead with all of us, let’s move on,” he added.
The party lost both the presidential and parliamentary elections by a landslide, losing over 40 parliamentary seats, including several in its stronghold.

The approved nominees will now be sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama. Following their swearing-in, they will officially assume their respective ministerial duties, contributing to governance and national development.
President John Dramani Mahama has assigned the Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, additional responsibilities as the Acting National Security Minister.
The decision, made in accordance with Section 24 of the Securities and Intelligence Act 2020 (Act 1030), was formally communicated to Parliament by Speaker Alban Bagbin during proceedings on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Mubarak Muntaka is expected to oversee national security operations alongside his duties as Interior Minister.
The announcement comes as the government intensifies efforts to address emerging security challenges and ensure public safety.
By consolidating the roles of the Interior Minister and National Security Minister, President Mahama aims to enhance coordination and efficiency within the country’s security framework.
Upon assuming office, President Mahama dissolved several sectoral ministries and eliminated others as part of his commitment to a lean and efficient government.
Key ministries affected included the Ministry for National Security, the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.
According to OnuaTV, a leading member of the Movement for Change and former parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Adorye, has raised serious concerns about the ongoing investigations into the ghost names scandal at the National Service Authority (NSA). During an interview on Onua TV on March 5, 2025, Adorye criticized the selective nature of the investigation, suggesting that key individuals involved in the fraud have been overlooked while others, including former NSA Deputy Executive Director Gifty Oware-Mensah, have been unfairly targeted.
Adorye’s frustrations stemmed from what he perceives as a biased approach to the investigation, particularly the scrutiny of Oware-Mensah, who he argues, was not directly involved in the fraudulent activities. Though he acknowledged that she may have indirectly benefited, Adorye emphasized that she was not at the core of the scandal. According to him, the individuals who were truly responsible for the ghost names scheme are not facing the necessary level of investigation.
“The people who are not involved in this process have become the face of this scandal. This is what is worrying me the most,” Adorye expressed in Twi, urging authorities to broaden their search for accountability.
Adorye pointed out that those overseeing crucial aspects of the National Service Scheme (NSS), particularly the management of NSS pin codes, had not been held accountable. One of the key figures Adorye singled out was Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, who served as Deputy Executive Director in charge of operations at the NSA. Despite his central role in managing the generation of NSS pin codes, Nana B has not been summoned for questioning.
“Nana B, who was Deputy Executive Director in charge of operations, is walking around organizing press conferences. They were the ones who were in charge of the generation of NSS pin codes. The NIB has not invited him. Why is that the case?” Adorye questioned, highlighting what he views as a troubling double standard in the investigation process.
Adorye also raised concerns about the role of Mustapha Ussif, the former NSA Executive Director, who now serves as a government minister. According to Adorye, the ghost names scandal began under Ussif’s leadership, yet Ussif has not faced any serious scrutiny. Adorye speculated that Ussif’s current ministerial position could be protecting him from being investigated.
“I don’t understand why some of them are in their homes. They have not been invited to come and answer any questions. The Executive Director should have been investigated first,” Adorye argued, calling for Ussif to be held accountable for the alleged misconduct during his tenure.
He further questioned whether Ussif’s ministerial appointment as Sports Minister might have shielded him from any legal repercussions. “He is the one who was made sports minister, Mustapha Ussif. It was during his time that the ghost names thing started… Why has he not been invited? Is it because he was a minister?” Adorye asked, raising doubts about the impartiality of the investigation.
Adorye’s comments have sparked fresh debates over the fairness of the ongoing investigation into the ghost names scandal. His concerns touch on broader issues of accountability and transparency in public institutions, with critics questioning whether political influence is affecting the probe’s integrity. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will broaden their focus and ensure that all individuals involved are thoroughly investigated, regardless of their political standing.
The growing public interest in this case reflects increasing calls for justice and transparency, urging authorities to address corruption without bias or selective enforcement.
Michael Donyina Mensah, Executive Director of CenPOA
The Executive Director of the Centre for Public Awareness and Opinion (CenPOA), Michael Donyina Mensah, has stated that Ghana has little to celebrate despite marking its 68th independence anniversary from colonial rule.
He has, therefore, commended President John Dramani Mahama for scaling down the celebrations, noting that the decision will save the country several million Ghana cedis.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mensah remarked, “First of all, I congratulate Ghana on celebrating its Independence Day. However, there are important issues that need to be discussed. At the moment, I don’t think there is anything meaningful to celebrate.
“The question I would like to ask is: Are we truly independent? What exactly are we celebrating? If we claim to be celebrating our independence this year, I want to understand what we are actually celebrating. Are we truly where we want to be as a country?
“I don’t think so. Frankly, there is little to celebrate, so I am not surprised that President John Dramani Mahama ordered a scale-down of the celebrations because, in reality, there is very little—or nothing—to celebrate,” he concluded.
The Prosperity Vision Party (PVP) has been launched at the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC – IJ), marking the beginning of a journey to liberate Ghana from the long-standing political duopoly.
The launch saw many party members and supporters in high spirits, singing the party song to inspire hope for prosperity.
The event was graced by journalist Kwaku Asante, who served as the guest speaker.
In his address, Kwaku Asante bemoaned the leadership crisis Ghana faces due to the duopoly of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He noted that their actions over the years have trapped Ghanaians in a vicious cycle of poverty, while the political elite amass wealth, carve up state resources among themselves, and treat governance as a business venture rather than a public service.
Kwaku Asante commended the leadership of the Prosperity Vision Party for boldly breaking away from the grip of the duopoly and establishing PVP.
He endorsed the PVP and advised that, in presenting itself as a viable alternative committed to building a just, equitable, and self-sufficient Ghana, the party must move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate a concrete commitment to radical change.
“First, it must prioritise strategic state intervention in key sectors like agriculture, industry, and technology to reduce dependence on foreign imports and create real employment. Ghana has no business importing basic foodstuffs when it has vast arable land.
Second, the PVP must ensure inclusive governance by actively involving grassroots communities in decision-making and eliminating the culture of winner-takes-all politics. Leadership should not be about personal enrichment but about service to the people.
Finally, the party must champion progressive policies that address systemic inequalities. This means ensuring that the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes, investing in quality public services, and putting an end to the looting of state assets.
The NDC and NPP have failed Ghana, and their continued dominance spells more of the same. If the Prosperity Vision Party is to be a true force for change, it must not fall into the same traps of political greed and cronyism. The people of Ghana are watching, and they deserve better,” he said.
Co-founder of PVP, Angela Bamford, described the launch as the beginning of a movement for dreamers who believe in a Ghana where everyone has a seat at the table.
The party’s slogan, “Obiara w) mu bi”, is a call for collective responsibility in advancing a Ghana where prosperity is not reserved for a select few but is accessible to all, regardless of their affiliations.
“We founded the Prosperity Vision Party because no one should have to wait for opportunity. Everyone has a share—Obiara w) mu bi—and that’s not just a slogan; it’s a promise.
Today marks the birth of a party built on three pillars: vision, prosperity, and unity. Let me break that down:
Vision—because we refuse to accept a future where students graduate into unemployment, where corruption strangles progress, or where your environment determines your destiny.
Prosperity—not just wealth, but access to healthcare, education, and the tools to thrive.
Unity—because, like the broom in our logo, we are stronger together. Alone, a single stick snaps, but bound as one, we sweep away inequality, corruption, and the idea that ‘some’ matter more than ‘all.’
Our colours tell this story too. Royal blue represents the trust we will earn through action. Gold signifies the brighter future we will build. White stands for the transparency we demand from leaders.
This isn’t about left or right—it’s about moving forward, guided by inclusive principles that put people first,” she said.
The Prosperity Vision Party’s vision is to build a prosperous and united Ghana, where strong leadership ensures economic growth, fairness, and equal opportunities for all citizens.
Its mission is to build a strong and self-sufficient Ghana through industrialization, entrepreneurship, and strategic investment, while promoting inclusive economic growth by creating opportunities for businesses and individuals.
The party is also committed to good governance, transparency, and accountability, upholding social justice and national stability, empowering communities through sustainable development and financial inclusion, and fostering a future of peace, stability, and prosperity for all citizens.
The Prosperity Vision Party calls on all Ghanaians to trust in its vision, mission, and policies to free the nation from its current struggles and lead it towards abundance, success, and security.

The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has expressed concerns over the growing adoption of foreign lifestyles that undermine Ghanaian cultural values.
According to her, practices such as provocative dressing, explicit music lyrics that promote immorality, and unfiltered media content pose a threat to the nation’s moral foundation and must be discouraged.
In an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz, Houadjeto called on Ghanaians to embrace their cultural heritage and resist influences that conflict with traditional values.
She urged media organisations to take greater responsibility for the content they produce, emphasising the need to prioritise materials that reflect and uphold Ghanaian traditions.
“I believe we have adopted too much of the Western style. We must also be intentional about streamlining the kind of content we put out.
“I think it’s important to consider how we dress and the aspects of foreign lifestyles we have adopted that do not align with Ghanaian values. The industry is broad and vast, so we will take it a step at a time. I believe that by doing so, we will go a long way in supporting the industry and making gains by embracing our roots,” she said.
Additionally, she called on musicians, filmmakers, and content creators to exercise greater care in their work, ensuring that their creations do not promote behaviors that contradict the country’s moral and cultural principles.
“The media has a huge influence on the minds of our youth, and if we keep glorifying inappropriate dressing, reckless utterances, and music that lacks moral depth, we risk losing our identity as a people. It is time for us to celebrate what is truly Ghanaian and be proud of our heritage,” she added.
She called on stakeholders to take action to strengthen the country’s cultural identity and ensure that younger generations are raised with values that reflect Ghana’s rich traditions.

Over the last couple of years, some Ghanaian players have made significant contributions while playing in the Premier League. During an interview with Bleacher Report, Semenyo was asked to recall some of their moments.
There were some interesting choices during the test. Here is a look at them:
First Ghanaian player to feature in the Premier League
The forward was asked to name the first Ghanaian to ever compete in the Premier League, but unfortunately, he mentioned Leeds’ Tony Yeboah, which was the wrong answer.
The first Ghanaian to play in the Premier League was Nii Odartey Lamptey. Lamptey played for Aston Villa in 1994 before Anthony Yeboah made his Premier League debut in 1995.
First Ghanaian to score in the Premier League
Although Nii Odartey Lamptey made his debut before Anthony Yeboah, the latter made history as the first Ghanaian to score in the Premier League.
Yeboah’s goal was also the winning goal on the day as Leeds beat Everton 1-0. Semenyo was well aware of this one and got it correct. He further disclosed how his dad played with Yeboah.
Some other questions included the Ghanaian with the most Premier League appearances, the first Ghanaian player to win the title, and the other two Ghanaians to have won the title.

In the spirit of International Women’s Day 2025, and its resonant theme of ‘Accelerate Action’, Ghana is shining a spotlight on the transformative power of women entrepreneurship, particularly in the burgeoning green technology sector.
Echoing the global call for rapid advancements in gender equality, Ghana is recognizing and enacting strategies to drive women’s progress in employment, education and leadership.
Earlier this week, President John Dramani Mahama met with Valerie Labi, co-founder of Wahu Mobility, and Abena Baidoo, the company’s Chief Finance Officer, to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to supporting women-led innovation and driving sustainable economic development.
Wahu Mobility, a pioneering force in Ghana’s electric mobility sector, is manufacturing e-bikes and soon-to-be-launched electric Okadas, paving the way for a greener transportation future.
President Mahama underscored his unwavering support for women entrepreneurs, pledging to foster their growth and create a conducive regulatory environment for green technology to flourish. This commitment directly addresses the ‘Accelerate Action’ theme, recognizing that proactive government support is crucial to unlocking the potential of women in business.
Valerie Labi, a passionate advocate for youth employment, has demonstrated the profound impact women entrepreneurs can have on job creation.
Wahu Mobility has generated over 500 jobs in the past year alone, providing opportunities for delivery personnel, engineers, and other skilled workers. This achievement showcases the entrepreneurial might of Ghanaian women and their ability to drive economic growth.
With the backing of the government, Labi’s ambitious vision of establishing a green 24-hour electric vehicle zone in the heart of Accra is poised to create over 200,000 jobs in the next five years. This initiative aligns perfectly with President Mahama’s broader agenda, which includes the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, the Big Push for improved road infrastructure, and the endorsement of electric 2-wheelers.
These initiatives collectively work to comprehensively develop and realign professionally, supporting innovative startups and propelling Ghana towards a sustainable, green economy.
Empowering women entrepreneurs is not just a matter of social justice, it’s a strategic imperative for economic growth. Wahu Mobility is a prime example of how women-led businesses can drive innovation, create jobs, and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future for Ghana.
President Mahama’s engagement with Wahu Mobility highlights the critical role women are playing in driving innovation and economic growth in Ghana. His administration’s proactive measures are paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future, where women entrepreneurs can thrive and lead the charge towards a sustainable, green economy.
This International Women’s Day, Ghana is sending a clear message: accelerating action for women entrepreneurs is accelerating action for a stronger, more equitable, and environmentally conscious nation.
Wahu Mobility is dedicated to providing sustainable and accessible transportation solutions tailored to Africa’s unique terrain and challenges. The company offers a range of electric bicycles designed and manufactured locally, empowering riders with cost-effective and eco-friendly alternatives to traditional fuel-powered vehicles.

According to GhanaWeb, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), has expressed serious concerns regarding public sector employees watching inappropriate content during work hours instead of concentrating on their duties.
In an interview with Channel One TV on March 5, 2025, he criticized the presence of televisions in government offices, highlighting that he often walks through corridors to find officials distracted by soap operas and other unsuitable programs.
He pointed out that these shows often feature scantily clad individuals, making it inappropriate for daytime viewing.
Thompson labeled the existence of televisions in public offices as a clear indication of a lack of seriousness in the country.
“I go to places and I walk through the corridor straight to the minister’s office and no one asks me a question, because they are watching a soap opera… it’s not just soap opera but soft porn; given that these telenovelas show people going about half naked and it’s at around 10 am in the morning,” he decried.
He argued that such distractions significantly hinder productivity and called for immediate measures to eliminate televisions from government workplaces.
Additionally, he recommended that the use of personal mobile phones, especially by frontline workers, should be scrutinized, as many individuals spend work hours on social media rather than focusing on their responsibilities.
Thompson asserted that frontline staff should refrain from using their phones during work hours, suggesting they turn them off upon arrival.
He emphasized the need for a contact number for emergencies, advocating for a strict policy against engaging in non-work-related activities during official hours.
An unemployed man who stole a laptop from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Investigations led to Nyarko’s arrest, and he admitted to the offence. He confessed to selling the stolen laptop to an unidentified person in Takoradi.
