The body of a young man believed to be in his late 20s has been found dead around the Potsin Senior High School area.
The individual whose identity is not yet known was found lying face down close to an electric pole dead.
Citi News sources say residents in Gomoa Potsin witnessed intermittent power outages earlier in the week only to discover that some light cables had been cut off close to where the dead body was found, an indication that the individual attempted to steal some of the cables and was electrocuted.
Close physical examination of the body suggests the deceased was part of a group of individuals who attempted to steal cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana but was electrocuted to death.

The University of Gold Coast (UGC) has appointed Joseph Osei-Owusu, former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for the Bekwai Constituency, as a member of its University Council.

Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has insisted that the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame A Plus, is not the father of her child.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM on January 30, 2025, Yaa Yeboah, who has repeatedly shut down these claims recently, once again labeled them as unpleasant and unfounded.
She emphasised that the public should stop targeting young, rising female journalists with such’ baseless’ rumours.
“Recently, there were rumours speculating that A Plus is the father of my daughter. That is unpleasant because when I went to America, someone even approached me with the same question. It’s a baseless rumour and not true.
“It is a cycle in the media space because when Ghanaians notice that a young woman is rising in the media space, someone will tarnish the person’s image by tagging their children to some famous people. I am a grown woman, and I make decisions for myself, and I will take accountability for my decisions, so these rumours are unpleasant,” she said.
When asked why she had not taken legal action for defamation all this while, Yaa Yeboah said she initially felt it would be a waste of time.
However, upon further reflection, she now intends to take legal action against those responsible.
“I wanted to take such people to court and after careful thought, I realised it would be a waste of resources. I decided to let it go at the time, but moving forward, I will pursue legal redress. Most of these people spreading the rumours live abroad, in places like the UK and the USA,” she added.

Professor Kobby Mensah’s appointment has triggered conversation on social media
President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) lecturer, Professor Kobby Mensah as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) Limited has triggered conversations on social media, with some persons accusing Prof. Kobby Mensah of hypocrisy.
Amid the online trolling and vile criticism of Professor Kobby Mensah, who was a staunch critic of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government, a post of him claiming that his criticism of the former government was not driven by parochial interest has popped up.
The post which is in wild circulation on various social media platforms captures Professor Kobby Mensah explaining that his criticism of the previous government was in line with his profession as a political marketing expert.
He defended his crusade against the government, implying that he was not eyeing an appointment.
“For some time now, some people are of the notion that I criticize govt because I am looking for an appointment. This I find so interesting. Let me say that again my discipline is political marketing. and for those who are not familiar with the modern political system. What I am doing is what a political marketing expert does.
“Your strategies, your analyses and your critique of the moves of the players-politicians, voters, the media and other stakeholders-from strategy perspectives. I don’t know how many times I should say this,” he wrote.
One public figure who has been direct with his reservations about the appointment of Professor Kobby Mensah is the Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah who sent a sarcastic message to him and Professor Ransford Gyampo, another appointee of President Mahama.
Adomako-Mensah described the development as a case of individuals, particularly critics, acting in their interests.
He linked Prof. Gyampo and Prof. Mensah’s appointments to a reward for their criticisms of the former government.
“Ransford Gyampo and Kobby Mensah, congratulations to both of you. Go serve Ghana. This game is called politics. I learn something every day. Key word ‘Interest nkoaaaaa’,” he posted on Facebook.
The number of sports personalities within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) minority caucus in the ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic has decreased following the 2024 general elections.
The NPP, who previously had three sports figures in the eighth Parliament, now have just two. The party had aimed to double its representation of sports personalities in parliament but only two out of the six sports personalities who contested the 2024 elections were successful.
The constituencies lost by the NPP sports figures include Ahafo Ano South East, Sunyani West, Asunafo North, and Asuogyaman.
Here are the two sports personalities on the NPP caucus in the ninth Parliament
Jerry Ahmed Shaib
Jerry Ahmed Shaib won the Weija Gbawe Constituency parliamentary seat in the Greater Accra Region. He amassed 32,608, which represents 51.70% of the total votes.
He has taken his political career a notch higher as he enters parliament for the first time.
He is the President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation and Assistant Secretary of the Ghana Olympic Committee.
Mustapha Ussif
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, won the parliamentary seat in Yagaba-Kubori in the Northern Region, retaining the seat for the second time.
He garnered 18,917 votes, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Musah Sibiri Amidu, polled 11,385 votes. There were 30,302 votes cast, with 497 being rejected.
The former sports minister is among the few NPP MPs who survived the tsunami that befell the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government in the parliamentary and presidential elections.
The ongoing feud between Ghanaian music duo DopeNation and their former label mate Kuami Eugene has reignited, and this time, the tensions are higher than ever. The rift began after DopeNation threw shade at Kuami Eugene in a cheeky social media post, following comments made by their former label boss, Richie Mensah. In an interview on Hitz FM, Mensah officially confirmed Kuami Eugene’s departure from Lynx Entertainment, where DopeNation and Kuami Eugene had all started their careers.
In their post, DopeNation wished their former labelmate success in overcoming the so-called ‘Lynx curse’, a belief among fans that artists who leave the label often struggle to create hit songs and maintain their relevance in the Ghanaian music scene. This remark sparked the public feud, with both parties exchanging words on social media ever since.
The tension continued to escalate when Kuami Eugene recently mocked DopeNation, accusing them of chasing social media clout with a “gym song,” which led to DopeNation’s fiery response. In their post, they took a jab at Kuami Eugene’s hairstyle and warned him against stealing songs from other artists, a reference to past accusations that he had borrowed melodies and lyrics without proper credit.
The drama has divided fans, with some taking sides while others call for unity and collaboration among Ghanaian artists.

The activities will take place at WAPCo’s Lagos Beach Compressor Station located at Badagry in Nigeria and at the Takoradi Regulating and Metering Station.
The exercise, which is required by regulation, will start from February 5 to March 2, 2025.
The company has therefore begun installing the necessary equipment, including an effluent management system for the project.
The activity, known as Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG), involves the cleaning of pipelines to remove debris, dirt and liquids as well as inspection of the internal walls of the pipeline.
There will also be replacing of subsea valves and conducting of any ancillary works needed.
Per the West African Gas Pipeline Authority’s regulations, WAPCo is required to clean and inspect the pipeline every five years. The company last cleaned and inspected the pipeline about 5 five years ago.

Twene Jonas, the Ghanaian social commentator based in the United States, has finally responded to calls from many Ghanaians calling for him to be deported from the U.S.
The recent anti-immigrant deportation operation started by the United States Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has led to many Ghanaians who are in the U.S. illegally feeling uncomfortable and scared.
Twene Jonas, who has been in the U.S. for several years now, is one of the most notable people that Ghanaians are targeting for deportation. His immigration status is unclear but many people believe he is in the U.S. illegally and therefore have called for Donald Trump to deport him.
Since the crackdown began, Jonas has also been recording videos at a lower frequency than usual, leading to claims that he’s hiding.
Jonas has now come out to record a video attacking his critics and to show that he’s not hiding. In the video, he slammed all those calling for his deportation and said he would call on the gods to strike them down.
The Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has refuted claims that his membership in Freemasonry contradicts Christian teachings, asserting that the organisation is not anti-Christian.
His comments follow concerns raised by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, which recently reiterated the Church’s long-standing position that Catholicism and Freemasonry are incompatible.
In a letter signed by Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Church reaffirmed its stance, stating, “The Church has always maintained that Freemasonry is incompatible with the teachings of Christ and the Church.”
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Afenyo-Markin expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with Church leaders on the subject but clarified that he had not received any official communication from the Catholic Church.
“Freemasonry is not anti-Christ. If nothing at all, at the highest level of Masonry, you must profess Christ. People don’t know, and people say things. But I’m ready for that debate. I have not been written to. If I receive a delegation from my Church leaders for a conversation, we will have a good conversation,” he stated.
The Effutu MP added that should the Church take a firm position against his involvement in Freemasonry, he would then decide whether to remain Catholic or join the Anglican Church.
“My Church first. The Church doesn’t force people; the Church shows compassion, listens, and shows love. My Archbishop, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has not written any letter to me. I have been seeing letters flying, but nobody has written a letter to me personally.”
Afenyo-Markin also observed that many Catholics hesitate to openly declare their affiliation with Freemasonry, but he had no such fears.
“I’m a committed Catholic. I’m ready to discuss the fraternities that I join. If I was afraid, I wouldn’t have brought it up. There are many Catholics who are Freemasons and are afraid to talk about it.”
The debate over Freemasonry and Christianity continues to generate discussions among religious and public circles in Ghana.

Celestial Breed (C-Breed) is composed of 13 singers
Ghanaian gospel musician, Celestine Donkor, has formed a music group, as her contribution to expanding the gospel music ministry.
The group Celestial Breed (C-Breed) comprising 13 singers, most of whom are her backing vocalists, are being groomed and given the necessary exposure to the music industry.
‘You’re Amazing’, the first ever single from the group led by Minister Bella, will be out on January 31, 2025.
According to Celestine Donkor, Bella has been part of her backing vocal team for over eight solid years.
“She has served as a praise and worship leader at the ICGC for as long as I can remember. Trust me, this is a true vessel of worship,” she said.
Celestine, has, therefore, asked gospel music lovers to look out for C-Breed’s first single as they prepare to take the world by surprise.
“I want the world to watch out for the explosion that C-breed is about to unleash,” she added.
‘You’re Amazing’ was written and composed by Celestine Donkor, with production and engineering by Joe Amoah.
According to the management, this is just the beginning of more songs to be released under the umbrella of the group.
Celestine is hopeful that, through this, individuals in the group who want to do projects are given the right exposure.
Legal practitioner and member of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), Martin Kpebu, has denied widespread reports that the committee seized the vehicle of the former Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Omari Wadie.
Initial reports indicated that the anti-corruption committee allegedly wrongfully seized Omari Wadie’s personal car, claiming it to be government property.
Speaking on Happy 98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben in January, Omari Wadie explained that members of the ORAL team initially visited his residence to seize his vehicles but were unable to access his garage as the main gate was locked.
He disclosed that the car in question, a Lexus, had been sent to a mechanic for repairs due to a fault.
On Wednesday, January 22, he received a call from the mechanic informing him that a team identifying themselves as members of the ORAL taskforce had arrived at the shop and seized the car.
Omari Wadie stated that he managed to speak with two members of the taskforce, called Adam and Alhaji Musa.
According to them, the Lexus had been identified as a government vehicle, and they had been instructed to retrieve it.
He added that he was then directed to report to the ORAL Committee or the National Security Office at Blue Gate if he had any concerns.
However, in response to the claims on Adom FM on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Martin Kpebu strongly dismissed them, stating that they were inaccurate and baseless.
The outspoken lawyer further stated that the committee had no knowledge of the incident and clarified that no one from the committee was sent to seize the vehicle.
“It is not true; it’s just fake news. We have no idea about that issue and the ORAL committee has not sent anybody to seize any car – it is fake. That is how politics is and people will try to misinform with fake news. It is unfortunate, but in a democracy, fake news becomes a lot.
“When these things happen, people call for us to arrest and prosecute the fake news peddlers. If you have evidence to prove someone guilty, you can use the laws to deal with such persons. This fake news is not going to be the last because it has been with us even before the world came into existence. We know nothing about the car seizure,” he clarified.

Former Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Gifty Klenam, has officially defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region.
Viral images circulating on social media show Ms. Klenam holding an NDC party card, confirming her allegiance to the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Data released by the Bank of Ghana reveals that the country’s gold reserves rose from 19.5 tonnes in 2023 to a robust 30.5 tonnes in 2024 estimated in value at $2.7 billion.
This strategic accumulation of gold follows the Bank of Ghana’s Gold for Oil Policy and Domestic Gold Purchasing Programme.
This is part of the Central Bank’s broader efforts to shield the economy from external shocks, enhance the country’s foreign exchange reserve and strengthen Ghana’s position in global markets.
It is also a decisive step toward stabilising Ghana’s financial outlook, especially as global uncertainties weigh heavily on economies worldwide.
In terms of impact, the increase in gold reserves is expected toserve as a as a hedge against inflation, reduce the country’s vulnerability to currency fluctuations and bolster investor confidence.
Market watchers are therefore keenly focused on the implications for Ghana’s fiscal policy and its standing in the global economy, as the Bank of Ghana continues to diversify and strengthen its reserves.
Gold boosts trade surplus
Already, Ghana achieved a remarkable trade surplus of $4.98 billion in December 2024, nearly doubling the $2.69 billion surplus recorded in the same period in 2023.
The impressive surplus was largely driven by a sharp 53.2% year-on-year increase in gold exports, which reached $11.64 billion. Overall, total exports grew by 21.06%, hitting $20.22 billion.
The Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) has emphasised that addressing Ghana’s currency depreciation requires sustainable reforms.
According to the Institute, the Bank of Ghana’s intervention ahead of the December 2024 elections cannot be sustained in the long term.
The cedi came under intense pressure last year, climbing from GH¢12 to $1 to over GH¢16 by November 2024.
It peaked at GH¢16.30 in October, declined to GH¢15.37 in November, and further appreciated to GH¢14.70 in December 2024.
The year-to-date depreciation of the cedi against the dollar peaked at -27.1% in October 2024 before improving to -22.7% in November and further to -19.18% in December 2024.
“In fact, by October, before the intervention [by the Bank of Ghana], the GHS/USD had risen to GH¢16.30,” the IEA stated in a report.
It added, “The question is whether the appreciation in November and December can be sustained. The fact is that, as indicated below, the Bank of Ghana’s intervention alone cannot ensure lasting exchange rate stability without far-reaching reform measures.”
The depreciation in 2024 followed a further depreciation of 27.8% in 2023.
The IEA however attributed the cedi’s depreciation to the significant gap between foreign exchange (FX) demand and supply.
It suggested that forex demand must be reduced by increasing domestic reliance while limiting imports.
“On the FX demand side, it is necessary to actively promote domestic production of import substitutes to reduce demand for FX for imports; entrench fiscal and monetary discipline to reduce demand pressures in the economy, including demand for FX; and enforce domestic FX market regulations to reduce demand for FX,” the IEA noted.
For forex supply, it recommended, “There is a need to actively promote exports to increase FX supply; encourage remittances to boost FX inflows; and increase Ghanaian ownership of resources and economic assets to enhance FX availability in the economy.”
According to the IEA, these proposals are not new, but they have not been given the necessary attention.
“This is the reason for reiterating them here,” the Institute concluded.

Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has pledged his commitment to improving the working conditions of public sector employees in Ghana.
He emphasized the need for fair and equitable wages and proposed policy measures aimed at enhancing productivity while ensuring public workers receive competitive salaries.
Dr. Pelpuo commended the dedication and hard work of Ghanaian workers for their role in driving the nation’s economy.
Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, he stated: “I’m sure you are talking about fair payments for work done, and the need to reconcile the fact that you’re producing and may not be producing hard enough to earn what you are doing and how do we reconcile it.
“I think it’s a major area and I will be tackling it. I’m happy I will do it if you do approve my nomination because it’s a big question for all Ghanaians.
“I know that the Ghanaian worker is very conscientious, very committed, very hardworking. But we need a kind of policy direction to help him produce more so that we can pay and know that we’re paying something worthwhile. We will be committing ourselves to working at it.”

News Hub Creator4h
A communication specialist and social commentator, Raymond Ablorh, has advised Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa not to talk too much during his vetting today, as he is the Minority’s primary target. Doing so could lead them to subject him to intense scrutiny, as they did with Dr. Omane Boamah.
Raymond Ablorh made this post on a comment shared on his Facebook page on 30th January, 2025. He wrote:
“Hon. Ablakwa, you have worked and served your constituency and Ghana in Parliament far better than any of your colleagues who shall interview you today.

Now, relax, listen carefully, and patiently answer every question carefully being mindful of the fact that you’re the number target of the micro minority of Parliament. Don’t talk much. Concise and precise answers. Otherwise, the micro minority shall stretch you like they did Hon. Omane Boamah.

Media personality and entertainment pundit Abena Moet has weighed in on the ongoing scandal involving controversial pastor Prophet Ogyaba.
Speaking on Neat FM, Abena Moet expressed her disappointment in the behavior of some pastors, likening their lifestyles to those in the secular industry.
According to her, being a man of God comes with higher expectations.
“It’s like, right now, pastors are living the same lifestyle as those in the secular industry. There is no accountability.
“When you are a man of God, you are not just another Ghanaian. You should be better. Otherwise, I can also preach when a pastor is preaching,” she said.
She further criticised the lack of accountability among men of God and referenced biblical teachings, stating, “The Bible itself says that many people will do many things in the name of Christ, but on the day of judgment, Christ will say, ‘I know you not.’”
She also questioned Prophet Ogyaba’s response to the scandal, particularly his decision to share a video of himself and his wife shopping for a new phone.
Moet remarked, “For him to shamelessly do that? A man of God? And then he comes out with a video talking about haters and his wife? It’s like good women let men off too easily.”
She further wondered how Ogyaba could preach against fornication and adultery in his church after such a scandal.
Background of the scandal
The controversy began when Cassie, Ogyaba’s alleged ex-side chick, took to social media with explosive claims.
She accused the prophet of neglect, threats to her life, and exposing their extramarital affair, which she claimed resulted in a pregnancy.
Cassie supported her allegations with audio and video evidence, portraying herself as the victim and seeking public sympathy.
Prophet Ogyaba’s response
In a live session with TikTok influencers, Prophet Ogyaba admitted to the affair but defended himself by stating that, like any human, he is prone to mistakes.
He explained that the relationship deteriorated when Cassie claimed she was pregnant with twins, became increasingly demanding, and insisted on moving into his home.
He denied Cassie’s claim of living with him for four months, stating it was only one month.
He added that after sending a cease-and-desist letter, Cassie’s uncle later claimed she had lost the pregnancy due to a fall.
Ogyaba believes her allegations are an act of blackmail and urged the public not to judge him harshly, reminding everyone that even as a man of God, he is still human.
Attempts to salvage his image
Amid the scandal, Prophet Ogyaba shared a video on Instagram of himself and his wife, Mrs. Abigail Boakye, at Kumasi City Mall.
In the video, he explained that they were purchasing a new phone for his wife after their child damaged her old one.
He emphasised their unity, stating, “The First Lady is here,” as they shopped together. His wife appeared happy and smiling throughout the outing.
The video, however, sparked mixed reactions from Ghanaians online.
Many viewed the post as an attempt by Prophet Ogyaba to shift public attention from the scandal and portray his marriage as stable.

Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in his trademark mask
The Court of Appeal has ordered investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to appear in court without a mask in the ongoing case against former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The panel ruled unanimously on Thursday, January 30, 2025, that Anas testifying without a mask constitutionally ensures the accused person receives a fair trial.
In the ruling, Justice Ackaah Boafo criticized the High Court’s initial decision to consider granting Anas’ request to testify in disguise, despite the Supreme Court having already ruled that the undercover journalist must testify without a mask.
“The doctrine of stare decisis binds lower courts to the decisions of higher courts, and as such, the High Court erred in revisiting an issue already settled by the Supreme Court,” the ruling stated.
The panel comprised Justices Anthony Oppong, Ackaah Boafo, and Aboagye Tandoh.
According to the ruling, the renowned investigative journalist must appear and testify in court without his signature mask in the state’s case against Nyantakyi.
The former GFA president faces charges from Anas’ 2018 investigative piece, the Number 12 documentary, in which the former football administrator was captured engaging in corrupt activities.
Accra, Jan.30, GNA- Technological advancement has changed the structure of work, hence, there is the need for an Employment Bill to capture the new trend, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs and Employment, has said.
Dr Pelpuo assured that he would consult the necessary stakeholders and consider the current workplace reforms to review or amend the Labour Act, (Act 651), upon approval.
The nominee made these remarks during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday.
Asked about measures to ensure fair salary payment in the public sector, the nominee noted that considering the number of workers in the public sector and their output, there must be a policy direction to increase productivity.
The nominee said, the 24-hour economy policy would ensure that eight hours working space within 24 hours was efficiently utilised, to increase productivity and re-shape the economy.
On ensuring fairness in payment of workers’ salaries, Dr Pelpuo observed that a key issue in resolving labour unrest was to listen to the Organised Labour, empathise with them, therefore, there must be a concordance between an employee’s output and the salary received.
To promote a safe working environment, the Minister-designate noted that workplace abuses must not be encouraged and thus pledged to promoting the rights of workers, upon approval.
On ways to promote equity in pension payments, Dr Pelpuo said, upon his approval, he would study the Act establishing the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and if there were any lapses, it would be rectified to ensure equity and harmony.
“I will consider unification of all pensions to ensure lesser controversy and fairness for pensioners,” he assured.
On child labour menace, the nominee underscored the need to take child labour issues seriously, noting that child labour should be considered a criminal offence and that would be a priority matter to pursue, upon approval.
Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has revealed that the government is working on a comprehensive policy to establish a 24-hour economy in Ghana.
Speaking before the Appointments Committee during his public hearing, today, Dr. Pelpuo emphasized that the policy aims to engage workers effectively across three 8-hour working shifts within 24 hours.
This will not only increase productivity but also help reshape the economy by supporting businesses and creating more employment opportunities, he added.
The Minister-designate indicated that the policy intends to ensure that businesses, both public and private, operate round-the-clock, giving workers the flexibility to engage in productive work at any given time.
He noted that the initiative would primarily benefit businesses already operating 24 hours while encouraging others to join in.
“The commitment is about ensuring that we work tirelessly to reset this country. We are focused on increasing production, creating value, and satisfying the needs of the Ghanaian people,” Dr. Pelpuo explained.
He further stated that the 24-hour economy would allow businesses to generate value, enhance productivity, and enable workers to earn fair wages.
While some businesses have already adopted a 24-hour work schedule, Dr. Pelpuo acknowledged the challenges they face, including ensuring security, maintaining adequate capacity, and managing energy costs.
He assured that the government would provide the necessary support in these areas, including security, capacity-building, and financial aid for electricity costs.
“This initiative is not just a choice for businesses, but a policy direction backed by the government. We will provide support for organizations that wish to operate within this framework,” he affirmed.
The policy, according to Dr. Pelpuo, will target businesses willing to embrace the 24-hour system, particularly those in need of increased production and employment.
He further explained that for public sector organizations, the shift to a 24-hour economy would be mandated by policy, whereas private businesses would have the option to opt in based on their operational needs.
“The goal is to create more opportunities for our people, particularly our youth, to be engaged in meaningful work. With this policy, we are ensuring that businesses can thrive, workers can earn what they deserve, and the economy can grow sustainably,” he concluded.
Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa and Sam George
Albert Nat Hyde commonly known as Bongo Ideas has fired shots at the minority leader of parliament Afenyo Markin.
According to Bongo Ideas, the appointment committee of parliament has not even vetted the minister-designate for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the minister-designate for Communication Sam George but Afenyo Markin is planning not to pass them.
Afenyo Markin in an interview with Channel One TV revealed that the minority had three NDC MPs not to approve
Murtala Muhammed, the Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, has asserted that banning the importation of plastic bags in Ghana is not a viable solution at this time.
He emphasized the need for comprehensive dialogue on plastic management and the development of sustainable alternatives to address the issue.
Expressing concern over the indiscriminate disposal of plastics, Murtala Muhammed highlighted the importance of adopting a strategic and phased approach.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 30, Murtala Muhammed said, “You don’t just ban because there’s a challenge, you need to be looking for alternatives. So if you don’t have alternatives and you go ahead with to ban, the consequences will be dire.
“What I think I will do is let’s have a comprehensive study on the issue. And find out the alternatives, and how we support our domestic industry to come out with, if you like, reusable containers, and biodegradable packaging.
“And these are the things other countries have done. Rwanda didn’t just ban, they came up with some of these things. They stabilised the system before banning it. So I think that is what I will do.”

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is predicting an inflation of 15-17 per cent in 2025.
This would be higher than the International Monetary Fund forecast of 8 per cent and the Bank of Ghana’s target of 8 +/- 2 per cent.
In its bi-monthly economic outlook, it said inflation should be reduced even further through stronger intervention measures.
The year 2024 ended with inflation of 23.8 per cent, slightly higher than the rate of 23.0 per cent recorded in November.
The end-year inflation was also higher than the 18.0 per cent projected under the IMF-supported programme.
Throughout the year, inflation remained stuck in the low twenties, far above the Bank of Ghana’s target of 8 +/- 2 per cent.
Under the IMF programme, inflation is projected to drop to 8.0 per cent in 2025, the Bank of Ghana mid-point target. This would imply a drop of 15.8 percentage points from the 2024 rate.
This drop, the IEA stated, would, however, seem a bit optimistic, given the poor historical record.
It, therefore, alluded that “a more likely outcome would be 15-17 per cent.
During 2026-29, inflation is projected to remain at 8.0 per cent.
This would appear to be a more realistic scenario, although it would require strong policy measures to achieve those outcomes.”
In December, food inflation was 27.0 per cent, much higher than non-food inflation of 20.3 per cent.
Indeed, throughout the year, food inflation was almost consistently higher than non-food inflation and overall inflation.
This indicates the importance of food, which accounts for 43 per cent of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The IEA said the importance of food, along with energy and the exchange rate, in driving inflation recently was well-known.

“I haven’t started opposing NDC yet; I’m giving them breathing space to settle down” – Afenyo-Markin
News Hub Creator4h
According to reports from Citi News, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has indicated that, although he serves as the leader of the opposition in Parliament, he is currently allowing the government some flexibility to operate without facing significant resistance.
He believes that the time for a more assertive opposition has not yet come.
In an appearance on Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Afenyo-Markin reflected on the strong opposition his party encountered during their time in government, particularly noting how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made governance challenging with their persistent opposition.
He remarked that he is currently providing the government a chance to establish itself, emphasizing that he has not yet begun any substantial opposition.
“At a point, the NDC put up a posture. It’s difficult to be in government. Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet. No, no. I’m not opposed to them oh.
“I have given them a great moment to start their government,” he stated.
Additionally, he praised Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his diplomatic skills and his ability to promote cooperation between the Majority and Minority groups in Parliament.
Afenyo-Markin acknowledged Ayariga’s effective discussions that contributed to a recent apology from the government.
Concerns about the neutrality of panelists discussing national issues have arisen following President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of prominent political commentators, Prof. Ransford Gyampo and Prof. Kobby Mensah, to key political positions.
President Mahama appointed Prof. Ransford Gyampo, a political science professor at the University of Ghana, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, while Prof. Kobby Mensah was named the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited.
These appointments have left many in shock, particularly as both professors had been vocal critics of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, often discussing issues they believed were in the public interest.
Comments on social media reflected a mix of disbelief and criticism. One user, AgbelimorK59060, expressed skepticism: “Wow… Now I believe there’s no neutral in Ghana! Everyone belongs to a political party. So Prof was making all the noise because of the appointment!!! Very soon Prof Gyampo, will also get his appointment. How far Jonnie Hughes??”.
Another user, TheYungMagician, lamented: “Ei Ghana!!! Personal interest nkoaaa!!!! They parade themselves as experts and neutrals pushing for national interest meanwhile personal interest nkoaaa. Shame on you all.”
Dan Taylor added, “Stomach social media commentators with ingrained interests. We’re gradually seeing and identifying all of them. Indeed there is no smoke without fire.”
User @GbambeguJabi remarked on the trend of appointments: “All the regular panelists (talking heads) on TV3’s Key Points have been sorted. Martin Kpebu, Nana Gyantuah, Kobby Mensah, and now Ransford Gyampo. The appointment is incomplete if the host of the show, Alfred Ocansey, is not appointed.”
Lastly, @sonofjacob98 criticized the situation: “Neutralfoc dey chop CEO left right center. No wonder he was forcing UG lecturers to go on strike!!! How would they feel knowing he used them to advance his own interests?”
The comments surrounding these appointments raises important questions about impartiality in political discourse and the influence of personal interests on public service.
Taking advantage of the lenient positions of Western powers and the United Nations toward it and its regional sponsors, the terrorist RSF Janjaweed militia is continuously escalating its war of aggression against the people, state, national institutions, and infrastructure of Sudan.
In this context, the terrorist militia has committed a heinous crime this morning by setting the Khartoum Refinery in the Gari area ablaze. This terrorist act came after the militia realized it could no longer hold on to the area, having been besieged by the Sudanese Armed Forces and supporting forces, after they managed to cross the massive minefields the Militia had planted around the refinery.
This senseless crime not only reflects the desperation and psychological defeat the Militia is experiencing, but is also a clear war crime and one of the worst forms of terrorism. It once again confirms that the Militia is deliberately and systematically targeting the pillars of development, essential services, and modern life in the country. The new crime came shortly in the wake of similar attacks on electricity stations in Merowe, Al-Shawak, Sinnar, Sennjah, Dongola, and Um Dabbakir, countless water stations, agricultural machinery, irrigation channels in the Gezira Scheme, Sugar factories in Al-Genid and Sinnar, bridges, universities, banks, and commercial and economic centers in Khartoum, Wad Madani, Sennjah, Nyala, Al-Fasher, and Al-Geneina. All of these attacks aim to displace the Sudanese population, as part of the terrorist militia’s genocidal strategy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that this heinous crime is yet another nail in the coffin of the criminal militia, following a series of devastating military, political, and moral defeats it was dealt. The Sudanese people, who have displayed great deal of resilience and courage, are fully capable of recovering all that has been lost in this war that was imposed upon them.
We reiterate our call to all members of the international community to take the morally correct stance by condemning this barbaric act and holding the terrorist militia and its sponsors accountable.
Signed:
The Republic of Sudan – Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Court of Appeal has ruled that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas must testify in court without his iconic mask.
The Court of Appeal has ruled that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas must testify in open court without his signature mask in the ongoing case of Republic v. Kwesi Nyantakyi.
In a unanimous decision delivered on Thursday, January 30, 2025, the three-member panel comprising Justices Anthony Oppong, Ackaah Boafo, and Aboagye Tandoh determined that Anas could not give testimony while concealing his identity.
Justice Ackaah Boafo, who delivered the ruling, underscored the constitutional right of an accused person to a fair trial, emphasising that this right outweighs the state’s witness protection arguments.
The court held that in a criminal trial, the accused must have the opportunity to see and challenge their accuser, a fundamental principle that takes precedence over anonymity.
Additionally, the Court of Appeal criticised the High Court’s decision to reconsider the state’s request for Anas to testify in disguise.
It ruled that the High Court was bound by a prior Supreme Court ruling on the matter and should not have entertained a second application on the same issue.
The doctrine of stare decisis compels lower courts to adhere to precedents set by higher courts. The High Court, therefore, erred in reopening an issue already resolved by the Supreme Court
This judgement means that Anas, widely known for his undercover investigative journalism, must appear in court without his trademark hood when testifying against former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Background on the case
The case stems from Anas’ 2018 Number 12 exposé, which allegedly captured Kwesi Nyantakyi accepting cash gifts and engaging in influence peddling.
Following the exposé, Nyantakyi resigned as GFA President and lost his roles as a FIFA Council Member and 1st Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Subsequently, FIFA imposed a lifetime ban on Nyantakyi and fined him 500,000 Swiss Francs.
He was also charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and corruption by a public officer but was later granted bail with sureties.
While his lifetime ban was later reduced to 15 years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the scandal significantly damaged Nyantakyi’s reputation.
Minister nominee for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr Rashid Pelpuo, has reiterated his commitment to working with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to ensure that the productivity of workers aligns with their earnings.
Dr Pelpuo made this statement when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday, 30th January 2025, where he outlined his vision for enhancing productivity and addressing employment challenges in Ghana.
When asked about his strategy for ensuring that workers’ output matches their earnings, Dr Pelpuo emphasised the complexity of the issue, noting that it involves numerous individuals and organisations.
He pledged to collaborate with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to tackle this challenge, acknowledging its constitutional implications.
On the topic of gender representation in the workforce, Dr Pelpuo recognised the need to promote gender balance and equal opportunities within the workforce.
He also expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges facing Ghana’s workforce and fostering economic growth through collaboration with the private sector.
To tackle the issue of unemployment, Dr Pelpuo spoke about the ongoing development of a Labour Market Information System, which will provide a comprehensive database of job vacancies and potential candidates.
This system would allow the private sector to advertise job openings and connect with prospective employees.
Dr Pelpuo also emphasised the importance of supporting the private sector in creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. He suggested that the government offer incentives for private sector investment, such as access to credit and investment opportunities.
“We will encourage the private sector to produce as much as they can, and we will support them,” Dr. Pelpuo assured.
He also mentioned that the government’s “24-hour economy” initiative is designed to boost production and foster economic growth.
When asked whether the government has plans to increase salaries for public sector workers, Dr Pelpuo confirmed that it is one of the key areas under consideration.
He assured that, once he takes office, he will prioritise this issue and take necessary action.

play videoGhanaian actress and TV host, Nana Ama McBrown
Given Nana Ama McBrown’s high level of success in the acting field, it is expected that she might have encountered notorious film directors who tried to pressure her for sex in exchange for roles while climbing the career ladder.
However, she has established that she never faced such situations.
Speaking on the practice, which has become prevalent in the showbiz space, McBrown has stated that she is not the type of woman, men can easily manipulate into having an affair.
In a discussion on Onua Showtime, she said she would not hide any man she is involved with.
“When I entered the movie industry, I didn’t meet anyone who tried to sneak their way into a secret affair with me because I don’t hide my relationships. I can’t hide who I’m with. It’s a must that I show whoever I’m with to the public,” she bluntly stated.
She further narrated a story about a man named Morris, who gave her her first movie script, and how they later became a couple.
McBrown fondly recalled how she was captivated by Morris’ handsomeness, gentleness, and kindness.
She said they were drawn to each other as he helped guide her through the set.
By the end of the project, McBrown said they became a couple, not just a ‘fling’.
“There was a man who gave me my first movie script early in my career, his name is Morris. Every time we were on set, he held my hand and guided me. He taught me a lot of things and helped me navigate through. He’s extremely handsome, soft-spoken, charming, and respectful.
“A fair-skinned Akuapem man. Everyone can attest to this. Before we finished our project, we became sweethearts,” she recounted.
McBrown added that when their relationship became public, it helped ward off unwanted attention from other men.
“Our relationship became known to a lot of people, and we dated for two and a half years. His family and everyone around him knew me. People didn’t make passes at me because everyone knew about us, and Morris was a highly respected person,” she said.
The interviewer, Kwesi Ernest, jokingly added, “I’m sure after this, a lot of people will start searching for him.”
McBrown responded, “Let them search, he is a nice guy.”

A photo collage of Oliver Barker-Vormawor (L) and Ellen Ama Daaku
A member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ellen Ama Daaku, has urged the public to ignore comments made by private legal practitioner and activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
Speaking on UTV on Thursday, January 30, 2025, she criticised Barker-Vormawor, labelling him as an attention seeker who deliberately engages in such behaviours for publicity.
She went on to suggest to the Appointments Committee of Parliament to disregard his actions, noting that the committee members are familiar with his past conduct.
“He is an attention seeker, left with me, the members of the Appointments Committee should ignore him. They know his character and the things he has done in the past, I’ve seen that he has posted on his social media platforms that he intends to leave the country,” she stated.
The NPP communications team member further described Barker-Vormawor as someone with Attention Deficit Syndrome, a condition she speculated he developed in his childhood, which manifested in his adult life.
She likened him to a troubled child who frequently throws tantrums, advising the committee to ignore him.
“I think he has Attention Deficit Syndrome, which he developed as a child so in his adulthood, he always wants to be in the news.
“He is a typical example of a troubled child. He is always throwing tantrums, so, I feel the committee should have ignored him. He is a troubled child, he should be ignored,” she noted.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Barker-Vormawor appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, upon a summons, following comments he made on social media regarding alleged bribery in the approval processes of ministerial nominees who come before the committee.
He had suggested in a post on social media on Friday, January 24, 2025, that the committee members receive money in order to approve nominees, prompting a backlash.
The post read, “So, all the money the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those not affected by ORAL? Strange Republic.”
But during his appearance before the committee, he apologised, clarifying that his post was not meant to insult any member of the committee or suggest that bribes were being taken.
He explained, “I want to make it clear that my post was not meant to disparage any member of the committee. I did not intend to imply that committee members received or demanded bribes from any individual. For this reason, I apologise.”

Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister-Designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has clarified remarks he made about unemployment, stating that his comments were misinterpreted.
This follows reports from 2020 that the Wa Central MP advised young people to consider alternative ways of addressing unemployment, such as gathering stones to sell at construction sites or cutting grass to sell in areas where livestock are bred.
He reportedly stated that success in life does not always require formal education, but rather a shift in mindset, perception, and determined attitude.
Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr Pelpuo explained that his statement was meant to encourage young graduates to explore alternative employment opportunities rather than rely solely on government jobs.
According to him, he was quoting an example to emphasise self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Pelpuo further elaborated that his point was about identifying opportunities within communities to create sustainable livelihoods.
“I know what I was talking about and when I realized that people were misunderstanding and misusing it, I started looking for the full tape to play so people could see what I was talking about.
“So, it is simply not the case that I told graduates to do so. I was just quoting somebody and trying to encourage my Ghanaian fellows that if you are, for example, a nurse and you have a skill, you are better off. If you go into a community and there are no nurses, you can start something on your own.
“…If you go into a community and the people consume a particular product, you can go and get those products and send them there; that is a bigger form of it. It was a basic example I was citing. It is to give perspective to the Ghanaian workforce so we can find within ourselves the capacity and the means to earn a living,” he stated.
What Rashid Pelpuo said about unemployment
My NPP friends can’t get over their fascination over my stone and grass comment😃To make them happier I repeat. I quoted a specialist. Even if you’re uneducated, no skills you can still work. You can gather stones where they build or cut grasses where they breed animals to sell.
Ghanaian US based social media commentator Twene Jonas has taken on his countrymen seeking his downfall.
According to Twene Jonas, some Ghanaians have started tagging and mentioning him in posts to US President Donald Trump, with the aim of getting him deported back to Ghana.
Twene Jonas, who has not only been scared but angry at this behavior, has issued a stern warning to Ghanaians.
The BoG’s gold reserves are estimated to be worth approximately $2.72 billion
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has significantly increased its gold holdings, with reserves rising from 19.5 tonnes in December 2023 to 30.5 tonnes by December 2024.
This represents a substantial addition of 11 tonnes to the central bank’s gold reserves within a single year.
At current market values, the BoG’s gold reserves are estimated to be worth approximately $2.72 billion.
This sharp increase in gold reserves is part of the BoG’s broader strategy to enhance Ghana’s financial stability, strengthen the local currency (the cedi), and reduce the country’s reliance on foreign currencies, particularly the US dollar.
The central bank’s efforts align with its goal of building a more resilient and self-sufficient economy.
The growth in Ghana’s gold reserves is largely attributed to two key initiatives: the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP), which focuses on sourcing gold locally, and the Gold for Oil policy, which allows Ghana to use its gold reserves to purchase oil.
This strategy reduces pressure on foreign exchange reserves and supports the cedi.
Additionally, these programs were designed to leverage Ghana’s abundant natural resources to stabilize the economy and reduce external vulnerabilities.
Meanwhile, some economic experts have welcomed the BoG’s gold accumulation strategy, noting that it provides a stronger buffer for Ghana’s financial system.
They believe that the upward trend in gold acquisitions will enhance the country’s ability to navigate global economic challenges, such as fluctuating commodity prices and geopolitical tensions.
As the BoG continues to build its gold reserves, the move is expected to reinforce investor confidence, support the cedi, and provide a solid foundation for the country’s economic future.

West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) to commence cleaning soon
The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO), owners and operators of the West African Gas Pipeline, will on February 5, commence the maintenance activities on the offshore section of the pipeline stretching from Nigeria to Aboadze in Ghana.
The exercise which would also be used to change the subsea valves of the pipeline would be completed on March 2, 2025.
Dr Isaac Adjei Doku, General Manager of Corporate Affairs of the company made this known during a media briefing at the Aboadze metering station to promote public understanding of the activities, ensure transparency as well as provide accurate information on how the activities would affect gas transportation services and measures in place to ensure a safe and timely execution of the project.
The Corporate Affairs Manager said the company had begun installing the necessary equipment, including an effluent management system for the project.
Dr. Doku explained that, per the West African Gas Pipeline Authority’s regulations, WAPCO was required to clean and inspect the pipeline every five years.
He said the February cleaning would be the third since the establishment of the processing plant and that the first cleaning was done in 2012, the second in 2020 and the third in 2025.
The cleaning dubbed “PIGGING,” is being done to remove debris, dirt, and liquids from the pipelines.
It is also to inspect the internal walls of the pipelines, replace subsea valves and conduct ancillary works needed.
According to him, during the cleaning period, the company would temporarily suspend the reverse gas flow transportation of natural gas from Ghana’s Western Region to Tema in the East and Gas transportation services from Nigeria to Cotonou (Benin), Lomé (Togo) and Tema (Ghana).
Dr. Doku indicated that the company would not suspend all its services, adding that an average of about 90,000 mmscf/d of gas required to push the Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG) from Nigeria to Takoradi would be transported, which means WAPCO would be transporting gas to Takoradi.
On safety and efficiency, he said the maintenance would prioritise the safety of the workers and that WAPCO has extensively engaged all relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful project.
“WAPCO engineering and safety teams have worked to develop a comprehensive plan to ensure all activities are completed safely and efficiently as possible.”
Dr. Doku explained that most of activities would take place offshore at the two WAPCO facilities that is, WAPCO’s Lagos beach compressor station located at Badagry, Lagos State Nigeria and Takoradi at the Aboadze regulating metering station.
“Our Lagos Beach compressor station is where the cleaning and inspection devices known as PIGs will be inserted into the pipeline, while the Aboadze regulating and metering station is where each PIG will arrive after traveling through the 569 km stretch of pipeline”.
He hinted that WAPCO anticipated only a minimal disruption to the activities of host communities within the vicinity of their facilities in Badagry Nigeria and Aboadze , Ghana as most of their activities would be offshore and confined within the premises of their facilities.
Dr. Doku said the exercise was paramount because it was regulatory to ensure safe reliable operations, aligned with industry best practices as well as confirmed the conditions and integrity of the pipeline.
He said the company had engaged the Environmental Protection Agencies in the respective countries and was implementing a world class affluent management system at its facilities in Takoradi where the company expects to receive some effluent from the cleaning of the offshore pipeline.
Dr. Doku expressed the company’s gratitude to the governments of Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, and Benin for their support.
He also appreciated the Maritime and regulatory authorities across the four counties as well as its customers, shippers, gas off-takers, host communities and all stakeholders.
Auwal Ibrahim, WAPCO General Manager of Operations and Maintenance said “WAPCO is committed to maintaining the proactive stakeholder engagement processes established during the project’s preparation phase and during execution.”
He said the company would continue to engage with the relevant stakeholders on all matters to ensure the project’s safe execution success.
He said though the cleaning exercise was cost inclusive WAPCO would maintain its prices for its customers.

Ghanaian musician, Kwabena Kwabena, has called on artistes in the country to be considerate of the rate they charge event promoters living abroad when their services are required.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, on January 29, 2025, Kwabena Kwabena indicated that before an artiste would charge for a show, they should have a proper discussion.
“I think there is a miscommunication on the part of the new crop of artistes. Those of us who have been in the industry for quite some time understand how these things work so promoters abroad do not find it difficult working with us. But these new artistes are living in a certain mindset that needs to be corrected.
“In recent times, if you are not an artiste who is on an international record label, that has the capacity to pitch you to the rest of the world… the new generation of artistes do not have all these technicalities at hand, which is why the promoters out there are pulling back. Also, there should be proper communication with both parties,” he said.
Kwabena Kwabena added that Ghanaians abroad find it difficult to attend events with high rates, therefore, organisers find it difficult to generate revenue at the end of concerts.
“When it comes to Ghanaian promoters out there, they only sell the shows to Ghanaians there, and that is what the artistes here do not get. Also, Ghanaians there find it difficult to attend events with higher rates. Again, the auditoriums that they use for our shows are not large… They do not get enough in terms of revenue, so that should also inform how an artiste should charge them,” he added.
Minority Blocks Armah-Kofi Buah’s Approval Over Controversial Comments on Akufo-Addo
News Hub Creator3h
There is a strong political fight going on in Parliament as the Minority strongly rejects Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah’s appointment as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
They are upset because he won’t take back or say sorry for what he said about former President Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025. During his review, Armah-Kofi Buah said that his words, which some found rude and unsuitable, were not meant to offend the former President. He said that they showed the political situation of that time.
Even with increasing pressure from the minority group, he stayed strong and did not take back what he said or apologise. The Minority says that his position is not acceptable. They argue that these comments disrespect the role of the President and could lead to more problems in the future.
They have promised to oppose his election, saying that people in important positions should act respectfully and properly, no matter their political beliefs. The Appointments Committee majority has suggested approving him, which has increased the political conflict.
This issue is likely to cause intense discussions in Parliament, with the Minority opposing it and the Majority supporting the approval. Both sides are firm in their positions, making the next few days important for deciding if Armah-Kofi Buah will get the minister job, despite the issues with his nomination.
