A Nigerian female Disc Jockey (DJ), Princess Ntuk, professionally known as DJ Pretty Play is a drop dead gorgeous with disconcerting curves and edges accentuated by a bulbous behind many would spend millions to acquire. But according to her in a recent video shared on Instagram she broke down in tears complaining that her ass is getting in the way of her career.
She bemoaned what many would consider a blessing, begging people to focus on her DJ career and talent instead of her ass, which according to her, trends in the social space far more than her career.
She wails, ” Please I’m a professional DJ and very good at what I do but what seems to interest you guys is my ass. Guys, please I’m tired. Every time I wake up what trends about me is my ass, not my talent or DJ career. Even when I’m demure and not shaking my ass and just being me and quiet, all what you guys talk about is my ass. Why? Please I’m tired of this. Am I not a good DJ? I’m a professional DJ, the attention should be on my craft.”
“Even the wedding I performed yesterday the topic on social media was about my ass and not my performance. Why? Because the topic was my ass it trended greatly and people shared and reshared it many times but when it is about my mixes and my work it doesn’t trend.
What you guys should know is that I’m married. I’m somebody’s wife. It is not nice to be talking about a married woman’s ass. Why are you people sharing another man’s ass and trending with it,” she said sobbing and getting down on her knees to beg further.
Accusations of financial misconduct have rocked Ghana’s political landscape as the Movement for Justice Ghana has filed a formal complaint against Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister Designate for Foreign Affairs, citing allegations of money laundering and financial impropriety. The group has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to launch an investigation into the matter.
The petition, signed by representatives of the movement, raises concerns over what they describe as unexplained wealth and questionable financial dealings by the North Tongu MP. Among the allegations is the purchase of a brand-new Honda CRV for a medical doctor in Battor, with doubts cast over the source of funding. “MPs’ Common Funds are not meant for purchasing vehicles for donations outside a structured rewards scheme,” the petition states.
Further concerns stem from Ablakwa’s alleged ownership of plush properties in high-end areas, including Airport Hills and Tse Addo, valued at millions of dollars. The petitioners argue that such assets appear inconsistent with the known income of a public official, demanding an investigation into their funding.
Additionally, the Movement for Justice Ghana claims that Ablakwa is the sole shareholder of Volta Klenam Farms and Industries Limited, a company that has allegedly not been registered with the Ghana Revenue Authority and has not paid taxes. The petition calls for an inquiry into the GHS 500,000 cash transaction used to acquire shares in the company.
Citing the importance of accountability, the group insists that leaders must hold themselves to the same standards they demand of others. “The chairman of ORAL should not be afraid to subject himself to the principles of probity and accountability. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands… This is a crusade for God and country,” the statement read.
While Ablakwa has yet to respond publicly to the allegations, his supporters argue that the accusations are politically motivated. However, the Movement for Justice Ghana maintains that their call for transparency is in the nation’s best interest.
As the Special Prosecutor reviews the petition, Ghanaians await further developments in a case that could shape conversations around integrity in public office. Will this investigation reveal wrongdoing, or is this a politically charged move against a vocal legislator? The coming days will provide answers.

Additional information regarding the nighttime attack on the former Director of Operations at Jubilee House, Lord Commey’s residence in Dansoman, has been made public by Adomonline.com.
The attack took place on the evening of January 31, 2025, and involved individuals in both military and civilian clothing who said they were under orders to tow Mr. Commey’s cars to a National Security facility called Blue Gate. According to our sources inside Mr. Commey’s house, the men insisted on taking six of his automobiles away.
The cars were a Maserati that belonged to Mr. Commey’s wife and a Range Rover that he used himself. Mr. Commey’s private firm owned the other four Chinese pickups, which were parked in a different building across from his primary residence. Our source claims that Mr. Commey’s private security and other residents of his home were attacked, and as a result, they were compelled to give in to their demands in order to get entry to his facilities.
Our source claims that although Mr. Commey was not there when the attack occurred, he was called in because the scene had drawn a lot of neighborhood bystanders. Our source claims that when he arrived, a composed Mr. Commey requested that the automobile not be towed and instead offered to give the men the keys so they could drive the cars away securely without causing any damage to any of them. Our source claims that even the police officers who were summoned in to control the situation were unable to halt the roving males.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has emphasised the critical role of urgently expanding internet access across Africa in bridging the digital divide and driving prosperity on the continent.
Addressing guests and participants at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 on February 1, President Mahama admonished African leaders to prioritize investments in digital infrastructure, citing the transformative impact it could have on trade, commerce, and economic participation
According to him, expanding internet access and digital infrastructure is essential to unlocking the success of Africa.
President Mahama explained that expanding internet access and digital infrastructure will help create new opportunities for people to start businesses, innovate, and get jobs, ultimately bringing prosperity.
“The fourth industrial revolution presents a golden opportunity for Africans to reform traditional development modules. We don’t need to go back to inventing the wheel. Digital transformation can drive financial inclusion.
It can improve public service delivery and create new opportunities for all our people. We must therefore expand our internet access and digital infrastructure to bridge the digital divide. We must encourage fintech and e-commerce to facilitate trade and economic participation,” he reiterated.
President Mahama stated further that technology can make Africa more competitive if embraced strategically.

A 27-year-old Ghanaian woman has shared details about her life as a sex worker, shedding light on the challenges and realities of her profession.
Speaking in an interview on the Afisem Show on Lawson TV on January 31, 2025, she revealed that she services up to 20 clients daily, charging between GH¢100 and GH¢150 per encounter.
According to her, she began prostitution while in SHS in Kumasi, where she would skip school during midterms to find money from men.
She explained that prostitution is not only physically demanding but also mentally exhausting. She highlighted that, despite the social stigma associated with the trade, many women are forced into it due to financial hardships and limited employment opportunities.
“I sleep with 20 men a day. I charge between GH¢100 and GH¢ 150. This is how I survive. I have needs just like everyone else, and this is the way I make my living,” she stated.
“Some men refuse to pay after the service, while others try to abuse us, but we have to endure because this is our job.”
The young woman further disclosed that she faces several risks in her line of work, including clients who refuse to pay for services rendered and those who attempt to abuse sex workers. Additionally, law enforcement officers often harass them, adding to the difficulties of the job.
Despite these challenges, she expressed a strong desire to leave the profession if given the opportunity.
“I’m a talented hairdresser, and I look forward to stopping prostitution if someone would help me start a business,” she said.

The aggrieved Menzgold customers have urged President John Dramani Mahama to include them in his first budget statement.
The group’s convener, Fred Forson, estimates they will require approximately GH¢200 million to pay the over 11,000 members whose funds were locked up with the defunct company.
He lamented that all efforts to retrieve their frozen funds had failed, and they hoped that the new government would address the issue.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, he expressed concern about the difficulties the members have faced due to the company’s problems over the years.
He served notice that they will remain resilient and not allow the matter to go unresolved. He said the customers need their locked-up funds released because a lot of them have suffered, with 235 dead, out of which three or four persons committed suicide.
Fred Forson emphasized that the Menzgold saga has rendered people homeless, destroyed marriages, left others with strokes and various degrees of medical issues, and caused mental health-related problems.
“President John Dramani Mahama’s administration is new, and we understand that people have expectations, as do we. Our request is that the President allocate GH¢200 million in his maiden budget.
“We understand how tight and competitive it is, especially when competing interest groups want their concerns addressed in the budget. Our problem is also dire and requires serious action. We are asking him to set aside at least GH¢ 200 million.
“He had been the best ally when he was in opposition, so now that he is President, we are waiting patiently for him to invite us over. We are willing to accept it even if he can only do half of the GH¢200 million.”

Through Radio Gold, he helped shape political discussions and promoted press freedom in the country. Many people remember him as a strong and determined man who used the media to inform and educate Ghanaians.
Baffoe-Bonnie was not just a media owner; he was also involved in politics. He was a supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and worked closely with the party. According to the report by TV3 GH today, a popular pastor in the Akropong Constituency, Eastern Region of Ghana, was caught by members of his own church in a compromising situation with a female worshipper.
The incident, which has sent ripples through the local community, occurred at the church’s guest house, located on the church premises.
According to reports, the pastor, who has been leading the church for over a decade, was found in a guest room with the female congregant late in the evening.
The situation unfolded when a few church members decided to visit the guest house to speak with the pastor about an upcoming event.
Upon knocking and receiving no response, they decided to enter. To their surprise, they found the pastor and the woman in a private setting.
“He was caught in the room with the lady, and when we asked what was going on, he couldn’t explain himself,” one of the church members, who preferred to remain anonymous, said in an interview.
“This is not the kind of behaviour we expect from a leader of the church. It’s a sad day for us.”
The church, which had been known for its strong emphasis on moral values and integrity, is now facing intense scrutiny from both its members and the public.
Many are questioning the pastor’s leadership and the overall integrity of the church’s teachings.
“How could someone who preaches about holiness and righteousness be involved in such a scandal?” another member of the congregation said.
“We trusted him, but this is a betrayal.”
In the aftermath of the incident, the pastor has remained silent, avoiding direct comments on the situation.
However, it is believed that he has been asked to step down from his position temporarily as the church leadership investigates the matter.
Local authorities have not been involved yet, as the incident is currently being handled by the church’s internal body.
Still, some members of the community are calling for a thorough investigation and for the pastor to be held accountable for his actions.
“People look up to pastors for guidance,” one concerned local said.
Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has hosted its third congregation in the Ashanti Region.
Members of the academic board, convocation, graduating students, and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate the conclusion of another academic journey.
A total of 8,274 students were awarded Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees.
The ceremony underscored the university’s progress towards achieving academic excellence while reflecting on areas of improvement.
The Vice-Chancellor of AAMUSTED, Professor Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, urged graduates to foster strong alumni relations to support the university’s development.
“Learn to adapt to change, as well as the challenges and opportunities in the world of work. I am confident that the education and training you have received from this university have equipped you with technical knowledge and the flexibility to tackle current and future challenges wherever you may go. We are building a strong alumni relations system, and I encourage you, the fresh graduates, to join the alumni Association.
“We have enhanced the students’ internship programme, workplace experience learning, teaching support in schools, and industrial attachment to make student training more practical. We are deeply grateful for the invaluable support provided by state agencies such as GTEC, CTVET, GTVET Service, and our numerous local and international partners like GIZ, WUSC, and UNESCO, all of whom have contributed to our survival and growth as a young university,” he said.
The third AAMUSTED congregation marked the graduation of the first batch of students matriculated for four-year degree programmes.
AAMUSTED has completed a national and internal university-wide Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA). As a result, the university has developed eighty-six (86) new academic programmes focused on TVET, ATVET, STEM/STEAM, and entrepreneurial education, in consultation with key stakeholders.
Bantamahene, Nana Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, urged the graduates to be innovative and prioritise collaboration.
“I need not tell you that unemployment has been one of the key challenges facing our nation for many years. If you cannot find immediate employment, do not waste time endlessly searching for rare opportunities. Instead, come together and create something for yourselves.
“I encourage you to take the initiative and venture into opportunities to earn a living. That is how many of the world’s most successful individuals began, starting small before growing into flourishing businesses,” he said.
Professor Frederick Kwaku Sarfo also addressed some of the university’s ongoing challenges that require attention.
“We continue to face challenges such as insufficient student accommodation, lecture halls, and staff offices. The university requires modern library buildings, ICT centres with up-to-date facilities, workshops, and laboratory spaces to accommodate the growing student population. We also need an ultra-modern hospital to serve our staff, students, and the surrounding communities on both campuses.
“The university requires adequate financial clearance to hire additional staff and reduce the high student-to-lecturer ratio. There is also a shortage of staff in non-teaching directorates, including the Registry, the Library, the Directorate of Works, Physical Development and Facility Management, the Directorate of Internal Audit, and the Directorates of Health Services and Finance,” he said.
Following the political transition and the dissolution of all Boards and Councils on January 7, 2025, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has assumed responsibility for the management of tertiary educational institutions.
By the Presidential Transition Act, 2012 (Act 847), the Commission will now oversee decisions traditionally made by these Councils to maintain stability in educational governance.
Tertiary institutions have been advised to suspend decisions that would typically have been made by their Councils and refer such matters to the Commission for guidance.
Deputy Director-General of GTEC, Professor Francis K.E. Nunoo, highlighted that the Act sets a precedent for smooth leadership transitions within the education sector.
“This Act has been pivotal in ensuring a seamless transition of governance. Just as it has brought clarity to political transitions, we must also ensure that leadership changes in educational institutions are equally smooth. Clear guidelines and succession planning should be integral to the leadership culture across all our tertiary institutions,” he stated.

According to the report by GHOne TV today Saturday, in Ho, Volta Region, two suspected robbers were shot dead by police officers in a dramatic standoff after they were found holding a local businessman hostage and demanding a ransom of GHS 34,000.
The incident unfolded late Friday evening when police responded to a distress call from Kwasi Appiah, a prominent businessman in Ho.
Kwasi, 45, was reportedly on his way home from a business meeting when he was ambushed by the robbers near his shop in the town.
The suspects, identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, 32, and Kwame Osei, 28, threatened him with firearms and forced him into his car, demanding the large sum of money.
“They had guns pointed at me and kept asking for GHS 34,000. They told me that if I didn’t give them the money, they would kill me,” Kwasi recalled in an interview.
Kwasi’s family quickly became aware of the situation and contacted the police.
Authorities were able to track the suspect’s vehicle and launched an operation to rescue him.
The police surrounded the area where the robbers were holding Kwasi, and a tense negotiation ensued.
However, things quickly escalated when one of the robbers attempted to flee while firing at the officers.
“We tried to negotiate with them to release the businessman peacefully, but they refused.
One of the suspects fired shots at our officers, and that’s when we were forced to act,” said Superintendent Enoch Tetteh, the officer in charge of the operation.
In response, the police opened fire, killing both Abubakar and Kwame on the spot. Kwasi was rescued unharmed, though visibly shaken by the experience.
An eyewitness, Ama Ofori, who lives nearby, described the scene.
“It all happened so fast. I saw the police surround the car, and then there was shooting. It was very scary,” Ama said.
Local residents were divided on the incident. While some expressed relief that the businessman was saved, others questioned whether the police had other options before resorting to lethal force.
“We are happy that the police saved Mr. Appiah, but we wonder if there was any way they could have handled the situation without killing anyone,” said Kwame Asante, a local shopkeeper.
The police have since launched an investigation into the matter.
Superintendent Tetteh emphasized that the officers had followed protocol and acted in self-defense.
“We will review the full details of the incident, but the situation was dangerous, and the officers did what they had to do to protect the life of the hostage,” he said.
The bodies of the robbers were taken to the Ho morgue for further examination, and the police are continuing their efforts to identify any possible connections to other criminals.
CEO of Facility Pro and Managing Director at Brain Hills International School, Mary Anane Awuku
In the recent business landscape, attracting and retaining top talent has become a strategic priority for companies aiming for sustained success.
Currently, the market is saturated with businesses vying for the same crop of skilled professionals, making it more challenging to stand out as an Employer of Choice.
Leading astute entrepreneur and CEO of Facility Pro and Managing Director at Brain Hills International School, Mary Anane Awuku, manages a team of hundreds of workers steering the affairs of the school and providing cleaning and facility management services to key sectors like banking and healthcare within West Africa and beyond.
According to her, a lot is said countless times about the correlation between well-being and productivity in the personal and professional lives of employees. To her, a content and healthy workforce is not just a happy coincidence, but the cornerstone of any thriving business irrespective of the sector, size, or location.
Speaking in a panel discussion at the maiden edition of the Ghana CEO’s Breakfast Series, organized by the Business Executive Group, the author of the book “Entrepreneurial Success,” Mary Anane Awuku, outlined certain strategies that CEOs can deeply embed in their company’s culture, woven into the fabric of human resources policies and initiatives that can create a culture of excellence.
Here are the top strategies CEOs can adopt to become employers of choice in today’s saturated marketplace:
An organization’s success is closely tied to the well-being of its employees. “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of their clients,” Richard Branson.
According to her, companies must create policies and initiatives that promote a healthy work-life balance, support mental health, and provide flexibility.
This can be done through offering competitive benefits and compensation including good salary packages along with other attractive incentives like health insurance and wellness programs that demonstrate that the company values its employees.
A culture of excellence goes beyond just setting high standards for your employees; it involves fostering an environment where people feel valued, inspired, and motivated to give their best. To establish this culture, companies need to implement the following:
Promote Open Communication: An open and transparent communication culture builds trust and empowers employees to share ideas and voice concerns. When employees feel heard, they are more likely to contribute their best effort.
Create a Flexible Work Environment: As remote and hybrid work models become more prevalent, flexible work arrangements can enhance job satisfaction and attract top talent. At Facility Pro, workers work on a part-time basis with a morning and evening shift system.
Mental Health Support: Providing access to mental health resources, employee assistance programs, or regular wellness workshops can foster a supportive work environment.
A company that values diversity and inclusion is more likely to attract a broader range of talented professionals. A diverse workforce brings different perspectives to the table and enhances innovation and problem-solving capabilities.
Promote Inclusivity in the Workplace: An inclusive workplace is one where employees from different backgrounds feel accepted and supported. Companies can create employee resource groups, mentorship programs, and diversity-focused training sessions to encourage inclusivity.
Celebrating employees’ achievements not only boosts morale but also reinforces a culture of high performance. Recognizing your team’s efforts can come in many forms, from monetary bonuses to public acknowledgment during meetings.
Mary Anane Awuku urged CEOs to invest in mental health by prioritizing employees’ well-being, fostering diversity, and celebrating achievements. She added, “Together, let’s continue to create workplaces that inspire excellence and unlock the workforce’s full potential.”

The Minister-designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has expressed strong support for his colleague, Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor, MP for South Dayi, amid his recent suspension from Parliament.

President Donald Trump has pushed into new trade law territory with an emergency sanctions law to justify punishing 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports and an extra 10% duty on Chinese goods to curb fentanyl and illegal immigration into the U.S.
Trade and legal experts said the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) is untested for imposing import tariffs and Trump’s action will likely face swift court challenges that could set important precedents.
As widely expected, Trump declared a national emergency under IEEPA on Saturday, citing the “extraordinary threat” from fentanyl and illegal immigration. The law gives the president broad powers to impose economic and financial sanctions in times of crisis, including against Russia over its war in Ukraine.
IEEPA gave Trump, in the second week of his second term in the White House, the fastest path to imposing tariffs, as trade laws he used in his first four years for duties on steel, aluminium, and Chinese goods would have required months-long investigations and public consultations.
“The courts have historically upheld the president’s power to take emergency actions, especially when they are related to national security,” said Tim Brightbill, who co-chairs the international trade practice at the law firm Wiley Rein.
“The question is, does that include tariffs since IEEPA has only been used for sanctions,” Brightbill said. He added that companies or industry groups would be likely to seek an injunction but may face an uphill battle blocking the tariffs.
“Judges are not likely to second guess a president on what constitutes an emergency,” said William Reinsch, a trade expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, adding that the “emergency is whatever he says it is.”
NIXON’S TARIFFS
The closest parallel to Trump’s action was the late president Richard Nixon’s use of IEEPA’s predecessor law, the 1917 Trading With the Enemy Act, to impose a 10% across-the-board U.S. tariff in 1971 to stem rising imports amid a balance-of-payments crisis after pulling the dollar off the gold standard.
Courts upheld Nixon’s action, but Jennifer Hillman, a trade law professor at Georgetown University and former World Trade Organization appellate judge, said Trump’s action may not fit the emergency. The Nixon ruling and reporting requirement language in the IEEPA statute suggests that there needs to be a causal connection between the emergency – fentanyl and migrants – and the remedy: universal tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China.
“At least for me, I don’t think there is such a connection in this case,” Hillman said. “The tariffs would not be applied only to fentanyl, so there is not a clear reason why tariffs on all goods are ‘necessary’ to deal with a problem of fentanyl or migrants.”
Nixon’s use had a much clearer connection between the level of imports and the value of the dollar, she added.
Trump threatened to use IEEPA in 2019 to back 5% tariffs on Mexican goods over border migration issues, but never declared an emergency after Mexico agreed to step up border security. Trump also invoked the National Emergencies Act to use federal funds to pay for construction of a wall on the southern border in his first term.
If courts allow the use of IEEPA for tariffs to stand, Congress should reform IEEPA to require greater oversight, said Peter Harrell, a national security lawyer and senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security.
“At the very least, however, courts should find that allowing Trump to wave his magic Sharpie to sign an IEEPA executive order imposing tariffs would upset the balance Congress has long sought to strike when it delegates its tariff authority to the president,” he said in a note on Friday.
U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a Democrat, last month introduced legislation to restrict IEEPA’s use for tariffs, arguing it was never designed or intended for such tariffs.
“Virginians want lower prices, not higher ones and the last thing we need is new, senseless taxes on imports from America’s three largest trading partners,” Kaine said on Saturday.
Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister designate, Kofi Iddie Adams, has vowed to spearhead a transformative era in the country’s sports sector, promising dynamic leadership to revive Ghanaian sports and restore its past glory.
With a keen focus on grassroots development, Mr Adams outlined an ambitious strategy to reinvigorate interest in inter-college competitions and elevate the Ghana Premier League to new heights.
His overarching vision is to invest significantly in various sporting disciplines and “work hard to restore Ghana to its glory days.”
Speaking before the Appointments Committee of Parliament last Thursday, the MP for Buem Constituency in the Oti Region reaffirmed his extensive understanding of sports.
He assured Ghanaians, President John Dramani Mahama and himself that he would not disappoint, pledging to implement concrete measures that will set Ghanaian sports on a path to sustainable success.
Player welfare, financial stability
At the core of Mr Adams’ plan is the welfare of local players.
He intends to improve player remuneration to reduce the mass exodus of talent abroad and collaborate with active athletes to establish a pension scheme for retired players, ensuring financial security for sportsmen and women beyond their playing days.
Acknowledging the significant financial constraints on the sector, with Ghanaian sports reportedly burdened by a $450 million debt, the minister designate promised to prioritise securing sustainable funding.
“I will focus my efforts on resource mobilisation, ensuring that the available funds are equitably distributed so that no one is left behind,” he asserted.
A key highlight of Mr Adams’ vision is the transformation of the Winneba Sports College into a full-fledged university.
This initiative aims to bolster the capacity of Ghanaian technical personnel, equipping them with the confidence and expertise to handle major sporting assignments both locally and internationally.
In addition, Mr Adams aims to introduce scholarship programmes for young athletes who wish to balance their academic and sporting aspirations, paving the way for a new generation of well-rounded sports professionals.
Infrastructure overhaul
To ensure a lasting impact, Mr Adams has pledged to instil a strong maintenance culture within Ghanaian sports, preventing the deterioration of key sporting facilities.
“Our infrastructure must be preserved and improved so that future generations can benefit,” he stated emphatically.
With a bold leadership approach and a clear vision for transformation, Mr Adams appeared determined to turn the tide for Ghanaian sports.
His ability to execute these plans effectively will be crucial in setting the nation’s sporting landscape on a path to renewed success.
1. Bold commitment to deliver
Kofi Adams dismissed concerns about his lack of recognition in sports circles, asserting his readiness to take on the role.
He assured Ghanaians of his commitment to success, stating “I will not disappoint Ghanaians and I will not disappoint President John Mahama.
I will deliver and I won’t also disappoint myself.”
His appointment comes at a challenging time for Ghanaian sports, with the national football team, the Black Stars, struggling on the international stage after consecutive group-stage exits at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and missing qualification for the 2025 edition.
2. Restructuring National Sports Authority
Adams pledged to redefine the role of the National Sports Authority (NSA) to ensure its effective operation as an intermediary between the ministry and various sports federations.
Highlighting its current limitations, he stated, “The challenge we have is the NSA which is the bridge.
Sometimes, it’s not allowed to interface and deal with the GFA (Ghana Football Association), especially when it comes to Black Stars funding.
We intend to make sure to re-strategise so that the NSA plays the role it is supposed to play.”
3. Stipends for players
The minister designate revealed that discussions are underway to introduce financial support for players in the Ghana Premier League, addressing the issue of low wages that drive talents abroad.
He stated, “We talked about giving them allowances so we can retain a number of our players. Some of them leave the shores of this country to play in war-torn countries just because their earnings are so low.
The whole idea is to retain players by giving them stipends.
We think it will go a long way to improving the league.”
4. ‘Reverse Pyramid’ approach to athlete development
Kofi Adams proposed a “reverse pyramid” strategy to enhance grassroots sports development, advocating a strong foundation at the school level.
“We will improve grassroots sports and we are going to go back to the inter-college days because you need to catch them and train them from that point.
You don’t let them mature to a certain stage before you start investing in them.”
Ghanaian women’s fashion is a vibrant celebration of culture, tradition, and modernity. Rooted in African clothing styles, the fashion scene in Ghana reflects a beautiful fusion of bold prints, intricate designs, and contemporary trends. The distinctiveness of Ghanaian women’s fashion lies in the rich use of fabric, patterns, and the variety of styles that showcase the country’s diverse heritage.
One of the most popular fabrics in Ghana is Ankara, a brightly colored, wax-printed fabric that has become synonymous with African fashion. Ankara is used in a wide range of garments, from dresses and skirts to blouses and trousers. The unique and bold patterns reflect different aspects of life, such as nature, history, and personal identity. In Ghana, women wear Ankara for a variety of occasions, including daily wear, work, church services, and traditional ceremonies like weddings and festivals.
Another significant fabric in Ghanaian women’s fashion is Kente, a handwoven silk cloth with intricate patterns that hold cultural meaning. Kente is often worn during special occasions like weddings, religious ceremonies, and significant celebrations. The vibrant colors and patterns represent various symbols, such as unity, strength, and wisdom. Kente remains one of the most iconic traditional garments for Ghanaian women and is worn with great pride.
Modern Ghanaian fashion has also embraced a blend of Western and African influences. Young women often experiment with mixing Ankara and Kente with contemporary cuts and styles, creating fusion outfits. These may include off-shoulder tops, high-waisted skirts, or tailored suits, all while maintaining a deep connection to their roots. Designers in Ghana are increasingly incorporating innovative designs that appeal to both local and global markets.
The growing popularity of fashion events like Accra Fashion Week has also boosted the visibility of Ghanaian women’s fashion, allowing local designers to showcase their creativity on international platforms. Today, women in Ghana are not only fashion-forward but also serve as ambassadors of African culture, blending heritage with modern flair. African clothing styles, especially in Ghana, are more than just a trend—they are a powerful expression of identity, pride, and artistry.

Additional information regarding the nighttime attack on the former Director of Operations at Jubilee House, Lord Commey’s residence in Dansoman, has been made public by Adomonline.com. Men in both civilian and military clothes claimed to have been given orders to haul Mr. Commey’s cars to Blue Gate, a National Security facility, during the attack that took place on the evening of January 31, 2025. Our sources within Mr. Commey’s house claim that the men called for the removal of six cars, all of which belonged to Mr. Commey. Mr. Commey’s own Range Rover and his wife’s Maserati were the automobiles in question. The other four were Chinese pickups that were parked in a different building across from Mr. Commey’s primary residence and belonged to his private company.
Our source said that after being attacked, Mr. Commey’s private security and other residents of his home were compelled to give in to their demands in order to get entrance to his facility. According to our source, Mr. Commey was brought in since the turmoil had drawn a lot of neighborhood bystanders, even though he was not there when the attack occurred. However, our source claimed that a composed Mr. Commey requested that the automobile not be towed upon his arrival and instead offered to give the men the keys to the cars so they could drive them away securely without causing any damage to any of them. Our source claims that even the presence of police officers dispatched to the scene was insufficient to halt

Founder and leader of Pottersville Church International, Ambassador Bishop Sam Owusu
Founder and leader of Pottersville Church International, Ambassador Bishop Sam Owusu, has made a bold prophecy, claiming that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is spiritually destined to become Ghana’s president in the future.
In a social media video that has gone viral, the renowned preacher stated that God had shown him the numerous battles Asiedu Nketiah had fought for the NDC, which, according to him, makes Nketiah the next presidential candidate spiritually.
“The sitting president should be careful and not live the life the other people lived. He should never forget those who stood for him, including leaders.
“When you look at the current government right now and look into the spiritual account, there is one who made Mahama become a flagbearer… it is one man who made sure power will be given to him. He decided to make him lead, and that is the chairman of their party.”
Bishop Owusu further revealed that he had already foreseen this in a prophecy he made months ago, adding, “In November or October, I prophesied.
“I saw that when Mahama left, I saw in the realms that he would be the next flagbearer of their party. I saw the mantle with him.
“If John Dramani Mahama understands gratitude, honour, and loyalty, he must make sure the chairman, who has used all his life to sacrifice for the party, is given the mantle decided in heaven.”
He continued, “I prophesied. Last year, I saw that Asiedu Nketiah will one day become president. The Lord told me to look at his hands and the battles he has fought. I said, wow! The video is there.
“If we are not careful, they will sabotage and forget him, and it might affect the party. The NDC party will start breaking just like the NPP.”
Nonetheless, Bishop Owusu’s prophecy has since generated widespread debate, and Asiedu Nketiah, a veteran politician and former General Secretary of the NDC, has yet to respond to the prophecy.

Chaos erupted in Ghana’s parliament late on Thursday night as lawmakers engaged in pushing, shoving, and destroying furniture during a heated vetting session for ministerial appointments.
Police were called in after lawmakers damaged tables and microphones amid mounting tensions. The vetting committee had been deeply divided, with some accusing opposition lawmakers of deliberately prolonging the process to settle political scores.
On Friday morning, the committee’s chairman apologised to the Ghanaian public, calling the incident “totally unacceptable.”
The session had been convened to vet three ministerial nominees from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), following the party’s victory over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in December’s elections. However, tensions escalated when NDC lawmakers accused NPP parliamentary leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of excessively grilling communications minister-designate Samuel Nartey George.
The vetting of George alone lasted over five hours, leading many NDC members to believe it was an act of retaliation. They alleged that opposition lawmakers sought to pressure George into retracting past criticisms of former President Nana Akufo-Addo and ex-Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia, both of the NPP.
As frustrations boiled over, committee members began shouting, pushing one another, and overturning tables. The session was ultimately adjourned until Friday.
Defending the scrutiny, Afenyo-Markin insisted parliamentary customs permitted thorough questioning of nominees “without limit.” He accused the NDC of attempting to disrupt the vetting process.
The adjourned session is expected to resume amid heightened political tensions.
Bright Kwabena Sikanku, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman for Asuogyaman in the Eastern region and a nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE), has denied allegations that he presented falsified academic qualifications in his application.
In a press release issued on January 31, 2025, Sikanku clarified that the confusion stemmed from an error made by an assistant who helped fill out his application forms.
He maintained that he had presented a Diploma in Business Studies (Purchasing, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management option) from the London International Organization for Capacity Building, an affiliate of Accra Business School, which remains verifiable.
He further emphasized that he never presented any certificate from Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) to the party or vetting committee and criticized the petitioners for misrepresenting a clerical mistake as falsification.
“All the original certificates I presented, as required by the party, are in the custody of the appointing authorities at both the regional and national levels of our party, and I have confidence in the mechanisms by which they verify the qualification of anyone,” part of the statement said.
His denial comes in response to a petition submitted on January 29, 2025, by a group of concerned NDC members in the constituency.
The petition called for the withdrawal of Sikanku’s nomination, alleging that he falsely claimed to have obtained a Diploma in Purchasing, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management from GCTU.
According to the petitioners, an investigation revealed that Sikanku had never attended GCTU, with the university formally confirming that no such qualification was awarded to him.
The group, led by convener Anthony Kwabena Sah, asserts that this alleged falsification raises serious concerns about Sikanku’s integrity and suitability for public office.
“For a position of such responsibility, we expect someone who embodies the values of honesty, accountability, and ethical leadership qualities that Mr. Sikanku’s actions appear to contradict,” Sah stated.
Additionally, the petition references an earlier complaint accusing Sikanku of the unaccounted sale of two Mahindra pickups, which were party assets. Petitioners, including Akrofi Joseph, argue that these actions raise concerns about his ability to manage public resources effectively.
Sikanku called on the public to disregard what he described as unfounded allegations aimed at defaming his character and causing disaffection against him.

AKWAMU – POWMU
ASUOGYAMAN
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
31ST January 2025.
RESPONSE TO THE ALLEGATION OF FALSE EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
My attention has been drawn to a publication on Ghanaweb, an online publication platform, to the effect that, an NDC group from Asuogyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region has petitioned my political party alleging that, I, Bright Sikanku presented a falsified certificate in my application for the District Chief Executive (DCE).
I would wish to directly and unequivocally address the allegations by first of all, completely denying this allegation of falsification of educational qualification.
I state categorically that, all certificates I presented in my application to be considered for the position of the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman are authentic and verifiable from the institutions.
The confusion appears to have come from an error made by the person who assisted me in filling out the application forms.
For the records, I presented a certificate of Diploma in Business Studies (Purchasing, Logistics and Supply Chain Management option), awarded to me in 2014 by London International Organization for Capacity Building, an affiliate of Accra Business School.
It was this information that my assistant quoted wrongly, which was a mistake and not intended to mislead or falsify any information, as the petitioners wants to portray. Anyone who wish to, can verify this information from Accra Business School.
In fact, I did not present any certificate to my party or the vetting committee, to the effect that, I attended Ghana Communication Technology University and wonder how a simple mistake on a filled CV would be concluded by anyone to have amounted to falsification.
All the original certificates I presented, as required by the party, are in the custody of the appointing authorities at both the regional and national levels of our party, and I have confidence in the mechanisms by which they verify the qualification of anyone.
I therefore call on the public and all interested parties to disregard all these unfounded allegations aimed at defaming my character and causing disaffection for me. I remain firmly focused and ready to serve the NDC, Asuogyaman and Ghana with honesty, dedication, and transparency at all times.
Eye Zu! Eye Za!
Thank You.
signed
Bright Kwabena Sikanku
(Constituency Chairman, Asuogyaman)

John Boadu, the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pointed fingers at internal party dynamics as the main cause of the party’s disastrous performance in the December 2024 general elections. In an exclusive interview with PeaceFM this morning, Boadu emphasized the party’s decision to allow government appointees to contest incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) in constituency-level primaries as a significant factor in the loss.
Boadu argued that this internal contest created unnecessary divisions within the party and weakened its cohesion. He stressed that the decision, which led to government appointees running against sitting MPs, sowed discord at the grassroots level, diminishing the party’s chances of maintaining its electoral foothold.
The former NPP General Secretary, who has long been involved in the party’s internal workings, suggested that the NPP’s failure to manage these internal conflicts not only undermined its unity but also reduced its ability to mobilize supporters effectively. Boadu’s comments come at a time when the party is grappling with the fallout from its poor performance in the elections, which resulted in significant losses across the country.
In the interview, Boadu explained that while competition is healthy within a democratic political party, the internal rivalry sparked by the contest between government appointees and sitting MPs proved to be damaging. He indicated that the party leadership failed to recognize the potential fallout from such a decision, which ultimately contributed to the voters’ decision to turn their backs on the party during the polls.
The NPP, which has dominated Ghanaian politics in recent years, now faces a crucial period of self-reflection and rebuilding. The focus will likely be on reuniting the party’s factions and addressing the internal divisions that have emerged. For many observers, Boadu’s statement signals a shift toward acknowledging the internal challenges that have plagued the party’s operations and may serve as a turning point in the party’s recovery efforts.
As the NPP moves forward, it will need to reassess its strategies for internal governance, party unity, and candidate selection to ensure a stronger performance in future elections. Boadu’s candid remarks may catalyze such reforms, as the party seeks to reassert itself in the political landscape and regain the trust of the electorate.
The relationship between democracy and development continues to spark debate, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where democratic nations struggle with economic hardship, rising debt, and negative credit ratings.
Despite decades of democratic rule, many African countries remain trapped in poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits, while non-democratic states such as China, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore experience rapid economic growth, food security, and lower unemployment.
This raises critical questions about whether democracy itself is failing or if the real issue lies with leadership, governance structures, and foreign influences that shape economic policies on the continent.
Democracy does not function the same way in every country. While Western nations often present democracy as a one-size-fits-all solution, the reality is that its effectiveness depends on historical, cultural, and institutional contexts.
African democracies, including Ghana’s, have largely inherited Western governance models that sometimes clash with local socio-political realities.
Many of these systems prioritize electoral cycles over long-term development planning, creating instability as new governments abandon the policies of their predecessors.
The constant political competition often results in populist decision-making rather than policies focused on economic transformation. Meanwhile, authoritarian or semi-democratic states are able to maintain consistent policies that drive industrialization and infrastructure development without the interruptions of electoral politics.
Foreign influence plays a crucial role in shaping Africa’s democracies, often dictating economic solutions that fail to align with local needs.
International financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank prescribe policies that, while well-intended, frequently result in structural adjustment programs that weaken national economies.
Conditionalities attached to loans often restrict governments from implementing independent economic policies, forcing them into cycles of borrowing that increase debt burdens rather than fostering sustainable growth.
In contrast, non-democratic states have the flexibility to implement economic policies without foreign interference, allowing them to pursue national development goals on their own terms.
Development aid, long seen as a pillar of economic support for Africa, also remains a contentious issue. While foreign aid provides immediate relief for struggling economies, it has also created long-term dependency that limits Africa’s ability to achieve economic sovereignty.
The recent decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose a 90-day halt on most U.S. foreign aid has led to widespread staff layoffs and program shutdowns globally.
This move has disrupted numerous international humanitarian and development programs, including critical health initiatives like PEPFAR, which provides HIV treatment to millions in Africa.
Some view the reduction of aid as a threat, arguing that it deprives vulnerable economies of much-needed financial resources.
Others see it as a wake-up call, an opportunity for Africa to break free from neo-colonial economic structures and chart a path toward true economic independence.
For Ghana and other African nations, the challenge is not just about whether democracy works, but how it can be adapted to ensure economic prosperity.
Strengthening institutions, reducing corruption, and prioritizing national interests over external pressures are critical steps in making democracy work for development.
While foreign aid and international economic partnerships will always play a role, Africa must redefine these relationships on equal terms rather than remaining in a cycle of dependency.
The resurgence of military-led governments in countries like Burkina Faso and Mali signals growing dissatisfaction with the status quo, but the real question is whether democracy, as currently practiced in Africa, can evolve to meet the demands of economic transformation and self-reliance.

Prophet Eric Boahen-Uche, founder of Reign House Chapel International
Barely two months into the year 2025, the world has witnessed a series of devastating plane crashes, resulting in the loss of dozens of lives.
These tragic incidents come after Prophet Eric Boahen-Uche, founder of Reign House Chapel International, prophesied on December 31, 2024, that multiple crashes would occur in the new year.
During his prophecy session, Prophet Boahen-Uche warned of an increase in plane crashes and urged his church members and travelers to engage in intense prayers for protection.
“2025, I see a lot of plane crashes. So, if you are going to board a plane, soak yourself in the blood of Jesus,” the prophet declared.
He further cautioned that all travelers should seek divine protection to avert impending dangers.

Ghana has consistently prioritised science and mathematics education since independence, laying the foundation for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning.
Recognising the crucial role of STEM education in equipping students with problem-solving and innovation skills, and preparing them for careers rather than just university, there has been a concerted effort in recent years to actively promote and implement comprehensive STEM programmes within the Ghanaian education system.
Equally important is the growing recognition of the arts within the STEM model, highlighting the significance of creativity and design thinking in the scientific and technological fields. This has led to the emergence of STEAM education as a more holistic approach to learning.
The Ghanaian government’s commitment to strengthening STEAM education has been widely welcomed and supported by various stakeholders, including non-profit organisations dedicated to improving educational outcomes.
Among the leading initiatives is the Yamoransa Model Labs Programme, established by the social development non-profit organisation IMPLEMENTERS in collaboration with the Helping Africa Foundation.
Since 2016, the programme has been instrumental in setting up ICT centres and delivering critical STEAM skills to over 100,000 students across 13 completed labs in Ghana.
With a mission to establish STEAM facilities in all 16 regions of Ghana and beyond, the initiative continues to make a significant impact.
As February 11 marks the International Day of Women and Girls in STEM, Ghana celebrates its progress in STEAM education while acknowledging ongoing challenges. A key highlight of this celebration is the Annual Impact Roundtable Discussion (AIRTAD) & Robotics Competition 2025, which showcases the continuous impact of the Yamoransa Model Labs Programme.
AIRTAD serves as a flagship platform to assess the successes of the Yamoransa Model Labs while celebrating the creativity and innovations of young minds in STEAM.
Building on the success of previous editions, AIRTAD 2025 promises engaging discussions, impactful collaborations, and an exciting robotics competition.
The event is scheduled for 25th–26th February 2025 at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day.

ABUJA – Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma were among the dignitaries who attended the 25th wedding anniversary of Pastors Biodun and Modele Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).
The event, held in Abuja, also celebrated Biodun Fatoyinbo’s 50th birthday, attracting prominent political figures, religious leaders, and legal luminaries.
Notable attendees included Anyim Pius Anyim, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Ibe Kachikwu, former Minister of State for Petroleum; and Stanley Ifeanyi Uzochukwu, Chairman of Stanel Group.
Religious leaders present at the celebration included Pastor Mary Abioye (formerly of Living Faith Church), Archbishop JohnPraise Daniel, and Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International.
The celebration featured speeches from notable personalities, including Obasanjo, who humorously referred to Anyim as his “boss,” acknowledging the influence the Senate had during his tenure.
He remarked, “During the times I was in government, he served as the Senate President. If I sent a bill to the National Assembly, unless it had the support of the Senate President, my bill might not be passed. So I had to regard him as my elder to ensure my bill could be passed. Hence, I now refer to him as my boss.”
Addressing the couple, the former president said: “You have now set a new standard regarding Jubilee. Twenty-five years in Jubilee, as mentioned in the Bible. So, every Jubilee, every 25 years, you must renew your power and purpose in your marriage. If I had my way, then every marriage in Nigeria that has reached 25 years should have what we call new vows and a renewed purpose.
“Now, as for the next event, 25 years from now, I wish you well in advance. As you know, I may not be able to attend—not because I am unwell, but simply because I will be elsewhere permanently.”
Representing former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim extended his congratulations to the couple.
He stated, “If former President Goodluck Jonathan were here physically, I believe he would say that President Olusegun Obasanjo will speak for the former presidents. On behalf of former President Goodluck Jonathan, I am humbled to congratulate you and your wife, and indeed your entire family, on this milestone.”
Legal expert Mike Ozekhome praised the couple’s dedication to faith, while senior lawyer Alex Izinyon commended their positive impact on society.
“You have touched lives; your family has made a significant impact over the past 25 years. Keep on doing what you are doing. Do not grow weary in doing good. I pray that you and your family will continue to flourish from glory to glory,” Izinyon said.
Renowned clergy such as Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo and Pastor Paul Enenche also spoke, offering prayers and blessings for the couple.
Ashimolowo advised, “You must always remember that this woman stands by your side, not at your feet. You have responsibilities in this union; you have a spiritual obligation. I want you to wear this ring as your helmet. It must never signify dominance but always serve as a reminder of faith and love—a love that never fails and is never puffed up.”
The ceremony incorporated various traditional and religious elements, including the renewal of marriage vows, the exchange of rings symbolising eternal love, and prayers for continued unity.
The couple reaffirmed their commitment to each other, with Biodun Fatoyinbo emphasising the spiritual significance of their union and Modele Fatoyinbo pledging lifelong devotion.
“According to the word of God, I submit myself to you as your wife continually, from this moment onward. We shall continue to be one,” Mrs. Fatoyinbo declared.
The event also highlighted the importance of milestone celebrations, with Obasanjo humorously suggesting that marriages in Nigeria reaching 25 years should mark the occasion with renewed vows and purpose.
The presence of two former presidents elevated the gathering to an international status, underscoring the couple’s influence beyond Nigeria.
With music from renowned gospel artists such as Mercy Chinwo and Chris Morgan, alongside prayers and a grand atmosphere, the ceremony exemplified love, faith, and enduring commitment, leaving guests inspired and uplifted.

Director of the Ghana School of Law, Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong.
The Ghana School of Law has been allocated 1.1 acres of land by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to develop its permanent residence in Kumasi.
The allocation marks a significant milestone in transforming the School’s landscape, by positioning the permanent campus near the court complex in the central business district of Kumasi.
The strategic location aligns with the School’s policy of placing their campuses near judicial centres to enhance accessibility and practical training for law students.
This allocation will see the School move from being a tenant at KNUST to having its own dedicated learning space.
Director of the Ghana School of Law, Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, expressed the School’s gratitude to Otumfuo for the gesture.
“Only last week I was called to receive a document covering 1.1 acres of land donated to us by Otumfuo, and it’s in a prime area in Kumasi, just a walking distance from the court complex, which fits into the policy of the school to locate campuses near major courts.
“At the appropriate time, we will send a delegation to show appreciation to Otumfuo, for making it possible for our Kumasi campus to have a permanent place of study, a campus outside of Accra and we cease to be tenants of KNUST,” he said.
Justice Oppong was speaking at the induction of 222 law students admitted for the 2024/2025 academic year for the professional law course at the Ghana School of Law.
This is the formal process of students going through matriculation having fulfilled certain requirements and passing the entrance exams which had about 5,000 students taking part.
The Inductees add to over 1,400 newly admitted Professional Law Course students at the Ghana School of Law.
The newly admitted students were admonished to adhere to the institution’s rules and excel in their examinations to progress to the next stage.
The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr Chris Adomako Kwakye, urged the students to uphold ethical conduct.
“Ethics is virtual in advancing legal education and practice. Lawyers are members of a community of clients, colleagues, opponents, judicial officers and the public. The legal profession’s ethics are principles of conduct that members are expected to observe in their practice. To enforce this conduct, we have rules along with the profession’s ethical standards which are still in force,” he said.
President of the Ashanti region Bar Association, Kwame Owusu Sekyere, advised students to make a distinction.
“The training has just begun, and all authorities are particular about your conduct, and the way you handle yourself. That’s the life you are going to live outside. There will and there should be some distinguishing. Because you are a lawyer, you hold credible essence to conversations, issues and environment,” he said.

President John Dramani Mahama has urged African governments to be committed to partnering with the private sector to help drive industrialisation.
President John Mahama who made the call at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 in Accra said the industrialisation drive could be achieved by governments through special economic zones that encourage manufacturing and innovation.
He said such partnerships would not only help provide access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises which are the backbone of economies but also provide investments in technical and vocational education to equip the youth with the skills needed for industries for the future.
He said, “We must invest in infrastructure to facilitate trade, efficient roads, rail networks, ports, and digital connectivity.
“We must strengthen African supply chains to ensure that our industries produce goods and services that meet both regional and global standards,” he said.
The President also highlighted the need for African countries to harmonize their trade policies to eliminate non-tariff barriers and reduce the cost of doing business across borders while working swiftly to operationalise the Pan-African payment and settlement system to facilitate the payment of goods and services across the continent.
According to the President, a commitment to these actions would help unlock a $3.4 trillion market, that will help create jobs and prosperity for millions of Africans across the continent.
“We must move beyond being exporters of raw material to become producers of finished goods, whether it is cocoa in Ghana, oil in Nigeria, puppies in Zambia, or diamonds in Botswana, we must process and add value to our natural resources,” he stated.
The President explained that by partnering with the private sector, African economies will not only increase their share of global trade but also create sustainable jobs for people, especially young people.
He also called on African leaders to indigenize ownership of their natural resources with the availability of capital and technology to increase participation in the exploitation of their natural resources.
Contrary to earlier claims that 6,200 Ghanaians will be deported from the United States, Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that only 156 Ghanaians are currently facing deportation.
Ablakwa provided this clarification during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, citing official information from US officials.
Ghana defender, Tariq Lamptey, has emerged as a transfer target for Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam just days before the January transfer window closes.
The 24-year-old has scored five times in 114 appearances for Brighton since joining from Chelsea in 2020.
The wing-back has six months remaining on his current contract, allowing him to negotiate with other clubs before the summer window opens.
Although Lamptey has put in a solid performance this season, he hasn’t been a regular starter for manager Fabian Hurzeler’s squad, prompting him to explore other opportunities.
According to reports from the Daily mail, Ajax are prepared to submit a £1.5 million offer for the Ghana international.
In the meantime, Lamptey played the full match at the City Ground on Saturday, as Brighton suffered a crushing 7-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Manager Hurzeler positioned the Black Stars wing-back as a left-back.

The Minister of Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, says Ghana is committed to leading Africa’s energy transition aimed at advancing sustainable development in the sub-region.
Mr. Jinapor speaking at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 in Accra said Ghana is embarking on a progressive path towards ensuring that the country achieves renewable and sustainable energy for all countries in the sub-region.
“We are going to prioritize renewable energy as part of our energy transition by focusing on solar, wind, mini-hydro, waste-to-energy, and other renewable sources for the continent and Ghana in particular to meet its energy needs and requirements”.
The Minister said Ghana’s energy policy seeks to achieve an optimal energy mix that addresses both immediate and future needs with plans to accelerate renewable energy consumption.
That he explained would be achieved both on and off the grid, as well as promoting energy efficiency to reduce wastage and ensure that Ghana achieves overall benefits from the energy that it produces and consumes.
Mr. Jinapor also emphasised that given the requirement for a successful energy transition which particularly hinges on the availability of skilled labour and expertise, Ghana is prioritising the development of its human resources through targeted training and providing the needed education to be able to achieve the objective of achieving the energy transition without serious challenges and risks.
He said access to capital remained one of the most significant obstacles to energy development across Africa.
The Minister stated that Ghana is therefore working towards prioritising self-funding, private sector involvement, and tapping into other green bonds and regional tech initiatives to address the challenge.
He also reiterated President Mahama’s commitment to establish a renewable energy investment and green transition fund at the just-ended Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania.
Mr. Jinapor said the fund, when established, will help mobilize domestic as well as international resources to pursue an aggressive agenda towards investment in renewable energies, particularly the upgrade of renewable energy.
“We seek to aggressively invest in home solar systems, wind, renewable streetlights, solar lamps, and clean cooking technologies to attain our vision towards ensuring that we promote renewable energy consumption in Ghana” he added.
He further stressed that while these strides were commendable, Africa’s energy future cannot be shaped by individual countries alone working in isolation but through collaboration.
“Energy is the lifeblood of Africa’s single markets, we need to collaborate and work together. Ghana believes in leveraging partnerships to tackle Africa’s fragmented energy landscape. We are determined to strengthen cross-border energy and infrastructure,” he added.
Accra, Jan 31, GNA – In a response to the altercations in Parliament on Thursday, Speaker Alban Bagbin has outlined a series of measures to address the immediate fallout and prevent future occurrences.
In his formal communication to Members of Parliament on Friday, the Speaker suspended four Members of Parliament (MPs) involved in the clashes for two weeks, effective January 31, 2025.
They are Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip, Mr Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Majority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Second Minority Whip, and Alhassan Sulemana Tampoli, NPP MP for Gushegu.
“These… people are suspended from Parliament for two weeks from today and barred from engaging in any parliamentary activity,” Speaker Bagbin said.
The Speaker’s decisive actions aimed to restore trust, ensure accountability, and maintain order in the legislative body.
He also directed the Clerk of Parliament to formally lodge a criminal complaint with the police, paving the way for a full investigation into the incident.
He said: “This move ensures that those found culpable will face legal consequences.”
To restore trust and ensure the Committee operates effectively and without bias, the Committee of Selection had been instructed to reconstitute the Appointments Committee.
According to the Speaker, the Clerk to Parliament would conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused to parliamentary property during the confrontations.
“MPs found responsible for the destruction will be surcharged to cover the costs of repairs or replacements,” the Speaker said.
Further, a seven-member committee, chaired by Mr Emmanuel Bedzrah, a National Democratic Congress MP for Ho West, has been established to investigate the incidents in detail.
The committee has a 10-day deadline to submit its findings and recommendations for further action.
Speaker Bagbin’s swift actions demonstrates his commitment to maintaining order and accountability in Parliament and ensure the smooth functioning of Ghana’s legislative bodyt
Confusion rocked the Parliament’s Appointments Committee sitting Thursday night, when members of the Minority and Majority caucuses clashed over the vetting of Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, minister-designate for health, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, designated for Foreign Affairs.
The disagreement began after 2200 hours when the vetting of the nominee for Transport, Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, had been concluded.
The Majority Caucus decided to vet two more ministerial nominees that night after having already vetted five others.
The Minority group on the Committee, however, proposed rescheduling the vetting to Friday, January 31, saying it was too late.
The Majority rejected that suggestion, insisting that the vetting should continue as scheduled.
It accused the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, (Ranking Member on the Committee), of spending more time on nominees, hence the delay.
The situation escalated into chaos, disrupting the session as tables were broken and microphones destroyed in a tussle between some committee members.
In response, the Majority Leader, Mr Mahama Ayariga, intervened and apologised for the unfortunate incident, suspending the vetting and rescheduling it to Friday, January 31.
“Let us not destroy the enviable image that Ghana has carved for itself in terms of our democracy,” he said.
The clash between the two causes brought the Committee’s work to a standstill, with both sides refusing to back down from their positions.
The incident had raised concerns over the integrity of the vetting process and the ability of Parliament to conduct its business in a peaceful and orderly manner.
Meanwhile, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the Minority would not be bullied into submission and prevented from asking the necessary questions during vetting.
It was, as expected. So, I said before the game that after our home game when we were 3-0 up at half-time, the way they came at us in the second half, I already knew what a great mentality this team has and quality as well. From that moment onwards they’ve done so well in the league. They’ve picked up points against so many good teams, not by luck, but because they’re intense. They have quality and that’s why we knew it was always going to be very hard and if you want to win here maybe you need a bit of luck as well because the margins are so small. Our penalty was just not offside and their goal to make it 1-1 was just offside. They hit the post twice, we had our chances as well, but it was a close call for us to win this game.
On how pleased he was with his players standing up to the physical nature of the game…
That’s true. Only a few of them have been as tough like this and that’s what I told them before. In all the data when it comes to running they are so high up on the list, so we knew that if we would’ve had any chance of a result over here we at least had to compete with them in terms of running, fighting, playing the duels and all these things. I think that’s what the players did and having Mo Salah definitely helps in a game like this.
On Alisson Becker’s performance…
Like I said, if you want to win here against a team that is so competitive then you need a team performance and work-rate. That’s what we have and you need some quality individuals that make the difference for you and that goal of Mo was absolute quality and the saves Alisson made as well. But it was not only them, the way our centre-backs were defending again today was also impressive.
So, team performance and work-rate was incredible. It’s the only way to have a chance for a result and then you need good individual performances and positive margins. Like I just explained with both offsides that were in our favour.
On whether it was a vital victory in the context of a Premier League title race…
Almost every game feels like this for me. We’ve had so many of our games until the end exciting and there were a few moments already this season where it felt that we’re just not on the right side. All the points we’ve got until now I think we deserved them. I have said many times already the Chelsea game, that’s under debate, and maybe this game we weren’t unlucky, let’s put it that way, but Fulham at home being 2-2 and getting chance after chance. [Manchester] United at home getting chance after chance at 2-2. [Nottingham] Forest ending as a draw with us getting chance after chance in the end of the game.
What I want from them and what they want from each other is that they fight in every single game from the first until the last second to get the maximum result and that’s what the fans expect from them playing for this club. That’s what we try to do in every single game and it’s also necessary if you want to have any chance of a result in this league.
