Goaso Traditional Council bans public Val’s Day celebrations

0

The Goaso Traditional Council has announced a ban on public Valentine’s Day celebrations within the Goaso traditional area as part of preparations for the one-week observance of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah.

The late chief, who reigned for 17 years, passed away in December 2024 after a prolonged illness. His death was officially announced by Otumfuo’s linguist, Kyeame Antwi Boasiako, during an Asanteman Council meeting on December 16, 2024.

In a statement addressing the public, the Council emphasized that Valentine’s Day festivities, including lodging in hotels, loud celebrations, and parties, are strictly prohibited.

“If you wish to celebrate Valentine’s Day, do it quietly in your room. No noisy celebrations, no Valentine parties. Anyone caught flouting these rules will face severe sanctions,” the Council warned.

The ban, according to the Council, is to ensure unity and respect as the community mourns the late chief.

“We are in mourning. A section of us cannot mourn while others make merry,” the spokesperson added.

The one-week observance of Nana Kwasi Bosomprah’s passing is expected to draw traditional leaders, dignitaries, and community members to honor his legacy and contributions to the Goaso Traditional Area.

Serve faithfully in your new roles – Dr Kisseih urges gov’t appointees

By Jesse Ampah Owusu

Gomoa Fetteh (C/R), Feb. 5, GNA – Bishop Dr Gordon Kisseih, the First Vice President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), has admonished elected leaders and government appointees to serve humbly and faithfully in their new roles.

He said as stewards of Ghana and its people, they should always put the interest of the country first in every decision or action they took.

Dr Kisseih made these remarks during the opening of GPCC’s 2025 Conference of Heads of Churches and Organisations at the Pentecost Convention Centre at Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region.

The two-day annual event is being held on the theme: “Shining as Stars in a Perverse World,” which brought together the membership of the Council to deliberate on issues of interest.

The conference is an avenue to take stock of activities of the Council, account to members, discuss and address its challenges.

Dr Kisseih urged the political leaders to inspire hope and courage in the citizens, serving as examples for others to follow in nation building.

He advised political party supporters and activists to employ peaceful means to register their grievances in their expectations in-terms of appointments and rewards after the elections.

“Peace must be continual. It should be continuous. So we want to encourage every person to ensure that even if you have grievances, let’s use peaceful means of addressing those grievances,” he added.

Dr Kisseih called on all Ghanaians to play their respective roles in supporting the leadership in its bid to champion socioeconomic growth and development.

He urged Christians, in particular, to live as shining stars and lights of the world, saying: “As the theme suggests, your lives should portray righteous and responsible behaviour and conduct in society.”

“For Christians and believers, this is a call to rally all of us to shine as lights, to save our nation Ghana, to save our water bodies, to save our forest cover, to ensure that we get back what we all value as the values of our nation Ghana.”

Agbogbloshie land encroachment – Government to take definite action

0

The government has started the process for a decision on how to deal with encroachment activities on the 80-acre land that was reclaimed at the scrapyard and onion market at Agbogbloshie in the Greater Accra Region.

A report has been presented to the Office of the President on the issue, and discussions are ongoing on the way forward.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, who made this known to the Daily Graphic, said: “Last week, there was a stakeholder’s meeting between the President, John Dramani Mahama, and the leadership of Agbogbloshie. They are still in consultation, and whatever it is, we will update the public through the media.”

Ms Ocloo made this known after holding her first meeting with top officials of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) last Monday.

She stressed that the decision that would be taken on the land would be in the best interest of the country.

Context
The Agbogbloshie Scrapyard is located near the Abossey Okai Central Mosque, the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) along the Korle Bu Mortuary Road and straddles the Old Fadama stretch of the heavily polluted Odaw River.

The scrapyard had gained notoriety for the open burning of electronic waste, making it one of the world’s dirtiest e-waste sites.

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), with the support of armed police personnel, stormed the Agbogbloshie Scrapyard on July 1, 2021, and demolished structures that hosted about 10,000 scrap dealers.

The demolition exercise was part of the “Let’s Make Accra Work” initiative spearheaded by the former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey.

Armed with bulldozers, the team cleared all occupants of the 20-acre land and forcefully displaced the scrapyard workers. The demolition also affected the onion market in the same area.

The parcel of land was walled and 15 acres were earmarked for the construction of the Ablekuma Central Municipal Hospital under the Agenda 111 Hospitals project by the previous government.

Dramatic return
However, four years after the demolition exercise, the reclaimed land at the Agbogbloshie scrapyard is under siege as some of the dealers in scrap metal have staged a comeback.

The Daily Graphic reported in its Friday, January 24 edition that more than 100 wooden structures had sprung up on the land.

“Within two weeks, scores of scrap dealers had broken through the protective wall and started constructing wooden structures on the land with impunity,” the Daily Graphic reported.

A three-day surveillance by the Daily Graphic of the area revealed that various sections of the wall constructed around the parcel of land had been broken by the scrap dealers to enable them to gain access to put up their structures.

Concerns by residence
Meanwhile, some residents of the Old Fadama slum at Agbogbloshie are worried about the attempts by the scrap dealers to reoccupy the reclaimed lands.

Some of them told the Daily Graphic that the demolition of the scrapyard came as a huge relief to members of the public because the slum community was always inundated with air pollution from the activities of the scrap dealers.

“If the scrap dealers are allowed to return to their base, it means that the air pollution in this area will worsen.

We are already battling with polluted air as some of the scrap dealers are still with us and burning e-waste; if the others come back to join them at the scrapyard, we will die slowly,” Stephen Gyagri, a 41-year-old resident of Old Fadama, lamented.

Mr Gyagri said if the scrap metal dealers were allowed to take over the reclaimed land, it would send a negative signal that anyone could act with impunity in the name of politics and go free.

A teacher in one of the privately owned basic schools at the Old Fadama slum, who pleaded anonymity, said if the scrap dealers were allowed to come back to their base, it would increase truancy among the schoolchildren and worsen the spate of children engaged in hazardous work.

“When the scrapyard was very active, some of our pupils dodged school and went there to work under dangerous conditions.

After it was demolished, most of the children now stay in class; but if the business returns, the children will go back and ruin their lives,” the source said.

Prosecution To Recall Witness In Gyakye Quayson Trial

0

The Office of the Attorney General has been granted the opportunity to recall one of its witnesses in the trial of the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, who is accused of deceit of a public officer in the process of acquiring a Ghanaian passport.

The move is to allow the said witness to tender in the full complement of a document that he had previously tendered, with one page missing.

Justice Mary Yanzuh, the trial judge has also ordered the prosecution to follow its earlier order on them to furnish the MP with certain documents which his lawyer demanded.

Mr. Quayson has been charged with five counts of deceit of public officer, forgery of passport or travel certificate, knowingly making a false statutory statement, perjury, and false declaration of office.

The prosecution led by Esi Dentaa Yankah, a Principal State Attorney, moving the application, indicated that the witness in the course of his cross-examination notified the court of a page that was absent in an exhibit which he had tendered into evidence.

She said the witness sought to refer to that absent page but was unable to do so.

“The prosecution seeks for the witness to be recalled for the complete document to be placed before the court to enable the witness to refer to it as he sought to do in the course of his testimony,” she told the court.

Ms. Yankah also stated that the court is empowered to order the recall of a witness by section 79 of Act 30, which places that decision solely in the judge’s discretion.

“We pray that you exercise your discretion in our favour because without that the said exhibit in its current form is incomplete.

She added that the complete document will enable the trial court to do justice in the case rather than the court referring to an incomplete document, the construction of which might affect the trial judge’s ability to access the absent page or otherwise.

Tsatsu Tsikata, counsel for Mr. Quayson did not oppose the application but indicated that they had not seen the original of the document the prosecution is seeking to tender.

Justice Yanzuh granted the application and permitted the prosecution to call the witness to tender the complete document.

She also ordered the prosecution to have the original of the document to be tendered attached to the application as mandated by rules of court.

The case was adjourned to February 12, 2025, for the witness to be recalled, after which the prosecution may close its case.

Wall Erected Around Ruins of Akufo-Addo Statue Amid Controversy

0

Akufo-Addo Statue
Akufo-Addo Statue

A recently surfaced video on social media has revealed that a wall has been constructed around the remnants of the destroyed statue of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, sparking mixed reactions among locals and online commentators.

The statue, which was erected in honor of the president, was vandalized by unidentified individuals shortly after the inauguration of former President John Dramani Mahama. While the motives behind the destruction remain unclear, the new wall appears to be an attempt to safeguard what is left of the monument.

Residents in the area speculate that the wall was built to prevent further damage to the statue, though no individual or group has come forward to claim responsibility for its construction. The move has raised questions about whether the current government plans to restore the statue, but officials have yet to comment on the matter.

The statue has long been a source of controversy since its initial installation. Critics argue that its location on an unfinished, dusty road in the Western Region symbolizes unfulfilled promises made by President Akufo-Addo to the local community. Many residents viewed the statue as an unnecessary expenditure, particularly in an area lacking basic infrastructure and development.

The destruction of the statue and the subsequent construction of the wall have reignited debates about the role of public monuments in Ghanaian society. Some see the wall as a protective measure to preserve a symbol of leadership, while others view it as a futile attempt to mask deeper issues of governance and accountability.

As the story continues to unfold, the wall around the ruined statue stands as a stark reminder of the tensions between political symbolism and the pressing needs of the people. Whether the statue will be rebuilt or remain a relic of past controversies remains to be seen, but the conversation it has sparked underscores the complex relationship between leadership, public art, and community expectations.

Fonio crop introduced to farmers at Kong in Sissala East

0

By Mohammed Balu

Kong, (UWR), Feb. 05, GNA – The Rural Organisation of Women farmers and Agro processing Development (ROWFAD) Ghana, a non-governmental organization in Sissala East, has organized a field trip to introduce a new crop variety, fonio, to farmers.

That would allow them to learn about its cultivation.

Over 60 farmers selected from 10 communities attended the event, where they were educated on the Acres brand of Nano organic fertilizer.

This fertilizer is intended for mass spraying of crops to enhance nutrient content.

The event was on the theme: “Fostering Sustainable Agricultural and Food Security with Acres Nano Organic Fertilizer.”

Mr Yaana Yahaya, the Chief Executive Officer of ROWFAD, described fonio as the “Seed of Life,” known locally in Sissali as ‘Kankanlari.’

He explained that fonio originates from the Sahelian region and thrives in harsh soil conditions with minimal rainfall.

Mr Yahaya emphasized that fonio was a nutrient powerhouse, rich in amino acids and high in fiber, which could help combat various health issues.

It is also a quick-maturing crop, harvested within six to eight weeks, making it a reliable food source in challenging times. Additionally, fonio is one of the fastest-cooking grains in the world.

Mr Yahaya announced that ROWFAD plans to cultivate 10,000 fonio crops in Sissala East and Wa East to enhance nutrition and boost income for marginalized farmers, particularly women.

Mr Samuel Akuetteh, a Crops officer from the Department of Agriculture in Sissala East noted that, “It’s good that we have returned to what is important, as fonio is environmentally friendly. Our department will promote its production just as we have done with sesame.

We will recognize it as part of the district’s crop categories and provide awards to encourage farmers to produce it.”

He emphasized that fonio’s introduction was timely, as there was a growing global demand for organic products with low health risks.

Mr Samuel Awiah, the Manager of Acres International Africa explained that “Acres organic fertilizer is 100 per cent organic. It restores the soil, aiming to bring our land back to the state it was in during our grandparents’ time. We urge farmers to use it alongside inorganic fertilizers.”

He said the organic fertilizer had been certified by the University of Ghana.

Mr Awiah added that, “It is designed to benefit our communities and increase farmers’ income as compared to inorganic fertilizer. It is far superior and more cost-effective.” Acres International Africa operates in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and other African countries.

Mr Musah Baduawie, chairman of the Kong Garden Association (KONSIFA), requested a wire mesh to prevent animals from entering their garden, where they cultivate vegetables and other crops.

Mr Biyirah Bapoh Abdullah, secretary of KONSIFA, encouraged participation in dry season gardening as an alternative source of income.

He also urged everyone to cultivate the new fonio crop on their farms to combat environmental degradation.

Most of our leaders don’t understand how relevant the creative arts sector is – Kwaku Manu

0

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has stated that some leaders in the country have failed to recognise the positive economic impact the creative arts industry has on Ghana’s economy.

He made this statement while expressing disappointment in the lack of infrastructure within the country’s creative arts industry, adding that there is a need to liaise with the private sector to bring such projects to fruition.

“We have leaders in this country who do not understand the importance of the creative arts industry. There have been ministers who come and go, yet we continue to wait for the government to take the initiative. Meanwhile, we have investors who are eager to invest in such projects,” he added.

Kwaku Manu further explained that if the government gives more attention to the creative arts sector, it could generate huge revenue for the country.

“The same creative arts that are not given the recognition they deserve attracted many people to the country through the Year of Return policy. If we also focus on our tourist sites, it will draw tourists and generate revenue for the country. But, the leaders have neglected all of this,” he stated.

He added, “A white man usually sell ideologies through movies and social media, and you are aware of that.”

‘I’m tired!’ – Watch moment 2nd Dep Speaker of Parliament ‘gave up’ during frustrations by MPs

Andrew Asiamah Amoako is the Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah Amoako is the Second Deputy Speaker

It was a day marked by ‘commotion’ during the 11th Sitting of the 1st Meeting of the 1st Session of the 9th Parliament on February 4, 2025.

Members of Parliament gathered to discuss and debate key issues and deliberate on government business.

However, as parliamentary proceedings unfolded during this particular sitting, several matters came up for discussion.

Notable among them were the approvals of the final batch of ministerial nominees, the commemoration of the late JB Danquah, and other relevant topics.

At a point, the Member of Parliament of Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, took the floor to speak and make his submission. However, the disturbances in the House made it difficult for him to be heard by the Speaker.

Despite repeated calls for order from the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, who presided over the session, the disruptions continued, with lawmakers disregarding his efforts to maintain decorum.

Frustrated that his attempts to restore silence and order were fruitless, Andrew Asiamah Amoako frustratingly blurted out into his microphone “I’m tired,” in a moment where he might not have realised that his microphone was still on.

In that moment, and with pressure from Nitiwul, who was yet to be done with his submissions, could convince the speaker to allow him to grant him permission to continue.

Andrew Asiamah exclaimed, “Me ntie,” literally meaning “I won’t listen.”

“I’m tired, I’m tired,” he said, while making gestures with his hand to emphasise his frustration and to convey his message more clearly.

He added, “Honorable Nitiwul, I’m not going to take anymore. I’m tired.”

Amoako further cautioned the Majority caucus against using their microphones when they have nothing to contribute, which was being employed as a way to interrupt lawmakers making their submissions on the floor.

“Honorable members, those who are putting on their microphones, Majority leadership, please make sure your members do not put on their microphones. Honorable members, when I say this you get flared up. We are doing government business; we have to finish and leave. Majority Leader, why are your members putting on the microphones? Should we suspend sitting? Ah, what is this,” Asiamah Amoako added.

Gold-for-Oil initiative failed to achieve its purpose – AOMCs CEO

0

Gold-for-Oil programme was to tackle rising fuel prices Gold-for-Oil programme was to tackle rising fuel prices

The Chief Executive of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies, Dr. Riverson Oppong, has expressed disappointment with the much-touted Gold-for-Oil (G4O) programme rolled out by the outgone New Patriotic Party’s government led by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, stating that it failed to stabilize fuel prices and even contributed to fuel shortages.

Dr. Oppong argued that the initiative did not meet its intended objectives and disrupted the industry’s supply chain.

“In the long run, we have seen how this was introduced, and the fact is, it absolutely didn’t curb energy pricing in any way,” Dr. Oppong stated.

He noted that towards the end of 2024, Ghana experienced fuel shortages because Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs) struggled to plan their imports alongside the Gold-for-Oil supply.

“As a result, BDCs were reluctant to import fuel, which led to supply challenges,” he explained.

Dr. Oppong further questioned whether the programme had fulfilled its primary goal of reducing fuel prices, stating emphatically, “The answer is a big no.”

He emphasized that industry players were waiting for the government to outline a new framework to replace the existing policy.

“With dialogue, I believe we can come up with a better solution,” he added.

He spoke on Accra-based Joy News on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

Go And Find A Job And Stop Spewing Rubbish Online – Peeps Tell Lady Claiming Alpha Hour, Duncan Williams And Pastor Oduro Are Occultic Men Of God

0

A self-acclaimed woman of God has sparked outrage on social media after making bold claims that some of Ghana’s most prominent pastors, including the founder of Alpha Hour Pastor Elvis Agyemang, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, and Pastor Kofi Oduro, are involved in occult practices.

The same woman previously accused Snapchat influencer Dulcie of joining an occultic group that allegedly provides her with wealth. However, in her latest video, she shifted her focus to well-respected men of God, claiming they use supernatural forces to control their congregations.

According to her, Pastor Elvis Agyemang, known for leading Alpha Hour midnight prayers, is allegedly using occultic powers. She further alleged that Archbishop Duncan-Williams has made a pact with the devil to ensure no Ghanaian makes it to heaven. Additionally, she claimed that Pastor Kofi Oduro, founder of Alabaster International Ministry, is also part of a secret occultic society.

Her controversial statements have not gone down well with Ghanaians, who have taken to social media to call her out for making baseless accusations. Many have slammed her, urging her to find a job instead of spreading falsehoods about respected religious figures.

“Go and find a job and stop spewing rubbish online!” one angry commenter wrote. Others accused her of seeking attention and clout through defamatory statements.

Minority Threatens To Petition IMF Over Dropped Charges Against BoG Acting Governor

The Minority in Parliament has strongly criticised President John Dramani Mahama for allowing the discontinuation of criminal charges against Dr Johnson Asiamah, the acting Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

Minority Questions Asiama BoG’s Nomination

0

Dr. Gideon Boako

The Minority has raised serious concerns over the nomination of Dr. Johnson Asiama as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

Addressing a press conference earlier today in Parliament, the Minority-led Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako questioned the integrity of the appointment.

He cited Dr. Asiama’s previous legal troubles and the decision to drop the criminal charges against him just before his nomination.

Dr. Boako pointed out that Dr. Asiama, who served as the second Deputy Governor of BoG until his nomination, was standing trial in the courts for several serious charges, including fraudulent breach of trust, money laundering, conspiracy to commit crime, and violations of the Bank of Ghana Act.

The Minority said these charges were unexpectedly withdrawn by former President John Dramani Mahama days before Dr. Asiama’s nomination.

“This is a matter of grave concern,” Dr. Boako said, adding “Dr. Asiama was under trial for serious criminal offenses, some of which directly relate to his role at the Bank of Ghana. Yet, before the judicial process could run its course, President Mahama chose to nominate him to head the very institution responsible for overseeing and preventing the types of crimes he was standing trial for.”

Dr. Boako also referenced a scathing 2019 statement from the Bank of Ghana, which criticized Dr. Asiama’s handling of the collapse of UT Bank and Capital Bank.

The statement accused him of failing to take action to protect depositors and the financial system, opting instead to allow public funds to be used to rescue failed institutions while their shareholders misappropriated these resources.

“It is incredibly troubling that someone whose actions were directly questioned during one of the biggest financial crises in Ghana’s history is now being appointed to lead the institution responsible for ensuring the stability of our financial system,” Dr. Boako continued.

“The evidence against him is clear, yet the charges were conveniently dropped,” he stressed.

Dr. Boako underscored the potential risks of appointing Dr. Asiama as BoG Governor, particularly in the context of Ghana’s ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

He raised concerns about the international community’s perception of Ghana if Dr. Asiama were to assume the high office without the charges being resolved.

“How will the IMF and international financial bodies view us if one of our key representatives is a person facing serious allegations of criminal activity? What will this mean for Ghana’s credibility in the global financial markets?” he asked.

“This is not just a local issue; it affects our international reputation and could have serious economic consequences,” he stated.

The MP also questioned the potential conflict of interest for Dr. Asiama, especially given the fact that many of the charges against him were tied to decisions made while he was at the BoG.
“How can Dr. Asiama be trusted to fairly oversee the Bank of Ghana when he was directly involved in the policies and decisions that led to the financial sector’s turmoil? Will he be biased in his decisions, especially when dealing with the same institutions involved in his past controversies?” Dr. Boako asked.

The NPP MP cautioned that the country risks facing significant political and economic repercussions if Dr. Asiama’s appointment is approved.
He warned that international financial institutions may choose to distance themselves from Ghana due to the uncertainties surrounding Dr. Asiama’s legal standing and the potential for the charges to be reinstated under a future government.

“The international financial community will not overlook these concerns,” he warned.

“They will scrutinize every move made by Dr. Asiama as Governor, and this could result in higher costs for Ghana’s international transactions.

“It is crucial that we do not sacrifice the integrity of our financial system and our international standing for the sake of political expediency,” he intimated.

Dr. Boako announced that the Minority would be writing to the IMF to alert the organisation to these developments and urge them to carefully scrutinize Dr. Asiama’s record and his potential impact on Ghana’s financial future.

“The charges against Dr. Asiama were not just dropped—they were withdrawn, and that raises serious questions,” Dr. Boako concluded. “We must ensure that our central bank is led by someone who is above reproach and whose integrity is unquestionable.
“This is not just a matter of law; it is a matter of protecting the financial stability and credibility of our nation,” he said.

Deadly fire ravages Kisseman slum: Baby killed, properties destroyed

0

A fire broke out early Wednesday dawn at the Kisseman Airways slum, claiming the life of a four-month-old baby and destroying properties

Some eyewitnesses attributed the fire to a candle that was left unattended by the mother of the baby. They were awakened by the cries of the baby and upon reaching the scene the wooden structure was in flames.

Efforts by the residents to save the child proved unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from the Legon and Abelempke Fire Stations responded swiftly, with the first team arriving at 0424 hours, just 12 minutes after receiving the distress fire call at 0412 hours.

Some victims, however, refuted reports by the fire service that they reached scene 12mins after they were called, citing that they reached about an hour later

Victims speaking to Citi News are appealing to the government to extend support to them as they have lost all their properties and have nowhere to go.

An eyewitness who gave her name as Edna stated: “I was asleep when I heard a child scream around 4 am. I came out only to find the whole place in flames. I screamed for help and then went into my room to bring my children outside.

“Some of the guys in the area came out. We tried to tend the fire but were unsuccessful. The majority of our things were burnt into ashes by the time the fire service got here,” Edna, a victim of the fire said.

“We tried our best to tend the fire but we couldn’t. All our properties are burnt. We are suffering, we have nowhere to go. A little support for us will be deeply appreciated,” Emmanuel, another victim said.

‘I was scammed’ – Celestine Donkor calls out food company over fraud concerns

Gospel musician Celestine Donkor Gospel musician Celestine Donkor

Gospel musician Celestine Donkor has recounted a shocking incident that occurred while she was attempting to order food from the renowned restaurant, Papaye.

In a video shared on social media on February 4, 2025, Celestine Donkor narrated how she lost GH¢1,000 while trying to order food for her niece’s birthday party.

“I have been scammed by Papaye’s online service, and I am making this video to create awareness. My sister’s kids were celebrating their birthday, so I decided to order from Papaye’s Lapaz branch. I found a contact number online and called. They took my order and gave me a bill, asking me to make payment. I told them I would pay upon pickup, but they declined, claiming that some customers place orders but fail to pay when the food is ready.”

“I proceeded with the payment, but the moment the money was deducted, I noticed that the recipient’s name was not ‘Papaye.’ However, it was the same number I had found online. When I called back, they insisted they were Papaye but were using their manager’s number for transactions. They even asked me to enter a code. That was when I realized I had been scammed,” she explained.

Celestine Donkor further alleged that the staff at Papaye were aware of the fraudulent activities but showed little interest in resolving the issue to prevent future occurrences.

“The attitude of the Papaye staff at the Lapaz branch when I got there clearly showed they were aware of the scam. Their response lacked any urgency or concern. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them is behind this fraud. Beware! Don’t be a victim,” she warned.

Celestine Donkor is not the only person who has fallen victim to such scams when ordering food from the restaurant. Recently, brand influencer and actress Ahuofe Patri also took to social media to share a similar experience after attempting to order food from Papaye.

Abu Jinapor under heavy fire for using fake photo to attack Sam George

Samuel Abu Jinapor is the MP of Damongo Samuel Abu Jinapor is the MP of Damongo

The Member of Parliament of Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has faced significant online criticism following his conduct in Parliament on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

During his submission before the approval of Sam George as the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, the lawmaker referenced a fabricated image of his colleague circulating on social media.

Jinapor aimed to advise Sam George to be more mindful of the content he engages with and how he spends his time during parliamentary proceedings, unaware that the image he referenced was, in fact, fabricated to tarnish Sam George’s reputation.

Making his submission, he said, “The Honorable Sam George, as an elder of the Perez Chapel and not just a member and as somebody who espouses his Christian values, should also be mindful of what he watches when he is in Parliament, especially when serious business is being conducted in the house. It appears my brother has some explanation to give.”

His statement provoked loud protests from the Majority in the house, who strongly objected to his claims.

This has ignited outrage on social media, with critics arguing that the well-educated lawmaker should have known that the image he referenced was fabricated by malicious individuals.

They have strongly condemned his actions, describing his conduct as irresponsible and suggesting he attempted to engage in a smear campaign against his colleague.

Critics also expressed concerns about how politics has been degraded to smear campaigns against individuals, calling for him to issue an apology.

‘There’s high level of opacity’

0

Minister of Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor Minister of Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor

The Minister of Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, has asserted that the gold-for-oil programme launched by the Akufo-Addo government lacks transparency.

According to him, due to its opaqueness, the programme will be reviewed and discontinued for the betterment of the nation.

To support his claim while speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, he stated that the Auditor-General had flagged the gold-for-oil programme, and it was important for the government to examine it and replace it with another programme.

John Jinapor said, “There’s a high level of opacity, and the clarity is not there.”

“The Auditor General has flagged it. So it’s not just what we are saying. It is a fact. The reality is that we are reforming all of this because of the high level of opacity… If it were clear, transparent, and easily understood, you would not even need the reforms we are pursuing,” he added.

When asked whether the government would maintain the policy, he stated categorically, “No, we will replace it with a better programme. The current gold-for-oil programme we’ve inherited, we will discontinue.”

The gold-for-oil policy was a strategic programme launched by the Akufo-Addo government.

It aimed to utilize the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase (DGP) programme to support the importation of petroleum products into the country.

The initiative was designed to free up foreign exchange resources and reduce pressure on the central bank’s foreign reserves and the banking sector.

It also sought to procure petroleum products at competitive prices through Government-to-Government arrangements.

The BoG purchases all gold produced and exported by companies with licensed small-scale concessions, including community mines. This gold is then used to pay for oil supplies to Ghana, either through barter trade or via a broker channel.

Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been slammed by a section of the public over a goal he conceded during Amazulu’s game against Kaizer Chiefs in the South African League.

During the game, a Kaizer Chiefs player headed the ball from the left side of the penalty box, and Ofori attempted to catch the ball with his left hand but ended up palming it into his net.

This was a shocking moment in the match, with the commentator describing the howler as “unbelievable.”

The incident led to some football fans on social media lambasting Ofori for his poor goalkeeping skills, with some individuals accusing him of intentionally making the mistake because he had placed a bet.

Others ridiculed him and called for his contract to be terminated by Amazulu, citing that his errors would continue to cost the team if he remained in the post.

It will be recalled that Ofori faced vehement criticism after conceding a poor goal in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Mozambique, which denied the Black Stars the chance to progress to the knockout stage.
