You Disgraced NPP, Step Aside for Kennedy Agyapong to Take Over – NPP Supporters in Kumasi Warn Bawumia

0

A group of Ghanaian traders in the Ashanti Regional Capital of Kumasi, the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have called for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to withdraw from any futurue flagbearership contests of the party.

Speaking during a press conference in Kumasi, the traders said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer had miserably failed therefore, he should go into hiding and leave the future of the party to former Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The spokesperson for the group said since 2008 when Akufo-Addo brought Bawumia to the NPP till date, he has failed multiple times and brought shame and disgrace on the party.

Dr Mahamudua Bawumia was elected the NPP flagbearer after Nana Akufo-Addo. He beat Kennedy Agyapong in the primaries but fell in the general elections where President Mahama completely trashed him.

Ministerial vetting process focuses more on political commentary than competence – Sulemana Braimah

0

The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has criticised the ministerial vetting process, claiming it is focused more on scrutinising nominees’ past political statements than evaluating their competence and qualifications for the positions they have been nominated for.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, Mr Braimah stated, “The process is really aimed at scrutinising people’s past political rhetoric and commentary, rather than focusing on competence, experience, and the issues related to the roles they have been appointed to.”

He cited the vetting of Foreign Minister and Communications Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Samuel Nartey George, where the minority attacked them for comments they had made about former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“It was more about what you said about former President Akufo-Addo, you did this, you are involved in ORAL, where do you live, and so on,” he said.

Mr Braimah expressed his expectation that the committee will focus on addressing critical issues affecting the country and how to tackle matters such as “geopolitical issues and other global events that have significant implications for our nation.”

He also condemned the minority for criticising nominees who had openly criticised former President Akufo-Addo, asking, “Is the minority or the NPP group suggesting that it is a crime to have been critical of the president or the Chief Justice?”

Parliament’s Appointments Committee has vetted and approved several ministers, including those for Finance, Energy, Justice, Lands and Natural Resources, Foreign Affairs, Roads and Highways, and the Interior.

Tidal waves force families to exhume loved ones

0

Despite repeated appeals for the government to extend the Keta Sea Defense project to Amutinu, Salakope, Adina, and nearby communities in the Ketu South Municipality, residents continue to suffer from devastating tidal waves.

The persistent waves have eroded vast stretches of land, displacing many and leaving them without shelter.

In the latest tidal surge, even graves were affected, forcing families to exhume their deceased relatives for reburial elsewhere.

Although the previous government pledged to construct 105 houses on higher ground to relocate affected residents, only six have been roofed so far, leaving many without a permanent solution.

Speaking to Citi News, Gideon Tetteh, a Unit Committee member for the Amutinu-Salakope electoral area, called for urgent government intervention to prevent further destruction and hardship.

“The sea has destroyed properties here and we have had many promises from the government but nothing has happened. They promised that they will build 105 homes for us but only six have been built and there is nothing also happening with the sea defense project and so we are pleading with the government to come to our aid.

“As you can see here as well, people are taking the dead from the graves because the sea is taking over the graves and they have to relocate them and that is causing more harm than good to the environment.”

Only death can end Mahama-Anyidoho beef – Captain Smart

0

Broadcast journalist, Captain Smart says the existing rift between President John Dramani Mahama and embattled former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho can never be resolved in this lifetime.

According to him, Koku Anyidoho is the root cause of their strained relationship and that relationship can never be fixed.

Being a brand influencer is not a profitable business in Ghana – Mikki Osei Berko

Renowned Ghanaian actor and brand influencer, Mikki Osei Berko play videoRenowned Ghanaian actor and brand influencer, Mikki Osei Berko

Renowned Ghanaian actor and brand influencer, Mikki Osei Berko, has addressed the misconceptions surrounding ambassadorial deals in Ghana.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment on February 6, 2025, Mikki Osei Berko explained that being a brand ambassador in Ghana is not as profitable as many may believe.

He stated that, compared to developed countries, the financial benefits from ambassadorial deals in Ghana are not rewarding enough.

“I can speak for myself, and I think it’s not as lucrative as many expect. If I were doing what I am doing here in another part of the world, I’m sure I’d be flying in a private jet. But here in Ghana, if you’re not careful, you could end up using public transport,” he stated.

He also stated that most Ghanaians do not fully understand the importance of ambassadorial roles, leading to influencers being paid small amounts after completing projects.

“I believe it will get better. Some of the brands I’ve worked with are doing better than others, but you take what you can, and I call it survival because things will improve eventually. Some people think what we do is a part-time job, but for me, it’s a full-time commitment. Some even invite you to work on radio or TV commercials, and when you hear how much they’re willing to pay, it’s shocking,” he disclosed.

Mikki Osei Berko also mentioned that there are instances where brands would offer him the opportunity to MC events but expect to compensate him with just food, a situation that reflects a lack of appreciation for the value of his work.

“Sometimes, because of the need to survive, you take on commitments not because of the financial return but just to get by. It’s unfortunate that people don’t always value what we do as they should,” he concluded.

We have become a country of hooliganism

0

Former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Sam Okudzeto Former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Sam Okudzeto

Former President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Sam Okudzeto, has expressed concern over what he describes as the growing acts of hooliganism in the country, particularly during and after the December 7 elections.

Speaking in an interview on Hot Issues on TV3, on Wednesday, February 6, 2025, he stated that such lawless acts threaten the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.

Sam Okudzeto suggested that much of the controversies surrounding elections is caused by the actions of political actors, rather than the Electoral Commission (EC).

The former GBA president also pointed out instances during the elections where EC officials were allegedly threatened with guns and forced to declare certain candidates as winners, describing such actions as a manifestation of the growing lawlessness in the country.

“It is not the EC’s job to fight political parties. They are trying not to give the impression that they are against any particular group. But how do people go and set fire to ballot boxes in an electoral office? What does that mean? It’s hooliganism.

“Now, we become a country of hooligans. How do people go and set up fire to the ballot boxes in an electoral office? What’s the meaning? It’s hooliganism when people felt that the CI127 kind of guided the elections”, he stated.

Okudzeto further argued that any disputes on electoral results should be settled through the pink sheets, which serve as the final record of the elections.

“When there is confusion over who has won, let’s go to the pink sheets and see what they say. That is final. How can some claim not to have it? Were they not at the polling station? That is the lie of lies,” he added.

He called for greater responsibility from political parties and a commitment to peaceful democratic processes.

The 2024 general elections saw a surge in electoral violence, with 76 incidents recorded, according to a joint report by CDD-Ghana, CODEO, WANEP, and NERG.

Key electoral materials and EC offices at Damango and Ayensuano were destroyed, raising concerns over the credibility of the elections.

The post-election period was also marked by arson, raids, and attacks on party offices by disgruntled governing party supporters protesting delays in political appointments.

Why Archbishop Duncan-Williams cried after seeing Akufo-Addo, John Mahama together

0

Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams play videoFounder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams

The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has revealed that he shed tears during the transitional period of change of government when he saw former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President John Dramani Mahama together in a happy mood.

According to him, seeing the two statesmen sharing a happy moment made him feel better and brought tears of joy.

He explained that as a country, there is a need for leaders, regardless of political affiliation, to join forces and make the country better.

He also dismissed claims by critics that the warm exchange between Akufo-Addo and Mahama, which captured a lighthearted moment between them, was merely a publicity stunt for the cameras.

The preacher is seen addressing his congregation in a viral video, insisting that regardless of whether the moment was staged for the cameras, witnessing them together was a positive sign for the nation.

“When I saw President Nana Akufo-Addo and the incoming President John Dramani Mahama, taking pictures and shaking hands; tears were flowing from my eyes, and I said, this is all we want to see.

“Even if you think it was fake, those of you who have your own thoughts and minds and don’t believe in anything good… even when you saw that they were sitting together, you were saying it was faked. Don’t mind them.

“Whether it was fake or real, the fact that the two of them could sit together like we saw the President of America and President Trump sitting together in the White House, I saw the two of them sitting together like that,” he said.

He added, “And they shook hands, and when I saw those pictures, I said, God, my heart yearns to see more of this, where our leaders can truly come together and realize that it is not about them and their political party but it is about the country and the good of the citizens.”

‘When did the IMF become our schoolmaster?’ – Dr. Kwakye chides Gideon Boako over BoG Governor petition

0

Senior economist, Dr. John Kwakye and MP for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako Senior economist, Dr. John Kwakye and MP for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako

Renowned economist Dr. John Kwakye has strongly opposed concerns raised by the Minority in Parliament regarding the nomination of Dr. Johnson Asiama as Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

During a press conference on February 5, 2025, the Minority caucus, led by Member of Parliament for Tano North Dr. Gideon Boako, hinted at plans to petition the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over Dr. Asiama’s appointment.

They cited concerns about the legality of his nomination and questioned his integrity.

Reacting to this, Dr. Kwakye in a series of posts shared on X, criticized the move, emphasising that while the IMF may have jurisdiction over Ghana’s External Credit Facility (ECF), it has no authority over the appointment of the Central Bank Governor.

He specifically questioned Dr. Gideon Boako’s rationale for seeking IMF intervention, describing it as naive and immature.

“Why should the IMF be brought into this matter? Can’t we resolve our issues internally? Even if it’s a legal issue, don’t we have our own legal structures to address it?” Dr. Kwakye wrote.

He continued, “Dr. Boako’s stated intention to petition the IMF on a purely internal matter shows his naivety and immaturity. Has he exhausted all internal structures and processes? And, by the way, when did the IMF become our schoolmaster?”

The IEA Director of Research further stated, “Those who believe we should involve the IMF in resolving our internal matters suffer from a colonial mentality, to say the least. The IMF may have jurisdiction over our ECF program, but it certainly has no role in the appointment of our Central Bank Governor.”

Dr. Asiama was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama on January 31, 2025 to replace Dr. Ernest Addison, who has proceeded on terminal leave ahead of his retirement in March 2025.

His appointment is currently pending consultation and approval by the Council of State.

South African president and Elon Musk discuss ‘misinformation’ after Trump aid threat

0

President Cyril Ramaphosa speaks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Jan. 21, 2025 President Cyril Ramaphosa speaks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Jan. 21, 2025

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke to Elon Musk “on issues of misinformation and distortions about South Africa,” the presidency announced on Tuesday.

“In the process, the President reiterated South Africa’s constitutionally embedded values of the respect for the rule of law, justice, fairness and equality,” it said.

The presidency said the pair spoke on Monday, a day after US President Donald Trump threatened to cut off aid to South Africa over the alleged mistreatment of White farmers in the country.

In a blistering post on Truth Social, Trump said he would halt funding until there was a full investigation into allegations that “South Africa is confiscating land, and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY.”

Trump said “massive” human rights violations were happening in South Africa “for all to see,” without giving details or providing evidence.

Ramaphosa on Monday denied that South African authorities were “confiscating land” and said his country was looking forward to working with the Trump administration “over our land reform policy.”

Trump’s complaint, which he also made in 2018 during his first term in the White House, refers to South Africa’s complex land reform.

During South Africa’s apartheid era, racist policies forcefully removed Black and non-White South Africans from the land for White use. Since South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994, there has been a land redistribution and restitution provision in the country’s constitution.

However, unemployment and poverty remain acute among Black South Africans, who make up around 80% of the population, yet own a fraction of the land.

Last month, Ramaphosa signed a bill into law providing new guidelines for land expropriation, including enabling the government to expropriate land without compensation in certain cases.

Musk, a South African-born billionaire and head of the US’ new Department of Government Efficiency, had previously criticized Ramaphosa’s new policy.

In a post on X, the website he owns, Musk on Monday accused Ramaphosa of having “openly racist ownership laws.”

Ramaphosa had said earlier that, like the United States and other countries, South Africa has “always had expropriation laws that balance the need for public usage of land and the protection of rights of property owners.”

Responding to Trump’s aid threat, Ramaphosa said that, other than a major HIV/AIDS relief program, the US did not provide significant funding to South Africa.

What Have I Done To You To Lie Against Me This Way?- Cecelia Marfo Weeps As She Quizzes Diana Asamoah

0

Speaking in a tearful outburst, Cecilia Marfo expressed her pain and confusion, insisting that she has never done anything to sabotage Diana Asamoah’s music career. “What have I done to you to lie against me this way? How did I prevent you from progressing?” she quizzed, struggling to hold back her emotions.

Diana Asamoah had earlier alleged that Cecilia Marfo was behind her struggles in the gospel industry, claiming that she deliberately prevented her songs from being played and went as far as stealing her music and burying her CDs. The shocking allegations have sparked debates within the gospel fraternity, with fans and industry insiders divided over the truth behind the claims.

According to Diana Asamoah, the reason Cecelia Marfo was condemning those bashing Prophet Ogyaba for tarnishing the image of Christianity is because of her own ev!l conviction.

GRIDCo vows to prevent ‘dumsor’ during WAPCo maintenance

0

The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) has assured the public of measures to prevent power outages, commonly known as “dumsor,” during the rescheduled maintenance by the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo). The maintenance, which began on February 5, is expected to conclude on March 2, 2025.

In a joint statement, GRIDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd (ECG) confirmed that, under the leadership of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, substantial volumes of liquid fuel have been secured to power key plants in Tema as an alternative energy source.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security (IES), commended the government’s proactive steps in securing liquid fuel reserves to sustain electricity supply.

“The postponement of the maintenance programme gives the government ample time to build up liquid fuel reserves. If the exercise proceeds and national gas flow to power plants in the Eastern enclave is disrupted, there will be enough liquid fuel to keep the plants operational,” he explained.

Amoasi further highlighted that plants like Asogli and the entire Tema power plant will remain unaffected, ensuring no loss in generation capacity.

“This will allow the government to proceed with confidence, avoiding criticism, and ensuring consumers enjoy a steady and reliable power supply,” he added.

Adansi North Acting DCE flees office as Assembly Members protest alleged misconduct

0

The Coordinating Director and acting District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Adansi North District Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Thomas Kwame Okrah, fled his office on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, after aggrieved Assembly Members staged a protest against him.

The Assembly Members accused Mr. Okrah of disrespecting them and allegedly misusing the Assembly’s resources, including DRIP machines, for personal business.

They also claimed he tampered with the list of Assembly Members set to participate in the upcoming Council of State election.

Sensing the anger of the approaching protestors, Mr. Okrah quickly vacated his office before the Fomena police intervened to restore order.

Despite the restored calm, the Assembly Members have petitioned traditional authorities, the regional minister, and other relevant officials to push for Okrah’s immediate transfer from the district.

Speaking to Citi News, Presiding Member Dominic Odame Kusi outlined the reasons for their protest.

“Per the law, two members have to be selected from the Assembly Members. As the Presiding Member, I submitted the names to him for official endorsement and onward submission to the Regional Coordinating Council. However, I later discovered that the names had been changed without consultation. The Assembly Members were not happy with it, leading to the protest.”

He also reiterated concerns about the alleged misuse of the DRIP machines, claiming they had been used for unauthorized purposes.

“We also realized that the DRIP machines were being used for other work, and when we checked, names had been changed. We had to pack up the machines. We no longer want to work with him and have taken steps to ensure his transfer.

“A petition has been sent to the Coordinating Council, the regional minister, and the chiefs, and we have been assured that we will hear from them soon.”

MP delivers parliamentary contribution in Asante Twi, calls for improved infrastructure

0

By Elsie Appiah-Osei

Accra, Feb 06, GNA – In a historic moment in Ghana’s Parliament, on Wednesday, February 5, Mr Ohene Kwame Frimpong, an Independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem North, delivered a full contribution to parliamentary proceedings entirely in Asante Twi language.

Speaking in Twi, Mr Frimpong, who now aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus, emphasised the need to improve road infrastructure across the country to boost local tourism.

His comments were in support of a statement made by a colleague on the Floor of the House on tourism.

Mr Frimpong, also drew the attention of the House to inefficient streetlights on roads and alleged prostitution in his Constituency.

However, he was later compelled by the Second Deputy Speaker, Mr Andrew Asiamah Amoako who presided over the proceedings to translate his comments into the English language.

According to Order 63 of the new Standing Orders of the House, an MP may use any of the local languages subject to interpretation and translation to ensure understanding by all.

This provision was expected to take effect during the Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Eighth Parliament.

In 2024, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, announced that necessary facilities, including translators and gadgets were being put in place to facilitate the use of local languages in Parliament. “…. So, barring any hitches, the new measure will take off after the Easter break,” Mr Bagbin said.

Mr Frimpong’s bold move has sparked interest in the use of local languages in Ghana’s Parliament, promoting diversity and inclusivity in the country’s legislative processes.

10 people killed at Swedish city of Örebro

0

About 10 people have been killed in a shooting incident at a school in the Swedish city of Örebro.

Addressing the press, the local police chief, Roberto Eid Forest, revealed that the alleged perpetrator is believed to be among the dead.

The shooting which the police doubt was a terror attack happened around midday at an adult education centre in Örebro, about 160 kilometres west of Stockholm.

According to Eid Forest, the suspected perpetrator, who is a man had not previously been known to police and is thought to have acted alone.

In an interview with broadcaster SVT radio, school principal Ingela Bäck Gustafsson said she had been on her lunch break when students ran past her shouting that everyone should leave the school grounds.

“When I got to the playground, I heard shots, very close by,” Bäck Gustafsson added. “We ran for our lives.”

Numerous police officers and emergency responders were deployed to the school at the Risbergska campus, with students and staff being cared for at the school, as well as at neighbouring schools and shops.

Reportedly, heavily armed police forces were seen at a residential address in Örebro in the afternoon at what could be the home of the alleged perpetrator.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed shock and extended his condolences to the victim’s families in a post on X, calling it a very painful day for all of Sweden.

“No one should have to experience the nightmare of sitting in a classroom and fearing for their lives,” he said.

Plan International Ghana hosts grand close-out ceremony for WISE Project [Photos]

0

Plan International Ghana has concluded its impactful five-year Women’s Innovation for Sustainable Enterprises (WISE) Project with a celebratory close-out ceremony.

The colorful ceremony took place at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra on Wednesday under the theme: “When Rights Are Realized, Growth Is Inevitable: Lessons and the Legacy of WISE.”

The WISE project, launched in 2020, was initiated by Plan International Ghana and funded by Global Affairs Canada. It was designed to empower women entrepreneurs across five districts in the Bono, Bono East, and Northern regions of Ghana.

The five-year initiative targeted approximately 12,641 direct beneficiaries, focusing on agribusiness and green business development.

In his address, the Country Director, Dr. Constant Tchona, stated that Plan International, a human rights organization, strives to improve the lives of children, young girls, and women who are the most vulnerable in society.

“We go beyond addressing the symptoms of the numerous challenges and explicitly tackle the root causes of gender inequality, particularly unequal power relations and discriminatory social norms,” he said.

Dr. Tchona emphasized the importance of empowering women economically, stating that their rights and potential are pivotal to driving broader economic development.

He highlighted the organization’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8, which focuses on promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.

The Project Manager, Theodora Asare, acknowledged that the journey was challenging, especially since it took off during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

“The project recognizes the aspiration and potential of Ghanaian women entrepreneurs. We targeted 12,600, but 14,123 were directly reached, and 5,445 women received support. It was in partnership with 11 Women’s Rights Organizations, five microfinance institutions, three private sector entities, and five government agencies.

“We created 64 child-friendly spaces and refurbished 28 for children under four. The women kept their children at the centers so they could effectively go about their businesses,” she detailed.

However, through resilience and the unwavering dedication of partners, they made it this far. She added that the support of traditional leaders also could not be underestimated.

“We have created market opportunities and directly linked women entrepreneurs to buyers, sensitized communities on business services, and worked with male community leaders, especially around the shared home,” she said.

The Senior Programs Manager, Ashley Dawson, noted that the project wouldn’t have been successful without effective partnerships.

Miss Dawson stressed the need for strong and continued partnerships in an ever-changing and connected world.

She revealed that Global Affairs Canada has, over the past decade, committed CA$22 million to Plan International’s work in Ghana through three projects all aimed at supporting the rights of girls and women.

For the Director and Head of Operations at the Canadian High Commission, Kathleen Flynn Dapaah, such gender-transformational projects have been a success due to the Canadian Feminists International Assistance.

“We believe that gender equality matters and that the empowerment of women is central to ending poverty, promoting prosperity, and peace,” she stated.

On the part of stakeholders, URBANET and the Women Integrated Development Organisation (WIDO), it was with great joy and pride that they saw the successful completion of the project.

They noted that the close-out ceremony was not an end to the project but a celebration of the success of the life-changing initiative that has empowered over 14,000 women.

“We were able to work with traditional leaders to promote gender equality and build solar hubs for the women,” they boasted.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Seth Twum Akwaboah, who was also present, highlighted their pivotal role in the project’s implementation.

Mr. Akwaboah affirmed that AGI believes that women empowerment is key to economic development and therefore mentored 51 selected women and provided them with industry insights and networking opportunities.

On the part of the beneficiaries of the WISE project, it was nothing short of excitement as they boasted of significant improvements in their livelihoods, including enhanced skills in savings, investment, record-keeping, branding, and basic business management.

The project has also established over 500 women’s savings groups to promote a culture of savings among participants.

Ghana Police have confirmed the arrest of Elizabeth Akosua Ntiriwaa better known as Akosua China, a key suspect in the tragic death of Nana Pooley, a die-hard Asante Kotoko supporter.

The Police announced the arrest in a statement released on Thursday, February 6, 2025, stating that she is currently in custody.

The arrest comes after an intensive police investigation into the violent incident that led to Pooley’s untimely demise. Authorities have yet to disclose full details of Akosua China’s involvement, but sources indicate that she is suspected of playing a direct role in the events that led to Pooley’s death.

The tragic incident, which occurred at Nana Koramansah Park, sent shockwaves across the Ghanaian football community, prompting calls for swift justice and enhanced security measures at match venues.

Following the announcement, Asante Kotoko SC and Accra Hearts of Oak reiterated their demand for stricter security measures in Ghana football. The two clubs recently submitted a joint position paper to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), urging reforms to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.

The police have assured the public of a thorough and transparent investigation, promising that all individuals responsible for Pooley’s death will face justice.

Meanwhile, supporters of Asante Kotoko continue to mourn the loss of one of their most passionate fans, demanding that Kotoko boycott the Ghana Premier League in pursuit of justice.

I’m tired of sleeping with my pastor everyday just to settle my school fees

Dear GhanaWeb,

I am a university student from a very poor background. As the first child of seven siblings, I have lost both of my parents and now bear the full responsibility of caring for myself and my six younger siblings. Life has been incredibly challenging for us, and sometimes, I struggle to afford even a single meal a day.

Most of my parents’ properties were taken by my uncles, who have labeled us as ungrateful children. However, by God’s grace, the church has been a great support to me and my siblings. But there’s a problem I’m currently facing that has left me feeling deeply depressed.

Since finishing high school, it has always been my dream to continue my education at university. However, I couldn’t afford it until my church decided to organize a fundraising for needy but bright students. After the fundraiser, I was selected, and they generously covered my fees for the entire first year. They also provided more than enough money for my upkeep. After the first semester, I was proud of my results, and so was the church.

My pastor called me into his office and gave me a new phone as a gift. This continued until my second year, when a new semester was about to begin.

One day, my pastor called me to his place to inform me that this year’s fundraising had not been as successful as in previous years, so there would be a delay in the payment of my fees. He asked for my patience. I agreed, hoping everything would be resolved soon. However, when my pastor asked if I was in a relationship, it felt strange to me, as I had never been in one before. I told him no, explaining that I was solely focused on my education.

He told me to come give him a hug which was no problem for me, but while we were hugging he was holding my waist so tightly and rubbing his hand around my buttocks.

He told me I am very beautiful and that men would want to take advantage of me so I should take care of myself.

He also said I will be a great person in future so I shouldn’t mess with my life and I will need a good man for myself.

After first semester, I went to do my internship at my pastor’s company and that’s when things began to fall apart.

During my internship, I had to go stay with my pastor so we could go to work together.

He was married with 3 kids. My stay there for a while was awesome, they treated me like one of their own.

One morning, I woke up at 5am as usual and while I was taking my bath, I heard someone entering my room.

In a few minutes, the bathroom door opened and to my surprise, my pastor was standing there naked.

He slept with me in the bathroom, it was my first time and was really painful. After we were done, he asked me not to tell anyone and according to him, he is in love with me. I wasn’t myself the whole day when I went to work.

When this happened, his wife and children were in the main house and I was in the boys’ quarters.

He slept with me every single day and this continued till I was done with internship and I had to go home.

I went home for a month and he never touched me during those times till school resumed and I had to go inform him about my school fees.

I went to his office and I was on my period that day, he told me he has missed me so he wants to enjoy me.

I told him I was on my period but he insisted and had his way with me. I gave in because he threatened that I should forget about my school fees.

Later, I heard he has been doing this to other girls and when they get pregnant, he tells them abort it.

If I tell my church members about this, they won’t believe me so I have been keeping it to myself. Honestly this is really hunting me and I sometimes don’t feel like going to the church again but I know they would say I’m ungrateful due to the help the pastor had given me. Now what should I do? Who should I talk to? And who would even believe me when I tell them about this?

Indigenous operators key to energy sector growth

Edward Bawa encouraged Springfield to prioritize first gas production Edward Bawa encouraged Springfield to prioritize first gas production

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering indigenous participation in the country’s upstream petroleum sector.

This comes after Springfield’s Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Okyere, led the delegation on a visit to congratulate and engage with GNPC’s new Chief Executive Officer, Edward Abambire Bawa.

The discussions centered on Springfield’s ongoing operations, the broader landscape of Ghana’s petroleum industry, and strategies to maximize the country’s hydrocarbon resources amid ongoing gas supply challenges.

The GNPC CEO Edward Bawa recognized Springfield’s pioneering role as an indigenous operator, emphasising the importance of local participation in retaining value, attracting investment, and creating employment within the sector.

He reiterated GNPC’s dedication to strengthening collaboration with key players to drive Ghana’s energy security and economic development.

“Springfield has demonstrated the potential of indigenous operators in the upstream petroleum industry. Their success is key to inspiring further investment and growth in the sector,” the GNPC CEO stated.

“As Ghana seeks to optimize its petroleum resources, GNPC remains open to engagements that align with our mandate to enhance national energy security and economic growth,” he added.

On the critical issue of Ghana’s gas supply deficit, both parties acknowledged the strategic role of natural gas in the country’s energy transition and economic advancement.

Kevin Okyere on his part assured GNPC of Springfield’s commitment to working closely with the Corporation to ensure the successful exploitation of Ghana’s hydrocarbon resources.

“The GNPC has been very supportive of Springfield from its inception. Together, we can collaborate further to realize Ghana’s dream of becoming energy self-sufficient,” Okyere added.

In his concluding remarks, Edward Bawa encouraged Springfield to prioritize first gas production, as this would significantly advance Ghana’s petrochemical industry and value addition initiatives.

“When others see your success, they will be attracted to the upstream industry. Anytime you need GNPC’s support, we’ll be there to assist you,” he assured.

The meeting underscored GNPC’s ongoing commitment to strategic partnerships that enhance national energy security and deliver long-term benefits to the Ghanaian economy.

Alhaji Grusah narrates how GFA ‘punished’ his club after boycotting match over poor security

0

Alhaji Karim Grusah is the owner of King Faisal F.C Alhaji Karim Grusah is the owner of King Faisal F.C

Owner of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Grusah, has disclosed that his club was sanctioned by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after boycotting a game due to security concerns.

According to his narration, there was a time when his club refused to play matches against Ashanti Gold and Hearts of Lions over inadequate security concerns.

He indicated that when he lodged a complaint about the issue, there was no positive response, which compelled King Faisal to withdraw from the games.

Speaking in an interview with Peace FM, Alhaji Grusah stated that the GFA decided to deduct three points from King Faisal for their refusal to play the match without addressing the security issue they raised.

“Security is not good in Ghana football. The Ghana Football Association hasn’t prioritized security. We have categories of police numbers for the first division and premier division. If you go and they don’t provide the required number, and you protest, they don’t care. If you say there’s no security and you stop playing, the GFA will take the points and declare you the loser.

“It happened to me at Ashgold and Heart of Lions. So, the GFA dosn’t care. During Nyantakyi’s time, too, the same problem existed. When you go to Wa, they’ll say there are no police,” he is quoted to have said by Ghanasoccernet.

He made these remarks while commenting on the demise of staunch Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during a melee at a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Kotoko on February 2, 2025.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have banned Nsoatreman from using their home venue and initiated a probe into the violent incident.

Ni Wig As3 Jezebel – Peeps Bash Mary Rockstar For Defending Ogyaba And Blasting His Side Chick For Exposing Him

0

Mary Rockstar, the former house help of Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene, has come under heavy criticism after publicly defending Prophet Ogyaba while condemning his alleged side chick for exposing him.

In a recent interview, Mary stated that if she were in the side chick’s position, she would have remained silent and enjoyed the benefits rather than bringing their issues into the public domain. She described the woman’s decision to expose Prophet Ogyaba as immature and unnecessary, suggesting that she should have handled the situation privately.

Her comments, however, did not sit well with many social media users, who immediately called her out for what they perceived as a flawed and questionable stance. Some critics went as far as mocking her appearance, with one person stating, “Ni wig asɛ Jezebel,” implying that her hairstyle resembled that of the biblical Jezebel, who was often associated with controversy and manipulation.

Others felt that Mary had no moral authority to dictate how the situation should have been handled, arguing that she was normalising infidelity and covering up wrongdoing.

“So according to her, women should keep quiet and accept being disrespected just because of money? What kind of mentality is this?” one outraged commenter wrote.

Mahama expresses gratitude to Chiefs and People of Western Region

0

By Iddi Yire

Accra, Feb 06, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his profound gratitude to the Chiefs and People of the Western Region for voting massively for him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 General Election.

In the December 2024 elections, the NDC won 15 out of the 17 Parliamentary Seats in the Western region.

President Mahama has therefore, thanked the people in his address at a grand durbar of the Chiefs and People of the region held at the Sekondi Methodist Park during his “Thank You Tour” of the region.

The nationwide tour, which began on Friday, January 24, in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital is to enable the President to express his appreciation to Ghanaians for the overwhelming support and trust reposed in him in the 2024 elections.

President Mahama said: “I wish to first give thanks to the Almighty God for protecting and preserving our lives and sparing us to assemble here today to give glory to his name.

“It is a great joy for me to stand here before you in the heart of the Western region, a land of immense promise, rich history and extraordinary potential.

“I am here with a deep sense of humility and gratitude to say a sincere thank you for the overwhelming support you showed me during the last election.”

He noted that Ghanaians’ trust and believe in his Government’s vision for resetting and renewing their country, was what had brought them that far, and that he does not take it for granted at all.

“Today I stand before you not just as your President, but as a son of this great land of ours, Ghana, and as a leader who believes in the potential of our people, and as a servant who is ready to work tirelessly to ensure that the Western region and Ghana as a whole, move forward into a future of prosperity, dignity and progress,” President Mahama stated.

“We will have the opportunity as a nation soon to pray and give thanks to the Almighty God, as enjoined by the Holy Book that says that in all things give thanks.”

The President, who also thanked God for his beautiful blessings on the nation, said he would soon announce a planning committee made up of religious leaders to plan the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

He proposed that this National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving should be held on July 1, which was also Ghana’s Republic Day and also marks Senior Citizens Day.

He said, he would soon present to Parliament amendments to the Public Holidays Act in order that they could restore July 1, as a holiday.

“In the amendment of the Public Holidays Act, we shall also make provision to fulfill our promise to the Muslim community of an extra holiday to mark the Muslim Festival of Eid al-Fitr.”

President Mahama said the Western region had long been the bedrock of Ghana’s economy.

He said from gold to cocoa, from oil to timber, the region had contributed immensely to national wealth; declaring that “and yet for far too long it has not received its fair share of development. Nananom, this must change.”

“I am here today, Nananom, to assure you that under my leadership as President of the Republic of Ghana, the Western region will take its rightful place as a priority in Ghana’s development agenda,” the President said.

He said the great wealth of the region must translate into better roads, into quality health care, into improved job opportunities, into improved education and a better standard of living for the people.

The President recalled that during the 2024 election, he came to the region to sought the blessing and the mandate of the Chiefs and People and they responded by affirming him, by entrusting him with the leadership of this country.

“And today I came here simply to say two words: “Thank You” to all the hundreds of thousands of people who voted for me here in the Western region,” the President said.

“I am here to reaffirm my commitment to honouring the trust and confidence you have reposed in me.”

He said, his Government would deliver on their promises and that he was hopeful that the Chiefs and People would see tangible, life-changing developments across the region soon.

“We will move forward together with hope, unity and determination. The Western region is the heartbeat of Ghana’s progress.

“Let us therefore rise together and build a future that is prosperous, that is just, that is fair and that is filled with opportunities for all.”

The government has announced plans to reassess the operations of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) as part of efforts to revamp the facility with a strong emphasis on Ghanaian participation.

This initiative aligns with the country’s local content policy, aimed at empowering indigenous businesses in key economic sectors.

Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, John Jinapor, has been engaging industry stakeholders, emphasizing the need for local entrepreneurs to play a leading role in any restructuring or investment efforts at the refinery.

“Our refinery is also a key integral part of what we intend to do. Our vision is that if we can get you Ghanaian entrepreneurs to lead the process, it will help us a lot.

“We will take a second look at Tema Oil Refinery. But in line with our local content policy, we will want to give the first option to you captains of industry in Ghana here. Where you do not have capacity, I am confident that you can source for capacity to augment what you do with it,” the minister said.

Population boom presents Accra with rising challenges – Afua Adwubi Wiafe Akenteng writes

0

Accra, Ghana’s dynamic capital is on track to become one of Africa’s largest cities in the coming years. A key driver of this transformation is the city’s rapidly expanding population.

According to projections by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) for 2021–2050, Accra’s population stood at 5,455,692 in 2021. The city is expected to surpass 7.5 million by 2050, with population pressure intensifying as early as 2030.

This surge will place additional strain on Accra’s already limited land resources and infrastructure.

The effects of this growth are already evident traffic congestion, expanding slums, waste management challenges, and an overcrowded central business district (CBD).

Accra’s population density currently stands at 1,200 people per square kilometer, significantly contributing to traffic congestion and overcrowding. On average, traffic across major highways in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area has increased between 2.5% and 14.8% per annum.

For many residents and workers in the capital, daily traffic congestion is a frustrating reality, affecting their ability to begin their daily routines on time.

“Being in traffic for long hours really gets me worried,” said Nana Baffour, a civil worker in Accra. “I stay at Sowutoum, which is not too far from my office—maybe a 45-minute drive. However, I spend close to two hours commuting every morning, which is very disturbing.”

Georgette Annoh, a student at the Ghana Law School in Makola, shared a similar concern: “I have sustained several burns on my legs from using motorbikes anytime I want to skip traffic to arrive on time.”

Accra’s rapid urbanization has led to an increased demand for transportation services. However, the explosive growth of motor vehicles has not been matched by the expansion of road infrastructure.

A lack of investment in mass transit systems, such as buses and trains, further exacerbates congestion levels.

Additionally, inadequate and substandard public transportation systems have left many residents with no choice but to rely on private vehicles due to issues of limited reach, reliability, efficiency, and quality.

As a multi-functional city serving as Ghana’s political, economic, and social hub, Accra continues to experience intense land pressure. This has resulted in the encroachment of green spaces and wetlands. The capital’s “pull effect” attracts people from rural areas in search of better living conditions, access to potable water, electricity, and quality education. However, the growing population has outpaced the supply of housing, leading to skyrocketing rent prices and an increase in slum settlements.

Naa Atswei, who lives in a slum along the Odaw River, explained her situation: “I migrated from my village for greener pastures in Accra, but I can’t afford rent. At least here, I don’t have to pay to stay.”

According to a UN Habitat report, slum dwellers make up 38.4% of Accra’s population and occupy about 15.7% of the city’s land area. As a result, parts of the city have become unsafe, with poor living conditions and inadequate infrastructure.

Accra’s perennial flooding, which leads to the loss of lives and destruction of property, is also linked to the population boom. The surge has led to improper spatial planning and unregulated developments in flood-prone areas. Poor waste management continues to be a major issue, contributing to increasing filth across the city.

Markets and business districts, particularly in Accra’s Central Business District (CBD), are struggling to accommodate the rising population. Overcrowding has reduced business efficiency, forcing traders to set up makeshift stands along major roads.

“I know very well that there’s no legal backing to sell on these roads,” said Enoch Attah, a trader. “But unemployment is high, and since there’s no space in Makola to accommodate me, I have no other option but to make a living this way.”

Currently, several areas in the CBD, such as Makola and Kantamanto, are no longer fit for purpose. Congestion, inadequate infrastructure, and informal trading have turned these once-thriving economic hubs into chaotic, high-risk zones. Informal markets, often plagued by overcrowding and fire hazards, need to be relocated to newly developed commercial zones.

The big question remains: How can we address these challenges arising from Accra’s growing population?

  1. Decentralization: The government needs to decentralize activities and create urban centres in all 16 regions of Ghana. This will prevent an over-concentration of people in the capital. Citizens must have access to premium education, potable water, good housing, and job opportunities in their respective regions.
  2. Planned Urbanization: Authorities must implement strict urban planning measures to control the unregulated expansion of Accra and mitigate the negative effects of rapid urbanization.
  3. Efficient Transport Systems: Ghana needs a comprehensive and efficient transport system. This includes railway networks, new road designs to accommodate high-occupancy buses, and improved public transport services that allow people to plan their travel without unnecessary delays due to traffic congestion. While overhead bridges may provide temporary relief, they often shift traffic congestion to the next intersection rather than solving the problem.
  4. Zoning Regulations: The city should implement zoning policies that discourage unnecessary travel to the CBD, making it expensive for people to commute to certain areas unless necessary.
  5. High-Rise Developments: Real estate developers should focus on constructing high-rise buildings rather than sprawling lateral structures. This will maximize land use and help accommodate the growing population more efficiently.

Accra is at a crossroads. While urbanization presents immense opportunities for growth and development, failure to address its accompanying challenges will lead to even greater congestion, poor living conditions, and inefficiencies. A well-planned city with efficient transport, proper zoning, and balanced development will be key to making Accra a livable and thriving city in the years to come.

Govt to inaugurate consultative committee to review petroleum sector

0

The Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, John Jinapor, has announced plans to establish a consultative committee to undertake a comprehensive review of Ghana’s petroleum sector.

Speaking during a meeting with the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, the minister noted that the committee will address critical concerns within the industry, ensuring that all stakeholders are considered in policy decisions.

John Jinapor indicated that a key issue on the agenda amongst others is the impact of foreign exchange (forex) on the operations of industry players which has been a source of concern.

“The key issue is to ensure that we have enhanced product security, and quality, safely, in a sustainable manner…we want to review the entire downstream petroleum sector and bring it to scratch so that it can be in conformity to modern trends. We will undertake a major review.

John Jinapor also disclosed that his ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, is currently reviewing the Gold for Oil policy.

“We are also reviewing the Gold for oil program as was promised in our manifesto and already the Minister of Finance is working on the gold aspect. He intends to set up what he describes as a Gold board. On our side too, we are reviewing it. If you see some work, it’s just an interim arrangement. You can’t truncate the process until you have a workable solution.

“The President himself is setting up another committee to help the whole sector so that we can have enhanced transparency and work. So the issue of forex will be dealt with. The issue of the Gold for oil will be worked and all the other agencies, we intend to take a holistic view of all the agencies,” he added.

The stakeholder meetings on February 4, 2025 provided an opportunity for the Energy and Green Transitions Minister John Jinapor to engage with key industry players, including the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, Tanker Owners Union amongst others.

‘Brainless Head, Classless and Brute’

0

Renowned policy analyst Franklin Cudjoe has joined the growing list of voices condemning the insulting remark made against Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings during a recent parliamentary session.

Cudjoe, the founder and president of IMANI Africa, took to Facebook to express his disgust over the matter. He wrote:

“Classless & brute. But for politics of theft & avarice, that brainless head that unfairly insulted Zanetor in Parliament could have become a raggamuffin. Who was that by the way?”

His statement comes in response to an unnamed MP, who reportedly called Dr. Zanetor “the daughter of a murderer”, a reference to her father, former President Jerry John Rawlings. The comment, which was made during a parliamentary session, has been widely criticized as inappropriate and offensive.

Cudjoe’s harsh rebuke suggests that political opportunism and corruption have elevated undeserving individuals into positions of power, where they misuse their platforms to spew insults rather than engage in meaningful discourse. His post also raises questions about the maturity and ethical standards of Ghana’s lawmakers.

This incident has reignited concerns about the toxic nature of political discourse in Ghana. Instead of focusing on pressing national issues such as the economy, education, and healthcare, some MPs are resorting to personal attacks and derogatory remarks.

In response to Cudjoe’s post, social media users echoed his sentiments, calling for Parliament to discipline the MP responsible and enforce higher standards of decorum. Some also pointed out that such behavior discourages young professionals from entering politics, as the environment appears hostile and undignified.

While Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has not publicly responded to the insult, many expect Parliament to take action to prevent such behavior from becoming the norm. Franklin Cudjoe’s scathing criticism serves as a reminder that politics should be about service, not insults.

Most Ghanaian ladies don’t understand benefit of flowers, blindly copy western culture – Opanka

0

Ghanaian rapper Dadie Opanka Ghanaian rapper Dadie Opanka

Ghanaian rapper Armstrong Affum, popularly known as Dadie Opanka, has disagreed with the common belief by some women that Ghanaian men are unromantic.

In an interview on Accra FM on February 6, 2025, Dadie Opanka argued that most Ghanaian women who demand flowers from their partners do not even fully understand the significance behind the gesture.

He explained that gifting flowers is not part of Ghanaian culture and emphasised that it should not be the standard for judging whether a man is romantic.

He added that women should focus on things they can truly benefit from instead.

“Sometimes, we shouldn’t blindly imitate what the Western world is doinng. Let’s be honest, what is the actual benefit of flowers? Are they going to plant them in their gardens or use them to decorate their homes? When you are abroad, it makes sense, but here in Ghana, it doesn’t because it’s part of someone else’s culture. The Westerners see the beauty in it, but it’s not necessarily something that resonates with us,” he said.

Dadie Opanka further stated that if Ghanaian women are going to embrace Western practices, they should also be open to the idea of splitting bills during dates, as many women in such countries would.

“If our women are complaining about these things, then when we go on dates, they should also agree to split the bills, because women abroad often do that. But here, if we suggest that women pay their share, they’ll call us stingy.

“The Westerners appreciate flowers, and they also appreciate the little things. But instead of asking for flowers, our women should focus on things they truly need, like wigs or rent money. If they expect flowers, then they should adopt the whole package, including splitting the bill like Western women do,” he added.

Plan International Ghana advocates for women empowerment to drive economic development

We created 64 child-friendly spaces and refurbished 28 for children under four.

‘If you live in the US, you’ll understand Trump’ – Opanka

0

Ghanaian rapper Opanka has shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s personality and some of his actions since he recently resumed office.

According to him, Trump isn’t as troublesome as many perceive.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM’s ‘Ayekoo Ayekoo’ on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Opanka explained that Donald Trump’s actions are usually driven by a desire to understand the people in the country.

Opanka made these comments while addressing the controversy surrounding Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and mass deportations, explaining that these measures were intended to control crime.

“Assuming someone enters the country undocumented and commits a crime, how would the authorities find such a person?” Opanka asked, stressing his point.

The US-based musician also pointed out that the illegal immigration crisis in the states is largely due to people entering the country not by air with visas, but mostly by land.

“If you live in the U.S., you’ll understand Trump. He’s trying to help the country. He’s just making life difficult for illegal immigrants,” he said,

Opanka clarified that Trump doesn’t have issues with those who are properly documented, “He is focused on criminals and bad actors. Many of those deported are on a wanted list.”

Opanka further urged netizens on social media to be cautious about misinformation online, advising them to verify facts before sharing.

Some NDC MPs plotted to vote against Ablakwa, Sam George in secret ballot

0

Frank Annoh-Dompreh is the MP of Nsawam Adoagyiri and the Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh is the MP of Nsawam Adoagyiri and the Minority Chief Whip

The Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has made allegations to the effect that the Minority caucus’ plot to block the approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Sam Nartey George, as the Minister of Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation had the backing of some MPs on the Majority caucus.

During parliamentary proceedings on February 4, 2025, to deliberate on the approval of ministerial nominees, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority caucus advocated for secret voting to determine the approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Sam Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation.

According to the Minority, there was a lack of consensus on the nominations of Ablakwa and Sam George, arguing that secret voting (a system in which MPs’ votes would be private) would be the most effective way of determining the fate of the nominees.

However, the Majority subsequently approved the two nominees after the Minority boycotted the process.

Detailing the behind-the-scenes events on Asempa FM on February 5, 2025, Annoh-Dompreh disclosed that some NDC MPs were allegedly prepared to vote against Okudzeto Ablakwa and Sam George if the secret voting had taken place.

He explained that the Minority caucus has sources within the Majority caucus who provide them with intelligence on their activities, which is how they obtained this information.

“… At that time, if we wanted to assemble our members, we would have. We also had intel on their side. There are times you give in to the vote, and times you don’t because we had intel. Some of the people were grumbling that we were going to vote against them. There was pressure from their side, and the presidency telling them to make sure to attain their numbers,” he said.

The Minority Chief Whip added that these MPs ultimately refrained from their plans due to alleged pressure from higher authorities and potential interests in gaining appointments.

“We had good intel from their side. Initially, there were a few of their people who said that they were going to vote against their own nominees, but then, when the whipping came from the Jubilee House, they all backtracked. That time, they were all waiting for appointments and lobbying, and you dare not go against the president’s nominee.”

Asked by the host how they would have known which MPs voted against their own party, Annoh-Dompreh responded, “If we had done the secret voting, we would have known because we know the number of NDC MPs, which is 187, including the independents. They may not know the individuals, but they have their intelligence and suspects.”

No transgender athletes at 2028 Olympic Games as Donald Trump issues executive order

0

US President, Donald Trump US President, Donald Trump

President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning transgender women from competing in female sports.

According to him, this executive action will be enforced during the 2028 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place in the US, thereby denying transgender athletes participation.

Trump indicated that his action aims to prevent transgender athletes from overpowering females in various competitions, as happened in previous Olympic Games.

“In Los Angeles in 2028, my administration will not stand by and watch men beat and batter female athletes. We’re not going to let it happen; it’s going to end, and it’s ending right now. Nobody will be able to do anything about it because when I speak, we speak with authority,” he told the US media.

Trump emphasized that his administration will engage the Olympic Committee and participating countries to ensure that transgender athletes are denied visas to the games.

He believes this move will maintain the sanctity of sports and safeguard the health of female athletes competing in the games.

“I’m directing our Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, to deny visa applications made by men attempting to fraudulently enter the US while identifying themselves as women athletes,” he added.

It’s worth noting that Trump promised to prevent males from participating in female sporting events if re-elected.

He expressed concerns that including transgender athletes in women’s sports damages competition integrity and needs addressing.

These comments came after Angela Carini withdrew from her bout against Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, allegedly transgender, at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Khelif’s participation sparked controversy, with many criticizing the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for allowing such person to compete.

NSA Equipment Seized in Eastern Ghana; Police Probe Underway

0

National Service Authority

A borehole drilling machine and a pickup truck belonging to Ghana’s National Service Authority (NSA) were reportedly confiscated by unidentified individuals last week in Osino, a community in the Eastern Region.

The incident, which occurred during routine operations, has left the agency scrambling to recover critical equipment essential for its water supply projects. Authorities confirmed the seizure but have yet to identify the perpetrators or determine a motive.

According to NSA officials, the machinery was actively deployed in Osino to support ongoing efforts to improve access to clean water in the area when it was abruptly taken. The agency reported the incident to local police, who have launched an investigation. No arrests have been made, and the whereabouts of the equipment remain unknown.

The seizure raises questions about the security of state-funded projects in rural regions, where infrastructure development often faces logistical and operational challenges. Borehole drilling machines are vital tools in Ghana’s push to address water scarcity, particularly in underserved communities like Osino. The NSA’s inability to immediately recover the equipment could delay projects affecting thousands of residents reliant on these initiatives.

Local leaders expressed concern over the disruption, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted access to water infrastructure. “This isn’t just about machinery—it’s about the health and livelihoods of our people,” said one community representative, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the ongoing probe.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, while the NSA has pledged to tighten security protocols for its assets. The incident underscores broader vulnerabilities in safeguarding public resources, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts between communities, law enforcement, and government agencies to protect critical development tools.

As investigations continue, residents and officials alike await answers—and action—to prevent further setbacks in Ghana’s quest for equitable water access.

Tension in Twifo Atti Morkwa NPP as constituency youth organiser allegedly bites off polling station secretary’s finger

0

A fact-finding mission by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the 2024 electoral defeat in the Twifo Atti Morkwa constituency of the Central Region turned bloody when the constituency youth organiser, Kwadwo Debrah, allegedly bit off a polling station secretary’s finger during an altercation.

Tension is currently high within the NPP in Twifo Atti Morkwa, with some party members calling for the expulsion of the officer involved and urging the police to take action.

The violent clash between the constituency youth organiser, Kwadwo Debrah, popularly known as “Last Two,” and the polling station secretary, Frank Kwaku Baah, occurred last Sunday during a meeting with a section of the party’s committee set up to investigate the party’s defeat.

The committee had visited the constituency to engage grassroots leaders in identifying factors that contributed to the loss and to recommend strategies for rebuilding the party.

Altercation

According to Frank Baah, some polling station executives at the meeting blamed the constituency executives for the party’s electoral defeat.

He alleged that Kwadwo Debrah, the constituency youth organiser, became agitated over some of the remarks and, without provocation, attacked him from behind by slapping him.

“The altercation turned bloody when Kwadwo Debrah bit off my finger, leading to severe bleeding and my hospitalisation at Twifo Praso Government Hospital,” Baah recounted.

He has since called for justice, stating that he has been left maimed.

“I’m still in shock and pain,” he said. “The party must take action against Debrah and ensure that he faces the consequences of his actions.”

The case has been reported to the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Police Command for further investigation, but no arrests have been made yet.
