Minority demands resignation of COCOBOD CEO over mismanagement

0

The Minority in Parliament is demanding the immediate resignation of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen Aidoo.

The Minority says Aidoo has mismanaged the cocoa sector and has worsened the plight of cocoa farmers. They argue that he is no longer fit to occupy the position of CEO.

Speaking to journalists in the Ashanti Region, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said the cocoa sector is collapsing despite an announcement of a 68 percent increase in the producer price.

“Clearly, something is amiss at COCOBOD because we are seeing the production of cocoa coming down to the lowest in the last fifteen years and we have also seen them recording massive losses since 2017. Last year, according to their own audit report, we declared a loss of GH¢2.4 billion in one year and so I don’t see why the CEO should be in office despite these happenings.”

The Minority has accused Aidoo of incompetence and corruption. They say he has failed to implement the necessary reforms to improve the cocoa sector.

The Minority has also accused the government of short-changing cocoa farmers by increasing the price of a bag of cocoa to GHC1,300.

According to the Minority caucus, cocoa farmers should have been given at least GHC2,500 per bag.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs Committee of Parliament, Eric Opoku, slammed the government for giving cocoa farmers “peanuts”.

He expressed worry over the price given to cocoa farmers, stressing that this season is a good year for cocoa farmers to benefit from their produce.

No Ghanaian will score EC’s performance 30% – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

0

Odododiodio MP, Nii Lante Vanderpuye

The Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has lashed out at the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding its handling of the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Mr. Vanderpuye’s critique primarily revolves around the persistent network challenges hampering the registration process.

Speaking in an interview, the former Sports Minister argued that if Ghanaians were to assess the EC’s performance based on their responsibilities, most would struggle to give EC even a 30% for their delivery.

“Operating on the law, every Ghanaian, almost all of us will not mark this even EC 30% on their delivery. Using the law, LI and all the regulations in the law that guide their activities,” he stated.

Mr. Vanderpuye claimed the Electoral Commission attempted to go behind the law to have its way.

“For example, in this registration exercise, which is our focus, right from day 1, the EC tried to entrench the issue of the usage of the national ID alone as against the vehemence of the minority in parliament. They couldn’t because they were not able to get their Constitutional Instrument (CI) through.

“But for that, that was what they wanted to do. Against the rationalisation of all Ghanaians that this is not possible and that cannot work,” he explained on Citi News.

“Anyone saying Juju killed Mohbad is primitive” Speedy Darlington gives his 2 cents in a recent live video

0

The tragic passing of Mohbad has brought forth various speculations and controversies surrounding the circumstances of his demise.

While his father suggested that it could have from an injection given to him from an auxiliariary nurse due to an ear infection, other theories have emerged, suggesting that there might be more to the story.

Comedian and artist , Speedy Darlington, has now stepped forward to share his opinion on the matter. In response to rumors that Juju might have played a role in Mohbad’s death, Speedy Darlington vehemently dismissed such notions, calling them “primitive.”

Speedy Darlington revealed that someone had informed him that Mohbad might have been a victim of voodoo or Juju after a performance.

However, he expressed his skepticism by pointing out that Juju is typically associated with targeting wealthy individuals, and Mohbad was still a struggling artist.

In his words, he questioned, “How much did the boy have?”

It’s important to recall that amidst these speculations, a video emerged yesterday, showing Mohbad being harassed by Naira Marley’s aide, Sam Larry.

The video quickly went viral, showing Mohbad in what appeared to be a wheelchair alongside fellow artist Zlatan. Sam Larry was seen striking Mohbad from behind, with Zlatan eventually intervening in the situation.

This incident led to an outcry from fans of the late singer, who demanded an explanation from Naira Marley’s camp regarding the incident. Many called for accountability and justice for Mohbad.

Samklef, another figure in the entertainment industry, added to the conversation by stating that Naira Marley had no involvement in Mohbad’s passing. He spoke the importance of not making emotional judgments in such sensitive situations.

While the controversies mount, it remains important to await official findings and avoid jumping to conclusions based on rumors or primitive beliefs.

ECG Declares War On Scrap Dealers

0

Mr. Otoo (in helmet) and a colleague pointing to one of the damaged switches

THE ELECTRICITY Company of Ghana (ECG) has sent a strong warning to scrap dealers and other “nation wreckers” who are vandalising their underground switchgears by removing their covers thereby exposing them to explosions.

The unscrupulous individuals have so far removed the protective covers of 15 underground switchgears withing in the Accra East region of ECG, costing a total of GH₵150,000 to replace them.

A switchgear which is usually installed close to transformers, is composed of electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuit breakers used to control, protect and isolate electrical equipment.

The company has so far recorded incidents of switch cover removals in areas like Cantonments, Ridge, Airport Residential Area and Osu, where it dominantly has underground distribution networks.

The Accra East Regional Manager of ECG, Bismark Otoo, speaking to the press, said the perpetrators are removing the covers placed on the switchgears and this weakens the insulations on them and with time the switches explode, resulting in power outage and can cause the electrocution of passersby.

He indicated that the vandalism was costing the company huge sums of money especially when there was a power outage as a result of an explosion of the switchgears.

“The real cost is in when there is outage and the customers are off, there is something we call unsold energy – when the generating companies have provided supply and we have not been able to sell them, because the supply is resting at our terminals, there is a cost we pay if a fault occurs which results in power outage,” Mr. Otoo stated.

He said the company has not been able to apprehend any perpetrator yet but their preliminary investigation reveal that scrap dealers are behind the vandalism.

“They see them to be metals so once they find them to be metals, they have that scrap value for them,” he said.

He said the company does not keep spare covers for the switches so when incidents of vandalism occur, they resort to their switches scrap yard where they recover covers of retired switches to replace the stolen one.

“Until this need came, we were not keeping them so it is becoming a bit challenging,” Mr. Otoo told the press.

He indicated that one sure way to secure the switches is to provide fences which is ongoing but the challenge is that they “cannot put them on a very tight lock and key because when the field operative needs to do any work he should have access.”

He disclosed that the company is working with the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book and also called on the general public to vigilant and be on the lookout.

“Amongst ourselves as a company, those our field men who go out, we have conscientized all of them to look out for these kinds of nation wreckers, the people who are trying to vandalise our systems. The information and education is still ongoing, we are trying to inform as many people as possible to be on the lookout to help us to bring these people to book,” Mr. Otoo added.

$170m approved loans will help gov’t in solving national issues – George Ayisi

0

George Ayisi

Member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) George Ayisi says the $170 million approved loans will help government focus on solving national issues.

Even though majority of Ghanaians are not happy with the borrowing habit of the government, Mr. Ayisi believes the government is on the right path.

“There are times you find yourself in a precarious situation that you may need some little push to stabilize your position and then have proper focus to deal with the situation properly.”

Bernard Oduro, a member of the NDC opposed Mr. Ayisi’s statement.

“From the financial economy point of view, it is not wrong to go into debts.”

Responding to Mr. Oduro, Mr. Ayisi said; “I disagree with him(Bernard Oduro) for claiming I’m defending the government for no good cause even though I’m not surprised at that.”

“There are certain areas that government will invest in that will generate phenomenal returns,” he added.

On May 2, 2023, Parliament approved an amount of $710 million loan at an emergency sitting in the absence of about fifteen minority members.

Actress Yvonne Jegede humbled as Regina Daniels’s husband, Ned Nwoko pays her a surprise visit

0

Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede was left humbled after Ned Nwoko, Regina husband paid her a surprise visit.

Sharing a video of his visit on her Instagram page, Yvonne revealed that she was greatly surprised and humbled by his presence. According to her, Ned Nwoko had stormed their movie location to specifically see her.

Appreciating him for the warm embrace, she wrote,

“@regina.daniels this was indeed a surprise. Indeed was humbled to know he came specifically to see me. Thanks to you and your family for the warm embrace “.

Yvonne Jegede spills on challenges of being a single mum

Last year, Yvonne Jegede had left many singing her praises after she disclosed that her ex-husband, Olakunle Fawole was a deadbeat father who hasn’t shown any form of support or interest in the life of their son, Xavier who turned 4 weeks ago.

Opening up in a conversation with Mercy Johnson on her cook show, Yvonne Jegede recounted how Olakunle Fawole only showed up once to see the child after she gave him an ultimatum of withdrawing his surname.

Going down memory lane on how they fell in love, Yvonne Jegede disclosed that he was an amazing friend but their marriage just didn’t work out.

Speaking about where the ex-lovers stands now, she said,

“Olakunle and I don’t talk now, he doesn’t call or talk to his son. It is funny how we once had a solid friendship aside from the marriage but I don’t know how it all went off the radar.

The first time he publicly accepted the son when he was 5 months old was when I gave him an ultimatum that I will remove his surname once the boy turns 5.

Thankfully, I had given him a compound name, Xavier Jegede Fawole, and I threatened that I will remove the Fawole and leave just the Jegede since I am solely raising him up.

That was what made him come then to carry the son when he was 5 months old, took photos and posted them on social media and since then no show”.

Cylinder recirculation model to operate alongside existing model

0

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has said that the implementation of the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) will operate concurrently with the existing distribution model until it is fully phased out.

The CRM involves refilling LPG cylinders at large refilling plants and subsequently supplying them to consumers at specialized retail outlets known as exchange points.

On the first day of implementation, a visit by Citi News to some LPG stations revealed that the implementation had not yet commenced.

The NPA explained that the refilling plants are at various stages of completion, causing a delay in the rollout.

Speaking to Citi News, Obed Kraine Boachie, the Head of Gas in Charge of Commercial Regulation at the NPA, indicated that consumers can still visit their LPG filling stations to refill their cylinders until exchange points are established in their communities.

“We are running the whole model side by side with the CRM. This means that you can still go to the refilling station where you have been filling your cylinders all this while and refill your cylinder to whatever quantity you want and take it home. Until you see an exchange point in your local area or vicinity and decide to go there and begin the cylinder exchange. From that point on, any time you are short of gas, you can go to that station and exchange your empty cylinder for a filled one,” he stated.

Chaos Erupts At Funeral As Son Opens Father’s Coffin, Urinates In The Grave

A burial in Bindura turned violent when family members engaged in a physical fight over the opening of the coffin. The incident occurred when one of the deceased man’s sons, identified as Diva, opened the casket at the burial site, enraging some of his relatives.

The deceased man’s son opened the coffin amid chants of his nickname, “Ngolo,” but failed to remove the cloth covering his late father’s face. Some male relatives tried to stop him, but others supported his decision, resulting in a violent altercation that lasted only a few minutes.

In a viral video, mourners can be heard shouting, “Siyai aone baba vake. Ona baba vako shamwari, musiyei aone baba vake. Pfeka mask,” which translates to “Let him see his father. See your father, friend, leave him to see his father. Wear a mask.” Diva responded, “ndibaba vangu,” meaning “he’s my father,” but was stopped by a relative.

After the confrontation, a relative sealed the coffin, but sources reported that Diva and his brother urinated inside the grave after the casket was lowered.

Volta NDC condemns Akufo-Addo’s silence on Akosmbo dam spillage

0

The Volta Region’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced deep disappointment and concern over President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s omission of the dire plight of victims of the Akusombo Dam Spillage in his 2024 State of the Nation’s Address.

President Akufo-Addo presented his penultimate SONA to Parliament on Tuesday, February 26, 2024, as required by Article 67 of Ghana’s Constitution.

The party described the address as a letdown for the people of the Volta Region who had been eagerly awaiting updates on promises made to alleviate their predicaments following the disaster.

The recent flood disaster, intensified by spillages from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, caused severe damage to communities in the Volta and other regions, displacing numerous families and destroying livelihoods.

Additionally, the tidal waves’ onslaught in the southern municipalities of Anlo, Keta, and Ketu South has increased the people’s suffering, leaving them vulnerable and in urgent need of aid.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party said “It is deeply regrettable that amidst these precarious challenges, the President chose not to acknowledge or offer solutions to alleviate the suffering of our fellow citizens.

“The absence of any mention of relief efforts or plans to mitigate the effects of the disaster in the 31-page SONA is a glaring oversight that reflects a deliberate lack of empathy and commitment to the well-being of these countrymen.”

“What is equally displeasing is the President’s mention of a non-existent project like the Keta Fish Landing Site on page 22 of his presentation. We want to once again put on record that there is no such project in Keta or any other place in the Volta Region. The President should learn to insulate himself from always being misled by doing due diligence in getting accurate information on such crucial matters.”

The Volta NDC urged the President to promptly address the issue and prioritize the needs of those affected by the flood disaster and tidal waves. We call for immediate action to provide relief aid, rehabilitate affected communities, and implement sustainable measures to prevent future occurrences.

“In fulfilling the constitutional obligation to address the nation, it is imperative that the President demonstrates leadership by acknowledging and responding to the pressing concerns of all citizens, irrespective of tribe, location or voting pattern,” it added.

GRA to ensure refund to entities wrongfully charged E-levy

0

In the wake of recent internet disruptions, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has been compelled to address concerns regarding the erroneous imposition of E-Levy on certain electronic transactions.

According to the GRA, the interruption in internet connectivity impacted the real-time routing of electronic transactions to the Electronic Transfer Levy Management and Assurance System (ELMAS), prompting GRA to take decisive action to rectify the situation.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by the internet outage, GRA has implemented measures to alleviate the adverse effects on the E-Levy collection process.

Firstly, temporary procedures have been established to address delayed transactions, aptly termed “Offline Transactions”.

These interim measures ensure that E-Levy is levied only on eligible transactions, even if there is a delay in routing due to the internet disruption.

Furthermore, GRA is committed to rectifying any wrongful charges that may have occurred during this period. It recognizes that some Charging Entities may have erroneously deducted E-Levy for transactions that are exempt from such charges.

In response, GRA is collaborating closely with Charging Entities to facilitate the swift identification and reimbursement of wrongful deductions.

The GRA in a statement added that charging entities bear the responsibility of reimbursing customers for any E-Levy charges incorrectly applied, following the completion of GRA’s processes on refund requests.

Through these proactive steps, GRA aims to ensure a seamless and fair E-Levy collection process, despite the challenges posed by internet disruptions.

Jada Pinkett Smith says Will Smith hadn’t called her ‘wife’ in ‘a long time’ when 2022 Oscars slap occurred –

0

For Jada Pinkett Smith, the shock of seeing Will Smith slap Chris Rock at the  2022 Academy Awards was two-fold.

The dramatic incident occurred right after Chris made the joke, “Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,” which prompted the 52-year-old actress, who suffers from alopecia, to roll her eyes. Moments later, after Chris quipped that it was “a nice [joke]” after being met with some uncomfortable reaction from the audience, he saw Will make his way onto the stage.

“I did that eye roll not so much for me, and I think this is really important, but the fact that there could be a jab at alopecia,” Jada says in a new teaser for her upcoming sit-down interview with Hoda Kotb.

In a sneak peek of the interview, which aired Friday morning on the Today Show, Jada explains what was going through her head at the time as Will shouted, “keep my wife’s name out your f**king mouth” at the 58-year-old comedian. Jada recently revealed that she and Will have, in fact, been separated since 2016.

“First of all, I’m really shocked because, mind you, I’m not there — we haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time,” she shares. “I’m like, ‘What is going on right now?’”

As for the slap, Jada says she was “really worried for Will,” who took home an Oscar that night for his role in King Richard, and that the outburst was wildly out of character for him.

While clips from the nominated acts played for broadcast viewers at home, Jada says that Chris attempted to make contact with her in the audience.

“Chris looks to me and he says, ‘Jada, I meant you, I meant no harm,’” she recalls. “I’m just out of it because I’m really worried about Will.”

At that point, Jada claims, Will was “still talkin.’”

“Now he’s mad because Chris is talking to me,” she says. “And I go, ‘Chris, this is about some old s**t.’ That’s all I could think to say, right. And I couldn’t really take in his apology.”

Jada speculates that the issue may have stemmed from the “false narrative” she says she created in 2020 to explain her romantic relationship with August Alsina. At the time, Jada and Will sat down with one another on her Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk, for an emotional conversation.

“My honest opinion about that is that narrative,” she says of the slap, “had more to do with the false narrative that I helped to create on the Red Table.”

She continues, channelling the headlines that followed them that year: “‘The adulttress wife who forced him to go to the table and sit there,’ you know what I mean? ‘And now, look at what she’s done. She has the power with an eye roll to make him go up and slap somebody on stage.’”

Will and Jada’s relationship has been recently thrust into the spotlight recently as Jada revealed to Hoda that she and Will have been separated for seven years. “Yes, it was not a divorce on paper, but it was a divorce,” Jada said in a preview for the interview published on Oct. 11, ahead of the Oct. 17 release of her memoir, Worthy.

The actress disclosed that she and Will, 55, have been leading “completely separate lives” since 2016, even though they never officially divorced. The couple got married on Dec. 31, 1997.

As for their joint public appearances on red carpets and social media in the years since, a source tells ET, “What you see is the loving way they choose to move

Education Minister to meet GTEC, UG management, others over new fees

0

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutuwm is scheduled to meet management of some public universities, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) over agitations that have met the increase in fees.

The student body is protesting the move by the University of Ghana to defy the directive by Parliament instructing universities to increase fees by 15%. The management has however justified its decision.

Speaking to Citi News on the matter, the Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng said he’s hopeful that a consensus would be arrived at the meeting on Thursday, January 5.

“The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, has once again intervened and has invited the universities in question. We have the University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and some other public universities. So we have extended invitation to them, hopefully, we will meet them together with GTEC this Thursday [January 5, 2023]. The entire aim is to be able to find a lasting solution or resolve this issue,” the Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry.

He however insists that the various universities must comply with the directive by Parliament which is backed by the law.

“What is most important is that the law is clear, the law has provided the framework upon which fees should be charged. Parliament has done their work, so the expectation was that if there was any contrary view or disagreement, recourse is made to the law. In issues like this, it is not only about enforcement per se, but sometimes compliance is also very important. So when Parliament, the legislative arm of government makes a decision backed by law, and we have a university that goes contrary with the decisions, the other question is what happened to compliance,” Mr. Kwarteng stated.

GTEC had directed all public tertiary institutions to review fees for the next academic year by a maximum 15 percent increment.

The directive followed numerous complaints that some universities were charging more than the 15% Rate Approved by Parliament, hence the intervention by GTEC.

Novak Djokovic beats Jannik Sinner to win title

The Serb, 36, who lost to the Italian in the group stage, avenged that with a 6-3 6-3 win in Turin, Italy.

“One of the best seasons I’ve had in my life, no doubt,” Djokovic said.

“It’s very special. To crown it against a hometown hero in Jannik this week is phenomenal,” he added in comments to Amazon Prime.

“Tactically I played differently today than in the group stage against Jannik. Overall, a phenomenal week.”

Before the singles final, there was British success in the doubles when Joe Salisbury and American partner Rajeev Ram retained their title with a straight-set win over Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.

Djokovic ‘steps it up’ against Sinner

World number one Djokovic had been tied with Roger Federer on six ATP Finals title wins, but it was clear from the outset in Sunday’s final that he was hungry to take the outright record.

He established control with an early break and dropped just two points on his serve in an almost flawless display to take the opening set.

A break to love in the opening game of the second set put Djokovic further ahead and made Sinner’s dream of becoming the event’s first Italian champion in front of a noisy home crowd seem impossible.

Sinner’s first break-point chances came in the sixth game of the second set when he went 15-40 on the usually impenetrable Djokovic serve, but the 24-time Grand Slam champion swiftly snuffed out the threat by forcing his opponent into errors from the back of the court.

Djokovic had the chance to go a double break up in the following game but, in a rare moment of fallibility, instead missed a straightforward volley before Sinner held with an ace.

But he got his chance in the Italian’s next service game, with Sinner tamely handing over victory with a double fault on Djokovic’s first match point.

It was a far cry from the Italian’s performance against the Serb on Tuesday, when a victory in three sets ended Djokovic’s 19-match winning streak.

But this was also a different Djokovic to then, with the Serb building on the brilliant performance he put in against world number two Carlos Alcaraz in Saturday’s semi-finals to deliver an outstanding display underpinned by him winning a huge 91% of first-serve points.

“The way Carlos and Jannik have been playing, I had to step it up,” said Djokovic, who must now surely go into next season as favourite to dominate yet again and strive for yet more records.

Djokovic hits another milestone in a record-setting year

This year has been full of records for Djokovic and so it seems only fitting that his tour season should end with another at an event where he was already its oldest champion.

Sunday’s victory pulled him ahead of Federer for titles won at the ATP Finals, while he was confirmed as year-end men’s world number one for a record-extending eighth time earlier in the tournament.

This year he also surpassed Steffi Graf’s record for the most weeks spent at the top of the singles rankings, with his tally now about to stand at 400 from Monday.

Djokovic won three of this season’s four Grand Slam singles titles to overtake Rafael Nadal’s men’s tally of 22 and draw level with Australian Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24.

That included a record-extending 10th title at the Australian Open – which is where in January he will get the chance to become the outright record holder with a 25th major.

His French Open victory in June made him the only man to win a career Grand Slam – all four major titles – three times.

And this year he also set a record for most Grand Slam final appearances with 36, two more than Chris Evert’s previous mark, and earlier this month he won a record-extending seventh Paris Masters trophy for a record-extending 40th Masters title.

While his tour season is over, Djokovic’s playing season continues next week at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, Spain, where he will lead Serbia in their quarter-final against Great Britain on Thursday.

VRA begins fumigation exercise in Mepe as flood waters recede –

0

The Volta River Authority (VRA), has initiated a major disinfection and fumigation exercise in communities affected by the controlled spill of the Akosombo Dam.

The disinfection exercise began in Mepe in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, since it has the highest concentration of affected people.

The VRA’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Ing. Kwame Osei Mensah Darkwa, emphasised the VRA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and habitability of homes, public spaces, and the entire community following the floods.

“The VRA contracted Zoomlion to carry out the fumigation and decontamination exercises in the areas where the water has receded significantly to make it safe for habitation again. So essentially we have the assembly represented by the safety officer, a representative from the traditional council, a Chief Executive and the intention is to go to the areas we’ve inspected and we want them to be dry for them to start some form of decontamination of the place.”

Asked whether all other districts affected by the flooding would also be fumigated, Ing. Dankwa said “Of course, when it becomes necessary. So we are looking at it, for today our intention is to tackle the Mepe area.”

The District Chief Executive of the North Tongu Assembly, Divine Osborne Fenu, commended the VRA for its prompt disinfection exercise. He expressed contentment with the Authority’s consistent and quick response to the plight of the affected victims.

He, however, urged residents to await the completion of the fumigation exercise before returning to their homes.

“We are appealing to all of them to remain calm, to stay where they are currently. Until those places are fumigated and the structural engineering inspection is done to ensure that the buildings are safe before they move in.”

Mahama enstooled Development Chief in Ketu North

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians especially the youth to vote wisely in the 2024 general elections.

Describing the 2024 elections as the most critical election in Ghana’s history, he urged electorates to vote massively for the NDC.

“It will determine whether we continue on the slippery path of fake promises, or we take a new trajectory and have people who will come and serve with integrity and patriotism so that we can get our country out of the economic crisis in which it is,” the former President said.

Mr. Mahama said this while addressing the chiefs and people in the Ketu North Municipality at this year’s Penyi Nugoryiza durbar.

He bemoaned Ghana’s present economic situation and said the current administration has imposed “severe hardships” on citizens.

Dr James Klutse Avedzi, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, who was also present at the ceremony asked sympathizers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to “repent” and join the NDC.

“Mahama is coming to correct all the wrongs of the NPP so we can have our lives back,” Dr Avedzi said.

Mr Edem Agbana, NDC parliamentary candidate for Ketu North said the current leadership had failed the young people, most of whom were without jobs.

He therefore appealed to constituents to ensure NDC returns to power after the 2024 polls to ease their stress.

Mr. Mahama was also enstooled as the Development chief with the title ‘Togbi Dunenyo |, the Nugoryifia at the ceremony.

You can’t force media houses to be fair; endure, enjoy or tune out! – Gabby –

0

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that a media house can choose to be partisan and unprofessional in their ways as much as politicians can resort to drag them to appropriate quarters or call them out through other channels.

According to Gabby, aggrieved parties can either go to court and sue for whatever reliefs or report such media houses to the National Media Commission (NMC).

He adds that if an aggrieved party refuses to take the two formal options, they have three others, to boycott the channel, to enjoy the programme or to tune out.

His comments come in the wake of an invasion of privately-owned UTV by hooligans affiliated with the NPP, on October 7; which incident has been condemned by the party and government even though widespread condemnation of the invasion has festered.

“A radio station or TV show has no obligation to be impartial. In fact some even choose to lie and insult. You may call them out, complain to NMC or sue them. But, you can’t FORCE them to be fair. Endure, enjoy or tune out!” Gabby wrote in a Facebook post dated October 9, 2023.

The NPP hooligans went to the station to protest the manner in which an entertainment show had become political and was always bashing government because of the perceived panel composition.

The United Showbiz programme had been the subject of controversy after the NPP wrote to UTV to reform the programme.

A copy of their letter was ripped on live TV by panelist A Plus, in part triggering the invasion which led to the arrest of 16 people who have since been bailed.

In a related post, Gabby said any media outfit reserves the right to use its platform to attack political parties at the risk of losing its credibility.

“A TV station is always free to use its platform(s) to attack a political party without giving that party a right to reply. Yea, if that station is ok losing credibility in the eyes of Ghanaians. The party has every right to call that station out, loudly but decently,” he added.

The Johnsons series actor, Charles Inojie, has sent a strong message to Nigerians following a trending video about Ifeanyi Okowa’s daughter begging for votes.

A trending online video captured Okowa’s daughter, who is campaigning for Delta state assemblies under the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), begging the supporters of Labour party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to redeem her and PDP on the 11th of March.

Sharing the video on his Instagram page, Charles Inojie urged Nigerians to stay humble by not writing off anybody.

The Johnsons star actor also threw a jab at the PDP for claiming they are a party with the ‘Largest Structure in Africa’ and soliciting votes from the supposed ‘lazy’ youths.

He wrote, “I sorry for who no fear life…
In dis life, neva write anybody off.
Who for eva beliv say PARTY WITH THE LARGEST STRUCTURE IN AFRICA will one day beg 4 jobless youths twittering from a room for its own survi?
Just be humble becos life happens to all and sundry.”

Yul Edochie calls for unity of Nigerians

Kemi Filani recalls that Yul Edochie called for unity amongst Nigerians when he admonished tribalism in the country.

Yul Edochie recounted his favourable experiences in Lagos state, which included, building a house, living for over a decade and the accommodating spirit of the Yorubas.

He wrote, “I’ve lived in Lagos since 2011
Built my house in Lagos.
Not once have I experienced any form of hate or rejection from the Yorubas.
Anytime Yoruba boys see me on the street, they gather to greet me, and it’s all love always.
And this talk flying around that Lagos is a no man’s land is wrong.
Lagos is a Yoruba state in Yoruba land.
Imagine someone saying that Anambra is a no man’s land. That’s crap.
Anambra is an Igbo land.
You can’t come into someone’s land and tell that person it’s now a no man’s land.
Na you dey find trouble.
Nobody can deny the fact that the Igbos have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos.
Other tribes have contributed in their own ways too.
And the Yorubas have been largely accommodating as well.
It shouldn’t take away the fact that Lagos is a Yoruba land. We no dey drag ownership.
Let’s kill tribalism before it kills us.

GHAMRO should be closed down – Akosua Agyapong

Veteran Highlife musician, Akosua Agyapong, is urging the office of the Attorney General (A-G) to shut down the Ghana Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

This according to her is because the interim management committee with Rex Omar as Chairman, is working illegally as its mandate is not backed by any law.

In an interview with Graphic on Tuesday, May 23, the ‘Kokooko’ hitmaker pointed out that the office of the A-G had not renewed GHAMRO’s licence, and that those at the helm of affairs had no business running the organisation.

“The good office of the Attorney General hasn’t renewed GHAMRO’s licence due to court issues. Some of our people actually took the interim management committee to court and the judge asked them to step down for new elections to be held.

“But before that, a Mediation Board led by Madam Esi Sutherland-Addy was instituted and they asked us to do three things—amend our constitution, conduct an audit of our accounts and hold elections.

“However, as of this time, no elections have been held and we have Rex Omar and his team still manning affairs without any legal mandate. My argument is that the interim management or board’s licence was not renewed because we didn’t fulfil all the three requirements by the Mediation Board,” she said.

Akosua Agyapong told Graphic that, it was unfair for her critics to reduce her present positioning to a hate campaign against Rex Omar when she was only seeking for the right thing to be done.

Although GHAMRO is a collective management organisation (CMO) and not a welfare group, it is mandated by its constitution to allocate 10 per cent of the money received as royalties to cater for the welfare of musicians.

“When I talk, people think that I’m just making empty claims and unfounded allegations but they don’t know that I’m taking my information from GHAMRO’s 2021 annual report sent to members.

“At the moment, it is required that GHAMRO uses 10 per cent of its money received as royalties for the welfare of musicians. From the 2021 report, those who are managing the fund are paid GH₵72,000 annually; yet, members in dire need don’t get assistance.

“That is not all. The same report mentioned that the interim management committee used GH₵132,000 for refreshment and sitting allowances. The committee sits four times a year.

“The report also showed that they buy new cars and computers every year. But what really intrigues me the most is that those who collect the royalties (spinners) are paid a whopping GH₵433,000 yearly. How much is the musician who is the creator of the content even paid?” she asked.

There was no official list making it difficult to tell if legitimate members received their royalties.

“They claim that musicians are 4000 and I’ve asked them to get an official list of members so that we know who is receiving royalties. I’m bringing this out because I met Ambolley at a programme recently and he mentioned that he didn’t receive the last payment that came in December last year.

“Also, per the Legislative Instrument (LI), whatever money is collected, members need to know, as well as what is due us. Part of the LI says that musicians need to be paid every six months but since 2015 till date, GHAMRO does what it wants. Honestly, we don’t know the money that they share,” she added.

Akosua Agyapong said she would continue to ask the relevant questions and call for the right things to be done since Rex Omar also demanded accountability from previous administrations when he was not happy with how they were handling the affairs of the organisation.

Nigerian lady who wore black dress for her white wedding finally reveals reason for action

0

Earlier this year, a 24-year-old Plateau indigene, Lisa-Rinret Moses-Scouty, made headlines after she stormed her ‘white wedding’ in an all-black dress in an Evangelical Church Winning All, Jenta Mangoro branch in Jos.

Now opening up on the reason for the action, the new bride, Lisa-Rinret in a chat with Godfrey George claimed her husband was in full support of it.

“This is because I am black and not white (laughs). That is on a lighter note. I don’t know if there is a set rule that a white dress must be worn for a wedding. I see the wedding day as a day of joy and so a person should go ahead to do what makes them happy on that day.

For the record, black is my favourite colour. If I had worn any other colour other than the black dress I wore, I am not sure the day would have been joyful for me. This is because I will just be doing what others are doing, and that is one thing I am not known for. I always like doing things differently; I love changing the narrative. I believe someone used a white dress for her wedding and other saw it and copied it. So, I feel it is only fair to allow every bride use her choice of colour for her big day, hence my use of black.”

When asked if her husband was aware of her decision, Lisa-Rinret responded saying “My husband was fully aware. At first, I was looking for a way to tell him I didn’t want a white gown for my wedding but I didn’t have the courage to, for fear of what he might say. But, one day, when we were making plans for the wedding, he brought up a random talk, saying he would be more than happy if I wore a black dress on our wedding day. I was not sure I heard him clearly. He repeated it, “Do you know how happy you will make me if you wore a black dress for me on that day?”

My joy knew no bound that day. I had already bought a white material and my friend was already working on a white gown, but with this new development, I immediately called her to hold on with that. We had to go buy a black material and made that instead of the white one we had earlier planned to use. His uncle was also aware of the arrangement and didn’t object to it.

Nigerian lady, Lisa-Rinret who wore black dress for her white wedding finally reveals reason for action

On why her husband did not wear a wedding suit as well, she said “It was a plan. We both wanted something different, something different from the norm. My husband is not the suit kind of person. For the period of about three years that I knew him closely, and even the times I saw him from afar, he rarely wore a suit. In fact, I have never seen him in a suit. I even thought he would wear a T-shirt with a jean and a pair of sneakers for our wedding. It was amazing to see him ‘rock’ that agbada.

On the belief that the colour black comes with bad omen and should only be worn for mourning, she responded saying “I feel that what you believe in works accordingly for you. So, if colour black comes with a bad omen for others, fine. For me, black symbolises power, boldness, elegance, strength and sophistication.

I have seen people wear white to attend funerals recently. Should I say that they are rejoicing over their loss? People who say that should please go back and check the meaning of the colour, black. Even if black means “bad omen”, it is what some people sat down and decided. Does that mean that we, Africans, are a bad omen because we have black skin? Don’t you see how that argument is flawed? God made all these colours and I chose one of the colours to be my favourite. What is wrong with that, please?

Debunking the claims that she settled for a black dress because she couldn’t afford a white wedding dress, the new bride said “No, it wasn’t. I would have rented a white gown or sewn one, but then, I would not have been as happy as I was on my big day. The black lace I used was in no way compared to the white I had earlier bought, but my love for black was more.

She concluded by revealing how she was able to convince her bridal train to rock the black dress with her “They are my friends and they were there to celebrate with me. This means they will do anything possible to see me happy on my big day. I didn’t need any convincing. I just told them I would love them to wear black to my wedding and I got the material for them. They didn’t know I was going to be wearing a black dress, too. It was a secret between me, my fiance then, and my friend who made the outfit.”

‘I Deserve To Win Ballon D’Or’

0

Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has said he deserves to be one of the candidates to win the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.

After scoring the winner for France in their 1-0 victory over Greece on Monday, Mbappe became the best French scorer over a season with 54 goals for club and country, surpassing the mark set by Just Fontaine in 1957-58.

Mbappe, 25, helped Paris Saint-Germain retain the Ligue 1 title this year and also impressed at the World Cup by winning the Golden Boot and scoring a hat trick in the final against eventual winners Argentina.

When asked about whether he should be considered for this year’s Ballon d’Or, Mbappe told TF1, “It’s always difficult to talk about an individual trophy, because you have to put yourself forward on your own and that’s something that doesn’t necessarily pass in the eyes of the general public.

“The new criteria, it’s about burning eyes, it’s someone who has had an impact … I think I correspond to these criteria, so I would say…yes. But we’ll see.”

Mbappe’s future is up in the air this summer after the forward sent a letter to PSG stating that he had no intention of extending his contract, which expires in 2024.

ESPN reported that Real Madrid are interested in signing him this summer, but Mbappe said he has his sights set on staying in France next season.

Music streaming in Ghana low because of expensive data – Bulldog –

0

Artsite Manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson known popularly as Bulldog believes music streaming suffers in Ghana because data is too expensive.

He says apart from data being expensive, Ghana has one of the worst internet in the world so it’s difficult for music lovers to even stream music online.

Bulldog was speaking on Accra-based TV3 when he made this known.

“Nobody is sitting in Tarkwa or wherever where the network is even bad there will stream your music. Look we are in Accra and you know Accra is the hub and everybody make wild dey go find something. How many people will be streaming music?

But out there, let’s say in the other regions if they are relaxing and they want to stream music the thing will not even stream and you’ll see nor kpa your 10 cedis worth of data is gone. Who will try that thing?

Let’s talk about the matters and these are facts. Check your streams and you’ll know all is from outside. If you check, the reason why we don’t stream our music is because data is expensive. If the artistes are genuine with their analytics, they will tell you that most of their streams are from outside. Ghanaians living in the diaspora,” he said.

Tuchel Quits Bayern At End Of Season

0

Thomas Tuchel

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel will leave at the end of the season, the club announced on Wednesday.

Tuchel’s future had been subject to ongoing speculation with the club eight points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern have lost their past three games — twice in the Bundesliga at the hands of Leverkusen and Bochum, and also a 1-0 defeat by Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie last week.

It was the first time that Bayern have lost three competitive games in a row since May 2015, when they had already won the Bundesliga title.

“We have agreed that we will end our working relationship at the end of this season. Until then, I will of course continue to do everything I can with my coaching staff to achieve maximum success,” Tuchel said in a statement.

Should Bayern fail to make up the ground on Leverkusen, it would be the first time since the 2011-12 season that they have not won the domestic title.

Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern manager last March despite the club being just one point off the top of the Bundesliga and still in the Champions League.

He led them to the league title last season, but only secured the silverware on the final day after Borussia Dortmund’s failure to beat Mainz allowed Bayern to leapfrog them.

The summer saw Bayern Munich recruit Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur on a deal which could be worth up to €120 million ($131m), and Kim Min-Jae from Napoli for €50m ($55m). But that window also saw Lucas Hernández, Ryan Gravenberch, Benjamin Pavard and Sadio Mané all leave.

Bayern started the season well but have recently struggled to keep pace with Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, losing four times and drawing twice in 22 games so far.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), yesterday picked number two on the ballot for the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

He followed the MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who picked number one on the ballot for the contest that promises to be keen.

The NPP Presidential Elections Committee (PEC), which announced this yesterday in a statement, said Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto will be third on the ballot for the presidential primaries.

He will be followed by Francis Addai-Nimoh, former MP for Mampong, the statement issued and signed by the committee’s Secretary, William Yamoah, indicated.

The PEC said it collaborated with officials from the Electoral Commission of Ghana, to successfully conduct the balloting for the contestants.

The statement said this was after a productive interactive session the PEC held yesterday with the four candidates for the party’s primaries.

The statement indicated that the committee also reached a consensus with all the contestants on the modalities for the conduct of the November 4 polls.

“The Presidential Elections Committee will release the details of the agreed guidelines and modalities for the November 4 election in due course,” the statement noted.

The committee expressed gratitude to the contestants for their continuous cooperation and collaboration.

The balloting for the four contestants comes after one of the flagbearer hopefuls, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, withdrew from the race to become presidential candidate of the party on September 5, 2023.

Alan, who placed third in the party’s recently held Super Delegates’ election, claimed the contest had been skewed in favour of one candidate.

According to him, his supporters were intimidated at the recent Super Delegates’ Conference, adding that he came to that conclusion after closely analysing the outcomes of the said elections.

Referencing his public statement issued on August 27, 2023, Mr. Kyerematen said the pronouncements made by some leading members of the NPP both before and after the elections, also lend weight to his observations.

“The level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of delegates at various voting centres across the 16 regions, is unprecedented in the history of our party,” he said in a statement.

In a recent address at the funeral of the late John Tia Akologo, former Minister of Information, in Duusi, Talensi District of the Upper East Region, John Dramani Mahama, the 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring peaceful elections in December.

Mr Mahama emphasised that the NDC has historically emerged victorious in elections conducted under peaceful conditions.

He underscored the party’s dedication to peace but also warned against any attempts to manipulate or rig the elections.

The NDC flagbearer urged the clergy to go beyond preaching about peace and advocate for justice, which he believes is essential for maintaining a peaceful electoral process.

The former President stressed the importance of fairness and transparency in the electoral system.

Mr Mahama made it clear that any violence that may occur during the electoral process would not originate from the NDC.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to peaceful and democratic means of contesting elections, urging supporters to remain vigilant and uphold the principles of democracy.

As the December elections draw closer, he pledged to prioritise peace and justice in the electoral process reflecting the NDC’s commitment to fostering a democratic and stable political environment in Ghana.

“We expect that the elections will be peaceful because we know we’re going to win. If there’s going to be violence, it will not come from us, the NDC. But I will crave our Reverend Fathers when you preach about peace, also preach about justice because when there’s no justice, there is no peace.

“We are for peace, but we will resist any attempts to rig this election. I assure Reverend Father that we will play our part to have a free, fair and transparent election. And we believe that God will rescue our country from the crisis we find ourselves in,” he stated.

Public Enterprises Secretariat to dispose of unused assets of defunct SOEs

0

The Minister for Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe, has disclosed that the Public Enterprises Secretariat would be collaborating with the Ministry of Finance and State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) to dispose of unused assets of defunct State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) which are deteriorating on a daily basis.

The move, the Minister said will stop the unproductive cost government incurs on keeping such assets, adding that the Secretariat intends to request Cabinet appro to this effect.

Speaking at a press Soirée, Mr. Cudjoe said the Ministry seeks to embark on a special programme that would improve the business development capabilities of the SOEs, in the light of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to achieve revenue growth.

According to him, the framework for oversight is expected to be significantly improved by strengthening SIGA’s oversight of the SOEs.

The Minister said snakes and rats have taken over most of the assets of defunct SOEs in the country, a situation he described as disturbing.

“When we drive and walk around, we can see a lot of enterprises that have collapsed. When you visit the enterprises’ sites belonging to the State of the Republic of Ghana, you will only meet rats and maybe if you are lucky, you’ll see snakes. Certainly, you can point your finger at one company sitting in the bush which belongs to the State. But SIGA incurs costs in safeguarding these assets which do not bring in any revenue,” the Minister for Public Enterprises said.

Eleblu Endorses Bawumia –

0

Dr. John Saviour Yaw Eleblu

A parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Dr. John Saviour Yaw Eleblu, has endorsed the presidential candidacy of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the Saturday polls.

In a statement released yesterday, he cited Dr. Bawumia’s experience in government, including his role in digitisation of the sectors of the economy, as evidence of his leadership qualities.

“I believe that Dr. Bawumia’s experience as Vice President over the years, humility, loyalty to the party, and leadership skills make him the best man to lead the NPP to break the 8,” he stated.

Dr. Eleblu, who is a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, said the Vice President is well-positioned to lead the country with his familiarity with the issues of the country, besides being the most marketable person.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s election will also attract more people from the country’s north and Zongo communities into the party for victory in 2024.

“He will also help to bridge the north and south divide as well as the Christian-Muslim gap, since Dr. Bawumia is accepted in all circles,” the MP aspirant intimated.

“I am appealing to other flagbearer hopefuls in the party to step down for Dr. Bawumia to ensure a smooth victory for the NPP in the 2024 general election,” he added.

The endorsement comes at an opportune time for Bawumia, who has continuously maintained a high profile throughout the campaign period to the election on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Dr. Eleblu has assured the NPP and his constituents that he will provide transformational leadership in the areas of service, transparency, integrity, and honesty when elected.

“I will change our constituency into an agricultural hub to feed North Tongu and the entire country and also for export,” he said.

Dr. Eleblu said he intended to establish business development centres in all electoral areas to support residents to create businesses and wealth.

He also plans to facilitate the creation of three TVET facilities in the constituency to train the youth to be entrepreneurs, as well as enabling qualified youth in the party to seek admission to tertiary institutions.

For Dr. Eleblu, he is the right man to unseat Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who has been MP for 11 years now.

“I have what it takes to beat the NDC, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and change the narrative of NPP in North Tongu,” he posited.

“Our target is to get 30,000 votes in North Tongu and we have mapped out many complementary strategies to achieve this. The first is our membership drive to register a minimum of 10,000 members,” he disclosed.

Who is Dr. Eleblu?

Dr. Eleblu is the son of a former independent parliamentary candidate in the North Tongu, Christopher Kofi Eleblu, who previously worked as the Director of Internal Audit at the Ministry of Health.

On a fully sponsored scholarship from the University of Ghana and the French Embassy in Ghana, he got a PhD in Plant Biology from the Université Paris Sud 11, Orsay, France, after graduating in BSc and MPhil degrees in Agricultural Science from the University of Ghana.

He is currently a senior lecturer at the Biotechnology Centre and the Coordinator of Research Programmes at the University of Ghana’s West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI).

He has served as the principal investigator on many scientific research projects and has managed project teams to train over 4,000 farmers and 300 extension workers across West Africa.

She went on to say that due to her boyfriend’s ‘foolish’ fantasy, he was always eating beans so he could be able to fart for her to smell.

Owusu-Bempah’s claim on Atuabo gas plant processing ‘almost 150 million cubit feet’ factually inaccurate –

0

The claim made by the Head of Corporate Communications at the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, Mr. Ernest Owusu-Bempah, that the Atuabo processing plant is “doing almost 150 million cubic feet” under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is likely to be incorrect.

“The major intervention introduced by the NPP government resolved the Dumsor. First, Ghana Gas, the gas flow Atuabo processing plant, we were doing 98 million cubic feet when the NDC was in power, today we are doing almost 150 million cubic feet,” Mr. Owusu-Bempah is reported to have said at a press conference here in Accra, on Friday, January 12, 2024.

However, checks made by 3news.com show that the processing plant, after its maintenance work in April last year, had a processing flow rate of 90 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd). This was contained in a press release signed by Mr. Owusu-Bempah on April 7, 2023, announcing the completion of the planned maintenance shutdown of the Atuabo gas processing plant.

“The entire maintenance activities ended in the late hours of Wednesday 5th April, 2023 ahead of scheduled date of completion. We are currently at a flow rate of 90 mmscfd,” a portion of the statement reads.

According to the Ghana Gas Operations Records, the “gas processing plant (GPP) at Atuabo in the Western Region has a design capacity of 150 MMScfd and a normal operating capacity of 120 MMScfd.” This also makes Mr. Owusu-Bempah’s claim less believable.

The Deputy Director of Communications for the governing NPP and Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana National Gas Company, Mr. Owusu-Bempah, was categorical at the press conference that interventions introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration upon assumption of office in 2017 ended the erratic power supply, popularly known as ‘Dumsor’, that the country experienced under the Mahama administration.

He said that regarding the gas flow at the Atuabo Gas Plant, the Mahama administration did 98 million cubic feet, but today [January 12, 2024], the Akufo-Addo government is doing almost 150 million cubic feet.

The outspoken NPP communicator also claimed that “the Kar Power that he [John Mahama] brought into this country that is milking the country, today we are pushing gas there, which is also giving us almost 400 MW of electricity.”

Most diasporas don’t know Ghana’s culture

0

Fatimatu Abubakar

Deputy Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, has said the embattled American rapper, Meek Mill, shooting a music video at the Jubilee House should be a learning curve for protocol staff at the Jubilee House.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, she said most of the diasporas who come down do not know Ghana’s culture well and therefore they should be pardoned.

“It is not the first time an artiste is visiting the president or presidency. A lot of artistes have been there already both foreign and local and most of them do not even know our culture and so should be pardoned. The protocol system has taken cue from this gaffe,” she said.

To her, the video and pictures were not taken at the president’s office and so the issue should not be dragged further but rather it is important that “we look at the bigger picture.”

“We’re learning and building so a lot of challenges would come. Let us look at the prospects rather than the negative comment. A lot of people have taken pictures at where Meek Mill took his. I don’t think the pictures are the issue,” she added.

A teaser of the rapper’s music video posted on social media featured some parts of the Jubilee House including a lectern at the Presidency.

Meek Mill was seen in the company of a group of other backers rapping at the seat of government.

The content of the video has since generated backlash from Ghanaians as they say the act has compromised the security of the Jubilee House.

According to the critics, since the Jubilee House is the embodiment of Ghana’s executive authority, it was inappropriate for the singer to have been allowed to access it in that manner.

Nigeria has ordered the closure of all its land borders during Saturday’s tightly contested elections.

The directive is meant to ensure that the “elections are free, fair and devoid of anomalies”, the Nigeria Immigration Service said.

Border officials have been told to ensure strict enforcement of the order.

The presidential and parliamentary elections are reported to be the most tightly contested since military rule ended in 1999.

The immigration service said it had seized 6,000 voters cards and other Nigerian identification documents from illegal immigrants in the run-up to the elections.

Let us put Local governance at par with Parliament – James Gunu

0

By Samuel Akumatey

Ho, April 17, GNA – Individuals seeking to serve as lawmakers in Parliament have been urged to consider service at the Local Assembly level to enhance community development.

Mr James Gunu, Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the quality of individuals that contest Parliamentary seats and their commitment to attaining the position could be of great transformation to local governance, if they sought to also avail themselves at the district level.

He said there was an unhealthy balance of quality between Parliament and the Local Assemblies, that the latter needed to be elevated to help complement the work of the former.

The Regional Secretary made the call while briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the vetting of aspirants for the upcoming primaries of the NDC.

He said Parliamentary aspirants with their resources would not only improve the quality of the membership of Local Assemblies but would also work to benefit local community development.

“I want to encourage the aspirants that politics is not all about going to Parliament. I also believe in our local governance system, that many of them should be concerned about deepening our decentralised and local governance system by taking advantage of the next Assembly elections coming.

“Pushing all good materials into Parliament affects the quality at the Assembly level. If you elect weaker Assembly Members and stronger Parliamentarians, the superstructure would be heavier than the substructure.

“We must look at this to have a balanced system of parliamentary democracy and decentralised governance in the country. Both opportunities bring advantages and aspirants should consider Assembly membership,” Mr Gunu stated.

All 75 aspirants contesting the parliamentary primaries were cleared at vetting, and the Regional Secretary said those that would not make it to Parliament should look at contributing at the Local Assemblies.

Mr Gunu asked, “We have exceptionally good, excellent materials, but out of the 75, only 18 will go to Parliament. Where do we put the rest?

The parliamentary primaries would be held on May 13 in all constituencies, and there are a total of 15 women among the 75 aspirants, all who had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the contest, its processes and outcome.

Speaking at a brief ceremony held in honour of the ex-President on April 20, 2023, the OKaikwei North NDC Constituency Chairman, Gregory Quarshie, assured Mr Mahama and his team that the highest votes that he would receive come May 13 when the party heads to the poll, will come from his constituency.

“You will hear from the people of Okaikwei North in the ballot box on May 13, 2023. The highest percentage of votes will come from Okaikwei North,” the Okaikwei North NDC Constituency Chairman said.

“With 76,659 voter population, we have delivered before and we will deliver again come December 7, 2024,” the Okaikwei North NDC Constituency Chairman who doubles as a financial economist said, promising that “after the 2024 General Elections Okaikwei North will be the first to collate and present its results.”

Reiterating the promises made by the NDC Constituency Chairman, the Okaikwei North Member of Parliament, Theresa Lardi Awuni, said they will do whatever it takes to ensure the victory of the ex-President and aspiring flagbearer.

Taking his turn to speak, ex-President Mahama said he was gladdened by the two promises made by the Okaikwei North NDC Constituency Chairman.

“I believe you because the last time you promised me in 2019, you delivered, so I have no doubt that you will deliver,” the aspiring NDC flagbearer said.

According to him, the promise by the Constituency to be the “first to collate and present its results” is something the party would be looking forward to going into the 2024 General Elections.

“I sincerely love that promise [and] indeed we are going to reward constituencies that collate and present their results before a certain time in 2024. Those constituencies and branches are going to get handsome rewards,” Mr Mahama assured.

The former Ghanaian leader added that the election in 2024 is “going to be an election with a difference and all of us are going to be involved.”

Increase in dialysis treatment purely an exchange rate problem – Nsiah-Asare

0

Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare

The Presidential Adviser on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, has attributed the recent increase in the cost of renal dialysis to foreign exchange fluctuations.

He indicated that, though import charges also played a role in the hikes, the largest contributory factor is the foreign exchange regime in recent months.

Ghanaians, particularly patients on dialysis treatment, lamented when the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s Renal Dialysis Unit on Wednesday, September 27 announced an increase from GH¢380 to GHS¢765.42 per dialysis session.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament described the increase as illegal and outrageous and called on the Hospital to immediately reverse the increase.

But speaking on Citi FM, the Presidential Advisor on Health said dialysis is generally expensive, irrespective of the location where the treatment is given, and attributed Ghana’s hikes to foreign exchange differences.

He explained that, most of the dialysis consumables are disposal materials, which also explains the increase and admonished hospitals to make use of the Tax Exemption Regime to avoid paying import duties.

“Dialysis is generally expensive irrespective of wherever you are coming from and most of the things we use in dialysis are used once and disposed and almost all the things we use in dialysis are imported into the country and the problem is because of the foreign exchange regime and what has happened over the period of time is the foreign exchange.

What we need to do holistically is to look at the causes of renal cases that we have, the burden, the treatment methods available, the preventive measures to put in place and we need to look at these things holistically,” Dr. Nsiah-Asare added.

Ten Hag Hits Back At Mourinho

0

Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag hit back at comments made by Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese coach said he never had the same level of support as the Dutchman enjoys at Manchester United.

Mourinho suggested that Ten Hag has been given more backing in the transfer market than he had during his 2½ years at Old Trafford.

However, Ten Hag hit back by claiming that Mourinho is the only manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era to “get the players they wanted.”

“Apart from Mourinho, the manager didn’t get the players they wanted, and that is what you need,” Ten Hag said in an interview with ESPN Brasil.

“I am confident we will achieve our goals, but it is a tough competition. It is not a two-horse race anymore.

“There are seven, eight [teams in the Premier League] who all go for the title, who all have very good squads. So if you want to go to the title, you have to construct that squad.”

Ten Hag, 54, is facing an uncertain future at United following a disappointing second season in charge. He has a year left on his contract, but he has been given no formal guarantees by new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe that he will continue as manager beyond the summer.

The former Ajax boss has tried to bring in the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Harry Kane in the past but said the club’s decision to bring in younger players such as Rasmus Højlund means that he should be afforded patience to get things right.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis halts busing migrants to NYC, Chicago

Jan. 8 (UPI) — Gov. Jared Polis has announced that Colorado will halt its program to bus migrants to New York City and Chicago after he was criticized by the mayors of the two cities.

“People fleeing violence and oppression in search of a better life for themselves and their families deserve our respect not political games and we are grateful we have been able to assist migrants to reach their final destination,” Polis said in a statement Saturday.

“We refuse to keep people against their will if they desire to travel elsewhere.”

Polis, a Democrat, said that he had a “very productive conversation” with New York’s Mayor Eric Adams and Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago, who are also both Democrats.

No more buses are currently scheduled for migrants from Denver to Chicago and the last chartered transportation to New York City was scheduled to be completed Sunday, Polis said.

“While the federal government and Congress, unfortunately, have failed the American people on immigration reform and border security, Colorado continues to assure culturally competent and humane support to help assist migrants escaping oppression,” Polis said.

Polis reiterated his stance that the U.S. Congress and the administration of President Joe Biden “must assist states who are facing these challenges through no fault of their own” and hopes to partner with the federal government to provide work permits for migrants in Colorado.

His apparent backtrack on the program comes after Lightfoot and Adams sent an open letter to Polis describing their concerns with his plan to send migrants north.

“Although we share the concerns of accommodating the flood of asylum seekers, overburdening other cities is not the solution. We respectfully demand that you cease and desist sending migrants to New York City and Chicago,” Lightfoot and Adams wrote in their letter.

The mayors said that their cities have each received hundreds of migrants from Colorado and could not accommodate more “because of the thousands of migrants that had already been inhumanely bused to our respective cities from Texas since spring of 2022.”

“We have seen your statements in the media that you are simply accommodating the wishes of migrants to come to cities like New York City and Chicago,” the mayors wrote.

“However, you are sending migrants and families to New York City and Chicago that do not have any ties, family members or community networks to welcome them, and at a time where both cities are at maximum capacity in shelter space and available services.”

Polis previously said that 70% of migrants arriving in Denver “don’t have Colorado as a final destination.”

Governors in Florida and Texas have sent migrants to other cities by bus and plane.

This Is Not An Agenda Against The Church, I’m Not Anti-Christ – Ablakwa On Cathedral Exposés | Social

0

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa insists that the work he is doing by way of pushing for accountability and transparency in the construction of the National Cathedral is not an agenda against the church.

The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, in a Citi TV interview (December 2022), emphasized the importance of religion (Christianity) on his past and present.

Ablakwa has over the last few months published instances of corporate governance and alleged financial infractions on the part of government and trustees in the building of the Cathedral.

The dogged nature of his advocacy has led people in some quarters to question his real motives, but he insists: “This is not an agenda against the church, I am not seeking to bring down a religion that I will be nobody without.

“I have said time without number that where would I be without Christianity? Belief in the saving power, the salvation grace of Jesus, the Christ,” he stressed.

He recounted how former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Oquaye, had mentored him through his Sunday school days as well as his role in religious groupings during his Senior High School days.

“I am not a pagan, I am not anti-Christ or whatever they say,” he added.

Ablakwa goes after secretary to Board of Trustees of National Cathedral

The Member of Parliament has since January 2023 disclosed statutory documentation purporting to prove that Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, is operating under the pseudonym Kwabena Adu Gyamfi for criminal purposes.

The MP has so far released a number of passports, drivers’ license, Tax Identification Number data and details of company registration that Kusi Boateng (Adu Gyamfi) has used in the past and some he continues to use.

In the latest installment of his posts, Ablakwa said a statement by the NIA on the Ghana Card status of Kwabena Adu Gyamfi confirmed that in their records, Victor Kusi Boateng did not exist, a claim he made last week.

He has justified his publications of Kusi Boateng’s documents with the view that the clergyman was using two names because he was engaging in criminal activities with one of the identities (i.e. Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.)

Ablakwa has stood by an accusation that the pastor’s company (JNS Talent Center) was paid an unmerited sum from the National Cathedral kitty, even though the secretariat has explained that the GHC2.6 million paid to Rev Kusi Boateng was a loan repayment.

According to Ablakwa, the Board of Trustees never discussed acquiring a loan facility, and at the time the loan was acquired, the Cathedral had about $6 million in its bank accounts.

Akufo-Addo has banked his hope on a man who knows nothing – Basintale criticises Bawumia –

0

The Deputy Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has raised concerns about the chosen flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, hopeful for a particular outcome in the 2024 elections, has placed his trust in an individual whom he describes as having no knowledge of the economy.

Speaking in an interview on TV3, Basintale said that the vice president lacks an understanding of how economic dynamics work in the country.

To him, Bawumia is only quick at making promises without a clear understanding of their economic feasibility.

“I used to think that President Akufo-Addo was the problem, and I used to think that he just appeared insensitive, probably wicked and he decided to plunge the Ghanaian people into this particular situation we find ourselves in.

“But I have come to understand that he’s banked his hopes on a man who virtually knows nothing. A man who does not understand the economic corridors of this country, a man who goes about promising because probably, promises are the only tax-free components in this country,” he said.

He continued: “This is also a man who does not even understand how to cater for this particular difficulty we’ve found ourselves in.

Basintale added that Bawumia lacks the capacity to address the challenges facing the nation, particularly in terms of low productivity, economic growth, and high unemployment rates.

“Our problem in this country today has to do with low productivity, low economic growth, and a hard high unemployment rate. All other developed countries that have moved their economies from taxation to production, from unemployment to a better employment status have implemented the 24-hour system,” he stated.

Congestion, Chaos At Nkrumah Circle – Assembly Steps In To Restore Order |

0

The Kwame Nkrumah Interchange is an important transport hub that distributes thousands of vehicles to connect in different directions — inter-city and intra-city — with more than 20 lorry terminals and boasts of all-day-round activities.

Given its importance and the thousands of people who use it on a daily basis, the three-tier interchange was constructed to help ease congestion and enhance free movement of vehicles and commuters.

Known for its bustling city life, the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange has, however, been plagued with illegal activities, resulting in unprecedented levels of congestion, compounded with criminal activities that undermine the good intentions for which the project was birthed.

Context

Formerly, the area only had a roundabout to distribute the thousands of vehicles that use the corridor to connect in different directions, including to major towns and cities such as Kumasi, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Tema, Aflao, Korle Bu, Teshie/Nungua, Odorkor, Accra.

It has commercial bus and/or taxi stations for almost all major suburbs of Accra and also serves as the terminal for long-distance travellers. The Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, therefore, has terminals for STC, VIP, VVIP, OA, PROTOA, GPRTU and all transport unions and networks, including those that travel to the West Coast, such as GUO and EFEX.

About three million people are estimated to visit the city each day, with most of them living on the outskirts, according to official figures.

Their rush in and out of the city on a daily basis creates chaos, especially during rush hours at places such as the Interchange (Circle), which is a transport hub for commuters.

Congestion

The congestion is mainly caused by the rising number of hawkers and street vendors who set up makeshift shops in the area in an attempt to make a living.

With no official regulation being enforced, the vendors have been blocking the walkways and parts of the streets, making it increasingly difficult for vehicles to pass.

In addition, the area has seen an influx of illegal parking activities by commercial and private vehicles, including ‘Okadas’ and trotros.

The Daily Graphic team which monitored the scenes at the area observed that the situation had created a chaotic atmosphere, with drivers weaving in and out of traffic, often ignoring road traffic regulations.

Police helpless

The team again observed that the situation worsens in particular parts of the area when there is no police presence.

At the locations where police officers are stationed, the observation is that they were often overwhelmed and sometimes watched in despair as the situation deteriorates.

The few police officers, who are usually seen under the overpass and on the two ends of the roads in front of the Orion Cinema, near P&T, were seen only trying to impress on the drivers to move their vehicles as soon as they stopped to pick passengers. The picking of passengers on the move is a major cause of the congestion.

Again, the stretch from the Neoplan terminal to the New Times Corporation office often has trotros taking up one of the three lanes of the road.

The situation worsens in the evening when drivers deliberately park their vehicles on the shoulders of the road after the day’s work.

It is also common to see persons who appear to be ‘drug addicts’ and mentally challenged making parts of the overpass their places of abode.

Frustration

The congestion has caused much frustration among commuters and pedestrians alike, with many people voicing their complaints even on social media.

One resident of Achimota, Mathilda Hammond, who works in the area, told the Daily Graphic in an interview that the situation was mind-boggling, given that the redesigning of Circle into an interchange was expected to create some room for businesses to thrive in the area.

“I can’t believe how bad the traffic is in Circle. It’s like a nightmare. I hope the authorities do something about it soon,” she said.

Asked why people still sold on the streets instead of the Pedestrian Mall constructed about a decade ago to decongest the streets and bring some sanity to the area, Ms Hammond said people were always rushing from one place to the other and did not patronise the wares of the traders in the mall.

“It’s easier for people to buy from the streets than enter the mall because they are always rushing from one place to the other,” she indicated.

The trader added that some people had shops in the mall but still operated from the streets to make the numbers.

in the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area has been on the rise due to the increasing levels of congestion in the area.

Over the past few months, there have been numerous reports of muggings, pickpocketing and other criminal activities.

As the congestion in the area has resulted in a surge in the number of vehicles and pedestrians, it has made it easier for criminals to blend in and commit their crimes.

The criminals, the Daily Graphic gathered, are often taking advantage of the heavy traffic build-up to snatch mobile devices and side bags.

Indiscipline

A trotro driver, Charles Bentum, told the Daily Graphic that the chaotic situation was mainly due to indiscipline on the part of both drivers and pedestrians who ignored road traffic regulations in the area.

He said successive governments had announced plan after plan to tackle the problem of illegal activities in the area and minimise indiscipline but the plans had not been implemented successfully.

“A new police task force was set up to regulate the traffic and enforce the law during the previous administration but that too didn’t work,” Mr Bentum said.

In an interview to find out what the city authorities were doing to curb the vehicular and trader congestion at the area due to sheer indiscipline, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KKMA), Samuel James Nii Adjei Tawiah, said the assembly was employing a raft of measures to decongest roads and spaces around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange that has been plagued with illegal activities to bring sanity to the area and boost economic activities.

The measures, some of which are already being implementation, include getting rid of hawkers and beggars from the streets, relocating street vendors to newly built markets, strict enforcement of bye-laws on parking in collaboration with the private sector and a new plan to create car parking spaces such as on-street parking within the bustling city centre.

He told the Daily Graphic that ultimately the adopted measures would help reduce streetism, promote sanitation and organise the commercially vibrant area in a manner that would bring serenity and comfort to city dwellers.

The move will also help to contain the growing number of vehicles and persons that compete for space in the vibrant area.

Attitudinal change needed

Addressing the concerns of the public, the MCE noted that growing public indiscipline had enormously contributed to the present chaotic situation in the area.

“The main problem is attitudinal change because some of these measures have been deployed in the past, but people ignore them and still perpetrate their illegal activities, including selling on the pavements, which is very dangerous,” he said.

Already, Mr Tawiah said the assembly had completed a market around Odawna where small stalls and ‘lockable stores’ had been constructed in order for all street hawkers to be at a central location.

“That has also been difficult to achieve because we as a people like to buy in traffic instead of buying from the market so the traders have also refused to move but with enforcement, we hope to change the situation,” he said.

M.anifest fondly recalls how Eno Barony beat him in a rap battle » ™-

0

– –

Rapper M.anifest has praised Eno Barony, his colleague in the industry as shares happy memories of the time she defeated him in a rap battle at an unnamed radio station.

M.anifest, who has made a reputation for himself in Ghanaian and African rap music folklore, gave Barony her flowers by praising her extraordinary talent.

In an interview, the rapper called Eno Barony’s arrival in the music industry the “breaking of the glass ceiling moment.”

– –

“I remember the first time I was on the radio station with her when I saw her, she out-rapped me, I was like ‘oh my goodness, who is this one?’” he said

The award-winning rapper however rightly observed that the industry has not been fair to Barony because she is a female.

The truth about why there aren’t many women involved in hiplife and the music space is that the space unfortunately is still quite sexist. It is difficult for a woman to operate in these spaces, whether it is as simple as night sessions in the studio.

He further advised that women should be given equal opportunities in the music space for the industry to thrive.“If we want to succeed, bring the gals dems.”

The Ga version of the famous Methodist hymn that brought joy and comfort to E.T. Mensah during his last days –

0

The last days of the late Enoch Teye Mensah, affectionately called E.T Mensah, have been described as a whirlwind of hope and despair, marked by fleeting moments of joy and prolonged bouts of agony.

However, in the midst of the prolonged bouts of agony, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram and ex-Minister of Sports had moments of joy on his sick bed somewhere far away in South Africa.

In a tribute read by his wife, Mrs Lordina Presutti Mensah, she told mourners gathered at the forcourt of the State House for the final funeral rites of E.T. Mensah, that the late politician, who was also staunch Christian, loved listening to Methodist Hymn 321.

In his last days, where he had escapades of breathing difficulties and even placed on ventilator, there were days where he showed great improvement and enjoyed listening to the Ga version of Hymn 321 titled, “Guide me Oh Thou Great Jehovah.”

“During his hospitalization, there were moments of deep connection and profound sadness. Each morning, I would find solace in his presence, singing hymns together, his favorite Methodist hymns 321 which he prefers to sing the Ga version; “Guide me Oh Thou Great Jehovah”, witnessing the joy and comfort it brought him.

“These moments, captured in videos I now hold dear, seemed to signal a recovery, as he gradually regained his strength, recognizing me by the touch of my hand. The doctors were optimistic, suggesting improvement with each passing day,” she wrote in her tribute.

However, the beautiful moments were short lived when he passed on after requesting that his wife read out to him Psalms 91, 121, and 23.

The late Enoch Teye Mensah, affectionately called E.T Mensah, was laid to rest, yesterday, January 5, 2024, at the forecourt of the State House.

The state funeral rites was to honour the late former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram and ex-Minister of Sports, who died in October 2023.

Read the full tribute below:

In the heart of Greater Accra, where the Ga Dangme traditions run deep and the spirit of community thrives, I met a man who would forever change the course of my life.

Over two decades ago, during a humble donation event, our paths crossed, and little did I know that this encounter would blossom into a lifetime of love, support, and companionship.

ET Mensah, my beloved husband, was not just a pillar of strength for me but also for the many lives he touched. His love was boundless, his care unwavering, and his support unparalleled.

As a father, he was the beacon of hope and discipline, guiding our children with wisdom and love. As a husband, he stood by my side, supporting my dreams and aspirations, celebrating my successes, and holding my hand through the challenges.

His humility was one of his most admirable traits. In a world where many seek recognition and applause, ET Mensah was content in his quiet dedication to his principles and values.

He was a man who held his name in high regard, never allowing it to be tarnished by compromise or deceit. His love for reading the Bible was a testament to his deep faith and his belief in accepting and loving others just as they are.

I often reflect on the teachings of my revered Eminent Dr. Evangelist Enoch Teye Mensah, who was a beacon of humility, straightforwardness, and discipline. He taught us the importance of staying true to oneself, of valuing one’s name, and of living a life of integrity and purpose.

To Ghana, our beloved nation, ET Mensah was a true son. He never misused his position, always striving to make his country proud. He believed in using his name for a greater good, in service to his people and his land. Ghana, in return, embraced him, valuing his honesty, his dedication, and his unwavering commitment to its progress.

In the days leading up to my beloved husband’s passing, our lives were enveloped in a whirlwind of hope and despair, marked by fleeting moments of joy and prolonged bouts of agony.

Our journey began with an unexpected rush to the University of Ghana Medical Center, followed by an urgent trip to South Africa, fueled by his unwavering trust in the doctors there. His hopeful spirits upon our departure were a brief respite in our ordeal.

The flight to South Africa was an episode filled with drama, the details of which are too painful to recount. Upon arrival, his condition necessitated immediate specialist attention, leading to his admission.

During his hospitalization, there were moments of deep connection and profound sadness. Each morning, I would find solace in his presence, singing hymns together, his favorite Methodist hymns 321which he prefers to sing the Ga version; “Guide me Oh Thou Great Jehovah”, witnessing the joy and comfort it brought him. These moments, captured in videos I now hold dear, seemed to signal a recovery, as he gradually regained his strength, recognizing me by the touch of my hand. The doctors were optimistic, suggesting improvement with each passing day.

However, our hope was short-lived. A call from the hospital, mirroring the one received two weeks prior about his breathing difficulties, shattered my world. Rushing to his side, I found him back on a ventilator, a harrowing sight that marked the saddest day of my life. Against all odds, he began to show signs of recovery again, responsive to my voice and touch, filling me with a joyous belief that he was getting better. We even shared a light-hearted moment when he corrected my reading of Psalm 91, a testament to his enduring spirit and intellect.

But fate had other plans. On the eve of his passing, he requested I read Psalms 91, 121, and 23. The following day, while I was away, I received the devastating call. Rushing back to the hospital, I was met with the unbearable truth: my husband, my love, my everything, had slipped away. The void he left is immeasurable, leaving me with memories of our trips to South Africa, his loving calls of ‘honey,’ and the unwavering faith that he now rests in a better place, building a home for us to reunite.

As I stand here, with a heart heavy with grief but filled with gratitude, I remember the man who was my rock, my confidant, and my best friend.

In his legacy, I find strength, and in his memory, I find solace, until we meet again.

Rest in eternal peace, My Beloved!

You will forever be missed, but your spirit will live on in my heart!

Replacing PTAs with PAs totally unnecessary

0

The Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, is urging the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately reverse its decision to reorganize Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) into Parent Associations (PA).

Dr. Apaak emphasized the significant role that PTAs have played in complementing the government’s efforts over the years in providing universal access to education.

His comments follow GES’ announcement of a decision to reorganize PTAs into PAs to address financial and operational challenges associated with providing access to education in schools.

In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Apaak described the decision to realign parent-teacher associations as “totally unnecessary.”

“…We have seen the negative consequences of that. The PTAs have and continue to play a very important role in assisting the government in delivering education. You go to many secondary schools across this country, you will see structures that were put up by PTAs,” Dr. Clement Apaak said.

The GES has developed new guidelines for Parent Associations, previously known as Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), in pre-tertiary schools in the country.

The guidelines prohibit teachers from being part of the Association, impose restrictions on teachers collecting fees from students preventing them from writing exams, and stipulate that parents whose wards have completed school must no longer be part of the Association.

The Secretary of the National Council of the Parents Teachers Association in Ghana, Gapson Kofi Raphael, has also expressed dismay at the Ghana Education Service over its guidelines on PTAs.

He described the actions by the GES as unlawful and illegal.

Repressing BDC Operators Will Worsen Foreign Exchange Situation

0

Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has opined that the reported clampdown on Bureau De Change (BDC) operators by government agencies is “wrongly directed.”

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had conducted raids against illegal Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in parts of the country on February 21, 2024.

Reacting via X at the weekend, he said the action will worsen the country’s exchange rate situation and not solve the issue.

The former Anambra State Governor furthered that the BDCs are not the primary suppliers of forex.

“The recent reported attacks and disruption of the business activities of Bureaux de Change (BDCs) operators in different urban centers across the country by Government Agencies, are ill-advised and wrongly directed.

“Rather than solve the problem, the action will further escalate and worsen the exchange rate situation in the country.

“The BDCs are not the primary suppliers of forex nor do they create demand. They only provide a market to sellers and buyers of foreign currency,” he wrote.

According to him, BDC operators are predominant in all economies, including the world’s most developed countries.

“To think that the BDCs are the cause of the declining value of the Naira is a smack on rational economic thinking.

“The only way to shore up the value of our currency is to move the country from consumption to production, especially export-led production, and fight corruption, which allows unproductive money to pursue the available supply of foreign currency.

“As long as Nigeria remains an unproductive economy and corruption continues unfettered with people in possession of unproductive excess cash, the value of our currency will continue to depreciate,” Obi added.

Excelsior playing ground. INSET: N’Golo Kante

France midfielder N’Golo Kante has purchased third-tier Belgian side Royal Excelsior Virton, the club announced on Thursday.

The club announced existing owner Flavio Becca’s decision to sell the club to Kante, who has just completed a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad, and confirmed that the former Chelsea midfielder would take control on July 1.

The statement said, “Flavio is obviously extremely happy to hand over the keys of the club to N’Golo Kante, a high-class player, not only for his footballing qualities but also and above all for his widely recognised human qualities.

“Driven by his passion for football, N’Golo Kante wants to continue to structure the club in order to consolidate its foundations, stabilise its staff, and eventually reconnect with the tradition of training RE Virton’s Youth Academy.

“The club aims to establish its local roots in order to become a driving force of football in Gaume and in the province of Luxembourg.”

Virton suffered relegation from the second division, Challenger Pro League, last season and will play in the third tier of Belgian football in 2023-24.

Kante’s acquisition of Virton comes in the same week as Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha and rapper Stormzy purchased ninth-tier English football side, Croydon Athletic.

Former Palace head of player care Danny Young has joined the duo in buying a stake in the south London club.

Government to conduct sector-wide audit of the energy sector – Amin Adam –

0

Minister of Finance, Dr. Amin Adam, has said the government will conduct a sector-wide audit of the energy sector which is in line with Ghana’s current IMF-supported programme.

He explained that this has become necessary to ensure compliance in the sector, as well as, enhance implementation of the cash waterfall mechanism to reduce shortfalls.

Speaking at a joint IMF, Bank of Ghana, and Finance Ministry presser held on April 13, the finance minister said government will further review the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s (PURC) tariff-setting methodology to reduce or eliminate discretion.

He pointed out that this was vital to promote transparency in the formula and process of setting tariffs.

“For the energy sector, in particular, we have discussed the possibility of ensuring that the shortfall in the sector is reduced. The reforms we are pursuing as well as new ones will continue to be implemented.

“We will, for example, conduct a sector-wide audit of the energy sector, strengthen the implementation of the cash waterfall mechanism, review the PURC tariff setting methodology to reduce or eliminate discretion and also to make the formula and the process of tariff setting more transparent,” the finance minister said.

Touching on the cocoa sector, Dr. Amin Adam said the government will continue to monitor COCOBOD’s cost-cutting reforms aimed at addressing the cocoa regulator’s sustainability.

“On the cocoa sector, we will continue to pay attention to the cost-cutting measures being implemented by COCOBOD as well as continue to rationalise the cocoa road sector to make more resources available to complete ongoing road projects,” Dr Amin Adam said.

The finance minister said the government remains committed to implementing the IMF-ECF programme without derailment despite it being an election year.

He added that government aims to restore macroeconomic stability and get the economy back on a sound footing.

Google’s adtech targeted by Dutch class-action style privacy damages suit

0

Google is facing class-action style litigation in the Netherlands which accuses the adtech giant of breaching European privacy laws. It’s demanding Google stops tracking and profiling consumers and is also seeking compensation for what it dubs “large-scale privacy violations” of the European Union’s data protection regime.

The representative action is being brought by two not-for-profits: The Foundation for the Protection of Privacy Interests (FPPI) and the Dutch Consumers’ Association (aka Consumentenbond).

More than 82,000 consumers have signed up to join the claim since it was announced back in May, per the pair.

“Google acts in violation of Dutch and European privacy legislation,” the Google claim plaintiffs argue on their website [translated from Dutch with AI]. “The tech giant collects users’ online behavior and location data on an immense scale through its services and products. Without providing enough information or having obtained permission.

“Google then shares that data, including highly sensitive personal data about health, ethnicity and political preference, for example, with hundreds of parties via its online advertising platform. Irish research shows that residents’ internet activity and locations in Europe are exposed to online ad auctions on average almost 380 times a day.”

“Google must stop violating your privacy and pay damages. We also demand that Google implement structural changes so that it no longer violates your privacy. Google turns you into a product and collects billions in advertising sales every year,” they add.

The ‘no win, no fee’ suit is still open to sign ups — registration is offered via the claim website. Consumers who have used Google product or services at any time after March 1, 2012, and lived in the Netherlands, can join the mass action.

The Northern European country was early to amend its class action regime to apply a new EU directive on representative actions which allows qualified entities, such as consumer rights groups, to file collective actions for a class of consumers. The new procedural rules have been required to be applied to new claims since June 25.

Add to that, back in May, a ruling by the Court of Justice of the EU confirmed there is no threshold of seriousness for non-material harm in order to claim compensation for privacy damages. Which means claims can be brought for emotional distress flowing from a violation of the bloc’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or other privacy laws.

Commenting on the Google claim in a statement, Ada van der Veer, chairman of the FPPI, added:

Google is constantly monitoring everyone. Even when using third-party cookies — which are invisible — Google continues to collect data through other people’s websites and apps, even when someone is not using its products or services. This enables Google to monitor almost the entire internet behavior of its users. In addition, Google continuously collects the physical locations of users, even when they are not actively using their devices and think they are ‘offline’.

Google was contacted for comment on the litigation but at press time it had not responded.

A number of aspects of the tech giant’s business have been under investigation by its lead regulator for GDPR, Ireland’s Data Protection Commission, for several years following complaints its technologies breach EU privacy rules. However no decisions have been handed down — including on a major complaint against’s Google adtech; another against Google’s location tracking; and several charging Google with deceptive design — giving consumer rights groups further impetus to resort to litigation so long as funders are willing to take cases on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis.

In this case the Google claim is being funded by the litigation-focused law firm, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein.

Research into Google’s real-time-bidding adtech by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties has previously revealed details of the vast scale of data sharing involved in the high velocity online auctions Google monetizes by matching profiled consumers with microtargeted ads. However, despite the tech giant’s lead regulator for GDPR — the Irish DPC — investigating its adtech since 2019 no decision has been issued and, last year, the regulator itself was sued for inaction over the adtech complaint.

In the meanwhile Google has been busy executing a pivot to an alternative form of ad targeting which aims to shift away from third-party cookies for tracking individual web users’ activity to embedding surveillance technology into its Chrome browser that keeps tabs on the websites consumers visit to assign interest categories that advertisers can use to select which ads they see.

Google calls this rebooted ad targeting system “Privacy Sandbox”. However web users’ activity is still being tracked to determine ad topics for receiving marketing so it’s not clear how much of a privacy advance it represents. Google is also actively pushing the Privacy Sandbox system onto Chrome users — requiring they take active steps to opt out of it, rather than an affirmative opt in despite its implementation of the migration being closely monitored by UK regulators.

The Consumer Association behind the Google claim previously brought a successful privacy litigation against Facebook-owner Meta, also funded by Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein — obtaining a declaration of rights earlier this year in which the court found the tech giant did not have a lawful basis to process local users’ data for ad targeting.

Hope, Prayers Won’t Solve Nigeria’s Problems — Presidency

0

Aliyu Audu

The Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Aliyu Audu, on Tuesday, posited that prayers won’t solve the plethora of challenges facing the country.

This is as he reiterated the current administration’s commitment to tackling the infrastructural deficit in the country.

Recall that on Monday, President Bola Tinubu approved the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund to facilitate effective infrastructure.

He however urged Nigerians to cooperate with the Federal Government as he spoke during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“When we look at how we were some 10 years ago when it was rainy, how we failed to save even though we were warned by the managers of the economy locally and internationally.

“I think it is us hoping that miracles (and) prayers, going into church, mosque or fasting will fix our problem. No they don’t. You got to work to fix your problem.

“Nigeria works when Nigerians work, prayers don’t fix problems. It takes time, we need to get used to that. It is not magic,” he said.

CL: Atletico Madrid hit 10-man Celtic for six

0

Alvaro Morata slides in to make it 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in first-half stoppage time

Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata both scored twice as 10-man Celtic suffered a bruising loss at Atletico Madrid to remain rooted to the bottom of Champions League Group E.

Daizen Maeda was sent off after a booking was reassessed via the monitor, with the visitors trailing to Griezmann’s early deflected strike.

Morata added a close-range finish before the interval and thundered in the fifth after great efforts from Griezmann and Samuel Lino, while Saul scuffed in the sixth.

With two games remaining, Brendan Rodgers’ side are five points adrift of Feyenoord in third place.

Atletico lead the way on eight points, one ahead of Lazio, who Celtic visit next.

Celtic’s solitary point came against the Spanish side in Glasgow a fortnight ago. That was a thrilling contest with no quarter given. This was a mundane one-sided affair by comparison, given the visitors’ miserable start.

I sometimes feel useless and unworthy – Ama K Abebrese opens up –

0

Television personality, Ama K Abebrese has opened up about how she sometimes feels worthless and useless.

She made this known when she recalled an experience she had while driving.

The actress who made this known in a tweet indicated that she had to stop her car, cry her heart out to get better.

She said she had to place a call to a friend who motivated her and drew her attention to her impact in life and how worthy she is.

Her series of tweets read “About a week ago, I was driving home from the supermarket and, for some reason, I felt very sad, unworthy and frankly very useless. I have had a series of disappointments and things have not been going how I expect. Feeling vulnerable, I started crying and couldn’t stop.

I stopped the car, and got on the phone with someone (whom I am so thankful for for being there to listen to me without judgment); he said to me that with my accomplishments, if I feel unworthy, then something is wrong.

It’s a reminder that God has a greater plan for all of us. There will be laughs and some tears at times, but we keep marching on. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11″.

After that encouraging phone call, I hanged up and managed to smile through my tears and drove home, feeling a bit better. Fast forward one week on, and today is my birthday, and I feel such a sense of love and renewed sense of hope.

In that moment, it hit me that sometimes, no matter how big or small our achievements are, how much loved and supported by our family and friends we just don’t feel that we are enough. It can feel insignificant in those moments.

I am filled with joy, blessings and gratitude. Now I’m gonna celebrate”.

In a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on Thursday in Abuja, Tinubu assured Nigerians that under his leadership, the resources would be adequately harnessed for the benefit of citizens.

“We are not meant to be in a position to be poor. We will turn the tide! Somewhere, somehow in this storm, there’s a quiet and peaceful place for us. We will locate it!

“We are not lazy people, we are richly endowed. We just need to be our brother’s keeper, and good neighbours to one another. I am not a President that will give excuses.

“’I will work hard for our nation with purpose, determination and dedication, to create wealth for all Nigerians., we have no reason to be poor! We will not look back, we will run aggressively forward.

“Today, we may be swimming against the tide. But the waves will soon propel us forward from behind. We will achieve the goals and dreams of our forefathers. I am inspired by the people I now lead,” the President said.

Speaking on infrastructure development in Rivers State, Tinubu said he had heard the cries of prominent Rivers sons, with particular reference to the Eleme Junction-Onne axis of the East-West Road, linking the Port Harcourt Refinery.

Over 40,000 rehabilitated cocoa farms to be returned to farmers in July

0

Over 40,000 farmlands belonging to cocoa farmers, which were temporarily taken for rehabilitation to enhance production, are set to be returned next month.

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) initially scheduled the release for April but postponed it to July.

The rehabilitation aims to address the decline in annual yields, leading to increased income for farmers and stakeholders.

The head of Public Affairs at COCOBOD, Fiifi Boafo, told Citi Business News that the handover of the farms will take place in July.

“The over 40,000 farms will be handed over next month. That is in July. Initially, it was planned to take place in April, but there was a change in plan.

“So the decision is that July next month, those farms will be handed over to the owners. I am referring to the farmers who originally owned these farms, “Mr. Boafo noted.

May Edochie files lawsuit against actress, Sarah Martins for plotting with Judy Austin to smear her reputation, exposes their ploy

0

May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor, Yul Edochie has filed a lawsuit against his colleague, Sarah Martins for defamation of character and public harassment.

Kemi Filani reported during the festive period last year that Sarah Martins had put up a photoshopped family photo of Yul Edochie, his two wives and their kids.

Sarah had also made strong allegations against May in an interview with media personality, Daddy Freeze. She claimed that May failed in her duties to Yul as his wife, which made him find love in the arms of her friend, Judy Austin.

In a reaction to it, May Edochie has pressed charges against her for subjecting her to public harassment.

She stated that Sarah Martins had joined forces with Judy to intimate and harass her into filing for divorce from Yul, so she can be his legal wife.

The mother of four is seeking for a public apology, a retraction of statement and assurance that she won’t repeat the utterances.

Sharing the lawsuit on her Instagram page, May stated that she has realized that some persons are out to taint her reputation and change the narrative in order to suit their agenda. May Edochie reinterated that she had a peaceful, and joyful marriage with Yul before the unfortunate happened.

“If is very inconsiderate and demeaning to SMEAR anyone especially someone you barely knew. I’ve always had a PEACEFUL JOYFUL and LOVING family. I worked tirelessly for several years building beautiful home while managing several businesses successfully.

It is very evident that some persons have been deliberately and desperately trying to TAINT my reputation and change the narrative in order to suit their agenda. This is unacceptable to me.

My passionate legal team will be extremely cheerful to dine with anyone who does not cease and desist from character assassination or defamatory publications in the court of law”.

Teen “Gang leader” Arrested for Bullying Peers into Stealing from Parents

0

In Kirinyaga, police apprehended a 14-year-old boy on allegations of being part of a gang that reportedly intimidates other young boys to steal from their parents in Mutithi village, Mwea West sub-county.

The arrest followed numerous complaints from parents in the village, who reported the issue to Mutithi Police Post before it was subsequently referred to Kiamaciri Police Station.

Reports indicate that the parents alleged the involvement of the boy who sat his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams last year. They claim that he had been targeting younger boys from Grade 4 to Grade 7, compelling them to steal money and household items from their parents.

Resident Francis Muthike said the issue gained attention when his grandson contemplated throwing himself into a 30-foot well in their compound. Reportedly, the suspect threatened the boy with death for failing to provide the gang with Sh.6,000.

Saved From Attempted Suicide

“My grandson who is a Grade 5 pupil had been stealing bags of rice in my store without my knowledge to sell and take the money to the gang. I saved him from throwing himself into a well and when he narrated the whole story to me, I could not believe it,” Muthike said as quoted by Citizen Digital.

Esther Nyamboke, another parent, said the suspect had been compelling her grandson to steal rice from her house and hand it over to him for selling, under the threat of facing a beating.

“My child had dropped his exams over fear of being attacked by the gang leader…I know his parents well as he was a Class 8 candidate last year,” another parent, Peter Murage, said.

On Tuesday evening, two boys aged 11 and 12, who were victims of bullying, provided statements at the Kiamaciri Police Station. More victims are expected to record statements during the week.

Deputy Police Commander Sammy Beautah of Mwea West sub-county confirmed the incident, stating that the statements will facilitate the arraignment of the suspect at Baricho Law Courts.

“The African continent is endowed with talent, mineral wealth and a young population – and is poised to play an increasingly influential role in global trade, as investors recognise its status as the last true frontier in global growth. Through this expansion, Absa Group isn’t merely acquiring a new location; we’re affirming our dedication to expanding our global presence and playing our part in facilitating growth on the continent,” says Arrie Rautenbach, Group Chief Executive Officer of Absa Group.

The China-Africa investment relationship has flourished over the past few decades, with China emerging as the continent’s largest bilateral trade partner. This has been fuelled by Chinese investment in Africa’s vast natural resources and infrastructure projects, creating huge commercial opportunities for both regions.

“Our decision to establish a presence in China was driven by our ambition to better connect trade, investment flows and clients into Africa, where we will serve them across our extensive continental footprint. Absa Group intimately understands the continent and seeks to be a partner of choice for organisations looking to access opportunities on the continent,” Rautenbach continues.

Absa Group’s expansion into China highlights Absa’s client-centric approach, in being able to innately understand their client’s needs. Its office in China will operate under a wholly foreign owned enterprise licence which permits the financial institution to provide general advisory services to clients based in China for concluding transactions across the African continent, as a non-banking subsidiary of Absa Group Limited.

This office allows the Absa Group to provide general advisory services to clients based in China for concluding transactions across the African continent, as well as distribute economic or general securities research reports permitted by Chinese regulation to corporate and institutional clients in China and across the African markets.

“The new office will enable Absa Group to offer local support to Chinese clients and stakeholders to conclude transactions across the African continent, helping to support clients’ needs, goals, and ambitions. This is part of a wider commitment from Absa to expand its operations with an international presence in strategic markets and offer deep expertise in African markets to its overseas clients,” says Charles Russon, CE of Absa Corporate & Investment Bank.

He goes on to say, “Our presence in China will help to firmly establish Absa’s capability to provide general advisory services to clients based in China for concluding transactions across the African continent. This will not only give us a physical presence in the region but also help us to meet the needs of our clients operating in this rapidly growing market.”

“Being present in China allows us to be close to clients who see trade and investment in Africa as key to their strategic ambitions,” concludes Russon.

Redfall Receives Official Release Date |

0

The vampire shooter by Arkane Studios has finally received a release date that many fans have been clamoring for. The title was announced to release on May 2, 2023 during a Xbox Developer Direct conference.

When announced in 2001, the game had a few delays to the process of its general release, but it seems we will finally get the chance at hunting vampires like I always dreamed about ever since watching “The Lost Boys”. Perhaps that is a partial inspiration for the game, as Santa Carla in “The Lost Boys” takes place in a city with the highest population of vampires that the citizens have ever seen.

However, in this game, vampires come from a scientific project gone wrong, as one to four players run through the city of Redfall, in search of the best way to eliminate the vampire community that takes a hold on the town. Gamers will be heading to Redfall sooner than later, as it is poised to release in the first half of the year. Until then, what can you look forward to? Here is some information about the cooperative mode.

Players can go online with friends to explore the threats of Redfall, picking from four different characters to choose from and two newer characters if the deluxe edition is bought. The Cryptozoologist, Devinder Crousley, is a man of science who has made it his life’s work to figure out information on all cryptids, including the vampires that inhabit Redfall. Once he moved to Redfall, it was in the middle of the vampire infestation, hence making his work of creating traps much easier than before.

The Telekenetic, Layla Ellison, has quite the backstory. While going to school as a student at Redfall University, she decided to volunteer herself for a new experiment with Aevum Therapeutics, being a biology major and all. Unfortunately, this experiment didn’t go as planned and now Layla can make, move, or destroy stuff with her mind.

The Combat Engineer, Remi De La Rosa, has seen battles as often as ever, being plunged into the midst of a vampire takeover out of all things. She has a robot friend who can travel with her and help her through the tough times, also vowing to save everyone she can as a combat medic.

The Sharpshooter, Jacob Boyer, does exactly as his title says. He roams around with a large sniper rifle, sneaking about those vampires who don’t play games or do any funny business. His blend of stealth and accuracy is a deadly combination for any blood-sucker who gets too close to his neck. Not only that, but he has a pet raven who will help him through any battle or sticky situation he gets himself into.

Redfall is also open-world, allowing you and your friends to get into the action or stealth your way around in search of survivors and better equipment. You may even find yourself not wanting to leave Redfall at all, with the cold of the moonlight reigning down as you roam around. That being said, I suggest you up your stealth skill by purchasing Escape From Tarkov items, allowing a new player to perfect the art of not being noticed. Redfall is on the way to becoming a monumental sensation, as the game looks even better than before and interestingly different from other shooters out there.

Arkane Studios is looking forward to supporting this game and already have downloadable content planned with two new characters and a boatload of updates. To those buying the game, perhaps we will cross paths. But…if a vampire spots you, then I most certainly do not know you.

Speaker Bagbin and his guests

Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, is set to receive a Footprints Award from the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) for distinguished leadership in politics and governance.

The FGBMFI award is in recognition of his “unwavering dedication” to good governance and his contributions to Ghana’s democratic stability.

With over 140 chapters in Ghana and thousands of members worldwide, FGBMFI seeks to recognise people who exemplify integrity and public spiritedness, regardless of religious affiliation.

National President of FGBMFI, Emmanuel Baba Mahama, who led a team to announce the decision to the Speaker at his office in Parliament last Friday, praised Mr. Bagbin’s commitment to promoting peace and progress in the country’s political environment.

Mr. Mahama presented a letter to the Speaker, officially inviting him to a ceremony later this year during which he would be publicly honoured.

The FGBMFI Distinguished Footprints Award will be presented for the first time at an award ceremony in Accra.

Agriculture and food security, environmental sustainability, and public spiritedness are some of the primary subject areas examined for the award.

Ghana, often regarded as one of Africa’s most stable democracies, has made significant progress in peaceful power transitions over the last three decades.

Speaker Bagbin, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has played an important role in defending democratic principles and forging bipartisan collaboration during his time.

Mr. Bagbin, while accepting to attend the programme, underscored the need for collaborative efforts in addressing Ghana’s developmental challenges.

He thanked FGBMFI for the honour and reiterated his commitment to serving the country with integrity and dedication.

PUMA unveils new Black Stars fanwear ahead of 2023 AFCON

0

Black Stars kit sponsors, PUMA have unveiled new fanwear ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana is set to wear a new jersey, which fans can also wear as produced by the German kit manufacturing company.

The attire not only showcases the vibrant colours of the Ghanaian flag but also pays homage to the country’s rich heritage through intricate ‘kente’ patterns incorporated into the design.

The kente strips represent the tradition and culture of Ghana as well as showcase the strength of the people.

The fanwear collection comes in a variety of designs and styles, with the dominant red, yellow, and green hues of the Ghanaian flag.

During the unveiling session, some of Ghana’s top football stars, including Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Kudus, and Baba Iddrisu, were captured wearing the new fanwear, demonstrating their enthusiasm and support for this exciting release.

Ghana last won the AFCON trophy in 1982 when all members of the current crop of players were not born.

However, the Black Stars have made it to the final of the competition in 1992, 2010, and 2015 with many other semi-final berths.

Ghana however have been housed in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique and will hope to win the ultimate to end the trophyless jinx.

The 34th edition of the competition will kick off on 13 January 2024 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

NPP losing democratic credentials, they must be worried about Alan’s breakaway – Haruna Iddrisu

0

Haruna Iddrisu

Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency and former Minority leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has expressed his concerns about the New Patriotic Party (NPP), suggesting that the party is gradually eroding its democratic tenets.

He believes that, the NPP’s reputation as a party known for its democratic principles is diminishing.

According to him, the allegations of intimidation raised by former party member Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and flagbearer aspirant Boakye Agyako are a matter of great concern that needs to be addressed.

These allegations, he contends, have tarnished the party’s reputation.

Speaking on JoyNews‘ Newsfile on Saturday, Mr Iddrisu emphasised the need for the NPP to be concerned about the future of the party, especially considering the significant influence that Mr Kyerematen garnered within its ranks.

He asserted that Mr Kyerematen is likely to cause some political havoc and damage to the NPP if he is able to garner about 3 to 5 percent of the total vote in the 2024 general elections.

“As a stalwart of the party, they must be worried whether he’s following we go with him or not. I have seen a number of MPs being loyal to him who have said that loyalty should never be to a person or an individual, it should be to the institution of the party.”

Mr. Iddrisu also noted that, in light of the ongoing issues within the party, there is a possibility that several Members of Parliament (MPs) may be rejected during the NPP’s Parliamentary primaries.

He further explained that these rejected MPs may decide to run as independent candidates and align themselves with the Movement for Change led by Mr. Kyerematen.

“So we may have a situation where for the first time in Parliament, the number of independents [candidates] may increase depending upon where they come from” he said.

The former Minority leader urged the NPP to rethink about the issues to improve its democratic processes.

Mr. Logic suggests Kennedy Agyapong as Bawumia’s running mate –

0

After the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries to elect their flagbearer came to a successful end, there have been public discussions about what happens to the candidates who were not able to emerge as winners and the party’s plans for such individuals.

Talent manager and entertainment pundit, Mr. Logic has asserted that left to him alone, he would advise Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to choose the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong as his running mate.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong’s experience in politics in the nation cannot be overlooked and it would be beneficial to the party going into the 2024 general elections.

Speaking as a pundit on the United Showbiz programme aired on United Television (UTV) on Saturday, November 4, 2023, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Mr. Logic urged the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to nominate Kennedy Agyapong as his running mate.

“I was going to advise that he [Dr. Bawumia] should get Kennedy Agyapong and nominate him as running mate. I don’t know if he would accept it or not. But if he is willing to support Dr. Bawumia, then he should accept it. Because John Mahama is not an easy candidate to overcome in an election,” Mr. Logic told show host MzGee.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the NPP Primaries and was formally announced as flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2024 polls.

The announcement of Dr. Bawumia’s victory was made by the Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe.

According to the official results, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won with 118,210 votes, representing 61.47% of the total votes cast.

His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, secured the second position with 71,996 votes, which accounted for 35.52% of the total valid votes.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto garnered 1,459 votes, while the fourth contender got 781 votes.

Party leaders made statements as well as losing aspirants with the major theme centering around the unity of purpose and the need to charge towards the 2024 polls with the view to retaining political power.

University of Ghana students get free laptops –

0

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has supervised the distribution of free laptops to a section of students of the institution.

The distribution, which went down at an event at the Cedi Conference Centre on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, saw in attendance several delegates from the University of Ghana.

In a speech addressing the attendees of the event, VC Nana Aba disclosed that her Digitization Initiative to equip students with the necessary technological skills has seen three distribution ceremonies of laptops to students since its inception.

She made this address in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on the X page of Univers FM.

“We thank the chair and members of the implementation committee. They took the concept, developed it and ran with it and I think this the third distribution ceremony if we discount the one, we did exclusively for graduate students,” she said.

In October this year, Vice Chancellor Nana Aba Appiah shared with Joynews that the university is far advanced with plans to build a computer assembling plant on the school’s premises.

She said this initiative has far advanced and will fully become operational within a year.

“We are actually looking to assemble laptops right here on campus. So, we’ve gone through the process to select the companies, and signed the agreements, so very soon we should break ground for the assembling plant.

“Right at the beginning we are getting to supply, we’ve signed that agreement. Getting the assembling plant and all will take a bit of time but 0t the same time we’ve also signed the agreement to start that so I believe that within a year we will be able to move over to get the laptops assembled here,” she said.

The ‘One Student One Laptop Initiative’ seeks to employ innovative mechanisms to equip students and staff of the University with affordable and free laptops/handheld devices through partnerships with established Information Technology (IT) companies to enhance teaching and learning and reduce the digital divide.

Ugandan Students’ Parents Submit DNA Samples To ID Massacre Victims |

0

Parents of students missing after an attack on a school in western Uganda are flocking to the local police station to submit DNA samples that could identify their children among the 42 bodies that have been recovered.

One of Uganda’s biggest massacres in recent decades occurred Friday night at Lhubirira Secondary School. Assailants set a dormitory full of boys alight, then attacked a dormitory full of girls, hacking victims to death with machetes and knives.

Six students were also abducted by the attackers, who the authorities say were fighters from an Islamic State-affiliated group based across the border in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Regional police commander Tai Ramadhan said many of the dead bodies were charred beyond recognition, forcing investigators to use DNA samples from relatives to try to identify them.

Simon Kule, who had come to Bwera Police Station to give a DNA sample, was still looking for his son, Philmon Mumbere.

“So they should help us to know – either these people are still there or they are in the mortuary so that we should prepare in time.”

Solomon Mulekya was looking for his daughter, Trephine Kaghuo.

“We are not happy, because we have lost our children,” he said. “I’m there in suspense, whether the rebels they have taken her or we don’t know they killed her along the way.”

Authorities said on Monday that 20 suspected “collaborators” of the attackers, including the school’s head teacher, had been detained for questioning.

‘Only Poor People Believe Jesus Is Coming Back To Take Them To Heaven’ – Ajagurajah ‘Punches’ Christians |

Spiritual leader of the Ajagurajah Movement in Ghana, Bishop Kwabena Boakye Asiamah has rubbished the Christian belief in the existence of Heaven.

Christians believe the dead will transition while the living is raptured to a place called Heaven during what they also believe will be the second coming of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.

But Bishop Kwabena Boakye Asiamah, poplularly referred to as “Ajagurajah”, says no person is going to Heaven.

According to him, Heaven is the abode for only Angels.

“Heaven is not for humans. Heaven is for Angels,” he told host of UTV’s Saturday Entertainment show “United ” host, MzGee.

“Only poor people think Jesus is coming back to take them to Heaven,” he chuckled while delivering his message on the show.

He added that Heaven is a creation by White people to indoctrinate Africans, Ghanaians to be specific, so as to steal their precious minerals like gold as well as have Africans play second fiddle to them.

Alan Speaks Tomorrow –

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the presidential candidate hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to address the public on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, following the analysis of the results of the Special Electoral College Election by his ‘Alan for President (A4P) 2024’ campaign team.

The broadcast will take place at 10am in the morning.

This announcement comes after Kyerematen, former Minister of Trade and Industry, pledged to deliver a public broadcast later this week to outline the next steps for his campaign in light of the analysis.

Kyerematen had recently been selected as one of the presidential aspirants to compete in the upcoming November 4, 2023 presidential primary of the NPP.

However, during the selection process, he placed third behind Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

Expressing his gratitude, Kyerematen thanked God for His grace and guidance throughout his political journey.

He also congratulated his fellow candidates who took part in the selection process, acknowledging their efforts and commitment.

The politician took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the delegates of the Special Electoral College who voted for him, highlighting the importance of their role in the initial selection process.

He also extended his gratitude to his family, the Alan for President (A4P) 2024 campaign team, and members of the Pro-Alan Groups for their dedicated support towards his campaign agenda.

However, amidst his joy of being selected, Kyerematen expressed deep sorrow over a violent incident that occurred during the selection process, where one of his agents was reportedly assaulted.

He condemned the brutal assault, considering it a stain on the integrity of the internal democratic process within the NPP. Kyerematen wished his colleague a speedy recovery and assured him and his family of his unwavering support for their well-being.

Kyerematen reassured his supporters, especially those at the grassroots level, that the battle still belongs to the Lord, and those who wait upon Him will have their strength renewed.

He concluded his statement by praying for blessings upon Ghana and expressing his hope for a great and strong nation.
