NPP and NDC illegal miners have merged to intensify galamsey

Convenor for the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Dr Ken Ashigbey Convenor for the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Dr Ken Ashigbey

The Convenor for the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Dr Ken Ashigbey, has alleged that members of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) are involved in illegal mining activities.

Speaking during an interview on TV3, and monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, April 7, 2025, he claimed that since the John Dramani Mahama government assumed office, the NDC had taken a significant control of the illegal mining operations.

“The NDC will say it is my government that is in power. But you know what the NPP people have done? They’ve gone behind them, they have done a merger, so now the NDC who claim that their party is in power they have 70 percent of the booty and then these NPP who were doing it before have now joined hands with the NDC, because they have the excavators and all of those things there, so they have joined hands,” he stated.

He further urged President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against illegal mining activities.

“So, if John Mahama wants to deal with this, then he needs to lighten the burden of Murtala, and Armah-Kofi Buah, and all those he has put in charge. Then he needs to deal with the political class who are exposed,” he added.

Meanwhile, the lands minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has affirmed government’s commitment to clamping down on illegal mining activities.

Addressing the media on April 3, 2025, he stated that the government is exploring all possible measures, including the declaration of a state of emergency and a temporary ban on small-scale mining.

“This government is committed to fighting this galamsey menace. Those who are involved in galamsey and their political collaborators must be warned. Any attempt to make calls for the release of an excavator or a person arrested for galamsey will not be countenanced at all; they will not succeed,” he stressed.

Alliance of Sahel States recalls ambassadors as tension with Algeria rises

Foreign ministers of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger in Moscow to attend a meeting Foreign ministers of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger in Moscow to attend a meeting

Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have recalled their ambassadors from Algeria in response to the downing of a Malian drone.

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), a confederation of the three African nations, accused Algeria of an “irresponsible act” that violated international law as it announced the withdrawals on social media on Monday.

The move escalates tension between the trio of allied military governments and Algeria.

The AES said it considers the act “an aggression against the entire confederation” and “contrary to historical relations and fraternal relations between the peoples of the AES confederation and the Algerian people”.

The envoys have been recalled for consultations over the contribution “to destabilisation in the region”, the AES added.

The destruction of the aircraft, which was flying near the Algerian border town of Tin Zaouatine on the night of March 31-April 1, “prevented the neutralization of a terrorist group that was planning terrorist acts against the AES”, an AES statement said.

Separately, Prime Minister General Abdoulaye Maiga, leader of Mali’s military authorities, asserted that the incident proves “that the Algerian regime sponsors international terrorism”.

Algiers claimed earlier in the week that the drone was targeted as it had violated its airspace by more than 2km (1.2 miles), and called it an “armed surveillance drone”.

Bamako said a preliminary investigation has revealed that the drone was flying over Malian territory about 10km (6 miles) from the Algerian border.

Shifting dynamics

The AES was formed last year in the aftermath of several coups and following the exit of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger from the nearly 50-year-old regional bloc known as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The three countries, located in the Sahel region on the southern edge of the Sahara, have been plagued for years by armed groups affiliated with ISIL (ISIS) and al-Qaeda that carry out bloody attacks on civilians and increasingly control territory.

Algeria served for many years as a key mediator as Mali’s government faced off against Tuareg rebels for decades after the country gained independence from France in 1960, but tension has been growing in recent months.

However, two military coups in Mali in 2020 and 2021 shifted dynamics, pushing the two countries away from each other, with Mali and the other AES members moving to cut links with France and strengthen ties with Russia.

Algerian officials have denounced Mali’s use of Russian mercenaries and armed drones near Tin Zaouatine, the border town in the northern part of the country where the drone was found.

Tema-Aflao Highway works resume with funding assured

0

Work has resumed on the Tema-Aflao highway, following assurances from the Ministry of Roads and Highways to BHM Construction Company Limited that funding will be reinstated.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, during a recent road inspection tour, called on contractors, including BHM Construction Company, to return to project sites, assuring them of the government’s commitment to restoring funds for the road works halted under the Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
The Tema-Aflao project had been suspended since December 2022, when the debt restructuring policy introduced by the previous Akufo-Addo administration triggered a funding freeze on several key infrastructure projects across the country.

In response to the Minister’s directive, BHM Construction has returned to the site and resumed work on the highway.

Upon their arrival, the company also appealed to the government to fast-track outstanding payments to ensure continued progress.

Briefing the press on Monday, April 7, Country Managing Director for BHM Ghana, Adrian Wilson, expressed optimism about the future of the project, citing the government’s renewed commitment.

“As we resume the Tema-Aflao Interchange Programme project, we have been delighted by the recent reassurances over the year by the government with regards to the agreement for funding the bill on the road to start construction. On that, we have decided to start the work again,” he stated.

TheHealthReport25: The vital role of beekeeping in promoting health and wellness in Ghana

0

Introduction

The National Beekeepers Association of Ghana is honored to contribute to The Health Report, an initiative that underscores critical strides within the nation’s health sector. Bees—nature’s environmental custodians—provide a wealth of benefits that ripple across human health, environmental sustainability, and economic development.

We aim to spotlight the indispensable role of beekeeping in promoting health and wellness, which extends far beyond honey. Through nutritional, medicinal, and ecological contributions, beekeeping emerges as a vital pillar supporting Ghana’s strides towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The nutritional benefits of honey

Honey, nature’s liquid gold, remains a nutritional powerhouse. Its dense composition of natural sugars, enzymes, amino acids, and antioxidants makes it an unparalleled dietary resource. In a nation grappling with malnutrition and food insecurity in certain regions, honey’s affordability and shelf stability makes it a critical solution. Its diverse benefits include:

  • Boosting immunity: Honey strengthens the immune system, due to its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, reducing susceptibility to illnesses.
  • Energy provision: Its natural sugars provide a quick yet sustainable energy source, ideal for children, athletes, and labor-intensive workers.
  • Healing agent: Traditionally used to treat wounds, honey’s antibacterial qualities accelerate recovery from minor cuts, burns, and ulcers.

The integration of honey into school feeding programs, hospitals, and household diets can significantly uplift national health standards.

Beeswax and propolis: hidden health treasures

Beyond honey, other hive products like beeswax and propolis provide immense value to holistic healthcare:

  • Beeswax: Essential in the production of balms, ointments, and candles, beeswax offers soothing and moisturizing properties for skincare. Its hypoallergenic and anti-inflammatory nature makes it an excellent remedy for eczema, burns, and sensitive skin conditions.
  • Propolis: Known as “bee glue,” this resin is a natural antibiotic and has been shown to combat viruses, bacteria, and fungi. In an era of growing antibiotic resistance, propolis emerges as a promising alternative for combating infections.

Furthermore, promoting these products can diversify the economic value of beekeeping while enriching Ghanaian healthcare solutions.

Bee venom: cutting-edge medical applications

Bee venom therapy (BVT) has been recognized globally as a groundbreaking avenue for treating chronic illnesses. Its active compounds, such as melittin and apamin, stimulate healing pathways in the body. Research has explored its applications in:

  1. Rheumatoid arthritis: Melittin reduces swelling and inflammation in patients with arthritis, alleviating pain without harsh side effects.
  2. Neurological health: Bee venom shows promise for treating conditions like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases by protecting nerve cells.
  3. Immunotherapy: Carefully controlled doses of venom can desensitize those with severe allergies to bee stings.
  4. Skin regeneration: The collagen-boosting effects of bee venom are highly valued in anti-aging and therapeutic dermatology.

Ghana’s integration of bee venom into modern medicine could unlock cutting-edge treatment options for chronic and lifestyle-related diseases.

Beekeeping as a catalyst for mental wellness

Mental health represents an essential yet understated dimension of wellness. Beekeeping, a calming and purposeful activity, offers profound therapeutic benefits:

  • Stress reduction: The act of tending to bees requires patience and mindfulness, which can alleviate stress and improve mental clarity.
  • Community building: Beekeeping fosters social interaction and empowerment, particularly in rural areas where community-focused initiatives thrive.
  • Restorative practices: Interaction with natural ecosystems has been proven to enhance overall mental well-being, combating anxiety and depression.

Programs that promote beekeeping as a livelihood strategy for at-risk populations, such as youth and women, also address broader socio-economic challenges.

Pollination: the bedrock of food security

Bees are the unsung heroes of food security. As primary pollinators, bees enhance crop yields and biodiversity, directly affecting the availability of nutritious food. In Ghana where agriculture supports the majority of the population, the role of pollinators is critical. Key contributions include:

  • Increased agricultural yields: Pollinated crops like cocoa, cashews, and mangoes yield higher harvests, contributing to Ghana’s agricultural exports.
  • Nutritional diversity: Access to fruits, vegetables, and nuts improves dietary balance, preventing malnutrition and lifestyle diseases.
  • Climate resilience: Bees maintain biodiversity, which strengthens ecosystems against environmental shocks like droughts.

By protecting bee populations and promoting beekeeping, Ghana can ensure resilience in its agricultural and food systems.

Challenges facing the beekeeping sector

Despite its monumental advantages, the beekeeping industry in Ghana faces several pressing challenges:

  1. Deforestation: The loss of forests reduces natural habitats for bees, affecting both wild bee populations and apiaries.
  2. Climate Change: Unpredictable weather patterns impact honeybee behavior and productivity, endangering pollination cycles.
  3. Limited Resources: Many local beekeepers lack access to modern tools, training, and financial support to expand their operations.
  4. Public Awareness: Misinformation about the importance of bees often leads to unnecessary destruction of colonies, jeopardizing ecological stability.

Addressing these challenges through multi-sector collaboration is imperative for beekeeping to thrive as a health-promoting activity.

Call for investment and collaboration

The beekeeping sector presents significant untapped potential for health, agriculture, and economic growth. To realize its full promise, strategic investments and partnerships are crucial:

  • Training programs: Educating beekeepers on modern techniques will increase productivity and product quality.
  • Research and development: Scientific studies on indigenous bee species and their potential applications could uncover groundbreaking innovations.
  • Policy support: Government incentives and subsidies can lower barriers for small-scale beekeepers.

Public and private sector partnerships must unite to create a vibrant ecosystem that places Ghana as a global leader in sustainable beekeeping practices.

Conclusion

Beekeeping is a remarkable yet underutilized avenue for enhancing health and wellness in Ghana. From providing superfoods like honey to advancing medical innovations with bee venom, the contributions of bees extend far beyond their size.

By protecting and promoting beekeeping, we protect not only our environment but also the health and future of our nation. The National Beekeepers Association of Ghana urges stakeholders across sectors to join hands in cultivating a culture of sustainability that prioritizes bees—and by extension, the well-being of all Ghanaians.

Bawah Mogtari demands GHS10m compensation from Abronye for defamation

0

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has issued a formal demand to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), requesting an unqualified apology and a GH₵10 million compensation over what she describes as defamatory remarks made during a televised interview.

The legal notice, dated April 3, 2025, and issued by R.O. Solomon Consulting, accuses Abronye of making “false, reckless, and malicious” statements on Net 2 TV on March 26, 2025.

During the broadcast, Abronye allegedly claimed that Mrs. Mogtari was advised against pursuing a ministerial role and instead opted for a “stress-free presidential staffer position” with a monthly salary of GHS95,000. He reportedly went further to say this had made her “disrespectful to Ghanaians.”

According to the letter, these statements have since circulated widely online, including on platforms such as GhanaWeb, subjecting Mrs. Mogtari to “serious embarrassment,” public ridicule, and reputational harm.

The legal team argues that the remarks have sparked a wave of disparaging public commentary and persistent inquiries from both personal and professional circles.

They emphasized that Abronye’s statements were not only factually incorrect but also lacked any justification—especially given that details about Mrs. Mogtari’s appointment are not classified and could have been easily verified.

As a result, the legal team is demanding the following:

  1. An immediate retraction and public apology published across platforms that disseminated the statements, including Net 2 TV, Ghanaweb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM.

  2. Compensation of GHS10 million for the damage caused to Mrs. Mogtari’s reputation and image.

5 controversial moments from the Ghana Music Awards since 2008

0

Stonebwoy, Irene and Jane, Shatta Wale Stonebwoy, Irene and Jane, Shatta Wale

The Ghana Music Awards, now known as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, is one of the country’s biggest and longest-running award schemes.

With such a reputation, it has experienced its fair share of controversies involving artistes, audiences, the media, and other stakeholders.

From boos to walk-outs to stage invasions, here are some of the most controversial moments in the history of the Ghana Music Awards.

1. Dumsor in the hall (2006)

The 2006 Ghana Music Awards started like any other night, performances scheduled, award plaques ready, and the venue prepped. However, midway through the night, during Becca’s performance, the lights went out, knocking out all the microphones and power sources on stage.

Later, CharterHouse explained that the power cut was caused by a problem with the generators. Although CharterHouse had invested heavily in generators to avoid relying on the Electricity Company of Ghana, the generators failed, causing a 20-minute blackout at the National Theatre.

As technicians scrambled to fix the issue, an infuriated audience demanded a refund of their tickets. Eventually, the lights came back on, and the ever-talented Samini lifted spirits with an electrifying performance.

2. Boos from the Audience (2008)

Controversy erupted at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards when the winner of the Best Female Vocal Performance award was announced. The category was hotly contested, with top female artists like Cee, Ohemaa Mercy, Becca, Diana Hamilton Antwi, and music duo Irene and Jane.

Ohemaa Mercy and Becca were considered the frontrunners, but the award went to Irene and Jane, a duo who had previously won the CharterHouse-organized reality TV show, “Stars of the Future,” and were being produced and managed by the same outfit. Their win, unexpected by many, infuriated the audience.

As the duo climbed the stage, loud boos echoed from the crowd, making this one of the most embarrassing moments in GMA history.

3. Shatta Wale (2013 & 2016)

The 2013 (then Vodafone) Ghana Music Awards went smoothly until the winner for ‘Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year’ was announced. The category, which included Blakk Rasta, Samini, Kaakie, Eazzy, Jupiter, and Shatta Wale (then known as Bandana), saw Kaakie win for her song “Toffee Pon Tongue.”

Shatta Wale was furious and stormed out of the venue, later recording videos in which he insulted both CharterHouse and Kaakie, even releasing a song where he claimed he didn’t need any awards.

After a lawsuit and public apology, the issue was resolved. However, tensions resurfaced in 2016, leading to a ban on Shatta Wale, which was eventually lifted.

4. Shatta Wale vs Stonebwoy (2019)

The 20th edition of the Ghana Music Awards (Vodafone) was marred by a violent altercation. When Stonebwoy was announced as the winner of Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Shatta Wale and his entourage rushed the stage, leading to a confrontation between the two artistes’ teams.

In the chaos, Stonebwoy was seen brandishing a gun, causing many guests to flee the venue. As a result, CharterHouse stripped both artists of their titles and issued an indefinite ban from the awards. The Artiste of the Year award was not announced that year.

While the ban was later lifted, Shatta Wale has yet to return to the awards scheme

Crude oil falls below $60 for first time since 2021

The drop reflected on Sunday, April 6, 2025 The drop reflected on Sunday, April 6, 2025

Following the imposition of tariffs on some countries by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, oil prices have plunged below $60 for the first time since 2021.

The drop, which was reflected on Sunday, April 6, 2025, saw a 3% reduction in crude oil prices, with oil selling at $59.78.

According to U.S. West Texas Intermediate, the decline in price can be attributed to the consistent 6% reductions that occurred last week.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. stated that the U.S. and global economy are likely to enter a recession this year.

This, they said, was due to the impact of tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.

JPMorgan explained that the tariffs, which are set to take effect this week, “would likely push the U.S. and possibly the global economy into recession this year.”

Market watchers and the business community at large have bemoaned the negative implications this directive would have on them and on global economies.

This would lead to a slowdown in economic activities as well as affect the demand for oil.

The programme, launched by the Triage Centre/Sangy Global in partnership with Lifetime Mentor and Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, began in March 2025 with an impactful session in Weija Gbawe.

There, 300 students engaged in interactive mentorship focused on leadership development, critical thinking, and teamwork.

Building on that success, the April, 2025 edition of the programme began at the weekend in Okaikwei Central, with nearly 300 students from five schools taking part.

This phase places a strong emphasis on Information Technology and Understanding Artificial Intelligence, offering students hands-on learning experiences to prepare them for leadership in the digital age.

Each Saturday throughout April, students from Apenkwa Presbyterian Basic 1 and 2, Tesano 1 Basic, Answarudeen Islamic Basic School, and Abeka 2 Basic will gather for mentorship sessions.

Guided by experienced professionals, they will explore real-world applications of technology, develop problem-solving skills, and build confidence in their ability to make a difference in their communities.

The mentorship programme will culminate in a graduation ceremony on the last Saturday of April, 2025 where students will showcase their projects, skills, and learnings — a celebration of their growth and potential.

This initiative forms part of a broader youth empowerment drive supported by MP Boamah.

In March this year, several key programmes were also launched.

These include the Paint Ghana Project, which began at Weija Presby JHS with over 680 students in attendance, aiming to improve the appearance of schools across the country.

The Pre-Emergency Health Training Programme was also introduced to provide essential life-saving skills at the community level.

Additionally, the National Rotation/Student Nurses and Midwives Mentorship Programme welcomed 30 mentees into a new phase of guided professional development.

With its focus on mentorship, technology, and patriotism, the Young Leaders Programme continues to inspire and empower students — not only in Okaikwei Central, but across Ghana, as it prepares to expand to more constituencies in the near future.

Flutterwave expands remittance services with Ghana launch

0

Flutterwave has rolled out the Send App in Ghana, enabling individuals and businesses to receive international remittances directly into local bank accounts.

Users can also receive remittances in mobile money wallets, including MTN Mobile Money, Telecel Cash, and AirtelTigo Money.

The move is part of Flutterwave’s efforts to expand digital financial access across Africa by simplifying how money is sent and received across borders. In essence, with this launch, residents in Ghana can now receive payments from abroad with fewer intermediaries and reduced friction.

Flutterwave has rolled out the Send App in Ghana, enabling individuals and businesses to receive international remittances directly into local bank accounts.

A focus on security and direct access

According to representatives from Flutterwave, the app is certified at PCI-DSS Level 1, which the highest recognised security benchmark in the payments industry. This aims to ensure that transactions are encrypted and safeguarded against fraud or unauthorised access.

Company officials said the app is designed to facilitate everyday cross-border transfers, whether for educational expenses, family support, or commercial needs. The platform aims to reduce complexity in remittance processes while maintaining competitive transaction fees.

Representatives from Flutterwave noted that the launch in Ghana fits into the firm’s wider goal of improving financial connectivity between Africa and global markets. They added that the app provides a straightforward way for users to access international payments, which they believe contributes to long-term economic integration in the region.

The Send App was previously made available in other African markets, and its entry into Ghana is expected to improve its user base in West Africa. According to the company, the platform is looking to to remove barriers often associated with legacy financial systems and offer users a consistent remittance experience.

A Flutterwave official involved in product development said that the company continues to explore digital tools to simplify cross-border money movement and intends to support communities by maintaining easy-to-use, secure, and efficient payment channels.

Adwoa Safo fumes, says NPP disciplinary c’ttee postponed hearing without her knowledge

0

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has expressed her frustration with the party’s disciplinary committee, after the committee failed to inform her about the postponement of her scheduled appearance.

The decision to summon her to the disciplinary committee followed her comments on JoyNews’ The Pulse show, which the party leadership viewed as a direct violation of an earlier directive prohibiting members from discussing matters that could create disaffection and unrest within the party.

In response to the summons, she arrived at the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra on Monday, 7 April, fully prepared for her hearing. Before her arrival, some party supporters stormed the office to show their support.

However, she discovered that no committee was sitting, and instead, she was met by just one party official.

Adwoa Safo was particularly frustrated as the NPP had served her with a summons letter on a Sunday, but failed to inform her of any changes to the plans.

“There was no committee sitting today,” she explained. “I had an engagement with a national party officer, but there was no hearing. I’m left wondering why I was served a summons on a Sunday for a meeting that didn’t take place. If there was a change of plans, why wasn’t I personally informed? Why wasn’t I contacted by phone? Some of you have my number directly.”

She further voiced her frustration over the lack of communication, particularly as she had arrived fully prepared for the meeting.

She also emphasised that the party needed to handle such matters with professionalism and seriousness.

“As a party, we need to take these matters more seriously,” she said. “I came here ready for the committee meeting, but now I find myself in a situation where there’s no hearing, no committee, and no explanation. This could have been handled much more effectively.”

As a lawyer, she pointed out that when someone is referred to a disciplinary committee, the presumption is that they have committed a wrongdoing and are facing disciplinary action.

That is the purpose of the disciplinary committee. So, why ridicule me in public and then tell me that the committee isn’t even sitting? she quizzed.

“The message being sent to the public is that I have done something wrong, something untoward, and that I have come here to be disciplined,” he said.

I’ve come here, but there is no one here, which suggests the case is either baseless or there is no finding on it. I thought this matter could have been handled better, which is why I came here today to see what was happening, only to find nothing has been done.” Is this how I’m being treated? It’s disheartening.”

Adwoa Safo reaffirmed her commitment to the party and confirmed her availability for any future disciplinary hearings, should she be called upon.

“I will be available to appear before the party whenever I’m called upon,” she said.

US-Ghana ties remain resolute despite 10% tariff imposition – Ambassador Palmer

0

US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has noted that the relationship between Ghana and the US remains resolute amidst the recent imposition of a 10% tariff on Ghana.

According to her, Ghana must position itself to derive the most from the directive.

She said this in a media interview after a closed-door meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on April 7, 2025

She said, “We talked about how the relationship with Ghana is very strong and how we can keep it going. I hope it means Ghana will get some benefits vis-a-vis its competitors. We will continue to talk.”

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said on April 4, 2025, that he has arranged a meeting with the United States Ambassador to Ghana to discuss President Donald Trump’s recent decision to impose a 10% tariff on Ghanaian exports.

He stated that the meeting was intended to provide clarity on the rationale behind the U.S. government’s trade decision.

“I can confirm that I have invited the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer, to my office on Monday morning to provide clarifications and reasons for President Trump’s imposition of a 10% tariff on Ghana,” Ablakwa wrote on his X page on April 4, 2025.

This follows President Donald Trump’s announcement on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, of sweeping new tariffs on nearly all of the United States’ trading partners.

Ghanaian exports to the U.S. are now subject to a 10% tariff. China was hit with a 34% tax on imports, while goods from the European market face a 20% levy, measures that analysts warn could dismantle key pillars of the global trade system and spark wider trade conflicts.

The move is expected to impact trade significantly, as the cost of both exports and imports will rise.

My boyfriend’s manhood is not normal and I’m scared to continue the relationship

0

File photo of a worried woman File photo of a worried woman

Dear GhanaWeb,

There is this guy I’ve admired for years, ever since I finished senior high school.

He is a quiet, reserved person who doesn’t talk much, and he is not really into plenty of girls. Fortunately, we’ve been in the same area, so I’ve known him for a while now.

At first, I struggled to get his attention because of how shy and introverted he is. But I kept trying, talking to him whenever I saw him and doing little things here and there.

Eventually, he asked for my number. Oddly enough, he wanted it so he could send me money to buy him honey!

That was the start of us talking more, though I was mostly the one initiating the conversations.

Over time, he started noticing the green flags I was giving him and decided to take things further.

He eventually asked if I was seeing anyone, and when I said no, he proposed to me. And just like that, we began dating.

In the beginning, our relationship was mostly texting with no real, deep conversations. So, I decided to spice things up a bit by being a little flirtatious and saying naughty things to ignite some excitement.

He invited me to his place a few times, but he never made any move or attempt to get physical.

One day, during a phone call, I told him that he shouldn’t feel shy or worried, and that I wasn’t scared of sex. I also made it clear that I don’t believe in waiting until marriage for sex. He just replied with an “okay.”

Last week when I went to visit him, he was wearing a jersey shorts, I saw his manhood jiggling and I was turned on.

I intentionally started seducing him till his mind was drawn closer and he began caressing and kissing me. I was so happy until he brought out his manhood and I became so frightened.

It wasn’t a normal penis I’m used to. I thought it was a snake at the first glance before I second gazed and saw it was his manhood.

It was so big and long, he pulled it out of his shorts like we take snake out of the bag. It was not even hard or standing, it was just looking down and nodding. I shouted and rushed out. When I got home, I realised I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did.

He has since not called me nor answered any of my calls. I know he is angry and has been avoiding me.

I don’t want the relationship anymore, I’m done with him, but I just feel I should apologise for shouting and running away.

Either he is suffering from some disease, or he took some drugs to get that as side effect because what I saw wasn’t normal.

I thank God, I saw it earlier because if he should put it in me, I would have died.

How do I get him to talk to me and listen to my apology? I’m confused and I don’t know what to do now. Should I just ignore him?

I don’t want him to see me as an enemy because we are still in the same neighbourhood. I need help on what to do next.

Inconsistencies in Ntim Fordjour’s claims raises important questions – Kwesi Pratt Jr

0

Kwesi Pratt Jr, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper Kwesi Pratt Jr, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr, has demanded clarity over the differing accounts given by Rev John Ntim Fordjour, regarding who he seeks to represent in his claim of possible money laundering and cocaine trafficking at the Kotoka International Airport.

Speaking to the developing story on the suspicious aircrafts that landed in the country in March, on Pan African TV on April 6, 2025, Pratt indicated his difficulty in appreciating the conflicting reports about who Ntim Fordjour was speaking for and the inconsistencies in his account.

“I have been listening to Ntim Fordjour and I really pity him, because at his press conference, according to his own claim, he was speaking on behalf of the Minority in Parliament. Then sometime later, the same person is not speaking for the Minority, but he is speaking for a committee of Parliament. So, he doesn’t even know who he is speaking for?

“Is he speaking for the Minority in Parliament or for a committee of Parliament? You cannot interchange the two positions. You’re either speaking for the Minority or for a committee which include all political parties represented in Parliament. He cannot conflict the two. So, he must be clear in his mind, whether he is speaking for the Minority or he’s speaking for a committee,” Kwesi Pratt Jr said.

The veteran journalist expressed worry over the lack of clarity in Ntim Forjour’s report, stating that it raises important questions.

“The lack of clarity in itself, raises a lot of important questions. Now, we know that at least, his position that he speaks for the committee is doubtful, because the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior, James Agalga, has said that he does not speak for them,” he added.

Pratt also pointed out differing accounts by the Assin South MP.

He noted that initially, he stated that he had picked intel on possible drug and money laundering that needed to be probed by relevant authorities.

In later reports, he had sought to outrightly state that the country was a transit hub for drug trafficking.

“If you listen closely to his first press conference, it was very confusing. You will hear him say that he has received information on a matter and that he would want to be investigated; that’s on one breath. Then at another point, he actually emphatically makes the claim that Ghana has become a hub for money laundering and drug trafficking. How do you reconcile these two positions?” he quizzed.

It is against this backdrop that Kwesi Pratt Jr questioned the authenticity of the MP’s claims that the two aircrafts that passed through Ghana were carrying drugs and were involved in money laundering.

Pratt’s reaction follows Ntim Fordjour’s call for an urgent briefing on the contents of two aircrafts — AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B — which he alleged were conveying cocaine and cash into the country.

President John Dramani Mahama after the claim has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

How I became a Buddhist while playing in Bhutan

0

L-R: Jospeh Baah and a Buddhist art L-R: Jospeh Baah and a Buddhist art

Retired Ghanaian footballer Joseph Baah has revealed that he practised Buddhism at some point in his career when he played in Bhutan.

Sharing his experience, he stated that he joined FC Terton, a club based in Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom in South Asia located between China and India.

He explained that although he was a Christian before making the move, he did not want to feel like an outsider.

He, therefore, converted to Buddhism to gain the trust and acceptance of his teammates.

“I am a Christian, but I became a Buddhist when I went to Bhutan. How else would they like you? I wanted the team and the environment I was in to love and trust me. I had heard about Buddha in Ghana, so it wasn’t new to me,” he said on the Gajio Podcast on YouTube.

Baah added that he was also fascinated by the Bhutanese culture, particularly their low crime rate.

“When I arrived, after one or two weeks, I realized they were genuine people. In Bhutan, nobody steals. If people find lost items, they take them to the police, and the crime rate is very low. So I wanted to be a part of that. I would return to Christianity when I came back to Ghana,” he said.

Describing his experience with Buddhism, he noted that the religion is not much different from Christianity and Islam.

He explained that Buddhists are taught morals similar to those of the other two religions.

“It is just like Christianity. They have places of worship and monks who lead and teach us what to do and what not to do. Their teachings are the same as Christianity and Islam—do not steal, do not speak ill of others, and similar principles.”

Joseph Baah played for Bhutanese side FC Terton towards the end of his career. However, recurring knee injuries ultimately forced him into early retirement in the 2019/2020 season.

He is currently the head coach of Ghana Women’s Premier League side Jonina Ladies, competing in the Southen Zone.

CDS Africa petitions Mahama to defy calls to remove Jean Mensa

0

The Africa Center for Democracy and Socioeconomic Development (CDS Africa) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to disregard petitions seeking the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and her fellow commissioners: Mr. Samuel Tetteh, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, and Dr. Peter Appiahene.

CDS Africa made this appeal through a petition dated March 4, 2025, addressed to the Presidency.

In the petition, CDS Africa acknowledged the calls from individuals and organizations, including the Positive Transparency & Accountability Movement-Ghana and Mr. Ofosu-Appiah Daniel, for the removal of the commissioners.

While recognizing that these calls may have legal merit, the institution emphasized that retaining the current commissioners would promote national stability, preserve institutional independence, and advance Ghana’s democratic progress over political expediency.

“By choosing not to forward these petitions to the Chief Justice for action, Your Excellency would reaffirm your commitment to strengthening our democracy and ensuring that Ghana’s Electoral Commission remains a truly independent institution, free from political interference,” the petition read.

CDS Africa further urged President Mahama to set a historic precedent by retaining the Electoral Commissioners appointed by his predecessor.

“You have the opportunity to set a historic precedent—one that prevents future presidents from removing Electoral Commissioners appointed by their predecessors, thereby shielding the EC from undue political influence,” the petition concluded.

Shama (W/R), April 7, GNA – The Shama District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised an educational tour of some state institutions for its Civic Education Clubs in three selected basic schools within the District.

The tour was aimed at helping the members of the clubs to get familiarised with the state institutions and their various mandates as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

The participating schools were Shama Catholic Junior High School (JHS), Shama Model JHS, and Shama Methodist JHS.

They visited the Shama District Court, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the National Ambulance Service, and Ghana Police Service all within the district.

At the District Court, the students were taken through the three arms of government and their functions, namely the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary.

They were also educated on the types of courts, heads of the courts, proceedings at court, and types of cases being handled at a particular court.

Mrs Patience Ashami Ablorh, the Shama District Court Judge, cautioned that students to desist from acts that could hinder them from becoming successful and responsible in future.

At the Shama GNFS Station, the District Fire Officer, Mr Emmanuel Bonney took the team through their main mandates, and how they carried out their duties during fire outbreaks.

He sensitised them on some of the proactive steps to take during fire cases to help prevent loss of lives and properties.

Officials of the Shama District Police Command also took turns to educate them on their mandates and strategies to provide security and safety for everyone in society.

Ms Grace Ahenakwah, the Officer-In-Charge of Shama District NCCE, said the tour was part of efforts to acquaint the students with the duties and mandates of state

institutions so they could know their roles and responsibilities as citizens for nation building.

According to the Public Relations Officer of GES in the Ashanti Region, Henry Osei Boateng, the committee will begin its work immediately, and its findings will determine the necessary sanctions to be imposed.

“The regional directorate has formed a committee, and that committee will start work today. We are waiting for some of the members to come. The school is under a metro, so we have a representative from the metro and a representative from the SDA unit.

“The regional director will lead in terms of reference with other members, so very soon, they will go to the school and start their investigation, and the outcome of it will be made public for everybody to hear,” Boateng stated.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025, following an argument among students over the functionality of a firearm allegedly in the possession of Bernard Amoabeng, a Form Two student. The disagreement escalated into a shooting, injuring two students. Amoabeng is currently in police custody.

One of the victims, identified as Penamang, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He has since been discharged but remains under medical review.

In response to the incident, the GES headquarters has directed that immediate and continuous search exercises be conducted across senior high schools to prevent similar occurrences. To support this initiative, Boateng indicated that teachers will receive proper training on how to carry out the searches effectively.

He emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of students remain a top priority, and the GES will strengthen security measures across all campuses.

According to a citinewsroom.com report, he emphasised the need to crack down on repeat offenders who return to restricted zones after military operations have cleared them.

He urged Ghanaians in Nigeria to support the national effort to combat illegal mining, assuring them that every necessary measure would be taken to bring the menace under control.

‘Nobody cares if MC Portfolio is not on our side’ – Vida Adutwumwaa

PRO Vida Adutwumwaa (L) and Entertainment pundit MC Portfolio (R) PRO Vida Adutwumwaa (L) and Entertainment pundit MC Portfolio (R)

The Public Relations Officer of Burniton Music Group, Vida Adutwumwaa, has stated that their camp has no issue with MC Portfolio supporting King Paluta for this year’s ‘Artiste of the Year’ award at the forthcoming TGMAs.

She made these statements while urging MC Portfolio to stop spreading false allegations on social media about Stonebwoy’s fans allegedly attacking him for backing King Paluta.

She said MC Portfolio should desist from portraying Stonebwoy as intolerant, adding that his rants make him come across in that light.

“We don’t have any problem with MC Portfolio if he decides to do the Oseikrom agenda this year. But to go sit on DJ Slim’s podcast and make it seem like Stonebwoy is intolerant is wrong. We haven’t even discussed this, and your name hasn’t even come up. Stonebwoy acknowledged your help and efforts last year. He told the world how you helped him win the Artiste of the Year,” she said.

Vida Adutwumwaa further explained that Stonebwoy’s camp hasn’t signed any loyalty contract with MC Portfolio, so he is free to support any artiste he chooses.

According to her, Stonebwoy’s team will continue to thrive, regardless of MC Portfolio’s support.

“Moreover, we didn’t sign any loyalty contract that says if Stonebwoy does something wrong, you can’t criticise him. He accepts criticism, which is why he has surrounded himself with a range of teams. So, you can’t sit there and create a narrative that we’re at odds. We don’t have a problem because the brand speaks for itself. If his loyalty lies with King Paluta, that’s not our concern. Nobody has even whispered about it. If the signs and data prove that Paluta deserves to be where he is now, we don’t have a problem,” she added.

It would be recalled that MC Portfolio, in a discussion on DJ Slim’s podcast, revealed that his public support for King Paluta in the 2025 TGMA “Artiste of the Year” category has caused tensions with some members of Stonebwoy’s camp.

MC Portfolio mentioned that, saying no other artiste in Ghana had such a consistent reign at the top of the charts in 2024, has led to some backlash from the BHIM Camp.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has paid a working visit to the expansive River Park Estate in Abuja, Nigeria, a landmark 501-hectare real estate development spearheaded by Ghanaian business magnate, Sir Dr Sam Jonah and his investment firm, Jonah Capital, in partnership with Mobus Property and Houses for Africa.

The visit forms part of Ablakwa’s three-day working trip to Nigeria aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and promoting Ghanaian businesses abroad under the government’s Economic Diplomacy Blueprint.

Ablakwa was received on behalf of Jonah Capital by Mobus/Houses of Africa Nigeria CEO, Kojo Ansah Mensah, who extended a warm welcome on behalf of the project’s Ghanaian founders — Sir Dr Sam Jonah, KBE, and Ehunabobrim Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, King of the Owirenkyi Kingdom.

In an address to the dignitaries and stakeholders present, the project’s leadership highlighted the estate’s significance as a monument to Ghana-Nigeria collaboration, dating back to 2007 when Sir Sam Jonah was appointed to Nigeria’s Honorary Investment Advisory Council by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“This is more than a real estate development. River Park is a testament to African excellence, a fusion of Ghanaian capital, Nigerian engineering, and West African community spirit,” he said.

Despite its success, River Park Estate has faced regulatory hurdles and misinformation campaigns.

Ablakwa commended Nigerian authorities, including the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, for their support in safeguarding investor interests.

He emphasised Ghana’s commitment to assisting its businesses abroad.

Ablakwa was presented with a ceremonial key to River Park Estate, a gesture signifying unity and mutual investment between Ghana and Nigeria.

Mensah also called on businesses from both nations to invest boldly in each other’s markets.

“Let River Park be a clarion call for Ghanaian and Nigerian businesses to build legacies together,” he declared.

On his official Facebook page, the minister lauded the River Park Estate as an “enduring symbol of Ghanaian enterprise and cross-border collaboration.”

He assured developers of diplomatic support to navigate local challenges in Nigeria.

“As the company expands and seeks to navigate local challenges, I have tasked our diplomatic mission in Abuja to offer all the support available under our Economic Diplomacy Blueprint.

The foreign minister concluded his visit with renewed assurances that President Mahama’s administration will actively support Ghanaian enterprises abroad while fostering intra-African collaboration:

He urges young entrepreneurs “to take advantage of our economic diplomacy tools to establish their presence beyond our borders. Your Foreign Ministry is always ready to facilitate and help make your vision a reality. let’s create more Ghanaian international brands.”

Police clarify comments on DNA samples in Cwecwe rape matter

0

Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu

The police ministry has clarified remarks regarding the rape case of a seven-year-old girl, Cwecwe, denying that a DNA sample was taken from a third person of interest in the case.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on Friday reassured people that a “thorough investigation” is “fully under way” into the alleged sexual abuse of Cwecwe that has sparked nationwide protests.

Mchunu confirmed that three persons of interest had been identified, and “further DNA testing is underway”.

DNA samples

However, Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga said DNA samples had been collected from two men and, recently, another person who initially reportedly refused to submit his DNA.

“The sample taken from the DNA, one from [the first person of interest], two from [the second person of interest], and we definitely want the sample taken from the third person but also taken from anyone else,” said Chikunga.

Clarification

Mchunu’s spokesperson, Kamogelo Mogotsi, said they had taken note of statements on various social media platforms surrounding the ongoing case of the minor in Matatiele and the DNA samples that were collected.

“It is clear that there is a need for further communication from us clarifying some aspects of this case.

“The minister of police never made any statement that the DNA of the third person of interest had been taken but, based on the initial report received, said he was among those suspected. He further said that DNA tests had been conducted without providing any specifics – these tests were in respect of the minor,” Mogotsi said.

Investigations

Mogotsi said the major general deployed to ensure a thorough investigation is working “diligently to ensure that all relevant evidence is carefully examined.”

“The Ministry of Police reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to bring clarity and justice to this matter.

“We urge the public to rely on official statements from the South African Police Service and the ministry and avoid spreading unverified information that may cause confusion or harm,” Mogotsi said.

Death threats

Last week, AfirForum’s Gerrie Nel escalated its correspondence to the Eastern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner following an allegation that another person was a suspect in the rape.

This after the lobby group blamed the death threats on the man on “social media detectives” and alleged shoddy police work.

“The police’s inability to properly investigate this crime, which was committed in October last year, and the reluctance to provide meaningful and accurate feedback has led to the dissemination of false and defamatory claims being made by the public, but now also state officials and politicians,” Nel stated in a recent letter to the Matatiele police station commander.

ARHR Welcomes Health Budget Boost

Benjamin Oppong-Twumasi

The Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights (ARHR) has welcomed the 2025 budget for the health sector as a positive step, particularly with the increased funding. However, ARHR Programmes Manager for Policy and Budget Advocacy, Benjamin Oppong-Twumasi, has emphasized the need for clarification on fund allocation, specifically seeking transparency on how the allocated funds will be distributed and utilised within the health sector.

According to him, the government’s decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) is a significant step, as it aligns with the Alliance’s advocacy efforts. However, concerns arise with the introduction of new policies, which may divert a significant portion of the allocated funds, exacerbating existing challenges, including unpaid claims.

He said this at the meeting organized by the ARHR to discuss the key findings from the 2025 Health budget analysis.

Regarding the distribution of free sanitary pads, the Alliance commends the government’s initiative, but highlights the lack of a clear implementation plan.

“While the government has announced the allocation of funds for this policy, details such as the agency responsible for distribution, the source of the pads, and the quantity to be provided to each girl remain unclear. The Alliance seeks transparency and clarity on these matters to ensure effective implementation,” he underscored.

Assistant Programmes Officer for Budget and Policy Advocacy, Nana Nyarko Konadu, in her presentation stated that, a significant shift in the 2025 budget is the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) which ensures full fund allocation to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), thereby improving financial sustainability and healthcare access.

According to her, the 2025 budget demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector through a 13.4% nominal increase in allocation compared to the previous year.

Notably, this translates to the GH¢17.82 billion which has been allocated to the ministry of Health, marking a GH¢2.1 billion increase from 2024.

“The freeze on employment in the health sector further threatens service delivery by worsening staffing shortages, particularly in the rural areas,” she stressed.

Policy Recommendations

Highlighting the policy recommendations to improve health outcomes, Nana Nyarko Konadu underscored that, to address infrastructure deficits, increase funds should be allocated to capital expenditure (CaPex), adding that, the government should progressively increase the health budget towards meeting Abuja Declaration target of 15%.

Notably, to enhance healthcare access, particularly in underserved areas, she mentioned that, a dedicated funding mechanism should be established to complete the Agenda 111 projects. Additionally, the government should prioritize completing existing health facilities over initiating new projects, ensuring that investments are optimized and healthcare accessibility is increased.

“To accelerate the completion of Agenda 111 and other health projects, the government should explore public-private partnerships (PPPs) to leverage the private sector’s expertise and resources in health infrastructure development,” she added.

We came into this game with determination – Benjamin Asare on Medeama win

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, attributed his team’s 1-0 win over Medeama SC to their determination and focus despite their recent struggles.

Asare returned between the sticks as Hearts beat Medeama by 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking after the game, Asare revealed his team’s confidence heading towards this game

“We had determination coming into this game after our defeat on Thursday,” he said.

“We knew we had to grab all three points in this game. We thank God for this victory, and also our fans and everyone who came to support us.

“Football is like that, you can lose or you can draw, anything can happen in football. Definitely, while you play and you don’t win, you are not happy. The players always have the mindset of winning, so our focus is always there,” he added.

His impressive performance earned him a maiden call-up to the Black Stars during the March international break.

TGMA Speaks On Why King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ Missed Out

0

King Paluta

The Board of the Telecel Ghana Awards (TGMA) has responded to why King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ was not nominated in this year’s scheme.

Contrary to rumours of supposed profanity in the song, a press release signed by Robert Klah, the Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, indicates otherwise.

According to the press statement, “each artiste can have only one song per category, except for Best Collaboration, Best International Collaboration and Best Video.”

The statement explained that, “This rule prevents vote-splitting and ensures that artistes have the most substantial chance of winning.”

Using King Paluta’s ‘Aseda’ and ‘Makoma’ as an example, the organisers applied this rule to select the most popular song.

“Based on our research, including streaming numbers and airplay from 175 radio stations, ‘Aseda’ was adjudged the more popular choice in both Highlife and Most Popular Song of the Year categories,” the statement disclosed.

They also acknowledged that although the Board relaxed this rule in some notable years of the scheme, its current stance is to allow only one nomination per artiste per category.

This is not the first time the award scheme is introducing the ‘one-artiste-one-song-in-a-category’ rule. In 2016, the same principle was applied to Bisa Kdei when he had two hit songs: ‘Mansa’ and ‘Bother Brother’, but only ‘Mansa’ got nominated.

Contrary to speculations that ‘Brother Brother’ was not nominated because it had a cuss word, report has it that Bisa Kdei was rather advised to choose his biggest song for nomination when he was informed that the Board would not nominate two songs by an artiste in a category. He therefore opted for ‘Mansa’.

However, in subsequent editions, the Board yielded to requests to allow multiple songs of artistes in a category. The current information, therefore, means that the Telecel Ghana Awards has reverted to its previous rule.

Adwoa Safo’s supporters storm NPP HQ ahead of her appearance before disciplinary c’ttee

0

Some supporters of Adwoa Safo, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, stormed the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra on Monday, 7 April, ahead of her expected appearance before the party’s disciplinary committee.

The decision comes after her comments on JoyNews’ The Pulse show, which the party leadership viewed as a direct contravention of an earlier directive prohibiting members from discussing matters that could create disaffection and unrest within the party.

The former MP was set to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee following remarks she made in the media concerning the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections.

The move forms part of a broader inquiry into the implications of her statements and their potential impact on the party’s public image.

A notice, jointly signed by Patrick Boamah, Secretary to the Disciplinary Committee, and William Yamoah, Director of Finance and Administration, was issued on 24th March 2025.
