Financial analyst and economist Scott Bolshevik has accused the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration of prioritising wealth accumulation over national interests.

In a post shared on his X page on Monday, March 31, 2025, he alleged that the previous government showed little regard for the well-being of Ghanaians.

He further highlighted several financial decisions made by the government, including forfeiting payments, selling state assets, accumulating debt, and mortgaging future revenues, regardless of their long-term impact.

“The Akufo-Addo administration was relentless in its efforts to exploit the nation, disregarding the impact on Ghanaians.

From forfeiting payments and selling state assets to piling up debt and mortgaging future revenues, their goal was to amass wealth within eight years,” he stated.

NPP Approached Me With Money To Shut Up But No One Can Buy My Conscience

0

Blind Historian Bulgaria, known in real life as Akwasi Afari Duodu Malik, a renowned Ghanaian football analyst, has disclosed that top-ranking members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) attempted to bribe him to keep quiet about Reverend Owusu Bempah and his alleged dealings.

According to him, NPP officials approached him, urging him to retract his statements about Owusu Bempah, particularly when he labeled him a “walking criminal.” However, he firmly refused to apologize, maintaining that Bempah is not immune to criticism.

He further claimed that apart from being asked to stay silent, he was also offered money to participate in a covert scheme against former President John Dramani Mahama. However, he turned down the offer, insisting that he would not allow financial incentives to compromise his integrity.

“I respect Bawumia, but my conscience is not for sale. I refuse to apologize to Owusu Bempah. He is not God, and he does not have the authority to decide who becomes president. Where was he when Kwame Nkrumah and others assumed leadership? The presidency is not his to control,” he asserted.

Expressing his frustration, he criticized Okay FM’s Kwame Nkrumah Tikese for permitting Owusu Bempah’s supporters to insult him and mock his disability on air.

He also reiterated his willingness to defend himself in court if necessary.

“He claims he’s taking me to court? I welcome the challenge. Where was he when his so-called pastor and his men stormed Gradaa’s house? Owusu Bempah is no different from an armed robber. I will not be intimidated by a lawsuit. Owusu, I know the difference between right and wrong. If I had no proof, I wouldn’t have spoken,” he said passionately.

President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned Muslim youth against reckless motorcycle riding and driving during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, emphasising the dangers associated with such behavior.

Speaking at the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration at the Black Star Square in Accra on March 31, 2025, President Mahama stressed the need for unity and joy during this time, noting that this is not the occasion for dangerous driving that puts lives at risk.

He further stated that law enforcement agencies had been instructed to take action against offenders to prevent accidents.

“Ramadan is a period of togetherness, not recklessness,” he said, urging young people to celebrate responsibly.

“In the past, we have witnessed the needless loss of lives due to reckless motorcycle riding and driving, which is often associated with the Ramadan celebration. I urge our brothers who engage in this to stop,” he cautioned.

President Mahama reaffirmed his directive to the police, making it clear that violations would not be tolerated.

Beyond safety concerns, he called on Ghanaians to embrace the spirit of compassion and generosity during Eid, reminding them to support the vulnerable in their communities.

“As we mark the end of Ramadan, let us not forget the vulnerable in our communities. This is a time for reflection, kindness, and support. We must look out for those who are struggling and extend a helping hand,” he urged.

He also encouraged religious and community leaders to set an example in fostering social responsibility.

President Mahama pledges tough action on illegal structures, reckless driving during Eid

0

President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to crack down on illegal structures obstructing water channels, blaming the practice for recurrent flooding and widespread destruction of property.

Speaking at Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Monday, March 31, Mahama warned that all unauthorised structures built in waterways would be demolished, with offenders facing legal action.

“We cannot allow a few selfish individuals to endanger the lives and livelihoods of countless others. The law will be enforced,” he declared.

He expressed deep concern over reports of private businesses colluding with some chiefs to develop water retention areas, calling the practice reckless and a severe threat to public safety. With the rainy season approaching, Mahama called for urgent, collective action to mitigate preventable disasters.

Crackdown on reckless driving

Mahama also addressed concerns over road safety during the Eid celebrations, warning against reckless driving and motorbike riding, which have previously resulted in tragic accidents.

“No one must die as a result of reckless celebration. I have asked the police to be on high alert, and anyone caught endangering lives will be arrested,” he stated.

He urged young people to celebrate responsibly, stressing that the joy of the occasion should not be overshadowed by preventable loss of life.

Empowering Muslim communities

Mahama commended Ghana’s Muslim communities for their contributions to national development, particularly in education, business, and governance. However, he stressed the need for further investment to ensure balanced progress.

“We must invest in quality education for our children, improve healthcare facilities, and create opportunities that will help our youth achieve their full potential,” he noted.

Encouraging Muslim youth to prioritise education, he added, “Islam teaches us that seeking knowledge is a lifelong duty for every Muslim.”

Social responsibility

Underscoring the role of charity in Islam, Mahama urged Ghanaians to extend kindness to orphans, widows, and the elderly.

He called on Muslims to continue their acts of generosity beyond Ramadan, describing charity as both an Islamic and national responsibility.

“True wealth is not measured by how much we accumulate, but by how much we give to help those in need. Let us reach out to those who are struggling,” he said.

Reaffirming his commitment to national development, Mahama assured Ghanaians that his leadership would prioritise education, healthcare, job creation, and infrastructure.

He praised the introduction of an additional public holiday to accommodate all Muslim denominations during Eid prayers, noting its success in fostering inclusivity.

“My promises are not just words. They represent a solemn commitment to enhance the lives of every Ghanaian, irrespective of background or faith,” he stated.

Kennedy Agyapong is a former presidential aspirant for NPP Kennedy Agyapong is a former presidential aspirant for NPP

A former Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Bissue, has described Kennedy Agyapong, a former presidential aspirant for the party, as the right leader for both the party and the country in the 2028 general elections.

According to him, every electoral season brings forth a leader who demonstrates unique qualities of selflessness and the ability to address issues with practical solutions. In his view, Ken Agyapong embodies these qualities.

Addressing some party supporters and TESCON members at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on March 30, 2025, Bissue urged them to believe in Agyapong’s leadership.

“… Selflessness, someone who is bold and takes a practical approach to solutions. I decided to stand with him because I know that every season calls for a certain leader, and 2028 is Ken Agyapong’s season,” he said.

Bissue acknowledged that the contest for the NPP’s flagbearer position would be tough.

However, he remained steadfast, adding that Kennedy Agyapong would present compelling messages that would resonate with the populace and help the party regain power in 2028.

“We are here not to campaign but to make our intentions known. When the time comes, I know many people will contest, but we will bring forth strong messages that will penetrate the minds and souls of Ghanaians, helping us return to power in 2028,” he noted.

Olanrewaju slumped to the canvas of the boxing ring Olanrewaju slumped to the canvas of the boxing ring

The tragic passing of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who collapsed during a fight in Ghana on Saturday, March 29, 2025, has sparked widespread discussion, with many questioning the safety measures at the event.

Public outcry from both Ghanaians and Nigerians on social media has prompted a response from the Trust Sports Emporium (TSE), managers of the multipurpose Bukom Arena, where the bout took place.

In a press release, TSE confirmed the boxer’s passing and announced the postponement of the boxing league.

“It is with deep regret that the Trust Sports Emporium confirms the death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who collapsed in the ring during an IMAX Boxing League match at Bukom Boxing Arena and was later pronounced dead at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital,” the organisation stated.

“In view of the incident, the Emporium has postponed the proposed start of the Amateur Boxing League until all major issues arising from the boxer’s death have been duly addressed,” the statement added.

The institution clarified that, contrary to some reports, they were not the organizers of the event, emphasizing that IMAX Boxing Promotions was responsible for its organisation.

“In the interim, it is important to highlight the following: The boxing event was not a Trust Sports Emporium event. The promoters were IMAX Boxing Promotions.”

TSE further stated that ensuring a safe environment is a priority for the institution, highlighting that medics and ambulances were present at the event.

“As part of our commitment to safety, we ensure that each event has medics and an ambulance on standby. These were present.”

“Trust Sports Emporium remains dedicated to ensuring that all events held at its facilities take place under safe conditions.”

Meanwhile, IMAX Boxing Promotions, the organizers of the Bel7 Ghana Professional Boxing League, have yet to provide any information on the incident.

Before his tragic passing, Olanrewaju had previously fought Idowu Raheed at the Campos Mini Stadium in Lagos on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024.

The late boxer is believed to have had both Nigerian and Ghanaian parentage.

Four Prominent NDC Figures Who Could Challenge Bawumia in the 2028 Presidential Election

0

As Ghana’s political landscape evolves, discussions have already begun about who might lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 presidential elections. With former President John Dramani Mahama unlikely to contest again due to constitutional limits, the NDC will need a new flagbearer to face off against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), possibly led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Here are four key NDC figures who could emerge as strong candidates for the party’s 2028 flagbearer position:

1. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

A dynamic and outspoken politician, Ablakwa has been a vocal critic of the ruling government, earning recognition for his investigative efforts and policy advocacy. As the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, he has built a reputation for being a staunch defender of national interests, making him a strong potential leader for the NDC.

2. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Currently serving as Ghana’s Vice President under the Mahama administration, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has extensive experience in governance, having previously held the position of Minister of Education. If she decides to contest, her experience and prominence as a female leader could make her a formidable candidate.

3. Haruna Iddrisu

A seasoned politician and former Minority Leader in Parliament, Iddrisu has significant influence within the NDC. He has served in various ministerial roles and is known for his strategic political skills. His deep party connections and experience in legislative matters position him as a viable flagbearer contender.

4. Alban Kingsford Bagbin

As the current Speaker of Parliament, Bagbin is one of the most experienced politicians in the NDC. His role in shaping Ghana’s legislative process and his leadership within the party make him a strong candidate for the NDC’s 2028 ticket. His wealth of experience could be an advantage in a competitive election against the NPP.

While the 2028 elections are still a few years away, the NDC will need to carefully strategize in selecting a candidate capable of reclaiming power from the NPP. Each of these four figures brings unique strengths to the table, and the internal party contest for the flagbearer position will be one to watch in the coming years.

Rumors of her passing began circulating on social media, particularly in Rivers State, sparking widespread concern among her fans and loved ones.

She emphasized that she remains steadfast in her beliefs and will continue to voice her opinions without fear or compromise.

People had even gone to visit my mum who is almost 80 years old.”

Ghanaian artiste Edem has noted the importance of collaboration among musicianse, stating that no single artiste can elevate Ghana’s global standing alone.

Speaking on the need for teamwork on Daybreak Hitz recently,  Edem stressed that collaboration is essential for Ghana’s music success so there was the need for them to encourage one another and support each other,  particularly in a competitive global era.

“Artistes like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Rema, and Ayra Starr have contributed to Nigeria’s success in the music industry. And so if one man thinks that I can be the only one to take Ghana, that would not work. So it has to be, we support each other, we collaborate, we push everybody,” he noted.

Edem explained why he made a surprise visit to Stonebwoy’s concert in Boston, noting that the venue was only a four-hour drive from where he was, making it an opportunity he couldn’t miss.

“So I was in the US for the Grammy weekend. Gambo and I performed at the Grammy pre-party. Then I flew back to Ghana in January and was supposed to return to the US in February. When I saw Stonebwoy’s tour dates, I congratulated him and decided to attend one of his shows.

“I informed my team and US handler, and we drove to the venue. Stonebwoy was thrilled to see me, and we spoke at his hotel,” Edem said.
