The Deputy Attorney General tells the court that after Adu Boahene’s arrest, CCTV captured his wife

0

CCTV footage allegedly shows the wife of ex-NSB boss Kwabena Adu Boahene carting suitcases suspected to contain money after his arrest.

CCTV footage has captured the wife of embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, carting suitcases suspected to contain foreign currency following his arrest.

This was revealed in court by Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem Sai on Friday, March 28, 2025. Dr. Srem Sai, presenting the case in an Accra Human Rights Court, argued that Angela Adjei Boateng’s actions suggested an attempt to destroy crucial evidence linked to the alleged embezzlement of state funds. On the night she was informed of her husband’s arrest, the footage reportedly shows her hurriedly handling the suitcases. The allegations that Adu Boahene took money from a $7 million cyber defense contract that Ghana and the Israeli company RLC Holdings Limited signed in 2020 are the basis of the case against him. Investigations suggest that, instead of funding the critical national security project, a significant portion of the money was diverted for personal use.

The case against Adu Boahene stems from allegations that he misappropriated funds from a $7 million cyber defense contract signed between Ghana and Israeli firm RLC Holdings Limited in 2020.

According to investigations, a significant amount of the funds were diverted for personal use rather than being used to fund the crucial national security project.

According to the Attorney General’s office, on February 6, 2020—just days after finalizing the contract—Adu Boahene allegedly transferred GH¢27.1 million from the NSB’s Fidelity Bank account into a private UMB account under BNC, a company he co-owns with his wife. The funds were reportedly laundered through real estate investments both locally and internationally.

Their legal team challenged the initial bail conditions, arguing that they were excessive, following their arrest. On Friday, the court reduced Adu Boahene’s bail from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million, with two sureties, one to be justified.

However, his wife’s bail remains at GH¢80 million. The couple has also been placed under movement restrictions and must report to EOCO three times a week.

Even though the bail was reduced, the prosecution insists that the couple is a flight risk and claims that they may have passports from other countries in addition to their Ghanaian ones.

Women in tech advocate for greater investment in female education

0

Women in the technology sector are calling for deliberate efforts to increase the teaching and learning of technological skills among females, underscoring the need for early exposure, curriculum reforms, and financial support.

During the March edition of Ed-Tech Monday on Citi FM on Monday, March 31, a discussion themed ‘Bridging the Gap in EdTech: Women Leading Innovation’ brought together three key stakeholders in the tech space.

The panel stressed the importance of proactive measures to equip more girls with technological skills and bridge the gender gap in the industry.

Maud Tsagli, Country IT Manager for Plan International Ghana, highlighted the need to introduce technology education at an early age and called for a review of Ghana’s educational curriculum to align with modern technological advancements.

“Can we look at introducing our children to robotics early? Some of these tools are not too expensive, and as for our educational system, we have to relook it. Things are changing and we need another way of thinking and we need to introduce IT clubs, competitions, and project works in our schools and in organisations, let us give women a chance to shine.”

Software developer Joy Tari-Bagshaw advocated for subsidies and financial aid for girls interested in acquiring IT skills, stressing that financial barriers often prevent young women from entering the tech field.

“For organisations, I know it will be nice if they can train girls in tech for free because some of the girls don’t have funds to pay for classes and so if there is funding, training can be given out for free to make sure that women are empowered.”

Sarah Odei-Amoani, Executive Director of STEM Inclusion Ghana, echoed the call for increased investment in female-led tech education.

She urged both government and private individuals to step up their support for women pursuing careers in technology.

“There are women in tech and with the requisite support, we can increase these numbers and we urge governments and individuals to help in training more girls in tech.”
