Politicians Must Stop Using Youths As Instruments Of Violence

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern warning to politicians against actions that could destabilize Nigeria, particularly the alleged use of mercenaries to incite violence.

Speaking in a meeting with the President of the Northern Youth Association of Nigeria on Tuesday, Godiya Bogoro, and other youth leaders from the North, the Governor stressed the importance of national unity and peaceful co-existence.

Okpebholo emphasised that politicians should refrain from manipulating the youth for political gains, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.

He urged Nigerian youths not to be used as pawns in political machinations that could harm the country’s peace and progress.

The Governor stated, “Politics is around the corner, and crises have started again.

People cannot continue to use the youth as instruments of destruction for their own selfish gains.

“He further said, “We should know as youths that tomorrow belongs to us, and we should not allow ourselves to be used to destroy it.”

He also highlighted the dangers posed by external actors who have previously attempted to fuel conflict within the country.

Drawing attention to the situation in Uromi, where violence had erupted, Okpebholo condemned the actions of those behind the unrest and called on Nigerians to unite against such destabilizing forces.

“These people want to kill, destroy the nation, and we as youths should say no to their plans. We should stand firm against it. Say no to such moves because the country belongs to us as a people.”

In his remarks, Godiya Bogoro expressed his support for the Governor’s efforts in promoting peace and resolving conflicts.

He commended Okpebholo’s quick response to the Uromi crisis and stressed the need for collaborative efforts to ensure lasting peace in the region.

“We commend your administration’s prompt response and commitment to ensure peace and stability in Edo State,” he added.

Okpebholo’s message resonates as a call for all Nigerians to protect the nation from forces that seek to divide and destroy it.
