PDP Chieftain Blasts Governors Over Unconstitutional Endorsement Of Udey-Okoye

A senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daboikiabo Warmate, has strongly opposed the recognition of Sunday Udey-Okoye as the party’s national secretary by the PDP Governors’ Forum, warning that the move undermines internal democracy.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Warmate condemned the decision taken during the governors’ recent meeting in Ibadan.

He insisted that such endorsements bypass established party processes and discredit the authority of constitutional organs within the PDP.

“This resolution is nothing short of an unconstitutional declaration of a state of emergency and a coup against members of our great party,” he said.

According to Warmate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu still holds the office of national secretary, as there has been no official resignation or declaration of vacancy.

“The PDP constitution clearly stipulates how a national officer of the party can be elected, appointed, replaced, or removed. Anyanwu has neither resigned, nor has the office become vacant to warrant any replacement,” Warmate noted.

He accused the governors of interfering in the functions of the National Working Committee and other decision-making bodies, stating that only the National Convention has the power to appoint or remove national officers.

Warmate also suggested that the endorsement may have been influenced by tensions involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, urging the governors to resolve their differences privately.

He concluded by cautioning that such internal friction could weaken the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections and damage its credibility before the electorate.
