El-Rufai Denies Political Motive Behind Visit To Buhari

Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed speculations linking his recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari to any political agenda, particularly the 2027 presidential election.

El-Rufai, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Achike Udenwa (Imo), and Gabriel Suswam (Benue), visited Buhari at his Kaduna residence on Friday.

The high-profile gathering sparked reactions across political circles, especially among members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), many of whom interpreted the meeting as a potential political alignment ahead of the next general election.

However, the former governor took to his X handle to clarify the purpose of the visit. According to him, their presence in Kaduna was purely for a post-Sallah courtesy visit to the former president.“We joined the faithful for Jumaat prayers at the Yahaya Road Mosque and had a sumptuous lunch at the Buhari Residence,

He further reacted to the ongoing chatter among APC figures, urging them not to misinterpret the gathering.

“Our adversaries should not lose any sleep. It is not about politics,” he stated emphatically.

El-Rufai emphasised that the visit was based on longstanding relationships and mutual respect, and not a strategy meeting as some have claimed.

“It is about unity and brotherhood. And since we are all politically irrelevant, we just prayed and enjoyed lunch with our mentor,” he added, subtly brushing off speculations surrounding the intentions of the meeting.
