“Leadership Collapse Has Crippled PDP” – Suswam Fires Warning Shot

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has expressed deep concern over the worsening internal strife within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the current state of the party as dire due to failed leadership and loss of public trust.

Speaking with news men on Tuesday, Suswam did not hold back in his assessment of the PDP’s present condition.

He blamed the protracted crisis rocking the party on the inability of its leadership to resolve longstanding issues, noting that many stakeholders have become disillusioned and disconnected from the party’s direction.

“There are many fundamental problems in PDP, and those problems have not been sorted out.

“So, a lot of people, in their minds, are no longer in PDP, and that’s because of the failure of leadership in PDP,” he stated”.

According to Suswam, unless the PDP takes urgent steps to revamp its leadership and reposition its structure ahead of the 2027 elections, it risks total irrelevance.

He cautioned against the alleged monetization of the party’s presidential ticket, warning that such practices undermine credibility and alienate true party loyalists.

His remarks come amid growing disagreements within the party, particularly after PDP governors resolved to steer clear of forming any merger or coalition an apparent rebuff to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s push for an opposition alliance ahead of 2027.

Suswam’s comments also echo recent sentiments from party elder statesman, Bode George, who firmly opposed another Atiku presidential run, arguing that it could further damage the PDP’s already fragile standing in Nigeria’s political space.
