Katsina Gov Swears In 34 LG Chairmen, Sets Strict Expectations

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, on Monday, issued a firm warning to newly elected local government chairmen, urging them to avoid corruption, inefficiency, and negligence in their duties.

During the swearing-in ceremony of the 34 chairmen, Radda made it clear that any form of misconduct would not be tolerated under his administration.

He emphasised that local governments serve as the closest link between the government and the people, and as such, the expectations from the citizens were extremely high.

“Your election represents the trust placed in you by your communities,” Radda stated.

“Today marks the beginning of a new era in grassroots governance in Katsina.”

The governor highlighted the vital role local governments play in fostering development and peace within the state.

He urged the new chairmen to focus on key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and security.

Radda also reiterated his commitment to implementing full local government autonomy and announced the establishment of a new department under the Ministry for Local Government, which would be tasked with monitoring performance and safeguarding resources.

Radda encouraged the chairmen to uphold integrity and transparency in their governance, stressing that public service should always prioritize the welfare of the people.

He emphasised that they must be judicious in managing public funds and ensure that every kobo allocated to their councils is used for the benefit of the people.

Also speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, congratulated the chairmen and urged them to emulate the governor’s approach to governance.

He praised Radda’s commitment to local government independence and his focus on effective management.

With the bar set high, the new chairmen will have to prove themselves capable of delivering on the promises made to their communities.
