Five Injured In Explosion At CCTV Shop In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has begun investigating an explosion that took place on Friday inside a CCTV dealer’s shop on Kodesho Street, near Computer Village in Ikeja.

According to a statement released on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the explosion occurred at about 6:35pm.

After the explosion, officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, Mobile Police Detachment, and regular police units promptly secured the scene to protect members of the public.

“The scene of the explosion and adjoining areas were immediately taken over and cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the Command, The Mobile Police Detachment and Conventional
Lagos State Police Command Police Teams.

“The scene was swept by the EOD experts of command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, reportedly arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion to conduct an immediate on-the-spot assessment.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents to stay calm, assuring them that the area had been secured and was now safe. He added that people could carry on with their normal activities without fear.

Police confirmed that five individuals who were in and around the shop when the explosion occurred suffered different degrees of injuries and were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

“The Command hereby wishes to assure the general public of its Lagos State Police Command commitment to continue to maintain peace and security throughout the state,” Hundeyin added.
