Famous afrobeats singer Skales has linked Nigeria’s lower crime rate to the widespread practice of extrajudicial punishments.
In an interview on Just Vibes shared on X on Wednesday, Skales argued that criminals in Nigeria are deterred from committing crimes due to the fear of facing jungle justice, where they risk punishment outside the law.
He compared this to the situation in the UK, where criminals are more confident in committing crimes due to a lack of such practices.

“There is lesser crime in Nigeria compared to the UK because they know if they [criminals] get caught, there is jungle justice. They burn you alive,” Skales said.
The singer, however, clarified that he does not condone jungle justice, acknowledging it as an unlawful and unjust practice.
Skales also touched on the subject of Afrobeats during the interview, stating that it’s challenging to pinpoint a specific sound for the genre.
He highlighted that Afrobeats is more of an umbrella term, incorporating various musical styles rather than representing a single, distinct sound.
