Act Now, Declare State Of Emergency Over Plateau Killings

Arewa Consultative Forum has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to act fast on the ongoing unrest in some parts of Plateau State.

The group expressed sadness over recent attacks by gunmen which resulted in the tragic deaths of several villagers, including children in some communities of the state.

Recall that INFORMATION NIGERIA had reported that some yet to be identified assailants invaded Ruwi, Hurti, and Tadai communities in Bokkos Local Government, leaving many residents dead.

In a statement on Sunday by ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, described the attacks as disheartening and frightening.

Muhammad-Baba called on the Federal Government to declare State of Emergency Over the security challenge facing the state.

He said: “We are ineffably saddened by the disheartening and frightening attacks by terror gangs on defenceless communities in Plateau State.

“We call on the FGN to declare a state of security emergency in vulnerable and banditry-prone communities and to initiate effective early-warning and early-response strategies that incorporate the participation of community members.

“Citizens should avail the security agencies with credible information on the activities of insurgents and criminals.

“The FGN and Plateau State Government should empower community leaders, elders, clergy, traditional leaders, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to embark on community dialogue for conflict resolution, reconciliation, and cooperation.”
