Fifteen persons have been injured following a gas explosion in the Iganmu area of Lagos State.
In a statement by Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, on Sunday, disclosed that the incident happened around 4:10 pm.
She noted that the explosion involved a 25kg gas cylinder in a mini shop that housed five similar cylinders.
Adeseye added that the fire was caused by a gas leak due to mishandling, which was ignited by a nearby flame, resulting in a sudden explosion.
The statement reads: “15 persons, both adults and children, male and female suffering varying degrees of burnt injuries.

“A number of the victims have been administered first aids along others that have been taken to the hospital.
“It is, however, pertinent to state that none of the cases are life threatening.
“It was a case of poor handling of gas products, which unfortunately allowed gas to escape and come in contact with a flame. This triggered the explosion.
“The resulting fire was swiftly extinguished, and the remains of the gas cylinders were safely evacuated. The danger was completely averted, and normalcy has since returned to the area.”
