‘I’ll Talk When There’s Something To Say On Tinubu’s Govt

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has pushed back against Nigerians expecting him to assess President Bola Tinubu’s administration on their timeline.

Soyinka emphasised that he’ll speak out when he feels it’s necessary, not because of external pressure. He pointed out that evaluating the government is a collective effort, noting that other prominent voices like Femi Falana, Festus Baiyewu, and Omoyele Sowore consistently speak out on national issues.

Soyinka maintained that he won’t be dictated to, asking rhetorically if he had ever followed such a pattern in assessing past administrations.

Speaking on Channels Television’s on Monday, Soyinka disclosed:“People should stop trying to work on my timetable for me,” the elder statesman remarked in response to those reminding him of his previous statement about assessing Tinubu’s leadership after a year in office, which concluded on May 29, 2024.

“I had not swallowed an alarm clock,” Soyinka quipped during the interview.

“I don’t see why I should put my alarm on and say: ‘One year has passed, now, I must make an assessment’ if there is nothing I feel like talking about and if I am busy elsewhere.”
