Elsie Okpocha, the former wife of Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, has shared words of encouragement for women dealing with divorce or heartbreak.
In a video posted on Instagram on Saturday, the mother of two urged women going through such experiences to rediscover their joy, assuring them that brighter days lay ahead. She emphasised that they were not at fault for their failed relationships and should not see the other woman as superior.
Addressing the emotional struggles that often accompany breakups, Elsie reassured women that their children would be fine, even if they worried about raising them in a separated household.

She said, “In celebration of Women’s International Month, I want to say this to every woman out there going through a heartbreak, failed relationship, or marriage: You will smile again and be happy. I promise you. I don’t know how long it will take, but something good will happen. You are going to look back and say, ‘I can’t believe I went through this.’ I promise you.”
Acknowledging the doubts that many women feel after a breakup, Elsie continued, “Now, it feels like your world has ended, and you aren’t getting yourself. Yes, I know that feeling. You feel like the other one is better than you, and you didn’t fight her enough in your marriage. Trust me, you did your best. The other woman was never better than you and can never be better because you are unique in your own way.”
She also offered reassurance to mothers worried about the impact of divorce on their children, saying, “You may feel your children will come from a broken home, but trust me, your children will be fine.”
Concluding her message, Elsie encouraged women to focus on their personal growth and happiness. “So, this is me saying to you, ‘You will be fine. Go out and thrive.’”
