Former National and West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun Success Olanrewaju, has died after collapsing during a boxing match in Ghana.
Olanrewaju lost consciousness while facing Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday.
It was gathered that the former champion was leading with some points before the tragic incident occurred.
Born in Lagos, the 40-year-old began his professional career in 2019 where he overcame Chukwuma Igwe in his first bout.
In his professional career, he recorded 13 wins, with 12 coming via knockouts, suffered eight defeats and had two draws.
Heading into Saturday’s fight with Mbanugu on Saturday he had lost his last four bouts.
His sudden passing has shocked the boxing world, with fans, fellow fighters, and sports enthusiasts paying tribute to a once-formidable champion.
