Security Guard Loses Life After Alleged Attack By Customer At Rivers Eatery

A security guard and father of three, Ifeanyi Ani, reportedly lost his life after being beaten by a customer at a well-known eatery in Rumukrushi, Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Thursday.

Sources who spoke to PUNCH on Saturday claimed that the customer had parked his car with the headlights still on while stopping to buy food at the eatery.

Additionally, it was said that the security guard went to ask the car’s owner to switch off the light, only to discover that the person inside was the man’s wife.

It was further disclosed that as the security guard was asking the man’s wife to dim the headlights, the car owner came out and questioned him about what he was saying to her.

The security guard explained the situation, but a confrontation broke out between them. The customer allegedly punched him multiple times, causing him to collapse and later pass away.

One of the sources said, “It was like a movie. People were talking to the man, but he refused and was still punching the security man. I think the security man is from Enugu State.”

He added that after the guard collapsed, the eatery’s management apprehended the customer and handed him over to the Mini-Okoro Police Division.

Commenting on the incident, the rights group Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign stated that the security guard’s sister, Chinaza Ani, had reached out to them and their partner, Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative, seeking justice.

The National Coordinator of the Centre, Prince Wiro, made this statement while responding to the incident.

“But she later told us to stay action, that the family wants to have a meeting with certain persons”, Wiro explained.

The State Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident when reached and stated that an investigation was underway.

She said, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. The man has been arrested and is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing.”
